Cruickshank is God's gift to the world! He is a FANTASTIC professor- I would recommend him to anyone! He goes over everything in class and is always there for extra help. He may very well be the smartest man alive!! Everyone loves Cruickshank!!!!!!!!!

For the idiot who wrote that about Cruickshank... if you had gone to recitation, you would know that we spent a full hour going over homework the day before the quizzes. So to clear things up, this professor is one of the most helpful I have ever had!!!

An incredible teacher who is an asset to NAU's Chemistry department. Always willing to help students, he has a great course pack with prior quizzes and tests and just overall phenomenal. Take this instructor; wait a year/semester if needed.

I love the way he teaches!

Dr. Cruickshank is the best teacher ever. I love him!! And he's incredibly nice. In lab, he always came and made friendly small talk about my unknowns, and outside of class he always says hi to me, even though I was only in his lab. He is very friendly and personal.

The best teacher and class I have had at NAU. If you do have of what he asks of you, you should have no problem getting an A. If you like writting notes, and reading out of a textbook he is not for you.

He not only has a fantastic sense of humor but he makes the course very easy to follow and gives you all the notes you need! He is a great teacher that keeps you interested!

Cruickshank's a great teacher. not exactly the easiest cause he makes sure you learn the material. he uses a recording program that allows you to view the class online. if you miss a class or just want clarification this is a very convienent tool. he's a lot of help during his office hours and his tests are very reasonable.

Dr. Cruickshank gives you all of the tools you need to pass his class. Lectures are recorded and posted online for review or if you miss a class, majority of notes are provided in course packet, recitation and SI sessions help with weekly topics, quizzes and tests are fair, and he is available to help you.

He is a kind person and good teacher. Strict on his grading, tests were hard but quiz's were easy.

Great Prof, made Chem worth while. I still don't like chem but it was possible to understand and pass the class. I still don't think I will ever use it. I think he is a closet republican!

I thought Dr. Cruickshank was very helpful and cared a lot about student progress. He made a huge effort to help everyone to succeed by providing many practice tests and quizzes to study off of. The subject can be challenging but if one works hard they can do very well in this class. He is a very fair grader.

Dr. C is the best chem professor I've had. He is very helpful and will answer any questions you have. He also knew me by name, which is a great quality to have in a professor. He also comes to the lab and helps you understand what you are doing.

I was never too fond of chemistry prior to taking this class. He really wants you to succeed and offers multiple resources to do so (retests, practice exams with keys). I've always been a little bit of a technophobe, but I love the way the class is organized. It's very easy to review material if you didn't quite understand it in class.

Doc C is the best. Im a chem major and until his class i was very worried about it. Now im excited to continue on with it. Between his practice exams and quizzes, excellent lectures, and his ability to make everything sound simple he helped me learn the material well. Also he does a comic strip at the beginning of each class and keeps things fun:)

Dr. C is one of the best teachers I have had at Nau.I was in a 200 student class and he was one of the friendliest I have ever had.His class is difficult if you dont attend,you do need to pay attention and take notes,i find CHM hard.You barely use the book.All of his study guides for tests and quizzes are just like the actual thingHIGHLY reccomend!

Dr. C was a great professor. In almost every lecture, half of it was just lecturing about readings in the text, and the other was working through practice problems. There were weekly quizzes, periodic reading quizzes (admin. with clickers) and four exams. Part of the exams were taken in a group, as well, which generally raised test scores.

IF YOU NEED TO TAKE CHEMISTRY AT NAU, TAKE DR. C. He is THE BEST teacher in the entire WORLD, explains everything you could ever want to know about chemistry, and makes all of his lectures entertaining. I've never enjoyed a challenging class so much in college. Two thumbs up.

Amazing teacher. Very helpful. The work isn't to hard and you do a lot of worksheets that give you a really good grasp of the class. Definitely take any chemistry class with him!

Dr. C is one of the best teachers i have had since graduating high school. His use of prelectures and numerous worksheets help GREATLY if you use them. His online office hours make it very easy to get questions answered. if there is a class available through him, i suggest you TAKE IT!!

I hated the online homework system he used out of all of the homework systems I've had to use at NAU. I never understood anything in the lectures and HAD to go to SI every week for his quizzes and exams to understand the material. she did a better job at explaining it than he did!!

Dr. C is an awesome professor!!! I am an older student however I appreciate professors who reward those who work hard. Go to class because he explains a lot and gives clicker points. Do all practice exams and practice tests as they are pretty identical to real things and got me high A's on all, as long as you understand.

Seriously great!! He is my favorite teacher, I'm taking a long class and he breaks it up with comics or fun chemistry videos. He is really helpful and has so many resources for you to use! Do the pre-lectures and you'll be fine! He also allows group exams that are extra credit added to your test score which is great! He is awesome!!

Could not have asked for a better professor. He is genuinely a nice guy and is more than willing to help you out. Him and his TA's have over 10 hours of office hours, recitation, and supplemental instruction a week. It would be hard not to pass this class because of the effort he puts forward. He also shows Calvin and Hobbes everyday!

Awesome professor, one of my favorites at NAU. Exam are pretty easy and the online homework system he uses is a good one. You can't go wrong taking him for 151 or 152.

At first, I really liked this teacher. After about a month into the semester, I begun getting very bored in class and I could barely see the board and he didn't let me switch seats. Also, the amount of homework was ridiculous sometimes it didn't really prepare me for the exams. I had to study in other ways to do well.

Dr. Cruickshank is humorous and engaging as a professor. He's super helpful and clear with his lessons. His tests are a bit tough at times, but if you talk to him, he will be able to help you in your confusion. He's extremely smart and wants the best for his students.

Cruickshank was one of the best professors I've had at NAU. He is a very fair grader, explains everything very clearly, and made a very boring subject (to me, at least) very enjoyable. If you put in the amount of effort he puts in his teaching, getting an A will be no problem.

Dr. C is the man. He is extremely clear and articulate in every one of his lectures and has a deep understanding of all the concepts. He is very friendly and approachable, and is always willing to help. The Calvin and Hobbes comics before lecture totally make my day.

Dr. C. is a cool dude. He wants to make sure that everyone passes. For his lecture he gives worksheets with examples, he goes over the each example in detail so thats great.

This is not an easy class but if you put in the effort you can get an A. His lectures where great and he really tried his best to help his students understand the material. I would definitely take his class again.

Dr. C explained difficult material very well. I really enjoyed his lectures, he made math interesting. The tests were very difficult but he accommidated the class by allowing resubmissions which saved my grade. I would suggest going to SI and his office hours to get help because the material is hard. Overall I liked the class.

Best chem professor around

This class had a lot of work strung along with it. We had homework every week plus a quiz, a prelecture, and a prelecture quiz. Other then that I had a hard time with Chem in high school, but with him as a teacher everything made so much more sense. Work hard and this class will help you a ton!

Very nice and provides many examples so that you can understand the material! You don't really need your textbook, but it's nice to have when it's late at night and you don't understand the material that well. Makes you laugh with his Calvin comics - not too good with communication through email. Go to his office hours!

Literally the best chemistry professor on campus. I had to retake CHM 151 after failing it with another professor, & Dr. C was really clear with his teachings. He gives a lot of examples and explains things more than he does "lectures" which is helpful. Always do the homework & show up to class if you want to pass. Office hours can save your grade!

Cruickshank is a great professor! Willing to help you anytime and gives you chances to earn extra credit. There is a lot of work in this class but doing homework, attending SI's and going to lectures will almost guarantee you a passing grade.

He started every class with Calvin and Hobbes, was approachable, and really wanted everyone to succeed. He hates technology so don't be on your phone or laptop or he will call you out. Drops lowest quiz score. In my class you switched off from group or take-home tests which was kinda annoying but still up-ed my test score by a letter grade.

Amazing! his lectures are very easy to understand and he posts tons of extra materials online for you if you need extra help but can't come to SI or office hours, he is also very open to talking to you via email.

Dr. C has been a great professor all year long. I took him for CHM151 and I'm taking him next semester for CHM152 as well just because I love his teaching methods. Beware, he uses his time to the absolute fullest, so don't expect to be getting out of class early. He's super funny and really seems to care about the success of his students.

Dr. Cruickshank is one of the most amazing science professors I have had on this NAU campus. He lends so much of his time to students outside of class, there is no reason that you would not have enough help. He does worksheets in class where you go over the math. He does have a lot of homework and assignments, but you will understand chemistry.

I nearly cried when I realized this was my last semester with Dr. C. He is an incredible instructor and really works to make sure that his students understand the material. Chemistry is a difficult subject for me, but I ended with an A in 151 and 152 due to his dedication to students' learning. I couldn't have done as well in CHM with anyone else.

I love Dr. Cruickshank! He is so caring, friendly, and helpful. Class was sometimes boring, but I believe that reflects on the subject rather than his teaching. He strives to keep class interesting with chemistry videos and makes cute little jokes. I'd recommend taking the recitation since you can get direct help from him and extra practice.

I had Dr. Cruickshank for CHM 151 and CHM 152. He made the material easy to understand and he is pretty funny. I enjoyed the classes.

Dr. Cruickshank is amazing, and very passionate about chemistry, but not in a way that makes him over-bearing. There is quite a bit of work outside of class because it went down from 4 days a week to 2, but he always makes it easy to understand.

He's fantastic at explaining chemistry. He sometimes has a habit of breezing through some information rather than explaining it. Dr. Cruickshank is always willing to help students understand the material in his office hours. He gave retakes on exams or "group tests" which was helpful for extra points. If you study and ask for help, it will be easy.

He is an amazing person. He is really funny and understands that we get bored listening to lectures, so he gives us breaks. There is a lot of homework, but it is mandatory for all chem 151 classes. He is willing to help outside of class.

Brandon is BY FAR my favorite professor I have ever had. He is clear about his goals for every student and aims for all to succeed. He offers so many resources to help its insane!Keeps class fun and light hearted. Not too homework heavy. Exams are moderate but allows a GROUP retake to boost individual test by 5%! If you have to take chem, take him!

Dr. C is the best! His positive attitude really makes this an enjoyable class. There are prelecture quizzes due before most classes, but if you watch the videos you will be fine. The practice tests really reflect what the test will be like. If you aren't understanding the concepts fully, go to recitation or office hours. It really helps!

I definitely recommend to take Cruickshank's class for 151 and 152. He made chemistry easy for me and it's one of my worse subjects. You have to watch the prelectures though in order to do well.

Chemistry in general is tough, but he has been teaching for 20+ years and makes it easy. The material is tough but if you go to class and SI, you will do fine! Always extra credit on exams and for going to SI. He did allow retest this semester but not guarnateed every semester

I had Dr. C for both 151 and 152, and he is one of the best professors I have had here at NAU. He is very caring and friendly, and makes does his best to make the content understandable for everyone. Both 151 and 152 are tough courses, so you have to put in a lot of effort, but he provides all of the resources to pass. I strongly recommend him.

Dr. C is hands down one of the best professors I've had at NAU. He genuinely cares about the success of his students. He makes it extremely easy to pass. Go to class, do the homework, and do the practice tests. Those are key to passing this class.

An absolutely incredible teacher, will be able to teach you CHM 152 in the best way with the most knowledge. Clicker questions everyday for attendance, lots of homework, multiple choice tests, hard class but easily doable. Go to SI and sign up for his recitation if you can.

Sometimes his lectures are hard to understand and he moves quickly through actual notes, but slowly through practice problems. If you do all the assignments and show up to every class, you should do well in this course.

Professor Cruickshank is an amazing teacher. He does everything he can to help students pass. His homework load is two assignments weekly. I really suggest taking the recitation class along with the lecture. It will really help you to understand the topics talked about in the lecture.

Very helpful professor. He offers a lot of extra credit for attending office hours and such, take advantage of it! Put the work in beforehand rather than asking for more chances or forgiveness after. I neglected the class a bit and finished with an 89.5 that he wouldn't bump, but a few office hours would have changed that.

He clearly wants his students to understand it. He has homework weekly and in-lecture quizzes (only 3-5 questions at most), but these are designed to reinforce his material. You should do well. Tests are taken individually, then as a group afterwards. If your group scores higher than the individuals, 5% is added to your test. It's an amazing bonus.

Dr. C is great. Instead of doing notes he does practice problems & you can work with others. Exams are just like the study guide/problems & allows retakes for every in-class exam, except the final. Gen chem is challenging but go to office hours & study you will get a B. Theres weekly hw/pre-lec qs/inclass qs, do well to get those extra points.

Spring 19. Just hands down the best professor at NAU, its not close. He cares about students, he even gets to know your name if you are putting in effort and going to office hours. Youd be silly to take anyone else for Gen Chem. People like Dr C make college worth it!

Even completely online, he still teaches so well with practice problems and nicely formatted notes. He's always willing to go back over material if someone is confused and keeps up with any questions. Very forgiving with homework and quiz grades and the exams are exactly like them. I made SURE to sign up for chem 152 with him :)

Dr. C is one of my favorite teachers/professors I have ever had. He cares about his students and starts each class with a joke. He is a great guy and I highly recommend getting into his classes whenever possible.

Chemistry is not the most interesting thing to me but I was able to stay in line and try my hardest because of Dr. C's commitment to his students.

Dr. C is a real gem when it comes to chemistry professors. I struggled with chemistry in high school but came to love the subject with Dr. C as the professor. Made chemistry a fun class to attend every morning even though we were on zoom. Starts with a chemistry cat meme that made the class more bearable. Pretty easy as far as chemistry goes. Has a lot of extra help for anyone struggling.

Gen Chem is always going to be a difficult class. However, if you take it with him, he will do his absolute best to give clear lectures that are interesting. Exams are super similar to the practice exams, so study those. If you have questions, DO ask him. If you are 100% lost on the material, let him know in office hours, it helps!

By far the best professor I have had since coming to NAU, I was nervous about passing but he gives you so many resources and opportunities to practice while still maintaining the right level of difficulty. Exams are definitely difficult but he makes learning easy and fun, he is an amazing professor, would take this class again in a heartbeat!

Dr. Cares is super passionate about chemistry and is a fun, caring teacher. But personally, his lectures just don't really help when it comes to the tests. The lessons make you seem confident in what you are learning, bc you're given super easy examples in class but expected to know how to do the harder ones on the test.

This guy is freaking amazing. He really cares about the subject he is teaching and engages the class constantly. Even though I am not a lab science major myself, he taught Chemistry in a way that made me interested. Thank you Dr. C for being an awesome chem prof :)

Best CHM prof I've had by far. He's a great guy and clearly wants his students to succeed. The lectures blurred a little bit, but the in-class practice problems were soooo helpful (constantly used those to help with my homework). Take advantage of office hours 1. they actually help and 2. he gives extra credit.
