Doesn't know anything about what he is teaching, never can answer a question right away! MAJOR NERD!! Grades really harsh on labs. Don't take him.

Very bad teacher, nice guy, but cannot teach at all. I am an A student and got a 40% on my last test. Avoid him if you can.He does curve but I don't think that can help me.even if I do get a good grade I didn't learn anything and will probably retake 13
Dr. Fahlman is the nicest guy you could ever ask for, and he is always encouraging students to make appointments with him to go over any confusing material. This class itself is very hard, and the tests are harder. He has a difficul time explaining thing
this class is really hard, but it is manageable. Dr. Fahlman is young and energetic which makes the class a little better. But you must study and read on your own time b/c he has a hard time explaining things in terms we'll understand. He is too smart.
He knows his stuff and started out too difficult for us, but he slowed down his lectures and is trying pretty hard to explain things well. Tests are difficult. He's really friendly and nice. He'll help you with anything you want outside of class.
he's alright...he does a good job with explaining things and he uses examples to show points he's trying to make...tests aren't bad if you go to class and do the homework on blackboard
if you havent had chem in awhile, stay away. he usually assumes if one smart kid answers his question then everyone understands. not clear at all and has a really hard time explaining things. he's very intelligent but shouldnt be teaching.
This class is just a difficult class. He tries his best to teach us, but sometimes he does assume we know something when a majority of us dont. Overall, he is a very nice guy and professor and his effort makes chemistry somewhat enjoyable.(plus he's hot!)
The material isn't that hard. The best way to study for this class is to read the text book. He puts all his notes online. You have homework due every Thursday. If you attend class, you shouldn't have a problem with any of the tests.

Really knows his Chemistry, but can't explain it so people can understand. I went to class everyday but still couldn't figure out what he was talking about. If you haven't taken Chemistry before or haven't taken it in a few years, avoid this professor.
he used powerpoint all the time. not really many examples...wouldn't recommend him unless you can do some self-teaching.
Dr. Fahlman is a nice guy and approachable, but I don't know why he's teaching CHM 131. He doesn't teach at a level appropriate for 131. Dr. Fahlman relies almost solely on Power Point and gives few examples. It's easy to get hopelessly lost in that class. If it wasn't for SI, I would have flunked.
i greatly agree with most things people have posted. this teacher should go to a power pointers annonomus support group. if you can do your online homework in groups. this teacher thought the low average on test was funny. but luckly he graded on a curve. try to do ok in lab. passed w/ c- somehow.
If you already know chemistry well, then take him. If you are not touched up on chemistry, never taken chemistry, or even if it has been a few years...DO NOT TAKE HIM. He seems to mean well but cannot explain his methods. The only way I will pass is if he truly uses a Curved Grade. Pick Some1 else
You get tons of info to study for the test..and then theres a tiny fraction actually on the test. He curves the final grade...so unless you get like a 60 or below you will get a C or higher. hard blackboard homework assignments!!
I am just attracted to him! He is really fine!
Bradley is a great teacher! He really knows his stuff and he actually cares about his students and treats them as equals. He explains things as many time as you need. Exams are kinda tough but if you study hard and do extra credit you will do fine. Lots of homework and one power point presentation to make. Take him form CHM!
Brad is a really nice guy and he is helpful if you have questions, but this class was a waste of my time and money. Classes always got cancelled and so I feel like I didn't learn much. Yet the tests were still hard:(
This lab (for CHM 120) was probably the most fun I've ever had. He does a great job of explaining things, makes things easy and fun, not to mention cuts a lot of slack (such as cancelling quizzes when the class is behind. Easy lab, great teacher, all around nice class. Even better for those who had at least some chemistry background.
This is a fun and easy class. Dr. Fahlman is extremely helpful. He's energetic,& this keeps his lectures from being boring. The exams have a fraction of the notes on them. The hmwk is easy, plus you can ask him questions on it & work in groups. We have quizzes on Fridays and one big project. Take it w/ Fahlman if you can. He grades on a curve too
Very cool teacher with nice explanations!! Tests are not hard if you regularly attend classes and do the home work properly!!
Professor Fahlman is a total babe. (he kind of looks like a sim character though) Not sure what my final grade will be but the class is fairly easy. Tests are hard but he is easy to follow, most of the time. There's a lot of homework and quizzes to help get your grade up! I would recommend chm 111 with him.
I thought CHM111 was difficult for a 100 level class, luckily Dr. Fahlman is an extremely nice guy who is always willing to help. Having a little Chemistry background would definitely help but you don't NEED it. The tests were pretty hard but he gives out other assignments and his grading system helps your grade out as well.
Brad was the most down to earth professor I have ever had. He emphasized concepts and realizes that memorization and plug n chug equations will get students nowhere in life. Totally empathetic towards student orientation, curves exams when needed. Made chem interesting and was always upbeat, best science professor I have had.
He's freakin' AWESOME. ONE OF THE BEST PROF I'VE EVER HAD. he's funny, and he always curves tests. I totally recommend him! =)
I thought his lectures, while upbeat and energetic, were hard to follow at times b/c of the way he bounces from one subject to another before completely finishing his thoughts on that subject so he'll jump back to notes already on teh board and change/add to them and since he does everything so fast you dont always catch the change in your notes.
Fahlman is an entertaining lecturer but he's hard to follow. He's very inaccessible if you ever need to meet in person to ask questions. (pretty good bout emailing back tho). Grades on curve when needed(multiple choice) and never had a single quiz. Real laid back! I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND HIM IF YOU CAN'T TEACH YOURSELF CHEM THO!!!
He's a really cool guy, kind of a smart a, but whatever I would be too if I was that smart. His notes were all over the place and his test were way harder than you would expect. I would recommend getting a tutor or a really smart friend.
Very nice teacher. Notes can be kind of confusing at times. Tests are definitely hard. Need to attend lecture. Overall he is a pretty good teacher.
Very nice teacher. Notes can be kind of confusing at times. Tests are definitely hard. Need to attend lecture. Overall he is a pretty good teacher.
You need to attend class just because it is a harder subject. He is pretty good teacher and is always willing to answer questions. His tests are hard but he always curves them. Overall he is a pretty good teacher.
Pretty great teacher, easy to get along with. knows much about the subject and gives online homework worth alot of points! tests are difficult but he curves which is a good thing. Definitely recommend taking him if you like chemistry!
CHM 132 is a hard class. After the first few weeks I was scared about what I was going to get in the class compared to CHM 131. But I ended up with the same grade! Dr. Fahlman is really smart so sometimes I got lost in the lectures but he is very helpful and wants you to do well. I looked forward to going to lab each week.
Very kind professor! Willing to help, but not clear about his notes and makes things harder than they need to be. Tests arn't too bad if you read and do the homework. Curves on exams! Sometimes thinks if one person understands that everyone does. Teaches on a little higher level for a 131 course.
Nice guy, but very confusing. He knows alot about CHM and assumes everyone does at the 131 level. GO TO SI if you have him.I learned more in there than I did in class because his notes in class are VERY scattered..no real structure to them. The tests arent too bad, but study the hw assignments to prepare. Tests are curved mildly. No EC.
CHM 131 with Dr. Fahlman is not terrible, especially for a chem. class. I was not a big fan of his notes, but if you attend class, do the homework (worth A LOT of points), and do well in class, you can get an A. The homework especially is helpful, because that is all he tests you on. If you can do the homework, which he helps with, you'll be OK.
Very nice guy and passionate about chemistry, but he likes to jump around and teach things we don't need to know yet, which confuses students. His exams include random questions that he never taught us and his homework system is non-interactive, which hurts our learning. I didn't like his teaching, take a different professor if you want to pass.
Dr. Falhman is such a sweet guy but his notes are really scattered as he only uses the board. He's very knowledgeable but assumes every student knows a lot about chemistry. I would definitely recommend going to the SI sessions.
He was great and covered the material well. He will work with you, so long as you are willing to work also. He always has office hours and will go the extra mile if you are willing to put in an extra effort. Overall, an amazing class and professor!
Amazing chemistry professor. Found out he is actually from Canada...who knew? Great guy! Always willing to clarify in class and at his office hours. Started this new program called Alek's...hated that!
Dr. Fahlman was not a good professor at all. Going to class was useless because he posted the filled out power point online. His homework assignments are tedious. I highly suggest switching out to a different professor. He also doesn't take advantage of SI sessions. Very poor quality.
Fahlman was a horrible professor! His notes were very scattered all over, did not clarify the material at all. I learned more by reading the book than attending the lectures.
Dr. Fahlman may have been a little bit scatter brained at first but he gets easier to follow after a while. His exams always include a curve and he is truly a great teacher. He is better on a one on one stand point and is able to help with any confusion
He is a wonderful professor! Very accommodating and understanding. Available whenever you need him, and explains material well. Homework is hard, but he dedicates an ENTIRE class period to answering your questions about it. Curves every test. If you fail his class it's because you didn't try. Very cool and smart guy, I strongly reccomend him! (:
Very hard tests. Homework DOES NOT reflect what will be on the tests. Uses weighted averages because he doesn't know how to calculate raw points. Curves tests, however, test grades are so terrible that class averages are generally between 55-65% before curve. Good luck trying to learn anything from him. Very cocky that comes off as rude.
One of the best in the CHM department.
Dr. Fahlman is a great professor. Although his exams are relatively difficult, he is extremely helpful when you go to office hours. He's trying to do a better job at accommodating to students with confusion over certain concepts in Chemistry. Overall, he's a sweet guy, and decent professor.
This professor is awesome. His grading scale is awesome, because what you would normally think a B+ was, is actually an A- so you have more of a chance of getting an A. He's super helpful, extremely friendly, and just all around a great guy. I recommend this professor!
He is great, he is really trying to help people as much as he can. He is a really sweet guy and you can tell that he loves teaching and chemistry. The material is hard but he curves the tests a lot. Go to SI sessions though and go to every class to at least hear the concept. Taking him for CHM132 for sure. He really looks out for his students.w
Awesome professor. He doesn't utilize office hours, but he's a pretty busy guy. I'd try to take advantage of the office hours he does offer, because he is extremely helpful. He only teaches in Spring-Fall semesters, so be sure to plan accordingly :). Meaning: CHM 131 Spring and CHM 132 Fall
Prof Fahlman is one of the best professors I have ever had! He really cares about his students and is such a sweet guy! Very, very helpful and he heavily curves all of his midterms! I would definitely recommend taking him. It's chemistry so obviously the material is tricky but he does his best to make is enjoyable and understandable. :)
Fahlman is probably my favorite teacher at CMU thus far. He is ALWAYS willing to help, even through his mountains of email, but I recommend going to office hours or just after lecture. He's very knowledgable on the subject and can teach very well. He curves his exams, but only sometimes, and don't expect a huge boost. Minimal homework. TAKE NOTES.
Prof. Fahlman is seriously the funniest, nicest guy I know. He gives HUGE curves on every exam and he makes Chemistry fun and exciting. Honestly the most kind-hearted guy I've ever met.
I'm retaking this class and I wish I had him the first time around. He's a bit scatterbrained at times, but Fahlman is a good professor and will make sure everyone is on the same page when learning new material. Very friendly and approachable as well. He also gives healthy curves on exams, which is nice. Put in effort and you'll do well with him.
Dr. Fahlman is a wonderful guy. He has such a kind heart, great intentions, and is always willing to help. I also had lab with him this semester. He is quite scatterbrained at times, which is really difficult (for me) to deal with. He always tries his best to ensure everyone in the 250 person lecture is on the same page. Overall, a decent prof.
I am not a chem person so this class defeated me, but Dr. Fahlman is still on of the best professors I've ever had. He is funny, intelligent, and cares about his students. You need to go to class or you will fail, there is a lot of material and every lecture builds off of the last one. Fahlman will go over material multiple times if asked to.
I took chem with Squattrito, and absolutely hated it. I wanted to cry everyday. Fahlman is easy to follow, and will answer your question in multiple ways until you understand. He doesn't put me to sleep, and give a lot of insight as to what will be on the ACS finals. Squat almost ruined chem for me. If it weren't for Fahlman I would still hate it!
Prof. Fahlman is a great professor. He's very clear about what he's teaching and always gives opportunities to ask questions. His tests aren't super hard, and the homework program that he uses, while it takes a lot of work, is very helpful and makes it easier to pick up concepts. I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Dr. Fahlman is a great professor, his knowledge is amazing, and his corny jokes have the whole class laughing. He is very kind and always willing to help. His Teaching assistant Simone Lazar, is unknowledgable, rude, and allowed people to cheat by finding answers on their phones. If you did not finish early she rushes you and gives you bad marks:(
He makes CHM 131 so easy. He uses this online homework thing, and if you finish an assignment before the semester starts, he will give you a 3% boost on your final grade. The exams are easy if you study. If you need help, he will literally stop lecturing and do like 10 examples until everyone in the class understands the material. Will curve exams.
Out of any chem 131 professor, you definitely want Fahlman. Lectures are all powerpoint and he gives them to you too. He doesn't use mastering chem which is a life saver. Fahlman's a cool dude and definitely wants the best for his students. I had him for my lab too so I got to know him a little better than usual. Plus the dude drives a Ferrari
It's a chemistry class, you need to go to lecture. I took this teacher for Chem 1 and 2. Very awesome individual out of the classroom but very fair in class. Each exam is curved, and he never tests over material not covered in detail. Many times he drops exam questions of material wasn't thoroughly covered or if many students missed a question.
This is a very hard subject in general. I was confused every single day and had no clue what was going on. But I managed to pass the class with a B+ because of his exams, curves, and homework. I am not exaggerating when I say I was clueless in this class. Good guy! Recommended among other CHM131/132 professors.
It is chemistry, so it is not the easiest thing in the world and he knows this so his grading scale is adjusted nicely. The exams are tough, but there are a lot of factors that go into your grade so it isn't too bad. I am taking him again next semester for 132.
He is a great professor. He really knows his chemistry because he has been teaching it for so many years. I am taking 132 with him right now. He is very helpful and caring. Always go to his office hours because he will give half credit back if you showed your work. He is funny and the homework is a lot of work but it helps balance out the 3 exams.
He is a great professor and I have taken him for 131 and 132. Always go to his office hours because he will give half credit back if you showed your work. The exams are rough in 132 and the final is as well. He is always very helpful when you go to him and ask. He is funny and caring. I would recommend taking him for all chemistry classes.
Take him and be prepared to learn chemistry on your own. He is a funny teacher but sometimes when lectern the gets off topic then goes all over the place. Also for lab if you get a bad TA you are screwed
Loved Fahlman but the Aleks homework is unreal and absolutely terrible
He's a good professor but utilizes the world's most ridiculous homework program, ALEKS. The homework is extremely tedious and I'm not sure why he doesn't just use My Chem Labs like everyone else. Other than that, he seems to be a good professor and very knowledgeable on the material. Answers questions.
Dr. Fahlman is an amazing professor. I understood chemistry better in this class than in high school. Warning he does use a homework system called Aleks that most people didn't like. I was indifferent about it. Overall, you should take CHM 131 with him
Loved this class, would definitely take one of his classes again. Makes class exciting and uses a lot of examples. There was a lot of homework and the program he uses is annoying but it will really help your grade. His grading system makes it easy for everyone to pass.
Awesome prof! Really cares about his students and them succeeding. Offers curves not the exams since there are not many things graded. Attendance is not necessary but does TopHat questions almost everyday to get points. The homework is frustrating but really helps you learn the material. Barely passed chem with Squattrito but Fahlman really helped.
Dr. Fahlman is an amazing professor. Very personable and helpful. He really knows how to teach effectively. He posts all of his power points on blackboard, but you definitely want to go to lecture. He uses this online site called TopHat for participation if you go to lecture. Also there is weekly homework using ALEKS. Take this class with him!
Dr. Fahlman is the best chemistry professor ever, I had squattrito for chemistry 131, and Dr. Fahlman for 132 and the grade difference was huge. He is very nice and gives curves on exams, gives good final exam review the last week of classes. The homework is on Aleks which is annoying, but it really pounds the information. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Fahlman is my favorite professor. He made chemistry fun and interesting. He is super nice and willing to help. He uses a homework program called ALECKS which is different than other professors but it works well and allows you to get 100% on every homework assignment if you are willing to put in the work. He's great!
I took Bradley Fahlman for Chm 131 & 132 and I wish I could have him as a professor again! The material presented was very hard for me to grasp, but his office hours are always open... and he is very passionate and intelligent. He is very kind and more approachable than any other professor I have seen before. He is the best professor for gen chem!
I had Dr. Fahlman for CHM131 & 132, and he is an excellent professor. He uses an online hw system that can get frustrating at times, but only because it requires you to really learn and master the material. He provides an optional practice exam before each midterm that is very similar to the actual exam, so studying for the exams is easy.
He was a funny teacher but often got off topic. His classes are all lecture and exams are very difficult. Would not recommend for 132 again.
I had Dr. Fahlman for CHM 131 and 132. Chem is very difficult and CHM 132 definitely is a hard class but Dr. Fahlman made it somewhat enjoyable and easier to understand. I loved having him for two semesters and wish I could have him again! I would definitely recommend him. Attendance isn't mandatory but there is attendance points.
ALEKS wasn't nearly as bad in this class as it was in 131. Study for exams and do the practice exams too.
This is my 2nd CHM132 class. 1st w/Fahlman. 10/10 better than my 1st prof. Do NOT get too far behind on the homework!! Cannot stress that enough. He's super friendly, go to office hours if you need help with ANYTHING. Powerpoints are online but not the notes from the board (usually worked examples). 100% use SI if offered. Gives practice exams.
Fahlman is a nice guy but sometimes forgets that his students don't know the material as well as he does. He is very good about working with you, even in large lectures. Make sure you take advantage of SI sessions and the outside resources he provides and be ready to teach a lot of material to yourself while doing the homework. No textbook
this is the 2nd class ive taken with fahlman and i wish i could continue my chemistry career with him. c;ass has lots of homework but it helps you learn the material. hes very caring and office hours are helpful and responds to emails fast even at random hours of the night. very good experience in 131 and 132
Super nice guy, but a lot of his tests are very hard. And his lectures often don't cover enough. Would be more helpful if he spent more time going over examples instead of moving on from a topic after 10 mins of talking abt it. However, he is clearly very intelligent and passionate. Had him as a lab instructor too, he was very good in lab.
The homework system ALEKS is a lot. Fahlman is extremely intelligent and very kind. Kind of explains the material in a way that is wayyy more confusing that it needs to be.
prof Fahlman is great but chem is crazy hard defiantly take 131 with him if you can he's the best of the 131 professors!!
Fahlman might be the nicest person I've ever met, he genuinely cares about his students. His tests are very very hard, don't wait til the last minute to study, I only made that mistake once. Go to his office hours, he is very helpful and it's beneficial for him to know your name in an 80-100 student lecture. I would 100% recommend him
Class is not technically mandatory, but if you arent there for the lecture you will have a hard time with this class. The Professor is very nice, If you ask questions he will always take the time to go over the material one more time for you.
He is literally one of my favorite professors. He explains stuff very clearly and takes time to throughly answer questions. He also provides a ton of review material, including review lectures, for all exams. The ALEKs homework can be very time consuming, but I found it pretty helpful in really understanding the material.
Fahlman is a great guy, and good prof. The only reason he is not a 5 and his difficulty level is high is because of ALEKS. Be prepared to do work with ALEKS. However, overall, Fahlman wants his students to succeed, so he does a lot to make sure it happens. Definitely recommend him.
Fahlman is a great professor. He cares a lot about he success of his students. There is an online homework platform that he uses which is tough and time consuming but really makes you understand the material. He is always open to questions and answers them in full context. If you do not attend lecture, you will have a hard time in this class.
Good professor who care about his students getting good grades, never makes students feel stupid regardless of how stupid the question is.
Considering I've never taken a chemistry course before coming to uni, I am surprised I got the grade I did. He uses a HW website called "ALEKS" which is very annoying. A lot of my time consisted of YouTube videos and self-teaching as I was very lost during lecture. Fahlman is great but be prepared to teach yourself.
This was my retake of CHM131 and compared to other chemistry professors, he is one of the best. He is very accessible outside of class and is willing to help you through anything. He DID make it easy to study and offered very good resources and practice quizzes. He did hefty curves on exams and allows for points on homework even if its late!
He gives practice exams before the exams which are similar to the exams. He also curves all of the exams and the grade scale is also curved in your favor. Also, he does not give the ACS final exam, he writes his own which is extremely easier than the ACS. I highly recommend taking Dr. Fahlman for this course!
I enjoyed this course. Chemistry is difficult but with the online homework website, it made it very easy to understand. His practice exams were similar to the actual exams. He gives a good amount of resources to help you outside of class including videos that go over concepts learned. Attendance was not mandatory but it definitely helps to show up.
Bradley always gave clear expectations for exams with practice before. His lectures are useful, he uses notes and example problems. The homework Aleks is tedious but achievable if you give yourself enough time to do it, and he will help you on it. Chem132 is hard but his teaching style helped. Would recommend him over the other options for 131/2.
He is a great guy, and I love his personality. He uses a website called ALEKS for homework, make sure this is done within the week so you don't have to worry about it and get a good idea of the content. When preparing for exams, make sure to go over the practice exams and get a good foundation based on that to score well.
His lectures were great, he assigned about an hour of homework a week on Aleks, and gave practice tests. If you want to do well I recommend not skipping lectures, do the homework, and all practice tests. If you simply show up you will likely fail.
I really liked his class. Good lectures with in-class questions through active. I hated the ALEKS homework but it honestly helped me learn. He curves his tests well and doesn't give the ACS test at the end of the year, he writes his own. Made chemistry enjoyable. I would take him if you can.
Professor Fahlman is extremely helpful and cares about his students. The coursework is challenging but manageable with the online homework platform, study sessions, and unstuckstudy - a great resource for chemistry prep.
Very approachable when asking questions, but doesn't do very good lectures. He is never in synch with the lab, and doesn't tell you what to study for exams. He does curve exams a couple points, but thats literally because everyone in that class had an average of a 60% on exams. Wouldn't recommend.
He is a really nice guy, will help you if you reach out, but a terrible professor. He teaches you as if you already know the material, so you basically have to teach it to yourself after the lecture. He is not very organized, and doesn't say many things that make sense.
I have never taken chemistry before until I came to university and need to take chemistry for my major. The lab professor was more helpful than him! Tried emailing him for help but he was pushing to just ask him questions after class and not really make an office appointment to get a better understanding. Quite a few students would ask questions.
Very nice person, will help you if you reach out, but does not teach very well.
If you notice that EVERYONE is saying they didn't understand the class, it it because the pre-rec is that you have ALREADY taken CHM either in high school or have a college credit for it. Dr. Fahlman was wonderful and the class was very easy since I have taken CHM before. He have amazing lectures and was the most passionate prof. I have met.
He was a great professor, even though the class was hard, he tried to make sure that everyone understood. The grade distribution was very helpful for passing the class, and the homework was online. As long as you attend class and vocalize your struggles in his class, he will help you make sure the material is clear.
He's very nice but doesn't explain things more than once, so if you miss it in lecture, you really have to attend office hours. The homework is online and doesn't give you notifications. The homework can take 20 minutes to several hours.
Super nice guy, but doesn't know how to teach. He goes over things once and just expects you to understand. He doesn't answer emails very quickly if at all even though he says he does, and the material he teaches never lines up with lab. He makes the exams super long and doesn't give enough time to complete them.
