One of the best prof's i have ever had, class is very very fun and interesting, i recommend taking this class, hes a great guy and comes to class with a great attitude everyday.
By far the best prof. I have had yet in college. His teaching style is great and he is really funny. His class is awesome, great professor!
this man is hilarious, but he also actually teaches you a lot. he's very flexible, so always give him your opinion on how the class is working.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
OMG WHAT AN AMAZING TEACHER!!!! I WISH I HAD MORE TEACHERS LIKE HIM. I CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE MORE OF HIS CLASSES!!!
Interesting class but teacher is kind of a jerk. Had a 79.9 average and teacher refused to round to an 80.
Great professor. Exams are fair, must do reading though. Awesome guy who knows his stuff.
He is the best professor i've met in my life. home made krispie bars, treat fridays, open discussions, everything, he's pretty cool and extremely flexible. take his classes!
very hard, need to study a lot...
stay away...
Soc of Rel. Extremely diff class and he was so disorganized. His study guides are useless and he did not know how to teach this course. Very tough grader. He's useless during his office hours. He wont answer any of your Qstns. Quite frankly, he is very full of himself. Much more concerned with his research than teaching the class, and this showed.
I cant believe people didn't like Prof. Wright. He is one of the best professors I have ever had. Sociology of Religion is kind of difficult and requires a lot of reading, but class is very interesting. Great class and an exceptional professor. A MUST take at UConn.
Criminology with Dr. Wright was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. He used survey data from his larger courses to illustrate each theory we studied. Tests were multiple choice and easy for those who studied and did the reading. Then again, not everyone realizes that to do well in college, you have to actually study a little.
Crystal clear on what he expects from you. He makes the class interesting, you watch a movie every Friday. You do have to attend class but are allowed some absences. Best study guides I've ever had, as long as you follow them, you're golden.
This man is incredibly nice and helpful. It is truly difficult to get lower than an A, as the content is so commonsense and clear. You have to be REALLY lazy to do poorly. Lots of extra credit, quiz drops, and opportunities to succeed. Cool material as well. Loved it, easy A
If you're in honors take it with him. He gets that the honors kids are already smart and skips all the boring vocab-type review and instead assigns cool individual experiments and makes the class super interactive. One of the most interesting classes I've taken yet.
I absolutely love Wright. This class has by far been the best class I've taken at UConn. Not only is the information interesting, but he is HILARIOUS. He makes you want to go to lecture. He grades generously (Curved midterm because he thought average was low), and there are i-clicker quizzes every class, but they're simple if you read. RECOMMEND!!
Brad is honestly the coolest professor I've had here at UConn. I liked him so much I made him my advisor. He's so chill and takes pretty much any chance he gets to crack a joke. Go to his lectures since there are clicker questions for 13 of your grade. 2 exams, not hard, not easy. Don't bother with the book, just read the powerpoint before class.
Brad was honestly one of the best professors I have had at UConn. He was funny, personable, and knowledgeable about the subjects he taught us. It's not often you find a teacher like this. If you do the readings and come to class (clicker questions!), you will do just fine in this class and learn quite a bit! Highly recommended course!!
I did really well on the two exams in this class and I thought that professor Wright was great. He was hysterical and really engaging. However, if you don't stay on top of the readings it is nearly impossible to do well. If you aren't someone who is willing to put the effort in for the readings don't take this class.
By far my favorite professor at UConn. He is the most fair grader in all aspects. If you try, you will succeed. End of story. Do the readings, answer the clicker questions, and fill out the study guides he gives out and you will get an A. Also very interesting class and he uses a lot of videos to make it relatable. A funny guy too. Would recommend!
Okay here is the deal. Bradley is probably one of my favorite Professors. I got a B+ in his class but that is cause I never missed a class and he knew who I was. Attendance is mandatory is you want a good grade cause every mon wed is a clicker question. He gives you the test questions in advance! Both midterm and final you have test questions.
If you have the chance, take a class with him. He's honestly so funny and just a super likeable guy. His grading and tests are incredibly fair.
Hes kind of like the dad you never had. Hes so funny and he always has weird stories. He gives all his lectures barefoot. Study guides have 100 questions and 50 of them are on the exam so its an easy A if you know all the answers when you're studying. Just do all the readings on the weekend and you'll pass the clickers and get an A in the class
The commenter who said he is like the dad you never had is so true. Dr. Wright is such a chill guy, he always tries to incorporate jokes in every class. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does do iclicker quizzes based on the readings, so if you miss them you'll lose points. Lectures were always interesting, definitely my fave class at UConn
SOCI 2301 is a really uninteresting class. I expected to learn about crime and its applications and how people manage it, but ended up spending an entire semester learning different ways to define crime. It was awful. The grading is a multiple choice crapshoot, and he could do some benefit with a discussion period. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Boring class. Could have made it much more interesting. Dumb clicker quizzes every class. Admits to purposely trying to trick you on exam questions. Tries to be funny too often. I recommend the class, but not with him. Exam is multiple choice; gives you all the questions but the answers could be a wide range of possibilities.
Test questions given in advance, but you have to make sure you got the right answers 100%. Not 95%. 100%. My answers were sometimes not perfectly on point with what he was going for as an answer, and that did not help me on the test. I would recommend going to office hours with TA or Wright to check your answers before the test.
I absolutely loved this class. It was his first time teaching Social Well-Being. This class was 3 hours long, a quiz at the beginning of each class. Need iClicker. The exam was hard but he gives you all of the questions, just not the answers. he is a really cool guy and I would recommend taking this course.
Wright himself is entertaining, but this class isn't what I expected. The endless readings for HW are never discussed in class; you're quizzed on them when you walk in and that's it until exam time. Lectures are boring & last forever, even for a class about committing crime. Daily iClicker quizzes are 1/3 of your grade so show up!
The class content itself is very interesting. When class starts you have 2-3 quiz questions which are from the readings assigned for the week. I honestly never did the readings all I did was look at the headings & I got a 97% on the quiz questions. He drops 10 questions. He gives you all exam questions & you just have to find the answers. Take it
Wright is a phenomenal professor that genuinely cares about his students. I had a tough semester due to personal reasons and he was so helpful and understanding. The class consists of a decent amount of readings each week that are then used to form clicker questions which make up 1/3 of your grade. the other 2/3 are from exams.
I loved this class - Brad is super friendly, approachable and kind, and genuinely cares for his students' well being. He was extremely helpful when I had physical and mental health concerns, and made accommodations foor any student who felt as though they needed it. Attendance is MANDATORY, participation is 1/3 of your grade.
I graduated from Uconn in 2009 and was privaledged to have Dr. Wright for two (or three classes). After Uconn I spent 2 more obtaining my Masters. Obviously I've been out of the classroom game for a while but I can tell you he was easily the best professor I've ever had. Completely down to earth, approachable, funny and just an overall great guy.
Great professor, he makes the class entertaining as well. The readings are interesting and sometimes the iclicker questions are just common sense. Overall funny and great caring guy. He drops a couple quiz questions in case u missed class or got a bad grade in them. Plus he gives you the questions to midterm a couple days before the actual exam
Only grades for the class are clicker questions and two exams. His lectures are really interesting and he makes them engaging so you don't feel like dying since its a longer class. He's kind of like the dad you always wanted. Would highly recommend taking any of his classes. Exams aren't hard if you go to every class and read (100+ pages a week).
Very easy class as long as you show up to lectures. You're only graded on two exams and the clicker questions on the readings. He assigns a lot of reading for classes, but the questions are usually general enough that you can get away with not doing the readings. For both exams he gives you the questions, but not the answers ahead of time.
Wright is more like a knowledgeable stand-up comedian. His sense of humor is incredible as he can make all of us laugh at every single class! Only graded on two multiple-choice exams and clicker questions, and he gives exam questions ahead of the actual exams. Anyway, a nice and funny person. I'm not a Sociology major but want to take him again.
Brad Wright is an amazing professor. His lectures are extremely entertaining and there is a lot of clips/movies. He's also a really interesting person. There is a lot of reading, but you only need the general idea and you can get the rest from lecture. Answer clicker questions and questions for exams are provided.
Bradley is awesome. He is very funny and makes the class extremely interesting. There is a lot of reading and you must go to class because clicker points are 1/3 of your grade. He makes going to class worth it and really wants his students to learn the material. I wish I found him earlier in my UConn career!
One of the best professors I've had here at UConn. He genuinely cares about each student and their needs. He also presents the material in a very effective manner, and I feel like I've learned so much.
Best professor ever. Extremely nice and pleasant to be around. Honestly looked forward to going to every class because he was so entertaining and made the subject fun. 10/10 guy, is the dad you always wanted. Love BWright, would recommend him for sure. All-around great dude who knows how to teach. <3
Honestly my favorite professor that I have had so far. Professor Wright made 1h15m lectures enjoyable and something to look forward to. He is funny, intelligent, and clearly cares about his students. Would highly recommend this class or any class with him. If you don't take a class with him, you're missing out.
This is the second time I've taken a class with this professor and he formats all the classes really similarly. You need to go to class because he has clicker questions pretty much every class on the readings or for participation. The questions aren't hard and they really help your grade if you don't miss class very often.
He was a good professor, enjoyed going to class, but exams were a tad difficult. 2 exams and clicker questions make up your grade. If your not a good test taker, don't take this specific class.
He is a hilarious professor but he is a tough grader. Your grade is made up of only a couple of things: a midterm, a final paper, iClicker questions, and online assignments. The iClicker questions happen once a week and are based on the readings, which are heavy. The midterm was all short answer and no multiple choice.
Best professor I've ever had. Made class entertaining, gave A TON of feedback, course content was interesting, wanted his students to succeed, appreciated a good joke, was looking for constructive criticism and actually acted on that criticism, very knowledgeable of material, a great teacher.
Prof. Wright is an excellent professor and covered the material well. He guided class discussions and helped us engage deeper on the subjects of the class. He cares about his students and was open to new ideas and cultivated an excellent learning environment. One of the best classes I have taken.
He is amazing! Very funny, only assigns one assignment a week, and grades very easy. He values his students feedback, and gives us a choice on what we prefer to do for class and homework assignments. He works with us instead of just telling us what to do, which I really appreciate. Very intelligent, and really facilitates his students learning.
Cares about the course a great deal and was always very accessible. Course was very test heavy as two 30 question midterms decided 2/3 of your overall grade. Content was not hard and is taught well, but the tests were heavy.
This class is super interesting and the professor is passionate about what he is teaching. He also assigns two articles and a TedTalk due every class and you have to read them because there are iclicker quizzes on them in the beginning of ever class. The articles are super long and unnecessary and the exams are a lot harder than you'd expect.
Professor Wright is very passionate about sociology and presents the material for the course extremely well through the lectures. This class is very interesting, but has unnecessarily difficult exams and lengthy readings. Iclicker questions and group assigments are super easy, which is a grade booster against the awful exams.
This is a class that is not only interesting but essential for people to take. Dr. Wright is a fantastic, funny, and engaging lecturer who truly loves what he is doing. If you have the opportunity to take Social Well-being, do it!
Prof Wright is a great and one of the kindest professors I've had at UConn. His class is one of those classes where it will take farther as a person rather as a student, which is a good thing. If anything, it teaches you ways to grow as a person. Class wise, 2 exams, 1 weekly group project, and iclicker questions. Great class for anybody.
Took class online, over break. Overall really nice professor and great guy, but exams can be a little challenging. Your average class workload, put in the work and you should do just fine. Something I didn't like was into the class, he changed the syllabus to include a group project which I didn't like. Good class but beware of potential changes.
Professor Wright is amazing, he is passionate about what he teaches and knows what he is talking about. Have to read the readings by each class as there are quizzes every time but is easy if you read them. Tests are a little challenging but overall not bad. He cares about his students.
2275 was surface-level and boring. Rather than an analysis of societal well-beings, it was a self-help class on individual choices devoid of context (build good habits, think positive!). The class lacked depth, nuance, and sociological perspective. If you're looking for an easy class, take it - otherwise, don't waste your time. TEDtalks are free.
I loved social well being! It is kind of like a self-help class but I enjoyed it and I learned some things that I started to apply in my everyday life afterwards. Professor Wright encourages participation and likes when people make silly and off-task comments. The grade is based off of easy weekly group assignments, clicker qs, and 2 easy exams!
Great Professor. He is funny which makes his lectures actually enjoyable. I also learned a lot in his course. I would recommend this class to anyone.
This class was alright, not great. Lectures were much longer than necessary and always seemed to drag on just to fill the time. The content was helpful but I dreaded class each week and hated the weekly reading assignments and TedTalks. Participation taken with iClickers to make sure you read and you're there. I think there's better classes to take
This class was one of the best ones I've taken. I learned more in this class than I did in any other classes. There are weekly group projects that are easy to skate through and the reading quizzes each class aren't too bad if you really read. The tests can be sort of tricky but they're easy if you study. No electronics in class though.
Okay, Professor Wright's class is by far the best class and the best Professor I've had in my entire University career. He is funny, spontaneous (in a good way), loves to be challenged, loves funny unrelated comments, and most of all his classes help you for the future. TAKE this class. No phones. Exams aren't so bad if you pay attention!
Literally such an amazing professor. I tell everyone that they have to take SOCI 2275. If you go to class and pay attention the exams are fine. Attendance is mandatory, since there are i-clicker questions. Overall definitely take this class or anything else with Professor Wright he is fabulous.
Dr. Wright is hands down the first professor I've ever met to truly deserve a 5 on RMP. The ratings say it all; he truly is the best professor I've ever had. Absolutely hysterical, is super lenient, and the class is incredibly interesting. Definitely recommend taking a class with him at some point in time regardless of your major.
Truly the best professor ever. Learned so many meaningful things about life. Caring, & hilarious. Passionate about what he does & makes class very enjoyable. IClicker quizzes on readings every class, so if you skip class you definitely wont pass. Class just feels like you're hanging with friends, he encourages sharing experiences & conversation.
I took his mini course on Finding Life Purpose, and he was just a very passionate and caring professor. He genuinely cares about what he teaches and his students. He has a lot of stories to tell, and he is very inspirational. I would recommend.
went to all ends of the earth to make sure you were there, and if you had technical problems or forgot your clicker you forfeit attendance. no phones, 2 1/2 hours of him talking. absolutely dreaded class. he did make the class fun and welcome silliness, but this did not fully make up for the other things. he may be best in a smaller class/discssion
I've taken his social wellbeing class+this required class, and even with accommodations this time, I struggled because participation, memorization, and no anxiety are what is needed to do well w/him. Be ready to do forced group projects and take 2 written essay tests that cover literally everything boom thats your grade. No room for failure w/him
I like how the instructor mixed in multiple different mediums of learning. He lectured, encouraged student discussion, and group project work. It kept class interesting and fun to learn concepts.
He taught the material very clearly and was passionate about the subject. Class went buy fast and I loved everything we learned.
Professor Wright is by far one of the best professors I've had at UConn. This might sound corny but his social well-being has genuinely taught me how to be happy in every aspect in life whether that be in a future romantic relationship or career. I liked his class so much that I applied to be a TA for it.
I think that this was one of the best classes I have taken at the university over the course of 4 years. The professor made the class fun and interesting and the time during the less went by super fast because there was so much interesting information to Learn. Excellent class and excellent professor.
One of the best Professors I've had at Uconn. This class has taught me so much about well-being. I have nothing bad to say about this class or Professor Wright. Very clear format of the class. Two exams worth 30% on class notes and readings. An easy 3 credit course to take.
He is a great person. His lectures just seem to stretch, you need an iclicker because there's a quiz in the beginning of each class. His first exam was tough, his second exam was pretty easy. The group projects are 100 if you hit all of the points he requires to be made in the presentation. If you forgot your iclicker don't even go to class tbh.
I liked how the instructor mixed in different mediums of learning, he lectured, encouraged student discussion, and group project work. It kept class interesting and fun to learn concepts.
Professor Wright is truly unique in his approach toward teaching and students. He's open to students opinions and feedback throughout the semester and willing to hear students out. He teaches life skills which feels more meaningful than a lot of the other upper division STEM courses I'm currently taking.
I have taken both SOCI 3201 and SOCI 2275. Professor Wright actually cares about teaching the material and tries to make class interesting rather than just lecturing everyone for an hour. I would 100% take another one of his classes. No technology and iClicker remote did annoy me at first but it actually helped with my learning a lot.
Professor Wright is a wonderful professor. He truly knows how to keep students engaged during a class. He mixed class with different interactive activities and it really helped me feel focused. There are group projects but they are usually interesting and not hard. Everything is very straightforward. I rave about this class, a must take at UConn.
he's the best!
I-clicker questions on Tuesdays, in-class group assignments on Thursdays. One group project due every Sunday night. He LOVES group work. Great guy, hilarious. Easy to follow along. 1 exam (midterm): 5 terms, define them. It's in person, on pen and paper. Final was take-home paper: Propose a research project.
I-clicker questions on Tuesdays, in-class group assignments on Thursdays. One group project due every Sunday night. LOVES group work. Great guy, hilarious. Easy to follow along in lectures. 2 exams: midterm + final. Both are multiple choice: scantron in person, using pen and paper. CLOSED NOTES. About 50 questions each exam.
Just one of the most thoughtful and important courses I have ever taken, simply the best.
Dr. Wright was one of my favorite professors I've had. He's funny, caring, brings snacks to class, and truly loves what he does. His lectures are engaging and I applied the lecture material to my life. Lectures are mandatory to attend, but if you go to class and do the readings/videos, its an easy A. One of the best classes ive taken at Uconn!
I-Clicker on Tuesdays, in-class group assignments on Thursdays. LOVES group work. Great guy, hilarious. easy to follow along. Two exams. first was 5 terms, define them: in person, pen and paper. second was take-home. One group project is due every Sunday night.
I-Clicker on Tuesdays, in-class group assignments on Thursdays. LOVES group work. Great guy, hilarious. easy to follow along. Two exams. first was multiple choice: scantron in person, pen and paper. NO NOTE SHEETS.
If you think about taking this class because it'll be a blow-off class, absolutely do not. "Finding Life Purpose" is the most useless and ridiculous class I have ever taken. There is so much work outside of class and if you're an honors student taking any sort of labor-intensive course in your first year absolutely avoid this class like the plague.
Cool guy and good lectures which are very interactive, iClicker needed for weekly quiz, but overall class is quite easy. Exams can be rough but you should be able to keep up a good grade for the course regardless.
No decent person should ever have to take this class.
My roommate took his UNIV and told me about it every time they came back from that class. Stay away. Even I hate this man and I didn't even take his class.
I liked how Dr. Wright had us learn the material outside of the classroom so we could apply it while in the classroom. I felt that I was better able to retain my knowledge on the subjects we learned from the online lectures after we discussed it more in detail in class.
He's very engaging and cares about his students.
He is an amazing teacher with a lot of wisdom who cares about his students and what he does overall.
I had a good experience in this class. It is super easy, as long as you show up and do the work. The work isn't hard. If he uses an iclicker, which he did for my class, you will need to go to class that way you can get points for being there and particpating. But I will def be looking to take a class with him again.
Take him for SOC 3201. He did a great job making a somewhat boring topic engaging interesting. Attendance is mandatory and very important for your grade so beware this is not the class to take. Midterm was super easy and final was a paper that is even easier. Favorite prof at UConn!
I absolutely loved this class and Professor Wright. The class topics themselves were incredible to learn about and I applied a lot of them to my own life. The class I took was only on Tuesdays so it was very long however he is a very good lecturer and great to listen to. One group project weekly, weekly iclicker quizzes, and two in-person exams.
Brad is a great professor. He knows how to make his lectures engaging and interesting. There is a lot of group work, several times during each class, so attendance is mandatory for a good grade. Small group project due every Sunday, and textbook modules due Tuesdays. The final is a research study proposal. It is easy to do well in his class.
BWright is an excellent professor and a great person. He's very relatable and different from other sociology professors at UConn. His structure and expectations are fairly traditional (ie. closed book midterm, reading quizzes, etc.), but everything is very clear and attainable if you try. Class feels like a group discussion rather than a lecture.
BWright's social well-being class is something everyone should take at UConn. This is the class with the single most material you can apply to our life, and make your life better. Every class is like a Ted Talk. Class is traditional with closed book exams and reading quizzes, but expectations are clear and extra credit opportunities are available.
Professor Wright has the kindest soul. He cares a lot about his students, all while making sure you leave the class with more knowledge than when you entered. This class was one of the best courses I've taken at UConn. No technology is allowed unless permitted, assignments are clear, fun content. Highly recommend!
Took both his 2275 and 3201 courses. Very easy to follow and understand, and always tries to make lectures engaging, interesting and relevant. If you pay attention in class, participate and study for midterm/final you will get an easy A. no technology -- pencil+paper notes, but I think that helps contribute to absorbing the information in the class
Genuinely the most caring professor ever. He wants nothing but the best for us is a really good person. His lectures were definitely long, but he gave us breaks and always made lecture enjoyable.
Very boring lectures. No tech allowed. Group projects and quizzes every week. Projects were easy and quizzes were simple. Slides were all posted online but you have to show up to class or either write a 5 page essay or just forfeit the lost class points, sick or not. Most of class is weighed on two 50 questions exams that are unclear and tricky.
The instructor truly inspired student engagement and prompted to students to apply what was learned in class to their daily lives. I have never had a class create such lifelong habits.
The instructor creates a very welcoming and comforting atmosphere where all students are encouraged to engage and participate with the material.
I selected this class because of Professor Wright's teaching style. The way he stimulated interest in this class is unlike many of my other professors have in their respective classes. I will miss Professor Wright's teaching style greatly. The way I know I enjoy a Professor is when I am excited to go to class. I never missed a class for this reason
Good professor, interesting subjects. Painful but super simple group projects every week, and one in-class easy assignment with others. Exams are fine. Easy class just long, get ready to work with others.
Not to sound sappy, but I've never taken a class that made me tear up as I walked out on the last day. Maybe it's because I'm a senior, but Professor Wright healed a part of me I didn't know needed healing. Other classes prepare you for a career; this one prepares you for a meaningful life.
Professor Wright has to be one of the best professors I've had at UConn. Whether you're interested in sociology or not, I genuinely think everyone should take this class if you want to start living a better life! Yes, you have to apply yourself and be engaged with the course content, but it's not a hassle cause of his incredible teaching style.
no technology allowed, 3 question quiz every tuesday on iclicker based on readings and group project due every tues night, both easy. in class assignments both on iclicker and on paper every thurs which is just participation. exams on paper closed note. didnt tell us final exam grades and just posted our final grades to admin which was weird tho
I liked how interactive the class was and how we were able to apply many of the things we learned about in class through group activities and the class projects. The professor was funny and engaging, and it really felt like he valued our insights and contributions to the class which made it easier to participate.
Prof Wright is an amazing teacher. He understands how students learn, and keeps them engaged. He is very kind, and truly cares for his students.
I think overall he was a great professor and was changing up some methods of the course this semester. I thought that the midterm was a bit confusing. I wish we had more time to practice for the final though. Group work and iclicker questions very manageable.
While he doesn't allow us to use our laptops or phones, I think he is a great prof and is very accommodating. His classes were entertaining, and I actually felt like I learned something. There are easy group projects every weekend, and kind of long homework, but his grading is very fair and if you do the work you'll do good in class.
A good professor, however, I dreaded this class. The midterm was vague, so I'd recommend scheduling office hours and studying with others. Be sure to study a lot, as he requires students to understand the material to a higher degree.
