Good God! Very nervous in large groups, very smart but expects too much!

Not nearly as bad as everyone thinks
SOOOOOO MONOTONE!!!
Kind of boring but explains concepts well.
very interesting and focused, really connected through web ct.
Monotone, but a good prof. Great notes and very helpful, good at explaining concepts, reasonably easy exams.
Have you ever seen anyone sweat that much???!
boooooooooooring. but out of the two biol classes this is the more interesting.
Sure he's monotone, but his notes are good and his tests are fair. You say he sweats a lot? Do you think he can help that?!? Maybe he's just as embaressed about this as you are disgusted by it. lay off.
really knows his stuff but his voice puts u to sleep. u need lots of coffee
good notes, fair exam
NO GOOD
very dull voice, hard to sit through an hour, but he does give good notes...the powerpoint slides are very helpful.
I thought he was awesome. His practice mid terms are extremely useful hint hint go to the workshops and you will basically have the exam word for word! Very easy class. If you listen to what he has to say it is not boring.
his final is obscure, his handwriting is atrocious. he is awful.
ok he screws u over for the final bigtime!!! That's all I gotta say about this one
The best biol prof in the Fall 2003 Semester. His MT was a joke. Although his final was a little tough, it was so much easier than the other professors (no written essays, only MC and Short Answer). Study and you'll do fine. Got an A+ in the course
hes really slow. I mean, powerpoint lectures arent that fun, especially when you have the notes printed out infront of you. I didnt learn anything this way. And for the person who got an A+, good job, but u must have done some extra work :P
such a boring class, has a mono toned voice that put u to sleep
The MT was misleadingly easy as the final was DEATH! his notes are right out of the textbook and he's duller than a bag of toenails
I liked the class. He was a great prof. I didn't find him boring at all. The midterm WAS deceptively easy. But the final kicked me all around.
ya, he's a bit boring, but he gets the job done. he tells you what you need to know, and explains everything until he makes sense. he's a good prof, if you can just drink a cup o' coffee before coming to class!!
boring, monotonous, difficult final exam....and on top of it, slightly rude when you visit him at his office. not a prof i would ever recommend.
teach better
Some stuff can be interesting but about 95% of the time i have no clue what he's talking about...his notes are just like headings pretty much....text book comes in handy
Excellent prof
Not a very good prof. Somewhat disorganized, teaches too slowly and not in depth compared to other sections. Did not finish the material for the semister. Needs to learn how to write sentences properly, his sentences do not have proper grammer or sentence structure. Though the class is fairly esay.
There are better Bio 107 profs. Didn't even finish the course and just doesn't seem to like teaching this course for some reason.
good prof, his teaching and explanation were very clear if you bothering listening. he did a good job. MT was easy, final's tough but fair. boter coming to class, and you'll do relaitively good.
Yikes, he sucks, i feel asleep every single day in his class, the head bob was inevitable. Loved Bio before, hated it after. Midterm alright, final pretty hard. Meh
He is an okay prof, exams are fair. Go to workshop and go to class, u will do okay.
Very monotonous, very boring. The workshops help a lot. If you try really hard to pay attention you can do good.
boring hard exams his notes are incomplete very hard to understand after a couple of days doesn't finish the course
I don't think Dr. Major is as bad as some of these reviews make him out to be. He is a tad boring- okay I needed to suck on hard candy to stay awake. But if you can stay awake, he gives you all the info you need to do well. Suck it up first years, the profs get far worse than him. Far worse.
You had to suck on more than candy to rate him all 5's, buddy. Magor should do everyone at the U of A a favour and take up sewing or something where he need not be in public.****ty prof. Hand-drawn diagrams on a final?? What is this, grade 9? There are many better profs than Magor. Craptacular.
his notes dont really make sense and are hard to study off. he didnt finish the course material because too many students asked stupid questions that didnt apply to this course.that wasnt his fault.he tried to make the class less boring but didnt really suceed.
Fantastic teacher. Great, clear, concise explanations. Interesting side notes. His notes are usually good and to the point, helpful for studying.
i'm suprised how bad some of the teachers are at this university. magor isnt one of them though, not by a long shot. when your prof spends half of every other class trying to figure out what he did wrong in his own problem (degeling) then we'll talk. magor just talks too much about boozing it up.
-great notes...mid-term very easy but final more difficult...talks a lot about alcohol for some reason which was funny at first but kind of got annoying...no need for textbook, he tells you everything you need to know!!! Overall great prof with experienced knowledge and who is very fair and honest!
Great guy, lectures are a little boring and I'd have to admit I feel asleep during some lectures. Exams are fair.
Very boring monotone voice, no need for text, everything from lecture notes which are on webct, this allows you to pay even less attention and get bored
Doesn't add a ton to the lectures in terms of required knowledge, but his anecdotes can be interesting/amusing. Midterm was a bit of a joke- we collectively slapped him there, but be warned: he slaps you back on the final. Seminars themselves are unnecessary, but look at the online seminar stuff.
Not a fair teacher, expectations too high, doesn't explain concepts clearly and doesn't treat students with respect.
When I had him, he drew diagrams by hand (veryyyy crudely) and said "label it" -- I couldn't even tell the front and tail end of the organism. You don't have to buy a text for his class though. Nice guy but doesn't really know how to teach.
Horrible teacher. On his exams, u need 2 study EVERY LAST DETAIL of his notes to do well. **Make sure you attend the seminar/workshops.** I suggest u find another teacher 4 Bio 107! If u stay, GOOD LUCK! His notes, powerpoint and notes added in class, sometimes don't make sense when u r studying!
Go over powerpoints and the class is a joke.
He's not a bad lecturer, although his monotonous voice drove me to sleep a few times (& I usually never sleep in class). His exams ask for details, but it's just like any other biology-related class at University. He utilizes Powerpoint notes relatively well & you don't need to study the textbook.
Seroiusly now. My high school schedule consisted of vending machine breaks and short naps during bio class. How can anyone find this stuff hard? If you have to take a class on cell bio, you LAUGH if you get a Magor, becuase this was just HS bio. Cell membrane, virus, DNA?? HAHAHAHAHA. Effortless A
Good prof, but not for everyone.
Terrible. He couldn't explain the material well. I had to go to the TA"s for most of it. But as he kept reminding us, he has "tenure" and so he'll be around for a bit even though it was evident that he didn't care about teaching or bio 107 for that matter.
terrible. his notes are all over the place, he explains concepts badly. His analogies are horrible! the exam was more difficult than what is taught, but if you memorize the notes(powerpoint and written) then you will do good.
Boring Class. Tests for memorization rather than application of concepts. Huge class size
this is a great prof; but not for everyone because you are expected to study what is covered in class. Exams are very fair and pretty easy if you study. I was very disappointed in my class average of 54%, i mean his class was a easy in comparison to prichard or harrington. His notes were kind of messy though - other than that thumbs up for sure
I just finished my bio 107 with him and if you're not sitting front and center and taking notes at the key things which he usually says(along with important notes he takes...which paralell with his ppts) and memorize them you should be okay..or 3 days before the final you can memorize the textbook and you'll be fine..he's a nice guy..you know hahaa
Pulling out your own teeth with rusty pliers would be more fun than sitting through his lectures. Tests rope memorization, not application of knowledge. Boring, messy notes, boring, huge classes, boring, doesn't give a**** about students, boring, pointless tests, boring. Better off just reading the text on your own. Good way to spend $500, h
EXTREMELY boring class, he has a very monotone voice. The number of ppl that actually showed up for his class was just sad. Sometimes tests on concepts that seem completely irrelevant. Makes good use of powerpoint, but his overhead notes are chicken scratch. A lot of memorization. MEMORIZE EVERYTHING and you will be fine.
Gives boring lectures. Talks with an "um" every four seconds or so, making class really boring. Trying to read his overhead notes gives headaches.
his powerpoint notes are helpful, but just make sure you SHOW UP FOR HIS CLASS, add to his notes, and really listen to him~ his mid-term was extremely hard, i don't think he really intend for us to have such a hard time on it. his final exam was easy. also, he will try to answer your questions to the best of his ability
Good teacher. All you have to do is print off his powerpoint notes before class, and show up. Write down everything he does, and study only the notes. There is no need to look into the textbook when studying. I remember him even telling us that too. Its only memorization.
Really monotonous and boring. Overhead notes are unorganized and very hard to read. Midterm was really hard, final was a little easier.

interesting
seriosuly I hate his handwriting and his sentense structures...other than that he is a good prof who knows his stuff. Both Midterm and Final were easy, memorize everything even chemical structures... Oh he loves to talk about how to get high and alcohol and stuff.
O Magor, what a guy. This course was ridiculously easy. Midterm, if you studied at all was free marks, final was at worst, tricky. Good jokes, lectures are OK. This course, come to think of it, basically IS bio 30 AP. Pretty good pretty good.
He does not know how to write exam questions. He is nice, but he will give out vague examples in class, and then ask about them on the exam. This isnt so bad, but it's made worse when he tells us that he only tests us on concept questions.
He was an okay prof, but he was a bit monotonous (seriously ensure that you got a goodnight sleep before his class) and his overhead notes were definately unorganized. He was pretty easy to follow along with and he tried to make the material understandable. He was an okay prof. Nothing to panic about.
He seems like a nice guy, the content is fairly easy, but his exam structure/questions are confusing and not written well. On most days its hard to stay awake.
Oh where to begin... hes a generally nice guy, just not the greatest prof. Lecture material was interesting but not interesting enough to prevent frequent napping. He also tends to repeat himself in the notes he writes on the side, apparently not realising they are already in the powerpoint with a few words different. Tests are worded strangely.
If you get bored easily, dont attend this class..He is pretty monotonous and boring..He seems very interested in teaching..but just doesnt teach too welll..Tests were sometimes a bit confusing.
Well, just finished the final for this guy. Honestly, I learned the class from grade 12 and about 3 full-day study sessions after the term. The midterm was awful for most, 55% avg. Definately prefered Prichard in 108, I fell asleep in most of Magor's classes. Nice guy though, unfortunately.
Terrible teaching and even worst tests. I still don?t know why he would come up with those exam questions. You?d think that the power point slides tell you everything you need to know, but he forgets to put there a whole lot of lecture material. Also, he doesn?t have any office hours. Overall, he is ?a little less than ok?.
He is a bad public speaker. Makes the course incredibally boring.
the "grand-fatherly" type. Seems like a nice person but lectures are boring, monotonous. Only a bit of extra material taught in lectures on the exam. Can do well without attending lectures but following text. If you DO go to lectures, coffee is a MUST.
His lectures were exremely dry; they put me to sleep on many occasions. His final exam questions will make you question your sanity, because he seems to pull questions from past exams even though he stopped teaching the material. He stutters alot as well, which slows down the clock even more. Not recommended unless you have venti sized coffee.
I don't understand why university lets some ridiculous profs like him teach a core course like 107. His exams are the most random stuff ever. If you actually pay attention, he does discuss interesting information but overall, he is so monotone and boring! If you are willing to memorize everything, you are golden. I would take another prof, tho.
Magor was VERY monotone. Avoid at all costs. The material is good but the professor definitely isn?t!
I never slept so well in a lecture. Horrible notes, skips basic things, on tests he will refer to specific overheads he talked about months ago that weren't part of the posted notes. Terrible.
Great guy but Notes are TERRIBLE. MONOTONOUS. BORING. Powerpoints are absolutely terrible, so try to make your own notes. They're from 10 years ago and haven't been updated. Bad prof.
This prof, I thought, appeared a little bit 'absent minded'. He always mumbled the lectures, he never seems interested in what he's doing (maybe he's tired of his career?). Of the entire term there was maybe 1 joke made by him...His exams r really straight forward and fair. If u take his class make sure you shoot a venti sized coffee before class.
HOLY CRAP HE TESTS HARD. If you do not attend his lectures and write down what he writes on the overhead you will not pass this class. His notes are garbage and his tests are RIDICULOUSLY specific. On the plus side, you don't have to buy a textbook though! Pray for the curve in his class.
WORST PROF EVER!!!
Wow, this prof is something. His notes are terrible and his lecture is terrible. His exams test on such irrelevant stuff. I did not know a class could be this bad. Avoid at all cost unless you don't care about your gpa.
Good Prof, and he knows his stuff, but lectures can be sometimes sleepy. He knows his stuff, and he wants to help, but sometimes he finds it hard to explain. The course material was pretty cool. The first time i found my eyes shutting in a lecture was in one of Dr. Magor's lectures. He is Okay when looking @ overall quality, but try to stay awake!
Dr. Magor was a nice guy! However, he was difficult to pay attention too. The lectures made you feel sleepy! His notes were not good either. They were not effective, because they just went over the stuff, and didn't explain everything in detail. He says that you can use just his notes, but I had to use the textbook. His exams were not that hard.
Magor means well, but his notes are a gong show not to mention his tests! There is really no point in printing the powerpoints because he writes so much on the overhead that there isnt room to fit it all on the powerpoint. He asks the most random questions on his tests so averages are low. Bring your Venti and ride the curve!
Dr. Magor has good intentions: he wants to teach a text book free class that teaches underling concepts but his execution is poor. Lectures are filled with long examples that turn out to be irrelevant to the course and his ppts lack the info he actually tests you on. Test questions are tricky but the practice exams are exactly replicas. Good Luck!
He bored me to death, make sure u drink half a cup of coffee before his class. Tough midterm, confusing. he tests ur logical reasoning abilities not what u know bout biology. Final was better, perhaps becoz I studies ALOT for it.He is a nice guy tho and good sense of humor that appears sometimes. I HATE cell biology. Loved 108 and hated 107 `
Dr. Magor seemed like a sweet sweet man. But unfortunately his class wasn't that great. It was hard to stay awake in this class but the exams were fair. Make sure to listen in class and understand all examples.
Seemed genuinely interested in the material he was covering. Spoke clearly and was willing to answer questions or clarify. Exams were short answer like all other higher level imin courses. Honestly a much much better imin prof than his wife. Overall I really liked him.
Really great professor. Yes, he is a bit monotone, but he is very interested in the material, which makes it much more exciting for everyone else. He is incredibly helpful when you ask him questions.
He is very helpful whenever you have a question inside or outside of class. His lectures are a bit dry but his exams are all out of the power point slides. His questions in exams tend to be very specific, though. Over all, Dr Magor was a pretty good professor.
His exams are based on his powerpoint slides. Make sure to review them throughly. Textbook use was minimal. He tends to repeat midterm questions on the Final exam so remember your mistakes on the midterm! Make sure to pay attention in class.
I found Brad to be very enthusiastic about the material and funny, which made it fun to follow along in lecture and get into the content. Also, there isn't too much content since the course is half discussion of papers -- which was actually my favourite part of the class. They're easy marks if you can get them in the beginning of the semester.
I've been an insomniac for 3 years now. Overall it is usually a battle for me to get to sleep and normally takes 2-3 hours before I can finally pass out. However, I managed to video one of Magor's lectures and that puts me out like a light. This guy is incredibly monotone but overall his exams are fair and he's super nice down to earth guy.
expect a low 50 average on the midterm...
Very lecture heavy. There are no quizzes in the class so if you do poorly on midterm good luck getting a good grade. very dry. Need textbook to learn, as his lectures go on about irrelevant stuff, but spends barely anytime on the important stuff that you find in his exams.
His voice may be as flat as a tire but he has his perks as a professor. Participation marks for in class quizzes twice a week. He gives advice about the future at the end of a lot of his lectures which I thought was sweet. His notes are a bit disorganized. Tests are fair, a lot of application questions too.
This class was literally the worst class ever. His ppts make no sense, there is no organization, his lectures are so dry. His exams are so tough and designed to trick you at every turn. The exam content is random and does not test your knowledge on the course. If you care about your GPA avoid this prof. Thank god for the lab or I wouldn't pass.
There is one MT and final which are both exceeding difficult in its wording, choices, content. Use the textbooks because his notes are useless garbage. But sometimes he tests random details on the slides that are completely irrelevant to the overall course. There are participation marks but its not worth sitting in his dry lectures. Dont recommend.
Pretty tough course. Had him for this past semester so half of our semester was online. He will put you to sleep in seconds because he is so monotone. He is super specific and seems to dwell on some random details but do listen to him as he usually includes this on the tests. Averages for our class were <50%. Not the best not the worst.
He's a nice guy but doesn't understand the fact that 1st year university student would not know the language of a PhD Biologist. The final was nothing like the class notes or textbook. He wanted you to know about the material as much as him. He does give helpful tips on fridays and has great jokes. But if u want a A. Don't take him.
His lectures were interesting and I enjoyed the topics he taught in the class. He explains the topics well and has a good grasp on the information he is teaching. I don't know if he meant to come across this way but when going over an exam with him he wasn't very helpful and made me feel bad about asking him to go over the exam with me.
I enjoyed Dr. Magor's section of IMIN 371 the most. Everything you will be tested on is right there on the lecture slide - no tricks. He does give you one question on the exam which is not from the lecture but he does mention it verbally and even tells you he will test that tidbit so listen carefully! Dr. Magor is very fair, helpful, and lenient.
Extremely fair and straightforward questions. I did not have a problem with his lectures or exams. However, I found this course unorganized and there was clearly a lack of communication between profs. Dr. Magor consistently had technical difficulties with SEM, making a closed book final unproctored.
