Great professor! Dr. Swiger makes difficult concepts easy to understand. It's a lot of material so review daily. If you fill in the study guides he gives you, you should ace the test. overall loved the class.
Super hard class, not a very good teacher at all. He's strict as if this is a high school class (no water, phones, etc) Study guides are 150 questions long for a 50 question test. Wish there was another option for Anatomy teachers, but he's it and if you have to take this class, well good luck.
Dr. Swiger is a great professor. Anatomy is hard in general but he makes concepts easier to understand. If you go to class and study like you're supposed pulling an A or B out of this class can be easy. A lot of information on the test were things he went over in class. He gave a lot of extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester!
Dr. Swiger is an amazing professor! He is very knowledgeable and explains the material thoroughly. He will answer any questions you have. This class does require a lot of studying but I attended lectures and studied his slides and made a B without studying days in advance. A&P is a difficult class but he does an excellent job. Study study study!
Dr. Swiger is an excellent professor that makes concepts easy to understand. It is a hard class and you must study daily, but an A+ is possible. Review the study guides, even though they are long, and attend the exam reviews. I studied an hour each night and endlessly before exams, and recieved a 95% or higher on each exam. It is what you make it.
I barely got an A. I mostly used the slides to do the LONG study guides. This was the easiest way for me to learn the material & not as boring as just reading the book. Then, I would go back and study my own answers to the study guide. The figures are an easy way to help your exam grade. Lectures were helpful but I didn't find them necessary.
He's a great teacher! Very clear in his lecture and makes it interesting. You have to know your best study technique either reading the book, flashcards, or powerpoint slides. This class is hard in general with a lot of material to learn, but if you put the effort and time into studying you will get an A.
Dr. Swiger is awesome! He really does love what he does and it shows in his lectures. He always helped me when I was having a difficult time understanding a concept. Don't think that this class is easy because it is not. You cover a lot of material and need to put the effort in to get a good grade in this class.
Dr. Swiger is very passionate and knowledgable about what he does, and lectures are very closely related to what is on the exams. The exams are tough and parallel reading of the chapters in the textbook is mandatory if you want to make an A in his class, but he is always willing to help and he is definitely student success oriented.
Dr. Swiger hated our class because some people were really disrespectful, he ended up banning laptops. His lectures are straight from the power points so going to class was not always necessary. Study guides are ridiculously long and tests are very specific and hard. Prepare to study hard.
For an anatomy class, this is the weeding out course. The lectures go the full time, but all of the slideshows are on mastering. 4 tests including the final. Homework is a must. Do the study guides. All of it. 4 extra credit assignments at the end of the semester. He also helped bump my grade when I was borderline, and came out with a 80.2.
Dr. Swiger is an excellent instructor. I know I am better prepared after his classes (I had him for both A&P I and II) and will be a better clinician.
Dr. Swiger is AMAZING. His lectures are very interesting, and he stays on topic extremely well. His tests are fair and easy to pass if you study the chapters from the book. I feel like I will retain a lot of information from his class. I definitely recommend him for Anatomy and Physiology.
Swiger was ok. He gives a lot of homework, like every other day, and you have practice test every week, but he gives lots of drop grades. He cancels class occasionally and his lectures aren't boring, because he loves what he does, but don't mess with him because he WILL show his other side. He doesn't like cell phones, and rarely replies to emails.
Swiger should not be a Professor for Allied Health, period. At first I thought he was very nice. But he is not. Even the ones who come to class prepared has to endure his attitude and it really gets old. I seriously have no respect for him whatsoever. I don't recommend filling out his study guides bc I would say 25 % of his test comes random. 0/10
Lots of homework. All online though so pretty simple. He gives study guides for his tests and as long as you read through the powerpoints you'll be fine.
There really is no reason to attend the lecture, other than when he takes attendance with the iclicker, because all he does is read from the slides and those are provided to you. There is homework every night before lecture.
His tests were really tough! Study guides were super long and didn't help me that much. Please do all the homework and practice tests! It's a lot of questions, but you get graded for them and makes learning a little better. His lectures were very boring, I never learned anything from them to be honest.
His lectures are him just reading off the powerpoints provided, but you get an extra 2% added to your grade if you miss 6 days of class. The exams were not hard if you studied and used the practice quizzes/tests offered on MasteringA&P. A&P is a new topic, so get ready to read. He cares about his students and does not tolerate cheating.
He makes attendance mandatory. You HAVE to use the book. He assigns so much work but it can help your grade. He has a bad temper and is really strict about cheating so he will rant about that.
I really in enjoyed this class and Dr. Swiger is an amazing professor. He can explain all you need to know in depth and is very helpful. I would take him again if I could. Don't cheat! you will regret it.
Swiger is a great instructor for Anatomy, and infact the only choice for an anatomy 1 instructor during the Fall and Spring semesters.
A&P1 is super easy. Even the more difficult material can be aced on the exam if you study. I used the homework because a lot of the question material was similar to the stuff he asks on the exams. Swiger is very helpful but don't be distracting in class because he hates that and will call you out! Overall great professor. Wish I could take for A&P2
Hands down my favorite professor I've had so far at South. The material can be difficult, but he's really good about answering your questions and making sure you understand. Make sure you stay on top of your homework. I would definitely take him again.
Awesome for A+P1, gives extra credit if you come to class a lot. Pretty good lectures, lots of homework on MasteringA+P. Overall nice guy and good teacher, he knows his stuff
Great teacher! He is funny and very helpful. If I could take his class over I would. I am happy I got to go into this class. He gives up to 5 bonus points to your average at the end of the semester so just study the material and you'll make a good grade!
Took his class this semester, and he missed a lot. Understandable given his medical situation, however if you aren't good at teaching yourself it would be difficult. Test questions are specific and tough. Don't expect to get a good grade without putting in time and effort. Also, DON'T come to class if you're going to leave early. He'll call you out
I took his class this semester and the material is pretty hard but if you study hard enough he will be really understanding and try to help as best as he can. He also gives many bonus point opportunities. His tests are pretty hard but as long as you study all of the notes and study figures you should be okay!
He is a great professor. Easy to make an A if you do all the assignments (there is a lot). Gives some extra credit if you attend most classes and his tests are very straightforward. His lectures tell you what you need to know to do well.
Swiger is an over all good professor. He is a fair grader. His test are extremely hard. He gives out an excessive amount of homework. A&P is a difficult class as is, and Swiger is a very intense professor. Be ready to work.
Lots of HW, but you can find the answers on quizlet. Offers lots of extra credit and even dropped our lowest exam grade. Super nice guy!
He was one of the best teachers I have ever had. I actually understood because of the talent he has at explaining. Also, he dropped our lowest grade which helped me tremendously! Just make sure you do your homework, show up and do not be on your phone!!! He will kick you out of his classroom!
The class wasn't bad but his final exam was difficult. Instead of using the exact questions from his old exams, he decided to switch it up causing a lot of confusion. The only positive thing about his class is that he adds 2 extra points to attendance if you're there everyday.
He is very passionate about anatomy and physiology, which shows in his lectures. Even though attendance isn't mandatory going to class helps because he explains topics in detail and makes it easier to digest. Really cares about his student's success and understanding of the course.
Dr. Swiger is an amazing professor. He is the best lecturer I have ever had. There is a lot of homework, but it helps your grade. Exam 3 was extremely hard, so be prepared. He doesn't tell you this, but he drops one of your exam grades at the end. Final isn't bad at all.
Anatomy is pretty hard in general, Dr. Swiger's class is not too bad though. You have to study and put in the effort but he truly cares about his students & grades and is always available for office hours. He also drops a few of your lowest grades in each category which is super nice of him!
Challenging class. He was kinda flakey.
One of the best teachers I've had. Tests are hard if you don't take the time to study but overall they aren't terrible.
Swiger is a great teacher! Come to lecture & listen. A lot of what he tests on is from lecture slides & side comments in class. Do not sit next to your buddy if you tend to talk because he does not like to be disrespected. Overall, he answers questions very well and devotes a lot of time out of class to help students who need help! Would take again
He sticks close to his lectures for exams. He doesnt make it difficult to pass, you just have to make sure to read the material.
Don't skip his lectures; he tries to go into as much detail as possible within the small time frame we're allotted for class. He cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. That being said, don't try to contact him outside of class-it's basically impossible. He asks the first day of class that you don't contact him. 8/10 stars, I think.
Very good lectures but you have to pay attention. He's a pretty chill guy but gets very irritated if you leave class before lecture is over. Doesn't seem too strict about people being on their cell phones as long as it's not distracting him or other students.
Professor Swiger is very nice and is very helpful, but the class overall is difficult. He stands in front of the class and goes off of a power point. I personally didn't think the power points were helpful. The class consists of a lot of homework (40 something assignments) he drops 6, 3 exams (drops 1), a final, and pre & post lab quizzes.
What makes the class difficult is the fact that he will go over a chapter each week and only go over two sections out of four most of the time. You're left doing the other two on your own. Tests 1 through 3 are extremely easy because you can normally just get pictures of them. The final was extremely hard though because he changes the questions.
This was my favorite class by far. He was always available after class for any questions & would really go into depth to make sure you left with a clear understanding of it. Do NOT disrespect him & joke around with friends during lecture, he will throw you out because he cares about the students who really want to learn. Do the study modules!
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of Anatomy before Swiger. I really enjoyed his teaching and lectures. He requires true knowledge of the material, but honestly he's making sure we really learn it.I am taking him again for Anatomy 2 as well.
His class is an easy A. He cancels class a lot . Attendance not mandatory but does count 2% of your grade . Straightforward on the lecture material. Not accessible outside of class, doesnt answer email. Just study the figures and the powerpoints and the modules on Pearson and youll do fine
Swiger is overall difficult its just to much information for a just 50 question test, no study guide, and the PowerPoint are fill in the blank, will get mad because you dont know the boat load of material he covers, and very strict on his grading policy, no extra credit
I think professor Swiger is awesome and yes he is difficult but it really prepares you for the journey into hard medical programs. His lectures are packed heavy and keeping up with copying notes and listening at the same. time is hard but it's doable. DO your homework, be present and try and you'll do great.
He isn't really involved with students, he focuses on the teaching bit and that's really all. He interacts of course, but if you try to e-mail him you won't really get an answer. There is a lot of homework and his tests are difficult, he doesn't really give any decent form of study method other than show up for class.
His class is doable if you read the book and do the homework (there's lots of homework) Overall, his class can be boring sometimes and you go over ALOT of material. If you want to do well on his tests, do the study figures that he posts and go over the learning outcomes in the powerpoints. 2 point attendance bonus on overall grade.
Class is not mandatory but definitely will help. He DOES NOT put up with people talking or being on their phone during class. Tests are pretty hard depending on how much you study. Diagrams during lectures ALWAYS pop up on majority of the test. Very nice guy and handsome like a little elf you want to stick in your pocket. Cares about his students.
Dr. Swiger is a caring professor. He is lecture heavy and does not give any extra credit opportunities. Class attendance isn't mandatory BUT it will help on the tests. Take advantage of his office hours if you need help with anything!!!
Great professor! His lectures make studying and understanding 10x easier, so I highly recommend attending class. He takes attendance every class with clicker questions and drops your lowest test grade, homework grades, etc. Study the figures he gives you because those are easy points on the tests. Also, he likes the room cold so bring a jacket :)
He is not a bad instructor. My problem is that he is wishy washy. When classes had to go online, he told us that NONE of our following exams would be proctored. That helped take away from the added stress of the pandemic. Then, ONE week before the FINAL EXAM he decided to tell us it will be proctored. The exam is worth 25% of the grade.
His tests and grading criteria are fair. You get extra credit for just going to class.
His class was overall fair to me. You just have to study and study the colored words on his PowerPoints and diagrams as well. Also pay attention to the clicker questions cause you might see something similar to that on the test and if youre one point away from a higher grade he will bump you up. He bumped me up from a 79.88 to a B average!
Overall a good prof. He's good about providing examples and good at explaining difficult concepts. Focus on the learning objectives given at the beginning of each PowerPoint and diagrams (diagrams ALWAYS show up) when studying for tests. Gives lots of homework, which are good grade buffers, and bonus clicker questions. Would take again.
I took this class in Fall 2020. It was a remote course with weekly synchronous Zoom lectures/labs. Dr. Swiger is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was disappointed to find out that he wouldn't be teaching BMD252 next semester. He is clear in his lectures, provides studying materials, and typically offers an Exam review prior to the test.
Dr. Swiger is the best science-based prof I have ever had & is def my favorite! He really cares about his students and that is one of the qualities that makes him so approachable. You will pass if you pay attention & attend the exam review, those are very helpful. There is a lot of homework but it is a grade buffer. I really wish he taught BMD 252!
Took his online class, hes pretty neat. Didnt attend most lectures, still did well in the class. He did well despite going through a LOT with the pandemic and personal stuff. MyLab Mastering is used, dont guess itll knock your grades down hard. Lots of homework but its doable if you dont procrastinate until the last day of the semester.
Dr. Swiger is by far one of the best professors at South. He cares very much for his students and made adequate accommodations during the pandemic and hurricanes. Amazing person and professor!!
He is a great professor, but the exams are challenging so make sure you do the homework and the practice tests on mastering a&p. The class is difficult because it is a of information, not because of his teaching, so start studying as soon as you go over material in class.
Gives a good bit of HW but its needed to remember everything. The class itself is just a lot of information. His slides are awesome and he gives you access to them ahead of time, so you can actually listen instead of just writing notes the whole time. Easy to talk to if you have a problem with something. overall really good teacher.
I honestly expected anatomy to be a lot worse. You do have homework every week and he does lecture everyday. I really enjoyed this class and it was never a problem to go. He treats you with the same respect you treat him. As long as he can tell you are trying he is more than willing to help.
Dr. Swiger is probably the best professor on campus, Dr. Swiger is extremely nice and good at what he does. He doesn't just read from the powerpoint but instead adds more. If I could take him again I would in a heartbeat.
Amazing professor, has taught me a lot about the anatomy and physiology of the body. He posts lectures online if you cannot make it to class, gives good lectures and the homework and study modules help TREMENDOUSLY. You do have to actually study for the exams but overall 12/10 would take again.
He is a great professor and taught the course extremely well. There is a lot of homework but if you do it and actually try you will pass. There are study modules and they will carry you through the exams if you do them. Go to class pay attention and everything will go smoothly.
Tests are very hard and won't give extra credit. Has health issues a lot and skips class a good bit and will not take time to go back and review material that was missed while he was absent.
good class great teacher no extra credit and must attend for lab
LOVED SWIGER! Currently in BMD 252 with Ravine (I'm so stressed out rn) I'm so sad that I took Swiger for granted. Loved how he set his exams up. I only used the dynamic study modules to study and also the study figures (MAKE SURE TO STUDY THEM) they count for a lot points which is good because they're not too hard. Such a good professor! <3
amazing lectures he did mess up our grade book which lead to a lot of people's grades dropping drastically bc of his mistake but unfortunately, stuff like that happens. AMAZING lectures though leave you with no questions bc he covers every detail thoroughly he was made to teach I highly recommend him for this hard class.
Dr. Swiger is an amazing professor and passionate about teaching. He makes himself available outside of class for those with questions or who don't understand the material. Attendance is mandatory on test days & lab days but coming to lecture will help your grade. Overall, if you do well on the homework and on tests then you'll have a good grade.
He is an awesome professor , he truly cares about his students, and wants to see them thrive.
Dr. Swiger is a great choice for A&P. Use his powerpoints to review for exams (all material from exams are from powerpoints). He even shares figures that will show up on exams. You get one drop exam which can even be used on the final. Not an easy A, but if you try, it can be done. Stay on top of hw to not get overwhelmed.
Great professor. Pay attention to the lectures and the study figures. Cannot pass the class without studying.
His class is difficult simply because of the large amount of memorization. However, if you put in the work, it will be fine. He is also very willing to help when needed.
He was an amazing professor, his passion is there, and is always willing to help his students. Accessible outside of class.
Professor Swiger seemed very mean at the beginning but he was super cool, funny and understanding! He provides study figures for all exams! homework is pretty heavy! post/pre labs were quite easy! overall the class was fairly easy and I would def take him again.
I was scared going into this class, but Mr. Swiger is the best! You can tell he loves teaching and hes very kind. You need to study every day though and attend all lectures. Study the figures for exams!! The exams are difficult, but if you study and do the homework youll be fine.
Mr.Swiger is the best! You can tell he really cares about his students and he always wants to make sure he gets his points across. He is so good at explaining his work and is always offering to meet with anyone during office hours or even to answer questions after class. Highly recommend!!!!
Loved him! By far one of the best professors I've had. He actually cares and if you need help he will help you. You also have drop grades for every category of assignments. Wish I could take him for BMD 252. I will say though he isn't very good with communicating outside of class and takes a while to open emails. 10/10 recommend him though!
I would say I put minimal effort paying attention in lectures and more in studying in my own time. The attendance isn't "graded" per say, rather there are in-class questions. They aren't hard if you kinda know whats going on. If you put more effort into paying attention in class I think an A would be very attainable. Drop grades are a plus too!
Not a hard class but if you want an A you have to study. Hw every week that take long so plan for that. Test questions were hard but based on learning outcomes. He is a caring prof who will take time to review for the test and help you learn during office hours. Bad with emails but just see him in person. 5 drop hw, 4 exams including final, 1 drop.
I highly recommend this professor for this class. He is a great professor and you can see how passionate he is with each topic. He also drops 1 exam, 5 homework, and 2 quizzes. This isn't a class you can slack off on with studying.
Dr.Swiger is a decent professor. His lectures are not very easy to understand. You will have to study many hours everyday to stay on top of material. The best way to study is to read your online textbook and try to develop your own understanding of the topic.
Swiger was one of my good professors, he gives really good lectures and answers any questions you have. If you show up to class and study the week of the test, you will do well in this class.
During my semester, he was often sick, but when he was there he was a pretty decent professor. I would say just pay attention, and that there are a lot of quizlets out there to help out with exams. Memorize ALL the exam figures if you want to excel on exams though.
He was out for half of the semester, but other than that he's decent. Read off the slides for the most part but you still have to come to class for credit; which sucks. Exams are fairly easy if you study and A LOT of homework.
No extra credit. Drops 1 of 4 exams. Lots of hw & reading. Some of his exams are found on Quizlet word for word. Just study all material & know the figures by heart. He has health issues so he would cancel class a lot. You have a lab & are put into groups with others to answer questions. He is very sassy when provoked. Does not answer emails.
Swiger is a great professor. All of his lectures are covered in the homework due before each class. The material can be hard. If you want to pass, block off one week MINIMUM before each exam to study. Rewriting notes, the DSM's, and purpose games will be your best friend. I made A's on every exam. Multiple drop grades, doesn't respond to emails.
Material is challenging, but he covers everything in lecture that will be on the exams. He explains it really well, and gives extra tips like,"here is a mnemonic to memorize this" etc. I attended lecture consistently, took notes to stay awake and keep myself from getting distracted, and used purpose games to learn the study figures, and got an A.
You have to put in the work outside of class because he cannot lecture. He will go on and on about the same thing for 15+ minutes and wont even finish the chapter we were suppose to complete for the day and expects you to go home and learn it yourself. Overall very boring. You have 4 tests and get 1 drop grade.
