He's a bit fuddy duddy at times, but generally knows the material. Easy marker, looking for high school level performance.
Excellent professor!
A bit monotonous when lecturring but an excellent professor and easy marker.
Great Professor.
when asked to answer questions he was frazeled and unable to answer things other than the most basic, or things form his notes. Some of his comments on islam seemed dirogatory and he talked way to much about the women in the societies he lectured on
One of the best profs I've had so far. Very thorough and informative. Helpful, and an easy marker. He made the 3 hour classes bareable. I would definitely take another class with him.
Excellent professor. I have taken three Canadian history classes with him and while he lectures a little fast it is only because he packs so much information into his lectures. He is as approachable a prof as you will find on campus and even gives you his home phone number to reach him at. Great guy, fair marker, and very accessible.
Great prof. He is very systematic in his lectures so you always know what to expect. Leads good class discussions and structures them in such a way that they are actually helpfull. He actually made the 3 hour spring class fly by. Highly recomended
Great prof, you have to attend classes becasue he doesn't post his notes but its interesting to listen to so go! Very helpful in any way possbile, id highly recomend.
I enjoyed this class! The prof verbally says his notes, so you have to listen carefully, but he atleast has an outline of what he is going to talk about in the lecture so you know what to expect. Marks fair, just make sure your answers are detailed. He is willing to help you with any of your assignments too, so take advantage of that!
Very enthusiastic. Clear. Very organized lectures. And organized class discussion that really helps you to understand. Fair marker. And really helpful.
Was a really nice and approacable guy. Classes had a lot of matieral and were pretty much all notes straight through, but still made the material interesting. Was a fair marker, and gave a list of exam questions before hand so that you werent forced to study everything.
Good prof, interesting to listen to in class, but he didn't seem to know his outside materials very well and answered many questions he was unable to answer the next day. The exams were fair, and he had given us some prep materials also.
Best class all semester. He actually made it interesting to go. He doesnt put any notes on blackboard but when he is giving a lecture, he has a list of important words or names so it is easy to follow. Plus he talks slow enough that you can actually write stuff down. Just make sure you go to class and you will get a decent mark!
Very clear and concise. He outlines all the important things you should take from the lectures at the beginning of class, and he really prepares you for assignments and tests. He's a really fair marker, and if you slack off, he'll call you on it.
biggest sweetheart ever. incredibly approachable and is personally concerned for your success in class. highly recommended.
Outstanding prof. EXUDES professionalism, don't get psyched out by that-their not all like that. by far the best prof I've had in 4 years. had him in fall08, there was a student that 'got a little too excited', treated him kindly in telling him to not interrupt. he doesn't talk too fast, he pauses & thats + for note takers, thats very appreciated
Brad was an awesome professor! He was very knowledgable and easy to talk to. He was very clear about what he wanted from his assignments and was always willing to provide assistance. My hand always hurt after his class from taking all the notes, but he goes slow enough that you can follow him. Would definitely recommend him and the class!
He's not all that knowledgeable outside of Western Medieval Europe. An easy class to get an A in, but don't take his facts without verifying them yourself. Pauses dramatically after most words, but it makes it easier to take notes.
A very kind and thoughtful professor. He was the only professor who said that we did not have to call him such.
Great prof. Its can be hard to keep up with readings occasoinally, but overal, very good class. He even got nominated for a teaching excellence award. That's gotta say something about his teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed this class. He makes history interesting, which can be VERY hard to do. There is a lot of material to cover but he's a fair marker.
Brad is the best professor I have ever had. He is well-organized in his lecture notes and loves what he teaches. I strongly recommend getting him if you are taking a history course.
Awesome notes, awesome speaker, tells you exactly what is going to be on the exams and what to study for. Awesome guy!!!
Awesome prof for entry level course. he talks slow enough to write things down, and throws in the random dry joke to keep your attention. his exams were easy and he marks the papers fairly. Textbook is helpful- but not necessary. He has the sweetest christmas sweater so get in there!
Awesome professor. Lectures slowly and clearly. Marks the papers and exams very fairly. Material is actually relatively interesting. No need to buy the text. Has a good sense of humor as well. Highly recommend this class and professor.
I definitely recommend Rennie as a prof although I'm used to profs speaking at a quicker pace. He speaks extremely slowly and extremely clearly so it's impossible not to take good notes. It got on my nerves, but I'm sure it would be welcome to the majority of students. Essays marked fairly and exam prep gives you everything you need to get an A.
The biggest thing to know about Rennie is that you have to come to class. He doesn't post notes and expects you to know class info and text notes. That being said, he's a super nice guy, with a lecture style that is im-poss-ible *waves laser pointer* to miss notes from. I would recommend him.
Awesome professor. Lectures were a bit of a drag sometimes, but he does his best to keep the class involved. Tests and papers were marked fairly and had a lot to do with course material. No need for the textbook.
Attendance is mandatory, he doesn't post his slides anywhere. Lots of material that you must know for the tests. Tests have few multiple choice and a big component is written and difficult. Overall, I thought it was a pretty hard course for entry level. Don't take this class if you're not prepared to do several hours of reading everyday.
Great Prof, really knows his stuff. Has great discussions every class, so keep up with the readings. He will ask questions! Final is the exact same format as the midterm - only longer, but both were very easy!
He is a great teacher! His lessons are well planed & you always know what you are going to be covered. He speaks at a good speed & is easy to follow, so taking notes is easy. He speaks clearly as well. He responds to emails very fast & is VERY helpful. He is a teacher that truly cares about his students!!!!!!
I've taken 201 and now 307 with Brad and he doesn't disappoint!!! Loved every minute of lectures. Always organized and prepares you for the exams. Marks relatively fair. I would take another class with him in the future.
Rennie is a really memorable teacher. He knows his material and tries to engage with the class. Problem is, students are used to being anonymous, so few people respond to him. Sometimes he gets excited and his voice briefly sounds odd. Still, a very interesting class taught by a teacher who definitely should have tenure by now.
Great professor - very clear, know what you're learning about, very helpful. Agree with the person about people not wanting to comment, which made for some awkward moments. The occasional group work wasn't very useful, but overall, Brad's a great prof who definitely deserved tenure!
Class was pretty useless, gave topics before test but marks somewhat hard, alright class, good prof but could makes the class harder then it needs to be.
Brad Rennie is an AMAZING prof, one of the best I've ever had. He is friendly, polite, informal, helpful, interesting, and engaging. He makes class interactive and approaches history from a novel perspective. Helps a lot in preparing for the tests and paper, and is very approachable. If you do a reasonable amount of work it is EASY to do well!
Rennie is a really great professor. He is a good lecturer, a fair marker, and he's really helpful in telling you exactly what he wants on his exams and papers. Very open and friendly, I never enjoyed a history class so much!
A really nice prof, nice arguments and sees that history is a sequence of events, rather than just popping in and out of nowhere. Recomended
Brad is very nice and he was very dedicated to the class. I highly recommend him. My only complaint was that he wouldn't put the notes online so it was difficult to listen to him and copy down the notes at the same time. The class itself was pretty good, material was a little dry at points but overall it was quite interesting.
Dr. Rennie is the BEST history professor at the university of Calgary. His lecture are very enjoyable to liston to. he is very organized and his lectures are presented in a way that makes you never forget what he said. He does not want to trick students. his exams are straightforward and fair. Again, by far, in my opinion, Dr. Rennie is the best!
Rennie is a great prof. He's very organized and his lectures are enjoyable. My only complaint is that there is a very high emphasis on classroom participation/discussions and the final exam was incredibly difficult to study for.
Dr. Rennie is a fantastic Prof. He is very knowlegeable about his subject. Exams are very fair, and he often gives very clear instructions for exams before the date. He is approachable and marks very fairly. Readings and attendance in class are necessary, but well worth the work!
Super prof! very clear & helpful, always really clear about what to expect for exams and projects. Text book readings are required, but well worth it. Great experience overall!!
While immensely clear, his lecture style gets pretty annoying. Wastes a ridiculous amount of time on unnecessary group work. Take this course with someone else.
amazing prof. Really clear, enthusiastic and helpful. Take any class you can with him.
He is an excellent instructor that makes every lecture enjoyable, I loved his class. He does not mark that hard, just make sure you add stuff from the textbook into your exams. Final exam is a bit harder, but not impossible! Overall, very impressed!
By far one of the best professors I've had at UofC. He is very passionate about the material and is willing to bend over backwards to make sure a student does well in his class. He isn't a hard marker, but expects a lot out of the students so attend class and read the textbooks. I will definitely be taking another one of his classes.
Overall an excellent class. Dr. Rennie is very clear in what he wants, and his lecture slides are easy to follow. Highly recommended.
Professor Rennie is very clear about his expectations, he lectures incredibly slowly so its very easy to follow and he provides outlines for his lectures which help for studying for the exam. His exams are very easy, you basically have to copy down what he says in class and regurgitate it on the exam. no text book requires. awesome.
Rennie is a great lecuturer. I would advise attending his class because they are that interesting. He marks very easily, this course is an easy GPA booster.
best prof. all what i can say, HE IS THE BEST!
grades are so fair.he lectures slowly so its very easy to take note. there is too much text to read for exams but actually it's very easy. he is the best!
Brad is awesome and a really nice guy. His lectures are always interesting and he marks extremely fair on exams. He's also very humble and informal, so it's not intimidating at all. Highly recommended.
One of the best profs in the history department. Incredibly clear about his expectations and he obviously cares about the welfare of his students.
If he taught every course at the university, my gpa would be 4.0...yes he is that good and above all, wants everybody to do well, very helpful and humble. I love DR. Rennie!!!! Highly recommended!
Rennie- was NOT easy. He made things very difficult, was not helpful and picked favorites in his class. I would never take another class with him again and I would not recommend him EVER.
One of the best profs that I've had in the history department. He really cares about his students!
Hands down one of the BESTEST (if that's even a word) profs in the department. He is very clear about his expectations, really cares about his students, offers to proof-read your papers... If you want to boost your GPA, this class is for you. I wish I could take every history class with Dr. Rennie. He is super-duper awesome!
Best teacher ever. I wish he could teach me every class.
Brad is the best instructor I've had in university. He is very clear about expectations, and open to answering any questions you may have. I wish I could take another class with him!!
Awesome prof! His notes are clear and all you need. Attendance is mandatory since he doesn't post his powerpoints!
Fantastic, very clear!
Rennie has unclear expectation and is not up do date. Not one of the best. Wastes a lot of time on unnecessary topics. If you are looking for an interesting class and a good class prof, don't take classes with him.
Dr. Rennie is one of the best professors at the University of Calgary. He is genuinely kind and cares about his students. His expectations are clear and he is always willing to provide extra help (like reviewing your paper before you submit it) and more clarification if needed. Overall, he is very approachable, funny and knowledgeable!
Awesome, excellent, amazing. Would take every class with Professor Rennie. Thumbs up
Overall good prof. He lectures at a clear slow pace that is easy to keep up with. His material is well organized and he is a fair marker. His TA on the other hand was a lot tougher on the marking. A fair amount of readings in this class, but they are discussed every class in group work. Study guides are posted before exams which help when studying
He was good at lecturing and gives you good time to take notes. All in all great prof.
Great prof. Helpful, gives good feedback, lectures at a nice and slow pace. Knows his stuff and I had an enjoyable time being in his class! Hopefully I can take a class with him again!
Great prof, lectures are taught at a good pace and material is interesting and well covered. Textbook isn't required except for your papers and the tests, but even then you don't have to read everything. Great prof!
Very understanding and fair. Funny and does his best to make the class fun and interesting. Easy to get a hold of (emails back very quickly). Gives really good detail about exams, no surprises and really wants you to do well.
Really funny and good lecturer. Goes at a pace that is just right, not too slow and not too fast. At times does have class discussions about textbook readings. Textbook is mandatory for the exams and papers. The TA's mark very hard, but the professor marks fair.
I love this prof!!!! I wish I could take him for every course - this was easily the most enjoyable class in my entire degree. He is a very engaging lecturer and is very knowledgeable about the material, and his expectations are very clear and easy to meet. He's always willing to help you out or answer questions, and he's honestly just a great guy.
Amazing prof! He marks fairly and lectures in a manner that is understandable and gives great feedback. He responds to emails very quickly and is honest and straightforward. His TAs are absolutely terrible at grading, make sure you have your assignments looked at by someone else, either the prof or fill out a formal request, huge discrepancy!
Rennie is one of the worst professors I have taken in my undergrad. I took it as a GPA booster in my final year and WOW do I wish I took anything else. He talks at a pace so slow that you can feel yourself ageing, he fills your email with inane reminders that are on the course outline and his slides have copious grammatical and structural errors.
Brad isnt good or bad, really pretty mediocre prof but so many annoying tendencies, will FILL your email inbox, constantly sending you unnecessary emails and as an A average student I was pulling low Bs. He also talks SO slowly, felt like a highschool class, but at least hes kinda funny and pretty chill
Prof Rennie was an incredibly engaging lecturer and I learned so much from being in the class. He did send a lot of email notifications but I honestly appreciated them because it kept me on top of things. This class had a lot of writing involved but Rennie answered any and all questions quickly and thoroughly. Super friendly and chill guy!
Brad is a-okay proff. I didn't mind the number of emails but I did not enjoy being told over and over again this isn't high school. But he responds amazingly to emails! My T. A seemed like an overly harsh grader because for my research project I went to multiple writing helpers provided by the Uni, they all said my paper was great.. Got a 76.
Brad is a mediocre prof. Not good, not bad. His course did seem very much like high school though. He is however, very good at answering emails and it quite kind. His TAs are awful though, mine completely ruined the class for me. He was rude, inconsiderate, and completely unprofessional. Basically, he refused to do his job. Would not recommend.
Brad was truly a wonderful professor. He was very passionate and it makes you feel much more involved (although he talks slower than most). If you take his class you MUST take notes and you MUST read the textbook if you want any chance to pass. He really wants you to succeed, you just need to put in the work and time. Again, READ TEXTBOOK / NOTES!!
This class was super interesting and not very hard. As long as you take notes and do the readings it is a relatively easy and fun course. The prof is super understanding as well so don't be afraid to reach out.
Rennie was an amazing professor, his lectures were always entertaining to watch, and grades were returned quickly. Would for sure take more of his classes in the future.
CNST 333 Very old school so a lot of reading and a lot of writing. All papers have to be submitted on d2l and via email. Answers emails quickly. He is not a stickler for format, length and citations but very critical about analysis so you really have to know the material. Exams are all written. He doesn't post slides after class only before exams.
lots of readings and quite lecture heavy. tough grader but always willing to give extra help on assignments and quizzes.
