It's kidna cool how everything is based on groups and online. It's an easy but educational way to get your W (writing intensive) credit out of the way!
Very fun and well organized class. I like how everything is based on the blogs online. A lot nicer way then writing a paper everyday in class. Very nice instructor.
There is a lot of writing involved but it's a composition class so it is expected. He's very helpful if you have any questions.
Thought provoking and informative lectures lots of writing. I had fun in the class and learned alot about the subjects I wrote about. I would recomend this teacher to someone who likes to write.
I liked Brad a lot...the first prof I actually felt comfortable calling by his/her first name. He was a bit self-rightous in a very entertaining way. His class was one I looked forward to because he was funny and sarcastic and not a dick. The best college English teacher I've ever had-he actually edits your papers.

Hey was ok... he kind of made things a little confusing to me, but he was always willing to help.
lovely man
His material was interesting but he is a pain in the ass and ive heard his class is alot harder than other teachers'
This class was such a bad experience that I was glad to drop it and lose the money. The required reading was dry and difficult to understand. He graded so harshly that people were almost crying when we got our first paper back. The smallest details were the difference between and A and a C. You will have to work really, really hard to barely pass..
He grades harshly, but lets you fix it and turn it back in, and I saw my writing really improve through his class. I personally did not like how he ran the class, but some people who might need structure should like it. Good experience overall.
Very poor class. Nothing was taught before the first essay was due, actually there was no English taught in the entire term. This class is huge waste of time and money. Instructions were poor and the advice was worse. Bleck would simply talk the entire class about random things then tell us that our next paper was due next week. DO NOT TAKE THIS CL
Terrible class. The Prof was very political and did not give any time for opposing arguments. He did NOT teach any English or writing skills. It was a huge waste of money, I wrote a letter to the dean after the course was completed complaining. All the time is spent discussing politics and trashing opposing povs. Take Eng. 101 from a different prof
not the best teacher in the world. He grades essays extremely harsh and takes attendance everyday. doesn't really teach you how to write, you just have to do it. You have a reading and writing assignment almost every night. hardest thing in the class are the two essays.
hes an ok guy, class is just rediculously hard
In order to pass his class you must do your jounals on the class blog site, to pass you need 60% of the journals completed.Plus the reading that is assigned every night.
There would often be "class drama" where one student might contradict the teacher.. DRAMA...
Very hard class, hard to understand but if you work hard take his suggestions you will come out with a good grade.
Absolutely horrible teacher. No matter what you do or try, he still manages to squeeze in a bad grade, making your life miserable. You take his suggestions and your paper(s) are still not good enough. Stay away from this teacher!
knows exactly what he wants out of you. will help you. possible 4.0 if you work for it. wonderful teacher but toughest class i have ever taken
he is helpful, gets the job done, appears lackluster sometimes.
I dreaded going to class everyday. Not only was it boring and difficult, but he is very judgemental. He was very rude to me even though I did all of the work and would even ask for extra help. He constantly talked about politics instead of the book we were reading. Plus he kinda spits when he talks so stay far away!
only worked on 4 essays and 2 impromtu essays through-out the quarter u pick 3 of them 2 b ur final i believe he played favorites i got the same grade for All my papers no matter how good I thought it was. hes helpful but doesnt explain things clearly, when going over ur essay has high expectations gives week 2 fix ur essay if u don't like ur grade
Going into this I was stoked as this was the first English class other than 101 that I had had. I love British Literature which is what the class was. He seemed nice at first, great personality and such but I was completely changed after about the 2nd week of class. He has this thing called Bleck Blog. Its terrible!
I was in his Brittish Literature class before I dropped out about a month in to the class. Bleck is fowl mouthed, his grading isn't fair, slanderous, obsessed with sex and politics, demands 3+ hours of homework EVERY NIGHT for his class alone...I could go on for an eternity. Don't take this class....recommend it to your enemies.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The work load is enormous and almost unreasonable, and I'm not new to college. The book clubs were a nightmare, too. Don't be fooled if there's no "W" next to the course name, either, because it IS writing intensive, regardless.
This guy's class should be called the art of arguing weak analogies. His instructions are unclear, and his grading scale seems almost completely random. He actually took a vacation during a school week and had us correct each others final drafts. Massive amount of homework. Dont take this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Drop the class if you've already signed up. Unclear expectations on assignments. Absurdly high volume of homework. Final project is an HOUR long presentation. You can automatically fail course over 5 different ways, which are not made clear from start. Excessively harsh & subjective in grading. Negative learning experience.
This class is SO hard. But I loved it! The blog is difficult to keep up with, and the reading can become a tad tedious, but if you like english this will blow your mind! he has the coolest ideas, and is a crazy man! The dicussions are always rich and the final is the most fun ever! i hope you like movies! just wow him and youll be great!
This class is not for an average student, this is why there are many neg reviews. If you are looking for an interesting informing class about brit lit this is it. It was challenging at times, but with simple maintenance on hw (1 hour a night if you struggled) it was easy to succeed. Bleck was helpful w students who had a genuine interest/concern.
Bradley know his stuff about English, but his directions were very confusing. Often times, I would have to ask Connie to clarify what Bradley was explaining to me. An okay teacher, but challenging at explaining directions.
Hated this teacher
The class is pretty easy if you're capable of doing the reading. Be forewarned he's an ideological democrat who can relate any piece of literature ever written to political liberalism. So don't take the class if that sort of stuff gets under your skin.
Bleck is full of himself and useless as a teacher. I should have left when I found his blog where he posts videos of himself reciting Virginia Wolfe in the dark. I LOVE English and took this as a relaxation course. He grades work depending on the weather? I would avoid him at all costs. Boring and falls asleep during the ever important presentations
I'm still in his Shakespeare class. I do't know what he's like in his other classes, but this has been one of the best classes I've ever had and I am in my third year here...Almost embarrassing. Very good at explaining things and creating a relaxed environment. It's a lot of reading, but the blog posts he makes you do are super easy.
Does not communicate well. You don't know the class expectations or what he is trying to teach. Class attendance is mandatory but it's just a waste of time.
Personable guy, but a very confusing teacher. I could never tell what his criteria for grading were. Spend 16 hours slaving over an essay? Grade: 3.0. Slap something together and hand it in a day late? Grade: 3.9. I learned, but felt like I was in the dark the whole time. I got a 3.8 in the class and still have NO IDEA WHY.
He talks for days, literally DAYS. He isn't helpful at all and is confusing when giving instructions on assignments. I would NOT recommend taking his class.
This class is hard. Expect to write a lot and spend a lot of time reading the plays with little to no help at all. He never told us anything about our grades till the final and even then it was obscure. This teacher disregarded what I had said during class because he didn't like me for some reason ,I hated this teacher. I do NOT recommend.
This class has an outrageous workload. I am by no means saying that it is impossible, but be prepared to read 20+ incredibly dense pages per night, and then write about them. Additionally, you will read an entire novel, and write a separate journal response every week. You'll also write two long essays over the course of the quarter. Tons of work.
He is not good at explaining things, he doesn't teach, I do not look forward to his class, I feel like I am gaining nothing.
Very unclear directions. Overly political for an early American Lit class, or any class for that matter. Terrible class dynamic with a bare minimum of an hour and a half spent on homework each day. Lackluster, almost incomprehensible teaching style and no respect for disagreement. I would have learned just as much if I had read the books on my own.
He is not clear with anything. He will say something about an assignment then online it will be something different. He is not clear with what he wants during class or outside of class. He is a very hard grader. He does not like running start students either. But he does not explain anything. He also lectures a lot about stuff that does matter.
Really confusing directions and he seemed to be really full of himself. He based our whole class on political issues in China, which wasn't relevant to our class at all. Every single activity had to do with China and their culture.
Wrote four essays throughout the quarter. As long as you do a good job on your papers, you should get 100%. Sometimes directions are unclear, but you can always ask and he will get back to you right away to clarify.
Took the online class. it was really difficult to understand what to even write about. He wasn't clear on a lot of things. Wasn't helpful when I needed the help.
Did not explain what he wanted in our essays and kind of left us to fend for ourselves. Which would be fine if he didn't grade the papers like he'd told us exactly what to write!
He's a good teacher. He at first can be a little confusing about what he wants but you get the hang of it. In class, he normally just assigns you to work on the outside of class assignments. He can be a bit harsh sometimes, but you can also tell that he really wants you to succeed.
Do NOT take his class. Avoid like plague. he is very unprofessional on many different levels. You can try your hardest, turn everything in on time, pass the portfolio and best you can do is 3.0. If you're happy with that and working your butt off take the class. Also his directions are not very clear
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. Horribly unclear in his expectations of assignments. He is a has a severe superiority complex. He has no ability to connect to his students. Get ready for horrible lectures, little care for his students, and then a bad grade because he doesn't care in helping his students out. Terrible teacher.
Yes, in this class you will read a lot of challenging articles. Its college big whoop. I see many people writing a bad review about this professor but in reality he is a good teacher. He understands how to teach in a different way, unlike tradition. As for the workload, if you read when you are suppose to it shall be fine. He is great!
Doesn't expect much from you, as long as you put in an effort, so will he. He is very understanding and it is an easy class.
I do not recommend his English 101 class. There are other teachers were you can get more out of. He is very confusing about due dates and assignments and then slaps you in the face when you don't understand. He makes everyone feel like they are going to fail the portfolio process so it is hard to tell how much improvement to make. Just stay away.
If you are a hard worker you will do just fine in this class. You have to be very organized in his class, and even then it can get confusing since he is very vague about due dates. Lots of college level reading, but it helps because it makes your portfolio bullet proof even if you don't know what you're talking about in your papers.
I'm surprised by the negative reviews. I liked him as a person, he might not have been the greatest professor ever but he was the best of the english teachers I had at SFCC. He worked with me when I had technical difficulties on a website we had to make and was understanding about it. I put in a decent amount of effort and got an A.
I really liked Mr. Bleck as a teacher. he gets off track quite a but that never bothered me. My favorite part about him is that he really doesn't care when you turn in your paper as long as its in very reasonably close to when he asks.. so if your behind your not scrambling and he wont mark you down.
He is a great teacher, it is true that he'll get off track but it never drags out for more than a minute or two, that way we still get everything covered in class. It's also hard to fall asleep because of the positive environment. He gives a manageable amount of homework as well, not doing it though could really screw with your grade. He is decent.
He reminds me of every English teacher I had in high school but in a good way, you cant really tell if he likes you but it doesnt matter if he does or not (for your grade). Hes entertaining and keeps class light and positive.. but if you passed 101 in High school dont tell him. He doesnt mind late work but dont take advantage of that
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He never explains anything clearly. At the beginning of the quarter it was very easy but a lot of homework and in the last week of class you have to do a final essay, a final group presentation, and a final test plus he only gave the 25 page study guide to the class not even a week before the test. Very stressful
He never explains anything clearly, but it is usually on canvas, so not bad. Started easy with a lot of homework and the last few weeks there were so many assignments and final projects. Asked him all quarter what the final was going to be on and he finally answered with a 25 page study guide less than a week before the test.
Bradley seems like a really nice guy to talk to or be friends with but he is all over the place. He has nightly readings that are crazy long and pretty hard to understand. He gave us a final study guide that is 26 pages long about four days before the final. Bradly is cool but he is very inconsistent when it comes to assignment outlines and dealine
Yall, this man is a good person, but..... You get homework everyday due the next day. This homework consists of huge ass readings and (started with 5) 2 questions. Final papers? Heck ya, on top of he doesn't give u a topic to write the paper on and you have no idea what to write. Anyway, as long as u do the assignments without failing them, u good.
I really liked Bradley as a person but as a teacher he just doesn't get it. He requires a ridiculous amount of reading every night, sometimes 35-40 text-filled pages as well as the literature reviews and the book club. He gave us a 25-page study guide for the final that doesn't really tell you what to study for. The hardest class I've taken here.
Bruhs DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER let me tell you he may seem like a nice teacher but he is insanely disorganized he starts off slow but near the end he gives out huge assignments along with a study guide with little to no time to study for the final exam group presentation and what he demands is pretty unclear and daily assignments being really long
Black taught the same nonsense at College of Southern NV. His method of teaching is to humiliate you on writing topics. For instance, an essay I wrote about my parents was positive, and his response was, 'so, your mom and dad let you do whatever you want'? That was followed by similar crap. Some review from a supposed instructor.
Bradley generally is a nice guy, however me and my classmates felt that he always kept us in air with his assignment. I mean whenever he told us to write about something, we didnt know what to do exactly or how to write about it. Just so confusing. And the final paper was the WORST His handwriting is awful too. Good luck guys and dont take him
Lots of work, unclear of what to do by when, confusing system of grading, rambles on a lot
He's a nice guy, not a great professor. His assignments were confusing, and asking him questions just made things more confusing. There's a lot of reading, and his grading criteria was confusing and not concrete.
I went into this class excited because he doesn't believe in grading. He said "If you do the work you'll get better than a B" You could write a paper saying you deserved better than a B though, which he was a tough grader on. I did all the work, but he only gave me a B then made me feel stupid for questioning him. I do not recommend.
One of the worst professors I've ever had, he seems like a cool dude at first but makes the class hard just for the sake of it being hard. Very unclear directions, very unorganized so half the time you don't even know what to do, and grades extremely harshly. I am usually a fairly good student but am barely just scraping by in this class. RIP
Horrible proffessor. Would never take again. Gives horrible feedback if any at all. He is very very unclear with his course expectations. His paper prompts are confusing and will grade you harshly on things that werent expressed as an expectation. He is somewhat sexist but tries to cover it with comedy. He is not willing to talk about grade.
I read the bad reviews for this professor before I took the class, and I gave him the benefit of the doubt anyway.... all the bad reviews are right. He is the worst professor I've ever had. I am an english person, I only missed 5 classes and it was an every day class, and I almost failed. Horrible feedback, confusing instructions, no organization
Overall, I'd say Mr. Bleck is a decent teacher. He tells you exactly what he is looking for, and for the most part, pushes you to be a better writer. As long as you get your work done in a timely manner (and done right), you should easily pass. Class is pretty easy.
really nice guy who was strict as well. work load wasnt that heavy but his grading system is weird. always ready to help you, held conferences twice to go over our papers so we can make them better before he grades them. lots of group discussions and graded you on your attendance, school work, and overall participation. very very understanding
Such a nice guy. Very helpful and obviously enjoys his job. Show effort and he will always be there to help! Would take again.
I took English 101 with Bleck as a running start student. All the expectations are explained from the first day of class. I have time-consuming extracurriculars at my home high school and he accommodated them. I signed up for his 102 class as well. Most work was just reading articles and writing essays. Fail the final portfolio, fail the class.
The course was the most unorganized class Ive ever taken even in high school. Every professor grades differently and has different expectations especially in English class. Yet, instead of addressing what he was looking for in a paper he waited until you did all the work before making you feel like an idiot. HORRIBLE TEACHER.
His instructions on his assignments are extremely unclear, he changes his mind about what he wants and how he wants things done often. He does not provide good feedback and is not helpful when questions are asked. Hes sexist and very opinionated. He also does not give letter grades until the end and without exemplary work, you can only get a B.
Awesome teacher, I had him for both 101 and 102. His directions are very clear and he even gives you examples of what he expects out of your work. I wasnt very good at English during high school but that definitely changed after taking Bradleys class. As long as you follow his directions and put in the work, there is no reason not to get a 4.0
I really like Mr. Bleck. I took his class online and he did a really good job adapting his course. He gave me really solid feedback and answered all of my questions quickly. He also didn't grade on individual assignments but overall effort, skill, and participation. So that's really nice. He's a fun guy and I really enjoyed his class.
The great frustration I have had with this class is having to interpret poor instructions and re-do work or take a bad grade. It is frustrating to have to finish a new hour plus assignment while having to re-do a previous one, this course feels like a two step forward one step back kind of slog.
He is a total liberal so if you are conservative you definately won't agree with him.
Really wants to make a change in the world of grading.. but trashes your gpa to do it. I enjoyed the discussions but even if you were to get 100% on everything (he decides your grade arbitrarily at the end of the quarter) you can only get a B. 4.0 in every other English class Ive taken except his and I wonder why- even after doing the extra
Bleck is a good professor. Prompt and helpful when you need assistance but I've got some beef w his grading method. The highest grade attainable is a B unless you do all the extra credit work, and you are unaware of your grade until the end of the quarter, so you won't know if you pass or not until it's too late. If you have anxiety stay away
If you need very clear instructions on what to do, you will not do well. He's very confusing about what he is looking for, and I struggled heavily with that. Also, his grading system. You can only get a 4.0 if you do all the extra credit and you cannot miss assignments or mess up on them, which is hard when you cannot tell what he wants.
What he "taught" the whole quarter could be condensed into a 2-hour video. He had us read this book called "The Cold Millions"(incredibly boring) and write a research paper on a Spokane Landmark? The emphasis was not on English writing skills at all it was on learning about a landmark. If you do the many MANY pointless assignments, it's an easy A.
Bradley is a good guy, but not the greatest professor for my learning style. His instructions were generally unclear and the connections he wanted us to make for our papers were confusing at best. Also, if you take this course, sit near the whiteboard. He teaches at the board with subpar handwriting and sitting in the back makes it harder to read.
I haven't had many problems with sfcc, but this professor was awful. He said very blatant sexist remarks and would go on rants for the whole period that had nothing to do with the class. He also gives A LOT of homework/ group work, so if you aren't into that then don't come near this class.
Honestly, at first, I had high hopes, but as time passed, I realized he assigned an abundance of busy work and was a harsh and unfair grader. In class, he would make off-handed remarks about many inappropriate topics. He picked on those asking odd questions and blatantly laughing at them. He's not a good teacher, and I hope he doesn't continue.
This man is the most confusing teacher I have ever had. His instructions were so messy most of the time and it was really hard to keep up without spacing out or having to double take the instructions. He overlaps assignments, so there was one point where I was working on 3 essays at a time. Tons of tedious and seemingly unhelpful assignments.
Prof. Bleck is very passionate about the books he assigns and about group discussions in class. You can expect to do 2-3 discussion boards per week as well as other essay buildup work. He wasn't super professional in class, at one point cursing at students and accusing them of something they didn't do. Overall just do all the work and you'll be ok.
Let me preface all of this by saying English is my favorite, and I tend to take criticism well. I'm also not afraid of hard work. His class was horrible. He made me cry and humiliated me TWICE in class. He told me that I needed a smaller social life, fewer friends, and to cut my hours at work so I could turn his pointless homework in.
He barely teaches, there is an assignment of every single day, and class time is usually spent working on those assignments or him rambling about random things
He posted the final project (called draft 3 of essay 3) on the day it was due with no prior indication that it was a thing. don't take this class as him as the professor, please.
Professor Bleck has unclear instructions for most assignments leading you to have an incomplete even after following the directions because you don't fit the exact way he wanted you to write the assignment even if you fully completed what was expected. Lots of discussions and group posts that he grades harshly as well even if completed correctly.
Bleck would rarely give me feedback and even after redoing assignments multiple times to the criteria would still give me a zero, at the end of the quarter when my grade was struggling he literally told me to give up. Majority of this class was him going on about riding his bike and it was like talking to my grandpa with dementia, save yourself!
Avoid taking this class if you can. Professor Bleck has unclear instructions and harsh grading. Lots of busy work and group assignments that he critiques unfairly. I found unstuck ai and ChatGPT helpful for study prep, but this class was a real struggle.
Was not the kindest in the slightest. Assignment directions would seem clear but then he would give you an incomplete because it wasn't the way he wanted. Get any other English professor if you plan on taking English 101.
His lessons became very political and off topic. He assigned work like it was going out of style and was little to no help. Half the time his examples were of him editing and writing his newspaper collum, never on the topic we were working on. He definitely favorited people and stated once that he forgot my table due to all of us being women.
Labor Based grading and is very harsh with his final grade given out. would not take this professor unless you want to learn a new way of learning and spend upwards of 2-3 hours a night on top of class that day just to meet his standards of a B. Have o go above and beyond class assignments and requirements to earn higher than a B.
He's the worst teacher you will ever have don't ever take his class. He's so tuff at grading and gives so much homework.
