Will help one to succeed in life realistically
Good person. Hard course. Puts sample exams on web! Take her!
Stupid course, go to lecture, it helps. I didn't . . .
The best math professor I've ever had!
Nicest person you'll ever meet. If you really try, she will not give up on you!
great professor! always helps and makes calc easy.
great teacher, really prepares you to go ahead, a lot of hw and often quizzes u
great teacher
Cool and fun teacher, and easy to work with.
GREAT professor. Knowledgable and informative. A++ would take again.
Great Prof. Very Clear, very cool.
She is awesome with help and extra study sessions!
Awesome professor. The class is real hard but she does her best to help everyone through it.
Great teacher! Class is a little hard, but she tries hard to help you understand it. The best teacher I have ever had!
No matter how bad you are at math, if you try and come to class (she'll know) there is now way you won't at least get a B. She'll give you an A if you get at least 87 overall.
Good teacher, funny, just come to class everyday, otherwise she will know who skips, but shes very helpful and tries to make the class interesting.
Tighe is one of the best professors i've ever had. She is clear, helpfull, and very funny. She also is every lax, she almost always lets us out of class 10 to 15 minutes early. Great teacher, highly recommend!
This is a pretty easy class...just pay attention and do ALL the problems. The exams are pretty easy as long as you pay attention in class..the only hard part of this class was the final..everything was on the final and its hard..but if you get A's on all the exams you dont need to take the final.
Great teacher! Alot of work though, including weekly quizes and homework assignments. However, she is an understanding teacher and gives you the grade you deserve.
Mrs. Tighe is the best teacher I have ever had. She is extremely helpful and caring. She welcomes all her students to her office at any time (not just office hours) for help or to chat. And she always has candy for you! Great teacher and person!
great teacher, makes funny jokes to strike interest of class and makes sure that everyone understood the material and was ready for exams
Ms. Tighe is the sweetest professor, and very helpful!!! She's always in her office to help or just chat. I would definately recommend her to anyone!!!
I loved Ms.Tighe!!! She was an excellent professor and was a huge help.
Do not take anyone but Tighe for 151 or 152, she's the best!
Best teacher at UMBC...helps you out and understands what it's like to be a college student. If you take the class with anyone else you're crazy.
My favorite teacher. She is always there to help anyone who wants it and she will give your grade a boost if you improve in the class. The material is hard to understand no matter who you take, but Mrs. Tighe is the best person to take it with. Highly recommend for any class you can get with her.
She is a really great professor. She is really helpful and witty which makes taking Calculus extremely easy. She is great later on with recommendations and with syce your grade if she knows that you try really hard. Work really hard to get an A and there is no final!!!!
She's hilarious, interesting, easy to talk to, explains clearly, and will let you know that you have to be absolutley stupid to not understand that for Calculus you have to study a little bit. She is definitley one of the best teachers I ever had.
Ms. Tigh is one of the best in her profession. She is the epitome of what a professor should be. Her method of teaching is very understandable and easy which is further complimented by her warm and approachable personality. She brings out the best in her students as long as they do their part.
All that can be said is she's nothing less than the best.
Best.Teacher.EVER. I had her for both Calc I and II and I am certain that you will not be able to find a better teacher. Her class is entertaining, clear, and casual. Very lenient when it comes to grading and class structure. For Calc II i had a 88%, not only did she give me the A, but I was also exempt from the final. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!
best teacher at umbc
Wow, I totally disagree with all the reviews. I actually LOVE math, never had any problems with it before, but Prof. Tighe is just a HORRIBLE professor. From the very first day she acts as if you already know all the material and she's just there to review. She's very rude when you try to ask her a question after class and not helpful at all.AVOID!
I had Mrs. Tighe years ago and still remember sitting in her class, actually understanding calculus. WOOHOO. She is, like everyone else is saying, the epitome of an excellent teacher.
Dr. Capoor is much better. I cant understand this lady.
I can't stand her....she's rude and sarcastic. The class isn't that hard but the bs homework is a waste of time as it has nothing to do with quizzes.
Average Teacher. She explains everything very clearly; however, she doesn't seem to helpful when you ask a question. Her quizzes are actually sort of difficult as well as her test.
BEST MATH teacher ever. I paid $1000 out of MY pocket to take her calc 2 class over the summer. Calc is not easy but when teacher is nice and is willing to help u every step of the way...its much better. DO NOT take calc with anyone else...Tighe for Calc 1 and 2....and any other subject she teaches :)
Seems to expect that you already know the material. Assigns homework that seemingly has nothing to do with what she lectures about. I got A's in math before this class; had to drop it because I wasn't even sure I could pull off a C.
Mrs. Tighe is the best math teacher I have ever had! She makes a boring subject more bearable, she is also very helpful. She is very upbeat and has the best TAs. I lived in her office, I would sit off to the side and do homework and when I had a question she was right there to help. Mrs. Tighe is the best and I wouldn't take calc with anyone else!
Mrs. Tighe does not seem to buy the idea that some people really are bad at math. My brain does not work that way and her tests are too freaking long for someone like me to do in a hour. She erases the examples from the board before I can finish copying them down. She chews loudly during our tests. All I can do is memorize in her class, not learn.
Good teacher, but has very hard exams. However, you'll come out of the class knowing the material very well.
A very motherly professor but full of tough love. You have to be a self-starter to do well, this isn't a memorization course AT ALL. Know the material inside and out. She gives lots of homework but also long office hours. Be warned, exams are tricky, always from that one problem you skipped on the homework. So study HARD and you will do well.
Dr. Tighe has been a blessing to my life. I entered the class nervous and fearful that I would have to drop. However, I have excelled beyond my wildest dreams as a result of Dr. Tighe's teaching method. She sincerely cares about her students and resemebles a gentle auntie or nanny. Make sure you come to class early, she hates late students.
This was my first time taking calculus and I'm SO glad it was with Mrs. Tighe. She's really really nice, and pretty funny about math. She tries hard to make sure everybody understands what's going on, and has review sessions on the weekends before our exams. Just try and come to class and you'll be fine.
Don't get on her bad side. I actually got a C in the class, but lemme let you in on a little secret. If you show up to her office hours, and get help every time she has her office open...she'll raise your grade dramatically. My friend and I were both gettng C's...but since he went to get "help"...his C magically turned into an A.
Great calculus teacher. I took AP calc in HS and got nothing but C's during the whole year (even though I deserved lower). After taking the class with Tighe, everything became much clearer. Know your algebra, do your hw, get help, that's all you really need to do to get an A. If you're bad at math, it'll be a struggle.
hes the best teacher ever. i hate math and she made me love it. i highly recommend her. justa side note. dont ever be late for class coz she creates a scene if u walk in wait. love her, shes the best
Best math teacher I've ever had. I had never taken Calculus before and I aced out of the final exam. She makes students actually like Calculus. Of course it's a hard subject, but her lectures are great and if you go to class, do the homework, and do the practice quizzes, you can succeed at Calculus.
By far the best i have had. She gives a lot of homework but its only because she wants you to get a lot of practice so that you can do well- calculus II is not easy and the more problems you do the better you become. She drops some quizzes and homework, and is very nice about bad exams (i.e. she gives extra credit).
Calc is hard, she makes it look easy but don't be fooled because it's still hard. Following in-class examples and going over her old exams and quizzes are helpful. Lots of homework. Discussion was useless due to the TA there.
i love her to death! she's the best teacher ever! she's so helpful and actually makes sure that students understand the material well and she gives out old exams online so you can memorize all the steps and answers for the exams and quizzes, that's how i got As on all my exams

She is the best teacher I've never had. If you plan to take calc2 don't hesitate take her
My favorite professor at UMBC. She gave me extra credit for writing the Integral Test the way Mr. T. would. You have to work hard, but quizzes and tests are related to homework.
BEST TEACHER EVER! You really learn a ton in her class, and as long as you do homework and review her old tests and quizzes, its almost impossible to fail. Good sense of humor as well
she doesn't even give practice quizzes anymore..her quizzes are extremely hard. she's tough and seems to NOT care anymore.
She really knows how to teach the subject. Great at clarifying the hard stuff, while reinforcing the concepts we need to succeed. Will definitely have her in Calc II!
she's horrible, could care less about her students. she's lazy and pretends to care. average class grade is a D.
Almost always late to class. Doesnt clearly explain what a section is about -just does lots of easy examples and expects you to catch on. Very helpful during her office hours if you go to them. Posts practice exams- but often makes mistakes in answer key (and when doing examples) Don't take Tighe's class if you dont have all your free time for math
Starting Spring '08, the textbook will be changed. However she was quite easy for Calc 2, there were plenty old exams, quizzes, finals posted on blackboard and if you studied from them you are guaranteed an A. However, now that the book has changed, I doubt she'll post anything online, just like Calc 1.
Nice lady. Loves to help and answer questions. Tests are very long, but she likes to give partial credit. Not too much hwk, and gives group quizzes. I have previously taken Song for another class and I strongly recommend her over Song! SHE'S THE BEST CALC TEACHER AT UMBC
Excellent lecturer. She's humorous, upbeat, helpful and expects you to put forth effort. She is more than happy to help her students in anyway possible such as holding extra help sessions in addition to her office hours.
Textbook not neccesary. There are example tests and quizes online from previous semesters and she makes her current ones exactley the same way (if you understand the practice ones you will pass the actual ones) There is homeowork on mathzone every week. Overall a very good teacher she has alot of energy and a firey personality. (love the red hair)
She is extremely perky and shows such enthusiasm for calc, that you start to get into it. She explains clearly, and is very helpful if you come for office hours. Posts previous quizes/exams--> if you study those, you'll get an A. She's funny and is the reason that I want a math minor, even though I used to hate math prior to this course.
She is a sweet person and really wants to see her students succeed. She presents material clearly and will give diff examples until you understand. She drops a few quizes and homeworks, gives so MANY extra credit opportunities, and gives previous exams/quizes to guide you. Definently one of the BEST TEACHERS i've had here.
I had Prof Tighe for both Calc 1 and 2. And she was awesome through out both. Her class can be difficult but she is always there to help. She can forget things like that she made office hours...but if you remind her and really communicate with her you will have no problem in her class. Go to class, do the homework, and try!
AMAZING teacher. very thorough and clear and loves her students. best teacher i have ever had. the class is hard but she provides you with everything you need to get an A. her TA is also the best TA ever. some extra credit is always offered. make sure you go to discussion.
Very good professor. Gets right to the point with teaching the material, which is VERY helpful. The course work was hard, but Mrs. Tighe is always available for help. If you have to take Calc II, take it with Mrs. Tighe
She makes calculus easy, and never hesitates to give one on one help.
She's funny, but when it comes to the exams, it's a bit tricky. Actually, it's hard. Unless you took Calc in high school, good luck studying. Go to her office hours; she'll help you out (especially when she gives out final grades).
Very interesting teacher, makes learning fun. Although the subject is difficult she goes out of her way to help you. Even has extra study hours where she'll answer any questions you have and even work one on one with you. Other students go to these hours, so eveyone helps each other out. Its very beneficial, wish every teacher did this.
Best math professor/teacher I have ever had
Mrs. Tighe is very helpful and clear. she makes the class not boring and actually keeps everyone's interest in class. her tests are extremely hard but if u go to study sessions she hold every week, it really helps. she gives out old quizes and exams to practice on and you get xtra credit if u do them. take her over other profs. if u can.
Her tests had ten questions, each question is half a page of answer. She curved down and up. Some people she made 7 into 9 and the others she made 7 into 5. Chew gum even when lecture. Lots of homework. Each homework had at least 30 questions, each question is half a page of answer. Take her class when you only take one class for a semester
Took calc in high school, so class was easy for me, but didn't seem too hard. Quizzes were hard, but really helped for exams. Make sure you practice problems. She's very entertaining, good sense of humor. Ask questions, she'll answer and help you out. Loves participation. Some EC in discussion, but STUDY for exams.
I got an A. Bonny Tighe is a very good professor. She makes the lecture material difficult so the exams are much easier. She makes calculus interesting which is hard to do. But you still have to put in work to do well. Make sure you study for the quizzes every Friday.
She was a great teacher. I had her for a whole year of my freshman year. She at first I thought was going to be a little intimidating the 1rst week but then I realized it was just her sarcastic/funny personality. She is willing to help you until you understand. She is really passionate about teaching. GREAT PERSON IN GENERAL ALSO! : )
GREAT TEACHER!! At first she seems intimidating but then I just confused that with her bold/sarcastic/funny personality. She always is determined to help you if you ask her until you understand. Great quizzes every week because we can work with a group! She is my favorite teacher so far because it is obvious her passion for teaching!
Good teacher as far as TEACHING goes, but shes snarky. If you have a stupid question, she'll make you feel stupid while answering it. Not that I asked any... Her grading system is really fair, but overall shes just kind of rude.
Best math teacher I've had. She is great at explaining hard concepts. She breaks things down and repeats herself so that everyone can understand it. The only downfall is there is alot of online homework that is time consuming. Quiz once a week but if you do the past quizes you'll do good. The homework helps alot to prepare for quizes too
Best teacher I've had, hands down. I hated calculus in high school because I didn't understand it, but the way she explains everything it makes total sense. She's available for extra office hours to work on problems (which i heard are helpful) and she puts out old quizzes to study from. Seriously take her if you can!
She is the best math teacher ever! If you have the chance take with her, you will learn so much more than with anyone else. She makes it so clear what she wants you to be able to do. Go to her for help, because no one will want to help you more or be able to help you better. Also the final will be insanely difficult if you haven't had her.
Dont' be discouraged in the beginning of the class...she trys to warn people by intimidating them to weed people out. But she is extremely nice and very helpful. Just go to class, listen, and you'll do fine. A lot of people failed the tests, but I think they didn't come to class. Just as many people got A's. Best teacher for calculus
She is an ok teacher...but she is SO DAMN RUDE. Ive never met someone with as much sarcasm in my life.
I took Math 151 last semester and took this class right after and had a feeling it will be terribly hard course but I just finished and it was easy. Just do all the homework thoroughly and keep up with A+ on quizzes and the material that she teaches. Reading prior to class helps. Her exams are known to be extremely hard but it's really not.
Very, very, very hard teacher. However, she definitely knows what she's talking about. If you need a good structure and someone to kick your butt in order to learn, shes the one for you. Great teacher, but hard.
She's a tough professor, but if you do the work (pay attention in class, take notes, homework, study, etc) you'll do well and learn a lot. Also, don't be afraid to go to her for help. She's very willing to aid anyone who asks, and she will usually go over practice problems with you.
BEST MATH PROFESSOR AT UMBC!!!!! She lets you know exactly what is required to know for the exams, gives you plenty of practice exams and quizes, and the problems are similar just with diff numbers. She is very clear, she really cares if you are doing well or not. Just put in half the work she tells you, and guaranteed A!!!!
Overall, she's a good teacher. She could definitely do without the attitude but it's not so bad. She's very clear on what she expects and provides practice exams/quizzes that are very similar to the real deal.
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE.If you like learning everything on your own take tighe and don't bother going to class. Wastes 10 min a class talking about non-sense. Only went over examples in reading. Tests are not like homeworks. Good hard calc class with independent thought involved which I like but the material is glossed over @ best + the book sucks
She gives you practice exams and quizzes from last semester with the exact same material that will be on the quiz/exam you are taking. Can't get any easier than that! She does have a bit of an attitude but she's also really nice sometime. She's human so of course she'd have emotions. Duh!
Mrs. Tighe's class is pretty hard. She expects you to do your work, study and not slack off. Go to her office hours, she really cares and helps you learn. DO NOT SLACK OFF IN HER CLASS, she knows the people that put effort in her class.
I've never understood all of the hype about Mrs. Tighe. Overall, she's an okay teacher. She has an irritating attitude and her exams focus more on algebra than calculus. I earned an A in her class, but I feel like my high school calculus teachers were more efficient and helpful.
She is a bit overrated. The main goal of her teaching seems to be about solving a bunch of routine calculus problems quickly. The exams are not about a good understanding of calculus either; instead, they test one's ability to do bunch of ugly problems fast. Personally she is very nice, however, I would not recommend her despite all the hype.
lets just say she took the asian out of me. she took my love of math, my straight A streak in math from algebra to pre-calc..AWAY. now thats not right. take gloor (he's a beast) rather than tighe; you wont regret it. i sware you that.
i would like her test content to be more challenging and actually have to do with what we learn in class and in the book... btw, the book was useless to me no matter how hard i tried... she was ok but i dont recommend her if you want a good understanding of CALC, esp if youre going to take math in subsequent semesters. mega attitude and not cool :(
I had Raji first but transferred to Tighe and that was such a mistake, kinda. She explains things well. When it comes to exams, it was like I was looking at new material. They really hard. But she missed a few classes and end up leaving in the middle of the semester because she had lymphoma.
I love Mrs. Tighe! Her exams are pretty tough but her quizzes are certainly manageable in comparison. Although she doesn't curve her exams, she offers several other opportunities for grade inflation. She's intimidating at first, but if you go to her office hours she's super nice and helpful. Very clear and concise, I took Calc 2 just to have her!
One of the best math teachers at UMBC. As long as you go to class and ask for help when you need it you WILL be fine. She is approachable. Her exams are tough so just beware that this isn't your normal skip catch up class. I would recommend her highly :)
She is very smart and genuinely likes calc. Read the section in the book before going to class. Do ALL the homework (even though she drops 5). Do practice quiz/exams if she gives them. Don't forget to look over your notes before the exam. TAKE GREAT NOTES! I got an A by practicing every old problem, quiz, or exam I could find.
She is the best math teacher I have ever had. The course is a difficult course, but she makes it easier. If you show up to class and do minimal work outside of class besides the homework, you can get an A.
Mrs Tighe is great if you let her know you
Ms. Tighe is a good teacher in a difficult subject. You pretty much will have to go to lecture and discussion if you want to do well, this stuff is not easy. She does manage to make the stuff fairly clear. Exams and tests can be a little tough, but if you can do well on most of them you will be fine, some of the lowest HWs and quizzes get dropped.
This class is already hard. She was very nice but had a certain way she wanted you to solve problems. The exams were long and hard to finish. You have to practice alot if you want to finish. She also expects you to read before class so you already know what you go over in class. She left early in the semester due to illness but she was good overall
Absolutely not understanding, not willing to help out in relation to personal issues. Assumes that this is our only class and is unwilling to listen when students have timing conflicts (with a full time job for example). For the sake of personal sanity, avoid her.
I dont know if its because this is her first semester teaching 155 or if she's just mean but she treats her math 155 students like we're not smart enough to be in 151. She is not very helpful and her quizzes are more like tests. Basically study on your own and you'll pass. Do yourself a favor and take 155 with someone else.
LOVE HER!!!!!!! She is amazing in this class and i recommend her no matter what math you have to take - try to get Tighe!!!!
Overall your basically teaching yourself in Math 155. Either you know the material from high school or you dont, if you dont it will be really hard, more than half of her class is failing, while a small percentage is doing good, I would not recommend her as a teacher. She can be very rude and always has a sarcastic comment to say.
i love her! i take two class with her and she will help you if your willing to learn and if you let her know who you are. her exams and quizzes are similar to old exams and quizzes and she does post up the old exams and quizzes on BB!
Probably one of the worst professors Iv'e ever had. Course material wasn't hard, her rude attitude is unbearable and unnecessary. She treats her A+ students much different then everyone else (I'm one). Made the class feel unintelligent by talking down to us for taking MA155 rather then the harder clac. Avoid unless you will be an A+ student.
Shes an above average professor. Going to lectures helps, and she knows her materials really well. Shes funny in class. But sometimes she doesn't very interested in helping student when you tell her your issues.
I think Bonnie was a great teacher. She is definitely sassy and will call you out if she is in a bad mood and you are texting or "disrupting the class", but I found the lessons really easy to understand. If you are decent at math and attend every class and do the homework, you will be fine. Also we barely used the book, don't buy it.
Great prof, makes it easier than it has to be,still need to work hard and do well on exams, don't fall behind
A truly wonderful woman who truly cares about her students. I would recommend her to anyone.
The best math professor that teaches one of the most difficult classes. Calc 2 is brutal, but she does everything she can to help you without watering the material. Go to her weekly study sessions in CASTLE. They saved my life. If you need more time, she loves helping students during her office hours. She deserves every compliment mentioned here.
Good professor. Kind of sassy, but she's funny. She cares about her students and will help. Her exams were hard in the sense that there were a lot of questions in a limited amount of time. Her exams made the final easy though. I recommend her.
I love Professor Tighe. She is always willing to help students and definitely likes to teach calc. Don't show up late to class though because it makes her mad.. all in all I recommend her!
She spends precious class time pointing out those who enter late. She actually STOPS CLASS, therefore limiting her own instruction of the students who are already there. It is unfair to those in class. She spends time telling us how little we know about various topics as opposed to teaching us about said topics. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Tighe is great! She cares about her students unlike any other prof. Calc 1 is definitely hard and it requires a lot of time and effort to succeed, but Tighe is fantastic. She makes it clear exactly what you need to know. Go to lecture, it definitely pays off!
Mrs. Tighe is a great teacher! Calc 1 is not an easy subject but if you go to her for help and really work for it, you should be able to get a good grade. She can be a little rude sometimes but if you work hard, you'll be fine.
She's an excellent teacher - her exams are pretty tough but fair. Classroom is pretty social so it's easy to get into study groups which will help even more. If you take her class over the summer the quizzes are in groups (exams aren't, make sure you know your stuff.) Also, she's super nice.
Wow she is simply an amazing teacher. I do not know why she even had some bad comments in the past, she went through a teaching workshop where she improved everything about her class. Her exams and quizzes for 152 are much easier than Brian deans. She answers all questions in class, has great office hours and now offers extra credit in her classes.
One of the best teachers out there. She is very helpful and clear in class and cares about your success. Extra credit is available and quizes are in groups with the lowest 3 being dropped and 4 lowest HW's. I also suggest to NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK because its useless; she provides you with handouts for each lesson that are much more clear helpful
She's the best math professor ever!! Shes willing to help and gives us 5 hours every Friday to do homework with her! She's very clear and really nice. Also gives nice and funny examples to help us understand better. Only thing, goes fast is lecture. But I love her. If you have the opportunity...take her class!!
Very helpful teacher, she was intimidating at first but was very nice when I approached her. Her class is tough but if you do all the practice exam/quizzes and go to class you won't have any problem getting an A. Very sassy and funny.
Great teacher, very clear and helpful, quizzes are in groups, and the tests aren't too bad if you go to class and really study the homework and quizzes. Highly recommend for Calc 2
She was amazing, and very kind if you went to her office hours for help. One of the best!
One of the best calculus professors you will encounter. Makes a difficult subject very clear and concise. Also keeps the class engaged and has a sense of humor. Excellent professor, I would highly recommend her.
If you actually do the work and study, easy A. Personally, I am lazy and didn't try too hard. Yet, I will still get a B. Tighe is the best calculus teacher at UMBC; anyone I know agrees with me. She may be the "toughest," but she'll prepare you and you'll be less stressed in the long run. Don't question it: if you're going to take calc, Tighe wins.
She is not here to joke around when it comes to Math. She's really nice, really easy to talk to, but she is going to make sure you learn the material better than any other professor. If you want an easy class, don't take her. If you actually want to pass the class knowing the material and get an A on the final take her class.
She's a great professor if you're willing to put in the work. She gives 3 exams and a final during a semester and they're somewhat lengthy. Though the exams are all harder than the final, so by the end of the semester it's basically a victory lap.
Very good teacher. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended. Tighe often explains things differently than the text, and her examples usually pop up on the exams. Exams have extra questions, so if you work quickly there is the potential for extra credit. I found weekly quizzes more challenging than the exams. WebAssign homework.
Mrs. Tighe is a hard teacher, but is also one of the best teachers I've taken. She explains everything clearly. Quizzes are taken in groups. Exams are hard, but if you study hard you can get a B or an A. You will learn a lot in this course. Take her class!!
AMAZING professor. I had her for MATH151 and 152. Before taking her classes, I HATED calculus, but after calc 1 and calc 2, I left with a love of the subject and a feeling that I actually understood it. Best professor I've ever had.
We don't use calculators because it is all possible to solve without one; unless you are doing the homework because you need to put the exact answer. She is good teacher, but she makes the quizzes and exams hard. ALWAYS print out the class material before class, which she sends via email unless you have photographic memory...
I had Bonny for Math 131 Part 1 and Part 2 (elementary education math class) This class was not an education class but strictly a math class. She teaches by showing which is the greatest thing a professor can do. She knows math VERY well and knows how to teach it. She has her tangents every now and again but get ready to work in her class.
No one has ever explained Calculus in such a simple, easy to understand, and fun way. She speaks in a language that everyone can easily understand and as long as you understand and pay attention the homework, the quizzes and exams are a piece of cake.
Her lectures were really clear and on point, one of the best lecturers I've had; she explains things that can be overwhelming in a really simplistic way. She may come of as intimidating, but really cares about her students. Her quizzes are in groups. Exams are tough, but will prepare you for the final. Don't expect this class to be an easy A.
She gives printed notes. Exams are harder than the rest of the professors, but she teaches the material very well so you should do fine. Know your algebra and trig. Overall, she made calculus fun for me, I really enjoyed the class.
If you want to study really hard and take exams that are not a reflection of her lectures then definitely take her class. She writes down the procedure of the problem and expects you to write it down. Her handouts are pure laziness on her behalf. She could do a much better job of explaining the material. Nice lady, sucky teacher. NO Ph.d.
Ms. Tighe is a fantastic professor, but she expects you to put in the effort to understand the material she presents at lectures. She is extremely helpful if you go to office hours and castle. Her humor is absolutely a plus, and she is very clear cut as to her expectations for the course.
Math 152 can be a challenging course for many students. It is especially challenging for those who skipped straight into Math 151 or Math 152. Tighe gives good lectures (or so I've been told), and the tests are very similar to tests from previous classes. The quizzes are done in groups, and quizzes from previous years are available online.
Professor Tighe is a very hard grader and the material might be hard for you to understand if you don't go to lecture. She is very fair and open to suggestions. Tests are hard but the large amount of homework and group quizzes definitely prepare you. She is very sarcastic and funny.
I took 151 for the 3rd time wher. 1st time w Nanes & got a D, 2nd time w Dean, got a D. Took it with Tighe, got an A. She makes the material so easy. Quizzes are from lecture notes, Exams from quizzes, Final from exams-study and you'll get an A wher. She seems mean in class but if you see her in 'castle' for help, she is the sweetest person.
She uploads packets of notes that are 'fill in the blank' so that you can keep up during class and listen wo having to worry about writing down EVERYTHING! She will answer questions during class (immediately remembers the students who do!) and encourages office hour visits. She wants you to learn the material and gives every chance to contact her.
Great Professor! She made the material so easy to understand. She was also funny and easy to listen to. Super understanding. I had a problem with taking one of the exams at the scheduled time and she let me take it a day late (I let her know before hand). With I could have her for calc III. One of the best professors I've had.
Tighe is awesome. The best math professor I've had by far. I took 151 and 152 with her and she is the reason I understood it. If you work hard she will give you the grade you deserve. Her tests are harder than other professors but the final is easy. If you go to class and do the work, it's easy to get an A.
Good math teacher. She did not make the tests easy, you will need to study. I took AP Calc and still had to study for my A.
She's amazing. Take her for Calc I, or you will miss out. She is so funny when you get to know her. And if you stay on top of the material, her class will be a breeze.
One of the best professors in the department!
She will work you to the bone. The tests are hard, and the quizzes are killer. The thing is, in the 2 classes I had with her, she doesn't make the final, another, easier professor does. So, her students are used to harder tests, and are more prepared for the final. Regardless, I never would have anyone else teach me math.
Her tests are a little bit harder than the other teachers but that just makes you more prepared for the final. Can seem a bit intimidating at times but don't be afraid to ask questions duringafter class, she'll respect you for it. Make sure to do a bit of studying on your own to get an A. Be sure to stop by CASTLE for math help and a Tighe hat.
Mrs. Tighe is one of the best professors you can have for Calc II at UMBC. She is very good at what she does and makes sure you get what shes doing. Dont be intimidated by her, shes a sweetheart; go to Castle on friday for extra help. How to Succeed: STUDY FOR THE QUIZZES AND EXAMS FROM THE WORKSHEETS AND TEXTBOOK.
Bonny Tighe is a great lecturerboth clear and engaging! This isn't a class that you can get an A without learning the material, but It's taught in a way that makes it easy and accessible. If you put your due in, you'll get an A or B. CASTLE (Tighe's and Prof Nanes Friday coach class) is a great resource, & you just might get a hat out of it!
Bonny Tighe is a great teacher. She made it clear that you needed to actually understand the material to pass, so just take the class seriously. Definitely go to lectures because she does lots of practice problems in class. Khan academy videos and the homework website webassign mostly helped me pass because she goes kind of fast over the materials.
Professor Tighe made Calc II a great experience. Her unit exams were tougher, which allowed me to feel more than prepared while taking the final. Her lecture notes were always clear and full of good examples. I always looked forward to her class because of her hilarious personality. Definitely one of the best professors here.
I did not like Tighe at all. Yeah, she gives a lot of examples in class but she goes through them fast, usually skipping multiple steps. I had to do a lot of work outside of class. I honestly hated her sarcasm and pessimistic comments. She's tough, which I appreciate but she's just bad at explaining the material.
Great teacher. Quizes can be a bit difficult, but exams aren't too bad. Ms. Tighe definitely makes the final exam look like the easiest exam in the world if you do well in the class.
I LOVE Ms. Tighe. She's the best math teacher I've ever had. Quizzes and tests are straightforward, just practice with the old quizzes and exams and they are pretty much exactly the same, just with different numbers. Final is easy and can replace your first exam grade. Took AP calc AB in high school (2 on the test), but got a 99% in calc 1.
She is a tough old tigher (: difficult grader, but she tells you what she expects and wont take less than that. Be ready to work but it is very possible to succeed in her class. She is one of the best teachers I have had at UMBC. Would recommend
She is the one of the best Math Professors I've ever had. Defiantly ask for help if you don't understand her and her TAs will work with you. She wants her students to do well!
Probably the best Calculus II teacher at UMBC. Sometimes she goes through her lectures too fast without thoroughly explaining things and you just get lost, but if you do well in her class, you will be very good at Calculus II in general. Sometimes took off points for stupid things, though, like writing "3 + 1/4" instead of "3 1/4".
Best Calculus teacher on campus in terms of explaining what to do. However, she is not the easiest. So you have to make a choice; do I want to pass and not know most of the things for the final or do I want to suffer a little to understand the content. Most students pick the latter; which is respectable.
While intimidating at first, she is very sweet, funny, and approachable. Her exams are very difficult, but as long as you prepare well with the quizzes and practice exams, it'll be better. She talks quickly in her lectures, but if you let her know, she'll go slower. She answers all your questions and offers as much help as she can.
She is by far my favorite professor at UMBC thus far as a college student. I had her for both calc 1 and calc 2, and she made it not only understandable, but fun to learn. Going to her lectures were always enjoyable, and a must. The homework is the hardest you will do to prepare for quizzes, and then quizzes prepare you for exams. Would recommend.
Best math teacher I've had! She is great at math and teaching both, so she is who you want teaching a difficult course like calculus 2. Always helpful with questions and in office hours. Partial credit always given. Quizzes are in groups, but with individual submissions. Print out her lecture notes before classes, they really help you follow along.
She is an AMAZING professor. In both courses she emailed everyone outlines for the lectures so it was very easy to follow along with what she was saying. The tests were a little long and difficult but it really prepared you for the final exam. In addition to that she posted multiple quizzes and exams from previous years so you knew what to expect.
Calculus II is hard on its own, don't really like the way she teaches it. Lectures are online, so are practice quizzes and tests, they are HARD, be PREPARED. She projects the lecture sheets, goes over theorems, then problems. Terrible way to teach, but passable if that's your thing.
If you work through her quizzes and practice exams, you are guaranteed an A. GO TO CASTLE. Develop a relationship with her and your TAs. It may save you on an exam or in my case, a letter grade.
She's very funny
LOVED Prof. Tighe. While she seems intimidating at first and her humor is demeaning to the unprepared, she is a sweet woman. Never had a professor who made winter hats for her students who came to office hours. The material is difficult and exams are challenging, but it trains you for the final. Take her class, but be prepared to do some work.
Compared to other teachers, Bonny Tighe is the hardest. Her quizzes and exams are longer and harder. Many people fail this course in general and I can tell you taking it with her makes this easier. She is a very good teacher and puts effort into the class, but if you want to increase your chances of passing Calc 2, don't take her.
I failed the class I took with her. I got a D. But she taught me more than most professors and I retook her class and got a B. She helped me understand the mathematical thought process, and not just how to solve math problems. I promise you if you put in the time, you will be on your way to understand math much much better with her guidance.
Tighe is an okay professor. However, her lecture solutions and quiz keys sometimes give wrongful answers, giving students a higher chance of getting low scores on tests.
She is such a BOMB teacher seriously. She is the best teacher for calculus. Anybody that didn't do well did not take the time to reach out to her and get help.
Very tough class, old quizzes and exams are sometimes helpful, but what she throws on her actual tests can be very challenging. Expect finals to be much more difficult.
This is a difficult class, but Tighe is a great teacher. She is tough, but she can also be humorous and if you reach out for help she is more than happy to give it to you. She really knows her stuff but does not tolerate disrespect.T Definitely come to class as her lectures are very helpful, and from there it is practice practice PRACTICE!
Get ready to work like crazy, but when you finish the class you'll be doing math in your sleep. Not for the faint of heart but she's the way to go if you really want to learn the material. Moves quickly and seems a bit grumpy at first but she's happy to slow down if you need help and is really the sweetest woman if you ever talk to her one-on-one.
A great professor. She is a bit sarcastic at times, but it is very funny and brings some humor to class. Her teaching is great. She drops quizzes and replaces your lowest exam grade with the final. Her exams are hard, and so are her quizzes, but the final was a breeze. I would recommend her to anyone interesting in learning calc.
She was a very helpful professor, clarified any difficulties and told us the type of format for the final exam (Calc 2). Even though her quizzes and exams were difficult, because of the final exam, I managed to maintain a B in this class. Tighe rocks!!
Ms. Tighe is an amazing teacher. She is very demanding of her students and really expects a lot. I was motivated and worked very hard, and even though math is not my best subject I improved so much this semester. You will probably have to work very hard, but it is worth it, also her lectures are important and you should not miss them.
Not a math person but somehow survived. She expects a lot from her students but gives you the tools you need to be successful. Lectures are interesting and she's a very kind and understanding professor. Do the practice exams to prepare!
Bonny Tighe is an amazing professor. She provides her students with many resources to succeed in the class. She also gives advice about things outside of the classroom.
Mrs. Tighe is a very good professor and really cares about her students to do well. She might seem hard and scary at first but as the semester progresses, you will love her! I highly recommend her!
She is hilarious and really helps you to enjoy calc. She is caring and very approachable. I agree with the statement about her being scary at first but she really is a sweetheart. Best proffesor I have had yet. She prepares you well for exams; important thing is going to class and putting in work on practice problems to succeed
Professor Tighe is easily the best Math professor I have had throughout all of my years in school. She knows what she is talking about, and she is also realistic in the work that she gives in and out of class. Just be sure to start the homework a few days before it is due.
She is honestly the best Calc I teacher I ever have. She really takes the time to go through each problem and explains on how to do it! Sometimes she can go a bit fast, but otherwise as long as you pay attention in her lectures and practice her quiz and exams, then you should be fine!
She makes you work, but you will definitely learn something if you try.
Ms. Tighe's prowess in teaching makes her a remarkable professor that I would highly recommend to anyone planning to take Math 152. She understands that most of her students possess a superficial understanding of basic algebra skills, and she focuses a good portion of her teaching on algebra techniques because of this.
Personable, invested, thorough. Listens, and is genuinely interested in helping students do well. Excellent!
She's a tough professor but it's so worth it. She cares if you care and she's really laid back. If you need a calc 1 or 2 professor at UMBC highly recommend.
Tighe was the only professor I liked before I transferred out of UMBC. What she teaches is exactly what's going to be on the exam. She posts old quizzes and exams and she is very consistent every year with what kind of problems will be on exam and quizzes. She might seem unapproachable but she is a very sweet lady.
great professor. I took her for calc 1 and calc 2 and she breaks it down into simple algorithms so you can use the same patterns for different problems. If you can take her, TAKE TIGHE. Wonderful prof.
This course is fairly easy as Prof. Tighe is very good at explaining calc ii. She posts everything online including lecture notes and old quizzes/exams. Exams are extremely fair but also very long. Apparently the final was curved, but if you spend time to understand the content you won't need it.
I want to believe all these positive reviews are true, but it's not (at lest I've never got the experience that these guys have got) I'm taking her in the summer and I am currently failing calc 2 and I am trying. Quizzes aren't given back in a timely matter to study from and the TA's just straight up don't care. Try to take someone else if you can.
I took her because she was super highly recommended by literally everyone on campus, but I ended up dropping. When I found myself taking her class I just couldn't understand anything. If you need a teacher who explains every step out so you understand the hows and whys of the math you're doing, you might be better off with w/ someone else.
Mrs. Tighe is a wonderful professor. I am not the greatest at Math and so calculus 1 was a little challenging. She gives out quizzes that she has used in previous years as practice. She also gives 10% curve on the tests. She is nice and if you go to lectures and do the work, you should pass her class.
Professor Tighe is a quality professor, explains everything really well. My favorite professor.
Mrs. Tighe has been teaching mathematics for many many years. Her lectures are formated incredibly well, and she uploads her notes to BlackBoard. To get A's on her exams, practice exams from the semester she taught before (accessible on BB) because they are nearly identical to the test you will take.
Though she is a tough grader she prepares us well (along with the TAs). She has tons of previous quizzes and exams for students to practice and posts all the lecture notes. She is available outside of lecture and overall is great. You might have to get use to her personality though
You need to be willing to dedicate a HUGE amount of time to studying, but Tighe is absolutely the best option if you want to come away from this class with some real skills for a future in Math. The amount of practice problems she has from old exams and quizzes are nearly endless. GO TO PROF + TA OFFICE HOURS! Practice w/ feedback is the key!
Prof. Tighe is my favorite professor this semester, she isn't easy but definitely wants everyone to succeed. I enjoyed going to lectures and her tests were always fair, she gives you every tool possible to succeed
She's an amazing teacher and gives you absolutely everything you need to get an A, it's just that you actually need to do it
She might come off as tough but she is really caring and wants her student to walk away with BOTH knowledge and good grades. Most math professors here only care about grades and if you memorize their exams, you'd pass. Tighe is really focused on making you understand the materials. 100% recommend her!
she is great to take her if you can, she is a bit difficult compared to other teachers but other teachers don't teach and she is a great teacher and she makes the final so if you are used to the other professor the final is gonna be hard
Prof. Tighe is overall a great professor, as she goes through step by step explaining how to do problems. She can go through the notes a bit too quickly at times, but if someone asks she can slow down. The tests and quizzes can be difficult, but she provides plenty of practice exams and quizzes online to help. Discussion is also very helpful.
Mrs. Tighe is a phenomenal professor. I had her for both Calc I and II and received A's in both. She has "print out lectures" that she provides, or you print them out and fill in as you go along in class. She has her old quizzes and exams online, so if you go to class, take good notes and study the old stuff, you'll have no issue getting an A.
She is a really great professor and she is funny too which helps when the material is really tough and you just want to die. The class was really difficult for me but that is because calc 2 is not an easy class, if you actually do the problems that she does in class and work hard, then you can get a good grade. Could have gotten a B, but oh well.
She told us beginning of the semester "It is not my job to teach you. It is your job to teach yourselves from the book and I am here to give u strategies and guidance." MandatoryAttend ButSheDoesn'tTeachInLecture SheJustDoesTheProblems AndIfAnyoneAsksForExplanation SheTreatsThemLikeTheyAreStupid ForNotAlreadyKnowing "BecauseThisIsSoEasy" (HerWords)
She is a very good teacher, and goes through lot of examples in class, though she sometimes goes through actual notes a little too fast. You NEED to read the textbook, since she doesn't go over very much outside of examples or the first 10 minutes of class. Her TAs are almost completely useless, and they NEVER give helpful answers to questions.
I had Professor Tighe for Calc 151. The good thing about her is that she gives you previous quizzes and tests for last semesters and the previous years before so you can see what is going to be on the test and quizzes. The bad thing is she is a very strict grader she has a standard on students on how you do things
Tighe is a great professor. She goes thru lectures quick, but will stop and explain better if you ask. Blank notes, previous quizzes/tests, etc are provided, so there is a lot of material that can help you prepare for exams. She's very down-to-earth and understanding, too.
Bonny is fantastic! I took two courses at UMBC quite a while ago, and she was genuine and accessible. Seems gruff, but is very humorous and quite enjoyable!
Tighe makes you teach everything to yourself. What's covered in lectures and on homeworks, is a lot easier than what she tests you on. She's had to curve most of our exams and quizzes because so many people aren't learning what's being tested. She makes a lot of mistakes and expects the students to deal with them, good luck to those who have her.
Tighe is a national treasure. She gave amazing lectures and really wanted the students to pass. She was a tough grader and had not time for questions she had already answered so pay attention. If you really don't understand she is willing to work with you outside of class. Her quizzes were the right amount of difficulty.
she offers loads of materials and options for extra learning. Unfortunately I took her online and I can faithfully say that she is terrible at online learning. Not only does she shrug off student complaints, but her online quizzes are often times graded wrong, she usually does not even go back and fix them. Only take if in person
Tighe is the best professor I've had at UMBC, period. That being said, she's tough. She makes you take pre-reading quizzes before the lectures, plenty of long HWs, tough quizzes and exams. Sounds awful, but trust me, she gives you the resources to do well. Great lectures, and a fair grader. Going to OH is your key to an A with her. Very accessible.
She is not only strict, but also be mean sometimes.
If you learn best from reading the text then Tighe is the teacher for you. When you come to class it is expected you will be able to do problems from that days lesson. Her teaching method is 70% doing problems & 30% going on verbal tangents. I watched professor Leonard videos all semester to actually learn the material.
she may seem harsh and a little scary at first but shes nice & i got the vibes of 'i want u to pass, but u gotta put in the work' from her. like its calc, so ofc it's gona be hard, but I think you hav a chance if you spend ur time on hw, practice problems, previous exams & quizzes + she'll help u outside of class.
Mrs. Tighe is a great professor, but she's tough. She makes you take pre-reading quizzes, tedious HWs, and challenging quizzes and exams. She provides a lot of old exams and old quizzes. She has high expectations for students but provides you with a great foundation for Calc 3. SI Pass and Office hours are also extremely helpful.
Tighe is really good, I really like her as a professor. She gives off sweet grandmother vibes and has a good sense of humor. The only thing I don't really like about her is her slow grading sometimes. She's been having some health issues so it's understandable but sometimes throughout the semester, we've been held in limbo for weeks w/ exams.
Professor Tighe is awesome!! She really knows her stuff, is super approachable, and gives very good lectures. sure the classes are hard, but if you go to class and have good study habits, it'll be a breeze.
Tighe is honestly not a great teacher. She often times will stop answering questions midway if she forgets how its done and moves onto the next problem. If you ask questions during lecture, she asks the student why they didn't learn it in algebra or something. She is very respected though and not too harsh. Just a difficult teacher.
She is definitely not nice or sweet. She gets smart when people ask a question she thinks you should already know the answer to. Lectures are very choppy. She has incomplete problems and skips problems that she can't figure out herself. Don't skip lecture bc you'll be more confused when you look at the mess that is her lecture notes w/o context.
Honestly the only reason I am not failing this class is because I took calc AB and BC in high school. I can always feel the confusion and irritation every lecture. She just goes through practice problems, but she constantly messes up and we have to correct her. The TAs in the discussion are a lot more helpful, and we have weekly quizzes.
Tighe makes a lot of mistakes in lecture. Exams are hard, but it helps to look at the past exams uploaded on blackboard. Really picky on partial credit. TAs in discussion are helpful.
The class average at the moment is between 67% -70%. This says a lot about what kind of professor she is. She is very picky with her partial credit and is a harsh grader. I have to teach myself 90% of the material because her lectures aren't helpful.
Tighe is a very average professor. She gives good lectures and her notes are easy to follow, but her exams are brutal. I often ever was able to even finish them in the given time, and partial credit is few and far between. My quiz and homework grades were the only reason I didn't fail. She makes Calc 1 a total slog, so try for another prof.
Skips the problems she can't solve. Horrible notes, can barely read what she wrote, doesn't show all her work. Gets annoyed or frustrated when someone asks a question. Lectures are not helpful and she goes really fast and barely explains what she's doing. Only pro is that she provides past quizzes and tests. But grades barely get updated. Just no
Class is a mess. No point in going to lectures because she is on a different topic while everyone is trying to study the previous topic for an upcoming test. Harsh grader. Half of the time the practice quizzes for the tests aren't even on bb. Sometimes her lecture notes are wrong. I promise you, you will teach yourself the course. Don't chose her
Tighe's tests are more complex then other calc 2 professors and no longer match her prior year examples. The average score on the second midterm was 50%. Her solution to this was the spend the first 5 minutes of lecture complaining about how terrible her students are.
Guys, I don't think you understand the struggle. She is not even my professor but she makes my final exam and that thing looks awful you will not be able to even comprehend 50% of it. So try really hard all semester.
She makes a lot of mistakes during lectures, gets sassy if you ask questions, AND THE EXAMS ARE DUBIOUS! The exam questions are overly complicated and unreasonable, but at least the exams and quizzes are recycled so study the past assessments.
Mrs. Tighe is not a bad person but a terrible teacher. I asked for help multiple times yet still received none. If you have a choice do not take Tighe. She will belittle you if you do not understand something and instead of helping will ask "Why didn't you learn this in Algebra??"
Tbh I learned much more from YouTube and the old quizzes/exams than I did from her lectures but this applies to a certain extent for all calc professors here. What I knock her for is the over-the-top quizzes which were harder than other professors. She is a somewhat snark lady at times but that's negated by how nice she can be outside of class.
Doesn't teach, just does practice problems without explanation or just outright does them wrong. Very disorganized, multiple times she didn't give her TA's the quizzes they were supposed to administer and had to call tech support for very basic issues. Tests are also too long for the allotted time. The textbook is a better teacher and will save you

Tighe is old, and she gets sick often hindering her from teaching us. She's also very snarky and mean with her responses to any questions during lecture. Her quizzes are 10 questions and 50 minutes (much harder than all the other professors) and her exams are notoriously horrendous with one being 25 questions and having only 50 minutes to complete.
Extremely difficult course, but the professor does everything she can to help you. I highly recommend taking her if you need Calc 2.
If you really want to learn the content, take Tighe. Her quizzes and exams are harder but I learned so much. It prepared me for 152 (currently taking). Suffered through it but it was worth it. She was entertaining and kept my attention the whole lecture. She did take surprise attendance once and it was worth a grade. Actually learned in lecture.
Avoid at all costs
Tighe is by far the worst professor I've encountered in my academic career. Often makes mistakes lecturing, I no longer attend because its a genuine waste of time. Quizzes and exams are made intentionally long (around four to five pages per quiz, given 50 minutes to complete) and difficult, problems are dubious compared to other UMBC professors.
After a midterm she tore into the class for poor scores. A week later all the grades increased. She wouldn't explain it, the TA informed me that Professor Tighe had sent all the graders the wrong answer key. So when discovered to be at fault after spending 30 minutes ranting to the class about their performance pretends her mistake never happened.
Bonny tighe is the worst professor at UMBC. If my professor was a dog i would have a better grade because then at least i would have the will to attend lecture. Quizzes and exams are so long that barely anyone finishes in time. No one got an A on an exam so she gave everyone 10 free points. Every average grade on hwr exams are failing. Just dont.
Tons of people seem to rag on Tighe and her class and claim that it's difficult and that she's hard to deal with, while I see their POV I have to disagree. She does tend go fast on topics and loses track of what she's meant to be teaching, but if you're a person who can cram material a day before an exam or quiz then you'll do well.
Very bad "Teacher", doesnt teach anything in class, rather solves problems on the board. She consistently gets problems wrong and its always an argument with the class to see her mistakes. I don't know how she's allowed to teach anymore. She doesn't know how to use her tablet so expect to sit there and watch her struggle during the lectures
Insane she's allowed to teach. Makes mistakes we have to correct, every minute or so. Often takes several people to correct her, then w a straight face blames us for not "explaining ti clearly". Other times she says she's testing us. She's way too old for this. Half her lectures are spent figuring out how to use her iPad. Will be self-taught.
DO NOT TAKE MATH 151 with Bonny Tighe, YOU WILL REGRET IT. I had her and she was one of if not the worst possible professor i could've gotten here at UMBC, you might aswell not even attend her lectures because i promise you that you wont learn anything. Before i even seen her she had made something due on webassign which she told no one about.
Reading most reviews on this professor most concerns are correct she is old and often times has problems with her iPad and she can make mistakes which is human. However she listens to the class and does multiple example problems to help explain the concepts. She also provides blank course notes papers to easily follow her in class.
Im currently taking this class and abeg stay away from this woman. She designs her quiz for you to fail she says 15 hours a week for her class it will swallow your time. her test are long with insufficient time. She cant even teach with the 50 minutes of time you give her. if you haven't taken calculus you most likely WILL fail.
I am currently in her class and DONT TAKE THIS CLASS she is by far the worst professor I have had in my lifetime it genuinely surprises me that she is still able to teach. You will have to self teach yourself all the material. Quizzes are very long. She showed up late to our exam day and didn't sufficient time to finish.
I love Tighe! Take her if you want to have a deep understanding of calc. Exams and quizzes are not easy but they're very similar to the problems she does in class. She seems intimidating but she's sweet if you approach her after class or in office hours. On the other hand she can be disorganized and misses class often due to her health :(
PEOPLE WHO ARE REGISTERING FOR NEXT SEMESTER: She is great, but she basically abandoned my calc section because she's been missing due to health and all the sections was more than she could chew. She is a great professor, but only when she shows up. If she will even be teaching next sem I recommend choosing a diff professor. Sorry Tighe :(
I have never taken calculus before, and I mostly self studied so far. We didn't get our exam one grades until a new professor took her place. She'd do one question on a subject in a lecture. She showed up late often, and she didn't show up at all a lot. Grumpy. Much of this is due to health, so I do not credit this entirely upon her character.
Extremely unorganized on blackboard and in person. Always takes half the class time to set her ipad up. Redeeming quality: she teaches the subjects decently but makes a lot of mistakes. Exams/Quizzes are pretty simple thanks to the practice provided. I sympathize due to health problems but if you want a prof straightforward, avoid her.
The class she teaches is hard, but she makes it that way to ensure you learn all the material well. She is a good lecturer and even better to learn from one on one. Use the resources she provides wisely and you will suceed in the class with ease. She is very smart and passionate about what she teaches.
If you have her, be SURE to look at the practice quizzes that she posts because she copies and pastes them as the quizzes with different numbers. This is to the point that sometimes the numbers do not make sense. She had test questions that she COULD NOT SOLVE herself during class time so she gave us free points on the tests afterwards. Beware.
don't do it. she will not be at half the lectures then just move onto the exam without giving any semblance of preparation. the class itself is hard enough as is and you would basically be spending a thousand dollars on a class you'll homeschool for.
SHE DELETED BAD REVIEWS SHE'S NOT A 4/5 BEWARE!!!!!!!
Please read this before taking her class, as I am someone who will provide you with all the reasons to not take her on as a teacher. First of all, don't bother showing up to lecture because she probably wont either. Expect to learn all of the material on your own as for when she does show up, she cant figure out how to use her ipad and teach us.
I had this class 3 days a week which meant that 3 days a week I would drive to school, show up to class, and wait for bonny to never show up because she couldn't even email when class was cancelled. Then go to discussion and have a quiz on material we never had class on. When she did show up she was late and confused. This class was a waste of time
Unfortunately, age and frequent illness impacted her teaching. While I don't blame her, if you're aiming to pass or truly learn calculus, I don't recommend her. Often covered a few problems per lecture without clear explanations, making it hard to grasp the material. I'd advise against taking Tighe for Math 151, unless she's recovered by then.
Tighe seems like a great professor and human, but her age affects her ability to teach. Lectures were often slow, and many ended up unproductive with skipped topics. Also, homework due dates were frequently incorrect. I'd recommend skipping the lectures and using The Organic Chemistry Tutor to actually learn the material. Steer clear of her class!
Avoid at all costs. She's nice, but she left in the middle of the semester without warning and we had to get a new professor. Prior to that, she couldn't get through 2 practice problems before class ended b/c she couldn't get her iPad to work. If you do have her though, do the past quizzes and exams that she posts because the concepts are the same.
She's a sweet old lady, but like I said, old. She can't work the projector/ipad. She can barely get through a single problem, and when she does it's often wrong. She's constantly late or just completely misses the lectures, typically with no heads up. It also takes forever to get grades. You can tell she was a great professor in her prime, though.
