Just do the labs and follow the guides for the lab reports. Make sure you have all the points in there, it is not difficult but sometimes time consuming for only a 1 credit hour course
She never seems to know what she is talking about. She goes through her slides to fast and tries to use other examples to help but she makes it worst. DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!!
This professor is a nightmare. Stay away.
this teacher makes examples to biology by using herself. She used herself as an example of obesity and said she had never worked out a day in her life. She has a bad attitude and will ignore you if she doesn't agree with your question. She makes comments that insult your intelligence, she thinks she is god, she acts like an immature, little kid.
She has TA's that can't speak english to save their lives teach the class. Way too much work for a 1 credit course. Quizzes every week and usually long useless labs. I got nothing out of this course. You have to do 2 lab write-ups. Not a fan.
She is horrible! she is bad at explaining and when someone says they don't understand she explains it using herself and confuses us even more! she said her final exam was just a mixture of all tests, i studied all tests and failed. i seriuosly studied my butt off and i got a D for the course. GET OUT if you have her scheduled!
Worst Biology Professor Ever!!!, Her grading scale is awful and and she can't teach definetly wouldn't recommend coming from a study who got an A in Biology 1
Just rushes through the slides and has these ridiculously hard exams. Got an A in Bio(part 1) and im barely pulling a B in this class (first test a C and second one an A). The only reason I'm pulling through is because S.I helps and the S.I instructor seems to care more than the prof.
ok, in my opinion she was a good teacher. did go through slides fast, was in a rush to get everything done. studied my butt off for all her exams thought I understood it, took the exams and did horrible. Her exams are very confussing in my opinion.
I dont know what the person below me was smoking but the final is NOT optional. This teacher was absolutely a waste of my money at UT. I would rather jump off a cliff than ever deal with brenda leady again. thanks for being horrible, leady.
I thought Leady was really full of herself and very boring. I went to class everyday did very well on the clicker questions studied and still got C averages on the test. I had her class at 8am after morning practices and fell asleep alot. there was 1 test everyone failed she paid no attention to. The labs were awesome but its TA's that teach them.
She is one of the worst teachers. She goes through her slides very fast and states her tests are from the slides. However the tests are much more in depth and specific than her notes and lecture. Would stay away if possible.
Leady. OMG. You can tell she loves science, but i don't think she actually likes teaching. She just goes on, and on, and doesn't explain things very well. her exams are filled with material you may have never seen, and you end up going over loads of insignificant information.
Words cant describe how horrible this teacher is. I had to report her to the dean of bio who ignored me because they're friends. She tried failing me twice & lashed out at me when I pointed out her faulty grading errors. She tried to withhold clicker points from me & tried to drop my highest test & keep my lowest to screw my gpa. She is atrocious.
Speeds through slides like no tomorrow. Covered an entire chapter (~90 slides) in about an hour one day. Most of the time you can't follow her lectures. I went to almost all of the SI sessions to reprocess the information and then on top of that studied for at least 5-10 hours for each exam, averaging 75-80 on the exams. Rough, but passable.
Ok, She isn't THAT bad. I mean, yeah, she goes through the slides SUPER fast sometimes, and she does get ALOT done in VERY LITTLE time, but I think she knows what shes talking about. She was very helpful when I went to her to ask about my lab report, and she showed me EXACTLY what to do. Yeah, She's tough, but NOT as bad as what was said below. :)
didn't care whether or not students fully understood the material.
She made me clinically depressed, I had to seek counseling. She scoffed at us in class and did not care whether we failed or passed. She was never willing to help or clarify questions, and could not accept fault for mistakes she made in class (she was wrong with info at times). She was so mean to everyone, I had the worst time of my life with her.
Very bad professor. Does not care if her students pass or fail. She is very full of herself. She loves science but you can tell she does not like teaching. Not helpful with questions. Her exams are really hard. She says the exams are from the slides but they are not, and some of the exams questions are not covered in class.
HORRIBLE professor! absolutely terrible! She is not good at explaining anything at all, although she seems to know what she is talking about, she does not do a good job of teaching. Her tests are terrible and the material you cover in class has nothing to do with the test. GET OUT!
Shes goes through the material way too fast and the SI Session didnt help me at all because so much material is on the tests that its impossible to cover everything and she doesnt use the book.
I really enjoyed the class, but many of my friends did not. Leady is a good teacher, but often was not available for office hours or other appointments. Her exams are directly from her lectures and notes. I found the class to be extremely enjoyable, but I also love biology.
I hated this class!!! I had her at 8am and the days i did go to class had trouble staying awake. Test were extremely hard but she does drop your lowst score although i coud have used several drops. She gives you the notes online so i found it hard to want to go to class. If i could do it over i would take someone else!
Generally considered a pretty poor professor. Had her two semesters in a row. The class isn't too difficult if you go and pay attention. However, that's the hardest part though. She often goes on and on about information because she knows so a lot about it. If you give yourself enough time to review the notes prior to the exams, you should do okay.
She is a very poor teacher. I went for help and she did not help me in anyway possible. She teaches a lot of material, which is ok, but she flips it upside down and switches stuff on the tests. You could study for ten hours on a test and if your lucky get a C on it. Worst teacher I ever had.
All of the people who commented below must have skipped every class and never studied. I honestly loved Brenda. I took her Fall semester for Bio I and got an A so I took her for Bio II again and got another A. All you have to do is memorize the slides and the test is identical. It is pretty basic, no tricks.
She might be too smart for her own good because it is obvious that she knows what she is talking about, however, she tends to go on rants about how much information she knows and it just sounds like a bunch of large jumbled words. Her exams are ridiculously difficult because of the way they are presented. I don't recommend her.
LOVED her class!! Yes, it took a lot of work and studying, but I thought she was a great teacher. She went kind of fast but as long as you go to class and study you should do okay.
all i have to say is ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK, good luck... I am averaging a B which is extremely difficult to pull off anything over a C+... she is great in lecture, but her exams are impossible. definitely take another professor.
She too smart for her own good!!! she wrote our freaking lab book, all she cares about is her money, and since she is getting paid she doesn't care if we pass or fail. Her test our impossible and her review sheets/study guides (if thats what you want to call them) SUCK!!!!!!!
absolutely the worst teacher ever. she races through slides and covers a lot of pointless information that never shows up on exams, which are completely impossible. she claims her exams are based on what she covers in lecture, the powerpoints, and material from the book, but i still haven't seen the connection. don't waste your money on her.
very, very hard.
Her exams are way to difficult. The book will not help you. The slides she presents in class are nothing like the exam material. The clicker questions are also nothing like exam questions. TAKE HARMYCH.!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't have her, but my close friend did. She has come back from this class in TEARS from how heartless this woman apparently is... She LAUGHED when my friend came to her office hours upset that she was failing. (keep in mind, she is a straight A student) DON'T TAKE HER! I TOOK HARMYCH! SHE'S GREAT! stay away from leady unless you want a bad GPA!
this was the first "C" i have EVER received in my entire life!!! i put everything i had into this class and this is what i ended up with! her notes and her tests do not match up!! take harmych!
Brenda leady is not a horrible professor. She is actually very clear - she has great communication skills, and her tests were not that difficult ... you just had to study the material! I got an 88 consistently on her exams, and due to other quizzes and things, I was able to get an A in the class. All in all, pay attention, and you'll be fine.
Everyone complains about her but i didn't think her class was that bad. You go to the lectures, and answer questions with the clickers and thats an easy 10 points. The grading scale is low, and she gives you the test questions prior to the test, just not the answers. I personally liked her as a teacher.
I only had her as a lab instructor, but it was a really easy class. i never had any work to do outside of class and the labs were extremely easy.
She is not as bad as everyone says on here. Given, I'm not much of a science person, so it was a little tricky at times.she is very clear about what is on quizzes and exams. There are study guides for each exam and there is a ton of material on each exam, which was the low point of the course. Too much information to learn for an intro course.
The class itself may require commitment depending on how easy it is for you to understand the material. Very poor with communication. Don't expect to book an office appointment with her. Never answers phone/emails. The material is just basic biology, not too hard.
AWFUL!! never used the textbook its the biggest waste of money it never helped. she doesn't teach she just reads the powerpoint, sorry i can read on my own i don't need you to read it to me. she doesn't explain anything.
AWFUL!! never used the textbook its the biggest waste of money it never helped. she doesn't teach she just reads the powerpoint, sorry i can read on my own i don't need you to read it to me. she doesn't explain anything. SHE SUCKS!!! Horrible not a good teacher at all
she does not care about her students, i went to all the si sessions, and classes. nothing helped. the textbook summary was prob the most useful thing. avoid her by all means necessary
Expects a lot from the students. It was a hard course, but she made it more difficult than it should be. Very hard exams and no curve (worth 90% of grade). Some of her questions are so specific that seem to not test the knowledge of the course, more of memorizing every word in the text book. Very smart lady. Expect many many hours of reading.
The lab manual is very vague and confusing, so you have to rely heavily on the TA to understand what you have to do. The grading mainly depends on who your TA is. Unfortunately, you have no say in who your TA will be.
She uses more pictures than words to explain her topics. Also, her tests are extremely difficult unless you read every word in the book. She expects too much of freshmen
She was a very difficult teacher. She would talk really fast and her nails were super distracting. When the class averages were in the 60s she told students it was their fault every time and their problem to fix it. Quizzes weren't hard, but tedious. Would recommend saving questions from quizzes and homework because those were on the tests.
Worst. Professor. Ever. She was highly distractable in class and she was next to useless in preparing us for tests. She would always blame us if we did poorly, even though next to everyone was failing her tests. It was ridiculous. Avoid her classes at all costs.
She is a ok teacher. She used a lot of pictures in her presentations. Her tests are quite hard too. Read the book and pay attention and you will do fine.
A very difficult class. READ READ READ the chapter before lecture. It helps A LOT. She's nice enough when you talk one on one, but her tests are very difficult and few people did well. Very low test averages throughout the semester. You can not get by without studying for this class.
She is really not as bad as people say. Prior to taking her survey of biology class I was terrified because of all the reviews I had read on this site. She does talk fast and you really have to pay attention in class, but if you do that you'll be fine. Her homework is super easy and her grading scale makes a 70 a B+!
One of the worst professors I've ever had! It's almost impossible to pass unless it's your only class and you study 24/7. Don't take her!
She is not bad at all. The reviews make you fear this class, but I love it. The tests aren't that bad. A little hard but just read the book and do your homework like you would for any class and you will be fine.
It's a tough class for any first year student. There is a lot of material covered in each lecture. I read the chapter before each lecture, sometimes not understanding it. Leady does a fairly decent job explaining the material that I may not have understood in the book during lecture. Exams require a lot of time for studying.
I don't have her for lecture, just for bio lab. Compared to other labs, hers are well designed and have reasonable workload. Also, she actually knows how to write a good lab manual. No fluff, concise, and follows a linear, easy to follow order. HOW REFRESHING
I have taken several of her classes at another school so I was familiar with her teaching style and in 10 years it hasn't changed. She tests mainly over the lecturespower point slides (hints given during lectures on exam material). Participate in discussions and do homework for easy points. There are 3 exams with an optional comprehensive final.
The amount of work needed to succeed is what most consider to be a lot, but its a major's level class. Tests are only hard if you don't pay attention or read the book. So long as you have an understanding of the material and put effort into it, you should do fine. She's always available at her office hours and is willing to help.
Literally said she never has given out an A in her class before. I read, never skipped a class, studied for hours, and did all assignments and still failed her class.
Dr. Leady is a great overall professor. She's very clear on what she teaches, and will create charts and other tools to make studying easier. Tests are straight-forward, and will work with you if you're interested in doing an Honor's Contract. I would highly recommend her!
Alot of people put her down but I really like having her as a teacher and its my second time having her. She knows what shes doing and she does offer help. Her class IS hard and to be honest its just the material she teaches. She does offer advice and provides notes and records her class online. Beware of her talking fast and test kinda challenging
The only reason I did not get an A in this class is because I barely showed up. If you go, and watch her online lectures before exams you will easily get an A. The homework is hard but if you go through your notes most of the answers are given. Do not waste your money on the text book...
As long as you understand the material you should do well in the course. The material can be difficult but Dr. Leady tries hard to explain everything and encourages students to attend office hours. Something to note, however, is that she does teach majors level courses, so studying should be done before the day before the exam.
People put Dr. Leady down way too much. She is not a bad professor! Her class just takes effort from the students. She is one of the most helpful professors I have ever had. She recently switched to a free book which is nice. Attend class, watch lecture videos before going and put in the effort. You will do fine!
Leady is brilliant! However, that's a huge problem that negatively impacts grades. She knows so much information that she expects all of her students to learn and know everything that she does. The material you need to study for your exams is endless. I'm a straight A student and this class has been way too overwhelming. She expects way too much.
She's too intelligent, and she expects you to be able to know the information as well as her, one exam is on around 8 chapters so expect to be studying as soon as the class starts. She goes through one chapter a class and moves fast, be prepared! Or just do not take her class.
Very smart and expects you to know the textbook inside and out. Spent 10 hours studying for an exam but didn't do well because her exam questions are misleading and meant to trick you. Homework due every other day which I didn't do because it's only 5% of your grade. Even clicker questions meant for attendance are tricky and hard to get credit for.
Dr. Leady definitely loves bio! but the problem is that she always expects you to know everything about bio just like her. Her tests rarely had anything to do with what she talks about in class, they were mainly application problems that were pretty tough. Read the chapters yourself and you might be fine! wouldn't take her again.
Her class is a lot of work but its not very hard. Do the homework and go to class for her clicker points because her tests are awful. They are over absolutely nothing we cover in class and are very tricky questions. Don't recommend her but she's the only one who teaches BIO.
Leady is very knowledgeable, she is very intelligent, also she is one of the only professors I have ever had that will find YOU if you are not doing so hot. This is the only professor/person on this campus that I have found to actually care if you are doing well or not. Having said that, her tests are tough. Would recommend even though Im failing.
To begin, Dr. Leady is a very educated individual. She is very familiar with what she is lecturing and has a good knowledge base on the subject. Her exams are awful. Everything she tells you to review will not be on the exam. I repeat WILL NOT BE on the exam. Her lecture slides serve no benefit to you whatsoever. Be ready to memorize the book.
THIS CLASS IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE! Dr. Leady is an amazing professor but this isn't a class where you can float on by. There are multiple homework assignments online but they are not hard. Do the homework get the clicker points GO TO CLASS She is there if you need her. Test are difficult, if you put in the time and effort you'll be Ok. THE BOOK IS FREE!
The tests are pretty much based off the online lectures. Study the lectures and you should do well on the tests. It's also nice she offers a free text book, even though I stopped using the book half way through the course.
She lectures in a way that makes difficult content (m. genetic) understandable. For me, this was very enjoyable as she brought in real life examples. I took my own notes while using hers as a supplemental material. Her clicker questions would appear on the exams and she would make a point to highlight if something would be on the exam.
So, my problem with Leady is that although she's smart, she expects her students (in this course, most often freshmen) to understand the higher level of teaching that she uses. She makes everything more difficult to understand by forcing comprehensive questions on tests when she doesn't actually teach the basic material. NOT RECOMMENDED.
She is a decent professor. Her work is very hard and time consuming, and your exam grades are the most important grades. She is willing to help you out if you are struggling in her class though.
Posts lectures online, helpful recommend that you go to class, watch lectures and read the book. Doing the bare minimum is not going to get you a good grade. She knows what she is talking about and expects a lot. But if you show up and do the work you will be fine. Missing a class won't put you behind but I recommend going. Tests matter!!!
She was a great professor. Because the class was online, she was really willing to work with you and make arraignments for exams and office hours. She also responded to emails fast and answered all your questions. She uploads all the reading you need to do so you don't have to buy the book and gives you a easy to follow schedule of due dates.
GO MEET HER IN OFFICE HOURS! She is really good one-on-one if you don't understand a certain concept! Her exams are difficult because she makes you work for it, it's application heavy! Homework & clickers are easy points to help towards the final grade :)
Professor Leady knows what she is talking about and does an average job at explaining the material, but her exams are ridiculous. The exams are so comprehensive and unless you have years of knowledge about biology (like she does) you will not be able to get an A on the exam. Take someone else for this class.
Many students didt like her. I mean, I wasnt thrilled with her but I like the fact that we did Case studies in class and she encouraged us to use what we know to solve real life problems. She expects you to watch her videos, come to class(if you dont come, you miss clicker points), and read the textbook.
I would suggest reading the book. Her in class presentations are nice but vague and she uploads videos of them so coming to class or not will not make or break your grade. Clicker points and homework have a 15% curve get all those you can get. To study for test I would review sections of sections she covers in her notes and end of chap. summary
Her tests were nothing like what she lectured over. I tried reading the book, but it never seemed to benefit me. She creates her own tests and puts questions that make you apply the knowledge she has "taught" you. She is very intelligent but I feel as if she shouldn't be teaching an entry level course. 10/10 DO NOT recommend
She seems very intelligent and knowledge about what she is teaching, but does not teach it well. Exams are nothing like lecture or notes. Studied for week straights to simply get a C. Reading the book does not help either. She drops the lowest test score though.... I would recommend any other prof.
U read the free book & watch lectures & still find content contradicts testing. Snail mail email, never by phone. AMBIGUOUS QUESTIONS. Dont think reading text is enough-U need 2 critique & memorize photos & subtitles where many hidden questions lay. If U REQUIRE course, grading scale is modest. Good Luck, you're going to need it!
A lot of information is given in a very short period of time. The tests are quite difficult and cover multiple chapters at a time. Tests are very in depth and can kill you grade
I think Dr. Leady is a very good professor. This is a tough class, but if you work hard you will receive a good grade. This isn't like high school anymore. You have to read the book on your own and study more than the night before. Dr. Leady wants her students to succeed. She does case studies which helps apply material to real life situations.
Leady was not a terrible professor. This class was Survey of Bio (for the non major) and I thought it was a well put together class over biology topics. It did feel like she was unprepared sometimes but overall I feel like everything we needed to pass was there and as long as you showed up to class and did the homework, you would pass with an A.
One of the hardest classes I've taken. She got many terms and concepts backwards and couldn't keep them straight. She seems nice but class is hard. She does clicker questions everyday for attendance. Read the chapters, it actually helps, and go to SI sessions. She contradicted herself many of times and would mess up slides and lectures. Keep tests
Prof. Leady seemed to know what she was talking about, until you had a question. She would mispronounce things, contradict herself, and end class early if she confused herself too much. She would put wrong information on the slides and have the wrong answers to clicker questions. This is my 2nd degree and I understood bio better before this class.
Very hard class is all I have to say.
Overall BIOL 2170 is a challenge. Dr. Leady really knows her stuff and is incredibly intelligent, but this course is made especially difficult to weed people out. She always encourages students to email her or attend office hours and SI sessions. 85% of your grade is determined by exams, same for every BIOL 2170 regardless of professor.
Leady acts like she cares about her students, but really doesn't. Is very snippy when you go up to talk to her, and will often back track and lie to you. She is kind of knowledgeable on the subject, however, is constantly mixing up her own concepts and getting corrected by the class. Her exams are nothing like lecture, honestly lecture is a joke.
Honestly one of the worst professors Ive had in a very long time. She was never prepared for class and never uploaded any of the material that was necessary for class. Honestly if I had the opportunity to change to a different professor I would do it in a heart beat.
She doesn't go over chapters that we missed because she fell "ill" on that day. Everything in the chapter will be on the test, even if she doesn't teach more than half of them. Gives so many clicker questions. Doesn't post notes/videos even on the same week as exams. So lazy. She doesn't explain things in detail and expects you to TEACH YOURSELF.
One of the worst professors I've had at UT. She says she will post notes and required videos, but never does. She is lazy, and lecture is pointless. On the rare occasion that she posts notes, they often have mistakes and are missing large sections. Get ready to memorize the book. Must study EVERYTHING to do even remotely well on exams. Stay away!
Avoid taking this class with Dr. Leady if you can. If not, get ready to study hard (teach yourself) and attend SI sessions.
Book not used for online class, it's information that she posts. A lot of material to study from, including videos she does and helpful. Nice not to buy a book BUT I HI-LIGHT EVERY SENTENCE because EVERYTHING is a fact! I was looking forward to the class, LOVE SCIENCE, but this has killed my love.
Cancelled class all the time, but would test us over the material not lectured on, or that she briefly skimmed over. She makes herself available outside of class, and during office hours she's friendly enough, but doesn't do a good job of explaining some of the concepts throughout the course. Don't take her class you can take it with someone else.
She goes over the notes we do outside of the class and doesnt give any new information. Only talks about certain things &expects the students the know the test questions when its something she doesnt speak about. Most of the class is online. The homeworks arent that bad but test have many trick questions. What is tricking me going to teach me?
The textbook is a must for this class. Dr. Leady will briefly go over selected topics, and the exam will cover everything else. I found myself highlighting entire pages of the book; she expects WAY too much. Some exam questions come off the MCAT and PCAT. Must read the book and teach yourself to pass. I don't recommend taking her at all.
Dr. Leady's 2150 and 2170 classes are definitely weed out classes. She is clear on what must be done to succeed and if one puts in the effort, anyone can do well. She is available out of class and is an excellent lecturer. Dr. Leady makes tests in a way to ensure that students can critically think and apply knowledge, is very fair.
Do not take this class online. She does not provide a book, her exams her 50 or more questions in 60 minutes and also impossible. She post videos but doesn't talk loud enough I had to connect a speaker to understand her. She answers questions but still is not helpful worse class ever.
Tests were CRAZY hard. Better know the textbook word for word.
Exams are nothing like homework assignments or lecture notes. Get ready to memorize the textbook word for word. Exams are VERY hard!!! Skipping class is not an option, clicker points make up a majoring of your grades and there are around 10 points everyday!
Dr. Leady was the worst professor I have and ever will have. Both of the first 2 exams were curved because more than half the class was failing the course. She was forced to do this by the Dean. Lectures were nothing like the exams, and attendance is mandatory considering she gives points for answering response questions. Stay away from her!
I was required to take this class as a part of my Exercise Science curriculum. During the Fall 2018 semester, this class was an absolute disaster. Both the first 2 exams were heavily curved because almost everyone in the class was failing. There was little to no reason to attend lectures besides the clicker points because the exams covered the book
Coming into this course I thought I had a clear understanding of Biology having previously taken other courses in the past and in High School. I was wrong. After more than half the class failed the first 2 exams, they were curved and it became possible to pass the course. I would stay away from her if you can, this was not a pleasant experience.
I'm not sure how to be nice about describing the way in which this class was handled by the entire department and by Dr. Leady. This was an absolute disaster of a course, and the fact that so many people stuck it out is astonishing. An introductory Biology course should never be as difficult as she made it to be. Never take her, for your own sake.
I'm not sure if anyone in our class liked her, and as the semester continued less and less people showed up to lectures. I personally did not enjoy this class at all, but I showed up every day for the points. Very boring to listen to, and I'm sure as you have seen some of the exams had to be curved because the first two were impossible.
There were a lot of problems with this course that ended up with the department getting involved as around half of the class was failing. The exams were a lot of difficult application questions and grades were barely passing until a curve was added. Grades are made of tons of clicker questions in class, tough exams, and lots of homework.
Everyone complained about BIOL2170 in Fall 2018 but get real people! This is college! I want to learn as much as I can so I do well in future classes. I dont want a prof who makes it easy. Sure I'd like a no brainer A but I will NOT be prepared for the next level. I've gone on to upper level classes now and im so much better off than others.
I loved Dr. Leady's class. Exams were straight forward and related to the lecture material. The lecture kept me engaged for the time and lectures rarely took the entire time period .
I'm not sure I can find any good things to say about this woman. Simply incompetent at her job and I'm very upset I was forced to take her class.
Dr. Leady is definitely not as bad as you think. She expects you to study for tests. As long as you do you will get an A. She drops the lowest test score. She expects you to read directions carefully and do the assignments. I ended up getting a 106% in her lab class. She is a slow grader though. If you watch the lectures you will learn a lot.
She is not an amazing professor. I enjoy hard classes and see them as a good challenge. I am also very good at biology. She KILLED me with this class. I was CONSTANTLY working on it and she kept changing the due dates for things. It was very difficult to follower. Students beware!
One of the worst professors I've ever had. I mean seriously shes horrible. Her emails always have typos, like all the time. If your going to send a mass email to your students at least take the time to proofread your emails. Her exams do not correlate to what she teaches in lecture. She is extremely unprofessional and just a bad professor.
Yes due dates were changed in the course, that's frustrating. But I seriously don't think it affected my grade. If your grade was affected by dates being pushed further, what were you doing? Unanswered emails yes frustrating but this seems to be the trend with the BIO DEPT, not just Leady.
Dr. Leady is not what you expect her to be. In the beginning she seems all understanding and sweet, but you'd be incorrect. She shows no sympathy towards her students what so ever. Her exam material is pulled out of thin air, and has nothing to do with her lectures. At this point you could skip class, and do better than actually attending the class
Don't take this class if you care about your GPA. Homework has nothing to do with the exams. Exams are a guessing game even if you understand all of the chapters. You are not allowed to ask questions about homework until after the due date."I am not going to do your homework for you."
DO NOT TAKE.
Dr. Leady's class was terrible, to say the least. Every email had a typo. Her exam material was far from anything taught in class. The averages for her exams were well below the passing rate, and she still refused to curve. She even got sick in front of our entire lecture class. I would rather change my major than take her again.
I did everything I could to be successful in this class and I still struggled a ton. All of the exam averages were D's or F's and there was no curve. The material on the exams didn't correlate with what she taught in lecture. She rarely responded to personal emails. Emails to the whole class almost always contained typos.
Leady was my lab coordinator and it was bad. I don't personally know anyone who got an A in this lab, although we all had A's going into the practical. The TA was awesome but her manual was terrible and she assigned pre-lab quizzes with short time limits and answers that were difficult to find. This lab was terribly unorganized.
There are a lot of clicker questions, but generally, the exams are easy. The information she goes over in class are what are typically on the exams. There are a few application questions on her exams, but I've heard that there are worse professors. There isn't much homework either. The final exam had questions from previous exams too!
If I could've rated Dr. Leady a 0, I would've. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I REPEAT, DO. NOT. TAKE. HER. CLASS. Her lectures do not correlate with anything on her exams, and she is extremely inaccessible to contact outside of lecture either through email or office hours. 12/10 do NOT recommend taking Leady. You will be very stressed.
This woman showed up to the final exam over half an hour late. I dont think theres anything more that needs to be said.
Don't do this to yourself.
The class was fine. Dr. Leady is very hard to get ahold of. She didnt post our first exam when she was supposed to and no one could get ahold of her for 3 days. Class was fairly simple though. A lot of assignments.
To be completely honest her lectures are useless. If you read the book (which comes free with taking the course) the lectures are super easy. She was always very lenient with the due dates and grades if you email her.
Had her for an online class at 8:30 am and she recored her lectures because she didn't care if you came or not, just that you watched the lecture. As long as you pay attention and do the work you'll be fine, and there isn't a ton of work to begin with.
This professor responded to about 2 out of my 8 emails I have sent to her during this semester, so she doesn't seem to care about urgent student concerns. She is not very communicative. She sped through lectures giving no time to take notes, so joining was practically useless. Her lecture slides were awful as well. Never take this professor.
Everyone talks bad about her, but she was definitely the best science teacher I've had at UT thus far. Her exams are easy as long as you read the book and study, plus an A is 90%. She explains the info on her slideshows instead of just repeating what's on it, like most professors. She is a bit condescending if you go to office hours, but helpful.
Her lectures are poorly created and if you are confused about anything she doesnt respond to your email for at least three weeks if she ever does. It is nearly impossible to reach her even through office hours. She assigns some useless assignments that are time consuming. Exams make up the vast majority of your grade so do well on them or you fail
Exams make up 90% of your grade. The lowest exam score is dropped. LockDown browser is not used. Her lectures are terrible. I passed with an A because I read the textbook. She never attends her office hours or responds to her emails. She may also ignore your comment in class if she doesnt want to answer it. Shes an easy A as long as u read.
you can do the bare minimum amount of reading and still pass the tests
She was a good professor, but she would not speak to us for weeks and then assign a ton of homework for all the weeks she missed. Never got an explanation. But her assignments are clear, just a lot of writing.
Leady's class isn't difficult, however, her lectures are somewhat scatterbrained, so if you want to do well, I recommend reading the textbook, although it isn't required. Assignments are all through the textbook and are fairly simple and easy to complete.
Dr. Leady was a fun professor to have for BIOL2170. Her lectures are all over the place & attendance isnt mandatory. If you really want to understand what is going on, make sure you READ the textbook! It will be worth your while to read the book, observe her slides, then write her own notes. Definitely recommend her course, just put in the effort.
Dr. Leady runs her class very lecture heavy. Her lectures arent hard to understand I just personally found them boring. Very easy to pass this class though.
DO NOT take with her. The first week of classes she had nothing up. I emailed her 3 times within two weeks never got a response, had to email the Biology department to contact her, even after that she never emailed me. She used old recorded lectures that made no sense and went too fast with explaining. Just read from the screen did not explain.
Do not take her what so ever. She is so unreliable and soooo tough to get in touch with. I emailed and called her from every place I could. I had to call the department chair and still couldnt get hold of her. It took me 6 months and still didnt get in touch with me until last day of grading. Very upsetting.
Brenda is the best professor to take for this class. She doesnt use lockdown browser/webcam. So basically do the hw and cheat on the exams and youll have an A
Terrible. I had missed a quiz due to an emergency and emailed her four separate times over 2 weeks to confirm my extension request (I finished the quiz with 100% but gave me a 0% for being a day late) and no response. I had my advisor email her, no response. I got the dean involved and got my grade but she STILL has never got a response from her.
For a non-major class, the content is very in depth and quite difficult. However, the work is not very heavy and the assignments are open note. The schedule is known from day 1 and the entire class is open as well, except for exams. Difficult but doable.
Leady is the best biology professor at UT
I had to take this course online due to COVID. Dr. Leady did not explain things well at all, she would often cancel class within minutes of it starting- which was annoying since it was so early in the morning. Tests were hard. I would not recommend her nor would I take her again.
I took this course during the summer. The readings assigned were insanely long. Once, I had to read 40 pages within a week and retain the data fast enough to do well on the test at the end of that week (tests each Sunday). She did not respond to any of the emails I sent during the entire class; the biology board director had to get involved.
Dr. Leady is a little odd, she once brought this dog she found on the side of the road into class and said you can pet it, it might bite and I don't know what diseases it has. She is also an extremely boring professor.
Professor Leady's class is a mixed bag - lectures can be boring, but the textbook is useful. Unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the free course materials.
