She was amazing! There were only a couple of online exams and they were open book. You definitely use your book, but buy an online version so you can control + F everything (find). It was easy and she was ALWAYS helpful if you ran into ANYTHING! I loved her. I would take more of her classes. She's also a very uplifting and positive individual.
There are 4 quizzes each 50 questions. She requires TWO textbooks. Rent they physical textbook "Social Problems" (read the pages assigned in this book) from amazon, then rent the EBOOK "Exploring social change"(dont read this book) if you finish the class within a month(which is easy to do) then return the physical textbook for a refund.
The class is very easy and well structured. The grading criteria is based off of 4 quizzes from 2 textbooks throughout the semester. The instructor really knows the material and cares about your success. As long as you do the assigned readings each week, there is no way you couldn't pass this course. I strongly recommend this course to anyone.
This course had no grades other than exams which are based on textbook readings only. There are no lectures, assignments, or interaction with other students. I found this way of teaching difficult, and the B I got in the class hurt my 4.0 GPA. I would say she is a bad teacher, but she didn't even teach. You just read the textbook & take exams.
This was a really easy class. 4 quizzes, no final. Open book. Get the etext of the required books and ctrl+F everything. There are some essay questions though. I always got full points on them by reiterating what was in the text. She grades and responds in a timely fashion, but doesn't want to clarify questions on the quiz questions themselves.
I am on the fence with this class. There are four exams the whole semester, that is literally it. It is all online and the exams are not timed. I received a C, just because i bombed on test and it brought down my entire grade without side work to bring it up. Get the book online so you can find the answers easy!!!
This class was so easy peasy! Even though there are only 4 exams, they weren't bad at all. I didn't ready any of the book, I just cracked it open when it came time for the exam. They're obviously open book and not timed. The lowest grade I got was an 87%. So it's way easy to pass this class without much effort. It's actually an interesting class.
Easiest course I've ever taken, and not because I'm a genius. There are 4 tests, 1 of which is 9 essay questions (easy 100%). Questions are copy/pasted from the book, just Ctrl+F (buy online) and you've got the answers. No other assignments! Videos/articles for test questions, 3 hrs max. Easy tests + interesting subject matter TAKE THIS CLASS
very clear teacher. Emails back fast.
This class was very good. 4 quizzes worth 100 questions. Open book (get the e-book) and you can use the videos and articles. Essay questions were not bad. Got full credit for all of them. 100 point essay at the end that was not hard as well. She also responds to e-mails very quickly. Overall take this class for an upper divisions elective.
This online class wasn't too demanding with few deadlines throughout. Each unit had a quiz worth 100 points which were easy if you have the book (So get it)! Final paper is also easy if you take the time to do it. There are many readings and videos to watch but each unit there is plenty of time to do them. I would definitely recommend this class.
There are 4 exams worth 100 points each (multiple choice, fill-in-blank, short essay questions). Buy the e-books. One paper-100 points. Plenty of time to finish assignment. Fast grader (2 days tops). Love her. She responds back to email very quickly. there is no +/- curve unfortunately. She is very clear and and helpful.
for the 05/01/2016 rating. (Mine). She apparently does do the +/-.
4 tests over the readings. Get the online books if possible. Rented the "Social Problems" book for very cheap. Four tests and a short interview paper. Online tests are somewhat long and most times ask very detailed questions, but you have unlimited time and can save your tests and come back.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! The material is not hard at all, and very interesting. You get 5 grades total, 4 are quizzes worth 100 points and one paper worth 100 points too. All the answers to the quizzes are on the books (get them!) and paper is super easy to write. She's understanding, helpful, and not a tough grader at all! Class was fun and easy!
This class is super easy, but you need to get the textbooks & you need to read the articles she posts & watch the videos she links. Every question on the tests is answered directly in the books. She gives you lots of time to complete these so there isn't the usual pressure that comes along with most online classes. She gets back to emails quickly
Was there much learning? Maybe not directly. Its fairly common knowledge for a level 300 class. I would get the e-book if you can , makes quizzes easier than the book ( which i used and still got 90+ on every exam). The tedtalks were pretty informative. Not exactly sure where the chili pepper rating is coming from?
I took this class Summer - B Term and finished the class in a little over 2 weeks. Get the E-Book, makes tests super easy. You are only graded on tests, there are no other assignments and no extra credit. Tests are untimed and you can stop and resume them later. I received 90+ on all tests. No +/- grading.
Best online class and professor ever!!! The class is interesting, she responds quickly and gives a good feedback. 4 exams and 2 mini essays
She really cares for her students. If you look at the material and do the assignments the class will be easy. I highly recommend her! Took the class online and got an A+. She is accommodating and grades very quickly. Cannot recommend her enough.
I took C session. No discussion board. Four 30-40 question quizzes, multiple choice, true/false, essay, and short answer. You can save/restart anytime, questions appear one at a time. One 4 page interview essay and one 1 page essay. Answers emails right away and very helpful.
Super easy class, the quizzes are dense though so don't put off starting them. She gives you plenty of time to take them and you can stop/start them and have open notes. Brandy was super helpful and replied to emails quickly. As long as you put thought into it, she gives you 100%. She seems to want her students to share their own thoughts & ideas!
Brandy is awesome. She really wants her students to succeed. There's 4 tests, but they do require that you do the readings and watch the videos. However, theres no time limits and she's pretty lenient on the due dates. There's one paper and a one page, 200-point reflection at the end of the semester. Take this class with her if you want an easy A
This class is an easy if you buy the ebook and control find everything on there. I would say the third quiz is the "hardest" one, only because it is 5 questions 3 of them are essay questions and two of them are short answer. The rest is a breeze!
I would take this professor anyday
Session C class - 4 quizzes and 1 reflection paper. Quizzes are 50 questions except for one of them is a short answer/essay of about 15 questions. Professor Brandy truly cares about her students is willing to give extensions if you reach out to her. She is extremely understanding and wants her students to succeed.
TAKE HER! 3 easy quizzes, an easy essay on a book, and a 1-page final paper. Offered extra credit, and accepts late work. Get the pdf of the book so you can use it during your quizzes. The workload is super light!
It's a great class. A little heavy on readings. Tests are pretty easy and are kind of "easter egg hunts" in the text so no big deal. Lots of essay questions and short answers in the tests. She's really flexible about due dates, but I had no problem getting it all done early and I'm a single mom and I work. Really interesting articles and TED talks.
Brandy is a solid professor. 352 started a new textbook this session so there was no pdf. 4 quizzes consisting of MC, short answer, and essay. The essay questions can be a little challenging. The topic is interesting but can be somewhat touchy if you're politically sensitive. She is very flexible and allows you to turn in late if needed.
Professor McMahon is great at what she does, she always puts students into consideration. She's super chill about due dates and lets you complete everything whenever you want. SOC 352 was an easy A, one quiz each week, open book, open note, open everything.
So glad I took this class instead of intro to soc. The readings are super interesting and even though I took it online I could tell she cares about her students. The class is readings with 3 multiple choice online tests (un-timed) plus an essay test on one of the units. She also gives extra credit. Def a course to take.
She was a great professor, she gives you extra time to complete assignments if you need it. Her exams were long but you have time to save and go back. i would recommend taking her class. she only has two papers due and they are really easy prompts as well
This online class is super easy since it is only 4 tests. However, there are up to 40 points extra credit you can get if you do a one page paper after every test. She accepts late work for the whole semester with no penalty.
Professor McMahon was always easy to reach outside of class, and she accepts late work with no penalty. 4 tests that are open-note, open-book. If you can get the textbook online I'm sure you could command+f your way into an A on every test. There's also tons of opportunity for extra credit. Even though I never met her I still felt like she cared!
Really nice, caring, and responds to emails quickly. The tests are time consuming but she gives you a lot of time to do them so even if you didnt read, you still have time to look through the book. Tests are multiple choice, select all, and fill in the blank. She accepts late work as long as it's turned in by the end of the semester!
4 tests (3 multiple choice and 1 free response). Most of the answers can be found online, but if you have the PDF of the book it'll help. No +/- grading. It's open book, not timed or proctored. The fourth test only had 27 questions, so be extra careful and double check that the answers are correct. No extra credit.
Nicest professor you'll find at ASU. If you need extra time she is always accomodating. Do NOT slack on the quizzes. Get a good grade on each, can do them whenever even at the very beginning of the semester to get the whole class done and out of the way. You're only graded on those so very important to get at least a 90. Did not give extra credit.
Only 6 assignments - 4 quizzes with MC and essay questions and 2 papers. One was an interview and write-up and one was a reflection of the class. The books are a must as the quiz questions directly stem from them. Show effort and spend time on the assignments and you'll be fine. The quizzes are long but can be stopped and restarted.
One of the easiest classes i've taken at ASU, just 4 tests that i didn't study for. 3 multiple choice tests, and one free response that took a bit more research while i was taking it. Just make sure your answers are right since it's not timed.
There were only 5 items submitted for grading - 4 tests and 1 short paper. The tests took between 2-4 hours to complete. They must be finished in one sitting, and you cannot move back and forth through the questions. Really, really tough class - definitely my most difficult at ASU.
Do the work to your best ability and you will get an A. She cares about her students a lot! She accepts late work as long as you message her. We had 4 exams and one super easy 3 page paper. No apa restricts or references. Highly recommend
This class was great because I felt that I left with valuable information provided in weekly readings; these readings were not difficult ones and the weekly assignments were not even close to overbearing. You will not regret taking SOC 241 taught by Brandy McMahon.
EASY A!!! Want a class you want to be able to breathe in & STILL learn take this class. She was very lenient but the videos and articles she had us read & write about were so INTERESTING and the assignments were so simple that I actually got to reflect on the material I learned! She responds FAST and is AWESOME. 1st online class I felt involved in.
McMahon was the best! She was very flexible and allowed her students to take extra time on assignments if needed. There were six modules and each module had an assignment, extra articles to read, and an exam (20ish Q's worth 100 points). The exam consisted of MC, short answer, essay Q's, T/F, and fill in the blank. Reading the book is a must.
Professor McMahon was the BEST! I never do ratings on my professors but I just had to give her a rating and let you know she is an amazing teacher. She was very flexible with her deadlines and made sure you thrived in the course. Her course consisted of 6 modules with a quiz and an assignment for each module. Her assignments were easy and fun.
Super easy class! Sometimes it can be a lot of reading but she grades really easy so just read what you have to. There's a weekly quiz and assignment every week that are easy but can be time consuming. You will most likely pass this class with an A with minimal effort.
She's nice and you can turn in late work for no deductions. 1 quiz and 1 assignment per week. Asgnmts are super easy but quizzes have a lot of short answers & essay questions, super time consuming. Buy an online book to controlF answers bc its a lot of assigned dry reading. Thought this class would be easy bc of the reviews on here, not that easy
Very laidback about due dates, cares about her students' wellbeing. Responds to emails quickly. Assignments allow you to actually think about what you learned and are simple; APA not required. Tests are not timed, but very long. Use the textbook (new edition worked fine for me), but don't necessarily need to read all of it or take extensive notes.
Given the current pandemic we're currently in, she was very flexible and extended due dates on the assignments and tests. This class is easy as long as you do the readings, the tests are time consuming but not difficult as long as you are knowledgeable of the given material. The weekly assignments were pretty easy as well.
I took this class session A and it was AWFUL! There is a module each week including an assignment and a quiz. The assignment is normally pretty easy but is between a page or two. But the quiz is KILLER! There are essay questions in them, sometimes half of the quiz is 5 essay questions (5 paragraph min.) and 5 short answers.
In 1st class that she taught at ASU & omg her class was terrible! Started our 7 wk class with an intro db & then told us to take a week off to ease into the course. Then she expected you to read a book in 1 week and then take a test on the *whole* book. Took during BLM protests in 2020 & she didnt address it, even skipped ch on race. Avoid!!!
EASY It was an iCourse so all online and I really liked it. You get an assignment and quiz each week on the assigned material. Quizzes can take awhile w/ essay/short answer questions. Shes easygoing with due dates and shes nice. Material is interesting, taking her other class next semester!
You'll need to do marathon quizzes but there are no time limits. Very fair and flexible when it comes to submitting assignment by due dates.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR. this was the 2nd class of hers ive taken (icourses) and theyre my favorite. theres usually 1 assignment a week and a quiz every few weeks. she is very laid back and understands were busy students. she also talks about current events. she cares!! i hope she has more classes i can take. 10/10
This teacher is very accommodating and wants to help everyone pass. I was able to work ahead a bit on the module, which I really appreciate because I could work around my busy schedule. The course content was very interesting. The quizzes were essay heavy, so it helps if you like to write.
Wasn't "easy" but I didn't scream... a lot. Few chapters each week, light weekly assignment, weekly quiz that took about 1.5-2 hours. I'd take her again though.
A few chapters and a Quiz every week. Easy assignments, interesting material. I would take this professor again.
BEST online professor I have EVER worked with. She is amazing- VERY lenient with deadlines. She does accept late work and she is very forgiving as she knows how busy college students are. Coursework isn't too bad! It IS a lot of reading and interpretation if you want to excel. But overall, it's worth it to take a class by Professor McMahon. 10/10.
idk who needs to hear this but 5 short response and 2 essay questions isn't a "quiz" quizzes are all open book/open note, but no outlines, powerpoints, or lectures to give you a foundation for studying. weekly quizzes will take you 2 hours to complete. assignments have due dates, but no late penalties. good prof overall, just... a lot.
She was very inconsistent when it came to deadlines. She would push back deadlines, but if you needed more time after that, it was on you. Told me to withdraw from the class instead of giving me a couple of hours to complete an assignment. If you email her before a deadline, do not expect an answer until after. Doesn't understand ASU policies.
I've had the pleasure of taking her class. She accepts late work. Open note untimed quizzes which are long but manageable along w/ easy short assignments that are creative. Email her for any questions you might have as she is easily accessible.
Four assignments, four quizzes leading up to final paper. First quiz took me three hours to complete! Textbook is required for quizzes! Quizzes contain t/f, short answer, essay answer, written answer and multiple choice.
Assignments have due dates to help keep you on track but all work is accepted late until the end of the course. Offers an extra credit assignment at the end of the course.
Super easy class. she gives an extra credit assignment but i didnt feel comfortable doing it since it was a YouTube video I had to make. Weekly assignments are pretty easy and it's not overwhelming. She doesn't deduct any points if you turn in anything late.
Out of all the professors I've had in my past three years, she is by far my absolute favorite! She has hilarious and caring announcements every week. She is open to taking creative liberty on assignments and allows all assignments to be turned in at the end of the term. She truly loves what she teaches and it makes a fun atmosphere (even online!).
I really liked that she did not give due dates. She treated us like adults and not children. She understands that we all have other things going on in life as well as school. Great class. I would take any of her classes!
Even though I never needed to reach out to this prof for anything, she seemed like a very caring individual and was always open to reaching out, answering emails, and texts. There are only one or two assignments each week, so there isn't too much to be graded on, but she does offer an extra credit assignment near the end of the semester.
Reading the textbook was a chore but Professor McMahon was really nice, clearly invested in her field and gave great feedback. Her class is really structured to get you to think about things and she's really encouraging in your journey
The course was very engaging and I really enjoyed it. There was a lot of reading but it was honestly pretty interesting and useful to learn about. Professor Brandy was super nice and helpful, always there to answer any questions. She truly created a very lovely course and I would recommend it to anyone! Also no set due dates, and easy grading!
Dr. McMahon is very inspiring and kind. Despite reading the book "Way of Social Change, " You Tube videos and interesting articles, she also, gave us optional articles or movies to read or watch that she thought were interesting. It was an online class, quizzes every week and an assignment, very manageable. I would 100% take her again!
Great professor very understanding, caring, but fair. I can honestly say that out of all of the online courses I have taken with ASU hers is the first that truly gave me the flexibility I need for my life. She does a great job of making the material interesting. I would absolutely take her course again.
Easy class but quizzes are pretty hefty. Accepts all late assignments. Offers an extra credit assignment where you have to record a five minute video.
Will not take off points for late work. Extremely easy assignments. Tests are not timed and open note. Honestly did all the work in the last week of class and ended with an A+, I really don't recommend that though. Each test can take up to an hour due to some questions needing three paragraphs. Easy A.
This class and professor in my opinion makes for a super easy A. One assignment and one quiz each week. It's open note/book and all the answers are in the textbook. She has a video every week explaining what the expectations are for the week which is very helpful. The class topics are very interesting as well. Would take again!
Professor McMahon made SOC 241 an enjoyable and straightforward course. She is the most flexible professor I've ever had with late work. The course consists of 7 weekly quizzes and assignments based on the content of the week. The one thing to be aware of is the length of the quizzes. They often have essay prompts that can take awhile.
2 things due each week, but all late work is acceptable up until the last day of class. Easy quizzes that are open note and book. Unlimited time to take the quizzes as well. Each assignment was different in what you had to do, but all pretty easy and manageable. Pretty responsive, but not on her email every day.
I loved taking Professor Brandy McMahon's class!! She accepts late work until the very last day of class. You could do all your work in the last week of the course, though, I do not recommend that. The quizzes are long, especially when you have essay questions that need to be 3 paragraphs. But good class overall! Very interesting!
Brandy was a great professor! She accepts work up until the last day of class. Although, I would not recommend doing that since some quzzies can take a while. She's great with feedback and always posts announcements.
Easily one of the best professors I have taken. I loved her class and she is very understanding and helpful. She accepts late work, and offers no penalty because in her words "Life Happens". Recommend this class to everyone.
Overall easy class. I would recommend this professor.
There aren't any lectures, the class is based on reading. There is one assignment and one test every week. It took me hours and hours to do the reading every week but I liked the material. The tests are open note with multiple choice, a few short answers, and an essay. I wish I could have taken this class with her in person shes very sweet + caring
One quiz a week and you can find all the answers in the textbook (literally Ctrl+F). Also one assignment each week that takes not even 30 min if that. Super nice and you can email her about anything. Extra credit opportunity at the end of the course. Super easy GPA booster, would definitely recommend!
Professor McMahon was a great professor. You can tell she loves what she teaches about. She wants her class to be enjoyable and it shows in the course work. There is a quiz and an assignment each week. Every week the assignment is different and is very engaging. She is a very easy grader. I would definitely take her again!
overall really easy class i finished the whole course in a week. Im still waiting on her to grade my stuff but i would say that the assignments are really easy
She is a really nice professor; she accepts late assignments, but try not to get carried away, as there are assignments due every week. You learn a lot in her class, just keep track of all assignments, and you should be fine.
Barely any original content. Assignments lacked creativity, one of them was literally "write quiz questions". Zero lectures -- all quizzes based on the book. I got an A on all the quizzes but they did take me about 2 hours. Invest in online textbook for CTRL-F. No discussion posts, zero interaction with other students. Interesting but lifeless.
There is an open-note test and an assignment every week. The test takes a while because there is an essay and short answer questions, but concepts are easy to understand. Mainly a lot of looking up phrases in the textbook to answer questions. Late work is allowed, and it is clear that the professor is very passionate about what she teaches.
Very nice professor. A test and an assignment each week. The tests will take about 2 hours. The assignments were quick and fun. She accepts any late work with no penalty. Extra credit assignment at the end of course.
