totally awesome teacher!! He's really cool, really easy,,, really fun class.. take him throughout all your speech classes... really easy grader
Great teacher because he really expects you to know the materiel, yet he teaches the class in a fun, interactive way that has made this class my favorite.
Brady was pretty cool and down to earth. He was also lenient on his grading. He jokes around a lot. He will probably cancel a couple classes so don't be surprised if he does it for the whole week. I would love to be in one of his classes again. Easy A.
Fun entusiastic. Good Projects.
He is an easy "A" teacher if you shows up regularly in his class and done all the works. However, during the term you will expect he absence for more than 2 weeks.
very clear expectations, very helpful, you can tell he really enjoys the topic and is very enthusiastic about it. he's a pretty cool guy! take the hybrid (especially if shy of public speaking), its easy and painless, and the group youre speaking in front of is small and very comfortable and warm
Totally hot...great teacher...knows his stuff and expects you to know yours. Lots of fun, he does cancel a lot of classes but its cool. He has really amazing eyes if you ever get close enough to actually look at them.
He didn't seem to know the course material, and if he did, he never showed any interest in trying to explain it to the class. I learned practically nothing from his teaching, but if you want an easy A his class is the one to take
Brady Carey likes to play games in class, but doesn't really teach you anything; you have to figure out for yourself what he expects. If he doesn't agree with your opinion , he will lower your grade. Watch out for this one, he's all smiles right before the knife in the back.
Brady is great. He makes the class really exciting and makes you actually want to go to class. His grading style is pretty easy too and he's really willing to work with you to get the grade you want.
A very easy teacher when it comes to grading. He's also very funny and keeps classes light. Only had to do 3 speeches for the entire term!
My opinion: very disorganized. Instructions did not correspond to assignments. When brought to his attention, nothing was done to correct the problems or clarify mass confusion. Do not agree w/yelling the F word at a student& in front the class. A self-conceived Godlike image. Find another instructor who cares. Do not agree w/the chilli peppers.
Took a communications online class. Worst. Expect a lot of group meetings out of class and being tech savvy because there are videos to be made, which mhcc doesn't have equipment for. Grading was unfair and weird. Don't do it!
One of my fav MHCC teachers! I was so terrified of public speaking before taking his class, I barely talked in general, and by the end of the term I was excited for speeches! Changed my life, literally! He creates a kicked back atmosphere that's comfortable and non-judgemental. I found his cursing hilarious! He's full of life and entertaining!
Awesome instructor very clear on grading laid back if you do take him make sure to not be offend by language cause he curses like a sailor lol which I found to be pretty hilarious
Please do not take an online class from him. He is disorganized, doesn't include due dates on ANY assignments, and is rude when confronted with clarifying questions. The class is easy, and I didn't feel like I learned anything, yet I still earned a high grade despite missing a few assignments due to confusion over when they were due
Brady was great. He kept his class grounded and very enjoyable. He's very approachable and enthusiastic. He is helpful and is easy to get assistance from. Brady is also very positive and encouraging. He was a great teacher. I wish he was a little more organized and gave hand outs about assignments. But he gets an "A" in my book!
Great teacher, looks out for his students and as long as you listen to criticism and adjust what you do and do your work on time you'll do great. understanding and enthusiastic.
I took this class as a hybrid (half online, coming to class for speeches). I would have gave crystal clear clarity but he grades on a scale. I took the class twice (once I didnt do anything so didnt pass)the second time I wasnt very active in discussions. He expects you to do your work. Communicate problems. I liked him. Great teacher.
i loved this class. I was nervous because everyone around me hated their speech classes. If you look at the syllabus, you know when this are due. Great teacher. He was very helpful and easy going. I loved taking this teacher. DO IT! you'll probably get an A
One of my favorite teachers I have ever had in school. Very fun and interactive. He really does care that his students understand him. Easy class. Just do your work and show him you're making an effort and you're going to do well.
His material lacked clarity, he does not respond to emails, he is offended when asked to clarify. The material he states online will be available for the student is not available. Worse online class I have ever taken.
He is an awesome teacher! Very clear on what he wants if you read Blackboard. This class made me actually like public speaking. Crazy! The four speeches are fairly easy and Brady makes it easy and not scary. Listen to his feedback and apply it to the next speech. Watch the rubrics and follow them and you can easily pass his class!
Brady is an awesome teacher, this class is fundamentals more so then speeches, must be able to work in groups!! I learned a lot and had fun. Good teacher and very passionate about what he does.
Personally, I liked him overall but just some stuff he was totally not understandable. For example, he will give you back feedback about your speech and then the next feedback of the same speech he will give the opposite of what he just said. He was really easy on grading his discussions. But his speeches weren't easy to get a good grade on it.
Not a good teacher, plain and simple, very rude and condescending. My entire class of 30+ dropped with the exception of myself and one other student. very confusing setup, but easy grader. Don't risk taking his class.
This teacher doesn't post due dates on the Blackboard site, and gives VERY little feedback or communication regarding assignments. He also relies very heavily on video presentations, but doesn't give clear instructions on how to use them. The two sites he gave our class for the Theory Project didn't work, and I had to pay to post my presentation.
Excellent teacher & really nice guy. I struggled in this class at times but he was very helpful and I honestly feel like I came away from the class better equipped to give presentations. For the online class, he requires that you have a minimum of 5 people watch you give your speech and this must be filmed for all 4 speeches, which can be tough.
Great guy, down to earth. Super funny. He wants his students to get involved since it's a speech course. (duh) Take his classes, you'll enjoy it if you like participation.
Ahh good ol' Monsieur Shuh-KAH-go. You wouldn't have guessed all that energy could have been packed in such a small man. He's got a real good eye for finding out student's strengths and weaknesses and is as humorous as his class structure. Curses like a seaman but is as gentle as the mineral water he gorges on daily. Recommend highly.
I wish I needed to take another public speakingdebate class just so I could be in Brady's class again. Truly great guy.
I loved his class, truly inspiring guy! Always replies to emails fast, offers help, and not to mention very good looking. TAKE HIS CLASS!
I was not really looking forward to taking a speech class. However, I highly enjoyed Brady's class, and I am very glad I took it. Class was always interesting, and the way he set the environment up made giving speeches a little less nerve-racking. I very much recommend taking a course with Brady.
I have taken the hybrid class option. It was easy to follow, with clear communication and very specific guidelines. He instilled a sense of confidence in me. I feel much more comfortable speaking in front of a group of people. Do not put off your speech preparation to the last minute, give yourself time to practice the delivery and you'll be fine.
Great guy. Fantastic teacher. Chicago.
Brady was the most unprofessional teacher I have had during my years in college. He failed to describe the assignments clearly, he always wanted to finish and get out of class early, used a LOT of profanity, did not care to help the students with academic support, and was just overall a terrible teacher. Would NOT recommend him for anybody...
cusses a lot, tough speech grader.
Did not give a lot of good feedback on discussion posts or speeches. Also, I didn't find the grading criteria to be very clear.
Starting out, I thought I was going to fail miserably. But, to my surprise, he was so carefree and gave such great, clear feedback that I'm actually doing pretty well! Though I wasn't technically in the hybrid class, we had an online textbook and most of our assignments/tests were online. If I had to take another SP class, I'd take Brady's class.
Shows up to class unorganized. Doesn't care about the class or what he is teaching.
Funny and has the cool Chicago attitude and accent. I took a hybrid class, mostly online but with some classes that are mandatory for speeches. I would recommend taking him.
Very unprofessional and swears a ton. Calls people out constantly and forces students to participate in unnecessary "icebreakers" that make a lot of students feel uncomfortable. He complains and nags a lot. The textbook costed over $100 and it wasn't relevant. English is my second language, and as hard as I worked, I still couldn't succeed. Hard.
Mr. Carey is hilariously funny. However, the class depends on a really stupid online book that will lag your computer. There is so much online homework, so DO NOT TAKE THIS if you hate online work! The book is a McGrawHill SmartBook, and you HAVE to pay $90 to rent it. The system is really stupid. Good teacher, awful class setup.
The teacher is great at giving feed back, He is always there to help you out when you're struggling and never lets you down like others, super optimistic. over all just an awesome teacher. Debates are not often but he has certain expectations that you need to meet.
This was your basic online class. You have to participate in discussions and answer multiple choice text questions. The coursework isn't hard, but be prepared to speak publicly!
Worst teacher I have had by far. He doesn't care about the students and tries to show off every lecture. The grade is heavily dependent on the online coursework, and not the speeches itself. DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR!
Not a very professional teacher. Swears a lot and is very un organized. Would not recommend taking this teacher.
If you have any technical errors beware. I was given half credit on an assignment I worked really hard on because I accidentally posted two times on the discussion forum. He stated that if it happened again I could be graded down even more so. Also be prepared to pay $70 for an online textbook that yells at you to "practice" more.
Speeches are hard for people, and Brady gets that. He's an easy grader and gives great feedback. Doing speeches for his class felt like no pressure and although there were lots of quizzes, they were easy. Communication is required and Brady makes the class an easy pass. 10/10 definitely recommend!
Brady Carey is by far my favorite college professor so far. Some of the comments on his lack of professionalism are comical. He is not by any means a sailor. He is an honest, fun loving and caring man who enjoys what he does and does his best to make sure you also do. Emails back within the hour. Grades are very reasonable. 100% would take again.
This teacher is the worst. DON'T TAKE HIM!! His online class is rediculous. Replys very late, so if you are asking any questions about homework, he would respond on time.
He's a great person, not a great teacher. $77 for a pdf of a textbook that you lose access to at the end of the term, no options to rent/share/buy used and if you don't download it, you don't get access to the quizzes, so NO wiggle room financially. Lectures instantly develop into funny but irrelevant class discussions with more jokes than content.
Absolute worst teacher I have ever encountered. Super cocky and thinks hes being really clear with his instructions, but hes not. If you ask for clarification, he just tells you that hes posted it somewhere, he doesnt go out of his way to make sure that you understand when you ask for feedback. Never had a professor who cared so little to help
Brady seems to be a decent down-to-earth individual. However, as a teacher, I didn't care for how he responded. It was as if I was an inconvenience to him. When asking for help I received a link to search for answers instead of getting the help I paid for. The course its self was straightforward, with weekly discussions, projects & quizzes.
This class was great and one I think that would have been better in person rather than completely online. The professor seemed funny and was helpful and quick to reply but it very much felt like you had zero interaction with him unless you went to an office hours. Little feedback but great course content. Everyone should take this class!
Worst teacher I've ever had a class with, and I mean it. I'm typically all As and Bs, but this term I had to bend over backwards to get a low C. He's makes you sound stupid when you ask for clarification, his online platform is a mess (you can never seem to find anything, much less ACCURATE grades), and he never responds to emails on time.
He is by far the worst teacher I have had a Mhcc. I have been on the deans list the last 4 terms hold a 3.6 Gpa. Got a F In this class . His online platform is a mess . His instructions are unclear. Forget one thing for the final PowerPoint and you fail the whole class. Ridiculous grader if he feels your response isnt long enough youre docked .
Thought this would be a very intriguing class. Textbook was super dry. Must make one visual discussion (PowerPoint) per week- they weren't the worst thing in the world, but they weren't fun either. Must also respond to 2 other discussions per week; make sure your responses are long. Class is also very political. Expected more from this class.
For a comm teacher, he has trouble with communication. He is often unclear in assignment instructions, and his clarification rarely helps. The textbook is updated but still out of touch when it comes to online communication. It was a fine class but I found myself frustrated with the instructor. The book is fine, and the in-book tests are fine.
He teaches communication but doesn't know how to communicate to his students respectfully. Visual discussions and replies have to be exactly what he is looking for in order to get a decent grade on them. I've never had a professor that is this strict of a grader. He makes people feel very uncomfortable with his comments. Overall, just does not care
Quite a tough grader, from what I experienced, there's hardly any feedback so I don't really get what's been missing. However, I did get a better understanding during office hours. Nextly, you'll do slides A LOT. Get prepared to know how to format your info! There's quizzes and questions of chapters every week along with a slideshow presentation.
For COMM114 the week to week schedule is always the exact same. The lesson is posted by Monday, you watch his lecture & discussion posts are due on Friday. 2x really good replies are due by Sunday. Big Theory project as the final. The discussion posts require a good amount of work and brainpower, one of my posts was 7 pages long. VERY good teacher!
I think Professor Carey is passionate about what he teaches. The course load is just too much for me. A lot of homework and exams even during midterms and finals. I struggled with this course. "Discussion" posts online are actually 5-7 slide PowerPoint presentations and not traditional "discussion posts" as you would expect from an online course.
I would never take any class by this instructor, or recommend him. I've put so much work into my dicussion posts for him to only give me half credit or 3/4th credit. I am leaving this term with 3 A's and a C-. Last term I manages all B's, last spring I managesdall A's. SO tell me, and I the problem? I think not. DO NOT take any classes by this man.
This is a three credit 100 level course that is graded like a post-graduate course. You will never receive full points on items graded by the instructor. By far the worst course I've taken at MHCC, not because of the curriculum, but because of how this instructor grades unfairly.
If you are going to take this class, definitely take it in person. Ive heard that if you take it online, he is a difficult grader. If you take it in person, an easy A. He will provide you with a discussion question that you will have to talk about in class, after you talk about your answers, he will give you full credit.
I love the way this professor manages his online classes. The same amount of work each week, you get work graded and returned the same day each week, and the blackboard lay out is the best I've seen. Felt a little bit work heavy but it is the same amount of work each week so you know what to expect. Seems like a tough grader but he is not.
Second time taking this professor, he has one of the best blackboard layouts I have seen. He may come off as a tough grader but you just need to view the rubric and learn what he wants from assignments. The same amount of course work each week. Quick at grading! Always willing to help!
I have taken two courses with Brady as my professor and I am so happy with my experience. If things came up in my life he was very understanding. He always makes sure students understand assignments and is always available for help. Always take his class!
Very straightforward in what he expected. He gives off a really good vibe and he was very communitive. For the final project, you can work in a group if you choose. Lots of reading but it really wasn't too hard. Just do the work and you'll at least get a passing grade.
taking another one of his classes, hes awesome
his class offers a comfortable safe space to be able to communicate your opinions thoughts and questions! you'll definitely make friends in this class!
Brady was a fair professor. There is a lot of reading every week and weekly discussions are very lengthy including the required responses in order to get full credit. Other than that, the engagement was awesome.
Brady made my public speaking class my favorite class of the term, and I despise public speaking. He gave clear feedback and was a very easy going grader. There were that parts I didn't love in the rubrics, I didn't find them particularly helpful for my own learning, however it didn't hurt my grade at all. I would 100% take his classes again.
Terrible. Loud and not funny, nor clear, even though he thinks he is. Uses the worst online homework system ever invented. Unclear grading criteria and lowers your grade if you have don't have an opinion he likes on every political subject he injects into this supposedly neutral speech class.
This is the worst class I've ever taken at MHCC so far. The discussions for this class are ridiculously heavy in effort, having to be in a slides presentation format. Grading criteria is so specific just for the discussion responses alone, otherwise you won't get full points, if he even gives those. Great thing I won't be taking him again.
Hi, I recently took Mr Brady COMM 115 class which I really enjoyed study in the friendly class environment! ^^
This class was awesome! attendance is important if you expect to know the material, participation matters. Brady was great at having class discussions in lieu of online discussion posts. The theory project, your final, was so fun to make. This is not an easy A and will require attendance, participation. Highly recommend brady for any COMM class.
Brady is genuinely such an amazing professor. He was funny and understanding and made sure everyone was comfortable. Every other class you had to bring in a presentation. The theory project was super fun, make sure you start early though. I learned so much from this class and he created a welcoming environment. 10/10, would take again.
Brady is a nice professor. However, I didn't like how the discussions were formatted in APA PowerPoint.
Carey is a great public speaking instructor. His instructions were clear and he made sure you were prepared for each speech. Attendance for speeches matters, so make sure you show up!
I took public speaking with Brady, and on the first day of class, he told us to get up and go outside so we can play a game. It was a bonding, let loose game that ended up with so much laughter and fun. I loved how personal and down to earth he is, and I would absolutely reccomend taking a class with Brady.
If you find errors in Brady Carey's grading rubrics, could be different for each student, he will not give you full credit for the assignment (visual discussions). This is a way he signals that he will be marking you down points on the assignments. Look for any in your documents and make sure you let other people know.
I took Public Speaking with Brady. He comes off as a chill guy, but is extremely biased against specific students. He claims to meet you where you're at but my grading was inconsistent and depended heavily on how good his day was going. Left 2/3 of my presentations feeling disrespected and like he just wanted to put me down. Unfortunate but whatevs
He is fair, he can tell if students don't put in the effort. I like that he wants everyone to be respectful.
Such a fun teacher with a great personality!
Bad online platform, poorly laid out expectations, nitpicky, and far too political. Was supposed to learn about communication instead learned about how much I should hate white people. Far to politically leaning to be a neutral course and way to specific guidelines that often have no relation to the studied chapters. 0/10.
Teaches lots of good information and definitely is helpful even if your nervous at public speaking. He is a bit nitpicky but if follow the rubric throughout your speeches you should be alright. He definitely has bad days but most of the time is a friendly guy you can talk to. A little bit political but not really overbearing.
