Funny professor who is very informal and friendly. His lectures are clear and concise. Provided one pays attention and attends lecture regularly their should be no major problems.
I took Dr. Chapman during the the summer. He is an intelligent, funny prof. who really cares. If you need help, he is there for you. He is also very fair. If you pay attention to his lectures and study his notes, you will do well.
He is a great professor in chemistry. He explains in detail and makes the class interesting and funny too. If you listen to his lectures and understand the topic you'll be fine. He is fair in grades too.
Hes awesome..i like him very much ..im lookin forward 2 take him in my next class ..hopefully i'll take him for every chemistry class.. very intelligent guy..he knows his stuff..:)
He's an ok professor, a good dry sense of humor and very hyper (due to caffeine pills his taking). Lecture-wise he tends to beat around the bush and confuses the students, but he is very fair and helpful if you ask questions. He knows his stuff fairly well and do not look down on people.
Very good teacher. He knows his material & teachers very well. I would recommend him to anyone. The ONLY problem is that in the final he did not put the important material that he emphasized during the semister! BLAH! I got a D for this class :( but he's still a good teacher. Change my grade please!
he's confussing at all times though he's very considerate. the tests are easy. he has a sense of humor at all times. take this class if you have an idea of what chemistry is about and don't take it if your still lost because you will not learn anything from him.
cool guy. very smart, funny. knows his stuff very well. i hope he teaches chm140 or w.e it is, i want to take him again for all of my chm classes.
Professor Chapman taught Chem II at night during the summer and he obviously hated every minute of it. He frequently tried to intimidate us by threatening us with quizzes. Once he even said, "I'm going to slaughter you [the class] on the test." During the lab he spent most of his time on the Internet. He's a smart guy, but not a good teacher.
he's a very arrogant teacher. he threatened to slaughter us on a test and he once said he would "make us suffer grade-wise" if we didn't complete an assignment for a lab. during the labs he would surf the internet for the majority of the class. he would also talk down to the class about mistakes on the tests.
Taking Chapman's Chem II class during the summer was torture. He would constantly talk down to us before and after quizzes and tests. It took him forever to hand back quizzes and tests. And when he did he never stapled anything together. He left them on his desk and you had to fight through 20+ students to get it. I was very unhappy with his class.
I took him for general chem I in summer as well Lab. and was my worse nightmare, he could be smart but HORROBLE TEACHER...in the test each question ( word problem) is worth 15 to 20 pts. so.. take it from there..if you consider your self to be a chem take him, otherwise choose someone else. I REALLY DO NOT RECOMENDED...
Smart guy, but nightmarish teacher. Talked down to class constantly. Was aggressive with us from the first day. Even worse lab instructor. Didn't do much. Just sat there surfing the internet.
i hope i never have him as a teacher again. he made the class and lab more difficult than they had to be. he didn't explain much before the lab and he usually just sat behind a computer checking out the internet. i didn't like the way that he spoke to the class. he often made ridiculus comments and talked down to the class.
this was the worst class that i have ever taken. it was the longest semester of my life. he made every day in class a nightmare. even worse i had him for lab right after lecture. he once told the class that he would make us suffer grade-wise if we didn't complete a flowchart for a lab. even worse he said he would slaughter us on the first test.
If you're a student who works hard and likes to see your test grades within a reasonable amount of time than don't take Chapman. It took him weeks to grade our first test, which he said he would slaughter us on. He changed his grading policy a couple of times throughout the semester and he kept threatening us with stupid quizzes. So glad it's over.
If I busted people cheating on the first test, I think I'd be a little ticked at the class from that point too. Quizzes were on the syllabus from Day 1. If you want an A for C level work, don't take him. If you want to ACTUALLY LEARN, he's the man. His tests are tough, but if you ask for help, he'll give it. Highly recommended for serious students
Arrogant teacher. Often late for test. He is the worst teacher that I took at Bergen. Avoid him.
if you came to class lazy as most did this summer did you wont get even a b in his class. I tried and face all challenges given by him and came out with great scores. he will help you, he might even hint a answer. you try than he'll try. step up and be responsible, cause i wouldnt want to take chem with anyone else. thankx for your help DR.
THe worst teacher. Always late for class. Made things harder than they should have been. Unclear lab instructions.
well, He is lazy, It is like he is forced to teach. Doesn't help in the lab at all. HArd tests etc.. well, it is your choice
The worst teacher ever! Did you already register? Geez.. You're in a big big big trouble. Drop it right now!! He will lose your test and say that you did not take the test.hmm.. He is the worst teacer as well as the worst person.. Very rude.very lazy. Believe me. You will regret! BCCis a very unfortunate because of him .. He makes students confuse
If class continues to move this slow, I'm gonna have a stroke. Seems like a smart guy. He shows ernest intrest in the subject, and in helping students, but lacks some skill. Still early in the semester though...
The class does move a little slow but it's understandable because some people understand the material rather quickly, and some don't. A smart professor, has a sincere interest in the subject. If you go to him after class he is willing to help. You have to put the effort in if you want to understand the material. Overall good guy, no complaints.
HE'S SO BORING, AND YOU WILL LOSE YOUR INTERST IN CHEMISTRY AT LAST. DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE'S DEFINETELY WORTHLESS TO TAKE.
The class overall is very entertaining and fun. If pay attention and follow the class by reading the book and doing some work..you'll pass. He is a very nice guy who helps you, if you ask him to. He is a fair grader and the tests are ok. If your willing to do some of the work on your own, then take the class.
One of the best teachers that I have had. He is funny, not afraid to make a joke, emphases the important concepts, and leaves out the nonsense. He uses great examples, and will always stop and try to explain a concept in another way if a student is having trouble. His tests are exactly what he lectures on and, are not very difficult, IF you STUD
Very funny guy, really cares, and explains well.
He is one of my best professors at BCC. He is funny and explains the subject very well. He makes the class very interesting with his examples. I highly recommend him.
the class moves slow, but he tries to make sure everyone understands, not just the people that already had chemistry before. chem is hard by itself, so you do have to study. he will drop your worst grade and lab grade helps boost you up. he's a little goofy, but he's really nice. he is available to help you if you need it.
even though his tests are not easy, i think he clearly explains the concepts and things we need. he is very smart. he rarely looks at the book or notes while covering all the stuff we need. i think it is very helpful taking his class.
Dr.Chapman is the best...He knows the material so well making the lectures very clear and interesting. He does have this little habit of ranting on about these so called "soapdishes" which are pretty much a way for him to voice his opinion and to keep the student current and up to date about things going on out there in the world. His test are hard
He is just PERFECT! the FUNNIST! Except: He will return your test results 1 or 2 months later~; will speak so fast; you will have no quizes. You're true instructor will be your text.
do not take him!! he dont know how to grade..
Perfect...
He is a very good professor and you will get the grade you deserve if you are willing to pay attention and do the work. Take him...if you want to have a very interesting (funny) class...and you will not get bored for sure. He is willing to help you 100% during his office hours. It was a pleasure to take his class and wouldnt think twice to take h
the worst at BCC, very hard tests, corny jokes, doesnt feel like teaching!! very disorganized, doesnt give a crap about students... always seems very frustrated!!! no Dont do it, take ramdayal
If u want to take him u have to really study for his class do all the homework and have notes from friends who have already been in that class you basically have to work twice as hard as any other class
He has alot of energy and makes chemistry fun as well as informative and has a great way of explaining and making you understand and gives real world references and uses.
DO NOT TAke HIM, wastes all period making the students guess about 1 or 2 prb on the board. Doesnt care about students at all. makes chm complicated, difficult, never goes over any of the HW prb. want any worse.. come on, please avoid him.
Well, Dr. Chapman is a true college-level professor. He actually explains how chemistry affects our daily lives (Global Warming this semester). His tests are hard; however if you do the work you're supposed to do, you'll do good. Also ask as many questions possible, he will answer all of them.
he is very lazy, i had him for lab, he just gives a brief intruction, then sits on the computer, and the students have to do the rest, a good thing is that you can hand in the pre and post lab wenever. i dont recommend him, unless ur good at chemistry
he is very lazy, can't wait to finish and get dismissed, he thinks everyone is super smart, anf gives difficult tests, not knowing that some people struggle. if you want a good gradde, you have to work your but off...
The tests were tough but fair. He was clear when it came to what to study. Class attendance helps; in-class examples are very similar to test questions. Always willing to help before/after class & during office hours. Empathetic with those students with full course loads or full time jobs. Also, entertaining to listen to. Gotta love the shirts.
he has very bad personality, very conceited, lazy big time!!! doesnnt do much in class, that means u gotta bust ur but on ur own.. doesnt care how class is doing, DO NOt Take this guy!!! unless you have no choice, gud luck!!!
**Students should know how to spell before taking chemistry courses and rating professors.
very fast paced and doesnt really like answering your questions. His tests are hard and you absolutely have to study your ass off for the tests. You probably wont understand what he is saying so make sure your book is your best friend it teaches it better than he does.
At times this professor can best be described as quirky. He irritated me a bit with the constant environmental issues BUT he is well intentioned. Overall, I feel he was very helpful if you approach him and never made me feel like an idiot. I would definitely take him again.
When leaving Chapman's class I feel I've been entertained but not necessarily educated. His helpfulness has declined since the beginning of the semester, now when asked questions he promptly rolls his eyes and is clearly annoyed. When learning difficult things he shows us once and is done. He's entertaining but your tutor will be your teacher!
Prof. Chapman is a GREAT professor. He wants you to work a little hard and create your questions (if you don't study, you won't have questions nor answers) He is always willing to answer ANY question no matter how silly it might be, He makes the class interesting and fun. He is fair in grades. I hope he feels better health-wise. I LEARNED A LOT.
I respect him for focusing on important aspects of chemistry and not trying to "shove" material that will only confuse the student, but as far as been helpful he's useless; no office hours(is it even legal?!),no extra credit (coz it's extra work for him to grade), gives u an attitude when asking a question.
Pr. Chapman has very nice personality, he can be sarcastic, but still willing to answer all students questions. Tests are not hard, no quizzes, no attendance necessary, gives you homework, but it's up to you if you do it or not. Classes are not boring and he entertains you sometimes with his jokes:)exams are based on what was done in class
Not your average Science Prof-great lecture voice and ability to engage the class. Any well thought out Q gets answered or helped. Read, Do HW and come prepared. He is a fair prof. In most cases, the class dictates the tone of the sem'. You have 1 hr. with someone that knows more Chem' then you-make it count and learn something...
STAY THE HELL AWAY! ESPECIALLY FOR CHEM 2 ..... I SHUD OF DROPPED THE CLASS...
Just the best guy, take him! I don't know other courses, but if you take chm I lab, definitely take him. You just write lab reports, he just sees whether you did it or not. not so strict about the procedures, dismiss you early. Some other profs keep you in lab room forever, he doesn't.
He has a good sense of humor. For the lab, don't even think about any other professor, never. Just go for him! Soooo easy. But, for the lecture, I don't think he's the best lecture teacher..
Great proffesor! explains everything really well. His exams are a bit hard but if you study you'll get an A. People don't seen to think that you need to study and thats why they have failed or dropped the class, idiots! Overall a Great Professor.
Had him for lab, take him for the easy A. But be prepared to be sooooo lost in the labs because he dosn't help you. But you can manage it, just get a good partner. All he wants from you is a lab notebook with all your work in it, easy final and thats it.
Much easier than most other CHM teachers, sarcastic jokes, sometimes hard to understand his analagies, no quiz, no attendence, 3 exams and a final.Almost every exam the class average was a 70, chance of getting an A is very slim, but in the end curves everyones grade by 10 points. You have to study, no office hours, and his test have only 5 questions
proffesor is willing to help understand subject
the worst professor ever. studied my ass off for the whole semester. his tests are very hard. no curves. doesn't teach anything in the class and his lecture is incomprehensible.
This is a good man who is so intelligent that it is hard for most people to understand or have a conversation with him. Ask for help - he actually enjoys teaching. He has a unique sense of humor. This was my last science class and it is not my strong spot; he made lab bearable and was very understanding. Do your work and give him a chance!
I enjoyed his sarcastiv jokes they actually made the class fun. The topic is hard and his tests are hard. There is only 5 or 6 questions and he is not very forgiving. class averages were very low and he doesn't curve that much. But, labs are easy.
The exams are not congruent with the material taught. He wants to trick the class and have a low average. He skims the material. He doesn't give proper guidance in lab. I would not recommend this professor if you want to learn Organic Chemistry or get a passing grade.
Organic Chemistry is a hard class regardless who you have. Honestly, he does have some issues with making time for students. But if you really read the textbook, and present questions for him in class, he will see that you're at least trying. He is hilarious, very sarcastic, and awesome during lab. If you wanna have fun learning orgo. He's your guy
Good for Orgo1 and chem, but for some reason in Orgo2 his tests questions did not correlate to the answers. An exam asked is it possible to make a certain product. The answer was no, because the yield is low! The answer contradicts itself. There was a couple questions like that on each exam which consisted of 5 or 6 questions. Talk about lazy.
I absolutely hate his teaching style if you could call it that. He barely teaches leaving you to teach yourself. He spends most of class time (after he arrives late) on sarcastic digressions that have no purpose in the classroom or the lesson. There are also vast inconsistencies in his lessons and the book. Beware! Klarreich is hard but you learn.
Nice professor. If you demonstrate interest in getting decent grades and showing him that you are trying he will help you a bunch. Subject material is tough and he makes it bareable. Overall a good class
Don't bother studying for a test you will see questions that u have never seen before or have anything to do with the material that he have talked in the class
THIS GUY IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER. HE TEACHES, BUT STUDENTS DON'T UNDERSTAND. He give 4 including final. His test is freaking hard. He only gives 5-6 word problems, and for my class first exam average was 33.333. second exam, 50.55. He curves, but just a little bit. His class is very boring, NOT INTERESTING AT ALL. DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE'S AN ASS.
This guy is great! He knows his stuff but sometimes you need to ask many questions to understand a topic. Very laid back and he is hilarious!
he is super cool, willing to help, he cares about his student. i had no interest in CHEM but after this class im going for the next level he is a great professor super easy going just make sure you do all your work and ask when you need help =) take his class !!!!!
He was absolutely the worst teacher I have ever encountered. Not only was he late EVERY single day, he would unprofessionally cuss during his "lectures" and chat with friends while he was supposed to be directing or helping with labs. He didn't explain subjects in terms we understood, but instead went on rants. Don't take him.
Offbeat teaching style with some added dry humor... Let's face it, the fact that you're taking organic chemistry makes you kind of strange as well. If you want the A, let him see the effort (ask questions go to office hours, etc.) and you will get it. His test questions come from his lectures, so take notes.
He is the best chemistry professor that I have ever had. I don't know why some people posted negative comments! He is very funny, and keeps the class interested, which is something that is NEEDED in a class like this. As long as you pay attention, do as you're told, and ask questions when necessary for you, you should pass with a pretty good grade!
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. Doesn't show up to office hours, loses tests, and doesn't take time to help students falling behind, just focuses on the once that excel in chemistry.
Great Professor if you actually try to learn the material.
Great Professor if you actually try to learn the material. People who say he is not don't put enough time into learning the material.
Does not use a structured teaching style and gives a very informal knowledge of chemistry. I would strongly recommend not taking his class if you are going to take any chemistry courses past chem 1 and 2.
He is very smart teacher and very knowledgeable. I used to hate chemistry but now just love it!! He is very cool and so funny too. must take!!
There is a lot to say about this course, but all ill say is that i would not take his class again.
Very hard time in this class, he moves very quickly and does not like to waste time doing examples more than once. Spends 1 day on material. If chem isn't your best subject i would take another professor. He seems to think that everyone just understands but it's not the case. He is a really smart guy and is funny, but not good at slowing down.
It's not fair of those who say if you didn't put enough time in to learn the material, then you should fail. I studied so hard and he doesn't put what he says will be on the test on it. Very scatterbrained and if you can't teach yourself, don't take him. I Do not understand how they allow him to teach organic and other chemistry classes.
Please don't take him. He is a GPA killer. I worked so hard and I still got a C+. He needs to structure the material and explain everything in detail but he just kind of doesn't mind if you understand the material or not. I'm telling you, don't take him!
Dr. Chapman is a rare breed of educators whose not trying to shove everything down your throat and saying learn this. HE DOES CARE IF YOU GET IT OR NOT! He made science fun and less stressful than it is.
Chapman is very intelligent and funny, which is rare for a chemistry professor. Take his class if you intend to actually learn and not to get a grade for sitting in class. He cares about his students; therefore, he is always ready to help and open for discussions. He does have problems with time so he may be late for class or his office hours.
Avoid him at all costs. he barely teaches. will spend most of the time in class talking about theories or useless nonsense rather than actually teaching the material. could not stand being in that class for more than 20 minutes. dont take him unless you dont have a choice cause the chem dept. posts the professors name after everyone registers.
Class was a hybrid w/some video lectures. He knows his orgo, and he likes answering questions. My 140 prof, who also teaches 260, couldn't answer my questions at all. Chapman did, without blinking an eye. He made biochem easy. He's the man!
He is not able to explain the material well, and makes the simplest concepts seem confusing. Some have said on here that he is 'intelligent.' Maybe in Chemistry, but to me, he seemed completely incompetent as a teacher.
You might like him, you might not. He's not hard if you actually commit to the subject material and pay attention to his lecture, he makes it clear as to what you will be tested on, and if you fail to answer a subtopic on the exam correctly, the curve will save you. Don't be a degenerate and you will be fine, orgo isn't a psychology course..
The man.... The Myth..... The Legend. For students, it's a lovehate relationship with him. I personally enjoyed his humor and his intelligence in his field. Use the textbook if the lectures don't help, take notes, and work hard.
Stay away. The man can't teach. Don't bother going to his lectures, because they are entirely useless. He doesn't care if you come to lectures anyway, nor does he seem to care about the students at all. Just show up for labs, know the test datesmaterial to be tested. He curves to his benefit, not yours (Think about that statement). Good luck.
Dr. chapman might be a bit difficult to follow, but he makes effort to have the students learn and become more interested. Also, helpful outside of class. He is very knowledgeable. He curves grades, adds points to tests, replaces some of the lowest grades with your final if its higher. Doesn't take attendance.
Just when I had lost faith in organic chemistry, this man saved me and my career path. Took him Fall 2014 and it was favorite class. If you have a question, he will help you and simplify it. If you need help in lab, he will be there to guide you and demonstrate. Very fun to talk to, don't be intimidated by his appearance--he is a teddy bear.
Guy is a boss.
This man made chemistry easy for me, i got an easy A in his class. He explained the topics clearly. some people like to be spoon fed, this isn't high school.
He's a nice man, but he just doesn't teach. Some things that weren't "taught" during class showed up on the test. It's honestly not worth taking this class; highly recommend take another professor! Self-studying is key, but it's just not enough to pass...
Chappie, you either love him or hate him. If you want a 'normal' professor, look elsewhere. If your the type that dislikes those you're in luck. He teaches like his tail is on fire and political correctness wasn't a thing. His tests are straightforward however and graded fairly. Best chemistry professor at BCC.
Probably the best Chemistry teacher I had. Took him fall 2015 and he was so funny, kept our attention, did the demonstrations and did not mind helping at all. He was one of the most caring teachers relating to how students do and concerned with our grades. Let us do test corrections to get back credit--definitely take him if you like humor.
Please avoid taking professor Chapman for lab. There are no lab reports. Although that may sound amazing, he makes you write down all your lab info into your notebook and save it until the end of the semester. He then gives you one big final test, and looks through your notebook. This leaves you with no room for error. Fail the test, fail the class
Most disorganized professor I have ever taken. Usually hybrid classes have assignments online when you do not meet in class. Well it didn't. It only had videos he would post last minute of his lectures which were horrible. Lab was wasting 2 hours of the 4 trying to figure out what lab we were doing. bought lab manual and never used it.
I honestly don't know how it's possible for anyone to pass this class. It's obvious most of the class is struggling to understand the material. There's no organization in his teaching such as powerpoints etc. He just spits out his knowledge onto the board, lectures and expects you to understand the concept. Take someone else if you have the option.
3 exams one final. Final replaces one test grade. He curves but doesnt tell you until the end because he wants you to give a crap. His exams consist of 5-6 questions open ended, and gives partial.. not anal about sigfigs. He likes to talk about real world issues which is awesome. Hes funny and makes sense on general life/science topics.
He acts like he doesnt care, but you can tell that he does. He makes you really work for your grade but makes you learn as well. If you dont care about chemistry and need it for a science dont take him. If you want to actually learn chemistry then take him.
Does not go over material well. Expects you to know how to do all the work without showing you. Tests are hard and only consists of 6 questions at most. Curves grades cause most of the class fails. Does not answer emails. Does not give enough time to study for exams. Retaking the class to get a higher grade with another professor.
For lab he is amazing. He is not hands on at all, this gives you the chance to step up and work the labs and be confident in your skills. Just make sure to fill your notebook out as you go and COPY EVERY SINGLE THING DOWN FROM BACKGROUND INFO TO WORKED OUT EXAMPLES. Also he's really funny. 10/10
Hes absolutely doable even if you suck at chem. Go to lecture, listen, write everything down, work problems in the relevant textbook chapters and youll be fine. Hes there to make the concepts less dry and hes very good at it. Know your algebra, be comfortable with logs. Pay attention to the problems he chooses to solve in class.
Hi is very understandable. And he care about the students. I'm going to take his class for chem 240. If you want to learn chemistry take him.
Chapman is THE WORST professor I have ever had in my entire life. His lectures are horrible, he does not stay on task, is not a fair professor, does not care if you need extra explanation on a topic. He is so bad at his job that EVERY test he gives is curved around 40 point and IN ADDITION to that students' final grades also have a hefty curve.
He has an extremely dry and wry sense of humor. His lectures can be difficult to follow. READ THE TEXTBOOK and do the homework. He makes the material interesting. He does want the students to succeed however he will not spoon feed information. He's tough but such an engaging and passionate professor.
He is very vague, and it's difficult to tell what will be on the test from his lectures. You need to check what topics will be on the test in the textbook and work your own problems, as he gives no reviews. He has a wonderfully weird sense of humor and is very knowledgeable. Curves tests like crazy because everyone fails. Cool guy who cares a lot.
THE WORST TEACHER EVER! If you ever take him online, you are wasting your time and money. Man doesn't teach and only links YT videos for references. No notes, no lectures, and he does not respond to emails. You would expect the exam to be easier because of that but no, its the hardest exam I took. He has zero respect for the students too.
Although he links YT vids when it's an online class, some are his own lectures. I can say those are really helpful if you're willing to put effort in and take notes. In person lectures require you to think about the topics. Be patient to when he asks questions. He gives real world examples and will answer his own questions later. Do hw to learn.
careless. gives homework without warning and expects it done the next day. If you want someone who does more than the bare minimum, do not take him.
Dont take him for lab. He will not teach and waits until the very last day of the semester to post grades.
Smart guy but seems salty he's a community college professor. He "Teaches" directly from the textbook. Does NOT commit to specific exam dates and waits until the day of to tell you there is an exam. Asking for help will grant you with some underhanded insults. Sad, because he could be an amazing professor.
Terrible. No communication. Assigned wrong homework, then wouldn't re-open the assignments so we could improve our grades when that material was taught. Forgot to post lectures, blamed students for not letting him know ASAP. Deleted our exam, no explanation (been 3 days of radio silence). No help at all, obv doesn't care if you fail. 2hrs HW daily.
Very condescending, careless, rude, doesnt care about students at all. Sends you email threats! Hours of daily HW, deletes exam to redo with proctor, plus no help at all. Do not take him. Youll waste your money. Very sad that there are professors like this.
Would rate 0 if I could. Worst professor Ive ever taken at BCC. Doesnt post grades, or answer emails or even tries to make the labs understandable just left guessing what Im doing & hoping its right. Dont take this professor if you have any sliver of love for yourself. Bro must have connections cause all these reviews suck & hes still here
WORST PROFESSOR. DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED.
Only take Professor Chapman's course if you feel like teaching yourself Chemistry and doing approximately 5 hours of HW a week. He also makes you to read the entire chapter of the textbook instead of in-depth lectures and as he feels it is not his reasonability to teach you everything but to only touch upon a few things.
if you don't have a basic understanding of chem, don't do it. posts youtube videos, barely teaches & when exam time comes around, he offers NO guidance - tells you which chapters but doesn't have a review or tell you anything else. he expects you check if he posted hw 'multiple times a week' & sometimes only gives you a few days to do hours worth
If you have NO OTHER OPTIONS, take his class, otherwise, stay away. You can email him all you want, just don't expect a reply. Every one of his lectures is a video with little to no guidance. The online homework is posted whenever with no warning and takes hours to complete plus it requires extra payment, aside from tuition and fees. Just don't.
Professor Chapman does not care about you passing. IDK how he can be a professor when he does not teach, only posts Youtube videos and expect us to learn from it and take tests. No extra credit, no help, no teaching in class. Do no take himmmm if you REALLY need to pass
Prof Chapman is really an underrated professor at Bergen. He has a bad rep but he is actually a very caring professor and wants the best for his students although he seems very cynical and cold. You can get good results as long as you are willing to put in the effort and time to study for his exams.
Lectures, or the lack of more like, provide little to no help on homeworks. And there are A LOT of homework, about 5 hours+ a week on homework alone, plus self study time. This guy does not teach okay. Prepare to search everything yourself. Prepare to pay extra to take an online course on top of the tuition, just to do hours of homework.
This professor assigns difficult examinations with questions that are not included in any of the homework assignments.
This guy said "You're a bad student! You're cheating!" --> 1. I'm enrolled in doctorate program 2. I graduated with honors in other college Who gave exam questions that were completely different from homework? Who used his own excel formulas to weed people? Only people who were as miserable with their lives as him gave positive comments here.
Self taught course, don't waste your money. Unless you can read pages 200 pages of chapter notes and do like 6hrs-8hrs of homework a week with no kind of organization on what to learn. Some people exaggerate with the feedback they give to professors but unfortunately each negative review is definitely accurate when it comes to this professor.
I think the professor himself writes 5 star reviews. DO NOT TRUST 5 STAR REVIEWS. The class has 0 structure. He assigns 5+ hours of hw per week minimum, he doesnt do any test reviews, offers 0 practice questions other than online hw. Worst professor ever. Do not take unless you want to teach yourself the entire course. Class is a pure scam!! SCAM!!
Avoid this professor at Bergen. They give too much homework (over 5 hours a day with no warning), don't respond to emails, and don't teach well. There are no exam reviews, and the questions don't match what's taught in class. I dropped the class to prevent it from affecting my grades.JUST DONT TAKE HIM.
Too much homework. Gotta study every single day to finish hw. I was busier alone with this class than when I took 4 classes at once. Exams are extremely difficult. I am a 4.0 student and this is going to be the first to ruin my gpa.
Worst professor I have ever taken in my life. Does not care about students. If he starts to see the students doing well, he switches up exams in order to make the class average lower. Absolute no help, does not answer emails. Only cares that you up his YouTube views.
I dont say this lightly. He set us up for failure. Never answered emails. Told us to study the textbook problems, questions on the test were NOTHING like the textbook problems. His online lectures sucked. Final exam made 2 kids cry - studied 2+ hrs EVERY day leading up to the final, guessed on every question. DO NOT TAKE CHAPMAN AS A TEACHER.
Lecture was online for me; don't watch his videos just read the textbook. lab was in person; wasn't super lab heavy but often went off topic during lab, talking about project 2025 and a bunch of political nonsense. The only grades for the class was 4 lecture tests with equal weight (final cumulative), and the lab notebook. Only take if needed.
Professor Chapman does not seem interested in supporting his students' success. He rarely covers course material in class and only briefly goes over lab rules to limit his liability. The course involves a significant amount of online homework with minimal guidance on how to complete it. I would advise avoiding this course if possible.
He means well, but his teaching style is not for me. His online lectures do not explain the chapters well, so you are forced to learn everything independently. Now that I'm taking Orgo II with a much better professor, these topics are finally becoming clear. I don't recommend his summer course. You will struggle significantly.
Absolute worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of being "taught" by. Was able to pick up on his extremely nasty, rude and uncaring attitude just from his few Canvas announcements and dropped him immediately. If he's your last option, seriously consider just taking chem at a later time.
Avoid this professor at all costs. His online class description is abhorrent. No exceptions, no chance of retake, no chance to pass his class. He will set his students up for failure. Took his first exam and what was assigned for homework was completely irrelevant to what his exam was about. Very unfair. Very difficult. Laks sympathy for students.
Prepare to teach yourself the entire course with this professor - lectures provide little help, and there's a ton of homework (5+ hours per week!). unstuck AI can be a lifesaver for study prep, but this class is still a real challenge. Only take if you're ready to put in the work.
this guy a bum
OK I know I seem crazy amongst all these reviews for liking Chapman, but I really liked taking him for my general chem I lab. I didn't have him for lecture but he was cool! He seems scary at first but he did his best to explain concepts to anyone who asked without judgement. He was so nice and was even kinda funny. Lab work was easy to complete :)
My first impression of Chapman wasn't good. His behavior is unconventional, and he'll run counter to any preconception of a teacher: he swears, seems to have pent-up anger, and sometimes walks into class stark raving mad. Chapman is very authentic. Additionally, don't be deterred from bad grades in the beginning, since it gets better. Study hard.
this class made me crashout every single week
literally the worst professor ive ever had.. he starts off EVERY lab/lecture with him ranting about politics and trump.. I get it but im here to learn about organic chemistry ... NOT how you feel about trump. DO NOT take him unless absolutely necessary.
I would not take his classes again, he talks with a mask and you can hear nothing
no syllabus, not much help. He will help you if you ask but not a lot. His test are not what he teaches. He lectures how to do problems but test the concept of how it works. so if you took chem in hs take him if you have no choice if not i would wait. Be prepared to teach yourself if you can understand. also he has a temper and rants about politics
His teaching style is actually the worst I have ever experienced. There is absolutely no structure to his lectures or labs. He expects you to understand everything he says the first time he says it. It is the second to last week and there is still no syllabus and I have no grade posted. He is unreliable and posts no materials other than the labs.
This teacher is the worst read the reviews! So many drop outs not just me. I complained to the dean stating he is unprofessional and out to fail students and does not offer much help when you ask for it. He expects you to just get it first time. He takes 2 weeks to grade test. If you are good in chm or can learn it no problem you'll still struggle.
