Puck is a very inconsistent teacher who does not have the knowledge, teaching ability, or temperament to be a teacher. She is overly vague on her requirements, and then makes up the project specifications after you turn your project in. She plays favorites, and we are still waiting to get our test
****, she teaches to 12 year old girls in the summer and treats her COLLEGE students no different, unclear boring as hell and not even a little bit of fun.
No consistency in grading. Talks on and on about nothing. Tests on concepts not presented in class. She is always late to class. Has a poor attitude, and will not return any grades (tests or assignments) all semester long.
she sucks. not only does she lecture about the same thing in lecture, she treats you like you're a dumb***. Yes, this class is easy, yes this class will put you to sleep

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, oh we have a test may be if the class wasn't so boring I would have known
Talks on and on about nothing, is late to class everyday, the worst teacher I have ever had, never gives assingments back, doesnt know crap about anything worth my time. Do not take her.
Horrible teacher but easy course. Tests on concepts never discussed in class (online powerpoints and websites). Grades projects purely on busy paperwork, NOT what you build. She has been late to class every day this semester, multiple times by more than 10 or 15 minutes.
I have had many teachers in my day but none this terrible. Never on time, always at least 10 mins. late. A lot of busy work that has no relevance to the class. Eight page book report would be fine in a english but not in a design course. No teaching ability, STOUT LISTIN TO YOUR STUDENTS, FIRE PUCK!

boring as all getto...Talks, talks and talks! She does not shut up! She is late and very disorganized. She knows what she is talking about for the most part. Some labs go beyond the time limit so be aware of that!
Sometimes spends literally 5 to 10 minutes fiddling with her computer, trying to make her presentation work. She is teaching some difficult concepts (e.g. steel phases) but is unable to explain them well. She snapped at me in lab when not really needed. Sadly, I'm pretty sure she's doing the best she can.
She is not always clear about whatever hse is talking about but if you have any mechanical knowledge of anything which you should for this class you should be able to understand what she is talking about. I NEVER pay attention in lecture and am getting an A.
Projects that she makes students do are nothing to be proud of. Have little relevance to how industry works. Industry can spend money, and they have a sufficient amount of time. (Yes, I understand there are limits in industry as well.) Waaaay too much out of time class for what you get out of the class
I have yet to figure out how someone can talk about band saw safety for 28 minutes and 17 seconds.
Labs and class are boring. Tests are basically you're only true grade in the class which makes it difficult if you aren't a good test taker. Labs are mandatory as well.
This teacher bores you to death with lectures and seems pretty redundant. The lab projects are kind of fun but you don't learn much, and the class requires WAY too much time and effort for 3 credits. tests are basicly common sense, but worded in ways that make them a bit tough sometimes, and all quizzes are unanounced which i hated.
She is not as bad as others have said. Classes are a little boring at times but there's much worse out there. 110 is an easy class. I would have gotten an A but I skipped out on a lab. She seems like she kind of knows what she's talking about, but not 100%. I wouldn't take her again though.
This class was horrible. Don't think your going to understand what needs to be done, Someone ran out of material half way through the class and just winged the last month, how do you study for that??
I feel she dosent have any real world experiance. Teaches like you are young kids. Not very interesting.
Not very clear about any of the projects. She expects way too much out of you when it comes to documentation and repeats herself constantly. The tests are pretty decent if you take notes and skim the chapters. I would not take her again.
DEATH BY POWERPOINT...
RD 205 is a joke. You learn nothing that is pertinent to your major. I feel like I'm in 1st grade all over again. We are supposed to be learning about design and engineering and we are working with crayons, pipe cleaners, and paper. We don't even get to touch our lab equipment...
the class is a powerpoint lecture. If there were not surprise assignments and the like i would have skipped every class. Also the pop assignment the day before break was a bit mean. the assignment mad sure you could only get credit if you were there. Tests did not follow lectures.
A lot of work for a 3 credit course. The projects are very time consuming and she assigns one after the next. Grades very hard on projects. Lectures are boring with PowerPoint slides, but attendance is mandatory. She tends to do pop quizzes on Fridays or right before tests. Tests are relatively easy and mostly common sense. I would not recommend he
One of the most pointless classes ever. At least for a Tech Ed degree. Her lectures are boring. Projects are to put it plainly: stupid. It's basically busy work. I can understand this for design and engineering students but not for a teaching degree.
Projects were very time consuming, and totally busy work. Grading was hard. In class was just a bore! Nothing but a standard cookie cutter powerpoint every day. It also took AGES to get grades back!!!! We didn't get our grades from the 1st project until after the 3rd was already turned in! I suggest to avoid Brenda like the plague!!
She is a joke of a teacher. she never hands out rubrics on time and they make no since. To bad that she is like the only teacher that teaches the class.
im tired, because ALL I DO IS WORK ON RD 205 PROJECTS ALL THE TIME
I never have been so disappointed with a design class. At one point we had at least 5 different projects going on at the same time! There also is a lack of communication for when projects are due and what she is looking for for assignments. I suggest taking the class with someone other than Brenda if at all possible.
Brenda did a terrible job teaching this class. Once we got into using AutoCAD she just threw assignments at us. I was lucky enough to have experience with CAD, but for others, it was difficult. She didn't spend anytime actually teaching how to use the program
One of the worst things about her lecture is that she rushes through all the slides so you can hardly write anything down. She REFUSES to put up the slides on D2L. Really need to pay attention to what she says to do well on quizzes and tests. Overall...TERRIBLE
Brenda is a horrible teacher. She will kill you with power point lectures. She is very inconsistent with when things are due. At one point in the class I had 4 assignments due the next day. She WILL NOT put any slides on D2L. She also "forgets" to enter grades a lot, so check your grades as much as possible. Horrible teacher.
she is an absolutely useless teacher. she piles on multiple large assignments at one time along with the semester long project. she has no comprehension of how to actually teach. the class is supposed to be 4 hrs of lab and 1 hr of lecture per week and it's completely opposite. if you have to take this class, find a way to get a different teacher
She posts everything on D2L now but she is still a terrible teacher. She will blab on about everything except the important things you need to know and she will pile assignments on top of you for the entire semester
Brenda is a very smart lady but when she is teaching she treats you like a middle schooler. She has tons of assignments and multiple projects at once. She tends to be very unclear about assignment details and due dates. It is best to get on her good side quick, it will affect your grade, she likes people that seem to like her class.
What can I even say? She doesn't deserve a job as a teacher (college professor no less) and I'm not sure what's worse, the fact that she refuses to change or the fact that Stout doesn't do a thing about it.
Vague with directions.Discourages creativity(Inhibitive/hindering).Assignments are not well thought out.Leaves doors open but closes them when questions are asked.Demanding of long repetitive, overlapping assignments.Doesn’t teach, just reads ppt's.Rarely on time. You must use the provided materials, even if you know better!Talks as though in preschool
By far the hardest class i have ever taken. I have a 3.6 GPA and struggled to pass this class. You will have at least 3 assignments due at a time. had to commit about 75% of my effort to this class. Brenda also screws up entering grades on a regular basis and also does not enter them until 4 weeks after they were turned in. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I think this professor has it really rough. The material in the course was VERY difficult. It is basically a different language. However, if you actually talk to her and ask for help she is one of the most caring professors I've ever had. She goes out of her way to help students that want her help.
Don't expect much help from this teacher. Her lectures are long, she's rude, doesn't give much time for homework, skip class and you're screwed, lots of homework and very poor grading system, quizzes are hard, few students respect her. If you get her, I am so sorry.
Brenda really knows the material and will help you if you ask. But she has a bit too much on her plate. She doesn't get your work back to you so you can see what you did wrong, so you repeat the mistakes over and over again. This class was the worst, really hard to keep up and i'm an A student. Do the extra credit!!!!!!!! (it saved me)
Very tough grader. Doesn't explain things very good. Not a very good teacher.
Annoying, disrespectful person who treats you like you're in middle school. Very tough grader.
Brenda gives tons of homework, also does weekly quizzes and weekly CAD assignments. Spends a lot of class time lecturing concepts but grades you on application of work. Class is hard but if you take advantage of her office hours she will help you. I also recommend using the tutor if you will be taking this class.
Ugh, Brenda pounds you with homework. Willing to help if you need it. Ultimately she's super nit picky on homework and you have to be perfect to get an A. Nice lady just not the best teacher
Assigns pointless work.
Expect to do a bunch of activities but never actually be taught the content. Also expect to read from a garbage textbook about the most boring content accessible to this teacher.
She assigns lots of homework but it is doable (if you don't have any other hard classes). She gives some pointless assignments and her lectures are boring. She told us multiple times "this is a 3 credit class and you are going to have to work for every credit." this isn't a joke. She has some emotion and understanding but fails to give any breaks.
She doesn't seem to realize that students take more than one class per semester. She assigns way too much homework for a 3 credit class, and you will find yourself doing a lot of work outside of class. I made the mistake of taking a tough credit load along with her class. She turned a 3 credit class into an 8 credit class.
Talks down to you. expect to have very nit picky things docked against you while grading. at the end of the day if you play her game you'll get an a
She is unclear about most things, such as what is homework, due dates, and how to do the homework. She tends to be super slow and redundant for the first 3/4 of the class. Then rushes to get the important things said. And this often forces you to go passed the classes end. Overall, she's confusing.
Two things Brenda forgets. This isn't my only class, and it's worth 3 credits. For how much work there is in this class there aren't enough credits earned. Quiz's are due Tues (topics are learned on your own) Assignments are assigned on Tues, Rough Drafts on Thursday and Due on Tues then rinse and repeat. Pay attention be respectful and you'll pass
There is NO late work (even if you talked with her beforehand) with no makeup. All assignments that are turned in online need to be in an hour before class so you don't "rush something" if you forgot to do it. Some important topics are verbal only and not included with her lecture slides. But if you stay on to of your assignments you will be fine.
Brenda is very unorganized and assigns a great deal of unnecessary and mindless work. She is slow at grading projects but gives good feedback, which is often given way too late. I didn't feel like a freshman in collage in her class, I felt like a freshman in high school because she acts like we're 13 years old.
She thinks that every little detail is the most important thing you will ever learn. Class starts slow and boring, while cramming everything important right at the end in 2 minutes.
Not a good professor. She assigns a lot of work and grades kinda hard. She is never accessible outside of class. Defiantly would not recommend.
Worst professor you will have in your life. She acts like we are middle schoolers. When she sees someone on their phone she will literally pause and say "I'll wait" and stare at them just like middle school. Always goes 5 mins past class time. Cant manage her time. All important info will be given in last 5 mins of class. Cant even say 1 good thing
Beware if you are not a freshman with a easy load taking this class.... I took this class along with thermodynamics and other dificult engineering courses, and this was by far my hardest class. There is absolutely no reason why a 100 freshman course should have soo much mindless work,
very horrible when it comes to what she expects out of you for homework/instructions. She's not very clear at all and tends to change her words. Not to mention that she treats her students as if they are little kids. She tends to blame the students for time wasted in class when its her who is very disorganized with her lecture/course topics.
Not as bad as everyone makes it seem. She's a tough grader and has very specific expectations however if you pay attention in class you get the hang of it. She offers a few extra credit opportunities and I highly recommend taking advantage of them. The tests are much easier to do well on than the homework assignments for the most part.
There is a lot of work to be done in this class. Lots of homework. Not hard stuff but the quantity is a bit much. She likes to teach like she is a high school teacher. Lots of people don't like her, but it will be an easy class as long as you do the work given. The work isn't even that hard, its just more or less busy work and following rules.
class was diaper, once i realized i didnt need to do the exercises i had a lot more time on my hands. Barely taught the actual important bits and would always rush through most of it. Hard to follow, way too much work.
The wise words of Brenda Puck: "I don't repeat things" "I've been using this software for years and I still forget how to use it" "This is a 3 credit course, but you'll do the work of a 5 credit one" "I take attendance every day, and it's worth points" Class runs 5 min late every day, and she teaches the most important info during those 5 min.
Brenda Puck is a terrible college professor. I currently am taking 15 credits (calc3 , physics 1, etc.). This one class alone has more homework and requires more time commitment than all of my other classes combined. The content of this course isn't all necessary, and she runs the class like a middle school classroom.
Very slow-paced lectures. Hard to listen to. The software portion of the class is unbearably slow. Aside from AutoCAD seldom being used in any professional setting, the instruction provided is not geared towards people who learn by doing. If you like being given a specific set of instructions and a specific task to perform, you'll be fine.
Avoid if you can, it is a huge waste of time. Little to no usable knowledge is imparted. The "skills" she shares have next to no value outside of the class and you do NOT get your 3 credits worth of knowledge value for the 5 credits worth of work you will be doing. I do feel as if I have been cheated out of my money by signing up for her class. RUN
First half-hour of every class is "housekeeping". Talks the entire class. Class will run late, she'll blame the class. Spends so much time telling you what you'll do that day that there isn't enough time for detailed lecture, last half-hour becomes crammed speed lecture. Only puts partial lectures online. Knows what she's talking about, tries hard
Wastes so much time with her lectures. Teachers like we are in 1st grade. I had to email her three times to fix a grade on an assignment. Would not recommend it.
Be prepared to read the text book... she wont teach you 90% of the things that will be on the midterms and finals. Also pay attention in class cause if you have questions and need to email her, be prepared to not get any emails back. She is by far the worst teacher to try and get ahold of outside of class.
Puck treats her students like they're in kindergarten. She shows up late to class, spends the first 30 mins doing useless house keeping, and then class always ends late. She over explains simple topics, but will demand you pay attention at all times. You do all your actual learning outside of class from the textbook, or solidworks tutorials.
She doesn't reply to emails, uses her class to push her clubs and "study abroad". Half her classes are about trying to convince you to study abroad or do certain events. She speaks to her students like kindergarteners. It's very annoying. The hardest part of this class will be getting through the lectures and labs without tearing your brains out.
Rambles, keeps the class late, blames the class. Over-lectures on minor topics. She will lose your well thought out and built final project and give you an option to "fill out a form and give you partial credit" just to ignore it and give you a zero. It's always your fault.
honestly, she covered everything well, but the methodology of the class was off. how are you supposed to complete class work, if you dont have class time to do things. you cant effectivly use the lab computers for work, because you may have to take said work home and do it. there was a student that got yelled at for doing work during class hours.
Takes forever to grade assignments. She is awful at responding to emails. I tried contacting her 6 times via email throughout the semester and never got a response. She is rude and condescending in class. She wants your full attention and will stop class to yell at students if they have there laptops open while shes speaking. Take someone else!
She had long, boring, tedious, and easy lectures. I don't think I actually paid attention to one full lecture. In labs or lectures she would be very adamant about makes and making sure you paid attention. It is not a hard class, and personally she was actually pretty lenient and wasn't a hard grader.
Brenda is a very nice person but her teaching skills lack. She gets grades either very quickly or very slowly there is no in-between. I had to wait for the last possible day to get a paper in that she needed to revise to me so I can turn it in. She can answer some of your questions correctly but for the most part, you are mostly on your own.
DOES NOT respond to emails (always gives excuses of "having 200 students"; you'd be lucky to get a response after 3 weeks). Very pretentious and attention-seeking in class. You will be multitasking while listening to her boring lectures and then she will stop and call you out, even though we were just typing our notes or working on assignments
Very numbing to listen to in class (half housekeeping and plugging in woke engineering programs and dumb engineering societies and study abroad). DOES NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS AT ALL. When you have to send reminder emails because something is due and she hasn't helped you yet, you know you have an awful teacher. Take. Another. Professor
She was not very helpful when one of our group members never showed up the whole semester. We did not get a material for our project and she said welp that's too bad so we couldn't even make our project. She was very unhelpful the whole semester.
Lectures in this class are boring and pointless. Brenda likes to use the lecture time to shout out random clubs and brag about her various accomplishments. This is to distract you from the fact that not only does Brenda not have a doctorate, but she doesn't even have an engineering degree (seriously, check Stout's website). Easy class overall tho.
Very well organized and involved with campus activities. Teaches CAD clearly and accessibly. Somewhat strict about people staying off their monitors while lecturing but most of the time its justified because she works step by step. Accommodates people that are sick or snowed in by letting them attend on zoom. Tests are somewhat more difficult
Horrible. Very patronizing and pretentious. This class will be the longest two hours of your life. First 1/3 of class is devoted to drawing by hand. Brenda makes you buy $50 in supplies and then fails you if you use it on any graded material. Spent a week learning how to use ruler scales. Finally quizzed on it over a month later. A joke of a class.
You will dread this class every day because it's boring each and every day. You will do well as long as you show up to class (attendance taken). Surprisingly a lot of extra credit. Finals are hard and have the grammar of a 3-year-old. DON'T BUY THE TRIANGLE TOOL YOU NEVER USE IT. All you really need is a pencil. Glad to be done!
While her lectures are very long and boring, they are informative and useful. Half the semester is spent sketching and half is spent using Solidworks which I enjoyed more. She always responded to my emails and was pleasant to talk to in person. Brought candy on exam days and prepared us well. Also don't buy the triangle tool we never used it.
Unhelpful, boring lectures, doesn't teach what is on the quizzes/exams.
Half the quiz question we took were subjective questions for credit. she don't let you take notes on your computer. whether you go to lecture or not will not affect how well you do on the quizzes.
She is one of the toughest graders. She would look over my CAD projects before I submitted and would give great feedback and say it looked good but would give me 75% max grade on each one. Talks about 3/4 of the period and flies through important parts of Solidworks with little care if everyone was caught up. Worst professor for new solidworks user
Never Emails you back
I would get more out of a concise one-page document than sitting through these lectures. Lectures feel like 30% relevant material and 70% pointless tangents. The canvas organization suffers from the way to common problem of overcomplication, which makes navigating the course a huge headache. Spends way too much time talking about study abroad.
Brenda Puck is the type of professor that you blindly choose and then regret later. The course is split into two parts, drawing and modeling. The drawings serve ZERO purpose for your engineering career, and are graded extremely heavily. She consistently treated the class like middle schoolers and was unclear with assignment deadlines. PLEASE AVOID
Steer Clear
Lectures are almost pointless, strict on homework (even with valid excuse), overall, pretty straight forward class if you do your work, you will do well in the course.
avoid brenda
By far the worst professor at Stout. The drawings in class don't help with anything but graded so hard. You could spend 3 hours on a drawing and still get less than a 50%. Very tight deadlines, and a lot of information you will have to find on your own. Seems like her class is the only one that matters, so get used to having late nights with others
For your sanity, avoid Brenda Puck.
The only great thing about this class was the extra credit. If you have no prior experience to using CAD you're almost out of luck. I wish deadlines weren't so strict especially with how tutoring hours are.
She is a terrible professor. She tells us that our class time is important then proceeds to waste class time with tech issues and overexplaining each slide.
Very hard to work with and is stuck in her ways
For your best benefit, choose literally any other professor. If you're looking for your depression to reach an all time low, then take Brenda's class and start scheduling your therapy appointments now. Seems like she has no respect for students' other commitments in other classes. Be prepared to be mentally exhausted.
Bad lectures, I don't think I learned anything in her lectures. Overall, just a worthless class.
Spends about 1/4 of every lecture talking about how important the information she's about to share is and then goes on pointless tangents for the next half, only to finish by reminding of due dates and what to have ready for lab. the Canvas is convoluted, but I think thats just the nature of the course, it being half lab and half lecture.
While I think Brenda is possibly improving, she is by far the worst professor and educator I have ever encountered. She always claims to be busy and I pray for you if you need a response over email from her. If you miss class she will do absolutely nothing to help you, even if you have a genuine reason.
Do not take Brenda if you value your time. She spends the first 15 minutes of class telling you how important her lectures are and then wastes enough time that she doesn't actually finish the lecture. She simultaneously treats everyone like a toddler and then expects you to communicate like an adult. Just choose anyone else dude.
Seems like she's just there to get paid, literally teaches nothing. Doesn't even have a degree in engineering. If you turn in a late assignment she wont accept it but takes 4 months to grade anything so she clearly doesnt care about time management on her end. Should start a petition to fire her and save future freshmen from her atrocity of a class
The TA grades everything, grades aren't posted on time, requires tons of prior knowledge, no engineering degree yet teaches Engineering Design. Meets with you to “help,” making you feel set up to pass, but you'll probably still fail. The tests don't match what you actually learned, and she doesn't help most students unless you appeal to her.
