He is by far the best teacher I have ever had!! He is always willing to help!! He is very laid back and easy to talk to!! If you just pay attention and do all your work you will end up with a good grade!! Take this class with THIS TEACHER!!!
Brandon made this class interesting and fun to come to everyday. YOU ROCK BRANDON!!!
I absolutely loved brandon! Public speaking scared the crap out of me before this class but he made it enjoyable. He is a fun laid back teacher and you definately want to take a class with him
Brandon is AWESOME. Class is fun, I actually enjoyed going. Speeches are fun and it's not hard to get an A. One of my favorite classes at ASU
I love Brandon's class! He is such a great person all around. He wants to make class fun for everyone, and he teaches you a lot of useful material. He is very approachable and always willing to help. Take his class!!
Besides being totally hot he makes the class fun and interesting. I hate public speaking but his class ended up being my favorite one.
An amazing teacher and a very fun class! He keeps the class interesting and fun! If you need to take this class take it with him!
This guy takes the time to write reviews on him self here. In no way was this class great. He would give JFK a C in his class. He makes public speaking to be so difficult when it shouldn't be. Have fun in a class that is micromanaged to the T if you take him..
Really nice guy and funny. He loves what he teaches and you can really tell. He is a tough grader but if you ask him for help he will do whatever he can to help. Take his class. Tough but fun.
First Friday Salon. This class was very interesting, especially since it was an extremely informal class (hour lecture, two hours exploring, half hour discussion). Brandon's really cool and really made me rethink how spaces are narrated. Highly recommended for any class!
Very tough grader but he tells you what he is looking for so it is easy to do good. He loves teaching and makes it fun. Really chill cool guy, just dont disrespect him and dont be afraid to ask for help, his office hours were great!
If you follow the sample outlines he gives you will get an A. The reason why kids do bad is because they don't follow the outline and hand in crap. Most kids didn't even have a copy of their outline to give to him the day of speeches. The class is interesting and not hard as long as you follow directions. Kids make it harder than it is.
He is a wonderful teacher and really engages the classroom. I had him for a 7:30am class and we actually had high attendance. He definitely has his opinions and favoritism towards students, but you WILL learn something! My favorite class by far thanks to a discussion based format and readings that are actually interesting!
He is adorable, I want to put him in my pocket. He lets you know he's a tough grader, so no suprise there. Had his class super early but, didn't mind it at all! I've heard his public speaking class was hard but, Interculteral Com was def easy and interesting.
Such an adorable teacher! He is full of energy and life so he makes the class engaging and interesting. He is a hard teacher but he will tell you that the first day of class. I would recommend his class to anyone.
Like everyone has said, the guys cool. Opinionated, Intelligent and pretty short. Your not gonna get away with BSing and you need to follow his outlines. If I would've realized this from the beginning I'd have gotten an A. Other than that, I've never had a class where I've become more engaged in intellectual conversation.
At first i thought i wasnt going to be able to pass his class cause his grading was so hard but then i started going to his office hours and he really helped me. He made me such a better writer and he is very good at what he does.
Whoa, I had a love, hate relationship with this class. Overall I learned so much and really have Prof. Ferderer to thank. Like all of the other reviews, he grades very tough and it is hard to get an A, but really in the end, you will feel like you earned the grade you deserve. Very fair, funny and just a cool person!
While he has a spunky personality, he is a very tough grader and says more than he should. We are there to learn and tends to make comments about his relationship issues. He thinks he knows everything so just go with it. This is a do the work and put in the time course. Ask questions and if you don't understand him, then utilize his office hours.
He is my favorite teacher at ASU. You will love this class. Just follow his guidlines and do what he says and you will find that you will get an A.
I've has Brandon for over 2 years now. He is BY FAR the best professor I have ever had. You actually learn in this class and he cares about YOU as a person. Teacher of the decade. Take his COM classes, follow his guidelines, and learn from the best teacher @ ASU. BOOM BABY
Brandon made me want to attend class. He was so helpful and is the most amazing teacher i have ever had.
I took com 207 fall 12. Brandon is honestly one of the best professors I've ever had at this University. He is a self-proclaimed hard grader but he only does it for your own benefit. He truely wants his students to succeed. He always has office hours and encourages students to attend he is there for you!!! Great professor
Brandon is a phenomenal professor! While he is a pretty tough grader, he is always willing to take time to help his students individually. He is passionate about what he does and is also pretty hilarious, which made class worth going to. He doesn't take any b.s. though and won't screw around when it comes to getting work done!
Passionate instructor.. bit of a diva, but his heart is in the right place.. Though if agenda-pushing instructors aren't your bag, avoid his courses. It's communication inquiry man. not injustice in society. His exams are mind numbing and the writing assignments are tedious to say the least. Excellent communication, but his sass gets old.
honestly, one of the best professors I've had so far. He makes the class very interesting, & make what could be a boring subject into an exciting conversation with the class. The assignments are a little hard, but as long as you do the work, he is willing to help u out to succeed. Overall, I recommend him for his charming personality.
If you're looking for an easy "A," don't take his classes. If you're looking for more than a class, possibly a life changing experience, then you're in the right place. By far the best professor at ASU. Genuinely cares about his students. If you're struggling and come to him for help, he will take the time to ensure you understand the concept.
Brandon is a wonderful professor. This class was rocky for me at the beginning but he really worked with me to help me better understand the material. He has a strong passion for teaching and it comes though in his lectures. He provides strong feedback and responds to emails quickly. I would highly recommend taking this professor.
The only thing negative I can think about is that he focuses far more on the B.A. studies in Communication instead of the B.S. studies, when he should be focusing on both equally. Other than that, you definitely want him as your instructor!
Cool guy with great talent and passion! I like him, and I also want to enroll his class next semester if available!
Ferderer is a solid dude. He's a very talented performer and is passionate about what he teaches. The grades are based off performances and papers with an occasional quiz. Put thought and passion into your performances and make friends for good group performances. He's a tough grader but it's a cool class and definitely worth the effort.
AMAZING! Federer is def. one of the best teachers I have ever had. The classes that I took with him would have been far more challenging if it wasn't for him. He lays out what he expects, respects those who respect him. He will keep you interested and listening all class period. Lots of writing, but grades fairly. DOOOOOOOOO ITTTTTT!!
This teacher was fun, passionate, and always kept our class laughing. He is a strict grader but I pulled through with a 90 and definately will take him in the future
Let me put it this way: If you are looking for an easy A, I would not suggest having him as a professor. But if you want to actually get something out of your learning experience, then definitely take him. He gives amazing feedback on everything he grades for you and is very clear on his expectations. I'm taking him again for another class.
Brandon is by far the best professor I've had at ASU. He is clear on what he wants from course work, is willing to help anyone, and is very understanding. He is a realist and if the lectures go off topic because the class is having and intellectual conversation, he lets it continue and joins in. I have a 97% and we only have one assignment left.
All assignments are group projects. Super nice guy, always lets class out early if your work is done.
Wanted to give a higher score but it wasn't until after class ended that I saw his charmmercy so I feel I must warn others. HARD HARD grader. I'm typically almost 4.0 and honors student and I could not fulfill his standards. He is also a careless, slow grader, taking points away for things that are there. Never repliedwent on trips. FOCUS w 207.
I had Ferderer a few semesters back and he is a great teacher who was really able to keep the lectures interesting. Most of the homework assignments are towards the final literature review which is easy as long as you stay on top of the work. Test are easy too as long as you study. I would definitely take this professor again.
Brandon is a GREAT professor. He often engages the class in activities, you're never really just sitting there listening to a lecture. The class is really easy and Brandon makes it very enjoyable. For someone who is shy, I feel like I explored myself a lot more and opened up because of this class. I would have Brandon as my professor any day!
Amazing professor. I have had him for other classes as well and he really makes this class an enjoyable time. I would recommend this course to anyone. It is very eye-opening on your own life, and he really helps you to connect yourself to the content. You have to do your work, and put a lot of effort, but it is definitely worth it.
Great teacher, very easygoing. Don't goof off and pay attention when he gives his lectures - he's got a funny personality and will drop jokes to see if you're paying attention. Do your work, make sure to practice your speeches, and you will be fine. You're graded on how you improve over the semester relative to the beginning, not to your peers.
One of the best professors I've had at ASU. I'm planning on taking as many of his classes as possible. He's super exuberant and extremely easy to get along with. 194 was a blast! This class REQUIRES participation, so be ready to work, but it isn't super strenuous and he's great at communicating guidelines
This class isn't an easy A, but Ferderer is going to prepare you for 308, which is a class to weed out Comm. majors. He's really funny and helpful at his office hours. Take notes during class and get the textbook, it's really helpful for his exams
One of my favorite teachers ever!
Mr. Ferderer is a great person, yes and I really did like the class. BUT he took a couple trips to New York during the semester and as a student we missed lectures and office hours. He has a lot going on at all time and the class feels as though its not one of his main priorities though he is great at teaching it. SLOW GRADER. FUNNY. LOTS OF WORK.
Amazing teacher who cares about the success of his students. His class was challenging but he made it way easier than I could have imagined. There's a lot of work but it all prepares you for com 308. Even though attendance wasn't mandatory you won't do well in this class if you don't show up. I genuinely liked attending his class he makes it worth.
Brandon is simply amazing. The course itself was dull, but he was engaging and always entertaining. He is always honest and real. There is no pompous attitude from him like other instructors. Would take several times is possible. Never looked at the book
Ferderer seems like a great person, and he was funny during lectures and the tests were fine. Everything seemed pretty great... until I got my grades back? I couldn't figure out exactly what this guy wanted in my papers, but I've NEVER gotten grades that bad on papers before. He said we would come out more prepared but I'm just more confused.
I had a 98% in this class up until the final paper where he gave me a D. Long story short, don't take this teacher. A student should never be lead to believe they are prepared, and then proven drastically wrong.
I absolutely adore Brandon Ferderer! Not only is he a profound and eloquent speaker, he is truly passionate about what he teaches. His Communication and Consumerism course was exceptionally phenomenal, providing unique insight of the advertising world . He is beyond generous with extending due dates, and brings an effervescence to the classroom!
Amazing professor. The class is NOT an easy A, but Brandon is going to prepare you for 308.
Brandon Ferderer is hands-down the best professor I've had in my three years at ASU. If he could teach every COM class I take from here on out I would be a better person for it. This class is hard work but he is always available over email and during office hours. I respect this man for his intelligence, wit, and ability to relate to us students.
Brandon is one of the best professors Ive had. He gives incredible, detailed feedback & is ALWAYS willing to talk to u about your work via email, in class or during office hours. The most challenging part of this class was that the type of writing I had to do for a Lit Rev was brand new. I felt like I didnt know what I was doing, but I got an A-.
he's a great teacher and will help you a ton if you go to office hours, otherwise he's a super busy guy and will assume you're doing fine. this is a challenging class in general but he made it very doable and i got an easy A. just make sure to ask for help if you need it.
Brandon is amazing and I've probably learned more from him about societal issues today than in any of my other courses. He helps you understand who you are in relation to the world around you without imposing his own views. I loved every day of his class and truly appreciate having had him as an instructor. I hope nothing but the best for him
Brandon is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. He is so, so funny and I enjoyed going to class each time. The lit review is intense but you should get an A if you go to his office hours where he helps/corrects any work you show him! Absolutely loved his class, him as a person, and now I think I love communication theories? LOL
I'm not sure what everyone else sees in this professor but I find him to be quite atrocious. The work he assigns isn't difficult but trying to figure out what he wants is. I have yet to receive full credit for any assignment yet he doesn't care to explain what I did "wrong." If you're a straight-A student and want to remain so, avoid this professor
Truthfully, I have never done a rating on a professor but here I am. I have never disliked a professor before until now. Ferderer's grading is appalling. If you are looking for a professor who will help you succeed in their class this is NOT the class for you. When half of your students fail an assignment maybe its because they need clarity!
Stressing at 1am working on the insane coding sheet assignment. I'm agonizing over the upcoming exams, betting those will be full of BS also. I spend 2 hours on my discussions posts covering EVERYTHING he wants only to lose points. Way harder than my 400 lvl classes. I'll be lucky to get a C, considering I'm an A student. Save yourself, avoid him.
Put it this way, I have A's in EVERY class except this one. This is the absolute worst professor I have ever had! I am so terrified to turn in my assignments because I already know he is going to give me a failing score. I spend days on his assignments, trying to complete them the way that he advised and yet, I still get a failing grade.
AWFUL! You will suffer in this class! He needs to repent for what he's done. I hope the dept chair/school director. review his teaching/grading method. His objective is to not have his students succeed. This is absurd. A lower division class should not be taught in this manner! There is something wrong when even straight A students are failing!!!!!
Just finished this course yesterday. Let me warn you right now: DO NOT TAKE BRANDON FERDERER for this online course, YOU WILL REGRET IT! He will make COM207 way harder than it needs to be and he will nitpick every single thing that you do. Forget being an A student or a good writer this guy will ruin your life and your GPA! STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!
Honestly he gave me a C on my paper even though I passed all the other exams, quizzes, and discussions and therefore I got a C+ in the class which lowers my gap like come on dude
COM207 is kind of a wean-out class. The entire year is building up a literature review. So if you get off to a bad start it will be kind of hard to catch up. I dropped my first class due to this, but my second go around was great. You really have to work for it, but Ferderer is very helpful and gives great feedback. Just communicate with him.
I had to take the class a couple of years ago and bombed it. Brandon has turned this class around a complete 180. Please consider, this is thee hardest class you will take for the COM courses. Prof Ferderer has laid out clear expectations, and submits many emails, reminders, and videos to help you along the way. EMAIL him or his staff for help.
Brandon Ferderer is an awesome teacher who really knows what he is talking about and expertly applies class content to real-world issues and culture. The class work is difficult and there is a lot of it, but the teacher does his best to help his students succeed. He is always available outside of class and the tests aren't hard!
Professor Ferderer is one of the most exceptional professors ive ever had. I was terrified of this class initially, because it is very rigorous and intimidating, but Ferderer is amazing at applying the concepts in memorable ways. He is very fair and caring about the success of his students and all you could ask for in a professor for this course.
He facilitates the course and grades the discussion boards & papers, but the video lectures are taught by another Asian professor at ASU. He's a tough grader, and there's a group project that's the heaviest weight - 8-10pg. paper with 4 group members. Annoying to coordinate that. Exams are heavily based on textbook, but it is open book.
Hands down one of the best professors I have had at ASU. I enjoyed sitting in his lectures as they were always exciting and inviting. He gives back extensive & necessary feedback that none of my professors have given in the past. He brings up new ideas to students and challenges them to pick up on them, rightfully so! 10/10 great course & professor
Great Professor, Had lots of fun in a big class. He was able to make the class feel much smaller than it was.
Intercultural Communications is a good class to learn, but it's not going to be your favorite if you aren't interested in the topic. There is a group paper that is a considerable amount but the rest is very simple and easy. Not a hard class, not a favorite class, but a good one.
If you are looking to take COM 207, take it with Ferderer. He does a great job preparing the class for the lit review. The class requires a lot of work, but if you put effort into the assignments; youll do well. Ferderer responds quickly to emails, and always gives good feedback on homework. Im glad I took COM 207 with him. Great professor!
Very tough yet rewarding class. You are required to write discussions posts in scholarly format as well as apply APA. Good at giving you straight forward feedback!
About 5-6 discussions, 2 exams, 3 papers where one is a research paper. He is mainly grading your papers to see if you get the APA format perfect. So follow directions. That should be your main goal in this class. Ask him for help, he explains well and will help you with coming up ideas.
Horrible teacher!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! I am a A/B student and I do pretty well in all of my communications classes except from this class. He will grade your work, but will not give you any feedback on what you did wrong. I received 90% on both tests, but received 70% on my papers with absolutely NO feedback.
By far my favorite com professor. If you need to take COM207 you should definitely take him. He's funny, insightful, stimulating, and wants to help you succeed (as long as you meet him halfway). No professor has improved my writing skills as much as him, COM308 was a breeze because of his class.
Probably the chillest class I had freshman year haha. Show up and take notes and he won't throw curveballs at you on the tests.
I honestly learned a lot from this class and ways in which I could improve my writing. Dr. Ferderer gave really constructive comments on how to improve on writing and the way the class was setup was very convenient as well. There was only ever one assignment due each week which made it much more manageable.
I am shocked at the comments below, as this class was HORRIBLE. After taking several coms classes, I have never had an issue with any other professors. I am A/B student and my grade suffered in this class. I am extremely grade conscious and he would not respond to a single email or hardly give feedback. Save yourself, take a different professor.
Professor F Was unorganized, returned e-mails late, and did not give clear or helpful feedback! The TA never answered my e-mails and gave useless feedback on assignments.
I enjoyed Dr. Ferderer's COM 504 class. He provided clear direction & helpful feedback on the written assignments. There were 4 modules, each lasting about a week & 1/2. Dr. Ferderer invites students to seek more specific feedback on assignments. I struggled with the first paper, asked for additional feedback, and I got As on the rest of my papers.
Tough grader especially on the review of literature project. He would take off on APA and feel it wasn't his job to teach you what you did wrong. He would instruct you back to a YouTube video in the course module. In the syllabus it clearly stated if you questioned him on a grade he reserved the right to lower your score. Slow grader. Good w email.
Dr. F was a great professor overall. He is caring and wants you to come to him for help with assignments. This course is book heavy and will require a big paper at the end with small assignments leading up to it. Only thing to note is he takes a very long time to reply to emails (unusually long).
Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to. The amount of moving parts there are to writing the APA paper at the end of the class is insane. I sat down trying to figure out how to incorporate all of his requirements into the paper for DAYS before I even started drafting. His entire class is centered around video watching in the modules.
The professor makes it clear that he has another job besides teaching and is continuously late on greeting assignments in this course even with TA's. Both himself and the TA's are extremely hard graders and overall the professor is extremely hard to get ahold of because he prioritizes his other job or is traveling somewhere.
