Brenda is a tough marker. She expects that the citations in papers are literally perfect, and expects nothing less, docking substantial marks for any mistakes. Her classes are "technology free", so no laptops for notes which kinda sucks. Her class slides were not online either so you have to show up 100% of the time. Overall ok prof, just be ready.
Brenda is an extremely tough marker. She also expects perfect citations and referencing. If you have poor grammar, spelling, or anything of the sort, prepare for a long semester. She expects above and beyond to get more than a satisfactory grade and is not very lenient regarding this. However, she is a good lecturer and is nice to speak to.
Brenda is a nice person, but she has high expectations. Business Communications is a relatively simple class, but sometimes she contradicts what she says regarding grading criteria. She will say one thing in class but then mark it wrong on the assingment.
Brenda is very nice and is a great professor. She is a tough marker but that pushes you to go beyond your knowledge and strive for success. She is preparing you for the real world and excels at it. Go Brenda!
Brenda is an extremely knowledgeable prof. Although her class can be difficult at times, she is very accessible outside of class and always willing to help.
Great professor, but a hard marker. Gives great notes
Brenda is a tough grader but she excels when explaining concepts regarding business communication.
Very nice person but tough marker. If you are looking for a prof who is great at lecturing she is the jack of all trades.
Great prof.... but terrible when it comes to grading. Recommendation: Don't take her.
Brenda is very kind and knowledgeable, and her class is not painful to sit through. However, beware! She is an extremely tough grader, I was shocked when I got back what should have been an easy assignment and got a C. I put in more effort for the next couple assignments and presentation for A's but it did not come easy. Be prepared to work hard.
Horrible.
Good Lecturer, she knows her stuff. The problem I have with Brenda is that she is an extremely hard marker. Her grading system is harsh, she literally expects everything to be perfect. I don't recommend you take her if you want to receive a good grade.
Hands down the worst prof i've ever experienced in my four year degree. Not only is she an unfair grader, but she also discriminates specific students. She will slap you with academic misconduct if you make the slightest referencing error. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Is Brenda a tough marker? Yes. Does she expect you to show up and put in the work? 100%. Will she make you a better writer? ABSOLUTELY. And she's actually great to talk to during and after class. I wish I could take more classes with her. Don't be afraid of the work- that's what you're here for - and you'll be better for it.
Yes, Brenda is a tough grader. However, some students don't realize that she actually provides a rubric for any paper that students have to write. If you follow instructions and not plagiarize, you will definitely ace her writing assignments. She is very professional during class discussions and shows comprehensive understanding.
My experience with Brenda was absolutely awful, she slapped my group with academic misconduct on our first paper ever and the mistake was minor. Her lectures are good but overall you'll have to do most of your studying out of the textbook. Overall she is a crazy hard marker, not a very nice lady, and will not hesitate to write people up.
My experience with Brenda Lang was terrible. She is by far the most strict teacher I've ever had. I found that she is extremely sexiest . She grades based on her outlines, although they can be confusing at times. I feel she treated my group very disrespectfully based on very common mistakes. Over all an awful teacher and would not recommend!
I would highly NOT recommend taking her class. The way assignments are graded for the work you do does not make sense. You are required to write 5 Workshop assignments, but your mark is not based at all on your assignment. Instead your mark is based off of you critique of another students Workshop Assignment. Hard marker and boring lecturer.
Strict & at times vindictive. Class mate had to leave during a lecture to work on project, she confronted them in front of the class saying she was going to hold them to a higher standard than everyone else. I've also had my issues with her. Talks down to students. Teachers should be fair and equitable, not petty. Knowledgeable but impersonal.
Will dock marks every chance the prof gets. Do not recommend taking one of her courses.
Tooooo muchhhh worrrrkkkk, like holy cow, there is very little u can do increase your mark, but very easy to lose your marks over a petty feedback thing. And the final report, might as well just drop out becuase u ain't seeing a mark over a c
Some reviews are pretty harsh, but I personally like her. She is a tough grader, but I also followed close attention to her instructions and her rubric is always detailed. I typically always got an A. I'v taken her more than once, and she is always very sweet. Strict about electronics - Normally a zero electronic class.
I submitted a more positive review based on my experience but I'm editing it now to be more objective, she does deserve to have a lower score due to her lack of commitment to helping her students and she can come off as rude and ruin your motivation to learn.
Brenda is an amazing professor and was able to teach me a lot. HOWEVER, if you do not write good papers or use citing 100% correctly you will struggle in the course. study hard and memorize well for tests and it'll pay off. make sure to go to lecture as she talks a lot and it's not on the slides. also no technology but writing was easier anyways.
The worst teacher of MRU. She doesnt have any quality that a professor has. I regret taking her class. Not energetic at all. She has her favourites. If she doesnt like you, she tries her best you fail the course. Avoid her. Dont waste money on her class. Its better if you take this course with another teacher.
Brenda doesn't have the quality to become a professor at all. She is not very responsive to her E-mails and she's rude. Her instructions were not very clear. Good luck getting any letter grades above C-. She will do all of her best to make you fail the class. Don't waste your money, time and stress. MRU needs to check her performance and behaviour.
incredbily rude and condesending. very hard to approach or participate in her lectures as she always has something negative or critial to say. tough marker.
For someone who teaches a class on communication Brenda manages to come off as condescending every time she sends an email. Online is difficult enough without profs like Brenda. She clearly does not care if her students succeed and will try her best to make sure you feel worthless while you are in her class. Do not take her.
Brend Lang was hands down the worst prof I have ever had. Online classes were 30 minutes a week and she never actually taught course content so it was completely a waste of time. Would not recommend her as a prof.
Brenda does not have the quality to become a professor at all! She does not teach in class, she solely relies on her slides and textbooks. She doesn't teach in class at all. She will tell you that your grammars are not being marked for the class but she will. The way she marks is very unreasonable. She will make you feel like you are worthless.
Avoid Branda at all costs. She will give you more feedback about giving feedback instead of how to improve your writing skills. Also it's never about grammar, until you make a grammar or formatting mistake... Then it's literally an F for one mistake. She doesn't even follow her own formatting guide. She requested formal report and then graded wrong
I am telling you know, don't take this profs class. Brenda is truly the worst prof I have ever taken at MRU. I took her class in September 2020 (online) and she only taught 8/26 classes and the rest we needed to read her PowerPoints with 2 sentences on each slides. Marks extremely hard and don't expect anything higher then a C, I do not recommend!!
Avoid at all cost!!! Brenda is a horrible prof, I am not sure how she isn't fired yet. During this online semester she barely taught anything, the rest was read her slides with little information. During group projects her feedback is only "grammar" and nothing to do with project. When you emailing her, she will try just start a fight over anything
If you want a class that you have little help from the prof and with the only feedback about grammer, you're in luck. Brenda has used covid as an excuse not to do her job and not teach her students. She sends nasty emails and she doesn't tell her class what the averages are on each assignments. Probably because except a C grade, A&B's don't exist!
Brenda is passionate about one thing: making sure that you do not receive an A. She will be very picky when she grades your reports, midterm, and presentation. She does not give individual feedback and will not reply to your email if it is not "structured" properly. Her expectations are ridiculous. If you want a good mark, take another prof.
Absolute horrible teacher DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!!!! During a pandemic she is not understanding of how hard it is and continues to make rude and passive aggressive comments. Super stingy marker will take a high percentage away if you dont hand in as a microsoft word doc even though its to expensive for students to afford.
Awful professor, she is very rude and does not help students at all. When she makes a mistake it's not a big deal but if you do then you will get ripped for it. Her marking is all over the place she just wants you to think like her.... she also didn't teach much of anything all semester.
Absolute worst prof ever! She will not hesitate to report you to SLS even if you did not make the mistake she thinks you did! 0/10 do not take her class if you want good marks
Its very possible that depending on your peer reviews (even if you get a favorable review equating to above 70%), you yourself will receive a low grade even if the assignment was graded high. Say the assignment is a B and your peers give you 70%, she'll multiply 0.75 with 0.7 and give you a D- for it. Utter nonsense.
The worst class I have ever taken in my life. She doesn't teach anything, is extremely rude to students, and takes off marks just to ensure no body gets grades above a 70. I heard rumours about her class but thought it wouldn't be that bad so i took it... its THAT BAD. 0/10 recommend. DO NOT take this class with Brenda.
Brenda is terrible. Avoid her at all costs. She is an extremely hard marker, unreasonable, and extremely rude. If you are a person who likes to be treated well, Brenda will not be good for you. She does not explain all of her expectations for projects, therefore it is almost impossible to do well in her class. Seems like she wants students to fail.
Brenda seems like a nice person. But her grading is a different story. Out of all the things I submitted I was expecting at least a B+, but they always came back as a C- or a C. The group project was with 5 people in their 3rd or 4th year we still got a C- even after contacting her with questions. The criteria on assignments are confusing as well.
She does not respond to emails and is very reluctant to help her students with questions. She has a pride issue and if you were to receive an unfair mark, She would not go back and change it because that would mean that she was wrong.
I checked reviews on Brenda before this class, making me more nervous starting this semester, but went in with a positive attitude. But those other reviews are very accurate. She made this class seem harder than it should've been. She doesn't answer emails or questions outside of school hours which is very inconvenient. She's is a very hard marker
I don't have a good review because I dropped her during the first class, lol
I'd rather get taught by a stone statue at least I'll learn something. I'm not even a week into the course and I already wanna throw myself off a cliff. Literally if you don't do one small thing on the assignment she gonna give you a 0. Everyone who has given a good rating is the stupidest person I've ever seen
Brenda may be the most unfair professor I have come across throughout my studies. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. I would rather transfer schools then be taught by her again. She is rude to students, and marks extremely hard. She doesn't want to help students, and it seems like she wants students to fail which is so sad to see.
BRENDA IS SO RUDE! She was constantly referring me to SLS every time I email her. The way she says it is so insulting! She never taught anything in class and she gets irritated so easily! AVOID HER AT ALL COST. Her purpose is to fail and mentally abuse you with condescending responses. I'm surprised she's not fired yet!
Brenda is hands down , the worst prof I have ever come across . Absolutely avoid her at all costs . Super rude , is not willing to help . Handed out an academic misconduct on the slightest error . Her goal is to watch you fail , good luck getting higher than a C. This class was supposed to be super easy , turned out to be the hardest because of her
nit picks on every detail, dont take her
Unbiased, non-emotional review: Brenda is clearly intelligent and knows the topic very well. She goes in-depth in lectures and assignments are very detailed. But they are too detailed, incredibly confusing and most of the requirements are irrelevant. We messed around for 3 months just to cram 95% of the work into 2 weeks of class.
I thought I should give her a chance after reading all the rating, and here I am had to drop her class. Other ratings were all true. Please avoid her! She is way too rude, and very nitpick. A tough grader as well. Class was boring, and clearly she doesn't care about her students, whether they have a low mark. Just don't take MGMT 2130 with her.
The way she teaches the class is extremely dry. Most of the slides she shows in class are irrelevant to the assignments. Shes obviously very passionate about business but her teaching skills are brutal, not sure why she is a professor to begin with.
Ive been at MRU for 4 years now and I havent had a professor like her. You can follow all her instructions and she still wont be satisfied. For our group assignment we did exactly what she recommended and somehow got a F for it. I would not recommend this prof to anyone at the university. Wait a semester for a different prof if you have to.
Save yourself the time, and take literally any other prof for this course. Terrible grader, she would be the type to take off marks on a paper for using a 2H instead of HB pencil. She ignores emails and is very rude and condescending.
Literally the rudest proff I've had yet, Will take marks off anything for the fun of it. Just reads off her PowerPoint, you do the learning yourself via reading the textbook. Do everything you can to not take her management class, she will ruin your semester. Also has an attitude on some days for no reason.
There is a lot of reading required and there isn't a lot of clarification Brenda can offer via email. Everything is weighted rather hard towards the larger group projects, which our team didn't do great on - this caused us to drop from an 85 to a 60. Use your Writing Critique as a baseline: If you get lower than a C, consider withdrawing.
Lectures are boring and useless but the biggest issue is that she grades the major assignments way too hard. She is vague with what she expects for certain assignments and then takes off a lot of marks for small issues.
Dont take any class with Brenda. Incredibly hard marker, has quizzes before the lecture on that particular topic. Freaked out on a student for taking a picture on a slide with the date of an exam on it (claiming it to be her property). Insanely unreasonable when email or asking for help. Her literal purpose is to make you fail.
If I could give a 0/5 I would. By far the worst and rudest prof I've ever had. She was almost impossible to get a hold of if you have questions outside of class and gave the most unclear instructions for assignments that are worth huge portions of your final grade. Don't waste your time taking a class with her
Please take this course if you want to get an easy -F for the class. She is the toughest marker and is not a good communicator. She won't talk to you unless you book an appointment. Most of my classmates failed, so did I. The highest mark in my class was 61
I would give her a -2/5 if I could give her that score. Please don't take this class if you want to pass the class.
She will degrade you for not going to class. She marks terribly hard. She is hard to access - for a communications major she sure is terrible at communication. Unclear expectations for papers; will hide hints in the papers outline; wont clarify what students are supposed to do. Do not take this prof she has been worth nothing to my education.
Brenda is the worst professor I have had at Mount Royal. Not only was she impossible to get ahold of, but when entering the final grades for my friends and I on MYMRU she entered two or one letter grades below the actual grade. As I was about to email her about this my final grade suddenly changed (a week after she said the final grades are up).F!
Brenda is a fantastic professor. Any problems I had she was quick to resolve the issue. The information I learned in this class will carry on with me for the rest of my life. Despite her poor reviews Brenda is very kind. This course is simple (follow instructions) and you will receive a good grade. Put in the work and you will do well!
Brenda's class will separate the serious students from the ones who don't take academics seriously - a reality check!! I guarantee you that the majority of these bad reviews are from students who couldn't rise to the challenge. While the class can be intense, if you show her you care and actually give a solid effort, she will help you succeed!
Take the class seriously, participate and you'll be fine! She is a tough marker, but that's an important lesson that you'll be grateful for moving forward. She's real but fair.
Avoid her like the plague. She does not teach anything original herself. Everything is done through a program she uses. So the moment you deviate from her strict outline and she cannot just scan the paper to grade it, she gives a 0. She is insanely strict for how little work she does. Easily the worst professor at mru. Why is she a prof?
Do not take this class at all costs! I read ratemyprof before taking her and thought maybe these people were wrong. Well guess what they are not! This class was horrendous and she is honestly the worst teacher I have had since Kindergarten no joke! I did everything she suggested before a test and still got a C?! I do not understand her logic lol?!
I first crossed paths with Brenda in my first year at Mount Royal in 2019 for Intro to Management. She was the most difficult prof to communicate with, and she will not hesitate to give a 0% on assignments with any kind of mistake with APA referencing. Her personal hygiene could also use some attention.
Very hard marker, had multiple people tell me they failed her class due t=to her group project she makes you do. Even when you ask for help and do everything she says she still marks it horribly. You can get away with not going to her class because even asking for help doesn't get you a better mark. expect to barely pass
This class was a course requirement for me and I wish I had never taken it. The entire course is about writing emails which should be simple (this class is not hard), she somehow makes that difficult for EVERYONE. I would rather wait a year and find another prof then have to take any course taught by her. also, her lowkey gender politics is stupid.
Would not recommend this class to my worst enemy.
A class that should be easy and straightforward was turned into an absurdly tedious one. There is no room for nuance or compromise it is either her way or the high way. You have to follow her guides to the letter or you will be docked marks heavily turning what should be a B into a C-. I would strongly recommend taking this class with anyone else.
Brenda is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my 3 years at MRU. She is so incredibly picky and unforgiving when it comes to grading assignments. She is not willing to reconsider poor marks, and is not nice. Listen to these bad reviews and take this course with any other professor available.
Listen to the reviews and find a different prof. Expect a low B to a high C at best on every assignment. The final project was unclear and unrelated to the course. It seems like lots of people stopped coming to class. She also seems to like accusing students of plagiarism.
She has a bad review on here and I understand why, but I had a great time in her class. As long as you work hard, ask lots of questions, and listen to EVERYTHING she says, you can do well in this class. Brenda was a pleasure to talk to and was great at answering my questions. None of her classes are for easy marks, so work hard and you'll be fine.
Brenda Lang is an alright professor as long as you ask questions and understand her expectations. There were many times where I could have taken a huge hit to my overall grade but after asking many questions and ensuring I understood what she wanted, I did fairly well. There was no final for my class, so the few projects had hefty weightings.
One of the worst profs ive ever had. Not only is she a really hard marker, but she is also not the best when it comes to teaching concepts in class.
This professor tried to divide our class on the issue of masking in early 2022. Those choosing to wear a mask had to sit on one side, those choosing to not wear one sat on the other. She also tried to have the maskless students not approach her. The only reason she could not enforce this rule was because the department chair was contacted. AVOID.
Brenda confuses me. She's nice to talk to in class, but she will not hold back when it comes to grading. In many of her assignments, she gives you the option to choose what you want to write about/ the style you want to write in, yet when I got my grade back, she criticized my choices. She also has many errors in her own assignment instructions.
If you show up to class, she'll show lots of respect and kindness toward you. A lot of reviews say she is a tough grader and she is when it comes to format and citation. Brenda provides detailed instructions for the format, so follow it exactly. Apart from that, the textbook (~$40) is optional but can be helpful with content and paper formatting.
My group put so much effort into our group project. We stayed up every night till 12 for a week straight, working on our project. We wanted to ace the project. We were so confident and excited to get our grades back. Until Brenda let out her anger into grading our project, I was shocked at how rude some of the comments she wrote were. Avoid.
If you can, absolutely do not take class with this professor. She is a really tough grader, and super strict on her rules and instructions. She gives extremely low marks without giving proper detailed feedbacks that can help you improve or do better. This should've be an easy class, but instead it brought my GPA down.
Without a doubt Brenda is the absolute worst educator I've ever had in my life. The course should be the easiest A of your life. It's almost impressive that she found a way to make it the most convoluted and unnecessarily pretentious class of all time. No clear grading criteria, brutal course layout. Do not take this course with her, ever.
I thought Brenda was a nice professor but she does mark very hard. Her assignment guidelines are extremely detailed and strict. If you ask questions, put in the work, and read her guidelines carefully you can do ok. This class is a lot of work so be prepared. I recommend reaching out to students who have already taken this course for advice!!
What a joke. Never in my life have I had such an unserious prof. Brenda will not care about your learning. She will judge you with that "masters" of hers.
Honestly I have no respect for Brenda. If I knew how difficult of a person she is and how rude she is, I would have never taken her damn class. I cannot explain the amount of rage I have for this lady.
While brenda makes it fairly clear of her expectations, I find she is very difficult for a course that is taught at the 1st/2nd year level. Brenda is a tough grader and looks to dock marks wherever she can on the bigger assignments and group projects that are associated with the course. While she is friendly and means well, I would avoid her.
The most disgusting professor at MRU. She is the program coordinator so good luck going to get your stuff remarked. She told me I should not be a student because Im a mother. She does not have a PhD so therefore should not be a program coordinator.
Hard marker and big ego
So liberal
Underrated Prof. Brenda gives great feedback, and will always help you if you ask. People who complain about her are just lazy and are the ones who don't show up to class. Show up, ask questions, and listen to feedback. Do all of these things, and you'll do well.
Stay away! She has 2 assignments, 10 chapter quizzes and then the midterm and final. The midterm beware of formatting as well as providing more than one example because you will get 0's on those sections. She also has a late policy that is 10% every day, even if you submit it in a couple minutes after 10 am. Minor errors will cost you your grade!!
If you can show up to most classes, and ask her for feedback you're fine. My class had of over 30 got less than 10 each session and people were failing open book midterms. Not many opportunities for grades but they were easy enough if you ask for feedback. Nice prof but she is a strict marker. If you got under a B its a skill issue
She is a very nice professor, she makes jokes. However, she is the hardest marker I have ever had at MRU. Her criteria for the format of assignments are ridiculously specific and if you don't follow every last detail it is over. This class should've been a grade booster however it's the lowest average I've ever received in a university class.
Undoubtedly the worst professor at MRU. If possible take anyone but her
Had her as a prof back in the Winter of 2022. Would not recommend whatsoever as she is a insanely hard marker and is known to accuse others of plagarism
very good
She is respectful but you find yourself failing because of the smallest little nit picky that she somehow finds. Literally no one in my class is getting anything above a B because of her marking
Please take this into deep consideration: Do not take this class with her if you can avoid it. I have always been a straight-A student but her class has failed to acknowledge my strong abilities as a writer and presenter. She's overall rude and insincere and gives the most nitpicky feedback you could imagine. It certainly is not realistic.
DO NOT make the MISTAKE I DID.I wish I had listened to the horrible reviews. She is a nice woman at first but she is deceitful and makes it impossible to do well in her class. She is an extremely harsh marker and doesn't give great feedback when you need help. If you take this class PLEASE, do it with ANYONE BUT HER!!
This professor is incredibly nitpicky and harsh when marking. Me and my group were docked marks on the final presentation because we introduced ourselves with only our first names. This professor will look for any reason to take off marks. LISTEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWS AND AVOID THIS PROF AT ALL COSTS!!
In my rightful opinion, Brenda Lang is not suitable to be a professor. Her teachings are insightful but confusing because they are miscommunicated due to contradictions between the textbook, her content instructions, and her verbal instructions. On top of this, extremely harsh grading. 1 tiny mistake takes an unfair portion of your grade.
I see a lot of negative posts about Brenda, but I genuinely had a good semester with her. Her tests were easy as long as you took note of what she said in class, and her small assignments were easy grade boosters. She is a tough marker. I will agree with that. If you put in the work, you'll do fine. If you participate in class, you'll do fine.
Hardest marker I've ever experienced at MRU! Insanely egotistical and excessive mark deductions for small mistakes. Take this class with another prof if you want anything above a B!
You've read the reviews. Do not take the class with her. This is a class about how to write business emails, and Brenda makes it soooo much more complicated than it needs to be. Her feedback on assignments is ridiculously nitpicky and she expects that this class if everyone's number one priority. Just save yourself and take it with someone else.
This was the worst class, the worst prof and the worst mark I ever received during my degree.
Worst prof and person I have had the unfortunate experience of running into during my years at MRU. Avoid at all costs and save yourself and your mental health before its too late. Egotistical and has a god-complex view on herself. Shouldn't be allowed to teach probably ever again..
Read the reviews do not take her class.
You have to attend the class and participate if you want to get an A. She is a hard marker and is pretty rude at times but if you get on her good side then it's an easy A. It's nice with no final exam but instead a group project. However, no peer reviews which sucks if you got a bad group like I did.
I originally gave her a one star, she wrote me up for plagiarism and gave me a 0 on a term paper however, when Brenda and I met to discuss what happened, she was extremely understanding that it was accidental, and was really understanding to my situation and dropped the charge. So for that I change my ratingvShe truly has a kind heart deep down
The reviews are right.
Worst professor to walk the face of this earth. She is utterly egotistical and has absolutely zero regard for her student's mental health & well-being. Truly unfortunate this robot of a human being is part of the MRU Faculty. This is a class on how to properly write emails... not too sure where her god complex comes from!!!
AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
If you take her, good luck. She can make a very easy class become the hardest class of your semester
Professor Lang has a reputation for being a tough grader, but if you stay on top of the work and participate in class, you can do well. The group project is helpful, and tools like unstuck AI can aid with study prep. It's a challenging but worthwhile course.
Brenda sets clear expectations & gives specific feedback. I liked the in-class case studies discussions. The course isn't complicated—read her rubrics, ask questions if confused. Be prepared if you want to do well. I personally enjoyed her strict standards & clear lectures. Talk a little for participation. Avoid if you are sensitive.
No idea how she still has a job at MRU considering how terrible her rate my prof score is.
