Very unclear and he himself does not know anything about Physics. Very boring lectures, hard to stay awake. The notes are messed up. Midterms kinda hard but possible. Don't take him unless you want to study from other people notes or on the text.
I found him to be really interactive and passionate about the material.
He is the best teacher. I mean what can you expect.Easy mid term and easy gimmie assignment marks!I always hated physics but my idea was changed after his class
his notes are messed up! very hard to understand.i usually just studied the text or notes from extra study guides that i bought.his notes really don't make sense!he is a nice guy though. midterms are alright. they always seemed to go better than i thought
I found him to be really passionate and he puts a lot of work into the lectures. I was impressed.
This guy is boring, i get lost after he says the 3rd word and i learnt nothing thus far. I don't recommend him unless you have no other choice. Also asking him for extra help will not work well for you because he can't teach.
he is really good conceptually and he is always willing to give his time after class to help clarify topics. actual midterms are usualy easier then moc-midterms. the only negative is he makes alot of mistakes in his notes which disrupts the flow of class.
GREAT GUY AND PASSIONATE FOR WHAT GOES AROUND THE WORLD AND SOCIETY
Pretty good teacher.
Great Teacher and easy one too
Not a good teacher, he enjoys making things sound as difficult as possible when they are nothing but. Very tricky tests, you can know they textbook, and do poorly on exams.
Nice guy. Makes millions of mistakes on the board. Inexperienced. Not overly helpful. Easy tests. Doesn't take command of class. Unorganized. Passed with an A without doing HW but took phys 11. If not for phys 11 probably would have failed. Want an easy prof? Take him. Want a good prof? Stay away.
he is very dry i was under the impression through out the whole semester that he was a new teacher and was nervous teaching.
This teacher is the absolute best physics teacher on the planet. I ABSOLUTLY HATED PHYSics before going to his class. Now, it is my favorite subject, i'm doint the best in it and dare i say i even find it interesting. His exams are very fair.i will only do physics in his class from now on.RECOMENDED
I think it is so hard. I don't get it!! sometimes he explains not clear enough...not really helpful. However he is a nice teacher.
Not a terrible, but his lectures are not always clear and he doesn't have much office hours so going to him for help is near impossible. His midterms are pretty easy.
this guy is weird but agood teacher only problem is he cant accept his mistakes in your exam and change your mark.overall he`s ok dont worry
he is sooo boring, very cold and unapproaching, can not explain clearly ,he seems to be a little confuse ,I hope him to be at least fair in marking.
he is so unhelpful, he teaches us lots of mistakes ,instead of teaching the correct way, why do the phy. department let him teach this course when he does not know anything?
he is helpful during his office hours, very kind ,just a little bit cold compare to my other teachers.
Disrespectful, very cold, selfish, not knowing and not being passionate about physics. but his personality and his attitude toward other teachers are quite different. Choose one personality!!!!
very nice person, very caring and tries to be helpful
=) Bradley is really nice. He's really helpful. If you go to him for help, he'll help you even if you're not taking his class. His lecture's aren't thrilling but they're decent.
Bradley is great! He is very interested in the subject and it shows with his teaching. He is very helpful and he really wants his students to do well. I really recommend him.
very nice teacher, very fair marker, cares about his students and can realize who works hard in his class.
Seemed a little awkward and nervous at first, but I found him friendly and helpful and an easy teacher to get along with. Even if he can't spell very well. ;)
He can not explain clearly ,he seems to be a little confuse ,I hope him to be at least fair in marking.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! Doesn't know how to teach a class to save his life. Everything is so unclear and his notes on the board are chicken scratch. I was doing fine in physics and now I have to retake this damn class!
Well to be honest he is not a BAD prof, just a little weird....actually VERY weird. Through my semester he gave three exams and all of them fluctuated a LOT in terms of format and difficulty. His pace is inconsistent, plus he doesn't do useful sample questions in class, which made it hard to understand the concepts from just lectures.

Bradley Hughes really tries, but he just can't teach. Everything he says is from the text book. He doesn't know anything else, other than what is straight from the book. If you ask him a question in class, most likely he will say "I don't know". Usually he says that like 15 times per class. He is though, EXTREMELY easy to get a good grade.
I found his teaching method to be very unorganized. His lectures definately lacked preparation and his notes are almost nonexistant. His exams are not very hard but they are hard to study for with his notes. He's quite unclear in explanations but he is very nice and is willing to help. If you take his course your textbook is your best friend!
Well considering I haven't taken Physics before.. I found myself pretty lost in his class, his notes were very unorganized so it was very hard to understand, he also makes a lot of mistakes on the board, that adds to it too... You must study on your own or find help, or else you'll be doomed in his class.
I don't think Bradley is a bad teacher. He just takes some getting used to. I found him quite easy to understand. There are not a lot of notes but if you take down the examples he does, it is super helpful. If you dont understand something, you can ask him and he is very nice!
He tries hard to teach, but students tend to get lost. And when students don't understand, i dont understand why students dont ask questions. He is an extremely nice teacher tho, i missed a midterm and he let me omit the term and he didnt even look at my doctors note.
Amazing prof, great class. If you find him difficult you will not have any further success in another physics class. Midterms were easy if you practiced 'recommended' problems. Extremely helpful and nice person.
too nice. too easy. which is a good thing I guess lol
Super easy. Ive taken physics 12 this is really easy stuff for me but the way he explains things is really overdoing it. Tests are very very easy however i lost marks because i didnt show "proper" work(the way he does it).if you know the formulas and stuff then u can get a 80%+ without doing it his way which is what i got. only need c for 1118
Great Prof! Really easy as long as you show up and do the work
One of those insanely highly intelligent people. Totally laid back, easy to approach. Not sure what to say about his teaching ability though. I think he would be a great 3rd or 4th year prof.
one word:EASY. I have never taken physics..EVER. and he made it very easy and broke down complex ideas into bite size pieces. If you've never taken a physics class Brad is the way to go!
he is.. the chillest teacher ever LOL. he's really easy-going. He's a little clumsy and often makes algebra mistakes. and.. something about the way he walks is funny LOL also when you ask him something, he'll always say "it's up to you"
Very nice teacher!!!Love him so much LOL! Very helpful! teaching method is very good!!! set up group work, we can easy to understand. Let the course much more interesting! GOOD TEACHER! HOPE HE CAN TEACH ME AGAIN!!!!
Best teacher in the world!!! Very helpful and interesting!!! lovely teacher. I would happy to take his course again! miss him so much...haha. very suggest you guys take his course!!!!!!
Best teacher ever--not his teaching style, but everything else is great! He's probably the most laid back teacher you'll ever come across. Although, he likes to get you thinking by saying "it's up to you" whenever you'd ask him something. He's smart, but sometimes, he does make BIG mistakes that'll throw you off. Great for First Year Students!
patient, knowledgeable, approachable, everything you want from a prof who teaches (particularly those that teach one a coarse called: engineering mechanics). I took 1219 without having calculus 2 (which should, be a prereq, because you will be integrating), and he was willing to help me until I was able to get from acceleration to position with no
he doesnt explain. a nice guy, but lame teacher. waste of class time, 1 example/2hrs of class!!! no structure, disorganized, boring.
What some call laid back, I'd call lack of professionalism. The book he uses is just as useless as his lectures.
This guys a space cadet, a nice space cadet mind; He's leader of Lagara's Socialst club. Again, a nice guy, very much in the physics from the same angle as you. He'll ask a question, and when you ask him if your solutions correct he'll say "I don't know, lets find out" and work through it --apparently for the first time himself-- on the board.
I gotta agree with the comment below, this guy is useless, and his "lectures" will give you neuron attrition. He doesn't know how to teach, he definitely should take some teaching classes to improve his lectures.
Brad you rule. He offered a simple history of science class and it was the funnest class I have ever took. He was innovative, interesting and extremely helpful. He made science rock. I still have my text, and refer to it, I loved it so much...and I cannot out calculate a goldfish. Thank you for that course Brad.
The textbook choice is terrible, the classes are a waste of time. Might as well learn the concepts through the internet.
He is one of the best physics teachers Ive had so far. he explains things clearly and willing to help . As long as you do the assignments and attend to tutorials and class , You can get a good grade in this class. Midterms and finals are Fair . I would highly recommend him.
Terrible teacher, you'll get a good mark but you won't learn anything. If you plan on taking another physics class after this one you'll be very confused.
i dont know what the people down there says...but this guy is a terrible teacher. unless u are able to learn by urself, every class it's just basically going through examples after examples. he doesnt teach unless ur definition of teaching is doing problems along with u. do not take this teacher if u like taking notes and explanation.
He is very nice, and his exam is not hard.
Great teacher, made lectures fun and super easy going! It's great to have a chill relaxed teacher who is always willing to help. I would recommend taking Bradley's class, even I you're not into physics he will find a way to make it interesting!
Great Prof, would take his class again anytime. Really enjoyed his style of teaching and the fact that he is always willing to do what he can to make you like Physics.
Bradley is hands down the worst teacher I've ever had, by far. He literally covers no material at all; 2-3 textbook questions a class, which should take 15-20 minutes instead of the whole 2 hour class. He has no confidence in himself and is extremely disorganized. If you need to take further physics courses after his, you are screwed.
A course with Bradley has its ups & downs. He is very friendly and helpful when you have a question; otherwise, he is very vague with course content. He assigns 3-5 q's from the textbook in class (should take 30 minutes MAX) but he takes the whole 2 hours. Not helpful. I ended up teaching myself most of the content via online videos.
Bradley is such an awesome and helpful professor. He teaches about real-life problems that require lots of thinking. When we are working on problems, he would walk around to check/help us. He is always encouraging me & my fellow classmates to have confidence in ourselves in solving problems & life itself. I would definitely take his class again :)
This is an excellent class to take if you want to boost your GPA. I don't know how anyone could say anything bad about Bradley. He is one of the nicest, most soft spoken, supportive instructors I've ever had. If you don't do well in his course you should just give up on post secondary right now.
You get to do exams in groups. Easy A.
Bradley is a chill guy and his class is pretty easy considering the fact that all your assignments and midterms are done in groups and it's take home... but his questions for the assignments and midterms are very eh and confusing. I don't feel like I've learned much in his class so far except how to estimate numbers for his assignments.
just one word "AWESOME", you must quit physics if you can't get good grades in his course. Just do as he says, quizzes and midterms in groups, bonus grades ( worth 10% of total course). Doesn't cut marks without a good reasons, silly mistakes are waived, what else you want ? Read on your own, he does couple of problems only, max. 3 per class
he is a good instructor, and you should do well in his class.
Very easy going and chill but gives 1-2 questions for the whole 2 hour class. He doesn't explain things entirely well. Take-home group assignments/midterms are okay for the most part but some questions are extremely ambiguous and vague, to the point where you don't know how to start them or how in depth one must answer them to receive full marks.
midterms can be done in groups at home
I wish I visted rate my professor before I took his class. He is absolutely useless, his classes are a waste of time you can teach yourself better than listening to this guy. The only thing this guy will teach you is how easy it can be to throw tuition money down the drain.
Bradley is a very generous prof and as long as you follow his instructions you will both learn and get a good mark from him
he is a good professor
Firstly, Bradley is a very nice guy, and its very easy to get an A in this course. However he explains almost nothing and starts the classes by having you try to derive the formula for the topic he has yet to introduce. He then gives the formula and does 2-3 practice questions. Thats it. Don't take if you need more physics courses or understanding.
The entire class was about group work. Weekly assignments, 2 midterms, and a final all done in groups. The weekly assignments and midterms are take-home. He devotes about an hour at the end of each week to allow students to work on the assignment, and he looks over any work you've already done, which I highly suggest.
very easy prof, a free A, group assignments, midterms, finals, everyone gets an A, he is a very strong socialist/communist, here is the problem: no one tries in his class, nor does he teach anything useful, you simply just ask him questions to get answers, you learn almost nothing so if you are planning on taking more physics, please avoid.
Bradley is a very nice teacher, gives good feedback and is always willing to help students out that need it.
Assignment, midterm and finals are in groups.
Great teacher. Great class. 10/10
Very nice and chill prof. Everything is in groups. However, he sometimes overexplains concepts which lead to confusion and the assignment questions he gives out are very vague so it's best to ask questions to double-check if you're on the right track. Wouldn't really recommend if you want to take further physics with him but if you do, good luck.
Bradley is a solid choice for physics! Sometimes you get the sense that things could be explained just a little bit more, but I really enjoyed his style. He really cares about students, teaching, and physics. Take him!
NOTE: My review is when I took Bradley's class in Spring 2020 (early corona transition) Bradley adopts a similar techniques I like by some profs here at ubc physics: 1) student presentations 2) democracy for the syllabus 3) Groups for finals Unfortunately post lockdown, things went south with the 'asynchronous shock' and classes are unorganized
Amazing professor that gets you to think in his course. You will have to make assumptions for some values in his assignments but he is very open and helpful to questions. As a non physics major mending the course for credits, he has made it very straightforward and achievable.
Bradley is a very caring and understanding professor. He is very accessible outside of class, and is generous with his assignment deadlines. I was very behind on my homework assignments and instead of giving me 0 he let me complete all the ones I was missing before the final and gave me full marks. Amazing teacher.
Don't ever take any course with him. He doesn't even know how to teach the easiest material and he reads it from an A4 paper. Problem is that he can't even explain his material and you can't learn anything from it!!! He has assignments every week, and he wants you to grade it by yourself!!! He is the worst instructor that I got in my whole life:)))
Bradley caters to the self-directed learning style rather than the traditional rote system. He helps out in any way you can imagine (ask!) during the duration of the course, and his reading quizzes before class help with the flow of understanding the material. Just make sure to take notes, as it can become confusing sometimes. Overall very good
Bradley makes his lessons very interesting by doing both the hands on approach and a lecture part. He goes out of his way to make sure his students get the help they need. This instructor made me look at Physics from different areas.
Easiest physics class I have ever taken. Show up to class and do the in class assignments properly, and you will be fine. Exams and midterms are done in groups, so make sure you look for some competent groupmates!!
You get to choose your grade. He barely teaches. Good if you just want the credit and don't plan on taking more physics courses. He is also a politically active socialist/communist.
Weird class. You pick your own grades, group & open book exams, questions involve estimating & you aren't given values. If you want an A, take this class, if you will take more physics classes in the future & want to learn & be prepared, AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. Prof is an extremely woke socialist. I 100% regret ever taking this class.
His lectures are as whimsical as his assignments and if you're ok with being confused the entire semester and want an easy A take him. If you want to build a good foundation and have a solid understanding of the topics being taught, I'd strongly recommend against him. Everything done in this class feels like a huge waste of time, should've dropped.
I would recommend this course with Bradley if you want an easy mark. However, if you need this course as a prerequisite, I would not recommend! Assignments and midterms are done in groups. Make sure to copy what Bradley writes on the board! There are weekly quizzes, and you have unlimited tries to get a perfect score!
Classes are very easy. Problems are easy to solve as long as you pay attention in class. One thing I didn't like was that you can mark your own assignments, who knows what other students did. Also in midterms and exams not only you could work in groups but they were also open note. You could literally use your phone….?
Awesome had him last semester and he was fantastic!! he made the class lectures easy to understand and he was super helpful.. looking forward to taking 1118 with him in the near future (hopefully)
He has an interesting way of teaching, you get to mark your own midterms and assignments but he marks your final which was more difficult than the others. He's quite chill and nice but focuses too much on woke politics and literally incorporates it into the course.
Like 80% of your mark is literally self determined (you mark yourself) with the exception of the final and a project. Quizzes also have infinite attempts so basically this class is the easiest A you'll every have. However, if you care about actually learning the material you'd probably be better off self learning or taking another prof
A very good Prof. just Take if you can.
His assignments are like, 5% about physics, 95% about making the assignment /midterm look pretty for him. Also, he love using lots of repetitive and tedious calculations in exam and assignments to overwhelm you, which is not really physics. Avoid if possible.
The assignments and midterms are easy in terms of calculation, but his markings are so weird. He and his TAs are obsessed with units and drawings/diagrams, and if you don't follow his instructions or write what he wants, you will get hard punishment. I mean, this is a physics class, not a "how to write unit" class. Show some respect for Physics.
Bradley is a great instructor, his marking scheme seems weird but is really straightforward so it is easy to get marks. He sometimes overcomplicates things when explaining confusing concepts in lecture or calculates things weirdly. Otherwise, he is a great instructor!
Bradley is a nice professor who believes that learning is best done through teamwork with your peers. You get marks for diagrams, units, equations, etc. rather than solely on final answer. The class isn't too bad if you can recall things you learned in gr11/12, being mainly textbook learning. There's 10% up for grabs from weekly online quizzes.
