Professor Stanford made this class by far the hardest class I have ever taken at this school. There is no Canvas page and he provides you with no notes or anything. You must go to class and he speaks way too fast where you can't write down all the info. Quizzes are based on readings and are unnecessarily hard. Felt like he wanted us to fail.
Professor Stanford has been one of my favorite professors at Delaware thus far. It is clear he genuinely cares about his students and wants them all to succeed. He challenges students to reach their highest potential through meaningful and extremely interesting information. This is no easy A, but a class you will be sure to never forget. Take him!
Stanford is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students and the information he is giving out. Any questions you have he is willing to further explain them & stay after lectures to talk to students. Also willing to get to know his students and understand where they are struggling and how he can fix it. Amazing prof, 10/10
Stanford was my favorite professor, he made the class so interesting and is so inspired by what he is teaching. He truly loves his jobs and is willing to help his students no matter what. Also stays after class to make sure everyone understands what he taught or just to see if any students need to speak to him. He's amazing, 10/10
Professor Stanford is amazing. His lectures are incredibly engaging and makes the class go by super quick. The quizzes can be hard but if he knows that you put in effort, he will make sure you get a good grade. He really cares about his students and wants you to do well so it would be a huge mistake not to take his class.
Professor Stanford is the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are AMAZING and each class feels like a TED Talk. You do not need a textbook, but read ALL the handouts. This class was very very hard, but what you learn and get out of it makes it so worth it. This class changed my life, let it change yours.
Professor Stanford's class is difficult, so you need to read meticulously and consistently be studying. However, his lectures are incredible. He is a natural public speaker and hilarious, so you'll never be bored in his class. Professor Stanford truly cares about his students and their success. 10/10 would choose him again as a professor.
Professor Stanford is one of my favorite professors. His class is not difficult but you NEED to pay attention, attend class and ask questions. The readings are heavy but you NEED to read.
He gives you a lot of readings and quizzes. Be sure to read for specifics like dates, times, and names. The class is hard, in the sense that the tests are specific, but the lectures are amazing and you learn a lot of information. I would definitely recommend taking the class, but be prepared to study hard.
Dr. Stanford is a great professor. He makes it seem like hes gonna he super hard at the beginning but hes actually pretty chill. Hes pretty strict on attendance and punctuality, but his classes are actually really enjoyable, it was the one class during the semester I legitimately looked forward to, even tho it was at 8 am which says a lot
He's really educated & passionate about the material he teaches. His class is difficult only bc of his quizzes & exams. He gives readings almost every class and the quizzes are VERY specific. KNOW dates, people and events. He really cares for his students & makes class interesting. Not an easy BREATH, but IS worth the knowledge learned. STUDY&READ!
Stanford is a funny professor but gets side tracked a lot. Quizzes and Exams are mostly based on the readings and very specific facts from the readings at that. If you study, do the readings, and take this class seriously, you should be fine.
Professor Stanford is amazing! He has a way of allowing every student to see the world from a perspective he never has taken before. He is brilliant, charismatic, & teaches with the goal of true education and making each individual into a better citizen. His lectures will leave you so inspired that you truly won't mind the work you have to put in.
I personally loved Professor B, definitely one of my favorite professors by far. I have learned so much from his class. I would totally take it again if I could. The readings were a little annoying, but helpful.
Be ready for readings and the quizzes are very specific like an example would be how many camels did someone bring with them. The quizzes do not count as very much though and those questions are usually on the exam as well. The lectures are so amazing and kept my full attention. Take him if you take this class, he is great and will help you.
His lectures are amazing and inspirational, but outside of that there's not a lot of positives about him. Takes him ages to grade assignments, you probably won't know your grade until it's posted after the final. Exams are bluebook exam so basically you have to write essays without any notes. Way too much homework which he grades really tough.
He is the worst professor I've ever had at UD. I took his class online over the summer. There was little description on what he expected for assignments. Most of our grades came from regurgitating readings. He did not have office hours and inconstantly replied to emails. The readings were interesting. But do NOT take any online class with him.
Inspiring content matter and clearly cares about his subject, but as a professor things were lacking. Graduate-level readings that he expected lengthy outlines for every single class. Didn't talk much about expectations (participation) and didn't use canvas for grades because it's not "real life"- seems like he just didn't want to deal with it.
While Professor B was an extremely nice and laid back person, his class, especially his tests were so unnecessarily hard. He requires you to remember minute details from homework readings and spit them back on tests, including names and dates. Hes an awesome dude who kept class interesting but unless you are extremely interested in the topic AVOID!
Always went over time, terrible!
Always went so far over class time and didn't let students leave. Don't take him!
I took this class over the summer session of COVID and I would never take him again. The most nonchalant and vague professor I've had. Readings are very long and assignments are difficult and graded toughly. He will ignore your emails if he doesn't feel like dealing with your issue. The information we learn is so important but he is a horrible prof
Love this guy, cares so much ab students, always wants to hear how we are & what we think & really values our discussions like we're his colleagues. but, slow on grading, so never knew where I stood. weekly reading questions, a midterm and final exam (essays). i might end up failing bc i don't know my grade but he is so nice! material isn't hard
Professor Stanford is compassionate, kind, and inspiring. He cares deeply about the subject matter. He is also great at interacting with students and hearing out their thoughts. He gets the class to think and keeps everyone engaged. Lots of readings, but they are interesting. Downside is he's a slow grader and can be hard to reach outside class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I'm someone who pays attention but prefers to keep my camera off & he would constantly send me messages to turn it back on. Felt really uncomfortable and he definitely picks favorites. His grading is ridiculous for something being taken as an elective. Absolutely terrible. Shouldn't be a teacher.
Professor Stanford is an interesting man whose courses are not easy. I took his Civil Rights Movement class, and then I took his Race in Society class. He is someone who is very passionate about what he does and gives good feedback. I feel like I learned more from his courses than I did in my entire education prior about the topics.
Worst professor at UD. He rants for the whole class time and never gets to his slides to cover the material. Too much work for a level 200! So many readings, and papers are due every week. Plus he doesn't grade anything for weeks so you don't know where you stand in the class. No feedback on work, so you don't know where you need to improve. AVOID
Professor Stanford is an expert in his field. He makes clear that attendance is required and participation is expected. His lectures are engaging and he makes everyone feel included. You need to do the readings and written responses; he gives good feedback to further your understanding of the assignments. I would definitely take another class!
Professor Stanford is such a well respected man who has an amazing view of the world. His lectures are never boring and he is not scared to speak his open mind. This can be very entertaining and makes class not only notable, but something to look forward to.
Professor Stanford is a good Prof and is passionate about what he teaches, but be prepared for his time heavy assignments. Overall good experience from his class
Professor B is very passionate and inspirational. He cares about educating about the reality of race and does no sugar cost things. His class is more of a discussion than a lecture and held my attention. I highly recommend taking notes. He can be a little over the place but no need to stress it. Definitely do read the book and keep on top of it!!!
Dr. Stanford was a GREAT lecturer and is so passionate about what he teaches. Its great. However he grades very strictly and the feedback is very general and takes a very long time to get back to you. His readings and assignments are much more like a 400 level class. They are VERY time consuming. Overall great person, but not so great professor.
Homework was intense and a lot of writing. Cared deeply about the subject matter and wanted you to learn. Some of the subject matter was to hard to grasp and I only got a good grade on paper that were long. Each week you had to answer several questions alongside the readings.
Talks and talks and a lot of the time it's about the same thing. Must buy 2 books and read them.
Professor B is one of the coolest professors I've ever had. He cares deeply about including his student's thoughts and ideas in his lectures/ discussions. Classes are mostly just opening up the discussion to the class and conversing with them about the subject matter. topics can be boring sometimes, but prof. B is the least boring person I've met.
Professor B has always been a beacon of light and inspiration for me! After taking his Race in Society course my freshman year, I knew I had to return to learn more. He is a very considerate and understanding person, but don't bullsh*t his class. The readings he assigns helps us understand not only his class but our world. Highly recommend!
Most engaging lecturer I've had. Pay attention in class + read for the writing assignments you can easily get an A, class material is always interesting and layed out well. Evidence for course concepts is strong and well selected, students can come to conclusions on their own by answering reading questions reinforce concepts and you can learn alot.
Professor Stanford is very passionate about the topic. I learned a lot from his class and what we learned about was very interesting. There are a lot of papers to write. However, they aren't that bad if you care about the topic, which I did. He is also very lenient when it comes to late work and giving extensions and truly cares about his students.
Incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, the in lecture discussions are always engaging and thought provoking. There's a lot of reading and writing required outside of class, but if you make the effort to do the textbook assignments, it will be an incredibly rewarding experience taking this class.
Superb professor. Vey engaging course and a must take for anyone interested in history, sociology, political science, and obviously africana.
He's really caring and allows for extensions. Lots of papers, 2-5 prompts a week. Easy to get good grades on as long as they are lengthy (for me that was 3 or more papers). Great in class was very engaging and funny.
Never ever answers emails unless he miraculously feels like it. Don't think he's super personable. Kind of a hard grader. Expects really long responses to assignments but only really grades the first 3 sentences. Only started taking attendance when he saw people stopped coming :D
He is good professor but gives a lottttt of writing. The class is very informative but beware the work load will be intense.
Prof B is really cool. His class is definitely reading heavy, but if you participate and genuinely try on the readings you will do well in the course. He lets you turn in stuff late until the week of finals for almost full credit. He's really cool and the class is interesting.
You get out of this class what you put in. It's a lot of reading but the reading's are really enjoyable.
Very passionate; class involves a lot of writing; fair grader
Stanford cares very deeply for his students. The class itself was very work heavy and he knew that. He gave out extensions as needed while also inspiring students with his lectures. Finding a better professor at UD would be a challenge.
He is an amazing professor that makes the class something you will look forward to going to
Very good professor and clearly passionate about what he teaches. Definitely a tough grader though - usually a paper every week based on either readings or a documentary. He expects a lot from his students but I learned so much valuable information in this course and honestly think everyone needs to take this class.
Professor Stanford is an amazing teacher. You can tell he genuinely cares about his student's education and the topics he is teaching. The work may seem like a lot sometimes, but it is imperative to do it if you want to do well in class and on finals. I would recommend him to a friend.
Absolutely loved being in class. I learned so much and felt encouraged to have deep discussions about the course material. Professor Stanford is very passionate and informed about the topics he covers. This was my favorite class this semester but the most work. There are weekly papers and a lot of reading.
I loved being part of this course and found the lectures to be very inspired. Brandon Stanford is a very honest and caring professor and will push their students to rethink societal concepts we take for granted in our daily lives. Would take this course by this professor again and would recommend it to anyone.
Professor Stanford is a great teacher and a super cool guy. In any of his classes, you will learn a lot and your perspective and way of thinking will change. Lots of reading and high expectations for assignments, but his classes are worth taking. He is understanding and accepts late assignments.
Professor B, is a great professor. The lectures are always great, discussion are interesting and informative, you'll never be bored in the class. Be ready to do lots of readings and writing. You can always turn in late assignments.
1 of the best professors I have had during my four years at UD. He is clearly very passionate about the subject matter and EXTREMLEY educated. I intially signed up for his Civil Rights Movement class and I loved him as a professor so much that I decided to overload on credits so I could take another class with him. Reading/essay heavy tho
Prof. Stanford had a lot of writing. There was an essay about each week. don't get behind, the late assignments will add up. Participation counts. The class gets you to think about the Civil rights era.
I loved this class, Professor Stanford was amazing. He is passionate, kind, and respectful. While there is a lot of paper it isn't hard if you're passionate about the material. He's a great teacher and it's an easy class. You have to listen, read and write the papers. He is very engaging and its a great class.
Professor Stanford is an amazing professor. He does care about his students and he chooses to make a bond with them. His lectures are interesting and made me want to minor in Africana studies. The one thing about this class is that there is an extreme amount of work. Essays after essays after essays. So be prepared and make sure you do the readings!
The class contents and conversations were definitely all necessary and impactful, however, the course is very paper heavy and time-consuming. Every week, about 2 papers were due and the final consisted of a 5-page paper.
The class is very interesting and makes you see the world differently. The class is not hard, and easy to manage. However, profesor B can sometimes be a little disorganized and can take a long time to grade things. Overall the class is great and recommend for anyone who wants to learn about African Studies.
Professor B. really cares about his students he is passionate and you can feel it! His lectures are so interesting I am never bored and always learn alot. To get an A in class come to class, be engaged which is easy, & set aside time for thoughtful responses on assignments/projects. You will be inspired to change the world after any of his classes.
he was a good professor. talks very fast, and gets a little side tract. attendance is mandatory. he is a heavy grader. very interesting class though and he is really passionate about his class.
He doesn't respond to emails and has favorites.
Professor Brandon is one of the most relatable professors at the university. This being said, his class is challenging. He assigns reading from a book meant to be done outside of class. The material read may or may not be brought up again in class so a question may be asked on an exam about something that was never addressed in class.
Professor Brandon is very passionate. Whenever you are asked a question in this class (exam/ assignment/ in class) you must answer questions completely and thoroughly. Pay attention and takes notes and you'll be fine.
Very relatable professor and funny, but his exams really have nothing to do, or the smallest to do with the actual things we learn in the class. He puts questions about quotes he says on the exams like we are supposed to memorize exactly what he said in class. All this aside, he is an awesome dude its just a hard class.
Dr. Stanford is, regardless of any other outcomes of the class, ON YOUR SIDE! He gives great lectures and while you will be required to do a lot of writing and reading it is all for a purpose. He is friendly with his students and willing to work with you at any point in the semester. If you're interested in Africana Studies I recommend him.
Professor Stanford has been one of my favorite professors at the University of Delaware so far. He's extremely understanding and wants all of his students to succeed. If you need help getting assignments complete he always offers help and provides plenty of resources for you to use if need be. His lectures are always fun and interesting too.
He is very friendly and clearly passionate about the topics he teaches. But his lectures are hard to follow and he speaks very quickly and frantically. He has slides but they have like two sentences on them and the rest he says out loud which is hard to keep up with. There are group presentations and essays and he is a harsh/unclear grader.
very lecture heavy and doesnt post slides. will call on you
Really cool guy and great prof. His lectures are really powerful but the class is very lecture heavy. 3 group presentations, a midterm, and a final are the big grades. He is a reasonable grader. Overall, it was a good class but I would not say it is easy by any means. He's super insightful and intelligent but you really have to work for your grade.
Dr. Standford gives a lively lecture that makes it almost impossible to lack participation. He is very well rounded and always has suggestions if you want to learn more. He gives examples that apply directly to the concepts learned in class.
Very good professor overall! There was a lot of reading, writing, and watching videos but I would take this course again. Very funny teacher and he does make the course interesting, so the good does weigh out the bad.
He is a really good professor and cancels class a lot. There is about an essay a week along with some readings but that is all the work. There aren't any tests, and the midterm and finals are just essays. It is writing and reading heavy but overall a very good class.
Dr Stanford is easily one of the most exciting professors I've ever taken. He doesn't play around with the homework, so make sure you do your readings, or you'll get lost. But his lectures are engaging, witty, and give you information that you simply won't get in any other course or from any other professor. TAKE HIS CLASS
Overrall he is a good professor if you do not like to read or write don't take it only take if you enjoy hearing lectures.
Professor Stanford was an amazing teacher and I would 100% take his course again. His lectures are very engaging, and the homework readings are very educational. You will have to read for this course, but the readings are interesting to read and do not have overwhelmingly hard topics. Do the homework and show up to class and you will do very well.
Lots of writing but favorite professor I've had so far at UD. Cares about his students and is a great lecturer. I would definitely take another of his classes.
I learned so much from this class, and Dr. Stanford always kept me engaged in the content. There were a lot of writing and reading assignments, however, I felt that they were very beneficial to the class as a whole and my experience. The assignments were useful and helped me gain a better grasp of the content. I highly recommend this class!
Class is not really mandatory you have 3 excused absence. Get ready to read and write essays, chat GPT might not help. There are documentaries to watch as well as his class is very engaging only when you pay attention.
I enjoyed Dr. Stanford's class and really learned a lot from him. He related a lot of current events to the issues that past movements worked to reform. There is a good amount of reading and writing but you will learn a lot from it.
Wonderful guy, very passionate about what he teaches. Slow grader, harsh grader as well. Doesn't give comprehensive feedback on what to improve on. Was very understanding about my inability to complete certain audio assignments and gave me alternative assignments, however the lectures were frantic and he never posts slides. Hard to follow sometimes
Every lecture was fun and engaging. He will learn you name and randomly call on you. He is a real guy and cares about all his students. He is so educated on this topic and gets really into what he teaches. Definitely take him if you want a fun professor and a class where you're eyes will be opened. Lots of reading and writing though.
He is very understanding; make sure you stay back and get to know him. He is a great guy.
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. It's an easy class to get an A in as long as you do your homework assignments and participate in class. This class was more about critical thinking than about memorization, so if you aren't a fan of test-taking, but want to gain a lot out of it, I recommend this class.
Professor Stanford always give interesting and captivating lectures that make you want to engage as a student. This is my second time taking one of his courses, I wish I could take a third. He's personable, interesting, cares about the course content, and he cares about his students. Professor Stanford is the reason i chose Afra for my minor!
Professor Stanford really knows the content and has amazing lectures. Reading heavy and lecture heavy, but you will learn so much from this course!
Very knowledgeable and extremely engaging during lectures, never hesitate to voice your opinion in class
Professor Stanford is a good professor and had the best lectures I've ever experienced. He assigns many group projects and they require you to know your stuff and speak in front of the whole class. His class was a bit difficult but I would 100% recommend his course.
Great Professor
Dr. Stanford is an amazing professor and I would take any class that he teaches. This class in particular is group work heavy, but Stanford works with everyone to make sure we are comfortable with the material.
Amazing teacher. He was very open to help students, very comfortable and interactive class, overall great content and experience.
Very knowledgable and cares about the subject matter, did 3 group presentations this semester so be prepared to work on your public speaking
Professor B!! An amazing teacher and mentor. Stanford is very approachable, enthusiastic, and understanding. His work involves a lot of reading and writing, but the material is extremely beneficial and interesting. His feedback is extremely thorough and his grading is fair. I would take his class again just for the heck of it!
He's really easygoing and really cares about the subjects he teaches and the students he has. Honestly, you can only do badly in this class if you don't show up or don't do the work.
Professor Stanford is a dedicated passionate professor and generous advocate regarding Africana studies. He likes using group presentation in order to enhance understanding of various texts, but the assignments are not hard. Just come to class and pay attention and no doubt you'll be well off.
He is a great professor. You can tell that he is very passionate about his job and topics regarding Africana Studies. He can be a tough grader at first, but he will give you feedback to improve your grade and writing. There is a lot of reading involved that can be a struggle to read, but he does go over the readings if you have any questions.
Loved every second of the class.
Great professor and good class to take if you need to fulfill a multi-cultural requirement. Professor Stanford has a great personality and is very passionate about his area of work, so it makes the class engaging. You'll definitely learn a lot in the class!
A very reasonable and approachable professor. The course work may be heavy in material, but he is understanding and will work with you to ensure you are up to date in the course and remain on track.
Good guy, prepare for work load
While you do have to read a lot, everything is doable. I would recommend taking this class with this professor because you will learn a lot.
He's a very engaging lecturer. The workload is heavy but it's not unbearable. Get ready to read and write a lot every week (weekly reading questions that require long, detailed answers). I would definitely take another class with him!
Such a passionate professor, I genuinely loved going to the lectures, and I've usually never excelled when it comes to history. He makes me want to learn and care about the topics he teaches because he cares so much about them. There are a lot of papers, so just make sure to keep on time with them as I easily got behind on them. But 100% take it!!
Dude is the GOAT. Genuinely cares for his students, is passionate about what he teaches, and is an overall amazing teacher. While the homework is a lot, it is attainable to do after a while. Everyone needs to take this man's classes at least once, because he is absolutely outstanding as a teacher and as a human being. Stanford for the win!
This class was very well taught and Professor Stanford was amazing. Great guy with a lot of passion for what he is teaching. Expect reading and writing!
He don't play
The guys personality is the only thing keeping me from rating him a 1. He's a likeable and passionate guy but not a teacher. Entire course was graded by approximately 7 assignments for which you had no guidance on and were not told about. 3 exams which were all unbelievably hard for no reason accounted for 25% of the grade. Overall had no structure
Truly was an eye opening course to take. Lecture was always interesting and never was bored or unengaged during class, participating is important. Reading and studying outside of class is crucial, and so is reaching out with questions on assignments or exams. Overall, I would recommend this course to anyone that has interest in Africana Studies.
He picks favorite students. He calls on white people in the class in a very uncomfortable way in a passive-aggressive way of trying to prove a point. If there is an adverse opinion from a student that he does not agree wit, he allows other students to badger them. The class is overall easy if you just agree with him.
Professor Stanford changed my life. I will never not speak highly of this man and the phenomenal professor that he is. He cares so much for his students and what he teaches. Do not hesitate to take him; the course load can get heavy but he accepts all late work as long as it is in by the end of the semester!!!!!!!!
You will learn a lot from this class, do the reading it is absolutely needed to do well in the course. The work can be heavy, but he accepts late work until the end of the semester, and he is very understanding of mental health/extenuating circumstances. I highly recommend taking this course or any other course Dr. Stanford teaches.
Dr. Brandon Stanford is a remarkable professor who loves teaches his students the deeper history and struggles of the Civil Rights Movement. Although students have to write numerous papers and complete many readings for this class, they are greatly beneficial and fascinating in understanding the more accurate narrative of the Civil Rights Movement.
Professor Stanford's class is one that is so important, and useful to navigating difficult situations. The "wages of whiteness" class is structured for students to learn the truth behind whiteness in society. You have to take this course! I cannot stress how much I enjoyed this class, and how crucial the information is!!
Dr. Stanford is such a great professor that cares about not only the material of the course, but the impact it has on his students. This class does require a lot of reading but it is definitely manageable. The topics are taught in a way that is easy to understand and he has no trouble clarifying or helping if you don't understand a topic.
Professor Stanford made the material that was already interesting easier to understand. He also made classes interactive and didn't just talk at you during the lectures. He wants to connect with all of his students.
This was one of the most valuable, relevant and important classes I have ever taken. Professor Stanford is super passionate about the topic and was extremely inspiring. The course is definitely reading and writing heavy but he's willing to work with you. I would definitely take his classes again.
This class was so eye opening. Professor Stanford's lectures are really engaging and informative. He really cares for his students and wants them to succeed. There are 3 page papers every Sunday based on the readings for that week so, it's a good amount of work but it's doable and you will definitely learn a lot.
good he cares about his students
Professor Stanford is very educated in the field of africana studies and I have personally never seen a professor speak so passionately in their lectures. The class is very lecture based at the beginning then shifts into group presentations on several different books. The class is heavily reading based and all the projects are group projects.
I had very little interest in this course going into the semester, but Professor Stanford easily made it one of my favorite courses. His lectures are very engaging, and you can tell how passionate he is about the subject. The coursework can be a little overwhelming at first, but it is completely doable. I highly recommend taking this class.
Gifted in his speciality. Clearly cares about his students. He calls out students ONLY when he wants them to ensure they are actually getting something correct. He never belittles. He wants to understand your POV. He wants to make sure people are attentive. The things he teaches clearly connects to real life and must be taken seriously. Loved it!
Amazing teacher and very interesting class. Took this because I was interested in the topic but the professor made it even better with how entertaining and engaging he was. Be aware of the group assignments.
Loooooved taking the class with him. He is one of the best professors at UD. He cares a lot about his students and does his best to make the class interesting. The grades easily as long as you show up and do the assignments you will be fine. He has a lot to learn from.
LOVED the way he taught, very passionate and actually enjoyed his lectures. Miss one lecture and you miss a ton of info. Final was very difficult and didn't match the content, but the first two exams were open-book and very easy if you took notes.
Great professor, even better person. Dr. Stanford is very passionate about this topic and the study in general. Be ready to read a lot of old books and write a lot of papers every week. They're each around 3 pages. It can be a lot at first but once you get farther into the semester, they become very duoable.
His passion for this class can be felt the moment you step into the room. He is willing to talk to students when they need help. You should expect to be writing a solid amount during the semester, 3-page papers due every week on readings, videos, and the topics covered during the week.
Dr. Stanford was an exceptional professor who challenged me to become a stronger writer and more thoughtful critical thinker.
He is a caring professor who wants you to succeed. I would recommend doing the readings and taking notes every class. GET THE TEXTBOOK. The exams were a bit tough, but if you studied and did the readings you should be fine. Overall, great professor and would 100% take him again.
Great professor and very passionate about his subject area. I've taken courses with him in the past and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. AFRA206 is group project-heavy and will dictate most of the class grade, a format not seen in his other classes. Though informative and recommendable, I would keep this format in mind if it is not your cup of tea.
Super great guy, the class wasn't bad. DO NOT take this class if you are not prepared to write a 3 page paper every week and read a lot. But he is super nice and understanding. He gives good feedback. Just wants to push you to be a critical thinker and a better writer. Only graded on attendance, weekly papers, and midterms and finals.
Too much reading and writing. Way too hard for a breadth course. Take an easier class. Warped and biased material. Do not take if you are right leaning.
My favorite professor ever. Very engaging and passionate which makes the class so interesting. I've taken 2 of his classes, for both HE DID NOT DO THE GRADING so the grading really depends on who the ta is and thats who you communicate with. There are a lot of reading but if you're interested in racism and history they are pretty easy.
He was one of my favorite professors and I recommend this class to everyone! He wants students to understand the lectures and he does asks questions, but with no right or wrong answer. The tests are kind of challenging and reading-heavy so be sure to do the readings !
Love the professor! You will be reading a lot and need to be able to interpret material well. Just a lot of reading.
This class was very interesting! You are assigned a couple of readings per week and then respond to essay questions about the readings. Attendance is definitely mandatory, but the lectures are very engaging, and we even watched a couple of movies in class that corresponded to what we were learning. I would take another class with this professor!
A great teacher who cares about his job.
His classes are really enjoyable and informative, but also ones that expect you to invest a lot of time reading and writing into. I felt that his format for homework assignments helped me grow a lot as a writer over the course of the semester. his classes tend to contain very heavy topics, but he teaches them in a way that keeps people engaged
His lectures are always very engaging. He clearly knows what he is talking about and he cares about the topics as well. He allows us time to work outside of class as well which is nice. It is very reading heavy, but the readings are all pretty interesting and he gives good feedback on all papers.
Very passionate during lectures, gives great feedback, and works with students.
Proffessor Stanford was engaging and eager to teach and learn from his students as well. I enjoyed attending his lectures and always left feeling like I had learned something new.
From the first class, you could tell that Professor Stanford was extremely passionate about this course. His lectures facilitate conversation and allow students have academic discussions openly. The course itself is very interesting and I definitely learned a lot. It is a little reading/writing heavy, but definitely doable, so don't be discouraged!
Awesome class! Very good professor as well. Expect to be writing essays during the semester, 3 page papers due every week on readings and other topics covered during the week, all assignments are easy as long as you show up and pay attention. Overall a great class.
He was one of my favorite professors so far. He is very understanding of your time, and give extensions when needed. Overall the course work and his lecture were clear, sometimes certain concepts may be confusing but he always elaborate it through his feedback.
Professor Stanford is an amazing professor. Truly caring and passionate about his teaching and his students. There are readings every week and a paper to them but they are fairy easy and a great way to better your writing skills. A lot of the time we did not have class due to him giving us a day off to watch an episode instead of reading. 10/10
tests are hard so make sure you study. study definitions!!! he is so funny though
Dr, Stanford is amazing professor who is so real. You can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching and loves talking. He does assign a lot of writings (every sunday) based off assigned readings, so be aware if thinking of taking this course, But it's definitely a course I would suggest taking if interested in the Civil Rights Movement.
He is a passionate professor and obviously has much experience in AFRA studies but did not follow his syllabus which made it difficult to follow his class. He also does not post slides in canvas, so make sure you take notes. The last week of the class was inconsistent since he was lax on some things strict on others. Overall enjoyed.
