Very professional, excellent at introducing students to challenging material.
holds great discussions
Excellent in explaining topics and very good discussions
A great teacher.
Know his stuff...participate and he will like you...keep up with the many readin
Excellent class
Great professor, although the subject (capitalism) is very boring.
A good guy, hard worker, easy to relate to, dedicated professor.
The professor was a very nice guy; the class was light. You don't need to read all the the material to do well in the class. The selected materials were very interesting. I highly recommend this class
egotistical personality hinders learning environment. not very helpful, OK discussions. the topic could be made much more interesting if he wasn't the professor

Excellent teacher. Great readings for the class. Good discussions. Fair, but not easy grader.
lively discussions, difficult readings, accessible prof.
Very cocky, does not know how to teach english. I strongly advise you not to take any class from him.
This professor is fair and committed. Those who say otherwise are simply too insecure to accept truthful criticism.
This class was a lot of work, but I found it to be very interesting as well (Capitalism & Democracy). The title didn't suit the material, but that was certainly not his fault. Assignments tended to be open-ended. He is a very fair grader!
Nah! This guy was lazy; he even used the old syllabi. Very stingy grader. Impossible one to get an A from him.

Pretty fair grader, no stress class, very laid back, good summer professor, prompt with grading
He was a horrible teacher. He tried to sound really smart, but often made mistakes in his statements. He wanted everyone to write their papers on the same things, and didn't like when your opinion deviated from his. He wouldn't give A's on papers, didn't ever give any explanations of what was wrong.
Wouldn't recommend him at all. His cockiness definitely hindered the learning environment. Didn't show up to office hour meetings. Rude and unhelpful. Very interesting subject matter though. Got a B+ in his class and an A in WR 150 and I didn't improve THAT much!
Is clearly not interested in teaching the students. Some days he would completely zone at during discussion then give what he thought and that was that. I got a B on every paper whether I spent time on it or not, i definitely do NOT recommend him.
Mr. Queen is very ineffective at teaching. His writing course fails to teach students how to write. I received an A in this class with no effort at all. I should have improved my writing ability, but I felt as though my ability remained stagnant throughout the course.
good writing class for engineers. you will get a b on every paper despite the effort you put in it. Nice guy
Never could figure out what he wanted in papers; his grading was very unclear. Your grade didn't seem to have any relationship with the quality of the paper. We never actually learned any writing skills, either.
Prof. Queen was one of the best professors I’ve ever had. I had an outstanding semester in his class. He doesn’t give into the man’s **** like most other professors will, and he truly rewards effort in his class. He is fair, and does not give you C’s like some ignorant grad student. Got an A-
An arrogant man who is very little help in class and visiting office hours is a waste of time. It seems he randomly assigns arbitrary grades and makes little substantial comments on your papers. His "final comments" are always roundabout and entirely useless. He taught very little about how to improve writing and focused more on his own tastes.
SO arrogant, asks you to come to office hours but then doesn't talk about anything, plays favorites, and basically makes you feel like an idiot if you say something he doesn't agree with. Oh, and the one book we read had nothing to do with the course. Avoid him at all costs.
i hATEDDDDDDD this class and the prof. so hard to understand, no organization, no method, comments on papers are very minimal and hard to read. i don't know why he has this job.
This class rocks. Professor's organized and efficient. All my papers were graded within three or four days and had typed comments a the end.
My favorite class. Professor Queen's really smart and cute too. I wrote my paper on femininty in America and loved it. He grades fairly. I highly recommend this course. He won't kiss your bum.
I dug this class. Professor Queen pushed me. he said my grade was mine to earn rather than his to impose on me. he's fair, consistent, and wicked smaht.
Good professor, cares a lot about the success of his students. Has a sense of humor, and does try to make class interesting. I like that he doesn't impose his opinions in a discussion class, lets us do the talking and learn stuff for ourselves. He was fair with the grades. Overall, a great teacher.
Queen is very knowledgable about the subject, a fair grader, helpful with comments on papers, and a pretty cool guy. Don't listen to the other commenters, all of the books read in WR 100/150 are relevant to the class...and as for Queen being "arrogant," he's funny arrogant, not an ****. Overall Good Class!!
Dr. Queen is a passionate, knowledgable, and competent teacher. His reading material is both interesting and well chosen. If he's difficult on his students at (appropriate) times, it's because he genuinely cares about their intellectual development and understands that his courses should function as an instrumental part of their instruction.
Professor rocks. This class can be hard at times. He made me understand when I was writing well and why, at times, my writing fell below my potential.
Good class. He's well-organized. I like the website alot. Discussions particularly lively.
Discussions rock. Professor's knowledgeable and grades fairly.

Dr. Queen is enthusiastic in the classroom and helpful in office hours. He chose interesting and insightful texts, and encourages discussion among students. Definitely worth taking this class.
Cute and smart. Helpful and patient. Good readings and a challenging class.
Excellent writing professor. Truly wants his students to succeed. Sometimes assigned reading can be daunting, but he schedules in some catch up days. He plays devil's advocate during discussion, livening up the discourse. Go to office hours to run ideas by him. He lets you know exactly where you can improve and types up comments for every paper
I really enjoyed this class and the prof. Learned a ton about my writing and American culture.

You need to take Professor Queen
an excellent professor. critical but extremely helpful. my writing has improved tenfold this semester and the topics were fascinating. just be ready to take the heat.
Really thorough grader. His comments are extremely helpful, and he does everything to help the student suceed in the class and in their writing. He's funny, but be prepared to take a little heat for your writing or ideas. Respects his students, but expects a lot out of them. Challenging, but rewarding class.
You definitely have to keep up on the readings, he can tell if you've done it and is not afraid to call you out if you haven't. My writing improved significantly from his coaching though, and his comments are helpful. Plus, you can write about any topic you want. Despite the heavy workload, the class was one of my favorites.
Excellent professor and class.
I mean... in terms of writing, it's extremly personal. Beware! taking his class is like joining the army. Be ready for some tough training. Although you'll be a better writer, I'm not so sure if everyone can take the heat. He's one of those professor who want to teach for the sake of giving mean comments to students. Becareful if you take his class

Queen was one of the worst professors I've had at BU. Every lecture was essentially the same and Queen clearly did not want to be teaching a WR 150 class. He would only leave comments on the first and last pages of papers and the comments he wrote were copied-and-pasted (many people received identical comments). Don't take Queen!
I loved this class and the discussions. He rarely lectures, not sure what the previous person's talking about. He wrote many comments helpful comments to me and the typed comments at the end really guided my revisions. I'm a better writer now, and he was really fair with me. Take Queen! Don't listen to the bitter ones!
A very good class, I worked hard for a B+ but learned a lot. Also, I felt like the prof really wanted us to learn and his comments on my essays were very specific...he's not so much into grammar, but I got a lot of very helpful comments about arguments and research, and my writing (and thinking!) is much better now.
Great professor, really wants students to do well. Keep up with the readings and you'll be fine. There is a good bit of work for the class but I've heard of other WR150 classes being much worse. Not overly concerned about grammar which is a plus.
We did grammar alot and this class was very hard, especially some of the legal theory. But the professor's helpful. I really liked the discussions; he leads great discussions. An excellent seminar.

This was a great discussion class. The reading load is heavy: about a book a week, plus secondary articles analyzing the books. Participation in discussion important. A surprisingly easy grader on papers. This is a very philosophical, heady class. Sometimes I wasn't sure what we were supposed to be learning, but it was fun.
Great professor and even nicer guy, really wants students to learn. Pretty heavy reading load, but I learned a lot. Feedback on papers was specific and helpful.
Brad Queen is probably the best teacher I have ever had. He is incredibly helpful and really cares about his students. He is soooooo smart - he knows something about everything! And he is a really fair grader. His feedback is really helpful, especially when you write the revisions. Go to his office hours!! He'll tell you exactly what he wants!
Prof. Queen's intelligence makes this class. The reading load is heavy, and it must be done for discussion.
He is uptight and cares more about you following his policy than actually learning something in his class. He requires office hour meetings, and then only meets with you for about 5 minutes, so you don't feel like he cares about you. It was my least favorite class taken at BU.
Really nice professor who actually cares (i think). Heavy reading load but I feel like my writing and reading comprehension has improved. Class recommended.
Brad Queen is the man. He is absolutely the best teacher, let alone professor, I have ever had and he is the most enthusiastic and engaging person you'll ever want to be around. And he's suuuper fine...
Fun class, mostly good readings. Learned a lot about culture topics I'd never thought about before. Prof Queen is allergic to A's, but runs a good discussion.
Prof Queen can come off as a drill Sargent, as he speaks in phrasing you can't understand, has strict deadlines, can be really inconsiderate and such. But, he did teach me a lot. I learned good skills but im not sure it was worth the slight pain of this class. he makes himself seem understanding and helpful but that he is not. I wouldnt do it again
queen was at first a pain but now i really see how he wants us to succeed. it can be rough but hes a great guy
Took this class as a freshman, and have to admit I found Prof. Queen intimidating at first. The class was engaging and none of the readings were superfluous. He can really help improve your writing; he might be a critical grader but he is fair. Just be prepared to take full responsibility for your own success.
Great professor, great discussions and learning material. One negative is that I feel that he makes this class a bit too complex and difficult for a 200 level. As a student in SMG while I find the material interesting, I find myself not as educated as other students who are majoring in Am. Studies. Reading can be overwhelming but you just gotta f
Good class. A pretty heavy workload but I learned a lot and my researching skills are definitely much better. Helpful in office hours. He will very clearly explain how to improve your work.
Professor Queen does intimidate me a bit, but he's awesome! I find that my writing skills have greatly improved and he really does want his students to do well.I LOVE HIM
Proffessor Queen is one of the best writing or english teachers I have ever had. I got my first A on a paper with him. He grades very fairly, if he sees you have put in effort, he will give you a good grade. Office hours with him are a blessing. One of my favorite teachers to date. Makes class interesting and is extremely supportive.
He is kind of annoying. He calls on people on the spot so make sure you know something about every reading he assigns. He assigns a lot of reading but its not really necessary to read it in full unless its going to be something you're writing about. He is encouraging but kind of awkward. He is definitely allergic to As (though not A-).
Umm, he's hot. But more importantly, he is an inspiring, challenging teacher. I definitely recommend him for any WR course.
Writing class on the First Amendment, but all we really seemed to do was peer review. Professor Queen treats the class as if it was in high school and assigns readings that the class summarizes popcorn style in class. While I like the subject, I couldn't stand the professor.
I liked this class because it was more like a workshop. Prof Queen didn't lecture at us, he had us figure things out for ourselves and devoted a lot of time to us figuring out how to make our own writing and arguments better. Just be forewarned that you will have to put a lot of work in and sometimes the material is really difficult.
My favorite prof. He's really easy to talk to. I think I learned more in this class than I have in all my previous writing or English classes put together.
Queen is the best professor I have come across at BU so far. Its not because he is extremely easy or something like that, its because he is fair. He loves the topic he is teaching and you can tell he loves to teach. its not an easy A. you have to work for your grade but he gives you the grade you deserve. take if you like the subject matter.
Disregarding the superfluous nature of this UHC requirement, Prof. Queen consistently talked down to students. Perhaps because the students are in UHC, he seems to feel the need to humble, patronize, and condescend to his students. While the class is not particularly difficult, he will regularly change his syllabus and disrupt the schedule.
I had Prof. Queen for both semesters of the studio. I found him to be always helpful and constructive in his feedback. He clearly enjoys teaching us. He planned the second semester in two parts to respond to our needs, since the writing portion started seven weeks into the spring semester. I learned alot.
Great guy. Work you put in was the grade you got. Always encouraging and engaging.
Prof Queen really wants his students to do well. Grades fairly and judges by final product as well as the amount of work and effort put into it. His lectures have nothing to do with the papers and assigns a lot of reading that might not pertain to your paper topic. Overall, hes a nice guy and easy to talk to in office hours.
I took Mr. Queen's First Amendment WR150 course and absolutely loved it! The professor is so helpful and reaches out to his students to help them. Although some of the readings are difficult, students have the freedom to choose paper topics -literally whatever you want to write about, he'll love it! He is so eager to make sure his students succeed!
Queen is the greatest human that has ever inhabited the face of the earth. I loved him so much, and everyone should have him. But he's leaving so sorry
Easily the best Writing Professor EVER. He's clear and explicit when it comes to voicing his expectations, and he's fully dedicated to helping his students get the A. If you put in a lot of effort, he said the lowest you can get in his class is a B+. But he's a great teacher. You'll learn a lot from B. Queen. TAKE HIM.
Okay, so he doesn't actually teach at BU anymore, he's a prof/head of writing department at UCI. He's really good BUT he assigns a lot of work and the majority of it is ungraded which feels like a waste of time but is part of "the drafting process". He gives a lot of pep talks and is, overall, a great professor though.
