Brandon is a pretty good professor, he's just a bit new. I think after maybe a few more quarters he'll get his game down and be a really good professor. He really wants the class to learn the different theories in a way that we can discuss them intelligently. I recommend him because I think he's really passionate about the subject and u to learn.
He is a really good teacher. At times he can get a little confused but he will always be very thorough with his explanations. He makes sure that you understand both perspectives of economics. If you show up to class everyday and pay attention, you will do good. Reading the book helps a lot but is not necessary to pass to class.
Brandon Unti is a great teacher. He makes sure everyone is on the same page which can be little annoying because he has to repeat lectures. But he is great!!
BJ is a very helpful, and passionate person. Cares about what his students think and always asks for their opinion. I highly recommend him as a teacher. You will learn and have fun at the same time
Classes can be super boring: PowerPoint, goes off on tangents. Do your readings, take notes, and participate and you should be fine. He is a highly opinionated sassy teacher, so be prepared for that as well.
He was a great teacher he is very opinionated and states what he thinks. Sometimes he can go a little over board on his tangents but other than that he is great. Listen, take good notes, do the homework study the homework and study guides and you'll get a A.
Awesome teacher, my favorite thus far at Bellevue College. The dude is smart and understanding, and he really develops a good relationship with the classroom.
Took him for Micro and Macro really good teacher. Helpful and really nice. Would help you if needed. Homework and quizzes are easy as well.
great teacher, probably the best I have had at this school. Very good at what he does and challenges you do ask questions and challenge the readings. I recommend taking him, he is incredibly good
Bj is a great teacher and friend. He always offers to take questions, and his lectures are REAL! Not straight from a book or power point. Gives an assignment on Thursday and it is due Tuesday, alternating tests and assignments. He gives real life examples that help students relate the terms. I have never taken a business class and I still succeeded
He is a great teacher and knowledgeable. He wants his students learn and succeed.
BJ expect students have independent and critical thinking about economics, but not note-taking . So it's no help to memorize all the stuff without understanding. There're 3 EXAMS, tricky questions, hard to get good score. Don't worry, he will provide chance to make up and there're extra points. Textbook is required and really worth to read.
Fantastic professor, is so passionate and opinionated about economics. Requires students to actually think and comprehend and form opinions, brings a lot of current events and politics into the class. I would most certainly take a class with BJ again, I legitimately enjoy coming to class each day.
Show up to class, engage in discussions, use the posted reviews for quizzes and exams, and you'll do fine. Brandon presents a refreshing view in economics and really makes you think about more than just the equations, he inspires you to apply it in the real world. Took him for both Econ201 & 202. Would take him for more classes if he taught any.
Very passionate, and really seems to enjoy active dialog with students. He encourages critical thinking and respects differing views. Very few assignments! So better make sure they count. Study, ask questions, hit him up during office hours if unsure about something, for god's sake read the textbook, and show up to class. Do this andyou'll be fine.
Definitely one of the hardest classes I have taken & would not take him again although a lot of people did like him. Concepts were confusing, a number of students failed his class and others got a C. You have to really impress him for you to pass, do great on hw & exams.. other than that take someone else.
I took Microeconomis and macroeconomics. His lecture is connected real life. I have learned a lot about economics in real world. I would take his class again. 2-3 homework, 3-4 quiz. He gave you some quiz questions, before quiz so, if you study these question, then easy to have full point. Mid exam was hard but final is not to hard.
Great Professor, lectures are not boring. He does curve your midterm and test(depends how poorly the class does) Be prepared for weekly short quizzes, which will help your grade(he puts reviews on canvas a week before quiz, ) there's weekly short hw and of course he gives a lot Extra Credits opportunities !
BJ was my favorite professor at Bellevue College - I have a lot of respect for him & he teaches material not normally covered by other Econ professors. There are not many pts in this class, but there was extra credit available, & BJ does his best to explain things clearly & to help any students who may be struggling. I highly recommend this class!
BJ cares about his students and his subject and it's obvious. He is passionate about the subject and willing to help out if you seek it. Its a very tough class, so make sure you are paying attention. Lots of reading, lots of hard work and commitment to get a good grade.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is very inspirational and he teaches the course in a way that makes you want to change the economy. He is hilarious and sometimes brings his dog which is cute. Tests are not tough and it's not an easy A. Just don't skip and do your readings and you'll pass.
passionate & great professor. He gives real life examples that help students understand the economic concepts, and he also expects students to have independent thinking about the economics. There are 2 exams, 5 homework and 4 quizzes. Exams are not easy, but you will get a fair grade if you are well prepared. The exam and quiz reviews are helpful.
Great guy and funny. He is really helpful and his insights are really empowering, He is dope.
BJ was one of the best professors that I have had at BC. Micro and macro is not going to be an easy class no matter who you take it with but BJ is very fair and really fun to be a part of his class
As an instructor he knew what he was teaching. However, he has a clear agenda in the way he approaches subjects and ideas, particularly in politics. You either have to agree or be a very tolerant person to enjoy this class. In the first half of the quarter class time was spent majorly on economics, the second half was seeing it work in society.
BJ is amazing! Some of the lectures and reading are a little dense, but I blame that on the subject (macroeconomics). He does a great job making sure everyone understands the material. If you do't get it, he'll make time for office hours. He also has the cutest dog ever (Monkey) who he occasionally brings to class. You'll pass if you show up & read
Took his on-campus class before. Really like it. But online course sucks. No lectures, just text.
The professor was teaching the class from a different state, but responded within a day or so to questions. A bit more difficult than ECON201 because it was summer. You will read a lot in a text book and PDF's provided. Test were not timed (good thing). As long as you do the readings and the homework you should get an A or B.
Ready for tons of reading. To get a good score for the exams, working extra hard on your assignments, quizzes, hw and discussions is the only way. There are 2 exams. First one consists of multiple choices and short answers/essays while the second one is all about thoughtful essays. Openstax ebook.0
Brandon's class is very laid back and he is funny and a good guy, but boy does he inject his personal political views into many of his lectures. We had a discussion once where he outlined his utopia of a communist style country. His lectures are decent and homework is light which is a plus, but be ready for a large critique of capitalism.
He is a great choice Economics, he is very knowledgeable. He grades a bit tough, but it is very fair. You will not be disappointed by taking his class. He really cares about what he is teaching. He really is heavy on teaching Keynesian economics though rather Adam Smith, but to each there own I guess.
Best instructor ever!!!!! Learned to pay tax Illegally........... Can't wait for next quatr. with him. I really like this guy! teacherlove
This guy is AWESOME. He's my favorite professor at Bellevue. To do well in this class, you definitely have to care. Fortunately, this dude will make you care. If you want to leave class a changed person, take a class from BJ
BJ is a great teacher, he makes his class super laid back and he's a really funny guy that brings his dog sometimes to class. However, his tests are really hard and you really really have to pay attention to the class or else you won't pass. You miss more than 2 classes and it's an F. Also you gotta pay tax in this class... great teacher!
Fear grader smarty pants Don't try to prove him wrong BJ knows what he is talking about because sometimes class can turn into debate hall. I hope I can get into his class next quarter.
BJ makes my heart feel. I left class everyday with something that I talked about with my parents or friends. He is fair and gives you every opportunity to do good. I would recommend him.
I loved taking Macro Economics with BJ, what an amazing human being! I would highly recommend that everyone should take a class lead by him. He really pushes you to think critically about yourself and about the world, Wonderful.
Very passionate about what he teaches and knowledgeable about the subject. Gives very clear examples for each topic. Always open for questions. Huge amount of hw and weekly readings but offers an abundance of xtra credit participation to make up for low grades. HW can time-consuming but teaching staff/sections are helpful. Exams are multiple-choice
BJ is very fun human being, he will teach you much more than just microeconomics. I am loving everyday of my time in his class, he is very open about discussing different opinions. class is very laid back and lectures are fun and interactive. Good person and teacher have met so far in my academic career. I will recommend him to everyone enjoyslearn
Best professor I've ever had. If you're going to take economics, definitely take him. He is funny and articulated, and will challenge you to think critically. 2 exams @ 25% each (You will get an A if you do the review provided), 4 HWs @ 5% each, 4 quizzes @ 5% each (questions released beforehand), 8% attendance, 2% in "tax" (volunteer work).
Taking this class with BJ made my BC experience awesome, I have never met a professor who is so dedicated on teaching econ, he can explain econ to even monkey. I can't wait to take other classes with him. Worth money and effort.
Brandon really is a good professor, always very happy to take questions and answers with clarification. Very accessible outside of class, (office hours, emails and after class). Gives extra credit and cares about student success. I will highly recommend him anyone taking micro economics.
BJ is ultimately my favorite teacher! He cares so much about his students and wants them to do really well. He's quick with his e-mail responses and is always willing to answer my questions during class! Class discussion is fun as long as everyone participates. A teacher like him should be teaching at a higher level school. BC is lucky to have him
This teacher goes on rants and is a total snowflake... he talks down at people who work hard and says rich people are evil. he is not a nice teacher and should leave his politics outside the classroom the best about him is he brings his dog to class
His lectures were so amazing that you actually wanted to go to class to listen. He knows the subject very well so he has an answer for almost any question. The midterm and final are pretty straightforward. He gives you a study guide without about 25 topics to understand and he'll explain every concept in class. The best professor I've had so far.
Brandon is a pretty great teacher. The lectures were boring but he made them bearable thanks to his extremely dry humor. He's smart and clearly knows his stuff, and makes Econ pretty easy if you pay attention to his powerpoints. Hates and rails on Capitalism for the entire quarter, and clearly favors Marxist systems, but overall it's a chill class.
I took BJ in Econ 201, he was truly an amazing professor, he made lectures funny, and enjoyable, he also sometimes brought his dog in. The Sapling homework was difficult, but if you take good notes and read the textbook it makes it a little bit easier. Generally one to two chapters a week with two assignments . Show up, take good notes.
BJ is the best instructor I've ever had at BC. He actually loves what he is teaching. He is so inspirational with amazing lectures, which makes you love to learn ECON even if it was not your major! He has reviews for each quiz or test, so you will be able to prepare well for them! Getting ready to read, but you will love this class anyways
BJ is the best professor at Bellevue College--He's honestly too good for this place. If you don't take his class you're a damn fool.
BJ is a great teacher. Show up to class, do the homework, and take notes and you'll do great. He approaches econ in a very interesting viewpoint.
Great instructor making a real difference in the world. Everyone should take this class. He provides a different perspective on society.
Videos and readings were VERY long making it hard to enjoy learning all the info. There's also so much to study for each quiz and exam, and the study guides are pretty different from them so make sure you take good notes of everything. Homework was a bit tough. Quizzes and exams count for most of your grade (Also no extra credit)
BJ is a very passionate teacher, I truly enjoyed his lectures. Homework was due every other week, the other weeks were in class quizzes. He provides study guides, make good use of them and you will NOT have any surprises during the quiz. 2% of the grade is a tax requirement for volunteer work. This was my favorite class so far at BC, just take him.
This class was one of my favorites at BC. His lectures were always interesting and the homework and tests weren't too bad as long as you were paying attention in class. I enjoyed coming to this class. If you want to take micro econ take him!
BJ is a great teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures and would recommend to anyone who enjoys diving deeper into Econ. However, his tests are very hard and tricky so be prepared to study.
Teacher made homework due at 11:30. Missed the dealine a ew times. He does not post homework to canvas calendar so it makes it hard to keep track.
Amazing lectures. Hes chill but that can sometimes be a bit boring during his lectures. Anybody that gives him a bad rating definitely just lazy af and wants a free A.
I personally had a difficult time with the class. I think it was because there are only two tests, and your grade is pretty much determined by those tests. A lot of the learning is based on the textbook readings. Professor Unti is a good professor, but be prepared for difficult course material.
The absolute worst teacher I'v ever had in my entire life. Don' expect to learn anything unless it' on your own. Don' bother taking his classes if you want to actually learn something. It was basically a self-taught course. I have to give professors who are bad at teaching some credit when they are helpful. Unfortunately, Prof. Brandon is neither.
Econ 202 looks exactly like 201 and thats not a good thing. Unless youre able to sit through his hours of lectures youll be on your own for the entirety of this quarter. Also, its a very one sided critique of capitalism. If youre going to cover economic systems, cover them all fairly and list pros and cons. One side was covered in better light
The teacher doesn't have class meetings, instead it's just a whole bunch of videos. Nothing other than book beating and brain-skewering tests. I have read enough text to take all the words apart and rewrite half the library of congress! PAIN. Would NOT take again, steer clear.
Was excellent at inspiring interest in the subject, made me think in ways I hadn't before about the economy and society in general.
The lectures are awful, his phone is constantly going off and half the time it doesn't seem like he knows what to say, they are unacceptable. When I asked Brandon for help on a question, he literally took a week to respond and only sent me the answer with no explanation. I learned more from the textbook than from Brandon. Terrible professor.
I believe that anyone who truly puts their effort into teaching a class has redeemable qualities as a professor. Brandon has none. He makes his students buy the ability to even take tests online through another website. These test are not only not his own, but are awfully worded, and even one missed attempt out of 20 or 30 q's is 10% of your grade.
Lectures are poor, does not help when you ask for it, grades unfairly on FRQs, very focused on socialism, AVOID.
Brandon gave no feedback all year to the students all year, all his class material and tests can be found online. He invests zero time into the students, and never seemed to care at all. Provided no feedback on any submitted assignments.
The class overall is manageable; you can end with an A as long as you do the readings and assignments. However, once you reach the end of the quarter, the final (which is worth 30% of your grade) will be what kills your chances of retaining the A. The grading criteria for the final was unclear and unfair; it is what dropped my grade from an A.
Each week there are few points available which I always received max points for, however, the midterm and final were insanely tough compared to his past grading. I do not understand how I could get max points on so many other essay assignments but get torn apart on both the midterm and final essay questions. Expect max points weekly until you test.
He’s awful. He has barely any assignments and the tests are a heavy weight. He does you dirty in the end with this rigorous grading on his exam essay questions. He also made his final multiple choice impossible to pass.
If you take his class in person, he's great. If you take it online, it's tough since you just teach yourself. He posts prerecorded lectures but you're better off reading the textbook. Tests are way harder than assignments. Overall it's manageable, just not a "great" class. But you can tell that he's passionate about economics and that's admirable.
He was a great professor. He truly cared about the subject and always enticed us into caring about it as well. His finals reflected what we had learned and measured what was taught.
Awsome professor. Class isn't easy, but he will be more than happy to meet up with you and go over questions. He is also very kind and passionate about what he teaches, and if you show him that you work hard in class, he will consider that. Great teacher! ... I recommend him but put in the work!
I lost 30% in one day
Life-changing class. You will come out with an entirely different perspective on economics and the world. Really chill guy and regularly brings his dog, "Monkey", to class. 10/10
I took macroeconomics as an online class and I think it would have been better in person. The professor is passionate about what he teaches and we can feel it. There is a lot to read and about two quizzes each week. I feel his lecture are helpful to really catch what is explained in the book.
This professor is good but I wish he was more involved. The class was started and ended without any notable interactions with him. Additionally the final was graded a little harsh which is contrary to the rest of the quarter where he is a very lenient grader. Overall the material gets across and is learned which is the point.
The final exam essay portion was very harshly graded for unclear reasons. Dropped my grade 8% and barely got away with an A. You might not get an A because of how unclear the grading is for the final. Be wary of the final
I took this teacher for both macro and micro, great teacher.Good with emails. However exams heavy and can tip your grade. one midterm multi choice and a final with multi and essay. He grades okay on the essay but the rest of the weekly quizes and assignments are easy to do.
Professor BJ Unti does not provide clear guidance or feedback on essays. I received a 72% grade on a mid-term essay with no feedback. When I asked why, he didn't respond. It's lazy and unfair for a professor to not give clear and adequate instruction or feedback especially when a student is just trying to understand what they could do better.
Run don't walk! away from this teacher. You could get 100% on everything but if you do poorly on one of the 2 test...you are doomed. One mistake will ruin your grade and all the hard work you put in during the quarter. I have maintained a perfect GPA and now the max I can get in this class is like an 85%. If you need to transfer he is not your guy.
Radically biased. Pushes Marxist theory in the opening of his class. If
Gave 30/40 on final exam, no feedback, dropped grade by like a full letter. Unless you know some secret writing strategy never take this dude not worth it.
Online course. The professor does not engage with us outside of the first and last week. Assignment due every week. Either answering questions based on the reading/lecture or a multiple choice quiz. It was an easy class to do online. Easy grader online as well. Not a bad professor but just okay. I'm sure it is better in person
Having a class be graded 30% on homework, 10% on discussions, and 60% on 2 exams is a rough curve. You don't do well on 1 exam and you'll be pressured to make sure you manage on the final. The average on the final exam was a 62% or a 15.5/25. It is 25 multiple choice questions with 6 choices for each question. Good luck. Make sure you study.
The tests can be punishing if you don't read carefully. The secret is to strictly only use the information provided in the course materials and readings. People in the reviews complaining about “Marxism” are exaggerating. The course touches on all schools and generally gravitates towards post-Keynesian analysis and MMT.
I feel like I learned a lot. But the tests are a cheap shot to be honest. I spent HOURS reading and filling out the exam reviews by hand to get a 65 on the final. I think the prof is AI paranoid I did not even use AI. He should consider a Cited works assessment against his texts instead of punishing people I could have proved I did the work.
