Professor Elliott is the best thing to happen to the music department!! He inspires you to be better and makes you learn music, not just sing. If you work hard, you'll get an A, but what's more important is that you'll become a better musician and walk away from performance proud. Rehearsals are challenging, but he adds humor and fun to them.
I was searching for other MC professors and saw Elliot. He's my fav prof so far. Smart and teaches you more than just music. He wants to help you and he even holds study sessions at starbucks. Lectures are funny but clear. One thing: don't even THINK of using a phone in his class. Actually impressive how he can spot them and he'll call you out! Lol
Prof Elliot is on here! He's new here but I think he's one of the best I've had yet. Liked the lectures and how he uses videos, music, powerpoint, and humor. Midterm, final, and a concert report is pretty much it. You have to do these online quizzes as well and they're easy. He offers some extra credit and you can tell he wants to help you.
I honestly can't think of a better professor or class to start off my day. I didn't want to take Elliot's class, but the 8:30am was the only one left. I'm stoked I ended up taking him. Go to his study sessions after school! Their fun and super helpful. And read the book.
I'm super happy that I took concert choir this semester, but super bummed that I didn't do it until my final semester here. It was an amazing experience and professor elliott is so good. I've sung in choir before but he is at a whole new level as a director. he makes you work hard and inspires you along the way. I loved every moment.
3 words: take his class. Yes, you'll have to work harder in his class. Yes, you have to buy additional books. Yes, you have to buy and use your tuning fork religiously. Yes, he pushes you. But, you'll get so much out of his class. I wish he taught the other musicianship labs.
Professor Elliot is funny and really nice. I loved taking this class. Show up, participate, do the assignments and read the book. It's pretty standard stuff. As long as you do that you will pass. Good luck!!
Professor Elliot is amazing. I loved the way he taught. My only advice: learn to love your tuning fork and practice every day. Good luck.
He's an awesome director and so different in his approach. I can't believe he was able to teach us all how to read music so quickly. I feel so much better being able to figure out keys, sight read, sing healthy and make MUSIC. He's serious and demands hard work, but he's also quirkyfunnycute. TAKE CONCERT CHOIR!!!
Some people think he's hard. If you read the book, attend class, and do the online quizzes, you'll get an A. Simple as that. Prof Elliott is an excellent teacher. Organized, patient, and takes time outside of school to help. Go to his study sessions at starbucks! They're super helpful.
Two words: simply amazing.
He really pushes you, but he's so good. I had to retake this class (long story), and I'm so glad I have elliot. he really knows how to teach and he's funny and super helpful. Definitely take him for musicianship
Let's be real. Elliott expects excellence and he has you work hard but he helps you. If you're hoping to take choir because it's an easy A, run the other way. If you're hoping to work hard to make awesome music and learn from an incredible musician and person, then absolutely take choir. I'm so glad I got to study with him this year.
All I can say is that he's the best music teacher I've had.
I'm music major + love this prof. One of the most intimidating teachers. Have him for choir and love it. Challenges you and teaches you how to be successful at making music. The kind of prof. you don't want to disappoint because you respect him so much. He's sarcastic, maybe harsh, sometimes sassy. Not for the faint of heart. Totally recommended!
Prof. Elliot is one of the best music teachers I have had. He is strict and a bit difficult, but he truly wants his students to succeed in music. I have learned many valuable life-long music skills in this course. Prepare to practice a lot, though. Serious musicians will like this class. Beware: This class may not be for those looking for an easy A
I'm simply blown away with Prof. Elliot. He's just amazing. Demands hard work which I think we need a bit more of here. I have learned so much about music and about life. a lot of people think he's intimidating because he's friggen good at what he does. I love his sense of humor and passion for music. Take him!
Prof. Elliott is very sarcastic and funny. Just recently started teaching but very passionate and knowledgeable about what he's teaching. I found the class relatively easy, but you have to put some work in to get an A. I would very much recommend him to anyone looking to take a music class.
This guy knows his stuff and his lectures are funny. I love how some people think he's so hard, but if you read the book, it's so easy. His passion for music makes you want to learn more. Definitely take him so long as you're willing to do the readings. My favorite GE so far.
By far my favorite class and favorite teacher this semester. If you read the book and do the assignments, you'll get an A. He was always quick in responding to emails and he's actually there for office hours.
As a teacher, he's very clear, and very good at explaining the material. Be prepared to sight-read sing alone during class (in musicianship). He'll push you, but its a good kind of push. He has a very sarcastic, snarky sense of humor, but its great. Not great for those easily offended. Don't take it personally though; he's not *trying* to be mean
Prof Elliott saved my semester and helped me with transferring to a really good 4-year music program. He's an excellent music teacher and has helped me with my voice in so many ways. Take him for any class you can and don't be afraid to ask for help.
If you want to learn about music even a little bit, definitely take Brandon! If you don't care at all then don't, he does make you work but he is very knowledgable. He teaches a lot of good information if you have a hint of interest.
I've learned more about music theory from him in one semester than I ever have from any other music teacher. He works with sections individually and trust and expects us to work on our own. The music is challenging but a lot of fun to sing. He's helpful, he's funny, and I definitely recommend his class.
I was really impressed that amongst all of his classes, he took the time to check in with me when I was gone for a couple classes. As dumb as it sounds, it felt nice to be noticed when I was dealing with a family emergency. He's a great professor and it's clear that he wants his students to succeed. *very* quick at responding to your emails.
I learned so much in just one semester about making music and singing. It's so clear how much Mr. Elliot cares about his students and their future successes. Will definitely take again and I highly recommend anyone considering music does as well.
When we first started class we had different professors, but Mr. Elliott is tough but explains all types of eras well. I was in awe of everything I learned in his class. You must be there at all times to learn .
Really enjoyed his class overall. Very clear and fair and his lectures are always informative and funny. Be prepared to do a concert report which will cost time and money, but it's super fun. He offers some extra credit and responds to emails quickly. Not an easy A, but he makes it clear on how to get a good grade. You DO need your textbook.
He is an awesome musicianship teacher and I wish I could take him for the other ones. He pushes you and makes you work hard but I'm a much better musician thanks to him. Definitely take him for musicianship.
Now that grades are posted I did better in his class than I thought. The tests are tough but he does give a nice curve to help us out. The participation portion of the grade can be your saving grace. Overall great prof and he makes the class interesting and funny. He's good at making some of the stuff relevant to us too
It's my first time taking an online class, so it took me a while to get used to d2l. Pretty straightforward and I appreciate that the course was well organized. He responds very quickly to emails and I even visited him during his on-campus office hours for help. You do have to do 2 concert reports fyi.
I want to be prof elliot when I grow up. He's seriously good and knows how to teach you how to sing and how to read music in such a short amount of time.
Finally done! My first online class and I haven't been in college in years, so this class kicked me in the butt. He is always checking in with students and is helpful. Lots of mini 3-5 question quizzes though, so be sure to keep up with the reading. I learned a lot! It doesn't replace a live class and I wish I had learned from him in person.
This man goes above and beyond for his students, especially if you ask him for help. Wouldn't be where I am without him. Take him and you will have to work hard but you don't regret it.
Professor Elliott is the best professor at Moorpark College!!! I took his online class and I'm very glad I did. I learned a lot from reading the book. He also cares about his students and is very knowledgeable, he knows the material very well.
Really funny and enjoyable teacher. As for the class itself, its pretty straightforward. He's clear, and I like how he always does chapter reviews though I wish we didn't always have to do it in groups. Overall, he's great and I'd recommend him for music appreciation.
He's great. The concert report does suck because there aren't a lot of option nearby but provides a list of options. Just be prepared to drive to LA. All the music app classes have to do it though
Great professor! would love to take him for another class. The concerts are really fun to go to. Really funny and fun teacher to have! There's no way you can fail, it's super interesting and fun to learn about so just put in the effort and you'll pass! definitely would recommend !
Professor Elliott was a great teacher. He absolutely loves what he's doing! Word of advice: if you can't stand classical, choral, or orchestral music, this is NOT the class for you. The class consists of reading 4-5 CH a week (a chapter is 3-7 pgs) and taking listening quizzes on music. It is required to attend 2 orchestral or choral performances.
Funny, straight to the point and pushes you like master roshi did goku, and it is all worth it
This man has inspired me and given me hope for a life in music. That's all I have to say
Definitely my best online class experience so far. I really like how he takes the time to follow up/get to know us and on more than one occasion he'd send me an email. His videos are helpful and he does offer e.c. He doesn't do exams, just a bunch of short quizzes which is great, but be sure you don't fall behind.
This was an excellent course taught by an excellent instructor. If you have any aspirations in the music industry, you need to take this. Challenging course, but totally worth it.
He is an excellent teacher for musicianship. I learned so much in my one semester with him. Definitely take him if you can. He's not easy at all, but you'll be glad he's pushing you.
First off, this class was definitely easy. I really got the impression he cares about his students and he answered my emails very quickly. In the class you read short chapters, take a 5 question quiz based on the reading, write an essay on one concert (I went to a Moorpark one for $5) and no final or midterm! Plus tons of extra credit chances.
Highly recommend as a music appreciation professor! He knows the material well and is very passionate about what he teaches as well. Would definitely take him again!! The online four week class I had over summer was quite a lot of work but was not difficult.
Definitely one of the best online experiences I've had. Super clear, and I like the shorter more frequent tests rather than 2-3 large exams. He responded within minute to my emails and I couldn't believe it. Really great class but not for lazy people during the summer session. It's a lot of work.
Really awesome professor. Knowledgeable and helpful both in class and outside of class. Speaks from experience but also talks about the details. I took this class expecting it to be boring and a waste of time but I learned so much about the music industry and feel ready to jump into the industry now. Definitely need your textbook btw.
Mr Elliot's class is a little different than most classes, as there is not a final or exams. You instead have 2-3 quizes per chapter and there are about 50 chapters in the book. I recommend taking the quizes in the book first (Not for credit), as they match the graded quizes. The class is time consuming but easy to understand/follow.
Professor Elliot is an awesome instructor. Im actually a business major and took this course just to learn more about the music industry. After his class, I want to work in the music biz. I learned more about business in his one class than I did in 3 years as a business major. All business and music majors should take this class.
Im in his online summer class so it is a ton of work squished into 4 weeks. He emails every week, reminding us what assignments we have to do. No finals/exams. There are several open book quizzes each week (5 to 25 questions). Hard not to pass. One 2 page concert report, clear criteria! Lots of reading to prepare for quizzes. Great instructor!
Fantastic online teacher. Clear criteria and instructions, very communicative sending lots of reminders (even personal ones to me when I sort of lost track of due dates). The summer session is only 4 weeks so its a lot of material but he sorts it out well. Just a bunch of short quizzes rather than exams. Highly recommend over summer.
The only reason I tagged lots of homework is because this was a 4 week double accelerated online course, so each week theres a lot of easy but busy work to be done! Professor Elliot is extremely laid back, his quizzes each week are all open book (great quizlet study resources), and his concert project is very minimal and actually fun. Easy A!
Brandon Elliot is seriously an awesome guy. I took his online class, but even then I could tell he was extremely accommodating. He gave at least 2 extra credit opportunities, gave us extra "fudge points" to boost our grade, and even gave us full credit on some assignments so we didn't have to do them. Easy A! and I learned a lot about music.
He is excellent. Funny, sometimes sarcastic, but so compassionate and caring for even online students like me. When I had technically difficulties, he was on the phone with me with tech support. When internet was out during the fires, he gave us all full credit and told us to focus on our safety and not an assignment. He was very supportive.
This is the best online class. He is extremely organized and realizes we all are not taking just his course so he does not overload, he is genuinely passionate about music. Love his class.
As a new student at Moorpark that just stumbled upon choir, I didn't know what to expect. Now that it's over, I can honestly say it was the best thing I've ever done. The people are amazing, Elliot is just friggen awesome, and we did such great music. I'm definitely coming back and any student at MCC should take choir. DO IT!
Actually the best online class experience Ive ever had. Clear, well structured, and you really do connect with him and your classmates. Highly recommend. Im a primary teacher and was thoroughly impressed.
Music leads one to a better place. Take this class and you will be introduced to some well known and some newly discovered classical composers. You do need to show up and be ready to be attentive to the class.
My only regret is that I didn't discover concert choir sooner. The professor and the people are amazing and it really feels like a safe space for all. When I first got the music for the semester, I felt way over my head, but we all worked together to make it happen. The performance was amazing.
I took three online classes this semester, so I think I have had a good time to compare. While online classes still have their setbacks, Professor Elliot by far has the most clear and and easy to understand online course. Plus, he actually responds to you usually within minutes if not hours. He communicates all the time with the class. Recommended.
Prof. Elliott is just a different kind of choir director. Once you "get" him, you are hooked. When you join M10, you're not only gaining friends from choir, but you are also gaining an advocate and mentor. He is the most dependable and caring teacher I've had. OH and he gets us to sound AMAZING as a choir.
Really enjoyed the course and Prof. Elliot. It covers a lot of material but he does a good job of pacing it out. The assignments were clear and for the most part really useful. What I appreciated most is his responsiveness.
The class is easy if you follow the directions. Super short chapter readings followed by a quiz every other week or so. No midterm or final. The concert report does take time and planning but it was actually fun to do. Very good professor and good online class overall. If you have questions he responds very quickly.
Excellent instructor and excellent online class. Everything is clear and if you set aside the time each week to spend online, its a straightforward class.
This was my first online class and I wasn't sure how to navigate around it and would overthink everything so I asked him for help and he was very rude about it. So I can say he hates answering questions. Made a bad impression on me. Otherwise, easy class.
I took this music ed class because its required for my pre-credential program. I thought it would be filled with tacky songs but it ended up being the most inspiring class I took out of all my ed courses. I can not recommend Professor Elliot more highly, he taught me so much. Hes also hilarious and so caring.
He is an AMAZING teacher. Very down to earth. He taught a class that was in its' first year and he really directed it well. He payed attention to what we needed and didn't need and was just so good at talking about what we ACTUALLY NEEDED TO KNOW!
One of the best college professors Ive ever had. I walked away from every class with something new and directly applicable to my future role as an educator. So many good things to say. You will not regret taking his class. And you get to play with boomwhackers lol
I wish we went into more detail on some topics but I understand when he said it's a "survey" course that covers a lot. He does have live online meetings which initially seemed inconvenient but were actually fun and useful. Prof. Elliott really goes out of his way to help students and it's very clear he cares. I really enjoyed him as a teacher.
Can you name another class in your college life where you sobbed at the last class just out of pure gratitude for a professor? I cannot speak more highly of him. My life is forever changed and for the better because of him. Best professor at MC by leaps and bounds.
I am going to miss this class and Elliott so much. Do not ever hesitate to take concert choir. I was so lost at MC and I found a family in this class.
One of the most straightforward and organized online classes I've taken. I was nervous about taking a 4-week course, but he sets up the class so that it's manageable. Lots of communication to keep us on track. Definitely worth taking with him for those needing a GE.
Honestly the best professor and best class I've taken at MC. Beyond that, it was one of the most useful classes I've taken as far as teacher preparation. He's organized, professional, and comes to every class 100% prepared. He models the teacher I hope to be. Just so so so good. I CANNOT believe how much I got out of a 1.5 unit class.
The man is a class act and excellent teacher/conductor. Even when choir had to go online due to COVID-19, he just made things work and created a space of safety and normalcy. I really commend him. M10 really feels like a safe space for truly anyone, and I credit the prof for that.
I have had many professors at MC and Elliott is one of the best. He teaches so well, he cares so much about his students, he actually listens to us and our opinions, and he is a fantastic mentor if you put in the effort. I have grown so much because of him and I'm grateful I had him as a prof for two years. I wish I recognized this sooner.
Having taken courses at CSUCI and MC, I can say he is truly an excellent professor. He made a Monday evening class the one thing I looked forward to most each week. He teaches so well, and its clear hes passionate about the material and the students. His lectures feel more like discussions amongst equals and they are so inspiring.
Excellent professor. Hes also super accessible outside of class to answer questions or even help with business plans and such. He also holds online meetings to go over stuff. One of my favorite instructors and online classes so far.
THE best online class I've ever taken! entire class is very clear and are able to work ahead and get things done early. you know exactly what to expect, and there are no surprises. very do-able. the class consists of an introduction post, 7 quizzes, and a 2-page concert report. If you need this class, take Professor Elliot. You won't regret it!
Absolutely amazing class and instructor. I had no idea what to expect when starting off this class and walked away with SO MUCH. Prof. Elliott is phenomenal, the class is so useful and fun, and I never dreaded going to class on a Monday night. What a concept to have a teacher, who truly knows how to teach, teaching future teachers.
Excellent online class and instructor. It's really straightforward and clear as to what we need to do to succeed in the course, and he communicates regularly to help us stay on track. He is also very responsive with calls, emails, and zoom which I appreciated a lot. Highly recommended if you need an area 3 GE.
This was a great course and he is very helpful, especially in such an accelerated class. There's no way he will let you not stay on track. I am at a university out of state and consider this the best online class I've taken. Only thing I'd say is that the quizzes can take awhile, but it's fair given the course is only 4 weeks. Props to him.
Its a 4week class so it did go by real quick and the readings are condensed. Despite that it was a very clear and easy to navigate online class. Prof. E was very encouraging, helpful, and responsive. Grading was very fast and he would respond to messages literally seconds later.
The guy is legit. RMP pulled thru on this one! Good summer class. Its a lot of work in a short amount of time but he keeps you on track. He will even call or email you if behind on stuff. Im Signing up for another class of his in the fall so thats saying somethin
Easy class, just take the weekly quizzes and get ahead on the concert report and you'll be okay. Emails back if you fall behind and give extra credit/fudge points. What more could you ask for? Easy A
Great class and professor. Very quick grader, he emails you often to stay on track, and he's responsive when you have questions. As someone who normally hates online classes, he made the class work really well. Tip: you definitely need the online book to do well.
In the process of his 8 week class and I highly recommend!! Easy-pass class. His exams are multiple choice, T/F and will have some answering questions but it's really easy. Most of his questions u can find with socratic and quizlet but don't switch tabs on the exams cuz he knows about quizlet so use ur phone. Not only that but he seems nice too. :)
The reviews for his M24 class lived up to the high expectations in every way. Professor Elliot is the best education professor I have ever had. Each class was filled with incredible learning and discussion. We ended our final class in tears. He is so wise, models the absolute best teaching, and cares so much about us. HIGHLY recommended.
Great prof! Set in 2 week modules that start with a video lecture, and end with a quiz and reflection. There are assignments in between. The live sessions (optional) were enjoyable. Overall, really well done with no guess work. He teaches to the text but also adds his own industry experience. He responded to my emails within minutes every time.
I really enjoyed Professor Elliott. Hes an excellent musician and educator and you can tell hes so passionate about what he does. Hes hilarious but also can hold really important and difficult conversations as well. I learned a lot, he changed the way I think of education (in good ways), and Im glad I took his class.
Amazing professor. I got so much out of this class! He provides great feedback on assignments, creates a safe space for us to discuss basically anything (there was laughing or tears every class), and he made my Wednesday nights something to look forward to during such a stressful semester. I wish he taught in the ed department!!
Great teacher, easy class, nice guy and willing to work with students. Highly recommend him. Would take again.
He really made lemonade out of lemons. I thought I would dread choir online but he worked so hard to make it a good experience. Im glad I got to take choir this semester and feel apart of a community.
Excellent, excellent, excellent hands down!!! I never expected this would be my favorite class and instructor.
I took this class online and he was just overall very understanding, he recommends buying the digital version of the book. This class has very few assignments at the beginning, but after that every other week you just take one quiz on what you've read in the book. He's a very nice easy going professor.
Honestly concert choir went better than I expected in every way even though it was online. He made the rehearsals fun, and I was still able to connect with friends and have a good time. Making the virtual choir videos took a lot of time, but he made it as painless as possible. I'd do it again, and Prof. Elliott is great
Excellent class and amazing professor. Loved the feedback on assignments, everything is so organized anc clear, and Prof Elliott is a model teacher. Best education class Ive taken yet!!
I learned more in his music education class about understanding how to teach and work with students than I have learned in every other education class I have taken. He is the most influential person I have ever gotten the honor to learn from and I wish I could take more education related classes from him. He was amazing.
He made online choir something more than horrible and for that he is amazing. Im sad this is how I end my time at MC but my favorite memories this term were concert choir online. He adapted to make it work, listened to us, cared for us, and gave us a sense of community during such a difficult time. Forever grateful.
Really solid Professor. I liked the way the online class was set up. Every week starts with a brief lecture video, then there are 1-2 assignments, a quiz, then a reflection. I learned a LOT and the assignments were actually fun. He has a lot of experience/knowledge to share and it was well delivered in the online format.
He's so easy and really nice. End of the class he gives you the boost you need to go to the next grade. Don't turn anything in late and you'll get an A!
It was so refreshing to take a class from a prof that clearly 1) knows the material and 2) has a love for teaching. Its not an easy A class but its also doable in a short summer term. Highly recommend.
He's definitely knowledgeable in his field, and although I only had a few meetings online with him, because the class was mainly online, he seems like a very caring and knowledgeable professor.
I felt misunderstood and not supported when I needed guidance for the report project. I was given an ultimatum instead. I did not understand the responses to my questions throughout the course. I did not feel ok asking for help anymore after I expressed how I was overwhelmed by the format and the response to that was not understanding my concerns.
This class was fully online and had no live meeting requirements. Its exactly what I wanted: clear information, straight to the point, regular communication, and accessible outside of class. I did all online this semester and he was the only instructor that responded quickly to emails and had online office hours every week. Great!
Such a good professor and class. It feels like being a part of a family. Dr. Elliott pushes us to be our best but does it in a way thats caring and encouraging. He is brilliant yet humble and you want to learn everything from him. He worked hard to keep us in person and safe this term and we had an amazing performance. Take him and take choir!
Give this guy a raise! After 3 semesters of entirely online classes, this one stands out as the best. Dr. Elliott is super responsive to emails, gives clear instructions and feedback, and is just super knowledgeable and helpful. I took a lot away from this class and would highly recommend him/the class!
Very straightforward, organized, and clear online class. He was fast responding to canvas messages. Towards the end of the term, I had some family matters to deal with and he was very caring and understanding. I'm in the PACE program and haven't been in school for a LONG time. I'd recommend him.
Honestly my favorite choir experience ever. I'm so glad I joined. Everyone is so welcoming, Dr. Elliott is hilarious but also pushes us to be our best, and we get to perform in the performing arts center. As a non music major, I felt just as welcomed as the music majors and made more friends here than I did on any of the four clubs I did at MC.
Absolutely love him, such a god. His sarcasm alone just makes my life worth living.
Honestly this class was perfect. I learned a ton and the class is organized so well for an online class with no live meetings. My favorite part is when he interviews former m07 students that are *thriving* in the industry. It shows us that it's possible to making a living in music. Questions were answered within minutes via email or canvas. 10/10.
Great professor and easy grader.
He's amazing, and definitely one of the best teachers out there. I finished his class in two weeks lol. There were mostly quizzes and the Concert report, which was fairly easy as well!! Take him, easy A.
Very chill teacher and class. Only homework is weekly listening journals that are really easy to do and he gives you full credit most of the time. It is also an interesting class.
