Best teacher ever!!! Super easy if you pay attention in class. Make sure to do the first two essays out of the optional four (you need to complete only two), they are usually the easier ones out of four. There really isn't a text book for the class. You do need to purchase business articles from harvard business review and that is it.
The class is easy, you just have to sit for an hour or two a day for two days a week. An essay is due every week, but you can opt to not write 2 essays. He gives high grades even if you didn't write it too well. Essays are just two page double space 12-font. So it's relatively short.
Great professor! I learned a lot from this lass. Requires a lot of reading and writings, but it's worth it. He understands students' needs and very helpful. Class materials are not necessarily easy, but he wants to get us A's. Take this course with him. You'll love it!
Best teacher so far. He is very helpful and kind. All the materials are interesting and he makes you think out of the box, building up your knowledge on how to manage the company. Please take his class. you won't be disappointed.
I highly recommend Fleming. He has an eagerness that kept me interested throughout class. There are no quizzes or tests. I learned a lot and would take a course with him again.
great teacher, thinking different need for different students. very thoughtful. the readings are a little hard for people whose first language is not English, but overall is easy. take his class and you will have fun in your class.
Fleming was a good teacher. Gives great lectures that keep the class interested. No quizzes or finals. He does give a lot of essays but they are doable if you do the readings. Had a group project where you had to do an analysis of a company. No presentations! I'd recommend him
Pretty awesome fella. Doesn't go very harsh on gradings because the subjects covered are pretty vague in general. No textbooks neither (woohoo!) but there are online materials you have to purchase (about $60 in total). Very clear and concise during lectures. Has a -5 points per day policy, which is pretty awesome compared to most other professors
Fleming's class is generally low-key and relaxed. Homework consists of readings and reading questions. There are several 2-page essays you have to write. Class time consists of discussion of readings and time to work on course project. Course project is on a company and your group has to analyze it in several aspects. Take this class from Fleming.
The best instructor I've ever had! He gives us very interesting cases to read. Sometimes cases are long but they are like stories and you never get bored reading them. His class is not stressful at all and it helped me to understand the subject better.
Great Professor. I hope I get more like him during my years here.
Great teacher that offered tons of help for his students. I really enjoyed his class.
Brandon has a very unique teaching style and made the course very interesting. I felt empowered after leaving class each day. I enjoyed the fact that the class was paperless and i could download my annotated assignments on my iphone. I highly recommend him for any class.
Really energetic and excited about the students learning. super relaxed schedule to make your quarter less stressful with other classes.
He is one of the best teachers that I ever had. He grades fairly, but students have to put in the time and effort in order to get a good grade. The required readings are reasonable and useful content (applicable outside of school setting). His classes are engaging and will not bore you to sleep. Other college professors should learn from him.
He is a very enthusiastic instructor who leads students to think for themselves, rather than simply memorizing and regurgitating information. I would go out of my way to take more of his classes.
Great teacher, made classes interesting a related them to the business field in general.
Class information intestesting relevant to outside world
Brandon is a great teacher. Uses current and relevant business issues for readings and lectures. Very relaxing and chill style yet knows his stuff.
One of the best professors I have had. He is enthusiastic and engaging. He used cases that were relevant instead of a text book.
Best teacher for a capstone class... makes it so easy and he is always willing to help. Uses case studies instead of textbook. Really awesome class experience overall.
It's important to attend every class and reading articles before class to get involve into class discussions. Interesting and informative materials.
Take 480 with Brandon if possible. He really cares about his students learning and is reasonable in the amount of work assigned. Have assigned readings done before class and participate in the discussions to get the most out of the class. Final was a briefing book, which I found to be much more interesting than cramming. Liked the class overall.
There is no textbook in the class but you will still have plenty to read . This class forces you to think critically about the cases you go over. The professor's style of teaching allows you to apply your learned knowledge about business concepts onto the short responses and essays. The case based class is different, but a good experience.
Great Class. Professor Fleming does an awesome job of tying interesting cases & articles (no textbook)both into lectures and the required assignments. Highly recommended to take him for 480 when it's offered
Excellent teacher. Makes you think critically while engaging you in the topic at hand. Class is taught in a fashion that forces you to link other materials away from class and from previous class periods so that items learned are engrained in your work.
One of the most useful classes. No textbook required but the course is very organized and only focus on the important concepts that will be use. Definitely not information overload. A LOT of homework but he is not a hard grader. He makes you think and that helps to understand the stuffs much better and remember them longer. Attendance is almost 30%
I really enjoyed this class. There is no textbook and lectures are like discussions about readings. There are couple of essays. I would recommend this class.
Professor Fleming was easy-going and friendly. His method of using real life cases to teach us really helped us learn. Even though I was pretty quiet I really enjoyed Brandon's class discussion because it was interesting. I learned lot from this class and my writing skills have greatly improved. I highly recommend taking it with Professor Fleming.
Brandon's class was easy. I love how there is no textbook used, just cases. Although attendance is not required, I recommend you attend because it will make a difference. You should also speak in class because the points will get you to a 4.0, or if not, pretty close to a 3.5.
Fleming says on first day he's not there to trick you-- he actually means it. If you're like me, used to text-quiz-midterm-final, you gotta get in a different mindset. This class is what the biz world is- no jargon, powerpoints instead of essays, and a lot of short assignments. He's showing you what a boss wants- not what a teacher wants. Wonderful
Professor Fleming is a great professor! He really wants you to learn and makes sure it happens. If you show up, talk at least once a class, and do the assignments (which aren't very hard) then there is no reason why you shouldn't get at least a 3.5 in his class. If you take can any professor for the 480 capstone, take him!
Just an awesome class. Brandon Fleming should be the only instructor teaching BBUS 480 at UWB period.
I loved this class. I have never been interested in Business Courses, until this Global class with Brandon!! I agree, he should be the only instructor on this course. I loved coming to his class. There is a lot of writing, but you feel well prepared and the group project was well organized. IF you cant show up you can make up some points.
he is extremely great. easy grader but there is a lot of material to cover in a short period of time. but this is the professor you want to take for 480.
Brandon was a great professor. His clarity was great, he teaches using case studies rather than a textbook which I found to be a more effective way of learning. The only complaint if I had to note one was the delay in grading toward the end of the course, this in fairness was due to illness and a significant load (3 full classes)
Expect to work hard in this class and you'll end up with an equally good grade! Great teacher. You will gain a lot of real-world knowledge from this class. Brandon is really nice and fair. There are plenty of required readings, but they are not difficult. The best teacher for BBUS480 at UWB!
The work you had to do was a lot but in the end the grade turns out to be great! His not a hard grader at all. I was so busy that quarter but I got 3.8 in the end! can you believe capstone course can have such high grade?
Loved the case study approach (HBS Cases). Facilitates class discussion through insightful examples and expertise in topic. Good mix of academia and real world. Highly recommended.
He is a very enthusiastic and hard working professor. Understands how busy MBA students are and is willing to work with them. Structure of group project made it easy to complete as a team.
very helpful , will work with you if you have any problems. great teacher good friend.
Excellent teacher. He is clear, he understands his material very well. He interacts with students easily and I learned a lot from him. There is a lot of material to read, but very very interesting information for anyone to know, not harsh grader at all. I guess he is one of the best teachers at UWB. DON’T Miss his class.
Fleming is the best Business professor I've had at UW Bothell. There is a good amount of essays required for the class but the professor really sets you up for success on the essays during his lectures. Overall, I learned a lot from this class and you won't regret taking it. Attend class and do the work and you'll be good.
Great teacher, who I think should just start his own business. Vast knowledge, we joked he was Wikipedia. Great teaching style which makes you stretch your thinking. I would recommend him to anyone who has to take 480.
Highly recommend taking his class. I enjoy his teaching method, always uses case-studies instead of textbooks and encourages active class participation that expands your thinking. You will learn so much from his class. Definitely, my favorite Professor at UWB so far.
The best class!! Highly recommended.
Easy grader & easy class. But a lot of assignments. You need to prepare for it.
Out of all the professors I've had at UWB, Brandon was the best! His teaching method is great. He lectures and and stimulates the class by having the class discuss the topic. Attendance is graded so don't skip. Lots of reading and writing required but he's an easy grader. One team assignment. No exams or presentations.Learned a lot from him!
Professor Brandon is very approachable and kind. The materials presented are very interesting and he will make you think out of the box.
Best professor in UWB I've ever taken. Will explain anything no matter how many times you ask. Super helpful and understanding. Makes you think outside the box within the real world. The only class I actually learned something helpful.
So far the best CSS teacher I had!! The lectures are clear, fun, there is a lot of activities, and he encourages students participation. He answers all students questions until they fully understand the material. There's a lot readings attendance in class counts toward the grade, don't miss! He has a lot of real world experience to share. AWESOME
Very nice guy who wants to see his students succeed. He is highly knowledgable about business and makes class engaging. I was in 3 of his classes at the ELC and definitely enjoyed them!
Fleming is by and large pretty great, I'd like to take him again. Being in class is pretty important since he goes over the material in every essay and homework assignment, so that's really helpful. Not too hard if you're willing to put the work in and pay attention to his feedback, which is usually pretty helpful. Slow grader though. Overall good.
A lot of readings of cases and short answers for each and required to do 3 out of 4 essays. He assigns group work all the time and a group project that's done throughout the quarter. There's a lot of work to do, but it is not difficult just time consuming. He tries to make his lectures exciting and get the class to participate in discussions.
Great teacher. He practices what he teaches and every lecture is interesting and relevant. Group projects were awesome in this class because he puts group together based on personality types. He is real, approachable, helpful, and fair. The subject matter is challenging for different people at different times and in a fun, educational way.
Brandon is a great teacher and really cares about his students. He clearly is into teaching for the right reasons and can really give you good feedback and career help if you take the time to meet with him.
Such a great teacher, I learned so much from this class. He makes the class really interesting, yes there is a lot of reading but his grading is fair. Definitely take him!
For BBUS 470 & 480, manage your schedule to get him for both, it will save you so much time and effort for the class. You spend the quarter showing up to class (mostly in your pre-determined groups), participating in his stimulating lecture, sometimes going to the board, and writing essays. Show interest in him and he respects you. Best Prof around
I really enjoed his class. A very talented teacher. However, get ready to read long Harvard School cases and every week you have to produce a 2 page essay. But if you are getting behind it is better to let him know ahead of time. I wish UW Bothell had more professors like him.
Be ready to participate in his lectures, attendance is very important since he keeps track every class period and is accounted for your participation grade. Otherwise, very inspirational professor to have experienced. His teaching style is very engaging to where you will enjoy his lectures.
I would say Brandon is definitely my favorite teacher in UWB. He is knowledgeable and he teaches students how to think and analyse in a business way. He is a lenient grader. If you show up in every his class and complete all assignments, you'll get a good grade.
Brandon used case studies to teach management. It worked for me because I associated the concepts with a vivid scenario of some kind. Sometimes he will push on the class a bit, but then he'll give a bit too. I would take him again.
Think he is under pressure to make his class harder. Arbitrary grading scales on company project. Very little patience to let you finish talking, would often cut people off. Arbitrary grading was received towards end of quarter, hard to change grades.
After hearing all the great things about Brandon, I was surprised how much I disliked this class. He was not the easy grader everyone had told me about (and I'm usually a 4.0 student). His smug personality also rubbed me the wrong way. He would assign things without thoroughly explaining the concepts and then grade harshly. He's not for everyone.
Usually when U use canvas, a description of what U are supposed to do is on each assignment. In this cls, you'll see a blank page with a due date. You hunt through the syllabus, the schedule, and then the lecture slides trying to find what's due. You find it in a vaguely named lecture file. Then it tells you what to read, but not where to find it..
Yes he doesn't always say where the readings are, but everyone should know where they will be. Either the Harvard site or on canvas, its not that difficult. If you come to class he discusses everything you need to know and answers any and all questions. Awesome professor!
Best instructor EVER! Clear on his grading criteria. Explain his lectures clearly and very detailed. You will learn a lot from his class. This is the 3rd class I took from Professor Fleming. Expect for homework, at least 2week.
It seems I get to end my college career with one of the best teachers. Brandon is truly a treat! Lectures are fun and engaging, and you actually learn A LOT. No text-book, or test, but expect to readwrite a bit. No attendance required but grade will take a hit if you're not there. I wouldn't consider this an easy A, but it's well worth your time.
If you like case studies and short papers, take him. Make sure you show up in every class. Best instructor in uwb.
Brandon is wonderful and very helpful. Lectures are very clear and organized, I loved the class! Very patient and helpful when I have questions. Best professor in UWB!
One of the best professor's I ever had. He also teaches BBUS480. Try to avoid Chatterjee! Brandon is much more fun and interesting, you learn a lot more in his class. I wish he taught more classes. There was not textbook, just readings. We wrote a lot of essays but they were short. You also have to participate in class.
Dont miss his class
Brandon is the best professor at UW-B, enjoy him UW-T he is truly amazing. He uses case studies instead of textbook so you learn using real world examples. You must go to class and participate but he makes that easy. His lectures are interesting and engaging. Lots of papers but they are short and easy to write!
Brandon is steady. Will push at times, but you can push back a little too - be engaged and the progress will come. Cases include risk-capital firms, and not just "widget" firms, so the spectrum is covered. Also, Brandon seems to connect with a wide variety of student types which is nice. The video essays are a nice chance to practice. Excellent!
Down to earth guy with a passion for understanding business, and cares about his students.
WORST EXPERIENCE. It was text heavy with a requirement to read 200+ pages per week. Course load was equivalent to a masters class rather than an undergrad. Were required to do "video" essays as a precursor to "video job interviews" - been in the working world 6+ years and never had a video interview. Professor continually touted himself. RUN!!
Brandon is passionate and has a very good understanding of business. You will learn a lot, but if you are taking the capstone course with him, know this: -He makes you write a lot (5 essays total). -He is the harshest grader I've ever had. -Unlike most classes, you HAVE to do his readings. The reading concepts stay relevant for the entire course.
Stay up to date with what's happening in the world. Professor knows a lot about various companies and industries, along with his speciality - startups. Strike up conversation(s) about career interests and you'll get some insightful advice.
Brandon Fleming is an awesome professor! I highly recommend him. His lectures are amazing. He gives great feedback and he responds to emails in a very timely manner. Attendance is necessary for his class as you need to know what is going on and what is coming up. If you don't understand something, talk to him or send him an email. He is amazing!
Readings and case studies were tied in very well with the concepts and methodologies that were taught. Professor Fleming made excellent use of class time and provided detailed feedback before grading that ultimately produced better work and better learning. Instruction effort was above and beyond!
Dr. Fleming was a great professor. He was personable, understanding, and enthusiastic about what he was teaching. He published the syllabus far in advance of the class beginning and provided timely feedback throughout the quarter. It was refreshing to have a professor as invested as he was at this point in the MBA program.
Best professor to take your capstones with. Very considerate about his students and has great engaging lectures! Take him for both 470 & 480 if you can.
Although a tough grader, I have really learned a ton in professor Fleming's class so far. He is very knowledgeable about the class materials. Usually I tend to resent professors who grade tough, but it is hard to with this professor, because I am getting such a great value out of the class. It only motivates me to do better! Highly recommend
Each lecture will be about a different case, very detailed analysis. He very care about students' grades. If you study very hard, you will get a good grade. I have to say, there are a lot of homework, case study & paper. But he is really a very good teacher, very responsible. Thank you, Professor. I know you can see it. Happy New year.
Prof Fleming was by far the best business professor I have ever! His lectures were a perfect balance of group work and engaging in discussions on various cases and sometimes current event topics. I find the whole group project process to be perfectly balanced with opportunities to learn. A great take on learning global business and worth attending!
Brandon Fleming is an very excellent professor if you want to learn business concept. He is really teaching something.
3x the homework compare to other courses (Essays, weekly questions, video answers) and along all of that you'll have to work on your presentation and submit drafts weekly. For weekly essays, get ready to redo 2-3 times as his instructions does NOT state what he wants. Once you seemingly satisfy all the requirements, he'll give you 80% only.
I had Professor Fleming for both 460 and 470. Great lectures that are recorded which helps while writing papers and other assignments. He grades pretty tough, but it's only to better you which helps out in other classes as well. Enjoyed both classes. Received a hard fought 4.0 in 460 and a B+ for my capstone course.
I really enjoyed my time in class with Professor Fleming. He seems like a very intelligent person and had amazing lectures. He is truly passionate about business and it was very refreshing to have a professor like him. I had a very busy summer and he was kind enough to work with me on making sure all of my assignments were done. He genuinely cares.
Love Brandon. Please register if you have a chance.
Professor doesn't know what he's talking about, spends too much time talking about himself/his previous ventures instead of actual material. Lectures are mandatory so you have to show up and hear him yap about whatever he wants. He isn't clear about directions and complains for small mistakes you make that the rubric didn't mention. Don't take him!
Decent teacher, take the class if you need to. You learn a lot, and it's worth it for that. Homework is too much and a lot of reading, most people in my group said they used ChatGPT to write the essays, so they're definitely not helping students learning.
He takes off points for things not in the rubric. He took off points for my final product pitch cuz it was not 3 mins long , though the directions said it has to be "max 3 mins", which literally 3 mins OR LESS. Brandon if you're reading this, please fix your grading and be fair when your directions contradict the complaints you have when scoring.
group project is tough but the professor is helpful and nice. Most students taking 470 and 480 right before their graduations, and he did not give us hard times. Farewell, UW, Fleming is a great professor.
I have taken Prof Fleming's class' for multiple courses. He is amazing although the work can be a lot at times his lectures are interactive he is kind and gives real world experience. His grading is great for learning it is easy to do well in this class as long as you show up and keep up and do your best! Best professor at UWB I have had.
He assigns a lot of reading and writing. Small assignments are graded nicely, but he takes away points on essays/projects for almost no reason. Very nice professor, but lectures are boring and he's impossible to reach outside of class.
