Material is tough and there is a lot of note taking but she drops lowest test and lowest quiz and she will have some sort of extra credit contest during the semester. be sure to attend class
Would of got an A for the class but she was Critical on symbols and sign. Oh don't forget to label your x-y axis. Give quizzes to help you learn the subject. But won't tell you what on the test. No point going to class cause she teaches out of the book.
She sucks!
Loved her, never had to show up to class and still did very well in the class.!
Only good thing was that homework was never due and I never had to show up to class. She taught out of the book. She didn't really go into detail, and I am not strong in math, so it didn't help me at all.
BC is easy but she is very unclear of what she is doing. she's a newb at teaching & does not explain her actions & directions. details of doing problems are rarely ever provided. if you take this class, be sure you know what you're doing beforehand. she is however eye candy & sweet looking.
A regular hottie.
Mrs. Cooke is very good at teachig math. SHe puts it such a way a dog could learn it. Very easy tests, doesnt require you to be there. Very awesome class would suggest her above any other teacher!
Brandi Cooke is an awesome teacher. Super helpful in every way, she is always there when you need her help.
Awsome teacher. very helpful with everything. will make sure you understand the problem before she moves on. i will be in her class next semester. I recommend to everyone.
Very nice personality. Very fair on her grading policy. Quizzes are difficult, tests are not.
Mrs. Cooke is a lovely teacher. Given Intermediate Algebra is nearly a remedial-level class, she explains her processes to the dumb folks rather clearly. Although I hate math, I feel that Mrs. Cooke is both helpful and considerate; I'd recommend her.
She was a great help for me during office hours. If you show any degree of interest in math she immediatly opens up. Plus she's hot!
Strict but easy
CARES MORE ABOUT GETTING THROUGH THE BOOK THAN ACTUALLY TEACHING THE STUDENT. MAY BE HELPFUL DURING OFFICE HOURS, HOWEVER IS NOT HELPFUL DURING CLASS. THE ONLY WAY TO PASS THIS CLASS IS TO GO TO OFFICE HOURS. IF YOU HAVE A JOB AND CAN'T SORRY ABOUT YOUR LUCK.DONT TAKE HER UNLESS U R A MATH MAJOR.
She's an awesome teacher. If you're having trouble, she will take how ever much time is needed for you to understand. Some people don't like her, but those people don't come to class, or pay attention when they do. Both her quizes and tests are easy if you stay on top of things. She really cares
Very boring, no personality. Her "reviews" are rushed through at lightning speed. Her notes are the same way. Be prepared to write fast. She gives 11 or 12 quizzes, does partial credit, but marks off points for negligible mistakes. If you're good at math, she will be ok, but if not,get a different prof.
Cool lady, kind of young. She always talks about what she had to do when she was in grad school. BE PREPARE TO WRITE FAST! Not much explanation of sections, only examples. Very tough grader. She takes off on tests for EVERYTHING! If there's a dollar sign missing she takes 5-6 points off.
Cooke is just out of grad school and has a big head. She grades with a fine tip comb and kills you for irrelevant things. If you are not a math lover, avoid this dictator at all cost. Not helpful in class, but ok in office hours
AVOID!
She's very matter of fact when explaining material, which is good for a math class. The quizzes are usually 2 questions, but tests are a little harder. She does grade very strictly, but if you only make stupid mistakes (like leaving a $ sign off) then you will still get your A. If you are looking for a straight forward class, then take her.
Not very descriptive in class. Goes through material very quickly and doesn't really go back over things even if asked. Goes through many examples to quick to follow instead of just a couple very thouroughly. More is not always better.
Good teacher!! She speaks very clearly which is very helpful. I liked her but she is very serious.I would recommend her.
Not too difficult. She is very anal about spelling on math tests and about little things. It is very possible to get an A if u stay on track though.
I personally thought she was a great teacher.. she explained everything very well. Yes, you have to go through the material fast, but that is how it is in every class (its college). . but cooke even offered outside study sessions b4 tests and the final for people who needed more help. Def. recommended!
Mrs. Cooke is very straightforward with her teaching. Overall I liked her, but sometimes I felt like I was back in high school when she would lecture us about doing the homework. If you're not going to do the work you're not going to do well in her class. She has no tolerance for slackers!
you must really study and practice to do well on her tests. quizes are grade boosters but not by much. gets papers back to you with in a week. not an easy A or even an easy B class. really must work hard but she's willing to help
Not my favorite math professor but definitely recommended. 3 tests during the semester with the lowest grade dropped making up 50% of grade. 7 quizzes (including a worksheet) with the lowest dropped making up 25%. Final exam the final 25% of grade. Lots of extra credit available on 2 of the tests. Tries to be interesting in lectures.
I thought this was a pretty easy class, made a B+ without trying too hard, she is just very picky on wording on tests!
Great teacher! She is very nice and very helpful and makes algebra completely understandable! I never do any homework and halfway study for the tests and I got A's! I have never really enjoyed math or been really good at but I really enjoyed this class and Mrs. Cooke makes it easy. Take her! You will learn a lot and enjoy the class!!
great teacher. explains everything very good.
The class was very short, so she didn't get to explain in much detail. However, when you have a question she happily answeres. She is very understanding. Homework was not mandatory, but a lot of quiz questions came from it. Quizes are easy, but the tests are a little harder.
Mrs. Cooke was so completely awesome in instruction and very helpful. If I had a question, sent her an email, and later that day have a response in my mailbox.
She was an alright teacher...I never went to class, never did any of the homework, and did poorly on some of the tests, but pulled up enough quizzes to get a C+ in the class,so I can't complain.LOVE LOVE LOVE her attendance policy and she almost never collects homework. The tests were worded awkwardly, but shes a math teacher, not an English major. =)
Very nice and good teacher. Tests are sometimes worded weird. Homework is not required. Great class as long as you go and pay attention.
Mrs. Cooke is great. She is very patient and nice. She explains things well. Lots of homework, but she does not collect it. Not much extra credit, and we had to do group work, which I hate. But overall, I think she was great and I would take her class again.
Good teacher, easily understood. Very helpful, deals well with questions, good office hours. Did not require homework, but many test and quiz questions came from it.
I really don't understand how people say she's a good teacher. She does not give out study packets for finals, there's few things actually graded in the class so if you do badly, it's hard to make it up. I went to class everyday and I still didn't get what the hell she was talking about. There are better professors than her.
She is a good teacher, does pretty well at explaining things, my fiancee got into a bad accident half way through the semester and she worked really really well with me, taking tests early and makeups, I went to class only half the semester and did okay on the tests and quizzes and made a B. Pay attention, hmwk not required but helpful in studying.
First of all this is rate my professor not bash my professor!!!Mrs.Cooke is a wonderful teacher. She made this semester easy! She grades fairly(do the work, work the problems the way she instructs and bingo you get the grade!!!)Graded material was given back the next day of class with an answer key with the problems worked completely so you know wher
She's an awesome teacher! I would definitely reccommend her for students who have trouble with math. She's very patient and willing to help!
In online section Spring 08. Mrs. Cooke is a great professor. She takes the time to handwrite examples and upload notes to WebCT to help in problem solving. She answers email promptly. She encourages us to ask for help. She's always there for us. Math is not my strong point but she has really made a difference for me!
She very maticilious when it comes to your tests
I'm not a math person at all and have struggled with math since middle school. I did not care for her, something just didnt click with the way she was teaching. I felt the class period was rushed and always went to the last minute so really no time for questions. If your not a math person I would recommend someone else.
I am no math whiz but I took the online course, she is great, went above and beyond making up handwritten notes and posting them online. She cares and answers questions promptly. Anyone who does not pass her class isn't trying hard enough. She makes herself available to students and helps them in every way possible! Hard course but she's great!
TAKE HER. Great prof. if you come to class and take notes. This is the easiest math class I've been in. She is a really good teacher and wants her students to excel. Gives lots of extra credit if you do your homework. I rarely did homework and I earned an A. Highly recommended(:
Easy class and teacher, I rarely went to class and never did homework and I ended up with an A. She gives group worksheets that boost your grade up and the quizzes are extremely easy. If you have any trouble she is always willing to help you. Take her
Young, helpful, and sweet. Makes sure everyone grasps the concepts before moving on, but moves at a fast pace. If you do the homework and pay attention, take notes, etc., then you will definitely get a good grade. :)
PRofessor Cook is just the sweetest professor in the world, she explains the material with 100% Clarity and is always worried about her students and making sure they're learning the information as the class advances.
Ms. Cooke is a very helpful teacher. I would love to take another class with her. I don't live in Gainesville so she let me take my tests with a test administer in Starke because of my job.
Ms. Cooke seems like a perfectly nice person but I don't care for her teaching style. She shows up late, rushes through lectures and rarely stops to explain. On the few occasions I have asked for help though, she has given it.
Very good teacher, she expects a lot, but you learn a lot!
She has helpful handouts that she uses during class and the homework she assigns is not mandatory which is nice, however I advise you to do the hw!! the hw is basically what is on the quizzes and tests. She is very straightforward, and does not try to trick you in anyway! If you have any questions go to her, she is very nice!
extremely helpful, and if you actually study, and use the materials she gives you. YOU WILL GET AN A. easy class if you actually try. great teacher, sometimes alillte anoying with all the worksheets but it is school right? lol
tough teacher she goes extremely fast and doesn't explain things well when students would ask, tough grading, she would take off for very minor details that weren't even in the answer. I wouldn't recomend her.
TERRIFIC
Great teacher, always there to help, will make sure that you understand class. However, this is a two sided deal. You have to show up to class and want to learn, then she will go out of her way to make sure you learn it!!
She is the first professor that actually shows you how to use the calculator. She wants her students to do well but she won't just let you slide. Even though the class was an online class her tests were still on paper. She will get back to you with emails and will make arrangements to reschedule a test. She is tough, but she knows her math.
Great at answering questions and helping the students. Very friendly and is the queen at handouts(which are very helpful). **extra 5 pt. on tests if you are there every day between the tests**
Horrible!! I passed trig with flying colors and this class I am failing. She's not a very nice teacher and is horrible at teaching. You can just read the book and learn more! I wouldn't take her ever again!
She has two young kids and teaches the class as if talking to little kids. Very easy class.
Very helpful teacher. She loves her job and will do anything to help you if you are having trouble in the class. She also gives extra credit to help with your grade, so I would advise to take her!
Her lectures are fast-paced and her tests are brutal, but she does give out a lot of partial-credit. There's also lab assignments which are big grade boosters. She makes sure there's time to respond to student's questions, which is most certainly needed after one of her lectures.
Ms. Cooke teaches effectively for some students, but I believe she was a bit too fast paced. It's a challenging class that requires all resources; math lab, extra studying, maybe math sites that can help. There's really no extra credit so you'd have to work even harder.
Nice person but very fast paced, could not answer questions effectively for many students who would usually give up and just say they understood. The book is AWFUL. Printed on computer paper and hard to read. Hand outs are most effective study tool. Some ex credit for attendance Recommended only for those naturally gifted in math and pick up easily
Ms. Cooke was very clear on what was expected from her students. She made sure that we new when she was available for office hours and help. She gave plenty of extra credit to help the overall grade. I would recommend her!!!
Had her class over the summer she is a great teacher, fast pace but very helpful and makes it clear when her office hours are and any available resources that could help you.
Took this class online so I didn't get much interaction with the instructor. She offered lots of extra credit and was helpful when needed. Just make sure assignments are turned in on time.
Took this class online. Love this teacher, really nice, very organized and helpful! You have to be willing to put in at least 2 hours of work in a day. Highly recommend. Do not take online if your not good at math.
Online class. She is remarkable. HW and Quizzes online, but paper Unit Tests and Final. She allowed me to have my paper tests/final proctored in Starke. I am awful at Math and have worst math anxiety so taking this online was scary. Helped me every step of the way. Take her if your an older student! MyMathLabPlus and TI83 calculator req'd. <3
Cooke is great. Sweet, helpful, clear, and very organized. Willing to help anyone that falls behind. A lot of worksheets that helped explain hard material. Attendance not mandatory but she'll give you extra credit on the test if you attend regularly. Highly recommend!
WORSE professor I've ever had. Teaches a million things in one day and does a horrible job at it. Everything she teaches is opposite to the book which she claims is "wrong." I've had straight A's for 3 years and she was my first F ever. Please find yourself an actual professor who knows the subject instead and save yourself the trouble.
Had her for int. algebra online and she seemed really nice and helpful. But took her for pre calc, ive had a's in all other maths and I CANNOT do good in this class. Ive reached out to her a few times for help and got nowhere! Take someone else
She doesn't take anytime to review ANYTHING, teaches you once do the homework and that's it. Go to her office hours and hope shes actually there when she says she will be. I regret taking her and would not recommend her to anyone really.
i love prof brandi cooke! she really does care about her students and she gives fast feedback. she makes time to work with you even if she isn't available she will try. she's awesome
Professor Cook is a nice lady. Her pre-calculus class is hard! I did pretty well on quizzes and exams, earning A's and B's. She did not collect or grade homework, which was frustrating. You must do the work to pass the tests, so do it, even if she doesn't count it. I had a B average, but then earned a C because the cumulative final was so hard!!
She seems like she's not quite ready to teach. She will teach something then say never mind that's all wrong do it this way. Very confusing... I love math & I usually get A's but her class was pretty hard so I got a B. If you already do well in math she's manageable. I wouldn't recommend for those who struggle with it.
Well I took AP and IB calc in high school and when I took her class I pretty much didn't understand. Tests are half easy and the last few questions are tricky. Looking by the ratings there aren't better for other calc 1, she is one of the ones that's popular but if I had to take this class again I'd try someone else.
Love Prof. Cooke! She actually make math interesting. She is thorough with explanations, provides handouts for study and review and always gives you a chance to ask questions. No surprise problems, you are quizzed/tested on what she goes over in class or gives from HW. EC is available. Show up, pay attention and study. You'll do great.
Prof. Cooke is clear on what she expects. Attend class, pay attention, do the HW (isn't graded btw). EC credit available. Quizzes and tests are exactly what she taught. Best thing about her is that she is always willing to answer a question and walk through a problem with you.
She was rude and unprofessional. Gave very confusing examples and is very disconnected from her class. She seems nice but really is a non-factor. Horrible teacher, terrible attitude, waste of out of state tuition. I do not recommend her to anyone.
Horrible. Worst math experience I have ever had. She was super unhelpful and rude. Very disconnected from the class. Very condescending.
What a joke! I actually should have failed this course, except the material was ridiculously easy. With any effort at all, you can pass this class. Didn't buy the book, only the online code. She never really gave any feedback; it was a learn-on-your-own course.
Amazing, best teacher ever
She uses MyMathLab for assignments. Assigns a chapter that is due every 3 days. I suggest not taking this class online as if you work during the day and need help. Good Luck. No time to really absorb the material. Use to only dislike math not I hate it.
If you have a hard time w math this isn't the class for you. She provides small and to the point lectures but you're pretty much on your own. there are only 3 tests so you have to do well on all of them in order to pass the class. I would not recommend this class to someone who needs a little extra help. No book, just mathlab online.
I DO NOT recommend this class. Test materials don't match the homework, and if you taking the class online, you go to campus to take WRITTEN tests, not on my math lab. She will NOT let you take early if you cannot make it to the original test date.
Professor Cooke is a picky grader but it's with reason because it helps you in the long wrong. She's clear about what she expects from her students. She assigns a lot of homework assignments but that's good because it buffers your grade! She really knows what she's talking about so I definitely recommend her.
Prof. Cooke was one of the best math teachers I've ever taken. She didn't just teach the math, she explained why it worked. If you are planning on taking higher math classes than Calculus 1, I would definitely recommend her. She's clear and concise and her lectures are very organized. It's a tough class, so of course you'll have to study hard!
If I could have Brandi Cooke teach the rest of my mathematics for my college career I would. I generally have a tough time with math, but my lifestyle didn't allow for a physical class. I thought taking math online would be a disaster, but Prof. Cooke is so clear and concise. Do the work, and make as much effort as she does to earn your A.
She is a tough grader. More specific on your syntax on your math work and WILL take off points if you do not write it correctly. She is helpful during office hours and will respond to your emails almost immediately.
Prof. Cooke was probably the best math teacher I've ever had. Her lectures are clear-cut and easy to understand. She was very helpful and kind during office hours, I'd strongly recommend going to them if you have questions. Attendance is important as it leads to 5% extra credit on the tests if you go to class often enough. She's a tough grader
Gives a lot of homework. 60+ problems due every 3 days. The quizzes & tests look nothing like the homework. Don't even bother asking her when you don't understand something, she won't respond. You pretty get to teach yourself off of mathlab using the show me an example feature. She sets a date for tests on campus & doesn't budge with the dates.
She was very clear with test dates and deadlines. Sent out lots of announcements and kept us updated on any changes. She also responds pretty quickly to messages. Since it is an online class, we learned through videos. I wish they had some more examples but overall, it was a pretty easy class. It was all on MathLab
Cooke goes out of her way to make herself accessible and to help with individual areas of issue. Class is time-consuming & hard. 70% of grade was determined by 3 regular tests+final. She is a harsh grader but goes out of her way to give points for effort and attempts. Her kind E.C. saved me. Good class but requires lots of studying and hard work :)
I have never had a bad math teacher, and I can absolutely say that she is the best one I've ever had. Lots of office hours available; she will work out problems out with you if you don't understand them. Lectures give plenty of examples. Homework is all online and reinforces topics taught in lecture. Labs help a lot. Clearly defined deadlines.
Listen here, MAT1033 is one of the hardest math classes in college. This is because its basically jam packed algebra all semester long, no breaks. I believe she is nice but i took this class online and she was horrible. One example, she only gave 30 mins for a 20 question quiz, the teacher i am with now gives 60mins because she knows its not easy.
Honestly, Professor Cooke was the best math instructor I have had to date. She provides good feedback and step by step guidance for questions missed.
This woman is the worst math teacher I have EVER had. She does not give good feedback and she is so rude. I would not suggest for anyone to take her class. Also, she does not work with you. I would ask her questions and she would give slick remarks. Don't take her unless its your last option.
She's good with feedback and really does try to help you through the material.
TOUGH GRADER. She checks whether your math grammar is right and marks off points if she doesn't see some steps in your work!!! Also, LOTS OF HOMEWORK. This is my second time taking this class and this was honestly harder than the first time. She's very nice, but to receive a good grade you need discipline and hard work. GO TO OFFICE HOURS.
best professor ever! really easy class, just do your homework. she gives a lot of extra credit points.
Professor Cooke is the best. She's a really fair grader, attendance is not mandatory but having perfect attendance before the test gives you 5 bonus points (this is THE BEST). She explains topics well and answers questions - definitely go see her in her office hours to get extra help if you are struggling. Overall, a great prof.
I took her class online. The homework and quizzes were a bit overwhelming -- you're going to end up doing something like 60-80 homework questions in four days and then two quizzes in the same period. The only instructional material available are videos she puts together of her working the problems out, and she doesn't thoroughly explain the process
If you're good at math, take her. if you're like me and need things to be clearly explained, don't take her. SO MUCH homework and a quiz to accompany each homework assignment. The only positive thing is that you can do the homework as many times till you get a hundred and have ten attempts at the quizzes.
Cons: Tests do not match material Homework & Quiz Intensive Little turnaround time between units Brandi is rude in emails Videos are hard to follow Figuring out the grade book is its own math problem Pros:? If you have any responsibilities other than this class, its hard to dedicate the time needed to complete all asspects of each unit.
Now that I have finshed my first semester I can give an honest review. Mrs. Cooke is nice. She is friendly. She responds to emails and is willing to help you. But, her lecture videos ( I took this online) are not very good. She does not explain things clearly. 2 homework/quizes every week. 3 tests and the final. You will have a lot of work-doable.
Prof. Cooke is very well organized online. Everything is very clear. I learned mostly through lecture videos and lecture notes. She answers emails promptly and with full detail. There was an opportunity for extra credit for each test we took as well as the exam. Great class, I would recommend.
Although my grade wasnt the greatest. Professor Cooke gave every opportunity for students to pass. Lots of homework but was needed for the tests. Great tracher.
Calc 2 must be the hardest class I've ever taken. The content is extremely difficult, so be sure to pay attention in class. Professor Cooke is very lecture-heavy, as every class there is no time wasted. She's a super tough grader and takes off points for little mistakes. Lectures were sometimes unclear and I had to watch YouTube lectures at home.
Professor Cooke is not for the faint of heart. HW every day of class, 3 tough tests (she takes points off for the smallest things), and she never lets out early. It is an hour and fifteen minutes of lecture, boring lecture. Recommend any other professor at SF. Also if you have a decent calculator (Nspire, Ti-89, etc.), be ready to buy an TI-83
Mrs. Cooke is incredibly nice. I never was close with her but she was always very nice. She offers extra credit for simply going to class. Class was very hard. She is very boring. It is very difficult to stay focused in class. Homework several times a week. Not an easy class. She has office hours and is helpful when you ask for help.
Ok, so this is what you need to know if you are taking Cooke. Test are medium level. She uses the book. Assigns 2-3 homework a week. People say she is a harsh grader, but that isn't true. If you understand the topic well and make a simple alg mistake she won't mark it all the way. But if you use improper notation then she will take points off. :)
She's the best math teacher and doesn't go hard on the grading. She gives you extra credit opportunities for bonus points on tests. The work is super easy you just have to study.
Professor Cooke is an amazing calculus professor. She gives extra credit on the tests based on attendance, and being in class helps substantially. You'll have three homework assignments per week, one lab per week, a quiz every week or two, and four tests plus the final. She is great with communication and wants her students to succeed.
She is a great Calculus Prof. he gives a lot of homework and quizzes which if you do them boost your grade significantly. The COVID-19 situation this year also did not disrupt the course as much as one would think. Highly Reccomend.
As with any online math class during a mini semester, there is a ton of material to cover in a short amount of time, So lots of homework and notes. There are plenty of opportunities to keep your grade up. Professor Cooke really did an awesome job; I loved the fact that the lecture videos she used were her own videos. She also gave extra credit.
Professor Brandi is one of the most amazing professors at Santa Fe imo. I was very scared that I wouldn't be able to handle the course at the beginning of the semester and almost dropped her class, so glad I didn't. She is quick to respond and amazing at explaining. Go to office hours and do everything assigned on time she is a lil picky on grading
Professor Cooke by far is the best math professor I have ever had. She makes her own lectures and the test are very straight forward. She is very accessible. Please take her class!!
Brandi Cooke was the worst professor I ever take in my whole life. The class content was not hard at all, but this profesor made everything harder. She is super thought grader, she takes point for grammar in calculus class? She is the type of profesor who disrespect international students.
Calc 2 is the most difficult course I have ever taken. Prof Cooke is a nice person but this course is extremely rigorous. Daily HW, extremely difficult tests (she is very picky on exams), and weekly labs and quizzes. Her lectures are okay and kind of boring. You have to understand the material or just drop the course. Spend time and you will do ok.
She is good at teaching but assigns a lot of work, expect at least one HW(10%) every class. Lowest Quiz(10%) and Lab(10%) gets dropped. 3 tests making up 50% of your grade, lowest replaced by final(20%). If you have perfect attendance you get +5% on the next upcoming test. I was able to pass without knowing Calculus 1 or 2, good teacher overall.
I've taken Calc 1-3 at SF and this class was by far the best out of all of them. Prof. Cooke gives straightforward lectures and is very accessible for questions and clarifications via office hours and email. While she is a very picky grader, she gives 5 points EC per test including the final just for showing up to class.
She's a chill professor, do note that there's hw almost every day. Being a math professor, she is known to be picky on how you approach a problem. In other words, she'll take points off for silly mistakes, just make sure to listen to how she wants it done and you'll be fine.
She isnt clear when giving out lesson notes she explains the problem one time and then expects you to know how to do the 2 lessons she assigns a week, 2 homeworks, 2 lesson notes, written work and a quiz. HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND. shes discouraged me from college tbh. Will make the whole work wrong because you put x as multiplication instead of *.
I enjoyed taking her class. Everything is very clearly laid out for each week, though there is a lot of work to do; homework and lesson notes are due just about every day. She will take time to work with you outside of class and help you. The only negative I can think of is that sometimes she writes extremely fast in her video lessons.
Online class requires "attendance" by submitting pre-printed notes that you have to complete by watching video lectures (this was not my favorite thing, but the notes were useful to look back on). Tests are a major part, however, she provides opportunities to retake each test.
Horrible teacher does not care about students. Does not answer emails and if you ask questions your belittled.
good, she is lit bit mean but its fine Something she goes really fast, so you migth pay attention to go in the same page
Professor Cooke has high quality lectures that clearly show you how to complete the work that is expected of you. She is also responsive to communication. Only kinda weird thing is her honor lock room scan requirements are pretty intense but it's not really a big deal.
Great professor. I'm not a math person and I've never liked it, but she explains it all in a way that makes sense. The material is definitely tough, but it's doable. Office hours are definitely helpful.
Professor Cooke gave a lot of homework, but her lectures were very detailed. The exams perfectly reflected the homework and quizzes, so passing them was easy. My only reason for not receiving an A was because she required going to a tutor regardless of grade, which didn't work with my work schedule.
Make sure to learn her notation for the exams. If you are an intelligent but not careful person she will make your life hell. Every thing she grades is pedantic af, and we think she purposefully runs the class like a weed out just make validate herself. She's a smart teacher though but she is hard on you.
Cooke is not recommended as a teacher due to her tendency to nitpick assignments and deduct points even for correct answers. Her excessive lecturing style and lack of class engagement make it difficult to learn. Cooke also does not spend enough time reviewing homework questions and only offers minimal office hours. She doesn't like to give out As.
You will learn the material. However, she loves to nitpick for the smallest thing, even if you got the answer right. I have show my UF friends her tests and they even say their TAs/ Profs would not take away points for the stuff she does. If you already took calc 1 in high school, just skip her is not worth the headache.
She doesn't want you to pass her course. She nitpicks every little thing about tests/quizzes/labs and will take your grade down for even getting the answer right. So unbelievable the things she takes points off for, like use of a semicolon in sentences. Do not hesitate to take a different professor, by far the worst one of my college career so far.
Although she had pretty clear grading criteria she was very strict with it. The partial credit from the test seemed so confusing and uneven at times. Often times the lectures were completely unhelpful and it seemed as if we were there to kill time. The only reason I had a good grade was due to study outside the class room and previous knowledge.
Big NOPE. Cooke seems proud of her pickiness. I studied the very specific way she wants our work to look just as much as I studied the actual course material, because simply getting the answer right is not enough for Cooke. This is a problem. If you take her, prepare for intense nitpicking. Lecture speed is too fast and pointlessly overcomplicated.
This teacher is one of the harshest graders ive ever seen, but is at least somewhat clear on what she will take points off for. Makes simple concepts very complex by overexplaining and the three tests are basically what your grade hinges on.
She is very particular on how you show your work. She takes points off for unnecessary things even though you know exactly what you're doing. Lectures are way too fast paced and she doesn't allot time for questions during the lectures and you can miss some of the examples because she goes too fast. A lot of homework, but gives out bonus points.
I took Cooke a year ago, & after being at a university I had to come back to say she is the worst professor I have had the displeasure of taking & the only C I've gotten. Her lectures are hard to follow & full of constant mistakes. She acts like she cares about you, but she doesn't. She prides herself on making this class harder than necessary.
Beyond bad! Do not take.
She understands the material, but seems to barely be able to teach the course. Also is very dependent on the student knowing English, because she has many questions on the lecture papers that have you create a sentence based off the question and answer you believe is correct.
Not a fan
The worst professor I have ever had. She takes more points off if you don't show the correct work even if you get the question right. You have to show your work the EXACT way SHE demonstrates it in class and if you don't she will take points off. Highly don't recommend. Please take my advice and save yourself while you still can.
This professor so picky about taking notes and wants you to copy exactly how she writes the notes. Also, the notes taking is for attendance and grade. She goes through the notes very quickly and when its time to do the homework, what you learned from notes is kind of on the homework, You will have to learn of the homework videos or math textbook.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Homework and quizzes barely do anything to your grade.
Professor Cooke is nice enough however is an impossible grader. She made basic math beyond difficult to comprehend. The insane amount of homework given is way more difficult than what she teaches in her lectures.
Ms. Cooke is an extremely harsh grader. She assigns a lot of homework but her lectures are fairly good and the expectations are clear. Class was generally boring but if you try you will be fine. Would not really recommend to a friend though.
Brandi Cooke is particular about note-taking, but her lectures are detailed. Utilize unstuck ai, the textbook, and office hours to stay on top of the fast-paced content. Overall, a manageable class with a fair grading system.
She explains things in only one way and is very disrespectful when answering questions. She will mark off points if you don't do the problem exactly how she wants it even if you get the answer correct. She does not accept any late work no matter the situation, including family emergency.
Very picky on the little things on tests that don't matter. Will grade labs and quiz super late so you can't use it to study. Pretty lazy grader and complicates easy subjects idk why.
Personally, I don't recommend this teacher. I'm a person that usually enjoys math and this is a class that I did not like at all. She expects you to know at lot of things that she doesn't tell you need to know. In my opinion she goes too fast for my liking and for a subject that might be new to people it's not fun.
This is not an easy class in the slightest. There is a lot of homework which takes up hours of your time, yet it barely effects your grade. She is a very picky grader. Even if you get an answer right, if the work is slightly wrong she takes off points. However, I do appreciate that she includes a Final Exam grade replacement.
Incredibly tough grader, helps a lot outside of class though
Calc 2 is a hard class no matter who you take. Professor Cooke does cover all of the material and makes it obvious what will be on the test. The issue is she is very disorganized, and she has a very strict grading policy. Once you get used to how she grades, it's not too bad, but it does take a bit to get used to. Redo her notes to study for tests.
Very good professor. I understand that she is a very tough grader and will push her students to the limits. Believe me, I was a dual-enrolled honors student. However, with enough time and effort (and patience), you can succeed. She is always willing to help, no matter what. I will always be grateful for Prof. Cooke and how she prepared us.
Im not going to say she teaches bad, but she does explain things quickly, she has no humor, shes passive aggressive, and she expects you to copy her process exactly. I raised my hand for an accuracy check on a problem and she erased the whole thing because i didnt do it exactly the way she showed us. Don't miss class or you'll miss a quiz/ activity
Take it w/ some1 else. HW & test probs r much diff frm wht we'r taught @ times. Offers 3 pts EC if u show up everyday leadin up 2 an exam. U can't makeup quizzes & its hard 2 makeup tests too bc I asked in advance 2 makeup a test 2 class days after & couldnt. Lowest quiz, 2 hw grades dropped. Final replaces lowest test if higher. Very picky grader.
Worst professor ever. Lectures are difficult to understand, and she goes 100mph all the time. She struggles to follow the syllabus schedule and is a bad lecturer. Tests are extremely difficult and gives no test prep/practice exams. Tests are graded unfairly and takes points off for IMPROPER GRAMMER. Homeworks take hours every week and are useless.
I forgot to rate her when I took this class, but oh my god I hated her. Avoid if you can, Calc 2 is one of the harder prereqs for engineers.
Worst class I have ever taken. She doesn't care if you get the right answer, and don't care for other methods besides the one she uses, if you don't show your work exactly like hers, you will get bad grades, she also gives quizzes after 2 weeks you learned the subject, so it's really confusing, and what she teaches is way easier than hw and exams.
This class singlehandedly made me dread waking up for an entire semester and was pure misery. Terrible & overly complicated lectures for simple topics. Tons of HW, half of which is irrelevant to exams and not anything we're taught along with zero exam help/prep. HORRENDOUS grader, taking off points for grammatical errors. SUPER passive aggressive.
Avoid taking her at all cost!! Took Diff Eq w/ her in the fall, she goes 1000 mph, & does not explain well. Its a math class but practice on your grammar i.e., subscripts and exponents, EXTREMELY PICKY. She teaches this class as if EVERYONE was a math major, ENGINEERS BEWARE. A lot of homework, video lessons, and worksheets. Exams are HORRIBLY HARD
I would rather swim in a lake with gators than taking this professor again. I LOST 2 POINTS ON THE TEST (0.5pts * 4 questions) BECAUSE I DIDNT PUT A DAMN CAPITAL LETTER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SENTENCE. WHAT THE FK??????????????
Lectures had frequent tangents where she would go on about irrelevant tidbits. Lectures are less difficult than content covered in homework and exams. Grading is ridiculously strict. She seeks to deduct points, going as far as picking on grammar. She's not mean, just bad at teaching. Frequently got headaches from trying to follow her lectures.
The homeworks are 10 times hard then the lecture problems. Not considerate of your grade and won't care how you score and isn't lienient at all. Toughest grader, getting the correct answer doesn't matter and will dox you for everything that isn't of her teaching. So you can only study her methods and can't learn anything outside of her teachings.
