He is very hard and expects us to learn everything. With the curve I got a B-. If there was no curve I'd have probably gotten a D. Assigns way too much reading.
This class requires a lot of reading. It ranges from 30 to 80 pages in the text book plus bible readings per week. There are quizzes which you can do okay on if you read a little or if you listen in class. They're suppose to be pop quizzes, but he always told us before hand, usually on Fridays. A lot of powerpoint, but interesting subject.
Dr. Kirkegaard is a fabulous professor. I went into the class wanting to learn more about the Bible as a text, and that was what I got. I got an A- because I read most of the book and the bible. You WILL read the text and the Bible cover-to-cover, so if you're not into reading, don't bother. Quizzes every other week. Great prof, really cares.
He is so enthusiastic! No quizzes, you do have write ups on what you read(easy) and the midterm and final consist of memorizing dates, vocab(terms) and some essay questions. I never read the textbook, but I had a lot of prior knowledge. I got a B in the class with not much effort at all. Attendance counts for your grade, and a lot of extra credit.
Great professor. His poweropoints are very discriptive and organized. He is always available for help. No quizzes on 2 tests. alot of extra credit.
Dr. Kirkegaard is an expert in his teaching field. His lectures are very insightful. He is also very enthusiastic, which made his class more engaging. The tests weren't too difficult as long as you studied. His lectures were never boring and discussions on readings were encouraged. You will earn the grade you deserve if you put in the effort.
Ok so he was super nice. And he was very knowledgeable about the subject. However, it is time consuming as you have to read and keep a journal. Did not study till the night before tests and got an A in the class.
He's a Super cool professor!!! he is very clear! you do have reading to read. & a quiz every friday or so, but its super simple! listen to his lectures, take notes & read the bible! its simple!!! super simple! GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! he's a great help!!! super sweet!! i would take his class all over again!!! he's awesome!!!
Great professor always willing to explain, just go to office hrs. Gives you a study guide for both the midterm and final and are very helpful!
Just about the nicest teacher I've ever had. He kind of looked like Jesus. Information was extremely clear, but this class is not as easy as you may think. Requires a ton of studying for the tests, but overall the class is pretty easy.
Easy class. Don't need to use the textbook, really. 1 midterm. 1 final. Both include essays, dates, and some extra credit. Just go to class because he takes attendance. Really nice guy and makes sure everyone's on the same page. :)
Awesome teacher. Very clear, for majors, this is a fun and easy class, just stay on top of the readings and the journals. He doesn't like making difficult tests that are just impossible. If you do these things then you'll get an easy A, don't forget to upload your notes! I look forward to taking another one of his sections.
Really fun class. He makes it really interesting because he is very enthusiastic about the subject. A little writing, but VERY easy. Stay on top of it and you will do fine. Gives points for being in class.
Really easy class. He's very smart and really likes the subject, and he helps to make it interesting. Stay on top of the journals that you have to do or it will suck when you have to do them all. Lot of extra credit offered. The tests are complete memorization and really easy, just do the studyguide with the terms from the textbook. Pretty easy A
This prof. has got to be the nicest prof. in the University. He is very enthusiastic about teaching but there is too much reading of the bible and the text. The homework is pretty simple with just a journal entry per week and an online summary. There are two tests so don't mess up with either of them. Pretty hard class but passable.
Dr. Kirkegaard is truly a great guy. I knew absolutely NOTHING about religion or the Bible before taking this class, and I found it to be very easy. I'm really glad I took the class and a I learned a lot. Great class, great professor!
Really enthusiastic and not that difficult of a class. Only two tests and they are all multiple choice. Just a LOT of reading. I heard the other professor who teaches this class is a joke and way easier but if you want to actually learn something take him.
Totally recommend Kirkegaard. This guy is SUPER nice and very knowledgeable of the subject. He will try to learn your name even though the class is in a lecture room. There are tons of reading in the Bible, so just try to keep on them for the quizzes and as long as you do the study guide you should be fine.
Really easy class. He gives you a study guide for the exams which make them easy. He is a great guy and really cares about students and the subject. Make sure to study for those 5 question quizzes. They are really easy if you read.
Professor Kirkegaard's class was very easy and he was very helpful! Make sure to keep up with your Bible readings, Journals, and atleast take a glance at the textbook readings and you'll do fine. His Midterm and final are mutiple choice and his study guides tell you exactly what is going to be on the test. He keeps his lectures interesting and fun.
Professor Kirkegaard is one of the most nicest and caring people I have ever met.Taking notes might be difficult because there is a lot of info covered in each class session. It's also difficult to keep up with all of the bible readings but make sure to not fall behind on journals. Also, study in advance for tests because there's a lot to remember.
Great teacher. He really cares about his students and is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. Sometimes lectures can drag on but he wants his students to be involved and is always willing to help. Tests aren't hard and one semester-long journal was due at the end, which was more time consuming than anything else. Highly recommend!
He is one of the nicest teachers I've met. I took this class for an elective because he was teaching it. If you have any previous knowledge of the Bible and its history, you are good to go. Journal is time consuming, but just DO IT. Great teacher, great class.
He is a very nice guy, I would recommend him! The class was a bit tough however. More so the final I suppose, there were far too many terms! Definitely not an easy a, just keep that in mind!
Very engaged teacher. Really wants students to be interested in the subject. Format is simple- do the reading, write a journal. Tests are multiple choice. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is definitely worthwhile to go. Relatively easy and you learn a lot.
Very clear and helpful. Study guides cover everything for tests. Highly recommend
Teacher is a super nice guy and very interested in what he teaches.....too bad he thinks his students are just as interested. He takes attendance to decide whether or not to bump grade at end of semester. Weekly journals, a midterm, a final, and some extra credit. This class wouldnt be that bad except for the tests, 182 terms for final...ridiculous
THIS CLASS IS WHAT LEAD ME TO BE A RELIGIOUS STUDIES MINOR! This class is super interesting, and even though the textbook is dense with material, as long as you keep up on your journal entries, you do great. The professor is super knowledgeable, and passionate at what he's teaching. If you ever need help, he's willing. AWESOME CLASS. RECOMMEND!
Professor Kirkegaard is extremely knowledgeable about the material, will answer any questions and really helps you to know HOW to read the Bible, not what to believe. There is a midterm, final and journal, as well as extra credit. There are a lot of terms but it isn't too bad bc he teaches the material well.
Overall, he is a GREAT professor (SUPER NICE!). He really knows how to keep his students engange in the subject. The work isn't a lot if you keep up with the journals each week that are due til the end of the semester. The test are multiple choice, and the study guide helps a lot!
This class was super easy. I would have had an A but I never went to class. One two page journal entry per week which was super easy. And one midterm and one final. As long as you set up a google doc and the class works together to do all the terms its super easy. I would reccomend it.
best proff. in the world its super easy class the midterm and final are just memorizing terms.if u go to class you wont even have to memorize them all you will just remember them because of lecture.
Such a great professor and he is super nice! He does take attendance so you have to go to class. Do the journals weekly or it's a lot of work to catch up on. He may have inspired me to become a religious studies minor. Great class!
Class was really easy, go to lecture because he takes attendance, but all you really need to do to do well in the class is listen to the mini-lectures and take the quizzes based on them, and make flashcards with the terms he gives you for the study guide for the mid-term and final. Easy class, easy A.
Class was a lot harder than expected. There is A LOT of work. Teacher is very passionate about the subject but it didn't help me learn any better. Although, I passed when I thought i was forsure going to fail.
Nicest professor ever. Accepts crashers. Do well on the online quizzes & keep up on the weekly journals even though he doesn't collect them until the end. He does take attendance for points. Definitely put in study time for the midterm & final. There are A LOT of terms & dates to memorize. Overall, you really make your own grade. Great professor!
He takes attendance, gives lots of extra credit opportunities, there's mini-lectures and quizes online every weekend, you only have to go to class M&W friday is when he post the mini-lecture, grade is based on 1midterm, 1final, journal entries on bible stories, and participation. He's really good at lecturing, and is willing to answer any question.
If youre interested in the subject, def take him! you learn a lot and he teaches it well. It definitely require some stdying, but dont buy the Harris book. I got an A without ever reading it. I knew nothing about the subject coming in and left with great knowledge and an A
He is seriously the nicest guy ever and He looks like Jesus! He loves the material he teaches and is really inspiring. The class is actually challenging. There are lots of terms and dates to memorize. EVERY weekend there are online quizes that can make or break your grade.
SUPER NICE. Makes topics interesting, and yes there are A LOT of terms but as long as you study you will be fine, got an A in the class
I loved him!! He is with out a doubt the nicest man I have ever met. He definitely brightened my days taking his religious class first. You can tell he loves the topic, and he can explain it tremendously. Just make sure you do well on the online quizzes... that was my only downfall.
He is truly gifted at teaching, and it is incredibly obvious that he is not only an expert on the subject, but he loves it as well. He takes attendance every day so it is not a class that you can skip, but honestly he makes the subject so interesting that I found myself wanting to go.
Kirkegaard is the sweetest man. Anyone who says his class is hard is fooling you. It's just a busy work kind of class. As long as you watch the weekly mini-lectures, write the journals, and attend class, you're golden. He gives out lots of extra credit opportunity and there is only one midterm and a final (both just memorization). TAKEHISCLASS!
Great lecturer and a fair professor. My only complaint is the amount of busy work there is for such a low level class, but it also gives you plenty of chances to keep your grade up! 2 very straightforward exams carry most of the points. Attend class, watch the online lectures and ace those easy 5 point quizzes! I would def. take Kirkegaard again.
He's a great guy and an easy teacher. Mine was a hybrid course. It is similar to his 100 class. 1 MC midterm and 1 MC final, a weekly journal, seating chart, and you have to take notes on the electronic readings. Some weeks there is a lot of reading online which makes this course tough. But the tests are really easy.
You can tell he's super interested in the subject and loves teaching it. He's really nice and helpful, just study hard and make sure to watch the online lectures!
Attendance is part of your grading, but trust me you will be so interested you won't want to miss class. My favorite class ever! And I barely studied for the Midterm and Final I easily passed with an A!He is such a great professor he keeps it so interesting because he knows so much! And he is very helpful. I highly recommend this class!:)
He is a great professor. you do have to spend a little bit of time doing weekly homework but i didn't think it was too bad. i am religious so this class was interesting but he is not overpowering and keeps it educational. do the work and study and you will be fine
This class is stupid but if you do the readings and listen to the mini lectures, you'll be fine. Do well on the quizzes cause that's basically all your grade is. He's really nice. Do your work and go to class and you can get an A. Lots of extra credit. Wants to help his students.
watch the mini lectures and study his study guide before the midterm and final and you will be good!!
I found this class quite challenging. It requires quite a bit of work, time and effort, however, if you do everything you need to do to your best ability you can get an A even with lousy grades on the midterm and final. With all of that said, he is a really great and interesting guy. You truly learn so much from him and the class.
This was a hybrid class and Dr. Kirkegaard is such a sweetheart! He's really helpful and gives you plenty of busy work in the class, so there is some time and effort required, but you learn so much from him. I thoroughly enjoyed this class :)
Absolutely amazing class! Very helpful and understanding professor who makes every class worth going to. Gets very into his work, and overall just enjoy being in there.
This was a great class! Teacher makes things interesting and takes time to remember students. Tests are based 80% off names in the bible and who is who the rest is dates and vocab. The only part I didn't like about this class is his mini lectures… they are not mini they are like 1 or more hours of video each time they are assigned.
Best professor ever. Made class interesting and you can tell he truly cares about the subject and wants his students to learn. One of the nicest guys too. Always asking how you were, would answer any question with a smile. Never used the textbook, but listen to online lectures and take notes in class.
Amazing professor, truly loves what he does and it definitely shows. Made class always interesting. Don't procrastinate on the journals, they're super easy, you just have to buckle down and do them. Overall awesome teacher!
This class was very interesting, yet I hated the amount of busy work it required because I really don't like reading. I barely did the reading and I still got away with an A. Just pay attention to his online lectures he posts on Blackboard every Friday, do journals, and study all the terms he posts for each exam, and you'll do fine!
Lectures are interesting & he jokes around. Be prepared to read, do journals weekly, lots of vocab, online lectures online quizzes weekly. Lots of busy work. Group discussions every week. His goals is to get through the whole Bible in one semester. He's VERY understanding and easy to talk to & tries to learn student names
Great teacher! He really makes an effort to know all of his students and is more then willing to help anybody.
Kirkegaard is such an amazing professor! You can tell he really loves the Bible, and he tries to get to know everyone. 2 online modules with a quiz every week, 2 exams, and journals due at the end of the semester. He class is A LOT of work, but it's definitely passable if you know all the terms. Didn't buy the book, passed with an A.
Easy class. Zone out during lectures and play on your phone, then study for 10 hours before the midterm and final and you got yourself an A. Textbook is not needed.
Prof Kirkegaard is very passionate about what he is teaching, however he presents religionBible in a way that is not pushy. He does not try to convert you to Christianity and he stays very professional. Weekly mini lectures (that aren't so mini) and weekly quizzes should be expected. Don't need the textbook but you do need access to a Bible.
Professsor Kirkegaard is an extremely nice professor who is willing to help students out if anything is confusing to them. However, this GE is a ton of work taking his class so BEWARE! It consists of journals done every week, a midterm, online mini-lectures and quizzes every week, and a midterm, and final. Also, attendance is accounted for.
Brad is an amazing guy. He has a heart of Gold. This class was fairly simple if you read the bible verses and just do the journals once a week, instead of wait till the last week. Reading the book by Harris is very beneficial in understanding the material. QUIZLET NOTECARDS HELPED A LOT! Notecards, reading, quick journals, 5 question quiz's, A+
Best teacher at SDSU! He is nice & very friendly. Pay attention to everything he says! You readlearn about the Bible! Each week you have to: take an online quiz on his videos & write a journal entry about what you read using biblical criticisms. There is also a midterm & a final (very easy!). Extra credit opportunities are available too.
Really passionate about the material and will make you passionate about it too. He memorizes everyone's name by the end of week three and really holds you accountable for attendance. Overall, a great class taught by a great professor.
He's an awesome guy. Passionate about the subject, interesting lectures and class discussion. The class can be time consuming though, his mini lectures he posts online are usually over 45 minutes total. Weekly online quizzes, a midterm, weekly journaling on the bible and a final make up your grade. I never read the Harris textbook and I did fine.
Very passionate about the subject. Takes the material beyond the facts and he knows a great amount about the subject he is talking about. His class is difficult, but is well worth the homework. Quiz every week online on mini-lecture videos posted online. Midterm and Final are the only exams. Do not need text book. Overall, an exceptional class.
Kirkegaard was very into the material which makes lectures much more fun and interesting. He is very helpful if you reach out to him. The midterm and final were pretty tough and are worth half your grade, but if you study you will be fine. Do not procrastinate for the journal.
Kirkegaard is SUPER nice and extremely knowledgeable with the material. There's a final, midterm, and a journal you do throughout the semester. Tests have a lot of terms but if you study all day before you'll do fine. Flashcards helped. LOTS of extra credit opportunities. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE WITH THE JOURNAL. You will hate yourself.
You have a midterm, a cumulative final, and a journal that you work on over the semester. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THE JOURNAL. Prof K is so so helpful and understanding. Extra credit is offered throughout the semester and is accepted all the way to the day of the final.
Not the easiest class; you have to write a journal weekly after reading passages from the bible, take quizzes every weekend, and a midterm and a final. The tests are worth half of your grade, but if you know/memorize every term from the study guide, then the exams are easy. Also, you don't need the book, but it's a great help for the tests.
Prof Kirkegaard definitely cares about his students' success. He's very knowledgable about the Bible and I found this class really interesting. Make sure you read the texts and stay on top of your journals, even if it may be a lot. Take good notes in class and on his mini lectures because that information appears on the quizzes, midterm and final.
fully engages with his students - he knows who we are and doesn't treat us as just a mass of faces. That to me is critical in calling forth the best from students. The content of his lectures is illuminating - I knew a lot about the subject before starting his class, but learned things I had never considered. Fascinating facts presented.
Super enthusiastic professor but LOTS OF READING AND WRITING! 1-2pg journals due each class period. Some are on the bible others are electronic (LONG!!!). 1 MC Midterm. 1 MC Final. Lastly a 3-5pg reflection on what you learned throughout the course. EC available for 0.5% added to final grade, in exchange for a 2pg paper on a movie/event.
This class is difficult because I found it hard to want to sit down and listen to his online lectures. Professor Kirkegaard is caring about his students in the way he talks & phrases emails, however he is not concise. His lectures take more time than they should and drag on because of this. After 5 minutes I lose focus. Very boring class.
I took this class with hope it would be an easy GE, but to my finding this course was a very difficult 100 level online class. I would spend hours taking notes on lectures and the textbook to fail almost all the quizzes. If you need to take this class i would recommend taking it in a classroom setting.
Do not take for an easy A. Heavy lectures every week. Quizzes are worth 50% of your grade and he takes the top 4 out of 6. The questions are super specific. Had weekly Text Analysis and responses. I would spend hours trying to finish all the work he would give. Harsh grader at the end of the semester as well.
So this class was fun and engaging but there's two main things. 1) some of his lectures were just old class recordings and kind of hard to follow 2) he literally doesn't grade anything and you'll never know why you got what grade. If you're okay with that, this class is fine. But if you like feedback, this is not the class for you.
This class wasn't hard, just a lot of busy work. If you're familiar with the Bible already it will help a lot, however you still need to watch the lectures. I never read from the textbook. The lectures were kind of abundant and long, but not unbearable. If you're taking a lot of other time consuming classes though, skip out on this one.
The best professor on sdsu campus! he memorizes each students name. He is so smart and so kind. Classes are very fun and interesting. He will challenge you with a ton of reading for Abr Faiths and Women and the Bible but so worth it! Such a great professor, mentor and friend! Get to know Dr. K!
This was his first online semester, but he did really well! Posted assignments early so you can get them out of the way and left quizzes open for four days so you can do them at your convenience. He also responds to emails within 3 hrs. I didn't get to see the kindness side of him from his lectures but this class was definitely a good choice.
Bi-weekly quizzes, 4 out of 6 count. They are VERY difficult. The writing assignments are easy, and the grading criteria is clear and fair. One part that bothered me is nothing is graded until the end of the semester, and no feedback is given. You will only be given your final grade. Don't waste time watching lectures, just use the book
There were a lot of recorded lectures to watch and he talks really slow but luckily on some you could increase the speaking speed. The quizzes were almost always on the lectures so make sure you take notes on those. The discussion board posts were pretty tedious but as long as you kind of know what you're talking about you're fine
Online class filled with busy work. Weekly lectures videos will put you to sleep. Weekly bible readings will put you to sleep. Weekly text analysis are not that bad. I picked one bible passage and wrote about and listened to that specific part of the lecture video. DO EVERYTHING ON TIME OR YOU WILL FALL BEHIND. Did very well because of that.
This has been my favorite professor during my time at state. Clear guidelines and easy to follow.
Great professor, clear instructions, watch the lectures and participate in class and you will do fine.
Absolutely loved him! He is such an amazing professor. I took 3 of his classes and always learned so much and he cared so much for his students. Take him for any religion class! He is an inspiration and wish I could take more of his classes. Such a great person. Makes time for anyone who may be struggling but I doubt you will. Great great!!
Unbelievable professor who is so passionate about what he teaches. Very clear lectures and grading. Show up to class (mandatory), listen to his lectures, participate and you'll do great. Clear midterm, clear final. Use his office hours if you want to go over your tests or for questions. Looking forward to 2 more courses with him!
If you want to learn & discuss religion in a respectful environment--he makes it possible. He's truly a gem. He's humble & loves learning more from students. He loves teaching & is great at it. No matter if you come from a religious background or not, take his class & you'll learn so much. A good amount of reading. Hybrid class.
Best professor! He makes religions easier to talk about, even when it comes to conflict. The class is very basically set-up: Come to class and participate (you can miss but email him and try not to miss to much because his lectures are actually so great) Hour online lectures on Friday, Quiz on lecture, tests, and weekly journals. Take his class
Overall a really good professor. He is definitely one of those professors that really enjoys the subject and you can tell by his lectures. I took the online class and it was very lecture heavy, around 3-5 lectures a week, 45-50 minutes each. It's an easy A if you take lots of notes during the lectures because the quizzes are very detail specific
This class is EXTREMELY hard if you take it online. You must have a lot of good time management skills LOADS of hwk, assignments, and lectures to do each week. Quizzes are VERY specific. However there are only 6 quizzes and NO tests. If I'm honest, the lectures are rather boring, it's just him talking over a powerpoint and it can be hard to focus.
Online courses are usually available to work with students complex schedules, yet his class did not! Assigned multiple videos 30+mins every week to watch and take notes on. Had to read 5-6 biblical chapters and a chapter from the textbook he makes you get. On top of that like 20 key words you have to study before the quiz. Quizzes 50% of grade
3 or 4 online lectures a week, each around 30 to 45 minutes long, just have good time management. Rent the book that he assigns for the quizzes b/c most of the answers are in the glossary in the back. Don't read the book chapters &just listen on YouTube to whatever he assigns for the Bible readings so that you don't feel like you actually read.
He's an amazing professor who loves his class. However, do not take this class for an easy A, or if you have a lot of other things going on. He grades pretty easy for his papers, but the quizzes are pretty hard. I didn't read the book, or watch his lectures after a while because of how busy I was- not that it helped for the weekly quizzes.
Dr. Kirkegaard is definitely passionate about religion, & genuinely wants to engage students. However, the workload for an online, 100lvl class is too much. Class is heavy on reading & multiple 20-40min weekly lectures. Weekly discussions are interesting though. I wouldn't take this class if you have a busy schedule, as the workload is overwhelming
DO NOT take this class if you have a busy schedule. The workload is extremely heavy with long chapter readings and Bible readings. Use Quizlet to study the vocab terms thoroughly as the quizzes are extremely difficult (I passed 2/6). The class is also made up of BB posts and long lecture videos (30-40min) that you have to watch every week
The quizzes are extremely specific and random and you can only take them once, you have to record yourself during the quizzes. There is one discussion post and one quiz per week. There is ec opport. but it'll only bring you up 3%. Do not recommend for someone that is busy during the summer. Be prepared to invest 20 hours weekly for this class.
Take Him! inspired, interesting classes; students encouraged to discuss/express thoughts and questions in class and office. Ive taken him for 3 classes never disappointed or bored. Approachable, personal, deeply caring about his students. Loves the material he presents, very knowledgable. Attend class, read assignmts, straightforward tests A
Dr. K is by far my favorite teacher I have ever had at SDSU. I took this class when I was studying abroad in Florence and had the time of my life. The class material is interesting and Dr. K himself is literally a ray of sunshine. You can really tell he cares about his students! Simply the best!
By far the most amazing professor at SDSU. Feel free to go to him in office hours for he is always there to listen and encourage . The class is easy if you watch his lectures and do the reading. The writing assignments are an amazing opportunity to personally dive into the material, question and gain conviction. Highly recommend!
You can tell Professor Kirkegaard really loves to teach and he is very knowledgable about the topic. He is engaging and accepts everyone's interpretations of the text. This class is very interesting and relevant, being a woman in this day and age. Take the opportunity to get to know Prof. Kirkegaard! He's awesome!
This was by far my favorite class I've ever taken at SDSU. Every student was from a different walk of life and we were all able to share our perspectives. I met one of my best friends in that class. The class itself is ground-breaking and exactly what we need right now. You leave knowledgable and humbled. This class is a must! Not hard, but read.
A lot of this class is how you wish to engage the material. Dr. Kirkegaard encourages students to think for themselves and truly engage with the material. While there may be a lot of reading, it is all interesting. The assignments were not busy work but helped in understanding the material. One of the best professors on campus!
Took his Death, Dying and Afterlife class and it was so interesting. He is a very caring person, remembers all of his students by first name, greets them every morning and genuinely just cares about what you learn from this course and what you have to share during discussion. Weekly videos and lectures to watch followed by a 5 question quiz.
Dr. Kirkegaard is one of the best I have had. This was his first semester teaching Rel258, and I am so impressed. He is one of the most caring professors, he remembers every ones name and greets them with a big smile every day. I highly recommend taking this class with Kirkegaard for a GE, it was so worth it.
Not a bad class. It was actually interesting. 6 quizzes, a weekly blog post, a blog post response, and a final paper are the only things graded. There are probably 2ish hours of lectures a week which kind of sucks but it is bearable..
Professor had such a sweet soul and was super passionate about this class. He made a notable effort to be as unbias as possible while lecturing about all the religions learned. He gave weekly journals based on the text given for the week, a midterm, a final and a reflection paper. Be involved and participate in class, he appreciates that!
Class was interesting and assignments are straight-forward, however there is no clear grading criteria. If you want to know how you're doing in the class, forget about it. He refuses to let students know what they score on any and all assignments. All of his assignments are also purely subjective, so you literally have no idea how you're doing.
his class is a weekly 250 word discussion post & two 75 word replies with a quiz every 2 or 3 weeks. quizzes use lockdown browser but some sections have quizlets that you can study from. it's an online GE that takes an hour to complete a week's worth of HW, so if you are looking to lighten up your schedule and fulfill a GE i'd recommend this class
I am a 4th year Marketing student and wish I wouldn't have taken this class. Dr. K seems like a very nice guy and a good professor if you're interested in the subject. There is so much reading and so many lectures that take up so much time. It is absolutely brutal to read and listen to if you aren't religious. Overall, the class sucks and don't rec
Dr. Kirkegaard's class is my favorite that I have taken so far. I was really impressed by his depth of knowledge on the lecture material. He also really cares about each of his students, and greets them by name each class meeting. The reading isn't too heavy if you keep up with it, but lectures aren't recorded so be sure to take notes.
Kirk is such a caring and involved professor, I wish all of my others were like him! The class is structured by weekly quizzes, one weekly discussion, some journal entries, a midterm, and a final--all of which are pretty easy if you're keeping up. The material is actually very intriguing and you come out of the class with a new perspective!
Pay attention to the lectures and you will pass. He is very passionate about this class even though the content of the class can be very heavy he is super respectful. He can be tough but it is because he cares, his lectures are very easy to follow and as long as you take good notes you will be fine.
hes an absolute gem and youll learn a ton but dont take this class expecting to coast through without doing the work. you definitely have to read closely and take good notes to do well on the tests but if youre interested in the content youll get a ton out of this course
100% solid teacher. This guy is so rad and is gives all the info you need to be successful. This class really makes you think about life, a true Rabbit hole which I love! Easy 3 unit class, weekly discussion w/ 2 replies, midterm and final and a reflection paper. All are easy!
I took his Death, Dying, Afterlife class and learned so much. The class consists of weekly lectures that you take a 5 question quiz on (he drops the lowest 3), and weekly discussion posts about the material. He is very kind, loves what he teaches, is very good at responding if you have questions, and the class itself is easy and interestesting.
Professor Kirkegaard was amazing to learn from. You do actually have to watch his lectures, but they are so interesting that I never found them boring. The quizzes each week are only 5 questions and they are straight from the lectures. The discussion posts are super short, too. I highly recommend this class and professor - super fascinating!
Dr. Kirkegaard has such a tactful and respectful way to cover the class delicate topics. The topics covered are extremely interesting and relevant to each one of us (the topics being death, dying and afterlife). I took this class as an elective and I am so glad I chose it, I am sure I will bring these teachings with me throughout life.
Such an amazing professor and he's super passionate about what he teaches. Weekly 2 hour lectures, DB post + reply, and 5 question quiz 15 minute time limit Lockdown browser no camera. One midterm, final, and final paper. This class will change your perspective on life and wake you up. I highly recommend him. You will leave with so much wisdom.
This is a very easy and interesting GE to take. Just watch the lectures and the accompanying videos and you'll get an A
Although the whole course was online, he was very accessible. He records really in depth lectures and assigns lots of videos and readings each week. He is a Harvard alum- the class isn't super easy, but it is interesting. The quizzes cover general understanding, but the midterm and final are a bit more challenging. Does offer extra credit!
Fascinating material, engaging lectures, straightforward quizzes. I have nothing but positive things to say about Professor Kirkegaard. As long as you understand the material, you'll get an A. No trick questions or bad teaching; easily my favorite class I've taken at SDSU.
My favorite professor I have ever had. His lectures are very engaging and the course material was super cool. If you go to the lectures and do the weekly assignments (easy) you will do well in the class. He is the most caring professor I've ever met, and if you have a chance to take him, do it!!!
i. love. prof. kirkegaard. this man is so sweet and i can tell her actually cares about his students. the class was super easy, just pretty lecture heavy but nothing you cant handle. the tests and quizzes were all online so really simple. overall a great professor, take him!!
HUM411*Hard to get in contact with Very specific test questions/super detailed lectures.Material was interesting but the quizzes and tests were short/specific for the amount of material-put in work and A is attainable. Tried to reach out for help but received bare minimum in return. Really nice, but class setup needs help-low in points.
Kierkegaard is a really great professor! On the last day of class the students actually applauded him! There are a lot of videos/readings but if you do them you'll do well on the quizzes. His passion really comes through during his lectures and this is probably the best class I've ever taken at sdsu. I really recommend this class!
A lot of reading and a lot of discussion posts, but everything aside the class is good. Be prepared to analyze the Bible, this is an intense class when it comes to quizzes.
I did enjoy the material that I learned in this class. What I did not like was how the Professor grades all your discussion posts at the very end of the semester. I thought I was doing well on all my discussion posts and the Professor barely graded all of the combined discussion posts. I got a B and find it unfair that there was no feedback.
Good professor and good class there's just a lot of reading and watching online lectures. Other than that its a very easy class.
Weekly quizzes that are so insanely specific to the material. There is no way to cheat. 5 questions 10 points each so if you miss 2 questions you already failed. Do the work and commit time to take notes on the lectures you'll pass but this was definitely not the easiest class as other people are saying it is.
Professor Kirkegaard is a really amazing teacher, I enjoyed this class a lot. To do well, you really have to watch the lectures and videos and genuinely pay attention. Your grade is pretty much based solely on the weekly quizzes which are 50 points for 5 questions. The content is very interesting, so just actually do the work and it's an easy A.
I took the course online and it was basically a weekly quiz + discussion post. If you watch the lecture, you should be able to do both just fine. The quizzes are 5 questions so it sucks to miss one, but he drops 3 of your worst quiz grades and for some reason this also includes your grade on tests. Tests are very similar to quizzes.
Amazing professor. All the materials were videos or articles posted directly to canvas. He is passionate about the subject, his lectures are interesting, and he has the easiest assignments in the world. Overal an interesting person to talk to.
This class was super interesting and this professor is very passionate about his teachings. If you watch the lectures the tests will be a lot easier. There are also a lot of textual readings. Personally, I enjoyed his class, and the text analyses are very interesting! He is also super caring!
While he isn't a bad choice, getting an A in this class is not as easy as it seems. The first few quizzes on different religious practices are easy (if you go to the lectures) but as you get into the later quizzes, he makes questions based on the videos he assigns you to watch rather than his lecture. Takes attendance before class as well.
Each week has a list of short readings/videos (some weeks had more than others), a discussion board, and a 5-question quiz based off the material+lecture. After the midterm the quizzes are more specific so pay attention. Information from lectures + participation in class discussion is very important. Assignment grades are based on completion.
RELS258 may be the best course I have taken at SDSU. It provoked very interesting thought and it changed my life for the better. He is a great teacher and person. He does assign lots of weekly material through readings and videos but if you do all of it the class isn't super difficult and it is all beneficial. Highly recommend him and his course.
i really enjoyed this class because it was nice to have an introduction to the bible class. however, he is not very easy to reach so keep that in mind! there are many lectures (40+ minutes) each week where the test answers come from and you MUST watch those to find the answers as they cannot be found anywhere else (kind a pain) but overall 7/10
the content is interesting and i enjoyed it but it's best to take this class if you're still taking your lower divisions. there are multiple 40+ min lectures each week that you have to watch in order to pass the quizzes. each quiz was 15 minutes (i think) and was proctored. i would definitely say this class is one of the harder ge's.
Dr. Kirkegaard is an amazing and knowledgeable professor. Despite this class for me was online and asynchronous, I was still able to learn and be engaged because of the weekly quizzes and discussion posts. Yes, the assignments are time-consuming and the quizzes are specific, but the topics of each module are genuinely interesting.
Dr. Kirkegaard is fantastic, I took an in-person class with him last year and that was incredible. The online class is unfortunate, as he is incredible live. Nevertheless, he makes an interesting curriculum, supplemented by many youtube videos that are interesting to watch. His assignments are very approachable. I recommend him strongly.
Hands down the best professor I have had at SDSU. Great class, great lectures, and good material. The only class that has changed the way I think about things. Take him if you get the chance.
Professor is GREAT, very knowledgeable and kind. Fantastic, interesting course that I was actually excited to do. Material isn't hard (1 discussion & quiz/week) but can be time consuming, lots of videos/reading. Watch the lectures at 2x speed and take notes- all of it is on tests. This is one of my top 3 fav courses taken at SDSU, highly recommend.
Easy A if you do the weekly discussion boards and watch the lectures and weekly quizzes but you can use your notes.
His quizzes can be confusing that's why you'll need to read the full material from the modules, also some of the quiz questions are included in the test
Kirkegaard is simply AMAZING. So caring for his students and genuinely the nicest guy. I love him as a professor!!!!!
The professor for this online humanities course is great - engaging lectures and manageable coursework. Using Unstuckstudy alongside the required materials really helped me stay on top of the weekly quizzes and discussions.
Really easy GE
Did all of the assignments without watching the videos however it was time consuming
If you are looking for a class to fulfill a GE this is it! The work was very simple, straightforward, and the topics were actually really interesting.
Great professor! Knows his stuff, and the lecture material is interesting. For an online GE, there is a lot of weekly material to read/watch. You can get by with just the lecture videos, though, and you kind of have to watch them so you can do the weekly discussion post and quiz. This is definitely a class you should take for an easy A.
There are weekly discussions and quizzes assigned, very easy A class.
REL S390. Unfairly difficult. Weekly discussions and quizzes. Quizzes make up 30% of your grade, are 10 points each with 5 questions, and have a strict 5 minute timer. They require a lockdown browser so you can't go to another tab or cheat, and this class is lecture heavy with over 2 hours of video lecture each week plus readings and other videos.
