PURE lecture. Tons and tons of notes. Semi-linear. The teacher seems to get frusterated AT the students, and thus may get an attitude. Used a plain old transparency everyday when I was there, and was EXTREMELY boring. Blue book tests, hard grader.

he is so horrifically boring it's ridiculous. he absolutely adores the sound of his own voice, and jumps at any chance to use it prolifically, and prolifically uselessly. basically, drives you nuts with boredom. but there are worse qualities in a teacher.

No papers, easy quizes, pretty good lectures, and a fairly nice guy. Only problem is the tests, they are greaded way to hard for an essay test. If you are good at that sort of thing, take him, if not, be warned.

I dont know why everyone is so down on Hale. He is a challenging teacher, but that does not make him mean or even dry. He makes you actually THINK, maybe that is why people are having issues with him. He is also a great guy to talk to outside of class.

He has a dry sort of humor but its kind of funny. His tests and quizes are kind of hard and there's too much group crap. He is pretty boring too with his lectures but i guess there isnt any other way of teaching us.

I hated this class. IT SUCKS BIG TIME. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM. you spend just as much time in class as you do watching some really dumb and stupid, bore you out of your wits movie's with this guy Eugen Webber. also alot of group projects.

Tough and Challenging, but one of my favorite profs. He simplifies a rather difficult subject, trying to learn a few millenia of history in 55 minutes. I agree with everyone that Eugene Weber is a miserable hour and a half one or two times a week.

This man frustrates me. He's seriously out to screw kids over. He leaves it up to us to learn and interpret the material, he barely lectures, and he's really vague about what he wants but gives out bad grades anyway. He's also boring.

Nice guy, classes can be a little boring but that's school for ya. Quizes are a piece of cake (matching) if you just take a little time to study. Tests can be taxing; there is a lot to study. Good teacher, not the best, but good.

Hale is a great teacher. He has a passion for what he does and makes everything easier. He is one of the best profs that i have had. Tests are essays and they're easy as long as u know key terms. Quizes are really easy.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT take World Civ from Brad Hale, you will have a much better experience with Brian Plummer...trust me, I've taken both and Plummer is way better all around.

Hale was by far one of the best profs I had during my four years at APU. I highly recommend any of his upper division classes- Africa/1968/senior seminar- or whatever else he might be teaching.

Great prof. Definately knows what he's talking about and is willing to help you out on anything. Take Hale if you can for class and don't be afraid to remind him that Boston won the world series.

Brad Hale is a challenging but very good teacher. He puts time, effort and energy into his lectures and his class. He's a super chill guy too, kinda dorky but cool. By no means is he easy but i learned a ton, I got an A but worked my butt off for it, his tests are all essay and difficult study hard.

he's a nice guy, but not a very good teacher. he's all over the place, one class period we covered the entire french revolution and the next we were on to industrialization. it was hard to really understand each period because we went so fast and covered way to much per class. not hard, frustrating

i had him for freshman year english and he helped me a lot. At times his class was a bit unorganized and the material was a bit "out there" but he is a well educated teacher. He likes it when people speak up in class and make sure to ask him for help if you are having a hard time.

He's pretty cool, funny, a good teacher. His essay exams are hard and he grades pretty tough, but still fair. Practically no homework and you don't really need to do the reading as far as quizes go. Just study hard for the exams.

He is very smart at his subject, but can be confusing at times for those not gifted in history. There is a lot of reading, but I definately got my money's worth and learned a lot.

He had an amazing knowledge of history, but his lectures were too short too fit in all the information he wanted to impart. Every week he had quizes that were supposed to make up a large portion of the grade...unfortunately 80% of the class was failing those quizes so he made them worth a much smaller % of the overall grade :-( I was getting an A until then. He grades his essay exams harder than any English Prof. I ever had.

I have him for European History from 1789 to 1914. Hale is awesome! He's funny and he is pretty easy to get along with. His class is difficult somewhat, but it is an upper division course. There is a lot of readying. He is pretty easy to understand and gives great clarification. Overall, he's an amazing and intellectual professor.

He is a funny guy but his class is EXTRMELY hard. He bases most of your grade on 3 in-class essays! You must memorize tons of dates and people. Only take his class if you are majoring in this subject. Not worth the stress!

I don't doubt that Hale's intentions are good, but the class is pretty dry and very artificial. He has us doing assignments that even he adminds we will never have to do in the real world. As if research and writing weren't boring enough, he chose our research topic: interwar France. I don't reccomend this class. His office hours are good though!

Hale is a great prof, extremely challenging but very engaging. More than willing to help and very available to students. If I had it to do over I would have taken a class from him a whole lot earlier. You would be missing a lot to not take a class from him, he has so much knowledge to share. I can't lie though, he does grade fairly hard.

Expects you to know everything he says. I hate the way how he grades/teaches. Very unclear. Class is almost always a lecture. Get ready to take a lot of notes. Um... Yeah, and he thinks he's funny, but he's not, and it's distraccting. He doesn't yield to student's personal needs.

Hale is an engaging teacher who somehow got the impression that college is supposed to be challenging. His upper division classes are the best I've seen and his intro classes are nothing to scoff at. Just don't expect to skate through and still pull an A. Or a B, for that matter.

Just because you don't want to put the effort into the class or take the time to ask questions, doesn't mean he is a bad professor. Dr. Hale is the most approachable teacher I have come into contact with, and yes he's hard, but he will help you figure everything out, and his methods help improve the memory. Take him if your willing to learn.

Class is fine,except no laptops. The quizs aren't that bad. The tests are pretty bad. 1 essay question for the whole exam. My lvl 300 classes aren't that bad. Also he grades them very hard. For 1 exam I write for the whole class period. He says good, expand more and give me a mediocre grade. My lvl 400 classes are easier than this one.

good teacher, make sure you have/read all the text he assigns (trust me, you will be lost if you dont) he grades hard, just says expand and gives you a grade you dont feel you deserve. no computers in class, not even for notes.. 2 essays, final consists of 3 short papers. good luck. go to class. he takes off points if you dont.

The only good thing about this class is that there are onlyn 2 exams (including the final) and they are both take-home. His lectures aren't that bad and there is a lot of group work, which can be fun. There is a ridiculous amount of reading EVERY class though! He floats like a butterfly, he stings like a bee, he's not only the greatest, he's the double greatest--he knocks 'em out and he picks the round. Take his classes and tremble.

Dr. Hale is amazing! I love his jokes and the way he engages the class. Lectures the whole class, so the tests are pretty hard because it covers a lot. Study and work hard for the tests and you will be fine. Quizzes every friday and they are matching =)

Hale was seriously impossible. His lectures were so boring, his quizes.. easy, but the exam was rediculous. One essay question for the whole thing, and he grades rediculously. avoid this class if you can, unless you like a rediculous challenge.

Smart professor that knows his material but the classes are not meant to be easy. He really tests your ability to comprehend the reading. Which reminds me, there is SO MUCH reading in this class. We had to read 6 or 7, 250 pg. novels. There is also a presentation and the tests are 2 take home tests. He grades very critical but i still got a B.

Unclear! When you get your exams back do not expect any clarification whatsoever. He does not list any positive comments and his lectures are boring. He tries to relax and make jokes, but they are very corny. He does know his history, but he is such a horrible Devil's Advocate. Don't expect for him to cut you any slack or take your side.

Brad Hale is a cool dude. He kept things interesting but he doesnt give normal tests, only 3 WRITTEN exams. I studied hard for all of them and my highest grade was a C. Good luck... hes fun but HARD!

Dr. Hale is the best! He is very challenging, asks a lot of questions, and pushes you to think, rather than just passively receive the information. He incorporates a lot of different media for class such as film clips, music clips, and artwork, which makes class interesting. If you are into history, I highly recommend this course and Dr. Hale!

Dr. Hale really knows his stuff, and he's kind of funny too. But the class is very hard, especially if you're not naturally a history person. The essay tests were extremely tough. However, I will say that he is big on connecting different parts of history to see the bigger picture, which is cool when you see it all coming together.

Super great professor. Class is tough, he expects a lot from you, but it's doable. He makes lectures fun and exciting and really draws you in whether you're a history person or not. I loved his class and plan on taking another with him.

He's is a really nice guy but his class is way too hard. The quizzes are doable but his tests are impossible if you are not a naturally born history person. I was a 4.0 student in high school and ended up with a C in the class (my only C). Avoid his class if possible but if you must take his class DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES.

This class was definitely hard, but you have to know how to take notes according to his powerpoints. He is a tough grader for the tests, but ultimately it helps your writing. USE HIS OFFICE HOURS! He's very helpful. Overall, I loved having him as a professor!

Do not take him. Do EVERYTHING you can to avoid his World Civ gen ed class. His expectations are absolutely ridiculous, and his tests are impossible. I've been in a number of times to his office hours and he is NOT helpful. If its between not having enough credits, and taking his class, take the less credits. Avoid him for a gen ed class.

Honestly the course is challenging but I love this professor. If you go to class and do most of the reading than you should be fine. If you go to his office hours he is very helpful he will answer questions and even take the time to help u grasp the content wether it's with helping link my flash cards together with the time period and terms or just plain explaining it to me he was very helpful. Great teacher if u like a little challenge take him!

Dr. Hale is one of the best professors I've had at APU. If you do the work, study for his quizzes, and pay attention and actually attend class it should be a piece of cake. Reading the material is a must! He's entertaining and sweet as a person. I would one-hundred percent take Dr. Hale again!

Dr. Hale is one of the best professors I have ever had. Yes you will work for your grade and you certainly won''t earn anything you don''t deserve but you will learn more than you could imagine. He is always open to helping his students and he truly wants to see everyone succeed.

Prof. Hale is a great professor. Prof. Hale is willing to help, and more than anything, he cares about you and your situation. He's nit picky on citations, but other than that there is hardly anything he won't be lenient on. In addition, he'll teach you what you need to know to succeed in future classes.

Dr. Hale is definitely the best history professor I've ever taken, and one of my favorite professors at APU. He's incredibly smart, kind, and knowledgeable in many things, from history to politics, philosophy, and the humanities. If you aren't looking for a super in depth examination of history, I don't know if I'd recommend, but he's fantastic.

Dr. Hale lets students discover things themselves by talking it out. He doesn't teach in order to preach his own opinions but to help students gain their own insights. He may not be an expert like some other professors on specific texts, but getting to actually discuss in class is possible because he keeps his comments to a minimum. He's kind, too.

Wouldn't take again

You must go to class and listen to his lengthy lectures to pass. You will have 1-2 quizzes every single class, no doubt. Seems easy at first if you do well on the quizzes, then you take the all written test and realize he is the hardest grader ever. He expects the work of a level 400 class. TESTS and FINAL ARE EXTREMELY HARD.

Too many quizzes, but the cumulative terms quiz saved my grade along with the extra credit. The midterm and final are in class essays that he grades extremely hard. His lectures were at times engaging but wouldn't understand when i looked at my notes later. You have to go to class to be able to study for the essays. Felt that the readings were rand

Dr. Hale is a very difficult grader and requires a lot of his students but if you actually care about history and are interested in the subject, there is no other teacher that I would recommend more. I have learned so much in every course I have taken with him. He also cares and is realistic.

You will learn in this class, not just regurgitate historical facts from a textbook. But, this means it requires hard work. Hale has students read primary sources, examine artwork, listen to music, and discuss the time period being taught. His essay exams require you to think critically about historical events, forming and supporting an argument.

Really a nice professor. I cheated pop quizzes but he let me pass the course. I had to cheat because I could not memorize all the things I learned. I was an international student, by the way.

Really smart guy, but asks for WAY too much for a GE undergrad course. Hes HARDCORE ANAL about small details, like if you dont address every possible angle in evaluating a source you lose points. Also, the midterm and final are insanely hard. Hes like if the Grinch had human skin and taught history for a living. Dont take if not a history major.
