Good proffesor, very interested in his teachings, the testing was harder than you would expect, especially the first midterm. do not underestimate
Lecture attendance 45% final exam 10% of the grade, quizz 45% easy A
Loved his class. He makes a difficult subject easier for what seemed like a lot of us in class. He is very thorough in his lecture. Lab is more practice. Do the homework and practice problems. Test are straightforward but some questions are tricky. They key to this class is speed. The math isn't hard but finishing the test is. Practice!
Great professor, would take a class from him again. Makes it clear what he expects for his midterms. Makes a dull class a bit more interesting.
He is a good professor because he makes the material easy to understand. His expectations of you as a student is straight forward. his exams are straight forward as well, you either know it or you don't. The only reason you may feel that you don't have enough time to finish the exam is because you don't know the material well enough or overthinking
Grade was made up of your two midterms and final. The exams were not cumulative and all the questions were taken directly from lecture so as long as you showed up to lecture you had all the information you needed.
He's a fun teacher with a great attitude and wants his students to pass. All tests are on the lecture notes in class, has fill in the blank notes as well. Does offer one extra credit assignment where you have to know what a number of scientists are known for. MAKE SURE YOU MEMORIZE ALL OF THEM.
Great professor! Extra credit quiz at the end of the quarter. Two midterms and one final (not cumulative), if you study and memorize the notes you will do well!
Reads mainly off PowerPoints and the lecture can be difficult to understand since so much information is said all at once. Personally wouldn't recommend. Didn't like the style of teaching. Felt like he could have tried explaining a better way for students to understand.
I really love his teaching method; he is very detail oriented and wants to make sure you understand everything. He gives real life examples to make the material more relatable. There is no homework and study guides are provided for the exams. You should go to every class since he bases his exams off lecture material. He is a super nice guy!!
Super helpful and friendly professor, but his tests are not easy. Study guides were way easier than the tests. No homework, but you need to show up to all of the classes to get the notes. Only 3 tests, but they are no joke.
Pretty nice guy, straightforward lectures, no homework & one extra credit opportunity. I love how he uses real life examples to explain the material, it makes it easy to understand! The grade is based off 3 exams, 3 quizzes, and I clicker points! Final was non-cumulative
This class was fairly easy, you just had to attend class to get the notes, and clicker questions. The exams were all easy, just study the notes. Final was noncumulative. There was also an extra credit opportunity after the final, its a quiz about known biologists and their accomplishments. There's also no homework/masteringbio!
Lectures are a lot to handle. He talks very quickly and it's sometimes hard to catch up. Study study study!!! His tests looks easy, but take your time because his wording is different.
Highly recommend taking his class for any class you can. If you study the notes you will get a good grade on the test. He is funny and entertaining and will help as much as you need during office hours.
after 5 years of college, i am graduating. King was the single most gifted teacher i had. He was able to fit in 2 courses worth of material into 1 course without it being excessive. I learned more in his class than any other class, and his tests were always perfectly fair - nothing on them he didnt go over. Very organized instruction too
Personally, i did not like his style of teaching. Class is out of 450 points which is made up of tests and quizzes. His test questions are too detailed and possible answers are all very similar so you have to know everything he covers in great detail. he likes to ask questions that are worded different than his slides.
Lectures are all based on slides that are posted online but he has 10 attendance quizzes that help your grade a lot. Homework is easy, mainly a one page opinion paper and blackboard quizzes. 2 midterms and one final noncumulative but hold a lot of info and small details. He talks for a long time and we didn't get through all the material.
Bio3250(ecology) On my part I didn't go into the class with the expectation of enjoying it. That being said he loves giving irritating and ambiguous questions on multiple choice tests so you can't just spit out information, doesn't give real extra credit (gives you more possible points), and has a smug look on his face that makes me angry.
King is a great professor, all of his tests are based on lecture so attendance is mandatory and you dont need to buy the book. His exams are multiple choice and matching so fairly straightforward though he does throw in trick questions to make sure you actually know the material and didnt just memorize everything. Make sure you know EVERY slide.
G-R-E-A-T instructor!! Highly recommend. He grades based on online exams, online quizzes, and then in-lecture exams (PROS: based on lots of points). Online exams and quizzes are a breeze and the in-lecture exams are literally everything down on his powerpoints. If info not mentioned in powerpoints then don't worry about it on being on the exam.
He is a great professor, organized, and on schedule. If you are good at taking notes in class and give yourself a good amount of time to study for exams, you'll do great! Exams strictly through lectures and quizzes are taken online. If you don' understand something, he is very easy to talk to and will help you with any questions you migtt have.
He really knows his stuff and he gets all of the points across really well. He explains things in a way that are really easy to follow. No matter how complex the subject matter is.
King was quite a good bio prof. He was clear with what had to be studied and what was going to be on tests and exams. The amount of attendance quizes and take home quizes made it easy to get your grade up in that class. As long as you show up and study the slides then you should do good. He's also a genuine and funny guy so you can't go wrong.
Grade based on 6 quizzes (15pts each, 10?s), 3 exams (100pts each), 3 calculation exercises (10pts each), 2 scientific paper quizzes (10pts & 20pts, open notes). PPs are study guide, book NOT used. Optional field trip worth 50pts if you do all of it, I got an A w/o doing that. Great teacher, gets grades up same day (even w/ the free-response).
Fantastic professor for my first year at cpp. He genuinely knows what he is teaching and when a question was asked he immediately knew the answer. Very very very passionate. Such a fast grader we would get our grades the day an exam or assignment was turned in. Attendance imo is mandatory due to so much info in the powerpoints. He does pop quizzes!
Professor King is really good at his job, you can see he loves teaching and he cares about his students. The exams reflect what was taught in lecture. There are no extra credit opportunities but if you study you should be fine! I took eco with him and passed with a B+
He's a really good professor and knows how to explain things really well that I was able to ace the topics I sucked at back in high school. All of his tests are based on his powerpoints so you don't need the textbook. He also uses clicker questions as participation points.
Professor King is a smart guy, but his lectures were honestly a little boring. You just copy from a plain powerpoint, but he definitely knows what he's talking about. Tests were like the notes.
Professor King is an awesome guy, his lectures are great and engaging. For online classes, there are quizzes after each section, a midterm and final. Otherwise no homework! He always makes sure to go over and review hard concepts with the class.
Difficult, but good teacher. Make sure to look over slides and lecture videos posted again.
Hes a sweet passionate guy. However, this is by far the most challenging intro class Ive ever taken. There will be multiple quizzes (that is your homework) and the quizzes are quite challenging. Prepare at least a week to study for his quizzes. If you dont study, you will not pass. I would recommend watching YouTube videos. Goodluck.
The lectures for this class were pretty boring, but had a lot of info. You can tell that he enjoys talking about Bio and assignments were really simple. You don't even need to show up, as he posts his power points online. Just take notes on a word doc and control F everything. You'll get an A.
Professor King is amazing! His lectures are very detailed, and if you want to get a good grade in this class, make sure to watch the recorded lectures, and review the lectures before taking the quiz. His quizzes are a bit challenging, but they are lectures based! At the end, there is an extra credit opportunity which can give you around up to 10%!
He never responded to a single email throughout the entire semester. Hes not understanding at all when it comes to things like the pandemic and his tests are way too detailed.
This class was pure quizzes, the final, and an extra credit test at the end of the semester. You do not need to attend lectures since posts them online but beware that they are lengthy and cover a lot. The quizzes are quite difficult so make sure to study. The extra credit test comes in handy, so make sure to study for that.
His lectures are very long but you can tell that he genuinely cares about his students and about the subject. There are 5 question quizzes and 10 question quizzes after every few lectures but they aren't hard. He records the lectures and posts them after so you don't have to attend every lecture. I would recommend him since he is good for a GE.
Professor King is very knowledgeable of the subject he teaches and clearly cares about his students.
Brandon King handled the online school situation really well. As long as you showed up for lectures or watched the recorded ones and reviewed before each quiz it is an easy A. Lectures can be long sometimes but other than that it is great.
I only showed up to the first week of class and still got an A, but when I was there he was a really good lecturer. I recommend this class.
Lectures are very long and sometimes tedious but he really makes sure that every student understands the content. There is a quiz after each chapter is completed and they're pretty short and easy. No required readings. Attendance not even necessary to take quizzes as long as you look at the posted presentations.
An amazing lecturer. You just have to pay attention. One con of this class is that the quizzes CAN be tough, but they are short (starting at 10 questions). They are accumulative as they go, so they get harder throughout the semester. (additional one question to the quiz per lecture). However, there is no hw and its a pretty simple class
No homework in this class. Very quiz and lecture heavy. But he is very investing and the topics covered is interesting. The quizzes makeup your entire grade but it is straight from the notes. if you don't pay attention or study the notes you are not going to do well. Great Guy and give an extra credit quiz at the end.
Professor King's class is okay. His lectures are lengthy and honestly, sort of boring. Grades are based on 13 quizzes from the lectures and 3 writing assignments.
Theres 13 quizzes and 3 writing assignments that go into your grades. And the lectures are lengthy as well
Lectures can be boring but its interesting to learn. Very simple class, no hw just quizzes and writing assignments(due to grad student doing research). Quizzes based off lecture slides. Easy if u are able to remember and understand everything from lecture. This class was basically stress free compared to my other classes. Not difficult, take him!
Professor King is knowledgeable about ecology & biology in general. From his lectures, you can tell he loves what he's teaching. Class consists of quizzes, calculation exercises, and a scientific paper. Easy class, but our class got everything thrown at us in the end since we fell a behind. I still found the class easy though.
oversimplified lectures so it's easy to get distracted and not pay attention anymore. He gave us a very chill semester but in the last 3 weeks he gave us 5 quizzes (course is out of 7) 3 calculation exercises (course out of 3) and a scientific paper report to do which was EXTREMELY overwhelming because he shoved everything into the last 3 weeks
Amazing professor. Gives more than enough time for assignments and quizzes. Just pay attention to the lecture, review the slides, and you'll do fine.
King is great, he doesn't make you attend class, and posts announcements with due dates, and posts completed notes as well as recorded lectures. Grades are almost instant, and the assigned math work isn't hard, just make sure if you do have trouble ask him and rewatch the lectures/reread the notes.
L professor. bro just wants to trick you on his tests and makes an easy question in the hardest possible. wording. dont take this guy take the other options. at all costs. needs some more extra credit cause if u mess up his tests its impossible to raise ur grade with those weak little canvas quizzes.
Professor King is great. I've had him for BIO 1210 lecture and BIO 3250 lecture, and I have no complaints. He gives extra credit opportunities and his lectures are easy to follow. Attendance isn't required, he usually doesn't give homework (just tests or exams). pay attention in class and you'll do just fine.
Simple class, show up, and take great notes which he provides outlines for. He is very nice and passionate about biology.
Attendance not recorded, but highly advised to fill out lecture notes. Gave weekly opportunities for EC relating to biostats. Multiple short midterms & no cumulative final. Entirely lecture dependent.
He's really nice, but his exams are confusing. He words them very weird, and unless you memorized every single word on his slides, don't expect a perfect score. Otherwise, his class is very straightforwards. He offers extra credit but it honestly does nothing; class is mostly dependent on exams.
Professor King was absolutely amazing. He is clearly very passionate about teaching and biology, and gives you all the information you need to succeed in his class. His tests are from information directly from the PowerPoints, so memorization is key for his exams.
he is such a kind and understanding professor! a lot of reading but his slides are very informative. The scientific paper seemed like a lot but it is very doable. Allows group quizzes which made life easier during the special circumstance I was experiencing.
Professor King is a great!! He is passionate about what he teaches and it shows. His lectures and exams highly reflect each other. Just pay attention in class, study the notes well, and you will do fine. Also, make sure to do the weekly 2 point extra credit; doesn't seem like much but it adds up and will help your grade. Definitely recommend!!
Focus on tests. There is extra credit available at the end, since some of the exams are difficult to remember everything. You only need to study the notes he gives you and fill in the blanks during lectures. Study your phylogenetic trees in the notes. 1220 is a broad subject, but he made it so I was able to remember the content during exams.
Took this class in FALL 2021. He is a kind and understanding professor! Definitely reach out if you have special circumstances/need help in class. A lot of reading, quizzes, and a scientific paper. I worked hard and earned an A! My newborn daughter was just a few weeks old when I completed his class! So you can do it!
Class consists of just showing up, listening to the lecture for an hour, and then leaving with the occasional attendance/pop quiz and writeup thrown in. Never studied for anything but the final and got an A. As long as you show up to class, you'll be fine.
The material is clear to understand and connects to what was being tested, and provides extra credit opportunities. The course consists of about 6 tests each test is noncumulative, making it easier by having to study less material. He is also accessible outside of class and takes his time to explain the material.
Material is fairly dense, but Professor King makes sure to explain it very well. Quizlet is your friend when it comes to studying for the exams. There are a few extra credit opportunities given, but those don't do much to your overall grade. Make sure to just study a week before the exam rather than last minute, if you really want to do well.
Attendance not mandatory, only consists of exams, and quizzes. Overall, if you studied the class is not too bad, but study thoroughly and understand fundamentally (is very precise). Exams not accumulative, but content heavy.
he goes through the slides really slowly, talks a lot, never lets you out early,
Classes are early, for the most part, starting from 8:00 am - 8:50 am. Attendance is not mandatory, but I recommend you go because it's basically fill-in-the-blank note-taking. His exams are 50 Q and mostly memorization. The only thing I did not like was that he doesn't pass back exams, you must go during office hours to receive it.
Good professor, lectures are really useful. Tests are easy if you take notes and study, but some questions will throw you for a loop. Easy to pass if you want a C, work is required for a higher grade.
Best professor I have had so far.
He's like a robot when he's lecturing. Lectures are paced well, however, he rarely answers questions in class. He has an ego and fact-checks everything so it feels embarrassing to ask questions during lectures. He's behind on lectures compared to lab. Not much homework but you have to memorize A LOT for exams. Mnemonic devices are your friend.
Amazing professor! His lectures are very organized, thorough, and interesting. He's the kind of professor that leaves you wanting to learn more when class ends. Grades are based on in-class and online exams, quizzes, assignments, and a little extra credit. Gives you plenty of time to complete them. STUDY for in-class exams!!! Highly recommend!
this professor is super organized and class is easy to follow, also accesible outside of class and easy going
6 total tests, had 3 tests in the last week of class, one assignment and one quiz per module. Lectures are very heavy and monotonous. Rushed through material, had us do two entire modules online with lecture videos. Do not recommend taking compared to other bio professors.
He is a nice teacher. He makes you believe a certain material will be on the exams, but instead puts material that he doesn't tell us to study for.
Honestly not bad at all I would just say definitely STUDY like all of his slides in his notes because they are exactly like his exams. I usually studied a week in advance. Very few "homeworks" and were due a week from when they were assigned. Doesn't really have a "final" he just has 5 exams in total and no cumulative exam unless you miss an exam.
such a cool guy. very lecture heavy but the lectures and exams are 1:1. tests and quizzess aren't that hard if you pay attention
I took him for BIO 1210&1220. He just goes over the powerpoints he makes the entire class, which has fill-in-the-blanks that he gives the answers to in class. All exams and quizzes are mc, and quizzes are all online. No hw, and there are extra cred opportunities. Class is just based on memorization and studying. If you want a chill class take him.
His lectures were very inspirational and not monotonous at all. I've never found myself falling asleep during his lectures even if it was a 7:00 AM class. If you want a decent grade on the exams, study his lecture slides. But if you aim for an A or A+, don't skip class!
Took him for both BIO1210 and BIO1220. makes lectures (fill in the blank) actually entertaining and organized. Tests are not cumulative, offers extra credit at the end as well as chances to make up missed assignments with end of the semester assignments. Memorizing and discord and actually showing up to class is your bestie. Truly a king.
Not only has this course caused me an immense amount of anxiety, it sparked an onset of mental health disorders.Professor has no regard to my mental health nor how it affects my ability to succeed. He prayed on my downfall I would never recommend this professor to anyone who has any slightest but if humanity and justification in the academic system.
i got the highest grade i've ever gotten in college in this bio class, even if it was just a GE, but this prof is AMAZING. the exams are all open note, except for the final, which was cumulative, but very very easy, as long as you paid attention during the semester. he offers extra credit at the end. i loved this class overall
BIO1210 with Prof. King was okay. He has lectures that he goes over in class that fill in the blanks of lecture he offers on canvas. If you dont attend class, you will fall behind. He does offer a few extra credit opportunities, I suggest working on them at the start of the semester. exams can be tricky, wording will throw you off.
Things about class: 6 exams total, final is 2 exams in one, + op to retake exam: 1 pop quiz, 3 calculation exercises, 1 literature review paper, 1 scientific paper quiz, and 15 ec ops(must do). Lecture notes are fill-in-the-blank and "whiteboard" calculations. (1220 and 3250).7.5/10
Very passionate about what he is teaching, goes into great details on difficult learning topics, makes himself available to explain topics further in office hours. Tests can be difficult if they are not studied far enough in advance, Quizlet will be your best friend. Study for the extra credit exam, helps a lot!
Took him for BIO 1210 (Fall 2023) and 1220 (Spring 2023). Nice guy but you need to study a lot. Its easy to pass if you're aiming for a C but if you want higher, better work for it.
Honestly the worst class I have ever taken. If you miss an exam for whatever reason during the semester you have to take it on the day of finals with 2 other exams on top of that. Good luck trying to cram all 3 in! Crazy how the bio department allows him to do that. He also is extremely monotone when talking! Prayers for you in his class!
One of the best professor I ever taken for spring 2023, He really is chill and hilarious he's always there if you need help. I will say be prepare for pop quizzes sometimes he will announce it before taking the quiz and you get to use notes for it but you have to do it quickly before he moves onto the next question. Overall, amazing professor!!!
Worst class I've ever taken in all my years. If you work and have other classes besides this one. I don't recommend. He does huge exams like every 3 weeks instead of weekly exams covering little bit of course work. While learning another lesson. It shouldn't be be this heavy loaded for a GE required course especially if it's not part of your major.
I loved his class & it was easy to learn by the way he explained it. Has premade fill in the blank notes. However he does not post the completed notes so you would have to get them from him in person or someone else. 4 exams each on 2 and a half lecture powerpoints. Class is definitely doable and interesting if you put in the time to study .
If you don't have a job and are really good at taking exams, take his class. If not then I do not recommend. He very knowledgeable however, his exams were tough, because it not as direct. So don't be just studying term by term you need to understand the whole concept because his exams are based on scenarios. Just know you will need to study hard.
Super great teacher, explained notes very well and wanted us to learn. He provides you with all the material you need in order to do very well. Fill in notes which i love, all of the assignments are light work, he's pretty silly and funny. Would def take another class with him he's cool.
Great professor. Terrible exam structure and a crazy amount of slides that need to be memorized. Class consists of 6 lecture exams, 1 quiz, 1 scientific paper write-up, and 3 calculation exercises which total up to 300 points. Gives 15 extra credit opportunities worth 2 pts each. If you want to pass, memorize the material and don't let it pile up.
Super kind guy and I personally enjoyed his exams. Every question could be linked back to a slide for lectures. The written assignments were graded pretty strictly. My biggest advice would be to set yourself up for success and do all the written assignments and study for the extra-credit quiz, so you have a buffer/boost for your final grade.
He was a good professor overall when teaching and going over slides. However, he does not provide a study guide for exams so you will have to know/memorize all 100 slides for exams.
His class was very lecture heavy and basically with all of his tests, you would have to memorize all of his lecture slides just to pass the exams.
Class is an easy A, everything is online except for the attendance quizzes and the final exam, It is pretty boring but if u just want a free A you should take it, Failed the final and still got an A since everything else is online. Attendance is sort of mandatory since there are pop quizzes about once every other week but they're open note
Pretty much a free A because majority of the quizzes are online except for the attendance quizzes and final. The attendance quizzes are at random so it's best to show up and be there. The lectures are very boring, and I suggest using a computer to write the notes because using a notebook did not help. Bombed the final and still passed.
Easy A. As long as you have the notes, everything on the quizzes are from there with no reading required and all quizzes being open note. Do have 9 short pop quizzes, though their timing is usually predictable and they too are open note. Only the final exam (cumulative) isn't but it's only worth 12% of your grade. Not many assignments either.
This class had minimal hw and quizzes. There were 3 tests and a non-cumulative final. His lectures were so clear and he went over every slide in detail (they were fill-in-the-blank style, so make sure to have a buddy). His exams were SOOO easy as long as you studied well for them. I usually took 3 full days of studying and had no problem. Def take!
I can't emphasize how much I regret taking this professor for my lab he makes school feel a living hell, mind you lab is only once a week I wanted that day of the week to disappear off the face of the earth that's how much I hated lab day. Goodluck even passing
6 exams for a class non major elective course is crazy
