His grading criteria is very unclear, you have to go out of your way to figure out how to be successful. Doesn't have the same grading standards for everyone. He only tells you the format of the midterm and that is all. Takes forever to grade. Lectures every day, not a very focused teacher strays off and discusses unimportant details on topics.
The Lectures weren't bad but a lot of the time, when students would ask questions, he would say "I'll cover that later" or "We cover that in a different class" and the question would go unanswered. He was also pretty unclear with instructions as we had to gather much needed information about important assignments on our own.
Never left any comment on homework or tests. The grading criteria on assignments was not clear. His lectures are decent, but often aren't on topics that we see on the tests.
Ok so unless you want to be ghosted out of getting a good grade I suggest you refrain from taking this class. Why? For the fact that he doesnt have a clear grading criteria for how he grades you assignments and all of the tests and quizzes. Cares about how drawn out the assignments are so basically write 2-3 or even 4 pages to get a 90-100%. Dont
Compared to other 136 classes this class is easy. You just need to be good at writing and connecting your ideas. Midterms are in writing format same as final. You get better with the writing as the quarter goes on. It is easy to get a 4.0 as you only need a 90% and up. Boring lectures though.

There's an online assignment every week. On average they're asked to be 2-3 pages long. It's not difficult to get the work done if you take somewhat detailed notes during the lectures. The online assignments are based on what he said in class. Pay attention, write down dates and listen to what he says, not just whats on the Powerpoint or board.
There's an online assignment every week and he grades really tough. His study guides suck and he is not clear on what he expects of you. He also never gives feedback. Also, his quizzes are only on the textbook and we do not go over anything in the textbook in class. In class there's just a long lecture.
He's a tough grader who likes to give out homework and he makes you work for the 10/10 on them. make sure to put a lot of information that is tied to the question(s) and try to tie in other details from previous experiences.

He's for sure not easy but on the syllabus there are clear dates for when things are due and when tests are taken. The reading is a lot but you can spread it out. The online assignments every week are not too difficult if you take good notes in class, they're just boring. His lectures are long but he gets to the gist of each topic quickly enough.

Mr. Carters classes are challenging. He gives you a ton of things to do with disregard for your other classes. We had three map quizzes that we hardly went over in class. He gives a midterm study guide of about 20 potential subjects but chooses five to be on the test, cramming you with unnecessary things to study, and stress.
Unclear grading of exams. Too much reading per week. Only take this class if it's your only option.

Grading criteria was unclear, almost thought I failed the class. He lectures every single day and has two midterms and three quizzes throughout the quarter. If you don't participate verbally it would affect your participation grade.
I have taken two of his classes now, history 136, and then the continuation history 137, he was definitely a very tough grader, and not very clear in his criteria, but he took criticism from the students and reformed his grading and availableness with students, if you take him after spring 2018, you won't go wrong
I loved this class, Mr. Carter was clear, funny and taught everything with such passion which makes the class very engaging. Only think I had trouble with was his pop quizzes because they are very precise and you do have to pay attention to small details in the readings. very caring and kind teacher. recommend completely

Brazell Carter is a competent history professor with an interesting class curriculum. He delves into topics in history that may get looked over in other history courses. The issue of race in American history is approached with sensitivity by him. Reading the chapters of the textbook, really reading it, is the key for his classes.
Not a very good teacher to start with. On top of that, he assigns an insane amount of reading acting as if his class is the only class we are taking. Weekly assignment questions are really open ended, yet his grading on them is not. He is a good person, but a mediocre teacher.
I got a 4.0 twice in both 136 & 137. Don't miss class-lectures are very detailed. He will cover details from the book if they are important for midterms. You get to chose what ? you want to answer on quizzes, midterms, final. In written format, need to include all details and connect all historical events in ?'s for full pts. No feedback-office hrs
Im gonna be honest if you do your part your gonna pass easily. Super fun class and his lectures are actually interesting . 33% of the class is a final group project which is really easy so there is really no way you wont pass.
Best teacher i have ever have! He is so passionate about history and his lectures are AMAZING. Participate and pay attention and you will have a 4.0. Quizzes are hard, but if you read youll do okay. The final project is basically your entire grade and its graded easily if you follow the instructions.
I took 136 in the spring with Carter and it changed my view on history. I absolutely loved his class and him as a professor. He made class fun and none of his lectures were ever boring to me. He knew how to teach the history and knows a lot about it. He does have a lot of homework but it is not so difficult. Great professor!!
His grading is pretty easy but unfair in my case. I had done my group's entire project because they had no desire to do their part and they had told him they had done nothing but they got the same grade that I did. I liked his class because he made the lectures interesting but his grading was discouraging.
If you like history, you will enjoy Professor Carter's class. The lectures can be entertaining or boring depending on the subject. I do not recommend relying wholly upon the lectures to pass, reading the textbook is important to pass the two midterms!
Midterms are easy, about 2 pages of info is all that you need to do. Weekly discussions. Final is an easy group project.
He's an okay teacher. His lectures are 100% reliant on calling on students and making them answer. When he asks a question, he sits there and waits until someone says something. He only gives information after a student has already answered. He also is a very tough grader on the midterms. But the homework is easy (you can find Quizlets online).
This class is like an every other day switch between lectures and discussions on the lectures. There are also weekly inquisitive assignments to go along with the textbook reading. It was hard to keep up with the reading, and often the lectures would be posted late and sometimes there would be multiple so it was an effort to stay on top of it all.
Nice guy, not a great teacher. lectures were boring and pointless. Never notified the class when he posted a discussion so myself, as well as dozens of other students, completely missed them with no chance to make up the points at all. I sent him 5 emails over the course of the quarter and he didn't respond to one.
He is a good professor, I would take his class again. Very little assignments, only discussions once in a while, reading the book, and inquizitive assignments (you can find answers on Quizlet). The pre-recorded lectures are sometimes a bit long, but they are interesting. His grading policy is good and easy if you get 90-100% 4.0

His zooms and lectures are kinda boring and the tests are even based off of them. Make sure you read the textbook most of the stuff comes from there. He makes you take the midterms and final on zoom so he can watch. Not an easy grader.
To start, he is actually a really good professor. You can tell he is very knowledgeable and the material is actually pretty interesting (if you like history). Lots of lectures !!! Those are lowkey long. If you do virtual, you have to participate. Do the work, and take notes on the lectures and you will do fine. Kinda grades hard, not "easy".
I took Carter's class online as a hybrid. He gives many LONG lectures and multiple weekly inquisitive assignments that corresponded with the readings. On my final, he gave me a 0/15 on a question I answered fully and a 29/45 on another because he didn't personally agree with my choice of topic. I'm an A/ A- student. Overall, tough grader, not fun:/
Professor Carters HIST137 class is not easy but definitely passable. Make sure to check when discussion board input is due since he doesnt always make an announcement, not doing so hurt my grade. If you participate in live sessions and do the work, you should be fine.
Likable person, but not the best professor. Be prepared to discuss the lectures in detail-- they're entertaining and he clearly cares about history, but he's a tough grader with very high expectations. Tests are free-answer with Zoom supervision. Follow the study guides and pray.
In the three quarters I've had at GR, Brazell is the best professor that has taught me. His lectures are extremely helpful, the zoom meetings are great - even if they're awkward at times - and you really get to learn a lot about this country's history.

Seems like a great teacher but not very considerate. Zooms required for online class, randomly scheduled. Long chapters and many hours of lectures each week posted randomly throughout. Discussions posted between Friday and Saturday to do over weekend. Class is inconvenient as it is hard to plan and hard to keep up with.
He seems like a very genuine teacher, however the work in this class is quite alot. Zoom classes are required, even during online- unexpected schedule. Not enough time to do the assignments. Overall, if you are someone who has work and outside expectations I would not recommend this class.
Great person, horrible teacher. It the most difficult online I have taken. Labeled as online yet required zoom meetings, when posting discussion posts it was unclear, we'd have to go check every other day. When emailing him expect a long wait time, doesn't reply until days later and is pushes away what you have to say, "as far as this class goes"
lecture kinda heavy. reading is required and its more than one book. Don't particularly like this teacher and never have but needed the class. zoom calls aren't really mando if you're watching the recordings and reading the book. really really slow grader and responds every 48 hours. take this teacher if you want or need to but he's not that great

His lecture's are very long but he makes them enjoyable for they help with understanding certain concepts. His test's are little challenging so KNOW THE MATERIAL. Just be prepared for a weird schedule with his class for sometimes he will post at 9pm and is not always the same day
Mr. Carter I would say is the toughest grader I have seen. For example, the midterms given to us were 30 points each, the average score was 14, he grades harsh when it comes to written questions.
He's a good person but not a good teacher. His class is lecture heavy and reading the book doesn't really help on any occasion. Midterms are open-ended but he has something he's looking for each midterm; which really beats the purpose of open-ended questions. His grading criteria isn't clear as well. His class is difficult and a 4/10 at best.
Probably one of the worst classes I've taken. This professor gives a very heavily one-sided view of history and will dismiss any different opinions in discussions. He brought up politics in every discussion, and barely taught any history. If you don't agree with everything he says, it will cost you points.
He is kind and has the cutest daughter, but there's a lot of work. Multiple lectures every week and each one is at least an hour. They are also kind of boring and just time consuming. He is really hard on grading. For a midterm a, I got 22/30 even when I wrote 5 full paragraphs elaborating on the question and he still said I didn't elaborate enough
Do not take this class. He takes forever to grade and grades very hard. He takes forever to respond to emails if he ever does respond to you. If you miss a minor detail he will give you an F. I will never have this professor again.
I was in a Hybrid Class (In person one day, In zoom one other day). If I were to sum up this class, I'd say that online is much more time efficient because I felt as though meeting on specific days was not necessary (since we had the lectures). Also, the professor is such a harsh grader and he pushes many long lectures out within one week.
Brazell Carter is a man that can not be satisfied by the hard work that you put in. For example, the Finals exam he will ask for a in-depth response to a question, what he means by "In-depth response" is that he wants a whole essay about every single detail the question is asking.

Carter seems like a cool guy, but I just wouldnt take his class again. His lectures were very long and he posts a lotttt of them. It was very hard to keep up. The assignments themselves were easy, but the midterm and exam were tough. I failed both and so did all of my friends in that class.
Prof. Carter was a disappointing teacher. He graded very harshly and wouldnt leave any feedback. I tried setting a zoom up with him once, it took around two weeks to figure it out. I had to go to the head of the History department to get a hold of him. The lectures are 1-2 hours long and there are discussion questions to go along. The tests HARD!
You know when a teacher says I dont give out As, they arent fit to teach. He would randomly post stuff without saying anything and then expect you to find the assignment and do it with minimal instructions. It would take a week for him to respond to my emails too!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Extremely disappointed in this professor. Im currently taking his online class. Hes a harsh grader and time was definitely an issue on quizzes. One question wanted a description of 13 entire terms/events. His lectures are extremely long and he posts a lot of them, which is hard to manage with 4 AP/CHS classes in high school.
This man is not a good teacher. First off, he never responds to any emails you send him, or when he does he barely answers the question. He has little to no communication with any of his students. His lechers are boring and there are SO MANY OF THE. If this is your first year of running start, PLEASE DONT TAKE HIM.

Brazell Carter was not a good professor, it felt like I was being taught by a robot, he would rarely answer emails, zoom meetings were horrible and this "professor" seemed to not care, if you are looking for a history teacher PLEASE look for another this class was horrible from day one. This Prof has never made me feel so not smart. Though you didn't feel overloaded with work. His discussions posted are hard to manage as he loves to change dates without saying anything. Along with every assignment is graded so harshly. Once I stated a Generals attitude, was one way he thought differently and I lost 15% for just that. SAVE YOUR GPA
Teacher was not clear at all when you asked him questions about. He gave me a bad grade on a midterm after using quotes (which he said he’d allow). Feedback is decent. Some of the quiz problems had 12-13 parts and were unreasonable. Had trouble reaching out to him through email (had to try 3-4 times). He was also really rude.
Carter is the worst teacher that I have had. Through my two years of Running Start this was my least enjoyable class. I would HIGHLY NOT recommend any of his classes to anyone. Your opinion is always wrong to him and he always make sure you know that. Please save your sanity and choose another teacher if possible.
Garbage. He asks you a question for your final but if u answer it without knowing the 2 extra secret questions he didn't ask u lose 80% of the grade for the test. It's like he'll ask what is your birthday and u answer but he gets mad u didn't tell him your height and weight as well.
He took forever to respond when I would email him for help. When I told him I was falling behind, he literally said "No, just keep working". He posted SO many lectures and usually the day before a test. And they were always hours long. His grading is also ridiculous. The tests were long and hard essay questions and he just didn't help at all.
I learned a lot in this class. His recorded lectures were funny and video content was interesting and relevant. Yes, there is a lot of reading, it's a history class. I put in the effort and it paid off. I felt his grading was fair and reasoned and his exam questions were fair and thought provoking. He is a great professor! Thank you.
VERY lecture heavy. Weekly discussion with multiple mini questions had to have a paragraph answer & response for full points, 2-3 hour-long lecture videos on top of inclass lectures & reading. Had to pay for code to his site & 3 books for his course. Never answers his emails. Answered mine first day of school but that was it. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS

OH MY GAWD. HE PICKS ON EVERY LITTLE DETAIL FOR YOUR TESTS!! I took a midterm rite; I forgot to mention a detail THEN boom 7 points were taken off!!! I was holding my tears on the bus. Everything is based on memorization, it's super lecture-heavy, and he's funny, I guess. But overall do not take this class unless you have no other options.
This class is extremely boring with very lengthy online lectures , he often rambles and goes on to 1 1/3 hour video lectures. There are weekly readings, weekly inquizitive assignments, and about 4-5 online lectures to watch a week, and one online discussion weekly. The material is boring and be ready to watch lots of lectures.

He was not very clear on the grading criteria. I answered a question on one of the quizzes and I got counted as wrong even though the answer he was looking for didn't answer the question he had asked. Tried to argue for my grade and got shut down. Average for quizzes was somewhere around 13-15/30 points. Don't take this class.
The quarter is extremely heavy on lectures and text book reading. Assignments are manageable to but the work in order to do them is not.
Carter gives 2-5 hours of lectures (tip: speed them up), one discussion, and one Inquizitive assignment a week. 4 quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 final; writing portions are disproportionately harder than the rest - be ready to write essays. Overall doesn't do much to actually explain the material; gives a basic lecture and expects us to learn and apply it.
Two midterms worth 12% each, a full length essay in 90 minutes. Will grade harshly if you don't meet important details from the notes you took. 30-40pgs reading and 1-2 hours of lecture to take notes on per week with an Inquizitive assignment that kind of guarantees 40% of grade. Good for people who can read and retain well but I would still avoid.
This is my second time posting since someone had my response removed. Unfortunately for them, I saved my post. To sum up my point: Carter's teaching method was very typical of a history professor. Read the textbook, do the tests. He's very rude in responses to students. He gave me a D on a midterm for citing evidence which he gave permission to do.

he's a good teacher, just do the work and you will be fine, there's not even that much. the feedback is clear and helpful, don't forget key details and read questions thoroughly. and he's funny during recorded lectures so that's a bonus. one of the easiest A's if you just do the work like any other class
He doesn't respond to emails, getting a hold of him is difficult. Doesn't seem to care, or want to help. He gives out tons of work, and none of it is direct, he just hopes that we find everything out ourselves. Majority of the grade is the Finals, and Mid Terms. He grades super late, and isn't considerate at all.
When doing the test questions he looks for specific details, and need to be 100% explained. if you miss a little detail he will give you a lower grade. His lectures are recorded and are about 1-2 hours long, and is expected to be watched and ready to be discussed in class. Attendance is mandatory. discussion must be long, and meaningful.

Professor Carter was very hard to take. His lectures are very boring and there are so many of them each week, along with 40+ pages of reading each week. For the midterm papers, he was very nitpicky about grading and took off points because it wasn't the example he would have used. Do not take, barely got out with an A-.

Having professor Carter for an online class was very tough as he isn't very direct on when he wants things due or what you're doing that week. For example, there was several times when he would post a quiz at random and it would be due the next day. He posts at least 3 lectures a week which in total could be 1-4 hours. this profeser is horrible. he doesn't repond to emails, and doesn't care about personal matters. he gave me a 0/30 on a midterm and said i didn't respond to the questions right, when i literally followed his lectures. lectures are 2 hours long and he babbles alot. try any and everything to not have him.
Don't take this class expecting a good grade. Class average for the midterm was 13/30. Someone explained it as, if you don't answer his 3 secret questions then you get a 0, and I couldn't agree more. I have friends who have a 3.9 GPA and their only goal after taking this class was to get out with a passing grade. plus you have hours of lectures.
Save yourself time and money, don't take his class. His lectures are long, he often goes on irrelevant tangents, and the lectures are never posted at a consistent time. Exams are extremely difficult and he never replies to emails. You are way better off finding a different professor.

Terrible Professor. Practically gaslights you when ever you answer a question in class, not a lot of assignments but so so so many lectures. entire class in person is a lecture and 4-5 online lectures a week if your (if your lucky). so much assigned on syllabus that I gave up on early in the quarter and still going to pass with high B. do not take.
To many lectures graded midterm an average of 18/30. tanks gpa, harsh critic and will doc grade if have an opposing opinion, sends misinformation leans really really libreal and doesn't like opposing views and only wants the answer he's looking for, AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you care about your gpa
If you want to get a good grade do not take his class. He is impossible and insufferable I do not recommend if you care about your GPA cause bro will crush it and not help you at all. If you email him expect a response a month later and a rude response. My advice is do not take this class.
He is a good person but 4 puts hours of lectures to watch outside of class and 40 plus pages a week to read. He is a very tuff grader and sometime the class high on assignments were 70%. He will sometimes give rude responses and make you feel dumb if you are wrong.
He is nice and cracks jokes but the lectures are so long and most times unimportant. TOUGH GRADER in exams, you must write a lot to get a better grade. Exams are timed and at certain times.
Mr. Carter is a great teacher! At first I was struggling a bit, especially with all the lectures. I was working 20 hours a week, with extra curriculars and stacked with homework. If you know how to manage your time well, the workload isn't terrible. There is a lot of lectures, but he's a teacher that gives his all and is willing to help you learn.

This professor is strict. I did not know that the tests taken were going to be in the form of an essay. Which was difficult for me, the final was mostly long and short-answer questions there were a few multiple-choice too. there wasn't a lot of homework assigned, it was mainly a discussion, reading the textbook and then answering questions
No joke I think carter should simply stop "teaching". He's simply a horrible professor, and doesn't care about actually teaching his students. Seems like all he cares about is getting his paycheck and going home. The most inconsiderate HUMAN BEING (if he even is one) I have ever met.
I will contradict majority of the reviews Carter received, but to me, Professor Carter will forever be remembered for his unjustifiably tough grading and a 2-hour lecture reposted every morning. This guy assignes nearly 5 videos every week to take notes on which take about 90 minutes per video, he then has you do other assignments aswell which take a huge amount of time, lastly his a tough grader who picks on the smallest things possible, Pleaseeeeeeee avoid this guy!

tbh this teacher is actually awful, he is god-awful at responding to emails and is so nit-picky about discussions, which is strange since it's completely opinion-based. he also posts 5 lectures a week all over 90 minutes long, but never actually teaches in class. overall run far far away, and drop this class asap

Do not take this class whatsoever. VERY picky about the discussions and midterm answers. Everyday you will need to watch a 2 hour lecture and write notes on which he expects you to get done and discuss it in class. Please steet clear of this guy.
Avoid enrolling in Brazell Carter's courses at Green River College if you prioritize a manageable workload and stimulating classes. Class average of failing, midterms and finals need to be SUPER specific, missing even a single discussion post can tank your grade. Avoid at all costs
I do not recommend taking this professor for history 137. There is just better options out there. He has an unclear grading criteria for tests and grades very harshly. He also is very poor when it comes to responding to emails. He's the only professor that makes passing US HISTORY a chore. The averages for some of the tests remain very poorly.
IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA AVOID HIM. He gives 2 midterms, a final, several 90 minute lectures a week, 40 pages of reading, etc. He expects you to finish all the lectures and to discuss in class. He's a hard grader and midterm average was 13/30. He never replies to emails. I would rather get in a fatal car crash than take his class ever again.
Carter is by far one of the worst professors I've ever worked with. And this isn't only from my experiences. Carter is amazing at not doing his job. He does not care for his students whatsoever. He post 4-5 lectures a week and then post assignments, quizzes and midterms that have nothing to do with the extremely lengthy lectures. Never take Carter!

I would not advise anybody to sign up for this class unless they have a lot of free time and enjoy history. He assigns many long lectures a week that are not helpful or relevant. He is an extremely tough grader who has little sympathy for personal problems, and has bad communication with his students. I would not take this class again online.
Very tough class. He assigns lots of videos each week to take notes on and each video is around 1 hr long. No late work or retakes or extra credit. If you miss a discussion your grade will drop a good amount. Good luck if you have to take his class.
If u really need to take him bc of ur schedule its possible. Take his class online, do all discussions, quizzes, etc. Make sure to YAP in detail bc he prefers that over a small paragraph. Theres really no need to watch his lectures if u read the assigned chapters weekly. No one has time for 5 hr lectures weekly. Discussions are weighed more!
Not a great teacher. He doesn't have a clear rubric or instructions, he leaves vague instructions and when you write your answers to midterms and quizzes he says that it's not "clear enough" or "doesn't meet criteria" but again, he never explains what the criteria is. Good teacher if you can sit and watch videos and write 1000 words about it.
Due to Mr. Carter's lack of care towards his students and his nitpicky grading, I have a C+. He assigns around 3-4 lectures every week, his tests do not have ANY rubrics, and he wants information in the short/long answer questions that obviously is specific to him. I could go more, but theres a word limit.
Even though I got a decent grade, I have never worked harder in a class in my life. I really didn't like how condescending he seemed in class. The lectures he posted online were literally the same as the ones in person, and he would get mad if we didn't watch the lectures online which were like at least 4 hours a week in addition to class time.

Wouldn't take this class unless you're ready for a ton of reading and watching 3 videos assigned to watch a week, normally an hour each, and a 50 dollar textbook that you have to read a chapter per week as well. When he teaches in class, he isn't that engaging, and be ready for awkward silent pauses when he asks a question to the class.

Absolutely horrible, grades free response stuff badly because you didn't write enough or something ("enough" isn't defined, there's no rubric), posted 2 quizzes for my class the night before Thanksgiving break which were due on Thanksgiving without mentioning it in class that morning, the vast majority of us didn't see them and then failed them.
Please try to avoid this professor, if you want a life outside of school. Worst teaching methods ever. He's passionate about history though.

Avoid this class if you can. Professor Carter's lectures are long and unhelpful, and he's a tough grader with unclear expectations. However, using resources like unstuck ai along with the textbook can help you get through it. Not recommended unless you have a lot of free time.
The class can be difficult at times but if you pay attention to the lectures and keep up with the readings and online discussions, you're pretty much set. I would recommend taking notes for the in person lectures because although it can be boring, you won't need to watch the online lectures as they cover the same topics.
Very tough grader. He removed an assignment from Canvas just to add it back last minute. Went from a 90 to a 86. Homework is long, ranging from 30 minutes to 4 hours with the same amount of points allocated to each assignment. Very strict grader, the highest grade in the class on the final was 86/100.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, he's often rude when you don't get a question correct in lectures and when you are correct he fails to acknowledge what you said makes you feel like never speaking in his class again. He also grades extremely hard and NEVER responds to emails

only take him online. very straight foward. just one discussion and this inquizative thing. very easy just use technology. look for the weekly discussions in your discussion module because it doesn't show up as an assignment. teacher doesn't respond to emails nor help with assignments. he does not accept late work but his courseload is very doable.

He was my first professor I had ever taken for college as a running start student. Never again. He would post a bunch of 90ish minute video lectures every week and would get mad if you didn't watch them all in one day… Made me feel extremely exhausted. Also, his lectures are a little messy
I take his online course, this man doesn't take late work, he will not accept explanations or extensions. He will read one part of your email and respond to that single part. I did four hours of work just to be unable to take a test, and he assigns multiple lectures a day to take notes on. If you can take a class with a different professor, do it.
He is a very heavy grader. He's one of the worst teachers I have had. He also expects you to remember the smallest detail from each of his weekly 5, 1 hour lectures, and in his eyes you have to go above and beyond just to get a C. He simply expects too much from his students
He was chill. I wouldn't recommend taking his class if you are just trying to receive credit. It is manageable but you need to be attentive to deadlines. InQuizitives are a lot of work. Midterms are graded though. Final project is easy. Be sure to be well versed in your topic to answer his questions during the Q&A portion.
PROF CARTER MY MAN!! He is extremely enthusiastic and fun if u take African American studies. His midterms were easy and the final was optional. WATCH THE LECTURE VIDEOS. He will literally make us watch 2 hour long videos and YOU WILL BE EXPECTED to talk about it the next day. He will not continue the class until the students engage. So much work
Very strict grader and must do the lectures. He does tell you if you are improving and where you can. I found the questions very thought provoking but you do need to explain in very much depth. I wish the study guides were better but I do think he does care. I think he is a bit too tough on grading and could understand how busy we already are.
While yes, he is a bit of a tough grader at times and his grading criteria is a bit unclear for the midterms, he is not as bad as these reviews make him out to seem. Homework was extremely easy as it consists of one InQuizitive per week and 1 discussion board that was based off about lecture or 2 from that week and quizzes which were easy.
Most of the work is easy; the powerpoints I would say aren't as in depth as I would like for what is expected for the heavily graded parts so I felt underprepared. Quite unclear or not giving as much feedback for what he'd expect or like; just felt like doing assignments and dealing with the big chunk of written work. Thats it.

I literally can't. I read the reviews on this teacher. I saw the signs. And I ignored them. I should've listened. Her Canvas is so disorganized you can't find anything. You also cannot see in advance what's being assigned. Also, no late work accepted. At all. Made an account on this site just to warn you not to make the same mistakes I did.

Please dont rake this mana classes ever.. i have written to him about 4 times for now 3 weeks he hasn't responded.. and when he does responds to some emails, he never fully answers and talks about grades. He just talks about what said once sometime. I don't love history but he made me hate it even more, will retake the class with diff professor.
This professor was by far the worst one I've ever had. He grades harder than any teacher I've had before, but he doesn't even SAY what his expectations are. He expects you to take the exam and know exactly what he wants to see. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I was losing my mind trying to just get a bare minimum grade, he's straight up evil.
the website we had to use was impossible to navigate and one right answer was one point and one wrong answer was -ten points and every point lost took you down a letter grade.

Yes he doesnt answer emails…BUT he is quite funny i'm ngl & his workload is abt 1 discussion a week,& if u watched the lectures (3-4hrs a week) u should be able to get a 10/10 pretty easily if you answer the question clearly. Same goes with midterms & quizzes.

Genuinely shocked that he has so many awful ratings. Yes, there's lots of reading and recorded lectures to take notes on, but nothing unreasonable, and he's not such a tough grader. His in-person lectures are engaging and honestly fun. Only Lin-Manuel Miranda has made me care about US history like he did.

Play all the lectures on 2.5x speed and beware he will downgrade you if you hold a different opinion than him on political issues. This will tank your gpa

Honestly, if I had known to actually check these ratings I would've never even tried to enroll into this class. It isn't that bad work-load wise, but he grades horribly. He's terribly hard to reach through emails and he will literally stand, wait, or even crash out if no one participates in lectures.

There are lots of recorded lectures and the workload is kind of a lot, but I feel that overall that class was interesting and the professor was super nice. He also responded to my emails very quickly. Grading also seemed fair.

I took Professor Carter a few years back to fulfill high school requirements. This man e-mailed my sister about her RMP review, and e-mailed our family to take it down. Also his grading is inconsistent, hard, and genuinely just horrible. Not the worst professor I've taken, but by far the most insane one. Avoid at all costs.
hello this is post final exam, I EFFED UP. There are 3+ versions of the final exam and I'm speaking for everyone when I say I EFFED UP. He wants very specific answers for the questions with examples but the study guide JUST TERMS btw is longer than a page. He puts random stuff we didn't put much focus on in the exam too. Do. Not. Take.This. Class.
He doesn't give many opportunities to improve your grade and does not offer extra credit. Tough grader-- no one in our class got a perfect score in either midterms. Would not take again-- take literally anyone else. I dont understand how anyone could pass this class.
I lowk enjoyed his class and learned a lot from it! He's VERYY lecture heavy however (5-6 each week) and EXPECTS you to talk about them in class. Awkward in class at times but overall hes rlly engaging and funny with his lectures. hw is decent (1 discussion a week) and is fairly easy. wish he put out better study guides for midterms tho
This professor has no chances for extra credit, is not forgiving at all, and is a harsh grader. I studied so much and yet I didn't get full points on a single one of his midterms or exams. I also correctly answered the questions, yet got marked down because I didn't go into as much detail as he wanted (these are timed exams). DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.
Passionate about what he teaches, & I learned a lot from his class. 4-6 videos a week that are an hour or longer, which are discussed in class so if you miss them it's not a big deal. However, I highly recommend taking notes on them and participating in discussions to retain more knowledge, since there aren't much assignments you'll be graded on.
