sweet dude...
If you want to have a clear understanding on how to write a paper, you need to take Mr. Guyer. Fair, understanding, and willing work one on one with any student.
This gentelman has provided me with so much insight, that will help me in the upcoming years. He is stern but extremely fair. HE WILL EDUCATE YOU.
He is an amazing professor that knows what hes talking about. Very clear and helpful. Hes interesting and funny. I highly recommend his class
He's the funnest and most helpful teacher I've ever seen. He's clear and no matter what happens, he wont let anyone down. He's always there to help and guide. He knows what he's doing. Great teacher. I recommend everyone to take his class.
Great instructor. I really enjoyed both of his classes in 131 and 132. He cares so much about his students. He loves to teach. He is the best teacher for English. Try his class you will come back for more. I love him.
hes a crazy grader, i've never gotten lower then an A- in any of my english classes and i'm getting a c in his class. very hard grader on the essays and ridiculous quizes every day.
he is a nice instructor he does help people who is special need okay he would take his time out of his busy schedule to sit down with you one on one with you. Mr. Guyer would got into details with you about what you are suppose to do in the class I feel he is like a great mentor when it comes down to taking care of business he wouldn't leave you o
He is a great teacher , Most of his work is politics. You will have to earn your grade Mr. Guyer is not giving grades away. will have to particpate in class. also a hard grader.
Great Teacher , will allow rewrites; quiz everyday. he teaches a student toward perfection ALSO VERY HELPFUL

You better go to class or dont plan on gettin and A
mr guyer is an outstanding professor who has been unfairly represented on this site. disregarding the A i just recieved on my paper, he is a fair, unbiased and passionate teacher. the topic of discussions are relevent to the class and always helpful. he doesnt expect an unreasonable amount of work for his class and thats always nice! -mary darmody
This teacher teaches very well he knows what he's doing and he's very helpful and he's very fair. He's an awesome teacher. he is my favorite teacher if you want a fair and reasonable teacher take his class
seriously one of the worst teachers i have ever had, he obviously writes his own comments on this website because he's no where near a fair grader, don't expect to get an 'A' on any papers it's like he tries to compete with you
mr.guyer was a good teacher very helpful. but hes not a easy grader. kinda picky but veryyyy nice guy!!!
i wish i never signed up for his class, such a bore, attendance is manditory, have to be on time and can't even go to the bathroom! HELLO BRAD GUYER THIS ISN'T HIGHSCHOOL!
I took Mr Guyer for ENG 131 and and also 132, before these two classes i used to hate essays because i would have a hard time on them but with his procedure's it has definitely changed my writing style and my attitude towards essays, thanks Mr Guyer, i would recommend him.
Easy class, but you won't learn anything. His writing workshop is the worst teaching mechanism I've ever seen. He's friendly and will try to build your confidence, but a class with him teaching is a waste of time. If Guyer shows up as the teacher, don't waste your tuition costs on the class. Unless, of course, you don't want to learn anything.
this teacher is very good, he is easy and kinda fun. essays are done together, and the final too!annotation of essays is pretty easy coz you do the first couple of essays together, and usually u get an A.during essays all u have to do is participate, show up, and type everything assigned to get an A.he's very nice and considerate and willing to help
Mr. Guyer is simply the best english teacher, he is so honest to his job, that he finds time to notice each student in the class and knows what difficulties they are facing in the learning process. The class is piece of cake, you just have to attend and participate. Mr. Guyer is also very fair in grading. I do recommand him. Al-Azawi
Ridiculous!!! You have to pay to copy ALL the stories and never even use the book!!!!!
Excellent professor, you honestly earn your grade.
worst teacher i've ever had
VERY HARD GRADER DO NOT TAKE HE WILL TRIP OUT ON THE CLASS IF YOU PARTICPATE IN CLASS
I felt like I was back in high school the entire time I was in this class! I PAY to come here! He made it seem like he was doing us all a favor by teaching us. Writing is subjective! There is no write or wrong way to do it! He clearly doesnt understand that his was is not the ONLY way!
Kind of funny, but, in my opinion, he tends to favor certain students above the rest.
DO NOT TAKE GUYER FOR ENGLISH 131 0R 132 HARD GRADER WANTS EVERY THING HIS WAY
He needs to get a life. No wonder he isn't married. He's super anal about everything! He's a complete jerk who tried to come off as being nice...but really, he just thinks he's right ALL the time.
I took mr. Guyer for both 131 & 132 and i'm so glad i did so, I learned alot n the classes were so helpful to me especially english is my 2nd language. Mr. guyer is basically a teacher who cares and pays attention to all students and be there for them.. I highly recommend him. just be in class n participate.. believe me u'll get ur A as i did :)
Just finished my summer semester of ENG 132. This was my first time taking a class he teaches. I was very pleased. I'm someone who typically is an A-English student. And while I did get my "A" in this class, I WORKED for it. Mr Guyer is going to work you hard. He will push you. PARTICIPATE in class and always show up. You'll do well too.
I had Mr.Guyer for eng.131 and 132. He is probably the best teacher I have ever had. He listens and he explains his lectures well. I received 2 A'S in his class and it was well deserved. Just come to class participate and you should come out with an A or B+ easy!! I recommend anyone taking his class to stick with it.
Mr. Guyer is one of the worse teachers ive ever had. we had assigned seats like we were in high school, he love to put you on the spot and his class is boring, and he have his favorite students in the class and can be very unfair. He's a hard grader honestly his class was the longest and worse 7 weeks ever so glad it's over!!!!!!!!
He does not effectively teach you anything you need to know. He is not understanding if you have to miss his class for a illness. He actually told a student to come to school with the swine flu.
Brad guyer needs to go back to teaching high school, a really bad teacher, your grade focuses more on your attendance than your assignments and quizes. after taking this class i have learned absolutely NOTHING. BRAD GUYER ( since we all know you read this cuz your THAT lame) U SUCK AND I HOPE U GET FIRED
I loved his class in the beginning. I did well in all my essays but he didnt give me the grade that i deserved. he basicly grades based on what he likes and is never fair with grading. I recommend his for those who are planning to take him for 131 and 132 though. Overall knows his stuff but has issues..
Professor Guyer is my favorite professor.. i took him last year for 131 n 132 & i learned alot.. I highly recommand him :)
I recent took Mr Guyers 132 over the summer semester and overall he is a very good teacher. Attendance is must! If you are not ready to take on a heavy load of work or your a person that's going to miss more than 1 day of class DO NOT expect a good grade.
Mr. Guyer isn't tough, you just show up to class every day and he's happy. Do your work and don't slack and you'll get an A on each assignment. The essays and papers can be tricky and he is a strict grader, but he always answers e-mails in the same day. He's dedicated and he just wants you to be the same. You just gotta work for your A.
Mr.Guyer, you are a great teacher no offense but you have to understand just because you can get there on time does not mean all of the students can too. I really tried my best this semester. Believe me most of us students have more important thins to do than worry about essays. Life gets in the way sometimes and you sir seem to not get that.
super hard grader, the whole final was based on a couple of sentences so if you got one word wrong its probably 20 points off. DO NOT TAKE.
I worked way too hard this semester, i did not deserve a low grade, you are not a fair teacher
not too bad, hard grader but yes he is somewhat rude
Really easy. All material is from these days so you know what's going on. Also makes class interesting by providing details and asking for personal opinions
Don't take his class.
I had taken English 131 and now taking English 132 with Mr. Guyer.Thebest English teacher Ihave had at Henry Ford. He helps the students write the essay. We basically do the essays as a class. SHOW UP TO CLASS(that is why you are in college) and PARTICIPATE and you will pass the class with an A or B.
Mr. Guyer is honestly the best English teacher I have ever had. I switched out of my English 132 class to be in his class this semester. Attendence is a must but thats fair. He is also a fair grader, anyone else who says otherwise is just lazy and didn't do their work and now want to complain. I very very highly recommend him.
I TOOK ENG 131- 132 WITH MR. GUYER, HE IS A GREAT PROFESSOR. I LEARNED ALOT IN HIS CLASS. I WISH HE TOUGHT OTHER CLASSES :) YOU WILL NOT REGRET TAKING HIM. JUST MAKE SURE YOUR IN CLASS EVERYDAY.
I had Mr. Guyer for both ENG 131 and 132. If you don't like to show up or do your homework, then you may want to choose another class. But if you want to be challenged and you want to actually understand what you are being taught - He is the professor for you. Mr. Guyer has been my favorite teacher - he kept it interesting and fun to learn. AAA+
One of the best in getting the best out of his students. Mr Guyer is the second best English teacher I have had in life.( First place goes to my Mom).
Nice teacher very particular about attendance overall good class and teacher
very nice person
Excellent professor! I took his 131 course now im taking his 132 course. He's the only one of my professors that I would take again! he rocks !!!
Took his class for ENG 131 last semester and am taking him again for 132 this semester. Best English teacher I've EVER had! As long as you come to class and try your best he will definitely work with you. A very nice guy on top of all that! I would recommend him to anyone.
Mr.Guyer is an outstanding English teacher, and definitely the best one I have ever had. Unlike teachers who just hand out assignments and grades, he works hard to help you actually learn and connect with the material. I took him for ENG 131 and enjoyed it so much, I'm taking him for 132 now. He truly provides a rewarding learning experience!
Took him twice. Once for 131 and again for 132. He's excellent! Take him now. DO NOT HESITATE !!!!
Seriously best English teacher I've ever had. He seems tough at first but Once you get on his good side he makes learning more enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory though.
If you are serious about learning how to write a great paper, then Mr. Guyer is the teacher for you. He is not an easy teacher but he does want to see everyone succeed in his class. Gives the best writing workshops, I learned so much from him and it made Eng 132 much easier for me. Highly recommend his class!
Attendance is a major issue for Mr. Guyer's calss. Don't miss a single day! With that, expect to improve your college writing ability dramatically.
I had him for English 131. He is not a bad teacher, but he is a hard grader. We only had to do three essays (only the last part of the essay was for us to work on our own)and he explained the subjects well, but when it came to grading them, A was not an option. There is not a lot of work to do and you can pass the class easy if that's what you want
Attendance is a must in his class! If you miss somthing he tells you ask a classmate. You write 2-4 pages of notes each day. You type 3 essays. Hes a hard grader. Iv never been absent from his class and i got a D+ which is annoying because now i have to retake the class he could have gave me a C- but overall i wouldnt recommend him to anyone.
Mr. Guyer is one of the best instructors I have ever had. There is a workshop everyday where we work on writing essays. Guyer gives lots of advise on how to make a paper look neat and proffessional. He also has a sense of humor and answers any questions asked. In my class we wrote three essays, and were given clear and helpful guidlines to follow.
Nearly failed due to low attendance. He made it hard for me to continue class due to uncertain rulings on failure because of all my school related absences. You spend all your time in a writing workshop. He does half the essay with you, half by yourself. Very repetitive. You learn one style of writing. Very difficult to get a A, guaranteed.
great professor.. =)..
I enjoy Mr. Guyer's class. I find the daily interactive writing workshop quite helpful. He gives a wonderful formula and a way to annotate notes that make putting an essay together very easy. I recommend taking his class for 131. I'm now taking his 132.
I took Mr. Guyer's class last winter, he is a good teacher and really wants everyone to do well. He likes class participation and is very big on attendance. I say he is bit of a tough grader but will definitely help you out if needed. We had 3 essays to do, which we did most of in class with his help. I would take him again.
I am not very picky when it comes to my professors. I go to school to learn, and as long as I'm being taught something, I won't complain. But this was the WORST class. I didn't learn anything all semester, and his mandatory writing workshops teach us nothing about how to better our writing skills. Attendance is a MUST and he's a tough grader.
Mr. Guyer tends to forget things frequently and is kinda hard to follow. He will randomly call on you in class to answer one of his long drawn out questions and hardly gives you time to think of your answer before moving on to someone else. If you are absent he will ask you the reason and scrutinize your response. His grading is also inconsistent.
Good professor you will learn something from this class it may be rough though, he grades hard and assigns tons of work that doesn't affect your grade but is MANDATORY which is really not cool
Mr. Guyer is the best teacher I have ever had. His class is so simple just do what he requires, go to class and PARTICIPATE. He does writing workshops where the class writes the essays together and makes you write the last part of the essay alone. He his a tough grader so take his suggestions seriously. cares so much about his students. love him.
This professor brings literature to life. I am sad this class is almost over. If given the opportunity, I would take any class this professor taught.
Mr. Guyer's ENG-132 was one of my best college experiences at Henry Ford. He is a solid example of what a college professor should be. He believes in the ability of his students and challenges you to reveal your true potential. Expect to read and write a lot in his class. Show up (on-time) and appreciate what he teaches you. He knows his English!
Mr. Guyer is such a wonderful man, I am so glad to have had the opportunity to take 2 courses with him, and would not hesitate to take any class he teaches. He cares for all his students equally and wants everyone to succeed. He makes himself available for one-on-one assistance if necessary. You will learn a lot if you are eager to learn.
Great teacher! I learned so much from Mr. Guyer. If you show up on time and pay attention, it's easy to pass. I looked forward to class everyday
Our grade was based on 4 essays.. and he would do most of the essay with us and give us the rest of the essay which would be (2-4 paragraphs) which seems easy right.. yeah not so much. Guyer is one of those professors that wants us to write his way which he believes is the "correct way". We are basically reading and then giving action to the quotes
Mr. Guyer is an amazing person first of all, he is there for you and wants to see you succeed. It's true he is a tough grader but he will give you the grade that you deserve. My advice to the people who want to take him, is TAKE HIM and make sure you are there on time and ready to work then it's an easy A :)
Mr. Guyer is one of the best teacher's on campus. He will help you when you need it and offers vey good advice. Just come to class on time, be prepared, and you will do fine! Not an easy A class but he is an A+ teacher. Definitely taking him again next semester!!
looks for specific writing formula, easy to get hang of. dont miss consecutively or youll fall behind. not much work; essays do take time tho, if u want to do well. class participation & discussion is critical. he is very clear of what he wants in papers, also very intelligent in subject. may not like at first, but stick w it & it will get better.
participation is key, papers arent bad to write. will help if you ask & be respectful. the people who dont like or pass are the ones who did poorly themselves and blame on professor. he has a writing formula and if you stick to it youll do great. tip: when writing your paper act like youre him and ur writing the paper. would take again, great class
4 essays and some short story annotations... most of paper is done in class then 2-4 paragraphs done independently. such a great professor & person. gives thorough feedback & grades accurately. u will need a thesaurus. very smart man. would take all English classes with him. show up, do the work, participate & it will be a great semester.
Mr. Guyer's unique way of teaching has improved my writing immensely. He'll teach you the structure of an essay & you must follow his structure or else you won't do well. You will be writing everyday as a class, so make sure you organize everything because he collects it all. I really enjoyed his teaching method although he grades tough.
Mr. Guyer WANTS you to succeed. He is very well spoken and knowledgeable about professional-level writing and aims to pass that along. He has high expectations, because he works as hard as we do, WITH us in a step-by-step methodical process that is repeated every week. You must participate and be open minded to pass. He expects respect! Have some!
Mr. Guyer is not a tough grader, he just wants his students to UNDERSTAND the concept, therefore his grading is HONEST for your own sake. He works with us on workshops, so there are no lectures. He does the notes with us. College isn't easy, but he doesn't make it hard either. If you're willing to put your all, then you will get good grades.
Mr. Guyer is one of the most amazing professors in this college, he is very passionate about his class. He is there for you and wants you to succeed. He truly puts his all in his class. He is not a tough grader, he gives you the grade that you deserve. There is no lecture but a workshop There are no quizzes only a final paper.
Mr. Guyer is a fun and cool teacher to have. All you need to do is listen and participate in class. There are NO TESTS OR LONG LECTURES but you still learn something at the end of his class! I enjoy coming to class because I'm learning to become a better writer. The grading system he has is fair, honest, and gives you feedback in order to improve.
His youth shows with his enthusiasm in the subject. Mr. Guyer's class may throw some students off at the beginning, but that's because new students are not used to the writing style Mr. Guyer is supposed to teach. It will take work and participation to master the style. Mr. Guyer's lectures and workshops definitely help with subject mastery.
This teacher is one of the most helpful teachers Ive taken at hfcc. He truely cares about his students and the work put in. This teacher works with students to prefect a college paper. I truely love this teachers method and would recommend him to all students!
Professor Guyer is an awesome teacher. His teaching methods are great and helped me with his class as well as helped guide me on how to approach other classes I am taking. He pushes his students to be good writers and he likes participation. He is a fun teacher and I'm very happy I took this course with him.
Professor Guyer is a very tough grader, If you think you are good in writing, no you're not. Not recommended, all you do is follow in class and read a lot and get like 2 essays and get a bad grade. It was a horrible summer when I took him.
Mr. Guyer is one of the most kindest professors I have ever had. You are in college and are expected to do your best. He is willing to help you get the grade you want. He provides you great feedback from your essays and wants to see you succeed. Once you leave his class, you are prepared for any essay you write in any class you take.
very nice professor!! Although he is a tough grader, he explains everything very well and is willing to help you understand the material you are struggling with. If you ask for help, he likes to meet with you to explain everything to get the best grade. his homework is very easy and straightforward. Barley had to read for 132. No textbook required
very nice professor!! Although he is a tough grader, he explains everything very well and is willing to help you understand the material you are struggling with. I thought Mr. Guyer was tough, but also fair in his teaching. When you take his class, he expects you to be on time, be courteous and participate in workshop activities. It's a lot of work depending on the semester you take the class. I took his 132 section in the Spring (7-8 week) semester. He will work with you and help you become a better writer
Mr. Guyer is a great professor. I took 132 English for the summer 2016, it was tough. But you have to come to class on time and participate. He expects a certain style of writing. Although he's a tough grader he's very helpful. Mr. Guyer wants his students to succeed.
Mr. Guyer is a very knowledgeable professor. He is witty, fair, tough, honest and 'practices what he preaches'. He teaches more than pen to paper, he prepares you to think and express yourself through your writings. He engages everyone and does not allow distractions in the classroom. Mr. Guyer is serious about helping students achieve greatness.
The biggest mistake of my life was taking a class with him! He is the toughest grader I've ever met in my whole life.
DON'T take his class! Nice subjects but he is a tough grader! I am a 4.0 GPA student that had a problem in this class!
Professor Guyer is truly one of the greatest most caring professors I've ever met. He isn't a tough grader he is fair. He makes the class so simple and basically sets the paper up for you. This class was by far one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. If you can't follow a few simple guidelines good luck taking any college course!
This teacher is the epitome of caring. He does more than teach you how to write. He helps you develop a way of learning that will make all your college courses a lot easier. I would definitely recommend him. Few teachers care for their students; he truly does. His lessons are well thought out and you can tell he puts time in them. Great professor.
Great professor. Participate and he will work with you. He really does care for his students and his lessons are well thought out. I would recommend him.
Mr. Guyer is a great teacher. He actually cares about his student and wants you to become a better writer.
Mr. Guyer is a professor that I will always remember. From the beginning I was already a decent writer, but he turned me into an even better one. He's experienced and genuine about his work. I wouldn't call him super demanding, but he wants to see passion and thought when he reads our writing. He's a Dead Poet's Society kind of teacher.
Mr Guyer is a great teacher and explains thoroughly his expectations. He always reply's to emails and answers questions in class. He is a tough grader but if you do the work and follow instructions you will pass the class.
Personally, I beleive that Professor Guyer is a wonderful English teacher. He goes out of his way to ensure that every student undersatnds the information given in class. I would reccomend anyone to take his class if you desire to truly become a better writter.
Majority of work is done in class collectively with the goal of using that work to complete finalized papers that have independent writing that is strengthened and shaped by material discussed during the classes
Hard topics
Mr. Guyer is a solid professor. He is very clear about what is expected, the style he teaches, and how you can improve your writing. I have always been a weak writer and didn't do particularly well on the first essay, but Professor Guyer gave great feedback and I vastly improved over the course of the next two essays. I will take him in 132.
Mr. Guyer is a wonderful teacher who dedicates his time to make everyone in the class a great writer. Class time is spent crafting essays as a group to learn important writing techniques. Mr. Guyer's feedback is fenominal. He clearly states what you need to improve on in order to earn the grade you want.
Mr. Guyer is a resourceful, professional teacher who goes beyond the call of duty to ensure his students are learning what he shares in class discussions and gaining knowledge. He knows his material and teaches it well. The writing workshops allow you creativity and he sets up high expectations for his students to make sure we challenge ourselves.
Mr. Guyer is a great English Professor,he cares about his students,he want them to learn,if you really wants to learn and you are serious , so take this course.I took it in spring,u have to attend everyday, participate in class ,do all the work he gives and you will be satisfied.I recommend him to every student who want to improve himself in writing
Mr. Guyer is a very passionate professor. His love for writing is apparent in his lectures, and he teaches with a level of enthusiasm. Students are given the opportunity to engage in class discussion, and that makes his block of instructions fun, and entertaining. He has motivated me to focus more on writing, and literature. Great professor.
Honestly, this class was so frustrating when I was in it. But I'm a better writer because of it, and I've used stuff from this class in other subjects as well. He walks you through everything trying to get you to understand it and most of the work is in class. He's a tough grader and wants you to really think deep, so be prepared for that.
In Professor Guyer's class, I am able to see a potential in writing that I haven't seen before. In English 131, I was challenged to think farther beyond the text that was given and give an analysis the proper way that one should. Overall, I feel as if the class is well instructed and is carried along with much care for the students.
As a person who suffers from academic writing anxiety, this professor actually gave me the formula to take away the stress and time consumption of paper-writing. I have already experienced in my other classes. Every paper I've written since I actually got an A come to think of it. Best writing instructor I've had since elementary school.
He's very caring about his students, doesn't give a lot of essays, but is an extremely hard grader. He will not give you an A unless you are extremely good at writing!
homework everyday. we wrote three papers all semester; most was done together in class and 2-3 paragraphs were left for us to write. the final exam was an in-class continuation of a paper individually (3 paragraphs). all of our writing topics involved politics. however, i did become a better writer and was given the formula for a great paper.
I found this class to be challenging, but in a good way. Nevertheless, this class helped me become a better writer. Professor Guyer really stressed the importance of what he called "concept-quote-analysis." We used this technique in the three papers we wrote during the semester. Also, Guyer gives good feedback and cares for his students.
Professor Guyer is by far the best teacher Ive had in a long time. Hes always ready, and hes pretty funny at times. He cares for every student he has and he gives AMAZING feedback. He corrects every detail, which pushes you to perfect your skills. I would most definitely love to have him for ENG 132, I wouldnt want anyone else.
Mr. Guyer is a really good professor, he takes you step by step on what he expects and therefore he is a harsh grader. Also it is very important to make it to EVERY single class. Him not missing a class makes him believe that you are supposed to do the same. No matter what, doctors appointment and what not try to reschedule is his thing.
cool guy
Mr. Guyer is the best English teacher for learning how to summerize poems or articals. If you going to be a report for books... take this course with Mr. Guyer. He gives you lots of chances to understand the material its up to you to read it. He calls for ideas in the classroom to give you confidence to right the summery your self. He is the best!
There are three main essays we wrote during the semester. All of which we incorporated what Mr. Guyer taught us which I really appreciated. He taught us concept quote analysis in our writing. I always enjoyed writing and thought I did well, he pushed me more to become a better writer and I appreciate it. I really enjoyed his class.
This class is not difficult if you pay attention and turn in all of the assignments by the deadlines. Very strict on attendance. A lot of reading and heavy lectures. Would not take again.
This professor always finds some amazing short stories and poems. He uses these to teach us about the skills of writing and how to take notes. He cares about every student and tries to help them move forward. Mr. Guyer dedicates his time to assist students who need help. If you are looking for a course with international readings, take this class.
Do your self a favor DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
Mr. Guyer is a great professor and makes 100% effort to actually teach the class. he is dedicated to help you understand everything there is to know about English. he gives work everyday but nothing hard. attendance is very important. its important for the work to be turned in on time with effort. credit depends on truancy and attendance. BE THERE!
If English is not your favorite subject I definitely reccomend Mr. Guyer, Attendance is really importnant but the class flys by and I never found myself bored. All assignments were very easy and routine. The best English class I have taken so far at Hfc, as long as you give an effort you will do great in this class.
I took Guyer in the Winter 2018 semester, and although I was annoyed at the time, I really learned a ton. I didn't realize it at the time, but my writing has really improved tremendously. Now that I'm in 132, I find myself thinking back to my time in this class for reference. I have been getting 100s thanks to this class!! You will learn so much
If you get overwhelmed with writing papers like I do, this is a good class for you. Professor Guyer walks you through the process of writing an APA style paper step by step. He always makes time to help his students and answer questions. If you pay attention and do the homework, it is easy to get an A. Plus, you don't have to buy a book!
caring professor but he is very strict on formatting and errors you make on the writing workshop, students did not show the grade they received because i highly doubt he gives a lot of A's if you think a B is a good grade take him if you want an A i do not recommend him. He keeps u in class even after it ends but gets very offended when your late
Mr. Guyer was an amazing professor. Attendance is mandatory, don't skip a class or you'll miss a lot of work and will be lost. Walks through the assignments while in class. He thoroughly answers any questions you have and guides you on how to correctly do assignments and essays. Take this professor if you want to improve in writing and are serious
He honestly is a great professor!
too much omg, never taking him again. don't hurt yourself.
If you are a student who doesn't have a job and can dedicate much time and effort then he is a good teacher. If you have multiple priorities and don't plan on having a career in literature then I suggest you stay far away from this man. He is a very strict grader at times can be stubborn and if you miss class he will fail you.
Mr. Guyer is a great teacher. I loved how we walked through everything in great detail during class. He has a strict policy which is respectable but DO NOT be late to class. He takes that very seriously. He loves students who participate in class as well. I was given many second chances for homework because I participated.
Great instructor. You will become a better writer at the end of this class. Attendance is imperative. Missing class and constant lateness will harm your grade. Overall he has opened doors within myself that I never though was possible.
Mr. Guyer is a good teacher in over all, but the only thing that I didnt like is that he count 80% of your grade just on three essays he gives you in class. Also, I really liked the annotation he gave us which really helped me improve my annotations and get better and faster on it.
Mr. Guyer is an amazing professor I have learned so much from him. I took him twice in Eng 131 and 132, and if I get a chance to take him again I will. He thoroughly answers any questions you have and show you the correct way to do the assignments and the essays. I recommend taking this professor if you want to be a better writer.
Everything expected in this class is explained very clear and what is required from you is simple. You need to show up to class though, your participation matters. Mr. Guyer expects you to push yourself, he is a great professor and if you show up ready to participate you will do great!
You need to work very hard!!!
No textbook!!!! Prof. Guyer is one of the best teachers but you have to show up and you have to do your work! Eng 131 is mostly teaching MLA format using writing workshop. We wrote 3 papers. He stuck to his syllabus and the final was writing a concluding paragraph. I HIGHLY recommend Mr Guyer if you are serious about school!
Professor Guyer is nice and caring. He is a good teacher, but he is tough grader and expect you to write very well! Many annotation, writing, and typing papers. You can learn a lot from him if his class is the only one you are taking because his class needs a lot of attention.
Mr. Guyer takes you step by step and is very specific on what he wants from his students, therefore he is a bit of a tough grader, but he gives good feedback and does daily workshops on writing your essays which helps.
You have to pay a lot of attention to detail. He can be a pretty hard grader but if your're trying your best and he sees it then you will be okay.
If there was an award for the worst teacher I think Mr. Guyer would get it. I went into his class ready to write papers, and so far I haven't written a single thing of my own. He makes us copy his papers through his absolutely atrocious handwriting, and takes off points for even the most minor error. His grading system is awful. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Highly recommend taking ENG131 with Professor Guyer. The assignments for this course are well structured and provide clear instructions. Professor Guyer's grading is very prompt and includes helpful feedback. This class has strengthened my attention to detail and writing skills. Overall, a very straightforward course if you put in the effort.
Although I was initially nervous for this class as it's an online class, Professor Guyer has really helped ease my worries. I was afraid that i'd have to teach myself the course material, but he's done an amazing job of explaining everything and guiding us through the material. He has also been extremely understanding and caring through this time.
Mr. Guyer is the best writing teacher I have had yet. He is a dedicated and inspirational writer and you can see this while taking his class. While it may be difficult at times, his class pushes you to become a better writer. Mr. Guyer takes his time in grading and looking through his student's work, and provides excellent feedback.
Professor Guyer has been a great help this semester. Although I was nervous having his class online, his constant explanations and feedback truly help you understand the course and the material. The set up of his class online allows you to pay attention to details and to learn to be attentive to structure. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Brad Guyer gets the Worst Award Teacher. He doesn't care about his students and will make you fail. If you think you are going to write papers in his class, no you don't. Unclear about everything. He doesn't know how to explain assignments, email, etc. My grandma teaches better than him. Save yourself money and time by not taking this teacher.
Hes a good professor who cares about the effort you put in. Always gives feedback and grades in a reasonable time. Keeps a positive outlook and is willing to go the extra mile even when youre struggling!
This class was so confusing and hard because he didnt meets with us or teach us clearly. I will not take him again.
Professor Guyer is one of the best English teachers Ive ever had. His teaching style fit my learning style. It is more dependent work than writing your own essays. Hes always willing to help out with any questions you have and answers emails in a timely manner. Very patient and understanding on any mistakes you may have. I recommend him!
I took Prof Guyer in 131 and this is my second semester with him the structure of this class is the same as last semester he was very patient with me as I repetitively made mistakes he led me through fixing the problem and I was surprised that he wasnt annoyed with me as other profs wouldve been take his class if you want one on one help!!
this class wasn't too bad, just do the assignments PERFECTLY so you don't lose small points and email him if u have questions. Be safe then sorry. He's a good professor hell help u out if u need it just ask, and he also had pre-semester assignments. He might seem mean in the beginning of the semester, but he genuinely wants the best for his student
A meticulous grader but a great professor. Puts a lot of effort in his course and always answers emails promptly. Pay close attention to directions and you should be fine. Overall, he helps improve clarity in writing and enhances vocabulary.
Professor Guyer held a very organized and thoughtful section. You will learn many things from this class. As long as you put in your best effort, ask questions if you are not certain of something, and pay close attention to detail, you will enjoy the class. He was always willing to help over email and genuinely wanted to assist you in learning!
Professor Guyer was very understanding and always helped with your work if needed. If you need help with anything do not hesitate to ask because he will help you. Overall I enjoyed this class because I learned many new things in the English literature!
Professor Guyer is a tough English Professor who cares for the learning of his students. His course was well structured and those who where under his educational leadership learned a great deal. I was skeptical when choosing my summer class, but I made the best choice.
Instructions were fairly clear throughout the semester. If you did not complete an assignment following the instructions your grade would be affected by it, but he always left a comment explaining what you did wrong which was extremely helpful. Overall a really simple and straightforward course and a great professor. Would definitely take again. :)
He is by far one of the best professors I have taken at Henry Ford. He truly cares about his students learning the material and gives great feedback. I never hesitated to email him if I needed help and he always answers emails swiftly. He explains assignments in great detail, do the work and you will do just fine! I highly recommend this professor!
Very Detail oriented, and a tough grader. Overall fair
Pro? You copy his work and get full points. Con? He is a VERY tough grader Pro? All of his assignments are easy. Con? They're worth NOTHING. If you get A plus on every assignment but get a B on the essay, your grade is a B. Pro? He helps you if you email him. Con? He answers his emails with rhetorical questions and never gives answers. You decide.
Really great Professor! He answers his emails quickly and is ready to help! Just pay attention to his instructions and youll do fine! Would definitely take him again!
Learned a lot through this class, including paragraph structure. He responds to emails quick and has helped me a lot. Just make sure you follow instructions for assignments carefully!
Professor Guyer is a amazing instructor. I sent so many email to ask the questions about the online assignments, he always explain to me right away, and spend endless his own time to leading me into the points. I really appreciate it. As long as you make your mind into this study, you will be surprised yourself.
I am currently taking Mr. Guyer for English 132. At first, I thought he was a bit picky on his assignments and attendance. However, I learned from his feedback that he cares about his students and sees their potential. If you participate consistently, you will go a long way. Therefore, I suggest taking Mr. Guyer for any future English classes.
Professor Guyer is a great instructor. He wants you to pay close attention to the paragraph structure of assignments. Participation, reading assignment directions closely, and showing up on time are all very important for this class.
Mr. Guyer is an old school professor, you have to be ready for strict treatment at class. Although, You learn a lot with him and all the lectures he puts are really fun to read.
Never in my college career have I met a professor who has cared more about their students than professor Guyer. He is an absolutely fantastic teacher and if you put in just a bit of effort you will pass his class.

Mr. Guyer is the best!! He's so passionate about what he teaches and he truly does care about each and one of his students. He makes sure that the whole class is on the same page leaving no one behind. He asks for feedback from from his students to improve his lectures. I wouldn't be double spacing after my end marks if it wasn't for Mr. Guyer!
Professor Guyer cares for his student. If you attend class every day on time and complete all the assignments you should pass. He doesn't let anything slide so any small mistakes will count. We did all the work together as a class. I learned a lot in his class but felt that we needed to do more independat work. I would recommend him.
Professor Guyer is an amazing professor. I recommend taking him 100%. He cares about you. He cares about actually teaching. I looked forward to going to his class.
He was very caring and wants you to succeed. It is expected to come to class a little early to make corrections and receive feedback on class work, as long as you are willing to put in effort you will excel in his class.
Professor Guyer's course was one of the best I've taken. Very easy and taught me so much about APA format. He teaches us to sketch out the idea of the paper then proceeds to write the paragraphs on the board. Overall, all you have to do is copy down the board the correct way. However attendance is 100% REQUIRED. Kind, professional, cares a lot.
He is a great professor who is willing to work with students individually. Very patient, he appreciates student participation and being early or on time the most.
Professor Guyer is the best and most passionate Professor I have ever had. He is a very inspirational man that that I have learned a lot from. What I like the most about him is that he is so passionate about what he teaches, you can tell from the way he reacts while explaining a poem or a story. Also, he will reply to your questions swiftly when you email him before bedtime.

He is very good at explaining and always makes sure that everyone understands the assignments. Also, he provides detailed and clear feedback, which helps in future assignments.
He really is a great professor. If you attend all of his classes and you're on time you'll definitely pass his class. He's very passionate about teaching and very funny on top of that. He'll try his best to help you if you need it and he also stays after class to help people out.
Professor Guyer is the most passionate instructor I have ever had. He wants everyone to be successful and he does what ever he can to make sure everyone learns and succeeds. He also opens the class very early and lets you stay after class so you could get caught up or ask any questions.
1. You learn nothing 2. Copy and paste everything 3. Toughest grader ever 4. Lose points if you're late 5. Says he'll excuse absences with appropriate documentation but wont 6. Runs class and treats you like an 8 year old 7. Asks students to be 10 minutes EARLY to class 8. Incapable of understanding people have to work I wish I could write more
Mr. Guyer is one of the most passionate and dedicated instructors I've ever had. Cares about his students and will go out of his way to help. All graded material is conducted together during lectures. Attendance is mandatory. Easy A if you show up ON time and do the work. If you have attendance issues or skip lectures, it is not the class for you.
Mr. Guyer is charismatic and kind. He grades fair and makes sure you understand what he is teaching you. He is understanding and funny. If you come to class on time and type perfectly than you'll pass. He is also very meticulous.
Mr. Guyer is a very genuine professor. As long as you show up to class everyday and are on time you will be able to get an A in his class. Being attentive in his class is very easy to follow along and he is very enthusiastic about teaching. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to take ENG-131 at HFC.
Professor Guyer is passionate and understanding. Attend class, do the work, and you'll ace this course. unstuck AI was a game-changer for my essay prep - highly recommend checking it out alongside the free course materials.
This professor evenly divides the semester's total grade to be equal parts for attendance, essays, homework tests and coursework. It is a great class for students who are committed to completing all assigned work and want to memorize MLA formatting. The professor is extremely helpful in teaching how to write a good essay. He is a caring professor.

Professor Guyer is a very good professor for ENG-132. His class is heavy on participation, but the work is easy and simple. I would definitely take a class with this professor again.
Professor Guyer. is very direct and clear on the expectations of his course. His guidance and methodology used in writing prepares students in writing college level essays for future courses. I enjoyed the variations of short stories included in the curriculum that had multiple facets
Awesome professor! Very caring and considerate
He marks you down for the SIMPLEST mistakes. You do one space instead of 2, you get marked down. Excepts too much from students and everything has to be PERFECT. I have never gotten a 100% in this class even though I always do in other classes. He is very nice tho, but too strict.
This course was a great experience. Yes, you will have many assignments, but they're all given to help you improve your writing skills. Professor Guyer has high expectations, so you need to keep up with the work and put in the effort to succeed. If you're prepared to work hard, you'll learn a lot in this class and your efforts will be recognized!
His class is very difficult, if you're hardworking and have a lot of patience, take him. He is really nice as a person but personally, I would never take this class again lol.
Mr. Guyer truly taught a lot about clarity, structure, and conciseness. The assignments require effort and actual reading so be prepared and if you need help even on essays, he'll give it to you with a supportive demeanor. If you're willing to put in the work, your efforts will be recognized without a doubt.
Best professor ever! was very caring of all of us if you need help with anything he'll gladly stay with you after class and help you. You do have to show up but i actually liked his lectures he's funny n sassy. Some classmates didn't like him but that's because they didn't show up. As long as you show up and do the work you'll get a good grade.
Mr. Guyer is outstanding. His class is challenging, but every lesson pushes students to grow and excel. He is eloquent, engaging, and genuinely cares about his students' success. I'm grateful to have learned from him.
Mr. Guyer is definitely one of the best professors I've had. Very intelligent, caring, and articulate, he walks everyone through on what to do in class and will stay after class to help you with anything. If you just show up to every class and do the small amount of work he gives out to do at home then you will easily get a good grade.
Professor Guyer is great. In his class, he teaches us how to read, annotate, and analyze classic and iconic articles and short stories. He is very patient and kind, always explains everything clearly before expecting us to handle these new things on our own. he's also inspiring, constantly encouraging us to think and write.

Professor Guyer really cares about what he teaches. He is passionate about the stories he assigns and he wants you to be too. Attendance is needed, missing one class could cause you to fall massively behind. He does most of the work in class so barely any homework. Participation is highly valued in his class. He loves to joke with his students.
This was my first semester at HFC and I was awfully nervous coming into this school/class not knowing what to expect, but professor Guyer has been awesome and extremely helpful. I have learned so many new things throughout this semester in his class to help me become a better writer and student. I highly recommend taking his classes.
This course wasn't hard thanks to professor Guyer. He puts great effort into making sure all his students understand the material and is overall caring. In his class you annotate and write essays together all while learning how to develop a unique writing style. If you put in the effort and go to all of his lectures you'll have no problem passing
Professor Guyer really cares about what he teaches and is very passionate about about the stories he assigns and helps you understand everything. He does most of the work in class and assigns some homework, not a lot. Participation is importante. Overall good professor you just have to follow directions.
Professor Guyer gives very clear instructions on how to do assignments. There isn't much work outside of class (usually a work cited and a short story to answer questions on online), and it's easy to get almost full marks if you're attentive and participate. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Professor Guyer is a caring individual who genuinely wishes for his students to succeed. In all honesty, I struggled a bit at the beginning of the semester due to his extremely specific grading criteria. However, as the semester continued, I truly learned to improve my writing. If you are willing to trust the process, consider taking this course.
The process is fairly simple. You do all the work in class, and you are assisted through the whole thing, almost every paragraph. Only had to do annotations and citations out of class. Active on email, and if you miss a day, will let you to come in another class for paragraphs. You can't get paragraphs from someone else. Pretty chill class 9/10.
Very good in class seminars, as well as nice sense of humor. Gets whole class involved and helps students understand why information is typed the way it is. Attendance and paying attention is a core component of this class and he makes it easy for students to participate.
Professor Guyer was a very good teacher all semester. He clearly explained what he wanted done and his instructions were easy to follow. The workload wasn't too heavy, just a few assignments and weekly stories that were actually entertaining to read. Overall a great experience in his class, I'd recommend him to anyone looking for a good semester.
great teacher gave us enough time to give in our work always made sure we understood the work and always made sure we knew where to give it in and what we needed to do .
He responds to emails quickly (within the same day or morning of next). He takes participation seriously, not in the sense of an actually grade, but he wants your full attention and respect as he teaches. If you can't understand his cursive handwriting, he's quick to tell you what it says. ANNOTATE AND TAKE NOTES on stories!>(Extra Credit for some)
