His lectures are great and he is so helpful outside the classroom to make you understand the material:)
I found the class to be incredibly confusing and the teacher made me feel really stupid when I tried to seek help outside class. It was also an extremely controlled environment.
nice teacher, very helpful when you ask for help, test and quizes are based on homework and extra problems he assigns but doesnt collect.
dis teacher is great. he's easy to understand and i learned a lot from his class. i think his class is easy to pass.
Cool teacher, do your HW and you'll do good
VERY GOOD TEACHER!! The class was very easy, I love how he teaches. Quiz's and test's are based on a packet that he uses during his lectures, they are very helpful and extremely easy to study off of. He knows what he is doing thats for sure!
Hated math all my life and finally found an instructor that actually makes sense! He's VERY easy to follow since he explains things so well and is one of the few instructors that will genuinly help you no matter how stupid or irrelevent the question. :^)
He is the greatest teacher I have ever had. he cares and that makes the biggest difference for me. I barely passed math before Mr. Chin, and now i am a straight A student in Math. HE IS THE BEST!!!!!
He is the greatest teacher I have had in my college years. He is very knowledgeable and very very helpful. If you have his class, you will learn alot. You will learn the meaning of Math ,and you will know that Math is not a big deal.Take his class. You will enjoy.
brad chin is the man, he explains things as clear as they can be in this class, does plenty of examples so you dont go home and teach yourself from the book, which ive found at sjsu, so enjoy while u can...
Wow. He made math hell for me. He calls on you all the time, and he's just annoying.
Very cool
Omg this class was horrible! He moves extremely fast and he didnt explain things very well. I always got A's in high school and i struggled to pass with him. I dont recommend him as a teacher!
Good teacher; kind and helpful
Taken him for all of my math classes. Would still be taking it if it were not for him. Great teacher, very funny and he has a great time teaching.
this guys got a phd from berkeley so he knows his stuff. tests were pretty hard but i did have like 20 units. overall he's a good guy and you'll learn alot.
Chins the man! By far the best Math teacher Ive had in math I wish he tought at a higher level cause I would be in that class with the quickness
hey goes way to fast to catch up. when you ask him for help you never know whats going to come of it. would never take his class again
This class is tough, but take it with Mr. Chin. His study packets will save you -- he lets you use them on exams. Some say he's strict (point deductions for late homework, grading, etc.), but I think he's fair and impartial. An amazing teacher, especially considering his visual impairment. Oh yeah, he recognizes students' voices really well.
His lectures are very organized and easy to understand. The test requires good understanding of the materials.
Very organized & timely, allows study guides on exams (which is really awesome), is rather strict sometimes but fair. He occasionally goes a little too fast, though he is very helpful if you ask questions (and he encourages people to ask questions, which is great).
i was a C student in math in high school and flunked pre-calculus. but i took mr. chin's statistics class and i got an A. he explains everything very clearly until you understand. that class made me feel smarter than i probably am. thank God for mr. chin.
Class started at a very easy pace, first exam was no problem. After the first exam teacher started putting very difficult questions on exams and students starting dropping out. At the end of class instructor wants to finish early to go on a trip and the materal is flying by. He has never taught this class, that might be the problem.
A very disappointing class. The subject matter was interesting, however, the instructor should not have been teaching it. He spent an inordinate amount of time "hand-holding" a student that clearly didn't meet the prerequisites. I would never take a class with this instructor again.
I passed the class successfully, but I honestly wouldn't take another class with this instructor again. He took too much time with an unprepared student, then FLEW through the material because we had lost so much time explaining fundamentals to this student.
Mr. Chin is a great teacher and knows his stuff. As long as you do the homework and come to class prepared, you'll be all good. Though, I don't recommend taking his afternoon class as it's very loud and hard to concentrate--even he says that it's best to take a morning or evening class.
Took Mr. Chin for the second time! Highly knowledgable and extremeley helpful. The last few weeks were slightly rushed, but the idea is to come to class prepared (or at least have an idea of what's being covered that day), rather than expecting to learn things the day of class. Most people slack; it's not the material itself that's all that hard
He is a wonderfull teacher.
Brad Chin is great teacher and he knows what he is doing!!!
Great teacher!! Went into statistics thinking it was going to be incredibly hard but he made it really easy. I slack off as much as i can get and still have a B when i can easily have an A.
Great teacher. I really dislike math but Mr. Chin made it straight-forward an understandable
An awesome teacher. I am definitely NOT a math person and I took Statistics with him this past spring '08 and he made this class so easy to understand. You must study for the quizes and tests but homework is due on the day of the quiz and test so it is basically a studying session while doing homework at the same time. Hate math and passed with a B
I appreciated Professor Chin's rhetorical question-approach, which engages students and allows for more critical thinking then just mechanical memorization. You can really "get it" afterwards. The caution is that he tends to go on and on in an effort to make sure that the students who shouldn't be in the class "get it" too.
Many hw but it's very helpful for Math. Quizzes or Tests are very simple like everything he taught you in class. Take more times to review hw or quizes or tests if you want to get high grade. Easily to pass as long as you keep track on your works. MUST BE IN CLASS ALL TIME IN MATH CLASS so you will PASS for sure. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO TAKE HIM.
At first I thought this guy was a joke because of his vision. I took a summer class so it was fast paced but he made EVERYTHING as clear as possible. This guy has incredible knowledge which also makes him helpful. He has a good sense of humor though. PS: DON'T TRY AND WHISPER BECAUSE HE WILL HEAR YOU. His hearing is INSANE!
Great class. Mr Chin is excellent at explaining complex mathematical process in simple terms. Do not take if your a slacker. There is a lot of homework. No surprises on tests or quizzes. Just study the worksheets and do the classwork and you'll do great.
Mr. Chin is a really awesome teacher. His lectures are very clear and he makes the effort to be sure everyone understands. My only recommendation to a student taking this class would be to do extra practice problems out of the book because he does not assign enough homework to really study off of
A very caring professor who has time for his students. Extremely clear explanations of the material he covers.Really likeable personality. One of my favorite professors at West Valley College.
This man was born to teach, he's a reasonable teacher who just loves the rules of math and wants to see others understand the material too. Follow the rules because "he's a rule oriented kind of guy".
He is mostly blind, but was a good teacher, I got a C but it was my first time ever taking calc. He gave lots of example sheets in class which was mostly the same as the tests, and lots of homework, but it was helpful. Go to class every day!
I found that mr. Chin made math simple and straight foreword for me. He is very nice and approachable, and if you need help (I didn't), he was always willing to take the extra time to explain the process anew.
Great professor. Exams/quizzes are very similar to practice problems he gives from past quizzes and tests. Write them down, and rework them to do well on exams. Minimal homework for a calc class. Do extra practice problems if needed. Put in the time, and you will do well.
What a great teacher! I've never been so interested in a math course in my life! He thoroughly explains every detail and won't move on unless every single person in the class understands the material he just covered. His teaching methods are both effective and understandable. Just a great teacher overall!
Mr.Chin is a great teacher! He is EXTEMELY clear and VERY helpful. He has terrible vision, but this does not affect his ability to be a wonderful professor in the slightest. Attendance is very important, as is with all math classes. He has helpful reviews and keeps you up-to-date with your grade. Tests are pertinent to class material. Recommend!
great teacher! if you do/understand the classwork and the homework you will succeed.
I had Mr. Chin for Math103. I hated math. He's the reason I am still taking math classes and succeeding. The best math teacher I have ever had.
Mr. Chin is the greatest math teacher I have ever had. He is extremely organized and stays on schedule to a T. I would recommend this class to everyone, whether algebra comes easily to you or you struggle with the concepts.
He is so nice. I learned so much. I did not want to miss his class. Great teacher!!!
Oh my gosh, he is such a great teacher! He knows his stuff. He explains everything clearly! He wont move on until every single one in the class gets it! This is such a hard class but Ive learned so much. Thanks for those valuable lessons, Mr. Chin! Its not a guaranteed A class though, you have to work hard
Mr. Chin is very clear about what he wants and expects from you. He posts online via angel, class notes which he has made up from the textbook and you get easy points for filling them out as class goes along. Study those notes and examples, do the homework (max 15 problems a night), and you'll do great :) Very helpful!
He's a very good teacher and he will explain everything very clearly and preciously. Just remember to study for his test and quiz. there are quite hard if u dont study. I dont recommend taking this class over summer vacation.
He may have poor vision but it doesn't effect his ability to teach, I took his class over the summer(NOT A GOOD IDEA). His tests were hard, don't just study his practice tests, study EVERYTHING
If you want to take it with him. then get ready to be stressed out. This will be super hard for students trying to work and go to school. I barely survived with a C. Plus he challenged the students way too much.
Prof. Chin is my favorite math teacher at West Valley, so far. He has a good pace and is very helpful if you don't understand something. Keep up with his homework assignments and you'll pass no problem!
really helpful. learned a lot from him. kind of goes by slow, but that is easy to deal with.
Best teacher ever hands down!! I recommend him for anyone that has to take math. He helps you with everything if you ever need help. If math is your weak subject, i am 99.9% sure that you will walk out of the class knowing it pretty damn well. Ive had three classes with him, and wish he taught more classes. Best teacher I have ever had
Chin is an amazing instructor. I was a little worried going into calculus for the first time, but Chin made it that much easier. He always makes sure people understand the topic, and if you don't, then ASK QUESTIONS!! He's only there to help, and he's wiling to help no matter what. Do your homework and you should pass!
If you take calculus over the summer, be prepared to work hard. Mr. Chin explains concepts clearly, but keeping up with the homework is essential. Tests are fair but exacting; if you get the right answer for the wrong reason, you'll still miss the question. Mr. Chin is patient with questions & clearly cares about his students. Good guy.
He moves fast through the material but takes time to explain homework. You can not take his word though, he says stuff and does hold up his end. His grading policy is very unfair. Doesn't matter if you are 1% away, he will not give it to you. I wouldn't take this teacher again.
I took his class during the summer after my senior year in HS without taking any math class during senior year and failing calculus my junior year. If you do the homework, review, and really study, you can get an A. Mr. Chin is very detailed in explaining concepts and very helpful. If you put enough work into it, you can pass his class.
Professor Chin is absolutely incredible! He is beyond willing to help his students understand each and every concept to its fullest. Best math prof I've ever had! Has no issues stopping and going as slowly as needed to understand the material. His notes are incredibly helpful!
The best teacher I have ever had. This man takes the time to explain WHY, which I think is important. He teaches the material in a way that speaks to all different kinds of learners. He does everything he can to make sure everyone in the class absorbs as much as possible. 10/10
Brad Chin is a truly great teacher, I know i can ask him for help on anything, I only dropped because his teaching style wasn't quite right for me. Definitely take him!
I really liked Mr.Chin's Class. He takes his time explaining everything to a T. Which is great for students that don't understand math as quickly. Great Teacher. Taking Him again in the Fall for Math106.
Mr. Chin goes out of his way to explain concepts to all kinds of learners. His tests are short and easier than the homework. He grades very easily. All homework is not due until the night before the test which is nice for busy people. I highly recommend Mr. Chin's class to everyone. He is one of the best math teachers I have had in a while.
I got less than I needed. Chin is a great teacher, but his vision is horrible (and he speaks weirdly), so he can not help much only if you are verbally perfect in math-language. He would love to help but so many students look for him... Really much homework, lecture notes, makes you spend your free time at the Math Center. Sleep with book to pass.
Great teacher, really explains material thoroughly. Easy tests, HW wasnt too much. He is very willing to help as long as you put in the work. great teacher overall
Mr. Chin is very nice and definitely knows his math! His grading rubric is clear and as long as you pay attention in class and ask questions , there's no way you can't get an A.
Brad Chin is a good math teacher because he knows what he is doing. The only thing that makes it hard to understand is that he uses too many math term and if you are not familiar with them you it will be hard to understand. There are a lot of homework and his test are hard specially the final.
Overall great teacher that I wish I could take again. Literally just show up, follow the material, do the homework, and try your best on the tests. Don't be afraid to ask questions because he wants all of his students to fully understand the work. He can be pretty funny at times as well which makes the class even better.
Mr. Chin is an amazing teacher. He keeps lectures short and sweet, and is constantly asking to see if there is any confusion with the material... he wants his students to be prepared for the exam. He is always available for extra help and clarification. Homework is all online, due to his partial blindness. He is very clear on his math terminology
Brad Chin is hands down the best math teacher I have EVER had. Walks you through problems, leaves time Inbetween practice problems to allow for questions and for "soaking in" the content. Puts real world stuff into the class, and has a great personality. like a typical math class, work at it and put the time in, and you will get a good grade.
I had Mr. Chin for Math 3A and he was by far the best math teacher I ever had. He's amusing, clearly knows what he's talking about, and handles the class well. The only issue is that he has terrible eyesight and sometimes students will need to correct his placement of papers under the projector. In the end I'd definitely have him again. :)
I can't wait to take Chin again for Calc3A! He is my fav. math teacher at WVC! He really cares about you understanding the curriculum and gives great life-related word problems! He really cares about your grade. Take him! you won't regret! :)
Mr. Chin is the BEST math teacher I've ever had. He made calculus easy to understand, goes through each new concept step by step and really makes sure you understand WHY and HOW you get there. Gives lots of time to ask questions answers them thoroughly. Makes sure that everyone is clear on the concepts before moving on. Can't recommend him enough!
He is the nicest and most patient teacher i've had. He does have some trouble seeing so will stand close to the board but I didn't find it an issue at all. If you participate in class it will be easier to get the material. He goes over every problem step by step so you can understand it. Great Class!
He's very caring and tries to know you personally. His quizzes are the easiest compared to the tests. For his tests, DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING. He's a really tough grader on the tests but not the quizzes in my opinion. His teaching style makes you feel like you are being rushed so if you don't like that, take a 2 hour class instead.
I've token B. Chin for math 106 over the summer. He's really excellent with math. He teaches very well in the class, and he explains everything well. As long as you complete the hw, class work, and prepare for the exams. Then you should be in good shape.
Mr. Chin is pro-student when it comes to math. It's not an easy class, but Mr. Chin strives to make sure you understand. He allows time for the students to ask questions and to discuss. He doesn't just show you how, he makes you think about how to solve them. If you need this class and are serious about math, take Mr. Chin. USE MATH RESOURCE CENTER
Brad, while i'm sure he's doing his best, just doesn't have the eyesight or patience to be a really good teacher. It's often difficult to get his work done, due to bizzare formatting of all of the required documents, and getting help in class is a slow, arduous process involving lots of patience.
I made my worst mistake by not dropping from this class. I am an A student and math is my favorite subject. I got C in this class for many reasons that have to do with the teacher. Mr. Chin is nice however he is not helpful at all. I went and talked to him many times and got no help from him. He doesn't encourage students who ask questions.
He was an amazing caring teacher, he goes over everything in class and often time the homework was harder the test its self. If you needed help he would come over and personally walk you through everything. The in-class worksheets are important so hold on to them. He does take points off if you don't show up to class.
Mr. Chin was the best teacher for math that I ever had. If I had a question he would always answer it. He walked around class asking if anyone needed help showing that he wants to help others. He does give out little quizzes but they're usually based of the lecture and only a question long so very easy. He and his wife are relationship goals.
Do not take math3b w Chin if math is not your strongest suit. Although he is caring and considerate towards his students, the class is very rushed and his eyesight problem leaves messy notes sometimes when he writes on the board which is hard to read. You have to put more effort than usual to pass this class. Self-study and preview the lessons.
good at explaining things
Not an easy class, lots of homework, available for questions, responds to emails and uses proctorio on exams.
He uses MyMathLab for all his exams, quizzes, and the final. He does not review the answers at all, and the grades are submitted right when you finish the test. This means that you don't turn in work, so there is no chance for partial credit. Plus, with MML, the form has to be perfect for the question to be correct, so one misplaced period is wrong
Its possible he would have been better in person but online was really difficult. He used MyMathLab for tests and you did not get to submit your written work, he didn't review the tests before they went into the gradebook meaning there was no partial credit. Very frustrating because MML needs a specific format for correct answers. Quiz every class!
Math is math and I suck at it but Mr. Chin was great. He also has no problem helping students one on one. I failed my final but kept up my homework and participation grade and still got a B.
Going through RMP, I was thinking yeah maybe this professor is a great choice, my fault was to not check when these ratings were given. Sure he might've been very great while doing in person sessions, however I don't think online class is for every professor. Some professors do well some do not. In professor brad's case its the latter.
Mr. Chin seems like a great guy, but he's such a hard professor. We had around 40 quizzes, 2 per class meeting, and they are very long and hard. He doesn't explain concepts but just reads off his screen. Would not take him again.
I had to drop my college apps and an entire class to have enough time for this class. You can't do quiz make-ups even if you are sick or have no way to attend class (40 quizzes btw). NO partial credit on exams or quizzes. Almost dropped but decided I never wanted to do this again so I stayed and barely got a B. If you don't do well online, don't.
Quizzes were fewer than I had expected maybe one or two a month, and quizzes could be taken twice to improve your grade. Tests, were mainly theory with very few work problems. Hw/test/quizzes were submitted via MyMathLab, with test work not being reviewed for partial credit.
Brad is super chill and I would definitely take him again. One of the better math professors I had for math at WVC.
Took this class during the summer term. Beware, it was very tough. However, it was never unfair (like some courses), and the professor was always easy to reach either in class or by email. There were no surprises, you always knew when and what an upcoming test or quiz would cover, homework was quite prevalent, but the due dates were very lenient.
The class itself was just very basic and there wasn't much opportunity for raising your grade at all. My suggestion is take this class if you're bad at math, but still be prepared to learn almost 100% on your own. There were no lectures or even any interaction with this professor. Everything was done via video.
I took Professor's Brad Math Jam for transfer non-credit last winter due to cancelation of Math Jam Stats. The assignments are broken down in two categories for 8 days, excluding weekends: Study Skills Homework and My Open Math Homework. They are not time consuming and the best way to complete these assignment is take advantage of time.
Hate math but I kept up with the homework and did quite well. It is a lot of work, but Mr. Chin is kind and offers support when you need it. He offers good feedback too.
NCMA 111 2024: The typical assignments are broken down in two categories within 8 days: Study Skills Homework and My Open Math Homework. They are not time consuming and it's essential to take advantage of time. And I was preparing for stats at this time.
The class itself was easy, but the professor understood "async" as "you should have every day of the week available for this class"; The professor started the class the Saturday before normal classes started, with half the first module due before Monday. The final is set completely in the weekend. Easy class, questionable student expectations.
Professor Chin's 3A class is challenging, with frequent quizzes and exams that require solid preparation. Though lectures can be dry, using resources like unstuck AI and the free textbook can help navigate the course. Attendance is a must, but the workload may be too much for some.
Lots of homework, but this was a 6 credit class. You can use late passes to extend the deadline of an assignment for up to 2 more days with full credit. Only need to submit work for tests (which there were very few of), not quizzes. Quizzes and tests are only 6-12 questions. Professor also reminds you of due dates. Will take again next semester.
After struggling in math my whole life, I was anxious to take an ASYNC class. But Mr. Chin structures it so clearly, it was easy to follow. Please make sure you have good time management because there was a lot of homework. For online, he has a thread to ask other students for help, a GREAT RESOURCE. You will always be supported in his class! GL!
Easy class, a Lot of homework!!!
4 tests 7.5% of the grade, 1 big final worth 20%. Btw all the problems on the tests and finals are taken directly from the Study Plan problem bank which he opens up completely so there's no surprises really just go through the study plan problems for each chapter and you'll get an A ( tis time consuming though). 24 hr grace period on most things
Straightforward online class. Do your work, it's easy. If you don't, you're gonna fail. Responds to emails fast. Your effort decides your grade.
