I am not a math person, but Thornton is excited about it, and it shows. He works through problems on the board to prepare you for the homework assignments, and gives test reviews both in class and outside of class. He also is a strong advocate for learning good note taking skills, which I appreciated.
It seems teaching is not his passion. Lectures are all over the place, he is easily confused, and students had to correct him more than it should be acceptable. If you don't put in effort, its not gonna be easy. He does try to answer all questions anyone has, but there would be a lot less confusion if he had better lecture structure.
This was a pretty difficult course. Homework for every section and covers 2 sections a day. He'll take questions off the book and notes so you have to be at the lectures. . You need the book. Gives extra credit chances. Highly recommend you take them considering it was the difference in me getting an A.
The book is $100, need a TI-84 calc and need to know statistics before you get into his class. He gets frustrated with people asking too many questions. Goes through lectures very fast. You basically need to teach yourself after leaving his lectures.....
Professor Thornton is terrible at teaching statistics. He rushes through lectures and gives very short explanations when asked a question that are not helpful. He seems ok with half of his class receiving failing grades on tests. He is terribly condescending and does not foster a healthy class time.
extremely hard tests. its like he has an ego and tells you drop and take the class again. doesnt explain anythi g except rhat you should be up to par if you in his class.
Rushes lectures, there is only limited tests. Very Unorganized, constantly going between problems (because he would forget to mention steps or he would do mistakes making it very confusing)
I came into this class after a long break from school and was expecting to do horrible, I passed with an A. He gives very clear instructions during the class, and works out plenty of example problems. If you show up to class and take good notes you'll do fine, you will have to do your homework if you want to do well, dont be lazy. I liked the class
Thornton as a person is nice. As a professor he is horrible he rushes through the whole class. If you ask too much questions you can totally see his frustration. Only 2 people on the whole class were passing some exams. It was so bad. I say that if more than half of the class is not doing well on exams there is a issue. Something needs to get fixed
Overall, he is an okay professor. I took Trig with him, as long as you do the homework problems and go over each example in the text book, you should be fine in his class. His exams are not easy but it won't be super hard either. He is very nice and cares about how students are doing.
Professor Thornton is a Phenomenal Mathematics teacher. His teaching technique is easy to understand and follow along with. His grading criteria is clear to understand & He keeps the class engaged and interested. A qnouick pace class but a lot is covered. I highly recommend Proffesor Thornton for Elementary statistics or college algebra
Professor Thornton is a Phenomenal Mathematics teacher. His teaching technique is easy to understand. His grading criteria is clear to understand & He keeps the class engaged and interested. A quick pace class but a lot is covered. I highly recommend Proffesor Thornton !
Professor Thornton is very passionate and dedicated to teaching. He gave clear expectations of what was needed to be successful in his class. He was always available during office hours and would work out examples several times if needed. If you're willing to put in the time and dedication he is too.
I've taken Stats with him, and let me tell you... you will have a difficult time in his class if you do not already know stats. When students ask questions you can see some frustration from him. The tests are very difficult. No extra credit. Many people dropped the class bc of the difficulty of passing and lack of explanation through his lectures.
This guy is very understanding, he knows his material. Would work with you if you asked. I recommend him because he doesn't try to trick you.
This class isn't meant to be easy. Yes, a lot of students dropped it, but mostly because they skipped class. Of course you're not going to do well if you skip an exam what did you expect? Don't procrastinate on the homework, its meant to help you. As long as you follow his study guide (learning lab, guided notes, etc), you will pass the exams.
He has a good way of explaining things. Really nice guy as well.
Professor gives up on you and if you don't do your home or follow class by class you will fail. The book explains it better than the professor. Doesn't lecture well
Great personality socially, but professionally disorganized and visibly frustrated & irritated w/ multiple questions, does not provide details during chalkboard note taking, gets lost in his own explanations of examples, doesn't check the questions given on test/exam to confirm that the answer coincides w/ current teachings, NO extra credit
TERRIBLE!! By far the worst professor I've ever had. He has no desire to teach. Lectures were poorly structured and very confusing. He went through each section super fast. He talks a mile a minute and when he's showing problems on the board he doesn't show his work. It makes it really hard to follow. He doesn't like when students ask questions.
Prof. B lectures extremely fast. He can be hard to understand at times, and I have found that in this statistics course he has a difficult time explaining things in a way that a first time student can understand. I also took him for Algebra. Yea, don't do that. If you take him just take MATH1342!(if needed) DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ALGEBRA!
Overall cool guy. Kind of all over the place and unorganized at times. Explains the content of the course very well and provides guided notes that he prints out himself. Make sure you still read the book carefully
Dr. thornton was all over the place when lecturing. He doesn't cover what the textbook says and what he expects for the exams. If this is your first time with statistics you will have a difficult time learning. I had to learn through youtube, tutors, and the textbook. You will be teaching yourself practically. i do not recommend him at all. AVOID!
Do the work and pass. Pretty cut and dry. Good teacher overall.
Horrible professor. He gives guided notes but they honestly don't help much. He is very unapproachable when asking questions. lectures are unorganized and 90% of the time he erases what he writes on the board because he did it wrong. He pulled people out of class 1 by 1 to tell them they would fail. No privacy. It was humiliating for them.
SHOW UP TO CLASS. TAKE GOOD NOTES. READ TEXTBOOK. COMPLETE HW. STUDY If you follow those usual college steps then you will pass. People say that he ins't a good professor, but don't be mad at him because you're not good in math. He even says to GO TO TUTORING and if you need help TALK TO HIM. He's not there to hold your hand hes there to teach.
Professor Thornton was Extremely knowledgeable and helpful this semester. I struggled initially with the work but he was accessible outside of class and via email to help me understand and eventually master the equations!
Great professor. Class was pretty cut and dry. Overall great teacher and I look forward to taking a statistics course with him!
The greatest courses are always the most difficult! Professor Thornton class was tough. Work and attendance was a must but hes very a very helpful mathematical wizard! Great class
lectures were bland and fast paced, homework wasnt graded other than effort (good and bad) , no real outline for test prep, no partial points, sometimes could get frustrated if someone didnt get a concept, group work while while he was at the desk, no passion for teaching. 6wk so im sure that was part of it.
He's a nice professor, I took him twice and the second time around it was much easier to understand his teaching styles. IF you want to pass, show up to class everyday and do your hw. He outlines the chapter objectives, but that's not an answer key, you have to go into the book and learn yourself as well. He's a touch/easy grader depends.
Fantastic Professor! Online textbook required but it's worth it! Lectures are based off the book. Will provide you with guided notes and extra practice problems. Will answer any questions! The material is a bit challenging, but if you practice you'll do great! SHOW UP TO CLASS BC IF YOU MISS YOU'LL BE BEHIND. 4 tests, 3 HW grades, 4 quizzes.
Calc-I This was a really challenging course. Professor Thornton is a really tough grader. If you make just a few arithmetic mistakes, you will end up with a B on the test. If you do take him, be prepared to know how to do every problem in the book, its fair game. He doesnt really lecture or answer your questions.
Mr. Thornton is amazing! Tough material but he's very gracious with the extra credit options. *Don't fall behind on homework, don't miss lecture and take detailed notes!* He's available outside of class and is responsive to emails if you have any questions. Very encouraging and motivational professor. Online textbook option or bust!
Very Helpful! The class is only tough when you miss class, don't take notes and don't do the homeowrk. He shows you how to do problems and if you need help on how to do it, he will answer. He tries to push people to talk and take initiave, because if you don't understand the problem and don't speak, he can't help you. Homeowrk is a lot, but easy.
Don't ever take this class if your math skill is poor. This was the hardest class ever I've taken! His lecturing went too fast, and their test was tough grader! If you made a small mistake on your test and it will biggest impact grade on your test!
This teacher is not a teacher That knows how to teach students. Hes not clear with his lectures hes contradicting himself all the time. If you miss one word on an answer on a test you got that wrong even if you got the rest right. I struggled with math in high school and this just made it even worse please dont take this course or any by him.
THICK note packets. Prof. T is a great guy but he doesn't really break down any of the material for those students who struggle in math. Grading is point based. Tons of HW and there's a project. Mostly you work in groups and he's just there if and when you need him. Ask a question & you may end up more lost.
Had to retake calc and having Thornton made it much easier. Be sure you have a solid knowledge of terminology and do the homework. This is a straight forward class but requires you to develop skill through out the course as any calc course would. Be proactive make sure you understand and can recall content otherwise you will get lost later.
Great Professor who teaches you math as if preparing you to be a mathematician.
Hes a great teacher and has organized notes for each of his class. He gives great feedback after a test to make sure you really understand the concept. I would definitely take him again.
Thornton is a good, esp. if u have trouble understanding math. He's super prompt on email, always happy to answer Q's. Cares for students: likes learning about them as people. KEY CRITIQUE (why I wouldn't take again): Class is VERY heavy on group work, lots of discussing material/working probs with classmates. As introvert, I didn't like that part.
Took him for both pre calc-2412 and Calc-2413. Both classes consist of four units. Each unit 1 quiz is given (10points), as well as 1 homework assignment (20 points) which is due the day of the exam (100 points). Final (4th exam) is cumulative. He is very lenient and always available... just reach out. Attend class and do HW you will do well!
Prof Thornton was a perfect choice for me. Math is always hard, it becomes harder and frustrating when you get a wrong instructor. As it's written over a portal of the University of Virginia's Carbel Hall, prof Thornton instructions are based on the illimitable freedom of the human mind. I encourage new students to go for this great professor!
He was a very good teacher and very accessible during hard times .
Like many people, I had anxiety around math, but that all changed once I was Professor Thornton's student. He's personable, and works just as hard as his students to ensure success in his course. The class is designed so that if you do your homework and attend lecture- YOU CAN BE AN A+ MATH STUDENT! Don't hesitate- take his class. Recommend 100%!
I had such a great experience in his algebra class, I went back to take Thornton for calculus. I was not a natural "math person", but with his instruction and support I got an A in both classes. I never felt surprised on exams because problems were drawn directly from lecture and homework.
Prof Thornton is a good choice for everyone who wants to get good knowledge. He places great value on depth, breadth, and accuracy of knowledge. The most important thing is that his instructions are based on the illimitable freedom of the human minds. You can not feel fear and shame to ask questions. His feedback is always helpful. thanks, prof T
I had Pre-cal with him in covid-19 time in both in-class and online, he was helpful, gives clearly-explained lectures , encourages everyone to ask for help. Tests & exam were inline with his reviews. If you want to understand math deeply and go to university take his class. Math is not easy, it needs practice if you do the home works it is easy A.
This is my second time taking Calculus and Professor Thornton made the course understandable for me. There is alot of homework but the exams matched the homework. I would take him again .
He's a good teacher who goes over the important points and gives good direction on how to learn the material.
Professor Thornton is hands down the most amazing prof ever! He genuinely cares about his students and he also cares that you understand beyond those math formulas. He makes sure that you actually understand the concepts and be able to apply them. His class never feels stressful at all!
He's a solid choice. Took his elementary stats online 10 week course. He was very willing to meet virtually with me one on one when I was confused and is super understanding. His dry humor makes class better too. Take notes first before class, don't be afraid to ask questions, and read his assignment requirements. You'll do great!
Very helpful at answering any questions
I took Calc 1 with Professor T after previously failing the class at UT Austin. I have always struggled with college level Math but leaving this class I feel confident in my abilities. Prof T replies fast to emails and makes himself available through calls as well to walk you step by step through problems. My grade received is just a guess.
Took Calc 1 during Summer of 2020 at ACC. Prof T gave a lot of homework but it gave me an appreciation and deeper understanding of the material. He was always available via email and would respond to emails within minutes. He even met with us for a study session on a Sunday. Calc is tough, but Prof Thornton makes you actually learn
He truly cares about his students. He also makes the lectures quite enjoyable and he is always available to give feedback asap. Incredible professor and a really kind guy
I took a Summer course with Brandon's help. He was always available when I needed him and was super knowledgable about Statistics. He was instrumental to my success in the course I took. I highly recommend taking his classes.
Professor Thornton was awesome. You can tell his love for the subject. He was always helpful and provided timely replies when reached. What he expects from his students is clear and there is no surprises. 100% recommend taking him for distance or in class learning.
Took Prof. Thornton for 10-week calc 1 and he honestly made me really enjoy the course. He is always available to answer any questions that you have. Attending/participating in the lectures, doing all of the homeworks thoroughly , and asking questions got me the grade that I got so I would recommend to try that.
Overall great professor; he sets up his class in a way that rewards effort. If you aren't necessarily getting the material you'll have plenty of opportunities to get the material. He does very well with providing study material so even if your struggling with comprehending from the lectures; you can get a c on a exam if you study the videos.
Explained subjects throughly if a student didn't understand, and explained it well. Exams based on hw so as long as you understand the hw problems you'll do fine. Fast grader and responder to e-mails, bumped up my grade when I needed it.
Calc is hard in general, but he would explain things again if there was confusion. Tests were based off the HW, so as long as you studied that and the lecture notes you would be fine.
Excellent professor. If you do your homework, then you will have no problem with the tests. Test questions are taken from homework problems or are very similar. Highly recommend.
I do not recommend this professor for an online class! He does not allow his lectures to be recorded and if you have technical issues you are screwed. He was the most insensitive and rude professor I have ever had. He speeds through his lectures and does not answer questions. There are much better proff out there. Avoid him!
Professor Thornton keeps his students engaged and an on track by having his students practice problems in small groups. He also gives extra credit through bonus questions.
A little fast sometimes with his lectures but overall, great professor! Homework, reviews, and exams consist of the same material. At the beginning of class, he always asks if anyone has questions and clarifies until you get the hang of it. Totally recommend!!
Tough class and I barely made an A. I felt like I would've done better in person than online for this course. Textbook and notebook are on Wiley Plus. Studying the guided notes are a must! Prof Thornton was very helpful, always available for questions and extremely thorough with explanations. Highly recommended!
Really good at answering questions and going over the material. Goes over multiple examples and gives solutions afterwards so we can look back at it
great professor. the materials are not easy but he did his best to make it straightforward and easy to study by providing thorough explanation in class and guided notes that were very helpful. he is always available for questions. highly recommended!
Great Professor. Very patient and does a great job balancing the workload and the amount of information covered on the exams. Excellent at explaining the steps to figure out problems.
A genuinely amazing professor, would and do recommend! I'm notoriously horrible at math and it tends to not stick with me, or my professors haven't been willing to work with me. Professor Thornton was extremely caring and it shows, he clearly wants his students to do well and puts in the extra effort to ensure they will.
After returning to school after some 40 years, Professor Thornton demonstrated patience while very knowledgeable of the subject matter. As good as his on-line presence, I got a feeling that in-class teaching is much better.
Overall he was a good professor! The lectures are very fast paced, so you'll definately need to watch the videos provided with the textbook BEFORE class because we mostly just went over example problems. He always gives you a chance to ask questions in class and the workload is managable! Also, he grades everything very quickly which is fantastic!!
Took synchronous. The tests are based on the reviews and he gives partial credit. Final replaces lowest test grade if higher. There is lots of homework, but it helps A LOT. Always asks if anyone has any questions and goes through problems to help struggling students. He wants his students to succeed!
I got a C because life itself is hard with a family. He's very understanding and responds right away when you email him with questions. Do your assignments and study the information he's provided. Statistics is something you have to make sure to understand from the first chapter and it builds from there. I recommend him.
Pros: Nice professor that really has a passion for math. Easy to communicate with. Cons. Needs to SLOOOW DOOOWN. We are students and do not process as fast as you!
Awesome Professor that knows how to explain a certain criteria that some don't get, he does not record his lectures so if you skip his class you WONT PASS, reading the notes and seeing examples only do so much, the best time to ask something is when he is doing his lectures. I have had this professor before and each time he gets better and better
I'd recommend him to anyone! Down to earth, approachable professor that gives easy-to-follow, understandable lectures. Answers questions well. Always uploads the class notes with solutions which is great. There's plenty online homework but it will force you to understand the material well. Exams aren't too hard if you studied/did your homework!
In the beginning the professor spoke really fast. If you explain that the process is going to fast, he is kind enough to slow down and even do 1 on 1 after class and gives you the opportunity before and after class to ask questions. He gives practice problems and homework that covers pretty much all the test.
Exams are problems straight from the homework. Lectures are not recorded, but are not necessary to attend, even to get an A. Our semester was given a good 30 points of extra credit, a little under a full letter grade.
Great professor. If you do the homework and practice problems you will do great, and also ask questions.
Prof. T truly cares about the success of his students. He is accessible when needed and encourages using tutoring resources (which was very helpful). He provides opportunity for extra credit, and is a very fair grader. Participation, and completeing the homework and practice work are key to acing the exams. Put in the effort and you will do well!
He is a very chill and nice Prof. No recording. Classes can be a little bit fast. Lots of Hw on ALEKS for every chapter, but it'll help you to understand and prepare well for the exams. 4 Exams on ALEKS (the last one can be back up your lowest one). 4 Reviews for exams too, and it's similar to Exams. Extra Credit. Plz, ALWAYS SHOW UP ON CLASS!!!
Even though the summer session was material dense, professor Thornton provided explanations and any extra materials we needed to study. I really enjoyed this class!
I took his class during the summer so it was a little fast, but it was obvious that he enjoys what he is teaching and that he wants his students to succeed. He offers a lot of in-class review time (super helpful). The notes he provides are super helpful as well as the study guides. I definitely recommend!
Even though we had to rush through the material due to it being a summer class, he made sure that we understood the material as much as we could before we moved on. Always was open to questions. I would 100% recommend taking him. That being said, It was still a pretty hard class but if you spend the time you should be able to pass.
Wonderful professor who truly cares about each student. Took his 8-week summer course and was very much satisfied with my grade. Not too much of a heavy grader.
Professor Thornton was super straightforward with his lectures. Homework had a very long window of completion, and everything was due by the exam date. He also always made sure to give plenty of time for practice, & was ready to answer any questions anyone had.
This was one of my absolute favorite math professors. If math is something that comes with ease to you then this class is a breeze. You could just do the homework and basically pass the exams, as long as you understood the material. Just having a good solid foundation in algebra and operations should get you covered.
As long as you attend class you won't have issues. Professor Thornton is one of the few teachers who has adapted well to online lectures. As long as you attend, and are willing to ask questions when you don't understand material, this class is great for online!
Professor T is not bad at all. If you are someone that does need more help in math, he is great. As long as your questions are clear, then he can help with no problem. He is really cool and the tests are straight from homework overall. Do your homework and ask questions, youll do just fine in this class.
Professor Thornton's classes are difficult, but he is not without sympathy. If he sees you struggling, he will do everything within his power to help you succeed. I am an older student and haven't looked at math in a long time, and he understood that. He took note of my progress through the semester and rewarded me at the end. Very nice professor.
Professor Thornton is one of the best math professors I've had. I'm not the best at math when it comes to understanding it. However, Professor Thornton makes it easy to understand any concept. As long as you attend class, read the textbook a little bit, and do the homework, passing the class with the grade you want is achievable.
Professor Thornton was extremely fair and patient. He gave us plenty of chances for extra credit and answered my emails outside of class almost immediately every time I emailed him! He is very accessible and that very helpful for me!
Professor Thorton was caring, well spoken, and patient with the class. He had a portion of class dedicated to answering homework questions, and allowed us to ask questions during the lecture. The lectures were straightforward and helped me prepare for the homework, quizzes, and tests. I genuinely enjoyed attending his class. 10/10
Professor T is honestly great! He goes through the material at a decent pace and has no problem stopping the lecture to further clarify things. He makes his students feel very comfortable and always encourages questions and dialogue. If you need to take any math or stats class, I highly recommend him! You won't regret it! Best of Luck!!
Prof. T was great! The class is kind of homework heavy but answers are available as you do homework and Prof. T is always willing to help with any homework questions. Lectures were good and made all the material very understandable and available to us all I would totally recommend his class!
Professor Thornton is an amazing professor who truly wants all of his students to succeed. This class is a fast pace class, however if you are a person who struggles, he gives great feedback and multiple chances to improve. As long as you are present, take notes, and do homework on time, you will succeed.
Professor Thornton is very hands-off, unless you speak up and ask for help. He's willing to sit down with you and help you understand the material. There is a good amount of homework-- But none that I felt was more than necessary to gather the concepts. His lectures can drag a bit for my taste, but they're slow enough that you can understand him.
it felt more like reading class than CAL class, he reads through the solutions rather than explaining them to us. you feel like you are asking for a favor when you ask him a question about old stuff. He asks everyone to see a tutor if you do not understand some of the stuff that he READS for you.
Great professor, as long as you keep up with the work you should have no trouble doing well in this class, and Prof. Thornton is always great to ask questions to whenever confusions come up.
Professor Thornton is a great person and always put student first. I'd recommend my friends to take Professor T class. His lecture was perfect and I have no complaint about taking Math 1342. It was a great opportunity to take Professor T class. Thank you Professor Thornton for being excellent teacher!!!!
I was weary that statistics was required class that would be taken through my last trimester of pregnancy with a 1 year old, but Professor Thornton made this class VERY manageable. He THOROUGHLY goes through the material, and records the lectures. You are given lots of time, and extra credit. Take notes, do the homework and you will receive an A.
This is a great class if you go to lectures and take notes. You are able to use a sheet with formulas and notes for tests.
Professor Thornton is a great prof, who is genuine and quite funny. He can go through lectures a little fast, but he is always happy to answer any questions. There is a good amount of homework, but all the questions on the quiz and test are based off the homework. Additionally, the quiz is similar to what the test will look like.
My first statistics class ever. Four tests (each 2 parts: 1 multiple choice, 1 where you show work/short answer) 4 quizzes, HW(easy). EXTRA CREDIT opportunities. If you never really struggled too much with math in HS I'd say you'll do well. Do what he suggests and review his notes. You're allowed one pg of notes for each quiz/test. Great professor.
This class was alright but easy. His teaching style is ok, works for some and others not. I Did teach myself basically everything, but that's my fault considering I did fall asleep during all of the lectures. He is willing to answer any questions you may have. Tests, quizzes, and homework will determine your grade but he does give extra credit.
An amazing professor for a brutal class on a very difficult subject. Offered tons of extra credit and gives good feedback if you ask. That said, it's still calculus. You need to study for two hours a day *minimum*, take notes using his handouts, and do practice problems. Get a tutor, do all the homework, and do recommended problems and then some.
Originally took this professor because of the glowing reviews here, but this class was a joke. I put in so much effort and ended up with a good grade, but no thanks to him. He constantly got problems wrong in class, and rushed through lectures, along with constant interruptions on his end like answering phone calls. Completely unprofessional.
His lectures can be quick because of the amount of information needed to go into them but he makes it simple to understand and doesn't mind going back if you didn't understand something. Professor Thornton understands Calculus is difficult so he helps you practice and finds resources to study. Overall great course and professor.
Professor Thornton really wants you to success and he really wants you to study. He gives you plenty of time to ask questions in the class and he will not make you feel embarassed even if you ask easy questions that you should have known already. He gives you lots of homework, but he meant for you to succeed in the course and prepare for the exams.
Professor Thornton was great, gives extra credit, explains again if you ask him and responds emails as fast as he can
Good communicator- respondes to his email right away. Very understanding and compasionate towards student's need/circumstances. Would take again! :)
Professor Thornton is a great prof! He cares about his students, the work is straight forward, and he has a calm & kind energy even virtually. There is a lot of material to get through, but if you review material before the lectures and plan enough time out to complete assignments, you will be just fine in this course :)
Great professor!! You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed inside and outside of the classroom. Answers any questions you have without belittling you or making you feel dumb.
Remember this is a college course, if you do the homework and put in the work you will pass when taking Professor Thornton. All around understanding and relaxed guy who really wants you to put an effort into the material. Extremely clear on what is on the tests with no surprises. Would take again!
The best!! I've always had a hard time with math but Professor Thornton made it click for me. Had extra credit which was super nice considering I don't do that well on exams. I'm taking him again for my next Calc class this upcoming semester. Honestly feels weird saying this but his math class is the one I'm most excited for.
Professor Thornton finds joy in what he is teaching & conveys that through his lectures. He is patient & wants his students to understand the material fully. He provides a lot of practice questions & extra material to help you learn the material before the exams. He is a great teacher & has a fun and welcoming personality as well.
I took this class because Prof. T had some great reviews on here, but I would not recommend him at all. He cancelled 8 of our classes and left halfway through the allotted class time for the rest of our classes. He rushed through lectures, doing one or maybe two practice problems for each concept. I taught myself this whole semester.
He gave us a ton of extra credit to make up for the fact that he wasn't teaching anything. He didn't grade the homework or the quizzes, just gave everybody full points. So strange.
Definitely listen to other recent reviews. I gained more by teaching myself the material instead of wasting my time in his class that he would let out early anyway or cancel. Only attended on test and quiz days and got As, my classmates weren't so lucky and ended with C's or lower. He has too much going on outside class to give proper attention.
This class honestly was so enjoyable to be in. The homework reflects the exams a lot so you feel very prepared going into exams. He is very organized and patient; which is impressive, he is very approachable and easy to follow. The class is one that made math make a lot of sense, and many opportunities to excel.
There were pros and cons to the course but overall had a good experience. Pros were the organization, in class guides notes, and he was very approachable as a professor. Cons were the amount of homework and difficulty of the exam. However the exams did match what we did in homework. I would take his class again and I would recommend it to others.
He is awesome Teacher and all I can say is take his class. He is good at teaching .
Very good professor
Amazing professor! He was very accessible outside class and was very clear and helpful on the homework and very encouraging. Very easy to reach him outside of class. Very helpful during class lectures. I would take him again!
he is so awesome
He is one of the greatest professors at ACC, he cares about his students too much and always makes sure that you are on the right path to success.
Professor T was really flexible and cool and made plenty of opportunities for review and questions if you were struggling with something.
This professor helped during some tough times. He was understanding with late assignments and being able to take exams after deadlines. HW is perfect practice for the exams and quizzes. I have failed calc TWICE but prof.T is great at working the problems out and explaining and I passed. 10/10 would HIGHLY recommend to people struggling with calc.
Great professor, the course is work heavy and your test grade is 50% of your final grade. Pay close attention to the home work and practices and you wont have a problem passing the course. Prof Thornton is always avail to ask questions and responds within 24 hours. Overall recommend.
Homeworks are done in Aleks, only few questions (with multiple parts, we're talking 8-11 per question). 3 tests & 1 final; all 4 weight 50% overall grade but he does replace your lowest test score with your final exam's score. All exams' questions are from the quiz, do them and you'd be guaranteed an easy A.
Professor Thornton shapes the online class very well- if you miss an online meeting for class the modules are very organized to help you teach yourself what you missed. Do the homework! Some of the test questions are the same. would take again, I have struggled with math forever and this was the first class wherei felt like I knew what I was doing.
he is an amazing professor. You will love his classes.
Prof Thornton is a nice professor, Class was 14 weeks so it was fast paced, he just goes over the lessons pretty quickly which is not my type of learning method and sometimes he won't go over something that is vital for the unit, He is straightforward with due dates though and homework assigned is easy/mid and he is up to date!!
He's a great professor and will answer questions thoroughly, and will help with homework questions if you're stuck. If you do your homework, you will ace the tests.
Easy A if you just do the homework. Attendance isn't mandatory and has online interactive lectures, textbook provided, and tests are basically recycled homework problems. 1 page of notes allowed, cam on for tests but nothing wild. Never showed up to class once besides when it'd be test day and still passed easy. This man is doing God's work fr!! 🙏
Thornton is very professional, but also cares about your success. The way that the lectures are set up is very straightforward, and the homework assignments are between 10-20 questions per lesson; although there are quite a few assignments, you have the opportunity to learn through a "help me solve this" type of system, so passing is presumed.
