Some concepts are hard, but she is a good teacher. She does alot of demos in class and has pretty good explanations and ideas for future teachers.
F'ing hard teacher!!
Dr. Wylo is a great instructor, she gives a lot of neat ideas to use in the elementary classroom. She has a wonderful way of teaching the subject so that it is understandable. Great Demo's!! The class is not easy by any means, but if you work hard you
ridiculous!!!!!! NOT helpful, NOT fair at grading, NO review sessions in class or out.

boring class, sometimes unclear...all the hw helps boost your grade
Class was boring, but the extra credit and examples in class were always helpful. not always clear though.
horrible teacher. she is so boring it is painful to sit through her class. she will teach a lesson, and then say...oh yea you could teach it like this with the kids (if ever). very monotone voice. ah i hated that class
Had really bad experience in her class. Marked down EVERYTHING. One time she gave me a ZERO on completed homework! Don't take her, take at washtenaw w/Haygood. You'll thank me later
I learned a great deal in this class. I noticed alot of students complaining about how hard it was. I believe this was because they were dumb.
Taught Physics 100 like it was Physics 450. Learned nothing and had to retake it.
don't understand what everyone's complaining bout. great teacher. loved the demos. just make sure u keep up with the readings. come on guys, we're in college...there's no such thing as an easy A.
Horrible Class. Boring. NO extra credit this semester, no homework to help boost your grade. I dont know what everyone else is talking about. We have 4 tests, thats it. Average grade for the first test was a 62. She warned us all beforehand that we would probably fail. Great way to boost mora
its suppossed to be a gen ed course... she isnt good at teaching at all. no xcredit, no study sessions, monatone voice so its easy to fall asleep. she sucks. dont take this with her!

Exams are hard, she likes "trick" questions. Never missed a class, did all the homework and readings, and never even got a 70% on an exam! Her class examples are interesting and fun, some I'd use in an elementary classroom. But, your grade is mostly based on exams,if you can avoid her, don't take her
There is nothing much to say, but don't take her. You can study for a week straight on all the information and still not get an A. No one passes her first test, she'll tell you! What kind of professor is like that? HER! Not helpful when talking to! Don't miss class!
Horrible, Horrible, Horrible teacher. Horrible. Her tests are ridiculously hard, I don't care how much you study. It's a 100-level class for god's sake! And she has way too much time on her hands. She needs some friends, really badly.
I had a hard time in the class, and she was not helpful at all. I went to her office sevral times and she still did'nt get me to understand the work. I have to take the class again and she is one of the only reachers who teaches it.
Class was for secondary teachers working on a masters in science. She was excellent and prepared us well. Dr. Wylo was beyond helpful, very organized and professional. Maybe the complainers have not yet realized they need to work up to the class expectations - they may have more success and not blame the professor for their own shortcomings.
fairly simple class if you know physics and calculus...has a wierd grading scale...gave a lower grader than I earned
An easy class if you go, do the work, read, and PAY ATTENTION. she puts a lot of the examples from class on the tests. Not the easiest teacher but makes you work for your grade. Effective teaching style and always willing to help.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! IF YOU GET HER, GET OUT OF THE CLASS. The class is only exams which are incredibly hard. She will not give answers to or grade your homework even if you ask and says she is too tired to help out in anyway. The class average on the tests is less than 60%.
She is very hard. And no, she doesn't really want to help you at all. You HAVE to come to class or you will autoatically fail. Make ure you listen to every word she says, b/c is you don't quote her directly, you're WRONG!
Shes an awful teacher
Ys, this is a hard class and Dr. Wylo expects a lot for a 100 level class. I spent more time in this class than my other 3 classes combined. However, SI instruction saved me. GO TO LECTURES (and pay attention). You have to work hard, but I learned more in this class than my others (and I loath science!) Labs are fun!
Prof. Wylo really knows her stuff. However when asking for our opinion, but didn't like what we had to say. I did not really care for the class but if your willing to do the work and put in the many hours studing then you will do ok in the class.
I hated this class...her tests r so hard..she is not very approachable...she is intimidating and i don't feel like she teaches well...she just expects u to get it...even if you don't...this class was incredibly hard for me...I did not feel comfortable in her class or like she was approachable. Did not enjoy this class or this prof!
Dr Wylo is a great teacher. All the students who are complaining are acting like children who have never had to work for anything and are going to have a hard time in the real world. This is a difficult subject and if you're not willing to put some work into understanding it you won't do well. Excellent class - I learned a lot!
Give great class demos. I would not take her again. Average on all tests were 50-60's, that says the teacher can't explain or write tests. Test questions are meant to trick you. My Husband could not figure out how she marked points of of several test questions, and he is an engineer! She could not tell me either, when asked to explain.
Totally worthless. Failed me after asking for an incomplete due to my daughter being sick and having to be in the hospital several days out of the week. No compassion for anything other than Physics. Don't take the class whatever you do...unless you plan on majoring in it. Even then you will probably fail. Worse proffesor ever.
Dr. Wylo is a fantastic teacher! She uses many visuals and hands-on demonstrations for us students who need a little more clarity for such a tough subject. You MUST study A LOT to understand any topics in this course as they are NOT easy. Dr. Wylo makes the class fun and interesting and her love of the subject shines through.
Honestly i cannot say anything that hasnt already been said about this teacher during the past three years. It has very difficult tests and half my points lost on tests were stupid errors. class averages on tests ranged from 55-65. If you can avoid this teacher... I would do so.
HA....this damn teacher right here!!! HORRIBLE......and yes I used ALL caps.....shes rude, insensitive and thinks that your suppose to know as much as her....when 1st walking into the class...lecture is boring and she thinks shes funny with disrupts the class room. HATED IT...u wanna fail...go right a head....take her!!
She is really knows her subject. I had failed this class before with a different professor but she made a ridiculously hard class passable.
I hated this class. I had to take it for two semesters because I failed the first time. She babbles in class and doesn't really teach you anything that would work on the test. If she puts a drawing up, draw it! Go to class because she does refer to some things she does on her test. If you have a choice, don't take her.
WORST professor ever. Has you read endless amounts of pages, while doing demonstrations in class. Does not lecture at all, so everything you learn comes from the text. Do NOT take her. Get OUT of her class.
Any "teacher" who tells people who aren't doing well in class, "well, maybe you shouldn't be a teacher," is the perfect example of someone who SHOULDN'T be a teacher. Get out of this class before you start.
A bit disorganized. Tests were open note though. Took 6 tests and only 4 counted. Homework was not required. Go to class if you want to pass the tests. Was helpful if you were able to catch her in office hours.
Yes - she makes you *work* for your grade, no denying that. Yes, her tests are *hard*. But, IMO with the help she gives - dropping 4/6 lowest test grades and using a notecard, things are do-able. I never used the book or workbook, but her notes were MANDATORY. If I had used them I may have gotten an A - but I ended up with a B. Its do-able.
Great teacher! She taught very clearly. Bad part was if you missed an exam you couldn't make it up.
This professor is honestly the worst professor I have had at eastern. She is rude, and unapproachable. Her exams and homework are very hard, and usually the class average is around 60%, and she does not grade on a curve. I spent more time studying for this class than all my others combined. Avoid her at all costs.
She's really harsh, intimidating, hard, cold, and unhelpful. Just today she wrote on a students paper, that she doesn't expect him to make it through college.
DON'T TAKE HERE!! SHE IS REALLY REALLY HARD..HARD TEST
Horrible in all aspects... Avoid at all costs.
Despite these comments, she really isn't that bad of a teacher. The class is hard, and if you don't at least try, you will fail. She tries to make the class interesting, there are only quizzes and tests, no homework!! She may act cold to those who just don't care but other than that she's really not that bad.
This instructor is truly amazing and able to inspire even the scientifically impaired. Loved her class so much I changed my minor.
I hated having her!!The woman did know what she was talking about..so I'll give her that & she did have some interesting demos BUT her test were so hard & she wasn't that friendly. I once had a question on a paper i did and she was very cold & not helpful at all. Also there are things on the test that we never talked about in class.
I studied more in this class then all my other classes. Very stressful, I would take answers directly out of the book and they'd still be wrong...I gave up halfway through and stopped reading/studying and did just as well as when I studied for hours...so it doesn't matter how much you study...good luck! Nice lady. Bad teaching :(
Very difficult, doesnt explain things well. grades hard, you get no credit even if you have the answer right, just the units following it wrong. HORRIBLE teacher!! do not take!!
I didn't find her class very difficult at all. Do the assigned readings, homework, and come to class. This semester instead of giving three exams, she gave a short quiz every week. I think it made it easier. She has a sense of humor and class was never boring. Great demonstrations. The final was made of questions from all the quizzes. easy.
For being a 100 level class this course was ridiculously hard and tedious. Take this class if you like lots of trick questions, impossibly high grading standards, being mocked for getting wrong answers, and/or already have a complete understanding of physics. Anyone else: STAY AWAY!
Dr Wylo is soo not sympathetic. Not helpful and doesn't seem to care. :(
This is a memorization class of terms. I didn't seem to learn much from this class. If you take this class prepared to get lots of silly questions on the quizzes wrong, since they are worded very tricky. Also, this class seems to decline as the semester goes on. Avoid this teacher at all costs.
horrible teacher. very unsympathetic..created her own book thats all about herself...goes over demos in class and changes them on the quizes so you think you know the answer but you dont.. a very hard class for being a level 100. she should not be a teacher
I would not recommend her. Her book is more about her and how physics can be fun than the actual physics. Her tests are hard and have many trick questions. You will think you did well, but then find out you got easy questions wrong because of how they are worded. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
DO NOT EVER TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER AS THE TEACHER!! She is extremely hard and so not helpful! AVOID!! AVOID!! She knows physics, but does not know how to teach physics. Shes honestly pathetic when it comes to helping a student. Dont ever get her as a teacher!!!
Absolutely terrible. Avoid this class at all costs. I've had a 4.0 my entire way through college courses and am now a Junior. I work very hard at what I do, I received a D+ in this class. She shows comics and reads from her own book. Does not show how to do the math problems. I know everyone hates homework, but it would have helped. DON'T TAKE!!!!!
COME TO CLASS, do homework, make use of the notecard for exams & you will get a good grade. She is very passionate about the subject. Offers plenty of examples, is energized. Seems scatterbrained at times. I'd recommend her still. You do have to buy her textbook she wrote, but it includes the lab manual.
She's very...interesting. She laughs at things that aren't funny. She shows comics in class. She does a lot of demonstrations and then continues to play with them for 5-10 minutes. I would do my homework and play hangman in class. The perks were getting a notecard for exams and having the final be optional.
Had her for intro and I was terrified of physics being a philosophy/religion student... But I showed up and did the weekly quiz and my homework and did great. She keeps your attention and was always helpful. People forget you have to be polite and ask, students have to treat teachers the way they want to be treated!
MUST COME TO CLASS. Test questions are class demonstrations that she did in class. If you go to class you will do wonderful. Offered extra credit. Easy to talk to and ask questions. I never read the book but you need it for hw. Homework is good pre test. Get to use a notecard on all tests!!!!
DO NOT TAKE! Worst teacher I have had so far at Eastern. Does not help if you go to office hours, she's rude and refers back to her book for all the answers. DOES NOT teach math problems in class. She only shows experiments. Must take notes on experiments she does in class because they will be on the test!!!
Dr. Wylo is certainly a bit eclectic, but she is wonderful. I have seen some negative comments about her on here, and I am surprised by most of them. She encourages us to go to her office hours to clarify material. Subject is tough, but most everything on tests are in study guide. Overall, wonderful personteacher, and clumsy yet adorable.
This is one of the worst professors that I have had while at EMU. She does not do a good job of teaching the math behind the course concepts, does not stay true to her syllabus when it comes to course policies, and spends a majority of time doing ridiculous demonstrations that are a waste of time.
You're going to have to read for this class and pay attention in the lectures. A good amount of test questions are from examples during class and from the study guide. Make sure you prepare for the tests in advance. Wylo is very helpful if you ask for help.
She is self absorbed, unclear and plain rude. She doesn't car about her students at all, she is beyond confusing. Her tests are near impossible and she does not give any extra credit except on her tests. If you don't read the chapter and teach yourself, you're screwed. Expects you to be over prepared and study 2 hours a day.
Worst professor that I have ever taken a class with. Lectures are boring, hard to focus. The text book is something that she made and it is awful, more about her than physics. The tests are very difficult. She will ask questions that have nothing to do with physics, like "who is the protagonist in a video?" Avoid if possible.
BORING. Her classes are so boring, but it's important to attend class because most test questions come from the lectures. She constantly goes off topic. The textbook is one that she wrote and is very confusing. Your lowest test grade will be dropped out of four tests total.
One of my hardest classes. Her lectures are directly from the textbook that she created herself. You only get a small notecard for the exams and they are tough. Write down every example she does in class and do the homework in the textbook. Most of the exam ?s come directly from there. The class is pretty boring, but you must attend to pass!
The ONLY reason I passed her class was because I had an AWESOME lab instructor that would spend a lot of lab time re-teaching what we were supposed to learn in Wylo's lectures. Wylo is BORING and she is really hard to follow. If you go to her office, she explains things a lot better. Take notes on what she's trying to teach and then get a tutor.
I know reviews are bad for her, but I think she was quite charming. She loves teaching, and has many good examples for you and your future science classroom. She wrote her own book that youll NEED but (dont be mad), it's also charming. 4 Exams+notecard, but drops lowest+avg'd with lab. EXAMS ARE HARD, YOU NEED TO READ AND STUDY. Give her a chance!
She wrote the book herself and its not the best at explaining things especially when the exam comes. She gives long thorough lectures but the tests are majority math problems that she never does examples for. I would avoid taking her but if you have to just make sure you got the math down. Beware--she freaks OUT over cell phones.
Ugh.. Love her as a person - but her teaching method need serious work. BORING lectures, doesn't really explain math problems that take up most of the tests. Be ready to teach yourself. Book required, but honestly didn't help me. 3x5 notecard for each test, lowest test dropped! Take good notes on lecture examples they are usually on the test!
BEWARE grading is completely test based. So if you are not a good test taker, do not take her. Boring lectures. One teaching style, her style, and it sucks.
Go to all of the labs. The lecture is great to take online because you can print out all of the notes and use them on the exams, which makes them very easy.
Dr. Wylo is the most disrespectful and just unnecessarily rude professor I've ever had. Would constantly give assignments with little instruction and grade specifically on what she felt like that day. She left nasty and unprofessional comments on my assignments, took off points for VERY minor details, and was just horrible. Would NOT recommend.
I am a graduating senior and this course is the reason I may not be graduating Summa Cum Laude. Wylo doesn't use any Canvas functions and if you want a PDF of her notes you'll have to pay $150. Her e-mails come off as rude. It doesn't seem like she cares about how students do. Worst professor I've had at EMU, and that's saying something.
Overall, Wylo seems to be quite knowledgeable about science, but when it comes to writing papers, she thinks she's an English pro. Her big assignment was a short final paper. In all my years of college and English writing courses, never once have I been so critiqued in my writing- especially by a science professor.
Worst professor I've EVER had!! On the final paper she critiqued me on the tiniest things, it felt spiteful. I received a 60% on a paper that should have been a 75-80%. She provided no actual rubric, just two vague posts about the topic, and said I did poorly only because I didn't write a rough draft. Very questionable for a prof in Teacher Ed.
Charges students if they want to have copies of course material and notes.
WORST EVER! FAILED ONCE AND SHE JUDGES ON THE LITTLEST THINGS AND HER COMMENTS ON YOUR ASSIGNMENTS MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID AND DUMB. WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD AT EMU.
Don't take her class. The testing is an open book but doesn't help because she mostly talks about her life. She critiques everything, making you feel dumb, especially on the essay. She comes off rude if you ask for help, like she doesn't care if you fail.
1. She forces you to buy the book SHE wrote, so she's making money off you in two ways. 2. The book is absolutely terrible--terribly formatted, hard-to-read, & full of useless info dumping. 3. You learn UNNECESSARY things. 4. She doesn't teach you for a single second. It's all pre-written for her, so she does NOTHING. 5. Hard grader 6. Worst prof.
Over 20 years of bad reviews should say a lot. I wish I had taken the time to look at rate my professor. This is a HORRIBLE professor. Extremely unnecessary, boring, very rude, nit-picky. She does not care to see other students succeed, and is very inflexible. Not too sure how she's still employed but going forward I'd advise people to do research
While this course may look easy because the readings and assignments are simple, she is a TOUGH GRADER. She will nitpick every single assignment and drop several points for a small error. She accused me of cheating on one of the assignments because I worked with a peer, which she never stated was not allowed. Good luck!
