Made statistics an enjoyable class. Has a great sense of humor.
His class is not easy, but its not too difficult either. You know what to expect every day when you come to class. Dont expect any days off though. He seems a little aloof and not easy to talk to.
Decent teacher, but not the best at school. Would reccomend somebody else's class if available.
I appreciated his sense of humor. He tends to breeze over things, yet he'll go over it again and again if you ask him to.
Good teacher in an especially difficult class. Grading is fair. Exams are challenging, but not too hard. Definitely would recommend him for any other math class. Funny.
Great all around guy. As long as you do your homework and pass weekly quizes, throughly you'll do fine.
Nobody likes a math teacher, huh? but as it goes Brad Krein is an excellent teacher, always respectful, always has time for students. Take him if you have the chance.
It almost feels as though he does not want to teach this class. He is incredibly unclear and his tests and quizzes are unfair. This material is not that hard, but I think he is making it harder than it needs to be.
Wonderful guy a lot of fun. Very reasdonable tests. Deffinatly the guy to take Stats from
The worst teacher I have had at Cabrillo. This guy does not teach; he talks to himself. Brad does not prepare for class but opens up the book to recite examples for lecture and isn't aware of non-collected HW assigned, just says "do the odds".
He is a complete dork, jerk and butthead. He has no sympathy. I worked my butt off for this class. He is HARD, UNCLEAR, goes TO FAST, and he doesn't know how to teach. Look for another teacher unless you want to know what HELL is like.
I do not think he cares if his students know what he is talking about. He could use an art class as well.
This has to be the worst teacher that I have ever had. He is very smart, but he is horrible at explaining things. At times, it seems as if he forgets the class is there, and he's just walking himself through the problem very quickly. The average on our first major exam was was a D or F. Avoid him.
Krein excells at vaguely covering topics in class, and expecting you to master them on the exams. When half of your class drops, that's not a good thing.
Assumes that his students already know Calculus, or at least have psychic abilities on par with Miss Cleo. I've never even met LaToya Jackson, so I was screwed.
He's very unclear and it's hard to figure out what's going on. He seems totally disinterested, and when I went to his office hours he didn't seem to want to help me.
Please if you are not good at math DO NOT TAKE HIM! He is very smart, and expects you to know to much, and doesnt let you use notes. You cant convince him of anything. He doesnt care about his students at all. Funny guy but hard
Avoid at all costs. You have been warned.
A good guy but a very unclear teacher, he talks to you like you know as much math as he does, not a good teacher if you are not good at math
Krien is the WORST math teacher i have EVER encountered. He was unclear, did not explain anything, talked tyo you like you were a genious at math like him. and then when when half the class is failing he blames it on our lack of studying. don't go to office hours you WONT be helped
He is the worst math teacher I have ever had, math is already hard enough and all he does is make it harder, his tests are so stupid and unclear, and he grades unfairly, whatever you do do not pick him as a teacher.
i think he hates women, he is rude, and gives off an arogant tone. no fun, and dosnt get you excited to learn. very boring. says the same jokes each simester...
If you're a sponge, go for it. Otherwise, he goes over his examples really, really fast, so it's really hard to keep up. I've got a 3.6 GPA and I had to drop his class because I was doing so poorly. I definitely don't reccomend this guy to the average person.
Don't expect to learn math from this guy. He expects you to know everything already. He goes VERY fast...the other classes were chapters behind us. No notes or calculators on quizzes, 3x5 card for tests. For the love of your GPA, don't take his class!
Avoid him by any means. He is very unclear and arrogant. He diminishes his students all the time.
Nice guy, but he just can't seem to make the information clear. His tests and quizes are easy, but that's all that your grade consists of, so it will either make or break your grade. You kind of have to teach yourself. By the time the semester ended half the class dropped.
this class was ridiculous. I've never before had a class where you could show up every day, do all the work, study, and still not pass. his tests had random questions that didn't have anything to do with the lectures or assigned work. tests were ridiculously hard, even for those good in math he wasn't very clear with examples. take krause
This is the worst teacher I have taken, ever, and I am almost done with classes at Cabrillo. He is not helpful, doesn't do anything but GLOSS over the material. It feels as though you have to teach yourself the text. What a waste of my money this class was. Just doesn't teach the material.....
HE IS TERRIBLE! IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A QUALITY TEACHER, LOOK ELSEWHERE. I TRIED TAKING HIS CLASSES AND COULDN'T HANG. BUT, I NOW ATTEND SAN JOSE STATE AND AM RECEIVE A'S AND B'S IN MATH. HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT? THIS GUY HIDES HIS LACK OF TEACHING SKILLS BEHIND SNIDE COMMENTS AND SARCASTIC ANSWERS TO IN CLASS QUESTIONS.
I started with this teacher and had to drop. He has an amusing sense of humor (witty and sarcastic) that not everyone gets but he cracked me up. HOWEVER, the material was not at all clear, he wouldn't take time to answer questions, and he was slightly arrogant. I would HIGHLY recommend that you take Joseph Krause instead.
Didn't require homework be turned in, but if you didn't do the work, your grade suffers. Quizzes every monday which are really easy as long as you do the homework. Exams are fairly easy, again, if you do the work. Takes time to fully answer any questions and makes sure you understand before moving on. Good all around math teacher.
Doesn't ask for homework but be sure to do it. Quizzes every week. Glazes over material. I would reccommend Paying attention and being smart or else you will have difficulty. Hard to get ahead in this class.
Okay. So what the dude is a comedian? He's also the toughest teacher out there as far as grades. The set up is ridiculous. He only has a few LARGE tests and small labs, and the questions on the test are nothing like those in the homework. Usually I don't mind working my ass off for classes, but this was hell...and I still got a D.
I find his teaching methods difficult. Plus he doesn't give you any kind of a way to get points besides tests and quizzes.
A really nice and interesting teacher but a really hard class. Would not recommend taking his class.
Tests are hard, questions can be tricky. Deducts points on tests for things he did not tell you about ahead of time. Labs are sometimes poorly defined. Do the homework! Ask questions in class. Responds to e-mails only during office hours.
Not very understanding of anything. was not helpful. His class started with 50 and ended with 8 and only 6 that i know of passed??? that is LAME
I like Krein. He is a super funny and cool guy, fun to be in class. He is not that hard, just like most classes you have to do some homework. Quizzes are easy if you keep up in the class, so are the exams for the most part. I don't know why he is so hated, people are really lazy. He teaches Math very well and treats you like an adult, no down talk.
I took Brad's class twice, got a D the first time and a B the second. Needed this to transfer to a masters program. Ouch, this class hurt. I attended every day and did homework. I've taken TWO upper-division STAT'S courses with my BA at my U. and they made much more sense to me than this time around. I don't think he's passionate about teaching.
Lets just say the Statistics class started with 55 students and ended with 7. Not a good experience
Wow...... worst teacher I have ever had! He doesn't care much for his student's educational needs, and come to think of it, doesn't really care much for his students. I have never not passed a class. Didn't pass this one. Just read the book, cause he won't teach you.I hope he reads this and quits teaching. It would be a blessing to future students.
I took his class years ago. Somehow, made it through this class with a B. Partly because I sat in the front row and paid attention, partly because my brother was in the class with me, and we helped each other, and partly because despite the strange mustache, I found him to be kind of visually appealing. Made me pay attention, anyway.
He really worked to help students learn and was there to re explain.
He expects students to hate the subject. I came in ready to learn be interested in the subject, and he turned that around. I sat staring at the clock a lot of the time. He yawns in front of students and he himself watches the clock. I think if he had more enthusiasm, he could spread that to the class. half of our class dropped out.
Krein gives 10 quizes (one a week), 3 tests, and one final. He doesn't give points for attendance or participation or homework-- it's up to you to do it on your own. You really can get a lot out of the class if you put effort, and he'll always answer ANY question you have. His jokes are witty and clever. He's an enjoyable guy and a good teacher. :)
The people on here who say Krein's "the worst teacher I ever had" and that he's so horrible are people who aren't willing to learn and who are just looking for an easy A. Krein is a truly incredible teacher for students who actually apply themselves & put forward the effort to succeed. If youre actually interested in learning, Krein's your man.
Gives weekly quizzes which will help you prepare somewhat for exams. Unfortunately uses exams to teach you stuff he did not cover in class. Not your best choice for taking statistics. Our class started with 40, ended with 7. You decide. The stats are not in your favor!
Not as mean as many have said, but he is an ass. He looks at the clock more than the students and paces back and forth like a lion in a cage. He doesn't seemed prepared, like he is just winging his lectures as he goes along. Doesn't help and when I tried to ask a question that went further than Stats he said I wasn't smart enough. Avoid if possible
Does not seem to enjoy teaching the class. constantly checks the clock and explains the problem while he's standing in front of the writing on the board, making very difficult to comprehend. don't worry, you won't be the only person who doesn't understand what he's teaching.
Teaches mostly from the textbook, so it's easy to go back and check on what was done in class; explains things well; interactive approach makes class more fun. Exams are the easiest math tests I've ever taken and grading is not too strict. Brad's very smart, but friendly and thus approachable. Homework policy makes procrastination painful.
Krein is by far the worst professor I have ever had, not just at Cabrillo. I managed to get an A in the class, but that was probably only because I took AP STAT in high school. He is completely unreasonable and does not care about students. Even if the time is convenient in your schedule, it is not worth his condescending remarks and bad teaching.
Brad expects his students to pay attention, be on time, and be prepared. If you do the homework, ask as soon as something is unclear, and put in the time, you will understand the material. He is not one of those teachers who will spoon feed the material to you, but you will come finish class with stonger nueron connections if you take his class.
Awesome.
LAZY. At times he is to lazy to use a calculator to put the right answer on the board or go out of his way to do his job & help you learn, seems to hate teaching. If math comes easy to you then this teacher doesn't matter. If you want a teacher who will help you learn & set a good foundation of the material then do your research & find someone else
His teaching was unclear. Even with doing homework and studying, you would not be prepared for tests. You can lean much more from reading the text book than attending class. I would not advise taking his class.
Whole class relies on textbook work. Homework not checked, but tests are hard. Very boring, with mediocre, confusing lectures. Lots of quizzes. Hard to pass this class without thorough textbook work. Highly unrecommended.
Let me just say this. If you wanna know how University Math Professors teaches take him.
TERRIBLE lecturer. He's sometimes too lazy to erase the board, so the sample problems are scattered and not done clearly. No step by step methods. He reads a problem from the book and silently works on it until he makes a mistake and has the class try to figure it out.One benefit is that he will answer homework problems in class. He watches the cloc
I enjoyed this class and was surprised I did well. It was probably the most challenging class I've ever taken. I thought Brad was funny, but his humor is not for everyone. Out of the 40+ that started the class only 10 showed to take the final. No mercy, if you're failing he doesn't care. I would only take his class if you're good at math.
Just need to say - If you don't go to class and don't do the homework then you deserve what ever grade you get. He helps you when you need it. I enjoyed this class a lot.
Gotta go to class to even come close to enjoying it. He will help you if you need help, just ask! very good and teaching, enjoying the class so far
Well his class is very boring he himself has no interest in math. He knows his math so when it comes teaching the class it's noticeable he's over it and rambles on while the entire class is lost. He stands in front of every problem and doesn't discuss it with the class
I dont know why everyone is hating on Krein. I liked his stats class and thought he taught it very well. If you pay attention and do the work his quizzes and test are pretty easy. He grades fair, but definitely not hard. I would take him again.
Krein is not an easy instructor. He is sometimes disorganized but is happy to clear any confusion--the burden is on you. An A in this class will reflect you understand the class very well. His tests closely match what he teaches. He is competent and only respects students that are willing to meet him half way towards their education.
krein is a good guy... not a good teacher. this is the only class i ever withdrew from - after 90% of the class dropped. he pulls numbers out of nowhere, his reasoning is fast and scattered, and his instructions are vague. although his notes look just like the hw... you dont UNDERSTAND the material so you flunk on the tests.
Brilliant & funny guy... but the WORST professor I have EVER experienced. His lectures on the board were riddled with inacuracies! At the end he would announce he had made mistakes & then just move on, leaving you to find them later & rewrite your notes if you want to be able to ever reference them again. Tests were unclear & confusing. Stay Away!!
He is the worst professor i have had in a while. Talk about killing dreams. Teaches straight from the book, if you miss a class you didn't miss anything. Clarity none, if English is your second language i advise stay away. Does one example then expects you to do all the problems which are different from his examples. Funny guy and great character
Good instructor. If you need help - very helpful. If you attend class you will do well.Funny
He is the worst math teacher in the department. His lectures are incomprehensible. Krien has no understanding of how to teach and I'm not sure he knew the material. The test are incredibly random and hard. If you received and A in your first two semesters of Calculus be prepared to fail his class. As students practically failed due to poor teaching
His lectures are entertaining, as he is a very comical guy. He's also actually quite good at explaining concepts during his classes. He's not going to hand out an "A", so expect to work your ass off to earn the good grade, which will show you proficiently understand the material. There are some better math professors, but Krein is great overall.
Lectures are disorganized, writes problems on the board without explanation. 8-problem exams that cover multiple chapters, very difficult to pass, there are no study guides. Learning new material up until the class before exams, never takes time to review. Assigned labs are ridiculous. Sarcasm makes it obvious that he is uninterested in math.
Very witty and charming guy. He understands the material he teaches, however he is not the greatest math teacher. He explains some topics well and others poorly. No past exams given. His exams seemed to be created through a random process and were 7-8/10 in terms of difficulty. You will learn Calc but there are better teachers.
Great professor! Very clear and patiently answers all students's questions. Do the work and seek a tutor in the math learning center if you need extra help. Math isn't easy for every one and Krein does the best he can to meet students halfway. Do extra problems in the book for more practice.
This guy is awful. The averages on his tests are in the 50's and 60's. He doesn't give partial credit. I have been going to a tutor who says she his tests are ridiculous and the way he grades. Avoid him at all costs.
he is a nice and funny guy so this makes it easy to go to class. but he doesn't explain the material in very understandable way. the quizzes and final are hard. if this is your first time taking stats, I don't entirely recommend it unless u are prepared to work hard. really cool guy though! very likeable and tells funny jokes!
Likeable guy, horrible professor. Races through the material, hardly goes over any examples in class, and does not explain concepts well. Exams weren't extremely difficult but there was never a passing average. Avoid at all costs!
Don't let all the negative comments fool you, Brad is a great teacher and I enjoyed his class a lot! But you will only get an A if you give the class the time and attention it requires by coming to class every day, doing the homework, and studying before exams. He doesn't collect homework, but there are quizzes every monday to keep you up to speed.
Brad explains concepts in ways that make them confusing. If you have questions, he acts like you are wasting his time. His tests and quizzes are intensely hard and written badly. You are graded only on tests, quizzes and two small assignments. His grading is harsh, you either get full points or zero on problems, no partial credit.
Brad is the man if you are willing to work hard. His test are difficult and along with the weekly quizzes are your entire grade. If you are looking for an easy class avoid it. If you want to learn the material inside and out this is your class. He is willing to help and a nice guy. I would take another class with him forsure.
Alright people, so if you're not a math wizard, expect to put some work in, and I mean a lot. The dude teaches fast, so if you don't understand what he just explained, then raise your hand and ask. As for his grading, he is very meticulous/precise about the format "he wants". So take good notes on how he wants things done. Hard, but rewarding.
I cannot agree with those who find Brad to be an acceptable teacher for higher division math courses. He has difficulty pacing his class, he is poor at teaching the material and he is condescending to his students. He is the type of professor who assigns tremendous amounts of homework and doesn't provide any form of study suggestions if asked.
Unfortunately, this class was a nightmare for me and most my classmates. Brad's lectures were very fast paced, and difficult to understand. He would make mistakes fairly regularly during lecture, and had to be corrected by students. His response was typically something sarcastic about how "we knew what he meant". Tests were impossibly difficult
Krein is a great teacher with a good sense of humor that I don't think everyone gets. A lot of students seem not to like him and think he doesn't care about his students' success, but if you do what you're supposed to do an A is very attainable, and he is always open to questions. He explained tabular integration to me on his lunch break.
I have taken 5A&B and received A's in both. So i was fairly confident for 5C. I am not a slacker student my overall gpa was a 3.9 but after kreins class it has dropped to a 3.75. I received a C. Many people faileddropped the class. we asked him how to prepare for tests he said im a hard tester deal with it stop (bword). My advice AVOID KREIN.
Hardest class! I have taken most calc classes at Cabrillo and have gotten fairly good grades in all of them, but this class was not one of them. Krein goes at such a fast pace and expects you to know everything he is taking about, not helpful at all, and his lectures are extremely boring. No quizzes, only test, so there is no room for error. AVOID!
I just started taking Math 12 with this guy, and don't get me wrong, he's a very entertaining and funny person. But as a professor, he is definitely not my favorite. Goes at a fast pace. Doesn't collect homework, so tests and quizzes in Stats are pretty much the only grade you'll get. If you're not a good test taker, avoid Krein at all costs.
Brad is a great guy but his attitude toward Calculus is too casual for me, he seems to forget that the material is new to most and is extremely intimidating. He just touches on concepts and then says, "Easy right?"... NO its NOT!!!
I'm so confused by these ratings. Maybe this is only the case for math 7, but Brad is the best math teacher I have had. He explains things very well, using intuitive analogies. He is willing to answer any question, even if unrelated to the class. Brad pushes you to your limits, which is so beneficial in the long run.
You cannot expect to take his class and learn the material well with his lectures alone. You will have to read (and note-take) from the textbook as well. He was happy to answer questions during office hours. The amount of stuff he expects you to have committed to memory for the final is ridiculous. Nice guy overall, but very challenging.
Given life experiences I had - ranging from deaths in the family, deaths of beloved dogs, losing a job - I was lucky to have this instructor. Material is tough - as higher-level math, can't be expected to be easy. Questions answered thoroughly in class, office hours available for help. NOT easy A, slackers won't pass, but well worth taking.
I enjoyed being in his class cuz he's really funny But, I AM WARNING YOU that it will be very difficult for you if you are the type to rely on the book because of the way he quizzes and tests you. To succeed in his class, PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS take notes. Always ask him to go over some Hw problems and do the Hw following his steps! this will help.
Brad is a nice guy, but in my opinion a sub par professor. He assigns a lot of homework. His notes are awful. He goes through them really quickly and he will give you the bare minimum of what you need and just pulls easy examples from the textbook. His tests are brutal, you wont pass if you dont study for them, guranteed.
I liked Brads classes, but he has a reputation of being hard for a reason. I worked my ass off for my As. If you love mathimatics and are not work shy you will be better at it when you are done his class then others cause of how hard he works you. If you're even a little lazy dont take him. I think he's easier on stats but its alot for non math ppl
Seriously, if I can get through this class, anyone can. Math has always been difficult for me regardless of the teacher. I thought this class was challenging but the students getting A's around me probably didn't think it was as hard. Do your homework, ask him questions, you have to try. Brad is kind, funny and a guy that really loves math!
Brad is hilarious! You must attend class in order to fully understand the material. He gives homework which he doesn't collect nor grade-it's up to you to decide whether or not to do it. The final is comprehensive and he doesn't give out a study guide. There's quizzes every week and no extra credit. He's a great professor and can be tough!
Brad is probably one of the smartest teachers you will ever have. Tons of homework, but if you take time to do it well you will be prepared for the exams. Test questions are very similar to examples done in class and/or homework problems. The man should have his humor card revoked though, he is not funny.
Terrible lecturer. Introduces concepts by diving into applications rather than explaining the concept. only 15 items make up your grade 5 Tests 10 quizzes. Quiz every Monday get ready to spend your weekends studying.
His lectures are super boring. You have a quiz every monday, 3 midterms and a final.
Brad Krein is a chill teacher. He goes out of his way to explain the material. The material is difficult and there is a lot of homework but if you do the homework it turns into knowledge of the concepts. He is caring and respectful but it's easy to get lost just listening to the lectures which requires more time outside of class studying.
I really struggled in this class, not because Brad was a bad lecturer, but because I didn't put in the time. He patiently answered all questions during class, meticulously went over tests and quizzes, and was really available outside of class both in the STEM center and his office. He understands and loves calculus, and will meet you halfway.
Brad is the best Math teacher at Cabrillo if you are willing to put in the necessary effort. He has a reputation for being tough, but if you go through the examples he does in class, you will actually understand the material instead of just memorizing and regurgitating it. His tests are fair and he doesn't give an overwhelming amount of homework.
He always try's to make sure you really know the work and will give examples to break it down for you. Very approachable and patient; bring humor into the lesson to make it fun.
Brad can be humorous at times which makes the class feel more alive. However, I cannot learn from him. His lectures copy the textbook directly. Basically, you can read the textbook and it's the same experience. He doesn't give many examples to help understand the problems.
Not an easy A, not even an easy B, definitely a work hard kind of class. But, I still really enjoyed it. Krein's got personality, and though he goes by the book in his teaching he's open to answering questions (from homework and in class). He is reasonable in keeping the grading fair, but don't expect his exams to be easy. Don't skip studying!
Brad is an excellent teacher who genuinely wants you to succeed. Do not be afraid to ask questions if you do not understand something., he is patient and is always willing to help you out. He gives great feedback if you are willing to ask for it and is very fair when it comes to grading. 10/10 would recommend him as a teacher to anyone.
A hard class. But hey, it's math, what can you expect. Brad is an excellent prof. The test isn't easy, but you learn a lot from the class than an easy-A prof. Take his class, study and ask him questions, he is kind and approachable.
Brad is a nice guy and he tries to crack jokes with the class but honestly hes not a good teacher. All his examples come straight from the book and will barely explain the bare minimum and expects you to pass his class. He has no study guides, lectures are tedious, and assigns an excessive amount of hw. Honestly nice guy but subpar teacher :/
His class is challenging but he is happy to answer any questions & help. He also has a good sense of humor so class isn't serious & intense. Every Monday hw is due from the week prior & there is either a quiz or test (3). He does not provide study guides, allow cheat sheets. But if you put in the time, effort & do your work you will pass.
Brade is a nice guy his class is actually entertaining but the class is way too hard. More than half the class dropped after the first test. Unnecesarily hard with grades dont take the class if you havent taken stats before.
I had Brad for two semesters and honestly learned so much from him. Its true his class is not easy, but if it was do you really learn much? Homework is due on mondays so you can always put it off until the weekend. Before Exams he always goes over what topics will be on the exam, so while he does not provide a study guide you know what to expect.
Professor Krein's teaching is thorough and he is more than willing to clarify any questions asked by a student. If you stay up to date with the material you will find his class very enjoyable. Krein's tests are rumored to be hard, what makes them hard is not the material but the fact that there is no study material besides the hw.
Brad was not the best statistics teacher. He is kind and understanding if you communicate with him and show that you are putting in the effort. I think his teaching style didn't mesh well with the students because about half dropped out by the end of the semester. Pay attention, take detailed notes, and don't be afraid to sit in the front.
You need to be ready to work and study HARD for this class. You will not pass if you dont study for tests. Your grade is based almost entirely off of your 3 midterms and final. There is no extra credit. That being said, he does give generous partial credit as long as you show your work. If you want an A in this class, get ready to grind.
Definitely tough but very FAIR exams! If you study what's covered in lecture you'll do well. He's accessible for office hours and questions, wants you to do well. I always enjoyed going to class. But you won't be able to easily get an A or a B, you have to put in the time. Never once felt like his exam questions came out of nowhere
Brad is hilarious and has great lectures, he assigns a fair amount of homework but it definitely manageable if you stay on top of it. Would recommend if you're genuinely interested in math.
Krein is not easy to follow in lecture for me. After a couple weeks of zoom classes I stopped attending and decided it was far more beneficial to read the textbook. He is known for hard tests and certainly lives up to that. If you take him without an accommodation don't expect to finish the exam in time.
Brad is entertaining and concise. He delivers unequivocal information as a result of his holistic knowledge of mathematical concepts and procedures. His lectures aren't laborious and flow freely. Punctually, Brad shows up to class right on time despite the new learning platform. Understanding incipient lectures is pivotal to succeeding in class.
Brad is not a respectable person. Lacks empathy, lectures are not helpful at all (that's why nobody shows up), tests are extremely difficult given the time constraint. You start to grow a deep hatred towards him throughout the semester. If I had to take this class again, I would drive 100 miles everyday to take it somewhere else. Terrible person.
Brad gets to the point, has plenty of examples, is humorous, and explains the material well. Tests are a big part of this class, but they were fair. He grades them fairly, emphasizes material that's relevant, and asks questions that are in the homework. My only complaint is that two tests felt a little time constrained. Great teacher overall.
online format is terrible. Worst professor I've had dealing with the online transition.
Took Brad for 5C and Math 6, challenging teacher but FAIR. Pushes you to understand the material, not for the faint of heart but if you enjoy math and like a challenge Brad is your guy. I love his sense of humor, he always seemed excited to help in office hours. Does lecture directly from the textbook, tests are long for time constraint.
Wasn't TOO difficult. Krein teaches well, he's organized, and clearly states expectations for tests. However, there are daysss of hw, I mean I was staying up till like 2 am trying to finish it sometimes :( If ur super busy I wouldn't rec bc the hw was important to do well on tests, which are most of ur grade Cool dude tho,I still liked the class :)
Took math12 honors so we had additional assignments but workload was very manageable. Wrote his own free textbook that had lots of examples. Really helpful lectures and open to questions, easy to talk to in office hours, really funny! Tests were on exactly what he emphasized in class. 10/10 would recommend. Fave math teacher at Cabrillo
Tough, stressful, yet mostly fair exams (almost the entire grade) that usually reflected homework (always gave generous partial credit). Extremely funny and generally good lecturer, but was often too derivative from book examples and lacked context/explanation. Accommodating (and always in office during OHs) but lacks empathy. Prepare to grind.
Prof. Krein really wanted me to pass but I truly do not understand statistics at this point. He exclusively does lectures which doesn't work for me but even after getting all D's on his MANY exams, he was still willing to help me pass. I still didn't :/ no hard feelings but I'm never taking stats again in my life. Non-stem majors: beware.
Brad is a great teacher and a funny guy; his lectures are direct and there is thankfully no classwork, group work, etc. Calc I might be hard if you are not great at math, but the quizzes/exams are pretty fair. Homework will take a long time to complete but what do you expect, this is calculus!?? If you need help youtube is your friend, good luck
MATH12STATS isn't the easiest, but Prof. Krein is understanding if you put in the work. Study with Unstuck study and the textbook, and you can do well - just don't expect an A without effort.
I took Brad's 5B last fall. His grading is 3 tests each 20% of your grade, 1 final (30% of your grade) & homework worth 10%. No extra credit. He's does give partial credit. All the exams are based off the hard homework problems with no freebie questions. His lectures aren't always engaging and he often gets stuck on problems for over 10 minutes.
Quite a tough math professor. No quizzes, no study guides, and lots of homework (I mean entire odd sections each week, more then 12+ hours). You have zero clue as to what will be on the exam, only that its most likely homework questions (of which there are a lot). You pretty much have to know and remember how to do every single homework question.
He does not fully explain the material during lectures, you 100% have to spend hours outside watching online lectures/ reading from textbook. Often lectures are hard to understand and follow.
Brad is by far the worst math instructor at Cabrillo. 5C is a very tough class, but he makes it extra difficult. Be prepared for lengthy exams with minimal time. The lectures are hardly worth attending since all he does is even problems from the book. He makes many mistakes when doing problems and never owns up to them. Hopefully he retires soon.
The class was hard but he was a fair grader and he rounded up our grades at the end. Can't really complain. Also a big thank you to Derek the TA for his review sessions.
enough with the brad slander, his lectures were clear, he owned up to every mistake (of which there were few), he answered every question that was asked, he even stopped and pushed us to ask questions when we looked confused, he had office hours nearly every day. the class does go fast, dont let hw pile up and ask for help when you need it!
Everyone at Cabrillo will visibly grimace and tell you not to take Krein. I tried to explain all the awkward and unwelcoming ways he conducted class that made my experience difficult, but I kept hitting the word limit. If you're a strong math student, you can take Krein, but if you need a modern, welcoming, and supportive teacher, don't.
Brad pushes you to really understand the material. He's very open to answering questions mid lecture. He can be very blunt but he always gives clear and straight forward answers and he never makes fun of you for asking. Be prepared for a LOT of homework every week and putting in extra time to study before every test.
Krein was a really tough professor, but as a math major, I enjoyed how deeply he delved into the content. His exams are hard, but he grades them VERY nicely (lots of partial credit). Ask lots of questions and make sure you UNDERSTAND (don't just memorize the formulas), and you'll be fine! He also doesn't give study guides for exams, so be prepared.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Can't even believe this guy makes money doing this. He is clearly just collecting paychecks. Will assign 100 problems week before exam, won't tell you what exam is on. condescending and have watched him just give up on problems? then will give even harder problem on his exam? that he could barely solve? wild experience.
This was one of the best professors ive had! He taught statictics in depth and if you have questions he takes his time to explain them. He gives a lot of homework, but all has to do with what you learned in class. If you want to do good in his class you will, but if you arent going to put in the time in to this class it will be difficult for you
Funny and approachable. Homework and lectures cover most of test, but some stuff is from the textbook. Watch out for obscure textbook problems. He's happy to slow down and explain something, but only if you ask him questions (if you take him you'll know what I mean). Derek is a great TA and massively helpful, definitely go to his study sessions.
