I highly recommend taking this class from him. He teaches it once each Winter Sem. Lectures are doctrinally sound, faith-deepening, & wonderful. He doesn't grade you on your scripture reading. There's a couple quizzes/tests, 2 short papers, and a final. Take notes in class and listen, which isn't hard to do because you'll love what he has to say.
Brother Farnsworth is an amazing teacher! He always brought the spirit to class, and he went over all the material that was on the tests. Brother Farnsworth's has been my favorite class at BYU!!

Knows what a religion class should be like. Brings the spirit to class. Not pompous and into making things difficult like other teachers. Hardly any homework at all. Take Rel 122 from him.
He is a great professor. Teaches very clearly. Draws the spirit. 80% of exams is easy. quizzes are given at random which are really easy if you listen. Mission of Jesus Christ Paper is easy. I didn't have much knowledge on BOM prior
Seriously Bro. Farnsworth is the man! There are quizzes at the end of class on what you learn, and they're totally doable, like 100% everytime! He cares a ton about students and what he is teaching. Take book of mormon from him!!
Very easy class, but feels more like a sunday school class. I took an RM section and we only covered very basic scriptures that everyone already knows and have used hundreds of times on their missions. But he does do a good job at bringing the spirit to class.
He is an awesome Prof. His quizes are easy and if you study, exams are easy too. He is really generous about grading.
Great teacher, really good for BoM.
Brother Farnsworth is a congenial, down to earth guy but is a tough grader on the essay questions of the midterms. You'll need to know SPECIFIC facts and principles from the correct section of the Book of Mormon in order to do well on those. They're worth 40% of your test score, so make sure you memorize the major points from each chapter covered
Pro Farnsworth was a great teacher. He always brought the spirit into his class and I loved his stories/experiences. He is a fair grader. He works with students on essays which is good. There are 13 in class quizzes, 3 exams, 1 paper and 30 min mandatory reading per night.
GREAT CLASS, VERY EASY. EXPLAINS THINGS WELL AND IS VERY GENEROUS WITH GRADING
Bro. Farnsworth teaches clearly and teaches just plain doctrine. No weird opinions are taught, and he is careful about that. He seems to realize that Religion classes are not supposed to take up your entire time at BYU. You have to read the Book of Mormon 30 min. a day and write one essay. Tests are simply on what he taught in class.
Easily the best religion class I've taken. It was not difficult but very uplifting and informative. Bro. Farnsworth is an excellent teacher and kept things interesting without going into weird doctrines. Absolutely recommended.
Great teacher
If you want to learn a lot about the scriptures don't take it from him. He doesn't answer questions and you have to read 30 min a day of BOM other scriptures don't count. The class is relatively easy though. He's an easy grader but you don't learn much it's more like an english class where he tests to see if you've read. Pop quizes, 2 tests 1 paper
He's a really, really nice man who wants you to do well and is a super essay grader. However, his tests are hard if you're not good at memorizing the specific wording of each scripture.
Brother Farnsworth is an AMAZING professor! He really wants you to understand and strengthen your testimony in the gospel. The papers he assigns are to help you gain a stronger testimony of Christ. If you attend class and take notes, it is impossible to get below an A. I also have him for Mission Prep. TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE!
I had him for mission prep. He tells amazing stories, I was always on a spiritual high after I left. He's a really smart guy too. Let's just say he says his tests "don't insult your intelligence." Yes, they are that easy. Take mission prep from him.
I enjoyed Professor Farnsworth's class. I learned a lot and he still managed to bring the spirit. However, it was not the greatest class and I would have preferred to have taken BOM from another professor.
Good teacher. Assignments include one essay (not that bad) and reading 30 min daily. He does a good job at keeping class interesting and bringing the spirit. If you listen in class, read the BofM, and take notes you'll pass the tests easily (His tests aren't bad at all when compared with other Rel teachers). I'd take his class again.
I wouldnt get on just to rate a professor but Farnsworth deserves it. I LOVED THIS CLASS! I felt the spirit so much and learned a lot. People who didn't do well in the class probably didn't read their BoM for 30 min every day. His grading system is very fair and the tests are a good challenging. TAKE IT FROM HIM! YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Brother Farnsworth is the MAN! I enjoyed his class so much and I felt the spirit soooo much. If I had to chose any class to do over it would be his because he is the best. Watch out for the second test and believe him when he says it will be tricky. Other than that this class is a breeze
Brother Farnsworth and his class are the best. I took BOM 121 & 122 from him because I just loved his class. Easy to get an A. One easy paper, 12 very easy quizzes. two midterms and the final. Tests are very easy, take good notes and remember the questions on the quizzes and previous tests and you'll be fine. Felt the spirit and learned a ton.
The first test is exceptionally easy but the second one can kick you in the fanny. Make sure to do the readings on blackboard and go to lecture. He gives random quizzes throughout the semester. The class is easy if you just go to it and complete the reading log.
Bro. Farnsworth is excellent. He doesn't go pushing into deep doctrines, but he's got lots of good insights. Do your daily reading, write the very easy paper, and attend class (all the test question come from the verses he talks about it lecture). Great guy, easy class.
He is a great professor. Make sure you go to class, because quizzes are always on the day you don't go.
Cool Dude. The Tests and Assignments weren't terribly difficult and I always felt the spirit during his class. My particular section only had one female so it was a bit of a man fest but whatever.
He's a great guy, but the class is too simple. Take him if you don't want to learn very many new things. Watch out for 2nd exam, harder than the first.
Really great mission president who taught me mission prep. He had really great stories, but my only problem was that it was too easy and since attendance wasn't mandatory, half the class never showed. Great guy though.
Past Mission President in Spain. Really knows the Gospel well. I loved the spirituality of his classes and I did learn a lot. His tests aren't difficult and he does go over everything you need to know for them. Just pay attention.
If you want to memorize the Book of Mormon, then this is the class for you. AKA, a large portion of his tests are finishing random(not common) phrases from the BoM(w/out any kind of study guide). I got an A, but wouldn't recommend it. If you do take it from Farnsworth here is your warning: Boring lectures & have fun studying w/out a study guide!
Bro. Farnsworth is awesome! I loved this class. Easy A if you read and pay attention in class. Best class I took this semester! In exams you have to complete scriptures and know some quotes given by modern prophets in the manual. Great Class!
Bro. Farnsworth is great and really invited the spirit. I wish he would have provided a study guide for the tests. Be sure to pay attention in class and take good notes.
I loved Brother Farnsworth! He's in a branch presidency at the MTC and was a mission president in Spain, so he knows lots about missions and has lots of great examples of missionary work. I felt the spirit every day in class, and the tests were really easy. Take it for sure!
Awesome teacher, loves his students, loves the gospel.
Great guy. Learned a lot of things from him as well as the class. Took an RM class as a freshman, and did just fine. (no I didn't take it to get a boyfriend or anything silly like that)
Dunno why everyone makes such a big deal out of Bott when this guy is here. Felt the spirit every day, he's a funny and cool guy. Knows missionary work better than just about anyone. Tests are RIDICULOUSLY easy (My scores were 96 and 100, didn't study for a second). Easy A, great experience from a great teacher.
Very nice guy. His tests are mostly true/false over the most basic and common sense of things. quizzes are almost a guaranteed 10 out of 10. papers are basically completion grades. easy easy A if you ask me
Great teacher. His class will be a good learning experience and an easy A. The tests are really easy and the rest of the grade are even easier quizes and a paper. Go to class and youll do just fine.
His lessons are very spiritual in inspiring. Be sure to take good notes on what he covers in class because the exams are all from the material he goes through and they can be difficult if you don't study the right stuff. I would take all of my Religion classes from him if I could.
His lectures were interesting but I felt that a lot of the test material was only barely covered. A lot of the test questions were finishing obscure quotes and scriptures that you probably only ever read once. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you really do have to go because there's a quiz (grade savers!) most days. Write down EVERYTHING!
The comments of others were misleading so I'll list my main objections: The tests are a guessing game (he draws from in-class quizzes, but there's no study guide and no guarantee that things will be on the test), many of his questions are asinine (e.g. how many miles is 25 furlongs?) and the overall mood of the class isn't open to open discussion.
Professor Johnson had very interesting lectures, but the tests covered things we did not learn. the tests were hard, and you have to know everything in the BOM and the manual, and then some. He tests you on material we don't always cover in class. Other than the tests the class is easy and enjoyable. If you want an "A" consider another teacher.
I feel like Bro. Farnsworth's class is a nice balance of spiritual and academic. some of his test questions can be obscure, but he covers it in class, and he will usually repeat information that he is putting on the test, so if you pay attention and write it down you should be good. I loved this class and am taking from him again.
I LOVED this class and looked forward to it. Bro Farnsworth is really nice and brought the spirit into every class. I almost brought me to tears a few times because he is just freaking adorable and truly cares about his students, his missionaries, and basically everyone.
I loved this class. The Book of Mormon is an awesome subject to learn about, but Brother Farnsworth taught it very well. There are 10 quizzes at the end of class over what we just discussed, and you have to read for 30 minutes every day but that is your only homework. I learned and reinforced my testimony in the BoM so much!!
Great teacher, simple tests.
Academically, his class is very low-key. But since the point of Mission Prep isn't necessarily academic, that's not the focus. Bro. Farnsworth's focus is helping us become faithful, strong missionaries. He has the Spirit with him in every lecture and he truly cares about his students--he even does his best to learn names. Highly recommended!
Brother Farnsworth is a wonderful Missionary Preparation teacher. He is sweet, kind, easy-going, and spiritual. If nothing else, I know I felt the spirit in his class frequently. Allow we didn't' practice missionary work in a practical sense, we discusses the principles of the gospel which strengthened my testimony. Great gospel teacher!
Lectures were great, and class discussions were really inspiring. However, any good feelings I might have had about this class were crushed by the exams. His tests are VERY nit-picky and are intended to trick you. Exams don't test the principles of the new testament, only the insignificant details. FIND A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS.
Brother Farnsworth was an excellent mission prep teacher. He served his mission in Argentina and was a mission president in Spain. He knows a lot, is easy going, and his class is very comfortable.
The lectures were great and I learned a lot, especially from the discussions. But the tests were ungodly. The tests had so many questions on details that are insignificant and trick questions that are incredibly nit-picky. If you take the class, be aware that the tests are ridiculously difficult and you'll need to spend a lot of time studying.
Great professor and great class. The tests were extremely easy and the only thing you had to do outside of class was read from the Book of Mormon thirty minutes a day. Brother Farnsworth is funny and spiritual and make the class highly enjoyable.
Not too hard of a class, but his tests were very specific. Sometimes quizzes are given at the very end of class, so make sure and pay attention.
Brother Farnsworth is a great teacher. I took a 2:00 class from him and actually looked forward to it! Buy a cheap copy of The Book of Mormon and mark the verses that are read in class and the quotes from the student manual that are read in class. Then study these things and the tests are a cinch. I enjoyed class a lot! Loved Brother Farnsworth!
Loved this class. He never overcomplicated things and learned everyones names. The tests weren't too bad just as long as you studied. Tests had very specific questions and some short answer. There were 10 quizzes, each 10 points. They were either things learned in class or just your opinion. We also had a reading log for 30 mins every day
10 quizzes that are super easy, just pay attention in class. Essay on Jesus Christ was great. Tests are kind of specific and he grades short answer kind of harsh. Read 30 minutes every day. Overall a pretty alright class.
He is such a great teacher! My favorite teacher I've taken at BYU. If you go to class and pay attention for the 50 minutes you will get an A in the class!
Great teacher. Sees Book of Mormon through a very missionary-minded perspective, because he was mission president of Madrid, Spain for 3 years 2 years ago. Final super easy. Felt the spirit in class a lot. You have to read the Book of Mormon 30 min/day, but that's just a good habit anyway.
This was a fairly easy course, but you shouldn't miss any class. A lot of his test information comes directly from the things he says in class, and there are several quizzes that could drop your grade. Come to class and read for 30 minutes everyday and you'll be fine.
Love Brother Farnsworth! Great professor. I learned a lot about the BoM. There are in-class quizzes once a week (not hard at all). Tests can be kinda tough but manageable overall. Have to keep a reading log of the BoM--30 mins a day. Also have to write one 3-page paper a semester. He's helpful and approachable. I would definitely recommend him!
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Extremely spiritual and you'll learn a ton. The first midterm was super easy, second more difficult, and he makes sure you get an A on the final if that is what you are going for. Only one paper, which I got 100 on. Expects you to read everyday. Attendance not mandatory, but quizzes sometimes.
10 random quiz's during the semester with only 1 make-up opportunity so don't miss too much. Great class discussion. But the tests. Holy cow... They are so specific. Questions are there to trick you and about specific things like how long is a furlong? or T/F questions look very true but technically aren't. Just take detailed notes of specifics.
Not theatrical, discusses scripture in light of prophetic commentary and historical background, and invites Sunday-school-like discussion on applications for our lives based on this info. All reading is from the four gospels. One paper. Pop quizzes, usually at end of hour. Take notes. Use "Content" in LearningSuite when studying for a test.
The Prophets and Apostles teach us to receive the most and the highest quality education you can receive possible. Taking a class taught by Brother Farnsworth fulfills this. He is super insightful, loves to teach, has amazing stories, and tells you everything that will be on the test. He doesn't say everything twice so pay VERY close attention.
Really, as long as you mark the scriptures he refers to in class (including in the student manual), you could review those before the tests and get a good grade. However, he's not helpful outside of class. It's difficult to meet with him outside his (very short) office hours, and he's reluctant to meet with you after class at all.
Brother Farnsworth was a good professor and helped strengthen my testimony. However, don't be fooled by the people that tell you the tests are easy. I did pretty bad on the first one, but I took good notes and studied well for the second one and really improved my grade to *almost* an A. It's an enjoyable class overall.
Dr. Farnsworth has a tendency to teach the "doctrine of Farnsworth" and not the Book of Mormon: Part 1. He tests over the manual, though, so make sure you read the chapters and be specific. Questions will consist of "what is a furlong" and "when did Zenos live?" You have to go to class as there are 10 pop quizzes and only one can be made up.
He's a great guy and very nice. However, in class he is very strict and shows no mercy. His tests are very tricky and you literally have to hang on to every word or you'll miss the question. He is not an engaging teacher. Even though this class has a light work load, I will not take another class with this professor.
Not horrible. But not my favorite religion teacher at BYU. Makes an effort to know the students, but tests can be challenging. Hard to study for them because he takes little random facts to use for questions. In class quizzes, but they are cake. Overall not a bad class, but look for someone else.
Brother Farnsworth doesn't allow technology, but it seems to really create a great atmosphere for a religion class. 10 pop-quizzes make attendance near-mandatory. 1 paper that is easily graded. 2 Midterms and a Final that are extremely specific. Pay attention to what he goes over in class and the slides he shares and you should do fine. Great man.
By far the worst professor I've had at BYU so far. He is incredibly preachy and rudely interrupts anyone with a differing opinion. His tests are horrendously written and test your ability to memorize the specific wording of quotes and articles (that are not given on the test), not your knowledge of the material. Don't take a class from him.
Brother Farnsworth is an incredible professor! I felt the spirit so often in his class and was able to grow both intellectually and spiritually. He prepares well for his lectures. Sometimes the test questions can be a little tricky. I would take another class from him in a heartbeat!
He is a great guy but seamed a bit like a pharisee, testing you on the very specific negligible details but greatly missed the mark of deepening testimony and conversion. I took ACC 200, BUS M 241, IS 110, ENG 202 and this class was the only B. I asked for a minute of his time after class and was declined. I will avoid this professor in the future.
Brother Farnsworth is fantastic. He's an excellent teacher that cares about the spiritual and academic growth of his students. His lectures are straightforward, and while he requires effort in order to get a good grade, it helps you better understand the material and gain insight into the scriptures. Wonderful guy!
Pop quizzes throughout the course, mostly to make sure you payed attention to the lecture. If you show up, you'll pass the quizzes. Tests are OK, but I felt they were sometimes too focused on unimportant details. Paper on the Atonement at the end of the course which was very faith-building. Lectures are structured, but adapt to class participation.
Read B of M 30 min/day. Write 2-page paper on the mission of Jesus Christ. In-class quizzes, so pay attention. 2 midterms and a final (only need to know what's covered in class; know the details e.g. years). Very fair grader. Very helpful/approachable. Textbook is free online, but can't use electronics in class. I took the block class (1st term).
Need to come to class because there are 10 pop quizzes throughout the semester, but honestly they're way easy and not a big deal if you pay attention. He emphasizes the stuff you'll be tested on, and gives major hints when it comes to what will be on the midterms and final. I loved his class and would definitely recommend him!
Second class taken by Bro. Farnsworth. He grades papers easy. The only problem was the test contained material that was briefly mentioned in class and not found on any study guide. So, despite getting 100% on every other assignment, I got a 76% on the test. Umm okay?
Way harder than anticipated! Don't go off the grades he posts online because they weren't even close to what you actually receive. Definitely don't ever miss class and take good notes, but still hard tests! Worst Religion class I have ever taken!
Here's the thing - I didn't vibe with the guy. Sure, he's a tough grader, but that's not why I didn't enjoy the class. If you appreciate well-rounded, down-to-earth and idiosyncratic religion teachers like I do then you will be disappointed by his black-and-white logic and egocentric story telling.
Phenomenal teacher. Doesn't require too much but makes you put in the effort for the grade. The way he teaches just made the information stick and seem interesting.
Took the new Book of Mormon 275 class from Brother Farnsworth and it was amazing! He taught everything so clearly and his class was highly enjoyable. As long as you show up to class you'll get an A,and the in-class quizzes that everyone seems to fear are ridiculously easy. Both midterms and the final were a piece of cake as well.
Brother Farnsworth may be the most impactful teacher I've ever had. The class wasn't an easy A, but he asks you to read 30 min a day which is such an easy task. Doing well on the essay is an easy grade booster. Going to class was the highlight due to his incredible teaching and the spirit he brought with him. I recommend him to everyone
Super great guy. He does administer pop quizzes, and you'll do much better on those if you are in class, as they are based off of previous lectures. Uplifting, inspiring lectures.
Brother Farnsworth's class is interesting and uplifting. There are pop quizzes about once a week, but if you pay attention and attend class then they aren't very hard to do well on. He also had us write several 1 page papers on points of doctrine. The class is doctrinally based and sound. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned.
Brother Farnsworth is awesome cares a lot more about his students and their spiritual development than he does about the grade, and even then he is a VERY easy grader. His study guides are identical to his exams, and if you show that you care, you will get 100% on all your papers His classes are very personal and are incredibly spiritual. Easy A
Brother Farnsworth is a great guy. His pop quizzes aren't too hard (except maybe 2 or 3 of them) though there isn't yet a textbook for BOM 275 so tests are pretty much "guess what the professor is thinking" which I personally don't like. Not a terribly difficult class, though the tests are tedious.
I absolutely LOVED Brother Farnsworth. I took Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon from him. He gave amazing lectures; I always left his class feeling spiritually uplifted. He took time to learn all of his students' names. The homework was very do-able - you have to read the Book of Mormon every day and write a couple short papers.
Professor Farnsworth's class is pretty good most of the year. The course load is light and the lectures are bearable. However, you are required to read half an hour every day, without exception, and the tests are very difficult. Make sure to memorize EACH scripture and quote he gives in his lectures.
Bro. Farnsworth is very caring and genuine! His lectures are very spiritual and I learned a lot about the BOM and its doctrines. He assigns a few papers, but he is an easy grader if you follow his criteria. Take good notes on the scriptures and quotes used in-class and you will do well on tests. His quizzes are on things said in class that day.
Alright, let me give you the low down on bad Brad. This guy and I just didn't jive. He's pretty boring, only likes returned missionaries, and his lectures are mediocre at best. I should have dropped but stayed in the class because I thought someone was cute. Big mistake. I wouldn't take it from him though. Nice guy, just wasn't my type of professor
Very boring lectures, incredibly strict grading, disorganized materials.
Brother Farnsworth was honestly my favorite Religion teacher ever! He was super nice, and involved with the students, and he knew how to talk about the Book of Mormon like nobody's business, but not in a Scriptorian type way that would go over our head. We all understood what he was saying, and he always brought the spirit into class. I loved him.
Nice guy, but he's a boring lecturer that doesn't teach you much about the Book of Mormon. Feels like a Jr. High seminary class. However, the tests are graded harshly and he doesn't prepare you well for them. On our last test, 34% of the class got a C and 21% got a D, but he's not curving it. Ridiculous, especially for a religion class.
Brother Farnsworth is awesome! His class isn't too hard either. Really you need to read the Book of Mormon every day and you have to write a few short papers. His tests can be hard but if you review all the quotes and scriptures on the study guide right before the test you should do fine. His lectures are pretty good too.
Bro. Farnsworth is a great teacher if you're looking for deep knowledge of the Book of Mormon. That being said, beware of tests. There's no study guide or TA reviews, and he will only vaguely outline the short answer portion.
He's a genuine man who can bring the spirit into class with great stories. Sometimes he's a bit awkward when trying to relate to students, but you feel love from him. You read the whole Book of Mormon so about 5 pages a day, easy 1 page papers (organized free writes), simple end of class quizzes, and fair tests. Take simple notes and study a bit.
Loved this class and felt like I learned a lot. Bro Farnsworth is really caring, but sometimes I felt like he taught things that he thought are doctrine but aren't necessarily. The tests can be hard but each one gets easier, go over all the quotes/scriptures before. Read the BoM during the whole semester, 10 easy quizzes, few short papers.
He is a great professor. Take him whenever possible. The pop quizzes are at the end of a few classes but he gives you the answers at the beginning of class. If you put forth an effort on the papers, you get full points. Read the Book of Mormon everyday and marking. He's great!!
I thought the texts had too many trick questions that didn't have anything to do with the learning
Eh he's decent, super nice but incredibly boring. Maybe that's just the class though. More work than I expected, but he's so nice you can't really ever get mad
Bro Farnsworth is so kind and caring. He does his best to make class spiritual, but it was just okay. Gives 10 pop quizzes throughout the semester, all which are easy if you pay attention. Tests can be HARD. They're either questions taken from the pop quizzes or totally random difficult questions. Gives chpts that will be heavily tested on though
It was an easy class. He is very passionate about the Book of Mormon. You should go to class because he has random pop quizzes and he talks about things on the test. Sometimes the tests are oddly specific and a little hard but if you pay attention in class and do all the reading, you should be all set.
Brother Farnsworth is a very nice guy. However, this class was like High School Seminary all over again. We read straight out of the manual in class and rarely ever had spiritual discussions. His tests are often based off of his correct answers and not the actual correct answer.
Brother Farnsworth is kind and you can tell he cares. I wish the class was a bit more of a discussion, but he does a great job teaching the material and makes it clear what he expects.
Brother Farnsworth has good lectures. But, to some degree it is almost like a seminary class in terms of how class goes. Unlike a seminary class however, the tests are much harder. You have to memorize quotes and dates of people in the manual and the scriptures (no study guide to help). Attendance is not mandatory, but there are pop quizzes so...
Take BOM from a different professor. Brother Farnsworth is a nice person and an alright teacher but his tests are incredibly specific and often as for the specific content of a single verse without giving any context or ask about things only mentioned in passing in one class.
Easy A, perfect 5/7, totally take BoM rel 121 from him!!!!
Brother Farnsworth is a really nice guy. His tests were a little difficult because he does not give any study guides. Also the tests tend to be really specific. I learned a lot in this class but you have to be willing to put in the time to get a good grade.
Prof Farnsworth teaches lessons and not people. I never felt like I could ask questions or raise concerns. He seems irritated by questions/comments from stds and likes to just share his thoughts. Class is easy though and it's not hard to get an A. If you want an inspirational course don't take this one.
Great lectures, tests are TERRIBLE. There is no study guide and his tests are crazy specific.
I thought this class is easy and I'm taking him again next semester but that being said it's very boring. His voice is monotone. But it's an easy A because his tests are just things he's said in class so write down the verse he's talking about and what he says about it then study those. So class isnt mandatory but it is for an A.
Overall I liked bro Farnsworth. His class is crazy easy to get an A in as long as you show up to class. Tests are easy if you read notes and scriptures beforehand. He has you do quite a few papers, but if you hit the page length you almost always get 100% on them.
I slept almost every day in the class. Not because I wanted to; it was my first semester back from my mission so I was so excited for religion class. We didn't have a single video or visual the whole semester though. Painfully boring, perhaps would be more enjoyable for pre-missionaries but I wouldn't bank on it. Easy class though.
So good!! I took 121 and 122 from him because it's so easy and he tells good stories. its sometimes hard to pay attention in class but he balances it out by having easy quizzes and tests
He gives "pop quizzes" but they are based on exactly what was covered in the lecture. He knows every student by name and is so kind and willing to answer any questions you might have. We use a reading log to get credit for reading the Book of Mormon, but as long as you stay on top of it, it's not bad! The tests are really easy if you study well.
10 easy in-class quizzes (he tells you at the beginning of class that there will be one). One paper that's also a breeze. You have to read a lot and keep a study log, but if you read the BOM every day already it's fine. The first exam and final are easy As, but the second exam is a bit harder, just make sure you read the manual and take class notes
Not bad at all. A few papers to write throughout the semester.
Brother Farnsworth is truly the sweetest man in the entire world. if you want to cry every lecture because of how nice he is then I would recommend this class
literally worst religion class I've ever taken. The test are abnormally difficult and there are no study guides or reviews so you have no idea what is going to be on the test. If you want to get a good grade it takes a lot of time and effort and probably at least a week of studying. I don't have that time for religion, therefore I failed every test
It really isn't a horrible class but the tests are absolutely miserable. His study guides literally list 30 scriptures to memorize and then say study all material taught for the past fourteen class. Only like 5 of the scriptures are on the test and content is hard to access because of how he puts it on learning suite. I did not enjoy most aspects
There is only one paper for this class and it is on the atonement and what that means to you, like 1-2 page paper. Super fun and nice guy, he gives pop quizes so it is important to attend class and take them. Quizes are a little tough but if you pay close attention to what he points out in class and study that then you are way better off!
Brother Farnsworth is an amazing teacher. He cares about everyone in the class and recommends that you see him outside of class for help with tests and how to study for them if you are struggling. If you show up and take even average notes you will be well prepared for the test. His insights were doctrinal and never pure speculation.
If you're going to take his class, BEWARE OF THE TESTS. They're nearly impossible to study for, and the study guide isn't helpful. Very specific and arbitrary ?'s. He grades very generously on papers though, and they were always easy to write. He gives 10 random quizzes and bases a lot of questions on lectures, so go to class and take good notes.
Basic run-down: 5 (about) papers total (easy points), 2 daily study logs, 10 random quizzes, reading the entire BOM (30 min. daily), 2 midterms, & a final. The tests are unnecessarily hard w/ confusing questions that make or break your grade. Other than tests, everything is easy. He knows a lot about the BOM, and is a great person w/ a testimony.
Brother Farnsworth is the best! We wrote one essay on the Atonement of Jesus Christ and if you answer the prompt, you got a 50/50. The lowest score in my class was a 48/50. There are 10 pop quizzes throughout the semester, but if you go to class, they are so easy. Occasionally he'll just ask for your opinion and you get an automatic 10!
The papers and quizzes are easy points, but the tests are a different story. The tests are very specific with ideas and scriptures, but if you take great notes and study well, it's easy. My first test I got a 76% because I didn't know quite what to expect. Last tests I got 96%. Bro. Farnsworth is knowledgeable and approachable during office hours.
Brother Farnsworth is kind but I dreaded his class. Each day was the same and boring. I felt like I was in seminary again. His assignments were easy but tests were sometimes tricky. The class was boring and I did not learn many new things.
For a 2 credit class, Professor Farnsworth takes himself way too seriously. His lectures are mediocre at best, and his humor is weird. The homework assignments and pop quizzes are all pretty easy, but the tests are super specific and difficult to do well on. Seriously, I regret taking this class from him. Take it from literally anyone else.
Bro. Farnsworth is knowledgeable, and he gave kind feedback on my papers, which meant a lot. That being said, he is very specific and nit picky about his expectations and grades, which really detracts from the spirit. Much of what he taught, I'd already learned. His tests were very challenging and specific -- don't assume you know what he'll ask.
I think looking objectively, Brother Farnsworth is probably a good professor. His class just didn't work for me. Maybe it's just because it was my first religion class, I don't know. He's a super sweet guy, but there were many times when someone would ask a question and he would talk around it instead of answering. Too focused on his lesson, maybe?
I really liked Professor Farnsworth and this Book of Mormon class. I learned a lot, he was kind and caring. Read the Book of Mormon, make a list of the verses he talks about in class(!), listen and you will get an A. It takes minimal work to get an A, but you do have to do the work he asks. I agree with other reviews- don't underestimate the tests!
I'm a huge fan of Brother Farnsworth!! One of the best religion professors I have taken from at BYU. I would highly recommend. He does have pop-quizzes, but they are super easy! One paper, and he grades very fairly with clear criteria. His tests were easy if you pay attention in class. 10/10. LOVE THIS GUY
He is a really sweet man and cares for the class, it was just tougher than it needed to be for a religion class. If you served a mission and know the BOM you will do fine in the class. Just make sure you go to class and pay attention to when he puts things on the white bored. That is what you get tested on.
I love Brother Farnsworth! Probably one of the best religion professors at BYU. There are 2 midterms, 10 quizzes, a paper, 2 reading logs, and a final. The class is generally easy if you just come to class and take notes. He basically gives you the answers/topics to the tests a week beforehand so you have time to study them.
Awesome professor, taught me a lot I didn't already know about the Book of Mormon.
Brother Farnsworth is seriously one of the coolest dudes ever, and he truly does want to make sure you get something out of class. He lets you have group discussions and have playful banter with your classmates. He is smart and he will have you write about things you are passionate about, so writing essays isn't a hassle.
He is AMAZING!!! Make sure to take lots of notes. He gives lectures on everything he will test you on. Make sure to attend class and pay attention. He is such a nice and awesome professor.
I literally never wanted to take a religion again after this course. I hated him. Literally was so misogynistic and self-righteous. Take from literally anyone else and it will be easier and not hate the gospel. Heed my warnings people.
Brother Farnsworth is an amazing teacher. Like normally I'm the kinda guy who shows up, sits through seminary/institute/religion watching the clock, but he somehow makes class easy to sit through. He uses very relevant quotes, scriptures, and stories to teach and I honestly enjoyed it. Moderate tests, 1 short paper, and easy quizzes now and then.
The KINDEST man on earth. So understanding and patient. Read the whole Book of Mormon, write a few papers (super easy, trust me), some quizzes, and a few exams. Study for the exams--they're a little harder than you'd expect, but not bad. Listen and participate in lectures and you'll get SO much out of this class!
Brother Farnsworth is very accomplished and is an inspiring person to be around. There are 10 quizzes that are easy to forget but important to get an A, and a total of 5 papers. I personally really enjoyed writing the papers; they don't need to be long at all. Tests, however, are pretty specific and require that you review all class notes.
Brother Farnsworth is clear about what he expects from us in order to get an A. He teaches with the spirit and is clearly passionate about the gospel. I would highly recommend taking this class! It was the best boost to my day.
Brother Farnsworth is so kind and his lessons were spiritual. I felt, though, that his tests were confusing. Despite feeling well prepared I I never did as well as I expected to on them. There were often several answers that seemed correct. Maybe I just should have studied better.
I really enjoyed taking Book of Mormon from Professor Farnsworth. There were a couple easy papers throughout the semester, 2 midterms and a final but as long as you paid attention in class and studied what he told you to before the tests it is an easy and enjoyable class. You also have to read the whole b of m but just stay on schedule and its fine
Professor Farnsworth is the best. He really cares about his students and provides quick and helpful responses to questions. Quizzes are open note and tests are not too difficult as long as you prepare!
Brother Farnsworth is the sweetest man ever. He radiates love and is always smiling. Definite grandpa vibes. Quizzes are open book. Expected to read Book of Mormon in one semester but not hard if you pace yourself. Tests aren't too bad! Perfect for a religion class.
Very spiritual teacher, but focuses too much on the stuff that doesn't really matter in terms of actually having a good understanding of the book of mormon.
