Funny, knowledgeable, entertaining. Tests/assignments challenging but not too difficult. Definitely math/calculations in this class, so if you haven't taken statistics/are not math-inclined it might be hard. He's new to Davis & the quarter system, so timing was a bit off, but he'll figure it out. I think he'll end up being a popular prof. here.

The class is very easy if you've taken a stats course. Basic calculations like standard dev, mean, median, IQR, and simple t-tests/confidence intervals. If you don't have a strong math background, this class will be trouble for you. Jones is a funny character and is pretty helpful if you approach him.

He made a course basically just on statistics tolerable. I learned more in this class than I did in my actual stats course. Theres only one midterm, final, and problem sets. You need prior knowledge to statistics for the final, as his explanations aren't very helpful. You don't go through much at all during class, but it's still a good idea to go because the slides aren't comprehensive. TAs grade the exams, so there's some variance there. He was nice but I found his class extremely disorganized. He also spammed Canvas messages multiple times a week which became pretty annoying. He assigned quizzes that covered things that weren't explicitly mentioned in class either. I had to take POL051 and he was the only teacher available, but I wouldn't recommend him if not necessary. Sorry!

Professor Jones gets a bad rep for some reason, but he changed up POL 051 this quarter. Assignments are easy, the quizzes require reading the textbook. He does curve quizzes. He gave us all the points for the second quiz for free. Make sure to go to lecture, he goes over the assignments. The final was additional tasks on assignment 3. 10/10

It's the end of the quarter and I still don't know what this class was about. I went to lectures for the first few weeks but stopped going because his lectures were so scattered I got absolutely nothing out of them. Spammed Canvas so much, like 90% of all messages I've ever got are from him. Seems like an okay dude but not a very good teacher.

I was hesitant to take his class because of the reviews, but honestly i'm so glad that i did. Prof. Jones is the smartest person i have ever met. He cares about the latino community and is an active advocate. I will admit he is quirky but that's about it. He is open about his mental health. Projects where easy - as long as you enjoy the topic.

Professor Jones is a great instructor. Although his grading can be tough and he assigns a lot of work, he is also very flexible and understanding. He genuinely wants his students to be well-equipped for this class. As long as you attend lectures and complete the work on time, you should do well in this course.

No relevant syllabus. Crammed all the projects into the last few weeks due to failure to teach the code. His lectures are about his border research, which is interesting, but has nothing to do with the projects or exams. Read the textbook and write twice as much as he asks for, and you might just get an A.

Most of our projects were crammed into the last weeks due to failure to teach R-code and deviate from his research. Despite lectures being interesting, they rarely had anything to do with the content needed to succeed. There's also a lack of responsiveness to emails/grading, making it frustrating to deal with html upload errors.

He is sincerely a great professor. The material he teaches and lectures on is about historical events that influence how Latinos are treated in the US.
