Very helpful, good test preperation. Pretty good teacher too.
She is an all around average teacher. She does appreciate if you go in for help but overall the workload is average. Tests and quizzes are sometimes tough but she hands out review sheets for tests. Labs are confusing(yes labs for math!)
very confusing, writes a lot on the board

She does not know how to teach! She picks the hardest things to be on the test and final! It seems as if she is out to get you!
For Linear algebra, I liked kroschel is very helpful with take home test and test preparation overall very good teacher to count on. Gives good in class problems and very easy to understand
A lot of people from my class complained about her, but I thought she was fine. Her tests were a little hard, but I learned a lot from her.
I think she gets into too many technical definitions. Also, her tests and quizzes tend to be much different from the homework it's really frustrating. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
Listen to me right now. I do not want you to experience the anxiety, pain, and sleepless nights that I did. If you are not a math wizard then stay away. Do yourself a favor and don't become a bitter person by taking this professor.

Doesn't have much respect for students time. She goes over every class up to ten minuntes. She has weekly quizzes which can not be made up or taken early even if you have an excused absense. She is not very organized and takes forever to get quizzes and assignments back. I like math, but she did not engage me. Would not recommend, obviously.
Again, not respectful of students time, always lectures passed hour. Always makes excuses when she gets confused about what she is teaching or forgets to correct homework and get it back. Material is interesting but the way she teaches is incompatable for most peoples learning style, no example problems. Avoid at all costs.
Does not explain things well in class. Seems to know the formulas and how to use them, but I don't know if she actually understands material--if she does, she doesn't know how to explain it. Let us use notecards on the test, which made things easier, but I am a math major and want to learn math, not just how to "plug and chug" numbers.
Very poor teacher. Refused outside help, and was not a friendly person. Very dissatisfied, avoid at all cost

Abandon all hope, ye who enter here
i think she's a good prof.
Tests in a really weird way--not exactly testing what is covered in class or on homework, but really tricky. Helpful for the most part... Sometimes she'll give you the wrong help though. Good class if you are willing to work. Really very interesting, lots of theory.
Weekly quizzes are kind of difficult, tests aren't that bad. Not very friendly and rushes through explanations which makes her hard to follow. Offered a redo on a big quiz everyone bombed. A decent teacher.
Kroschel is SO nice. She is a mom and you can tell. Keep in mind Calc is not an easy subject, so be ready to do some work (homework is not graded). That said, Kroschel is always willing to help. She's not the easiest grader in the world but you should get by fine. The class is definitely passable.
The homework is not graded, but get one thing straight, IT IS NECESSARY. She'll cover the material you'll need to know (all the way up to five minutes after class,) but these problems are helpful and often wind up on the weekly quizzes and the exams. She is willing to help you if you're having trouble and expect to spend several hours in the MaRC.
The first test was pretty hard, but she's really helpful and as long as you go to her and ask questions, you'll be alright, i ended up with over 100%, and i'm not that great at math
This was by far the worst math course I have taken. She was unapproachable when it came to getting help. Halfway through the course over 10 people out of 30 were no where near a passing grade. She caused a great deal of pain and anxiety for anyone who took this course and if she is the only teacher available I would recommend waiting...
Kroschel is a difficult teacher. her homework consistently has many high end difficulty problems, and is not very lenient on grading it. her teaching style is not great. she know's her stuff, but she has a difficult time teaching it to you. I was an A+ student without taking notes. now i am c+ with more notes and studying than i ever did before
I suck at math, but I try extremely hard for her class. She appreciates it when students who dont know the material too much try really hard. Sometimes the class goes over by a couple of minutes. She goes over the material pretty well but make sure to ask questions if you don't know something. Go into her office if you are not sure about something.
not a very good teacher. she doesnt grade the homework throughout the semester which really affects your grade and she still expects you to know the material. weekly quizes suck. Reading guides due prior to classes are hard to remember to do and are worth more than the homework which makes no sense.
Kroschel is a good professor. I enjoyed her class. Sometimes she goes too fast explaining the materials, but in general she does a good job at teaching them. I'd recommend her class if you are good at math. If not, you may find this class quite time consuming.
I dont know what everyone is talking about. Kroschel is a good professor. She's very nice in person. If you didnt do well in her class, blame yourself first before blaming anyone else :)
I have commented twice already but feel the need to comment again cos I still cant get over how many people are leaving negative comments abt Kroschel! She's one of my favorite math profs here at UST. Very easy going and I like her personality. Good at explaining complicate things. Get to know here and you will like her!
Very difficult professor. I would not recommend her to anyone that liked math in high school. Test are extremely hard, homework is very time consuming, and she is very confusing. No respect for students or their other classes. Prepare for a low grade and a lot of confusion with this professor. And get ready for LOTS of notes and a quiz every week.
She always talks down to you. She will be explaining something on the board and she sounds so upset while doing it. REALLY ANNOYING VOICE. She grades tests and quizzes differently depending on the person, too.
Overall, Professor Kroschel is a nice person and a good teacher but make sure you ask questions. She is more than willing to help out if you ask for it but don't be intimidated if she talks down to you a little bit. But the most important thing I can say is do not take a course with her if you are not willing to put in A LOT of effort.
This teacher is a not good at all. I would avoid her at all cost. I wish she would be hired. She expects you to be as good as her at math. She is a very harsh grader. Avoid her at all cost!!!
If you haven't taken Calc yet, don't take her class. I had to reference back to my notes in highschool for her notes to make sense to me. Test are hard. Goes over class time almost all the time.
Moves extremely fast through notes she writes on the board the entire class period. If a class is missed, you will fall very far behind. Tests are long and hard. She isn't very friendly/belittles many of her students.
She gives a lot of homework. You need to go to class or else you will miss a lot. Tests aren't too bad if you study
Very helpful lady if you go to class, and take advantage of office hours. Teaching style is very understandable and fits right into my notebook perfectly. Overall, made this class a very good experience.
Good: Tests are easier than the homework problems. Bad: Lectures at a fast pace for all 100 minutes of TR classes, assigns more homework than any other professor I've heard of, homework is hard. Overall: Not worth it.
She is a hard grader and her tests are always harder than the homework. I would not suggest taking her if you don't have to. LOTS of homework, again doesn't reflect her tests.
OK such a "nice" lady i've ever met,not prepared for class.. sometimes loses her mind in class (she may erase everything that she writes on the board). Too much mathematica work, hard grader. If you want to challenge your GPA, or you just want to throw tons of money away, i'll highly recommend her then!
She is really nice and a swell teacher. She might assume the class knows something that they don't, but just ask her to explain, and she has no problem doing so. It is a fast paced class, so sometimes her examples aren't sufficient to do homework from, but the time she has is limiting and not really her fault. Just take notes-lots of them.
Phenomenal professor. There is a lot of homework and weekly assignments. The tests are very reasonable and she even posts a study guide. I would definitely recommend this professor, even though the class isn't an easy "A".
A grea prof. You definitely have to work hard but she teaches the material very well and is extremely smart. I would recommend her to math majors for sure. She is a fast paced teacher so if you need a slow pace try taking her on MWF. Homework is decent, tests are ok if you're prepared.
Math usually comes naturally to me. Just for background on me and my strengths. I thought Dr. Kroschel was very reasonable. Sometimes she went a bit fast. She tries to have the homework harder than the tests so that you really learn before the test. That worked to make the tests seem easy. Overall, I liked her.
She is a HORRIBLE teacher. Math has always been my favorite subject but not after having her. She moved fast (even skipped parts), contradicted herself a lot, and had an overall brash personality. I refuse to take another class with her. I recommend you do the same.
Don't take her. Very condescending attitude, gets upset when students correct her mistakes, and overall pretty negative. Homework is harder than tests, and she gives practice exams. No quizzes, but HW every night. Very big on proofs and definitions, very few example problems. I learned more from the "How To" videos than actually going to class.
Good at teacher and explaining the material. However, she is a REALLY hard grader. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take her, but if you want to learn the material really well, then do so. Homework load wasn't too bad. Going to lecture isn't required but helped a lot.
Brenda had her ups and downs. Some times she "talked down" to people who asked questions, but overall the course was not too difficult. Her office hours were mostly helpful, and she gave a good idea as to what would be on each test so it wasn't a huge surprise every time
Crazy amount of homework and very hard to keep up. Assigned homework is extremely difficult compared to what she shows in class. Lectures move way too fast in explaining the section and when she does example problems, she skips a lot of steps and expects the students to follow. Material is unclear and class gets harder the more you fall behind.
Kroschel is an okay person, really will help you during office hours if you ask questions. But during lecture she flys through it and skips around. Very unclear.
she tried to teach an entire 7 section chapter in 5 class periods. Which meant no review, and 2 or three Web Assign assignments due at midnight after every class. She also forces us to do "quality solutions" every day, which means you have to solve the problem and explain in detail. And you don't even know if you got it right.
Gives notes but flies through so you don't have a chance to understand what is happening. Sometimes she is condescending towards students but is willing to help if she has to. While getting help she makes it seem like you are wasting her time. I wouldn't recommend unless you already have a firm understanding of the material.
Went by the book, did not give great examples of problems. Web Assign homework was tough and did not correlate with the tests. Expects you to memorize formulas and know how to apply them to the problems (without any helpful hints on how to remember them or cheat sheets). I never opened my textbook and instead used the online textbook on webassign.
Strongly DO NOT recommend her. Writes notes and goes through everything super fast and expects you to know everything. HW load was a lot and doesn't even give you enough chances on WebAssign. Also gets annoyed and acts like she's doing you a favor when you go during office hours. Barely replied to email and posts everything late. Disappointing.
Pretty hard class. Ending up doing well after I was expecting an F.
Teaches material in a very by the book way which makes it sorta hard to understand since she isn't very good at teaching the material in a way that everyone can understand
Kroschel is not the best teacher, you will have to spend hours in the Math and Resource Center to get help and understand what she's teaching in class. You will have to teach most of the course to yourself. The tests are extremely difficult, she had to give a retake on exam two because the class average was a fail. Prepare for hours of homework.
A good professor. Presented material well and covered pretty much everything needed for the actuarial exam FM, including derivatives, and forwards etc. Expect lots of homework and to work hard. She was very understanding when I had family matters that made me fall behind in homework. Allowed test redo for half credit back on the wrong problems.
There is a lot of homework for sure, so the class isn't easy in that regard, however she really wanted to help you succeed, which was great.
Quizzes every day of class that you cannot make up, which is pretty frustrating. Also, about 3-4 hours of homework every night without any time to study for midterms. This, to me, was my easiest class conceptually but also the one I spent the most time on, which I don't like.
She's a very relatable person and is friendly. Homework she doesn't grade herself and it is almost impossible to get full credit on it. Expect a lot of homework.
Spend time on homework, especially the conceptual. She is very specific about language in proofs which can seem harsh but if you put in the effort you'll get a solid foundation. Exams aren't too bad if you have some understanding of the concepts. Don't take her class if you aren't willing to work hard.
She is a very difficult professor. She requires a lot of homework- typical of calculus. Her tests are more difficult than they need to be as she is much more concerned with analytical thinking than she is about the math itself. Her lectures are hard to follow but if you have a strong math background you will be able to figure it out yourself.
I worked 10x harder in this class than in any other of my classes. If you miss even one day of class, good luck. She makes you teach yourself the material, and her lectures in class aren't really that helpful either. It was so beneficial to meet with her during office hours, and she really makes herself accessible. WORK HARD and she notices.
Dr. Kroschel is a tough professor. She expects you to have strong background knowledge coming into the course. I highly recommend taking full advantage of the outside resources offered such as the MARC and going to her office hours as often as possible. Tests are difficult, daily quizzes are given, and a LOT of homework.
Honestly, one of the best profs I've ever had. She's tough, but it's college.
Way to much homework. All of the homework is graded. Very bad way to teach.
She will help you with any problems that you have in the course. Just talk to her. She makes a lot of time for students, and she is willing to go the extra mile for those who have math fears.
Should be fired. I would rather shovel horse crap into my mouth for an hour than sit through her hour long class full of garbage. If you receive her as your teacher, immediately drop the class.
There is daily graded homework. Lectures are on chalkboard and the next assignment is handed out in class so you need to be there. She is approachable and willing to explain concepts. She is also very understanding if you have trouble with the online homework.
She is thorough and concise. I feel she explains the information really well. It makes it easy to pick up on the material
She gives WAAYYYYY to much homework, like 5-7 different assignments for each class period AND she adds onto the assignments herself. Attendance isn't mandatory but you have to turn in homework IN CLASS to get credit. She expects you to teach yourself the material and come to class knowing fully what she is talking about. 10/10 would NOT recommend.
lectures can be confusing, lots of hard homework, hard tests. Overall a really intense class. There is extra credit opportunity and quiz retakes though. you cant skip a class, its so hard to recover from plus you only get hw credit if youre in class. She's intense, but actually very nice. Accessible outside of class and values hard work
Does not explain ANYTHING in class and gives about 3 homework assignments every day and expects you to learn everything from just the textbook. Just scary. Worst math class I have ever taken. Would not recommend this prof. to ANYONE. Save yourself an awful and torturous semester of calc and take someone else.
There is a lot of homework, but it prepares you for the test. Professor Kroschel provides study resources for the exams and offers retakes for the quizzes. She covers a lot of material in class, but is willing to go more in depth during office hours if it is confusing.
Have 4 assignments each night before the next class so you can't procrastinate. I struggled following along with some of her lectures but I found her office hours to be very helpful. She is a better 1 on 1 teacher than when she lectures to the whole class.
Nearly every time I have heard her talk to students, she uses this high-pitched antagonizing voice and disapproving facial expression. She has no respect at all for those under her authority. As far as tests/quizzes/assignments go, make sure you know EXACTLY what she wants, because even if you're right, she will try her very best to penalize you.
If you like 5 assignments a day, with a hint of labs that she never bothers to explain, and the additional pain in the ass of her losing homework or forgetting emails that you've sent to her then 1. Get help, and 2. Sign up for Brenda Kroschel's class ASAP.
The homework is hard, and there's a lot of it. Very difficult to get full credit on proofs as she kind of expects you to know how to do them without much instruction. Lectures are fast paced. Even if you're good at math, be prepared to work hard. She's very helpful during office hours, and the exam questions are easier than the homework.
If you like working for 5 hours on homework everyday that is nothing like the exams then boy oh boy this is the class for you
This class gave me the most homework that I have ever received from a class. Be ready to spend more time outside of class than you would anticipate, because there are many different types of assignments due. I'd also suggest going to her office hours if you do not understand one of the many proofs assigned.
I liked Dr. Kroschel, she has a great personality and was funny. Her lectures are understandable if you pay attention or read in advance. Her exams can be difficult because she tests you on nearly every single detail and is a hard grader not only on exams but everything else.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. Her lectures are very fast and she assumes you understand everything right away. Her tests are incredibly hard and she expects you to know how to use Mathematica. I spent countless nights working on homework for 8+ hours and I definitely would not have passed this class without my Chegg subscription.
She is understanding & reasonable, & her lectures are concise and comprehensive. My only complaint is that she assigns a TON of homework, which can make it hard to learn the material, but she is extremely open for office hours; GO TO THEM. Regardless, she has a great curriculum and is really capable. I recommend her, but be ready to put in the work
There is a lot of work for MATH200. Just accept it and move on. From a teaching standpoint, once you get used to Dr. Kroschel she is open and willing to help you. Don't fall behind and you'll get through it, but the class is very challenging.
She is super smart and knows what she's talking about, but her lectures go pretty fast so make sure you ask questions. She is a super busy prof, but has plenty of different times for office hours, its just crowded trying to get into her office hours.
very challenging class but if you know calc it isn't the worst.
She can get very demeaning at the beginning by demanding you still remember concepts you may not have learned in years but just turns into a basic lecture after that. Definitely do all the homework and try to study before the tests but be prepared to watch videos on different concepts because she does not always do the best explaining.
I've taken this course before, and Professor Brenda Kroschel is one of the best and nicest professors at St. Thomas. She is very understanding and doesn't deserve the bad reputation she has here. She truly wants her students to succeed if they put effort into it.
THE most condescending person I've ever met. She doesn't answer questions, makes you feel dumb, calls you out in front of the whole class for no reason, and doesn't explain very well. You work in groups, and it doesn't even help. Doesn't help you during office hours and WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING EVEN IF YOU NEED HER TO GRADUATE ON TIME.Lot of hw.
As far as class material this it is pretty standard. As far as being taught, I feel like I had to teach myself most of it. She assigns readings that are usually not helpful, and I think most people never do them. In class, she flies through her lecture,s leaving me confused most days. Tests and homework were not awful, but I would not recommend.
Differential equations is a pretty tough class so I'll cut her some slack, but you have to participate in class and do practice questions/homework to understand it and get a good grade. I did good in the class but rarely got a perfect grade on anything. She's kind of average as a professor in the math department but definitely better than Rogers.
Just don't take her. Please don't take her. HOW IS SHE STILL HERE??
