Helpful & not boring! Great guy.
Great prof. Never boring, enthusiastic about teaching. Very helpful and understanding.
A most enjoyable guy. Funny and on level with students.
Great person. Really passionate about what he teaches. Brings life into the topic at hand.
awesome Prof!!!!
Great guy and professor..

So much passion. wicked wicked wicked. Great novel selection as well.
Very insightful man, and an enthusiastic teacher. Obviously passionate about his subject. I would recommend him highly.
Perhaps the worst prof I'ver ever had. He's not passionate, he's self involved. He's only liked by younger students who don't know what a good prof should be. They're taken with his youth and use of profanity. He is totally unprofessional & condescending
Really passionate about his profession. Relates very well with his students.
I was very disappointed with the final exam. 20% of our course was based on 26 very short answer questions, that asked questions like "in which poem is the poet looking at a girl in the field?". Up until that, though, I was enjoying the cou

Passionate about what he teaches, and very knowledgeable, but covers material much too quickly (hand cramps aplenty), is a very picky marker, and is often condescending and vulgar in class.
Slightly too cool for school but makes up for this b/c he's very into his subjects, very conscientious about pulling together a great syllabus. Bring an opinion to class and be willing to defend it--and you will have a great time!
What's with the constant use of swear words and vulgarity??? Does he not know how to appeal to students without them? YUCK. Unprofessional.
He's organized, articulate, engaging and accessible. He's totally brilliant without being sanctimonious. A fair marker and very helpful. If you're serious he'll respect you and you'll have no worries. He's also v. attractive and v.funny.
Actually, not joking, worse course I've taken at MUN. I don't understand this notion of him being "cool". He may have a lot to say, but his information is boring and often useless. There are BETTER english profs than this loser!
He's extremely personable and is clearly interested in the students welfare. His lectures are rich in material/content but he doesn't expect you to know everything he's said, you can take what you'd like from a huge banquet of information.
he's not condecending, but he's sort of intimidating. He wants you to talk in class, but does not make you feel like you can. But he's really hot
Very expressive during lectures (if you can't handle rough/vulgar language you shouldn't be in english). Very helpful and open with students, often moves too fast however, slightly hard marker but far from some of the nazi's i've met in the eng department. Course material VERY interesting
He managed to make some of the hardest novels I'd ever read interesting. He practically handed marks to anyone willing to do a bit of work, gave me my best English mark ever. He's a nice guy, friendly, and yes, he's pretty hot for a prof.
Fair and intersting. He brings concepts down to their basics and talks about that instead of the elaborate, confusing and/or vague ideas some other profs get on with.

He's an alright guy, a breath of fresh air from some of the uptigh, super meticulous prof's in the english department. He's idea's are refreshing a new-age (probably because he's young) and classes are very interesting... he know's his stuff!
Well I have to say he made a class that I dreaded sooo much to take, pretty interesting. I questioned his reasoning for getting us to read Trainspotting but it was GREAT. I am very happy to have taken his course. He was great to talk to, ready and willing to help out anyone.
Brad took a very interesting subject and drain every ounce of fun out of it for me. He is a pompous, arrogant, know-it-all teacher, who considers himself young, hip, and stylish. He swears too much! He plays favorites. He's a sook, so make sure to get to class on time. Admittedly though, he's smart.
Talks too fast...uses words that only he knows the definitions of. Tries to make things more difficult than what they really are....next to impossible to get an A! BUT...he is willing to help whenever you need it..& he is friendly. Some may say kinda cute for a prof!
Él inspira la pasión en lo que él está hablando.
He really changed my mind on 4000 level english courses. He is super smart, and talked over my head more than once, but he pushes you to look at things in a whole new light. This class had some very difficult texts to read, but he managed to bring out so many interesting ideas from these works! And hey, an added bonus...he is not hard on the eyes!
I think he was an excellent prof. He was clearly interested in what he was presenting and what the students thought about the material they were covering (which is unfortunately rare). He was extremely easy to talk to and down to earth, insisting that his class all call him Brad. I would definitely take another course with him.
One of the most arrogant and self-centered profs I've ever met. Not too bad looking, perhaps, but certainly not as good-looking as *he* thinks he is. Don't waste your time with this ****.
Arrogant, but thinks he's accessible. His comment of "So?" on papers was unhelpful and inappropriate. Lacks the ability to communicate what he wants from students - likes the sound of his own voice too much to listen and give students the direction they need.
Hmmm....Crad is easy to misread - I know I did. Although his style may be offputting in a class setting, getting him one on one is an entirely different story. Face to face he is personable and informative, so if you're taking a course, not making the time to stop by his office is a mistake.
there aren't many great english profs at mun. this is one of them. he expects a lot but is very willing to help you out. makes you think about things differently. give him a shot. you won't be dissapointed.
it's a hard course. the material isn't easy. but brad is an amazing prof who wants to help you get through it AND enjoy it. seminar classes are well organized and the class runs well. you learn so much as long as you put the effort into it. any questions, just ask him and he's sure to sit down and help you out. !!!
Brad is an OK guy...I think he's a little full of himself at times! Some topics he is a lot more passionate about which ca make some feel uncomfortable, but overall, he's ok and the course is ok too.
AMAZING!!!! I've actually just started his course and I'm sure I don't have enough space to write how awesome he is. He is sooo smart and funny. His class is actually the only one I've never fallen asleep in and the only class that I'm actually excited to attend. TAKE HIS CLASS!! Especially the girls, since he's pretty hot!!
Brad's been an excellent prof; you can tell he enjoys picking stories apart and talking. the class was more lecture-oriented than I had expected but I think that's just his style. also excellent taste in shirts. A++
Extremely fun, makes class interesting and makes english fun and enjoyable. Easy marker too.
Class was interesting but I learnt nothing. He read his own papers to us about raping potato chips or put on a movie. He put down students when they offered opinions so nobody talked. We only some papers back and the feedback was useless. He is not hot and his goatee frightens me. You're hip and intellectual, got it. Now get over yourself and teach
LOVED him! Really fun to listen to, and his dry humour is hilarious! He's a fair marker, go to see him and he'll hlep a lot! Really fun course for english!
I also took 2004 with Brad, and could not ask for a better prof. I wish he taught every course I have to do. He's absolutely AMAZING (gorgeous too). Anyone that has something bad to say about him has got to be crazy! He's the most helpful, caring professor I've had in 4 years at MUN. I seriously can not come up w/enough words to praise him! :)
LOVED him! he made english so much fun to attend. It was important to show up to class- because he really do remember those who attend regularly. Offers lots of help if you go to him one on one. If he knows you tried he'll be fair! It was really fun to be able to talk about your opinion on things too- even if his were different it was fun with him!
Great Prof. easy to talk to and get along with, offers help and advice. remembers those who show up for class.
Very rugged; very hot but moody at times. Do NOT ask to leave his class before it is over.
A huge dissapointment overall. I started the class thinking this was the prof to really inspire me, but he turned out to be incredibly moody and sometimes aggressive. At times it felt like he wasn't listening to my responses, which was incredibly frustrating.
He's really enthusiastic about what he teaches, which makes going to class pretty fun. Pretty laid back, doesn't pick on people who don't want to talk. All in all, awesome.
Awesome prof. So helpful and made class really interesting :) He's awesome!
He is a great prof.Knows his stuff.Always late but that is forgivable.Makes class fun to go to. Not hard on the eyes!
Bradley is fun in class when he's in a good mood. He's moody and childish however if people do not participate like its 1999. sort of dumb grader and accepts criticism (theoretically) learn to read his mind for the exam.
All in all, a very good professor. He certainly knows his stuff, and classes are interesting for the most part. Course is very organized, and he is very clear with what he wants. He is a fair grader, not overly picky, and gives excellent constructive criticism on essays. He can act arrogant and childish sometimes, but overall a great professor.
Dr. Clissold's theory course was by far the most interesting and challenging thing I took in grad school. He broke down ideas clearly, was open to discussion and outright disagreement with theoretical perspectives, and he even made theory palatable for me. He pushed me to write some of the clearest, most cohesive work I have ever produced. Not for
Pretty good prof. He constantly offers to spend time with you in his office if you need help and replies to e-mails pretty quickly. DO NOT leave his class early and DO NOT use your phone-he'll get really pissed. He knew his stuff and the assignments were pretty simple and straightforward.
brad is EXCELLENT. he gives you 10% just for showing up. awesome guy, hes an easy marker. he lets you know what he wants, how he wants it and whats going to give you marks. gave open book in class exam and didnt grade on spelling or anything. his lectures are fantastic hes super open and helpful. loved this class
Great prof. Fair marker. Incredibly interesting classes. He tells you exactly what he wants from you and is very helpful. The following things make him angry: leaving class early, using your phone, and working on something else in class.
Moody and childish at times. Trademark bomber jacket
Good teacher, knows his stuff extremely well and makes class interesting. I have never seen a teacher so thoroughly prepare students for what will be on the exams, in class he goes over the exact type of structure that he wants in essays (very straightforward and to the point, not a lot of flowery writing). It helps if you like movies as well.
Horrible teacher
Very nice guy, kept class fairly interesting. Very hard grader, standards way too high for a 2nd year class. Unless English major avoid or GPA will suffer. Very helpful if you go see him, but you pretty much always need an appointment. Don't leave class early, use phone or leave early he will get mad.
Really great prof. Is super energetic and passionate about his classes and is always willing to go over work and edits with students. He is a challenging grader but he's really just looking for you to put the time in. If you have problems with anything he is super willing to discuss and give tips.
Great Prof! He's pretty straight forward and clear on what he wants from essays. He always kept classes interesting, and if you need help he's always willing . Id recommend take this course with him !
Brad is hilarious and makes his lectures easy to follow. He is a fairly tough grader but is more than willing to help you if you meet with him to go over your essays. Not much reading necessary, just one short story (4-14 pages) before every class. I enjoyed going to his classes and he could turn almost any lecture into a joke. 1010
very tough grader!
very tough grader
Easily my favourite prof at MUN. He's a tough grader, and really makes you work for your grades. But he's super fair, gives great feedback, is always apprachable and more than willing to help, and has the best writing tips I've ever gotten. Would highly recommend any course with Brad. Tough but worth it. Great taste inliterature, and hilarious too.
Very tough grader. Need to be pretty perfect in order for your paper to be graded above 70. Funny professor, but can come off arrogant and unfriendly at times.
Kind of apathetic. If you want a caring, nurturing prof he is 100000% not your guy. Doesn't respond to emails with replies over 15 words. His class was pretty easy in general though, and god does he love phalluses.
Brad was a pretty good prof; he's a good guy in general, but he's a tough grader, gives feedback that he expects you to already understand, and sometimes comes off as arrogant. I enjoyed his class overall, but I put a lot of work into it and still never got the grades I think deserved. Not the most sympathetic dude, though I would recommend.
Brad changed my university career, as an Honours English major. Not only did he change my perspectives on close reading, his help on my essays crafted me into a better writer. He is tough, and if you don't read or attend class he won't have any time for you. Put in the work, read, go to class, and Brad will always willingly help you on your way.
For a topic like British Postmodernism, he managed to make every lecture interesting. Always willing to help if you ask for it, but don't expect much sympathy from him if you skip class and come crying to him late in the term. Attend class, answer questions when he asks, and take advantage of his office hours. Oh, and prepare to do presentations.
My favourite prof I've had in all my 4 years at MUN. Super helpful, as long as you go to class and prove you actually want to be there. I didn't find he was too tough of a grader, and the stories we read were super interesting. I definitely recommend him!
toughest grader I've ever had. takes 2.5% off essays for using words he doesn't like, like "throughout". expects you to know everything about his stories and if you don't interpret it like he did it then its considered wrong. Very arrogant in class and makes you feel dumb. do not recommend unless you have to, and if you do, get ready to be stressed
Good prof, found keeping track of due dates difficult with him where he keeps it all in fine print with reading schedules. However he really understands what it is he is teaching and is really good at helping his students understand the text.
Generally he is funny, however, he is also a very tough grader. Doesn't want you to use "throughout". Not a great proff or course for anyone who is not great in English. Takes forever to email you back. He knows his stuff but is not good at teaching it to others. Expects you to know everything he knows.
Be warned: Brad is a very tough grader. No matter how you think you did and the amount of effort you put in, you will be disappointed with your mark. The only plus about taking his course is that he is great at giving entertaining lectures. I do not recommend taking his course if you want to boost your GPA because it's likely to take a hit.
He's a tough grader and expects a lot out of you. Try and think like him and you might pass. He's a good teacher, very enthusiastic. Clear in what he wants out of you, just trying to get there is near impossible.
When it came to paper-writing, Clissold is helpful and will help you with your thesis. If you can't attend class often (even due to medical issues like me), you will be on his bad side. I would pass in papers to his mailbox because I was sick, and never receive them/mark I got back. He definitely favours people, and is obvious about who he doesn't.
Brad is an awesome prof during lectures, but he is a tough grader and I found it hard to get above a 60% in an essay even though I've been getting 90%'s in English my entire life. He's also very good to talk to about planning essays, I found his feedback to be helpful. But it is really hard to get a good grade in this course.
I received grades in the 80's my first year of uni and now I am getting 60's. He is a tough grader and isn't clear on what you are doing wrong. His lectures are interesting depending on what short story we are discussing. Don't get caught doing other work in his class because he will call you out.
Very unclear as what is expected with papers and in class essays, gives little to no feedback and very unapproachable. Won't be taking another English course with him.
Really, really unclear and uncaring prof. I've always had consistently high 80's and 90's in English but could never get over a 60 with him, even when I went to him for help planning my essay and wrote it exactly as we talked about. Lots of markings on papers given back but very little helpful feedback provided, with no indication of lost marks.
I know my review looks bad, but I actually loved Clissold! I had him for an English course and hated him because I never went and his notes weren't online But if you actually show up and take notes, it's a breeze! He gives good notes and actually enjoys what he teaches. As long as you show up and pay attention, he'll like you AND remember you.
Brad Clissold is a very interesting lecturer (though it seems the course material and assignments were disconnected in ways). I found he was very unapproachable and mean or snarky to students sometimes. He rudely called out people out for being late. I enjoyed the assignments, but he is a tough grader and I found it difficult to get over a 65.
Wasn't a fan. The material was inoffensive, however he made it seem boring. Expected class participation but permitted no avenue to actually participate in his class. Has a snarky, pretentious demeanour that certainly is not for everyone. Cannot in good conscience recommend.
This course was weird. The lectures had nothing to do with the assignments we had to do, and we were never once tested on the readings from the book, so a complete waste of $100 there. He'd ask for class participation, but then not even look up from his notes for the students who literally had their hands raised before just moving on. Hard grader.
Dr. Clissold was a bit of a tough grader but after every essay he was always accessible outside of class and through email to talk over where to improve. Read a new short story every week. He picked a lot of good stories but even if it was a boring read, he made the classes interesting and fun. Does not use d2l, and takes attendance but great prof!
His lectures don't really add anything to the class. Very boring, he just goes into detail on each book, no discussion. Difficult grader.
I slowly lost my respect for Bradley over the course of the term. I put blood, sweat, and tears into my essays but it NEVER paid off. I cried about my grade every single time. Some of the stories were also extremely hard to analyze, making it nearly impossible not look to internet sources for help. Please avoid if you want to keep your sanity
I am used to english profs being tough graders, but I am not used to them being so unapproachable and just downright mean. He provides limited to nonexistent feedback while at the same time makes you feel like the dumbest person in the world for not doing as he expects. Probably a nice person, but not a person I am interested in learning from.
He definitely reads his reviews here because a lot of issues mentioned in previous years seem to have been solved this semester. He's definitely a tough grader and sometimes his criteria is unclear, but he is pretty easy to contact/meet for clarification and help. po-mo is not really my thing, but you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches
His lectures consist of just reading passages from the text. Class is essentially a very expensive audiobook. Called me out multiple times for looking out the window in a 4th level class. Texts are boring and any analysis that differs from his own is quickly put down.
Gives great lectures that are engaging and interactive, and also super funny. Participation not only gets you more credit but you won't know what's going on if you don't attend class. He did not post at all on brightspace and when he did it was just links to the syllabus, etc.
only needed one text book the whole semester, very clear list of what will be read and when for incase you miss a class, easily contactable outside of class
Lectures and readings were fun and engaging. The evaluation comes straight from hell. 3 assignments, all 30-40% of the grade (45 min in-class') in a 2nd year English course. But, he doesn't stop there. The grading was difficult, he was not easily impressed, was not kind, and would never be satisfied with whatever you write. SO upsetting.
Mocks students for surviving SA and bullying aimed at unaliving the target. Has a big bully chip on his shoulder, thinks if he hurts you you haven't been though enough. Promotes divergence intolerance. Intentionally selects inappropriate books and reads the inappropriate segments out loud. Non consensual and overpriced inappropriate audio book.
An immensely passionate man who is well studied and wants to share his interests with his students through the curriculum. However, he isn't as engaging as he could be, tends to give poor feedback (unclear or harsh), and is a brutal grader (an A anywhere else is a B- here): avoid If you're unwilling to push yourself for just an average grade.
Great prof who actually cares about students success. Cares about participation and give marks for it. He is a very tough grader and knows what he wants but is very willing to help you meet the standards. We did 6 novels this semester which were all interesting for the most part. He talked through them in class which was nice come essay time.
Tough grader and genuinely a very boring class to attend there's a lot of reading. Essays were very complicated but still gave very unreasonable grades with little to no feedback
Professor Clissold is a tough grader, but his lectures are engaging. While essays can be challenging, he's happy to provide feedback. I found Unstuck Study AI helpful for preparing.
Great guy, appreciates when you participate in his class and show up and pay attention. One of my favourites in the faculty.
A really fair grader and engaging lectures, attendance was not mandatory but he appreciates when you show up. Overall just a really really solid prof
He is one of the meanest and most degrading professors I have ever met. Very unprofessional in the sense that he cannot admit that he was in the wrong. Belittles students, ESPECIALLY if you bring up an issue you may have to him. AVOID!!!
