He is a cool teacher, who lets you out early most of the time. Although he is a little full of himself and doesn't return your grades on time. He is very funny and make to class laugh a lot. He also sets up his grading policy were if you want an A it is easy to achieve. P.S. Don't be late to class cause he will lock you out.

I took this class over intersession because I was dreading it! It actually ended up not being too bad; you find out that everyone is just as nervous if not more. Brandon is very clear and a easy but fair grader. He does make you feel comfotable and make you realize giving a speech isn't a big deal; just practice and you'll be set.

True, his class is easy if you pay attention and come to class prepared. It's SPCH 100 level, folks! If speech is going to "be your life," then he IS prob'ly too 'easy' for you at the 100-level, but if you are "just" getting requirement out of the way, he is the way to go. He knows his stuff but does not yet demand your perfection at this level.

I was happy with this course. He made the class a friendly environment, which is essential for a public speaking class. He was very informative. Like others have said, he is sometimes unorganized, but admits to it. I am going to take his SPCH 105 class this semester because I enjoyed his straight forward style of teaching a lot. Got the A.

Prof. Whearty is awesome! Whether you need 105 for your major, or for the critical thinking requirement, take his class. He does not require a textbook, and the class only has 2 exams. GREAT CLASS if you just need the class to transfer and don't really care about the subject. It's super easy. He tells you exactly what he wants in the speeches and the midterm and final are pretty much just common sense. It's an EASY A unless you are a complete idiot. Nice class. I took it over the summer and we had a lot of stuff to cover. But he had an easy laid out schedule. I would say that it was easier than most speeches classes due to not having to write a 10pg. report. All in all, you have 2 tests, 3 major speeches, and 4 mini- speeches(about 90 seconds long).

This Class opened my mind. Professor Whearty does a good job on installing the fundamentals of critical thinking. He is not the typical monotone professor. His sense of humor is a plus. Easy A or B if you particpate, do assigned reading, do the interesting debates, and study for exams. The only downside is he procrastinates on grades a lot.

Knows more useless factoids than any person I have ever met, but that makes for a very funny and interesting class. (He uses these factoids as examples and points relating to speech). I can't rate his CLARITY high enough... speaks extremely thoroughly. Grades speeches EXTREMELY easily due to the introductory nature of the class.

Mr. Whearty is an awesome teacher! He works hard to make sure you succeed in the class. He's an awesome guy. The class isn't that difficult if you put just a little time and effort into it. If you do that, you'll get an A, or at worst a B. He has 50 points for extra credit, so if you're struggling, do that and it'll raise your grade significantly.

Easiest class I have ever taken!!! Whearty is a good professor and acknowledges every student. He made the class so comfortable that his speeches weren't so nerve-braking. Really simple class he goes over everything many times before the exams so if you miss a class you'll be alright. We only ahd two debates during the whole semester and they required little to know prep work. You'd have to actively try in order to not pass.

Cultural Artifact, Informative, Hero-Villain, and Declamation Speech. 2 or 3 mini speeches as well. Attendance is mandatory. No group work and goes over study guide in class. 1 Mid term and one final multiple choice.

Very clear, very funny, very informative. Great professor all around and knows his stuff. He doesn't make you dress up, speeches suck enough as it is. Although, his speeches are not difficult. Gives extremely quick and good feedback. Very informative on argumentation and debate. He tell you exactly what you need to study for on tests.

If you take his OPTIONAL online SPCH-150 class you will literally have to try to not get an A because if you take it you'll get 50 free extra credit points for the actual class *online assignments are easy*.

Before taking this class I had a fear of public speaking. After taking this class, I feel much more confident giving a speech. He refers to his class as "being in a a kiddy-pool". Was really worried about my first semester taking Speech but it went by like a breeze. He will coach you through it and make you feel totally confident before you present. Some kid next to me passed and showed up high for every speech, this being said, you don't have to go to class but when you do it's worth it because the lectures are amazing.

Speaking in front of a class is difficult, but with Professor Whearty's great feedback and amazing sense of humor, I promise you will get through a class that is way out of most people's comfort zones. He tells great stories that make you laugh and really help calm the nerves. I would definitely take his class again!

Took this class during Intersession. Great teacher. Always does his outline and speech first so that the class knows exactly what to expect. Test are easy if you keep up with the material. By the end of class, you will be a better speaker than when you entered his class. It was a very enjoyable class. His feedback is really helpful.

I took this class during the summer and it was super easy. The quizzes were open note and book and done online with only 7 question. Exams were 50 questions but all multiple choice and common sense. the only hard thing about this class was the speeches but Professor Whearty made it easy and comfortable as possible. get the cheep textbook.

Cannot say enough about the instructor, take his class you will not regret it. Pay attention in class, tests are easy as long as you read the chapters. You're going to stand in front of the class and give some short speeches but he completely prepares you for it. You don't have to be perfect, he just wants to see you try.

Professor Whearty is extremely caring and patient with his students. His class consists of two 50 question multiple choice exams, and about three debates. Each of the debates are graded on participation, so they are as low pressure as it gets. Overall, his class is fun, interesting, and the easiest one available for the critical thinking req.

Only 2 tests, easy to pass as long as you took notes for the weekly quizzes. 3 speeches with helpful guidelines, can be submitted over live Zoom or pre-recorded. Textbook is helpful but not required.

Took this class in 4 weeks, put in the effort and get an A. Consists of 3 speeches (3-7 min) 10 chapters/quizzes and 2 exams. Theres no requirement to give the speeches live, although you can if you would like. The work wasn't overwhelming and very manageable in an intersession class. Highly recommend taking.

Professor Whearty's class was just fine! I dreaded taking speech in college ever since I started but his online course made it stress-free. You can record your speeches and post them or do them live- your choice. There is a super easy quiz every week and 2 also very simple exams from material that he talks about in the recorded lectures he posts.

He is am amazing teacher he is very clear with his lectures and wants you to succed. Test are easy he litterly post all the study guides and as well dedicates a whole class to review which helps so much. 1000% recomend

Best prof ever! Take his class. Yes speaking in front of audience can be nerve-racking but the prof makes you feel great. You must take his class. His lectures are interesting and he interact with the class. He makes student interact. Mostly everything gets done in class. His class consisted of three debates, lectures, two exams and extra credit.

Professor Whearty's class helped me feel well-prepared and more comfortable when giving speeches. He goes over the textbook in class which is extremely helpful. Take Professor whearty you will not regret it. He is amazing at what he does. You will be learning without it feeling forced and the information will be memorized easily. The debates are not stressful at all and quizzes/test are set up to match with class lectures/ study guides overall this class is super manageable even with a full schedule.

He is a very good professor! He is fun and interesting, some may think he is harsh but I think he has a lot of personality. His quizzes are very lecture based and reading based and are easy to do! 10/10 take his class!

The class is very entertaining when it comes to lectures and speeches in general are very fun and the atmosphere within the class is calm when it comes to presenting our speeches throughout the semester. Many assignments are done online and incredibly simple; overall would recommend for future students

The best professor for speech 100; he is very caring about his students and gives good feedback on your speeches. Grade is based on 3 major speeches, 10 quizzes, 1 midterm and 1 final exam. Definitely would recommend. You can submit your speeches either asynchronous or synchronous; your choice! He is a very easy grader anyway.

Provided a very unique and experimental class. No homework was given. Instead, we would do activities that subtly helped improve skills later used in upcoming debates. Heavily focused on more flexible and improv speech techniques rather than any deep research or writing. Feedback is given near instantly. Rarely responds to e-mails on time, do note.

Professor Whearty is amazing at making students feel comfortable when on stage! He gives very good feedback that can be applied and fixed by your next speech. A few quizzes and 2 big exams, and 3 big speeches! His class was great for those who may feel nervous about talking on stage, as he helps us all ease those nerves!

When I first signed up for this class I was very worried about debating, however, Professor Whearty makes it very easy! He's supportive when it comes to public speaking and eases a lot of the anxiety. There are 3 speeches, 2 exams, and no homework! I was worried with speech. He was just incredible. If you seek help from him, he would. He does his best to calm you if you worried. He made me confident and communication. His first lecture was addressing about the class it self and nerves. It was not about himself. That's at the last class, where he introduce himself, and he made emotional.

Amazing! LIke many I was scared to be speak in front of people but Whearty was such a helpful teacher. He made SPCH 100 easy because he understands that people are nervous. Like most, I was nervous about giving speeches, but his lectures gave me valuable insight that helped me improve. He allows students to do their speeches either live on Zoom or recorded. There are three major speeches + quizzes, but if you watch the lectures, you'll do well. Also, there is a book, but it isn't necessary since the lectures cover it.

One of my favorite professors, if you're older then 25 you'll most likely catch majority of his jokes during lectures. He wants his students to get good grades, you can tell he genuinely loves his job. As long as you communicate with him he'll work with you. The hardest part of this class was overcoming nerves of public speaking.

Go close this tab and add the class to your schedule! You won't regret it. Class is easy and the professor genuinely cares about all of his students. It'll be the easiest grade you get and you'll actually learn something that you'll use along the way.

This professor was the best! He's incredibly knowledgeable and explains all the important parts of speech really well. This class is one of the most valuable courses for any college student it truly helps improve your speech and communication skills. Only 3 speeches the entire class. Handful of quizzes and a midterm and final. Super generous grader for the speeches as long as you meet time requirements you are getting an A. Cares about his students and makes speaking less nervous. Funny guy too.

Really great professor. 3 speeches throughout the semester, very generous with the grading. After every lecture there is a quiz thats taken at your own convenience. Midterm and Final both 50 questions, class before is review. Extra credit offered at the end of the semester as well as randomly throughout the semester. Overall really great professor.

I had him for the Fall semester online; every week, he gave lecture videos, assigned reading, and a quiz. We had three speeches, a midterm, and a final. But the quizzes are simple if you learn the vocab. The midterm and final are heavily based on the quizzes. Overall, he was amazing and sweet. It is easy and simple if you just do the work.

Through the year, he's nothing but fantastic as a professor, and he builds a sense of community within the class. I can't stress enough how absolutely phenomenal the final day speech is. If you're gonna be absent one day in the year, don't be absent on the last day. Whearty also stresses that if you even exist in the same room as AI, you're done.
