Although she is hard, she teaches you a lot! And you are prepared for all types of writing. There are a lot of assignments, like reading and writing. She is political and Hawaii-based, so be prepared to be shocked at times. I learned so much about Hawaii's history and the injustices. She gets you thinking and wants you to think--a lot!

the class overall is fun. you do a lot of work but you also get your work way in advance. though at times we had to work on two papers. it wasnt hard. i recommend this class if you are looking for a challenge while having fun. just remember that attendance is really improtant.

You know those teachers who are in their own league of awesomeness? Yeah, Nani is one of them. I think making students succeed is her hobby, something that is funny yet rare. You will definately notice your writing skills increase with every class you attend. Just make sure to bring your opinions to class because sitting there is only half the fun

Loved her. I learned so much more than high school about writing. Nani opened my eyes to thing in the world I never payed attention to before. She encourages you to think for yourself and to think clearer so you write better. Eng. is boring but she made it fun most of the time. She's fair and cares a lot about her students. Take her!

She's enthusiastic about teaching which makes the class that much more interesting. She's always prepared and always patient to hear the students concerns about class assigments.

She's a really awesome person. Easy to talk to, easy to get along with, and easy to relate to. She knows where we, the student's, are coming from, and spends time helping students with things they have problems on. She's the best English 100 teacher I've ever had (I took Eng.100 in High School) and she taught me the most useful things.

Nani is a great teacher and great person overall. She is very helpful and includes her own humor within her lessons. If you don't learn anything from her class, you deserve a slap in the head (Nani, I know you're reading this haha). I highly recommend that yoou take her class. I had a blast in Ceratvie Wirtnig (haha) I learned a lot and agree Nani was not too technical but she did off terms and techniques that were practical and made my writing better. I liked the workshhop most, and I liked the poetry exercises. Laugh!

Nani was an excellent teacher and I learned more from her than any other English teacher. I want to go into English now. She was organized and clear. Not sure who that other student was but not anyone I know in my class. She encouraged me to revise my papers, saying it would help my writing and IT DID! I got an A. I've never gotten an A.

Good. Helpful. Don't like writing but liked the teacher and how she taught things. Learn to write better but I don't think my writing is good. Learned different writings. Arguing and stories. Listed to music and films. Liked the films because they tell the truth we don't hear.

Great class! I love creative writing, but I really learned a lot from Nani. Wish we had more poetry because the exercises were fun. Workshop offered me good feedback on what worked and what didn't work in my story. The teacher is encouraging.

I would also recommend this class and this instructor. I took it during the summer so it moved real fast. You have to read besides write, but they are poetry and short stories. Grading fair.

nani helped my writing improve immensly. she really enouraged me to improve and because of her class i finally decided on a journalism major. she helped me realize that I love writing.

Very easy to learn and understand. If you get a bad score on a paper, you can also bring the grade up . . . she is very hard on attendance though and you MUST turn in all your work. There are only about six assignments though.

I had a hard time with writing in high school. I though I was bad, but Nani showed me that if I revised my papers they would be better. I still do not like English but I feel more confident. I recommend this class.

I took an online lit class from Nani. I was surprised how much I liked the book selection. We read fairy tales that showed up in the other books we read. It was cool. Pretty easy. Papers much harder. Didn't stick to schedule as much as I would have liked but I think it was fair and maybe because we were online.

I took Nani for creative writing last year and learn so much. It was so fun. So, I took her for an online course. It too was good. Liked the readings, but I missed her stories and in-class activities. Haroun and the Sea of Stories is now my favorite novel! Highly recommend, even online.

The novel course was not what I expected online, but I am pleased with the class and Nani . I would never had read the books on the list on my own, but I am also VERY pleased with the reads, like Haroun. Nani offered a lot of information on each book and I learned a lot. I enjoyed fairy tales most because there was so much I didn't get as as a kid

The creative writing class online was fun but different because I never took a class online. Instructor was good. She was clear but I think I would have liked her class in person. Exercises and projects were fun. I liked the memoir with a picture. My workshop groups were great. I would recommend but not online.

Nani went out of her way to help me as a student. Her class was fun and I learned a lot. I might just change my major because of her. I highly recommend taking her class.

This instructor is more than fair. I learned a lot about writing and myself this semester. Nani went out of her way to make sure I passed when family issues came up and I am grateful for that. We didn't use the textbook as much but not bad.

Nani is an awesome instructor. Very passionate about storytelling. I enjoyed this class. A lot of reading, but the material was interesting. And if you need help or have questions, Nani is dependable. Just don't forget to READ!

Friendly, but a tad unorganized.

I loved this class. The reading was varied from easy to difficult. Liked her style. Helpful, especially if you email Nani, she has great conversations online with you. I also agree she was unorganized at the end since she changed our paper date but because personal issues. I thought the paper was easier. Otherwise, the course was on schedule.

I loved this creative writing class since we focused on nonfiction, autobiographies. We read a lot of stuff online and classmates writing. Way cool!!! I woud definitely recommend Nani. Shes the best.

This online course was HARD! I would not have taken it except Nani was a great teacher. I challeneged myself cause she said it was harder online. She was right!!! MLA was a pain!!! But now I am confident and feel like I can take on any writing class. Yahoo!!! Mahalo Nani-chan.

Yea...this class was HARD! I think I'm getting a B. Don't take it online if you aren't dedicated student. Nani was great and the content pretty straight forward but time consuming. All online are time consuming. I had 3 of them.

Online. Excellent teacher! Great novels and short stories! Pushes you to do your best. Course load is huge! Keeping up is critical. Fair grading style. Responds to emails and questions quickly.

I loved this online lit class! Best online experience ever since I bonded some with classmates. Which is rare. The weekly homework was simple. Do it, be late, or don't do it. So grading was easy to figure out. Papers were harder since I had never done a literary paper but Nani let me revise and I got an "A"!!!

I absolutely loved this class. It was online and although the reading and writing is a lot, it was my favorite class ever at KCC. Nani is a great teacher who made me feel I could become a scholar. Me! A local girl, a scholar.

Nani is the best! She is a very supportive mentor and is very willing to go out of her way to help you out. Very open minded and AWESOME sense of humor. Nani Ross is an excellent professor, she also teaches at UH Manoa. She is very clear and gives examples of exactly what she expects from her students which I found extremely helpful. She is fair and very personable. Take her class:)

I loved her online class. She is very helpful and answers e-mails asap. There is a lot of reading and 2 big essays, but the postings are very easy and simple (if you do the readings). I love how she is open-minded and she makes the students think for themselves.

I don't like english but I liked this class. The professor was helpful and we talked on the phone several times. She helped me a lot. The class is online so it is pretty independent. I would not take an online class again but I would take this teacher.

I really loved this Am. Lit. class. Nani was so helpful and understanding. I loved the readings. At first I thought it would suck but I had to take a lit class but then it turned out to be my fav.

American Lit is SO awesome. I was expecting this online class to be boring but it has turned out to be SO cool. We've read a variety of work and seen movies. I even did my first paper on Django. Loving it! Teacher is helpful and always answers emails. Would love to take her in person.

Awesome teacher. I hate english but the kumu was so nice and helpful. She even did phone calling with me when I got stuck and needed more help. I recommend this class.

Terrific teacher. Took her Short Story and Novel class on line. Incredibly supportive, positive and smart. Responds back right away. The best on line class I have taken. Even on line you can tell she cares about students learning. Lots of reading and work. Learn a lot in a fun way. Not for those who don't want to read or write a lot. Great teacher.

This was the second time I took freshman writing with Nani. She was so helpful. She never made me shamed when I couldn't finish the other semester. There are four major papers and #3 is hard because it is a research paper. MLA took me a long time to learn but I am proud to say I know it now and thanks to my teacher. She didn't give up on me.

I don't like writing but Professor Ross really helped me a lot this semester. She has you meet at least once over the phone and I was scared at first but she was SOOOO COOL and NICE and HELPFUL. I've called her 3X since because online can be kinda hard. I wouldn't take another online class.

Nani is THE best english teacher I have ever had. She really cares about her students individually and wants us to succeed. As for her work..there is a lot of reading, but it isn't hard!! Most of the questions are opinion based/relating back to the text. As long as you read the material, you'll be fine. Take her!!!

Awesome professor. I highly recommend taking Nani's online course if you're skilled in the English language, even though she also takes ESL students I can see why her course may be difficult for them. I never once met her or even spoke to her other than one or two emails, everything is done online. She's really great!

I enjoyed the reading, especially surprised by "World War Z" because it was about zombies but it is very relevant and was easy to read, expect the dogs. It was not an easy A class but it was not as hard as I expected. There was supposed to be two papers but we ended up writing 1. I liked reading my classmates postings. So I would take it again.

Bonnie Ross is an amazing instructor. I took 2 of her classes. The way that she cares about your success in her class AND in life is hard to come by. Most of my classes are conducted online and none of them took the time to get to know her students like Ross. Her grading is fair as is her due dates. You will NOT regret taking any one of her classes

She gave me a second chance and she really helped me pass this class. I feel more confident. MLA is hard so don't do like me and skip reading the handout and doing the work. I feel dumb I didn't try harder earlier on since it would have made things easier. Good teacher. Fair.

Bonnie is one of the best teachers that I have had. There are a total of 3 papers to write and she allows as many revisions to receive a higher grade. She is very clear when explaining what is needed in each paper. There are homework posts each week based off of TED talks and other interesting subjects. Really recommend her!

Nani was awesome! After I registered for the class I was a bit scared as I never have taken an online class. She would call if you need help and is very openminded, I felt comfortable to share about my past and even write honestly. She gives great feedback and I would love to take her again.

Professor Nani (Bonnie) Ross is one of the best teachers at KCC; I have had the pleasure to have taken her class online, which it was an easy A. Her instructions on all of the assignments were very clear to follow and also gives extra credits. There are ONLY three major papers for the semester. I would recommend students to take her online class.

I failed the first time I took this class but with another professor. Professor Ross so helpful. I was intimidated to take the class again but she helped me and with each posting and paper I gained confidence. I wish I could take more classes with her for writing but she only teaches creative writing at UH. BOO! I have to wait a 1 1/2.

Such a sweet and kind professor. I had to drop her class half way through the semester due to other circumstances in my life but retaking her class again. She is very understanding and clear of everything needed to be done for her class. She replies very quickly to emails. If you can get into her class, DO IT!

Professor Ross was amazing! I've learned a lot and really enjoyed her class. I feel confidence in writing essays and using MLA when citing. She really cares about you learning the material, gives amazing feedback and you need to participate to earn a good grade.

Professor Ross is fantastic and makes writing so easy, YES there are 3 major papers you will be writing but this is an english class after all. She will help you every step of the way and be in contact frequently because she wants all her students to learn and do well!

Class was well structured and relatively easy. She focuses primarily on MLA. 3 papers, nothing that unrealistic. Every week there are two homework posting assignments, along with additional reading. Again, nothing unrealistic. Gives great feedback and is very motivating and understanding. I enjoyed the class and the teacher even if it was online.

Good class. Teachers fair. Emails alot. Wants you to succeed but lots of work cause online. Dont have to read everything just what you need to do homework. Overwhlemd to see all the reading but only read what you need. Nani is nice.

I was uncertain at first because she does not grade a lot and we did a lot of exercises but then workshop was awesome and I walked away with a chapbook I am publishing and exactly what I hoped for: a body of work!!!

Great teacher with a lot of heart. I didn't know MLA from High School so kind of hard at times. The term paper was scary. Easy course to get around. Unlike my other online classes. I like math but I liked this class and learned a lot.

I don't like writing long papers and my brain shuts down after 3 pages. This class and the instructor were amazing and I learned so muach about creative writing. I wrote an 11 page story and a book of poetry by the end!! I'd take the instructor again for sure. I think the exercises were enjoyable and helped my writing stamina.

Just finishing thus as a summer class. The workload and intensity were well laid out and in no way overwhelming for 6 wks. Get ready to work with MLA but taught me how to research in databases, which seems invaluable. Learned some useful tools like PIE, appeals, deconstructing an argument. Teacher is great and accessible. She was so quick w/emails.

I never felt overwhelmed by the assignments and I expected there to be a lot of work because it is a summer class but it was the right amount. I would take from this prof. again. Was happy I took it from her. She is fair and gives x-credit.

Is an online class, so the learning is really independent and the workload is a bit heavy in summer section. This course required a good understanding with MLA and how to research. Nani is super nice! You have a lot of freedom for the essay topic and she provide good feedback to improve the works.

This course was easy at first but then kicked my butt. 4 papers + smaller ones and a lot library database and how to cite w/MLA. No final! Just turn in papers and an email. Nice prof who was understanding because I was stressed with covid and work. I was not organized so it was helpful the course was. Reminder emails were helpful to.

She's very nice and helped me to improve my writing a lot. There was a fair amount of work but I think as long as you try your best you should be able to pass.

I really liked taking this class all online. The teacher was good, she gave good feedback, and the lessons and assignments clear, but there was a LOT of reading because it was all online. I met with the professor twice over Zoom and that was super helpful. Extra credit helped too.

I liked the teacher and class overall. I mean it's an English class so...but it was good overall and not too stressful or hard. Teacher gives extra credit opportunities and is nice and helpful. She emails promptly. Three papers but a lot of weekly homework. MLA was the hardest part. I think she should allow APA.

It was a great class. Overall easy. Just turn in homework on time. Can revise papers and has extra credit so easy to improve grade. Super caring teacher. She was nice and met once for feedback.

Workload's very manageable and its extremely helpful course was laid out well. Deadlines on Sundays worked well because I work FT. Teacher's super kind and supportive. I had to move and I got promoted. I felt supported and heard about the stresses I was under and we met on Zoom for added help with MLA. I'm happy I took the class.
