A rare professor who knows her stuff and is a feast for the eyes.
I found Ms. Still's class to be extremely biased and I would not recommend that you take her class.
Very nice professor with a lot of energy. Take a lot of notes.
great teacher but very hard. I would only recomend her if you are serious about sociology. If you are taking her as an elective good luck.
The classes aren't boring, she is very nice and keeps your attention. Have to study for the tests but she doesn't put any surprises on them. Definitely recommend her!
She is an OK teacher...not that hard...she's just not interesting and she expects you to know stuff that you couldn't possibly know before taking the class...she doesn't explain things well and asks for minor details on tests.
Very nice and interesting professor. She talks a lot so take lots of notes and read the chapters. Tests are not too difficult. You have to read a book of urban legends for a little group disscution at the end of the semester but there is no final.
shes sooooo smart, her class is all lecture, but she keeps it pretty interesting, take notes and read the chapters and you should do fine on her tests, if you have an A you dont have to take a final!!! really nice
Very energetic and interesting. Her tests are pretty hard, but not much work otherwise.
She has very hard tests that have a lot to do with class. Doesn't have a strict attendance policy but will get you in the end. Likes to listen to herself talk. Always expects you to finish a sentence for her. Don't take her.
Professor Sanders is a very smart and nice woman, however she takes an introductory class to sociology way too seriously. Her classes are all lecture, you have to read the chapters, take notes on videos, and even read a 480 page book. VERY HARD TESTS.

Great class, but harder than I expected. Study, and learn to think like she does. Her exam policy is nice, and she's really helpful if you have questions.
she rocks
EASY EASY EASY, HOT TOO, just pay attention and study, i had her before she was married, so marriage might have changed her.
if you are a girl take this class, if you are a guy and can deal with reading a lot and the fact that she will not give guys A's she is not too bad to look at
she is very biased if you are a guy you arent getting an A
Loved the class, she was cool, helpful, and concerned. Interesting topics, take it, it is actually a very cool class, nice break from the monotony of math and science all all...
Nice lady...you have to read the very long and detailed chapters more than once if you want to have any chance of doing well on the tests. Know the notes backwards and forwards since the questions are extremely detailed. The tests just suck...just pray!
This class was WAY too hard to be introductory. Very hard tests which are compiled from EVERYTHING in the book and notes. Make sure to read the long chapters many times because the questions are very detailed and specific, would not recommend her at all
She is extremely entertaining and very helpful. She is energetic and bright. The only problem is that the tests are incredibly difficult. Way to difficult for 101. Look out for two projects early in the semester. Overall, she is awesome.
Sanders was by far the coolest teacher I had last semester. She really loves what she does. I found her class to be quite easy; however, I also learned a lot. Her teaching style is very frenetic and stream-of-consciousness, so pay attention in her class.
I don't know who would consider her to be a great teacher cuz she's not. She's nice in a weird way and her voice is sooo incrediably annoying. She never reminds her students when the tests and projects are due,she just assumes you know when they are.
still is very nice and helpful. got an A but had to work for it. not biased towards guys, but biased towards people that try and come to class. doesn't have attendance but come, you will do better.
she's great. a bit tough, just take decent notes. MAKE SURE YOU READ THRU THE CHAPTERS BEFORE THE TESTS. she always includes the readings into exams which is a pain. she won't just give you everything on a platter, but she's fair and very cool.
she is not the easiest teacher ive ever had . . . but shes not as hard as everyone says she is either. Her teaching style is different and she definately has a passion for what she does which makes the class very entertaining.
she's very helpful and down to earth. also, she makes really basic stuff interesting. i'd recommend her class.
Great teacher. Tests are very difficult. Read the chapters before taking the tests!!!
Great, interesting class. Please take. Do the reading and take notes and you are fine for the test. Two papers and a book but not to time consuming if you stay organized. Wonderful teacher!!!
She makes this class ridiculously hard. The tests are beyond impossible. Unless you read the chapters and MEMORIZE THEM, you have no chance of passing! You can take notes, read the chapter twice and study for days, but it won't do anything.. awful class!
this was a really interesting class but definately not worth the work for a 101 class.very cool teacher just not helpful at all with what she expects and what you can expect for the tests.if you arent ready to do ALOT of work you better get out!
Very animated and entertaining; I loved her class, learned way more than I expected for a gen ed class; EXTREMELY difficult grader, but is worth it in the end as long as you put in effort. reading the book is crucial to doing well in this class.
A person of reasonable intelligence will have no problem with this class. Those people who claim that 101 with Sanders is too hard need a reality check.
this class is very hard. her tests are really hard. i would suggest that you dont take this class if you dont want to do a lot of work. good teacher, but takes the 101 class way too seriously
Very interesting class. You definitely have to read the book and study for the tests, but they are by no means unreasonable. She makes things interesting and understandable.
If you plan on taking this class be sure to get plenty of rest before you get there. I could have done better if I had made a conscious effort to do so, but the class is boring as hell and the content is even worse. Get someone else if you can!
very strict grader and too self-involved...
Mrs Sanders gives great lectures.. she talks really fast so you really have to pay attention. she also does this high pitched voice when shes imitating people thats very memorable.
Sanders is a great prof, very entertaining, and makes subject matter interesting; she is by no means an easy grader, and reading the book is essential, attendance crucial to doing well, although there is no policy. a hard class but well worth the work.

Great teacher! Not easy...in fact, she's deceptively difficult. Urban Legends discussions are fun but grades from discussion tend to be a bit ambiguous. You've gotta know you're stuff or you are SOL. Fun and creative projects projects.
Great aging and the family class. Thank goodness Dr. Dickinson came up with the tests. ;) You can see my comments and others under Brenda Still. She went off and got married to become Sanders
AWESOME teacher! very interesting, gives TONS of examples to help you understand the text. very animated and funny. tests are NOT that hard, but of course you have to study. duh. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! fun fun fun. she makes sociology super interesting.
she is a nice and understanding lady, but I wasnt expecting the class to be so demanding. She is a difficult grader and tests are so hard.
If you think this teacher is hard you are a slacker. I LOVE this class solely b/c I had her as a teacher. If you get the privilige to take her class, you will see how fun and energetic she is.And Im a girl and I still think she is hot,so boys if you want a hot, fun, smart teacher TAKE THIS TEACHER.
Nice teacher but VERY hard tests. A lot of work so if you take it be prepared to study everyday. Tough grader too!! To much work for a 101 class.
I can see how all the ladies got A's. Most of the guys are too busy staring...SORRY GOT SIDETRACKED...She is very good looking. Anyways guys you will not get an A. I think she is too hard and not very helpful if you are a guy. I got a C in this course and really payed attention.
This class is pretty challenging for an Intro class. She really makes you use your mind. I suppose that's the point, but I don't expect it these days. I think she's real nice and really gets what she's teaching. .. has passion.
She is a wonderful professor; her tests aren't easy but they aren't impossible either. They're the same form every time; after the first test you catch on. She's very animated and gives practical examples, sort of quirky, but it makes things interesting. She has a fair and clear cut way of gradeing.
Took this class to fulfill my social science requirement... and was pleasantly surprised to have such a brilliant and witty individual at the helm. Anyone who says she is too difficult shouldn't be in college, and her tests are the epitome of fairness. Got me interested in urban legend theory too.
GREAT professor. Must work hard but it's worth it. She is passionate about her work and it shows in her lecturing. Always available to help and respects the students that work hard. Tests are hard but fair. I always enjoyed class and have taken her 3 times now. A+ professor!
smart smart smart lady. test are not easy, 3 tests, 2 papers (interesting), and i group discusion project. class is very intersting. Very hard to get an A
She's a nice lady but her 101 class is like a 401 class, tests are very difficult and will walk out with out test if not handed in in time allotted (usually 50 minutes). This class seems ok in the lecture but its HARD
Tough class, Very smart lady with interesting lectures, but IMPOSSIBLE tests! Do not take this class if you are used to getting A's, b/c I worked by butt off and got a C (And I was happy). I learned alot, but what I learned most is that a Sociology Major is NOT for me...
She is the reason I decided to minor in Sociology. Very interesting because she relates material to understandable, everyday things. Tests are kind of hard, but if you study an A is achievable.
Amazing teacher....i never wanted to miss her class and learned so much...definitely do the reading....dont take anyone else for 101...shes awesome!!!
Hard class. Test were too difficult for an intro level. But she was a nice teacher.
holy****...not a 101. nice but come on...its a general ed...im not going to major in it so cut some slack...average grade in her classes are like 65-70's. if youre a smart girl and can memorize random stupid stuff and speak some for of teaching i dont understand then youll do great.
very hard class, boring subject matter. She tries hard but doesn't explain what the tests will be on. I worked very hard in that class only to earn a C.
One of my favorite professors in college ever.
She is now Brenda Sanders. I'm a guy and I got an A. One of my favorite profs. ever.

She is hot as hell but the class requires a bunch of work for a gen ed.
very cool professor. she's kinda young, and can communicate with the students really well. she's really into what she's teaching, which makes the subject matter all the more interesting. it's a pretty hard class as far as getting a really good grade, but the class is worth taking if you really want to learn something.
mrs. sanders is smokin hot. you won't want to miss a class. she also has a cute charm about her and she is quite sharp. lectures are always enjoyable and thought provoking. if you read the textbook and pay attention in class the tests are not too tough. the fact that she is an engaging person makes it easy to pay attenttion in class.
She's a great teacher, very intersting. She doesn't take attendance but go to class or you will not do well.
This is a really intensive class. Don't skip a lot because you'll miss the material and random things she includes on tests. Gives lots of chances for extra credit, even though her syllabus says she doesnt. tests are HARD with about 20 specific, short answer questions on the material.
NOT a 101 class!! She is tricky and expects you to know every current event. Tests are soo detailed and she includes facts she never talked about. I would not take her again!
Very nice professor, but SUPER HARD. Be prepared to study and read your butt off. Never miss her lecture because, tests are extrememly detailed. Do not take if you can't put in atleast 4-6 hours a week of study/reading time. Learned a ton though!
i learned a lot in this class, however the test are really hard for me. i studied all day and night but had no improvements. she is nice though.
She made it dead to me...
Ms. Sanders is very interesting. You will learn so much from her. Do not miss any classes though. Random questions on her tests come from the lectures. The sociological imagination and nacirema will be on every test. 3 Tests; 2 Papers; Read one book and discuss it with 4 others for 30 minutes. TAKE HER! But read your chapters!!
Probably the most interesting teacher ever. I thoroughly enjoyed going to class, even though it wasn't mandatory, just to hear her lectures. Her tests are difficult & require a lot of reading, but if you do it you will be fine. Seriously, take this class, she's awesome!
Interesting class. Lots of required reading from popular books about aging. Lots of notes in class. Required service learning project with elderly people. She is really nice, energetic, and interested in the topic. You've really got to read and study to do well on the tests, but if you do that they're pretty straight forward.
Hard tests. Lots of reading. Lots of projects. This class requires a lot of outside work. bleh... but on the plus side she is funny and the class itself is entertaining
Mrs. Sanders was super nice, but her class was really hard. It's definitely not like most 100 level classes. Should be more like a 300 level. There is lots of reading and frequent tests.
Prof Sanders genuinely cares about her field and the info she offers her students. The class is only difficult if you do not take it seriously. As an intro class it exposes you to the scope of the socio field, and is thusly a lot to digest. Read the book, go to class, and pick up on some of the energy Sanders has (she has a lot) and make it fun!
I thought she was a horrible teacher, i had her for socy and she was arrogant and pretty full of herself. i worked hard and got a b (that i was grateful for) i would not reccomend her. if i would have had a heavier course load i doubt i would have done well in her class, she thinks she's the only teacher that assigns work
Sanders is brilliant. She's got a dry sense of humor sometimes, and is full of valuable information. She gives extra credit, and appreciates class attendance. People that don't like her usually expect to have goods grades handed to them without working hard. Pay attention to her... she's much smarter than some people can appreciate.
teaches like it's a 300 level class. test questions can come from anything randomly mentioned in class so it is necessary to attend everyday. reading is also a must. don't take if you need a GPA booster.
I took this class thinking it would be an interesting class. I was wrong. She doesn't teach anything that are on the SUPER hard tests and expects you to teach yourself everything. Very few assignments go into your grade, most being tests. Tests cover at least 100 pages in the book and contain stupid details. Find a different teacher.
A really sweet lady who is very caring and loves her work. It's a lot of reading and the tests are extremely hard! I think there was one person out of the 40 people in my class that got an A. Her projects are really easy and really help your grade. I WARN YOU: IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PASSION FOR SOCIOLOGY THEN DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Mrs. Sanders is great. She knows A LOT about what she is talking about and although the class can be boring she's very helpful and truly cares about her students. Take it, you'll learns something without killing yourself.
She was WONDERFUL! I am now majoring because of her class. Don't take her for that easy A though because she's tough. You will learn everything with one of the best teachers I have ever had with her though. LOVE HER! Take her class!
Brenda is the best. For the people who say she tests on stuff she doesn't cover is false. Write down everything the lady says and you will do great! I have had her for multiple classes and she is the best ever, and the reason I am a sociology major now. Tests are hard, but her interesting lectures are worth it.
She is ridiculous. The class was pretty interesting but then the tests were impossible. I went to class, took a lot of notes and studied the book and barely passed. She would stare at the floor when she talked and she's not very friendly either. Take someone else if you can!
At first I thought I liked Prof. Sanders, but lectures started to get really boring and I realized that I spent way too much time on assignments and readings for the grade I recieved. There must be an easier professor for this gened. I learned a lot, but had to work really hard at it--not an easy a.
I took this class as a graduate student and didn't find it to be overly hard. Yes, you were held accountable for the information in class and from the book, but I don't think that's unreasonal for college. She is funny and has a great sense of humor. I absolutely loved her class. Not bad on the eyes either.
I enjoyed this course. to make an A: read and know the chapters, give 100% on assignments, WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING SHE SAYS. lots of questions come from her lectures, so you have to go to every class. extra credit test ?s come from news. don't just write what she writes on the board, but also what she says. very smart. got me interested in sociology.
This class was WAY too hard for a 101 course. Only 2 people in my class had A's and exempted the exam, that alone should say something. Her lectures are miserable and she stares at the floor. Tests cover several chapters and she excepts you to know every sentence from every chapter plus every word she's said. Shes way to critical, don't expect an A
Great teacher! Grades are based on a variety of different assignments including a project/ one 5 page paper, 3 one page papers, a book reading/ group discussion, and 2 tests (mltp choice & shrt answer). There was also AMPLE opportunity for xtra credit. Show up for the next class after tests for extra attendance points. Do the work and get an A!
WONDERFUL TEACHER! Don't take it if you're not going to put in effort, but it's interesting and her passion for it really keeps the lectures from being boring. She's a little spacey sometimes, but it's funny. Read most of the book, take really good notes, study those, and youre good. Tests aren't easy, but they make you think. I love this class.
I loved Professor Sander's class. I didn't really have an interest in sociology going into the class, but I'm now a sociology major. Her tests are hard. Attendance is a must and studying the night before will not be enough. It's definately worth the work!!
Great teacher! I highly recommend her. She knows what she is talking about and makes lectures really interesting. No boring powerpoints but class attendence important for tests. Yes a lot of material on tests and questions can be specific. Do reading and give forth effort and you will do fine. Im now considering Soc. major because of Sanders!
Professor Sanders is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I didn't mind sitting through her class because I thought the topic and lectures were interesting. If you stay engaged during the lectures and do all the non-textbook reading you should be fine. Her questions certainly don't come out of nowhere. Just pay attention and take good notes!
Her class was a bit difficult but she is a great teacher! She makes class interesting and explains everything so well! She is very passionate about sociology! Also the books she has you read are very interesting! I recomend her!
Professor Sanders is a really good teacher. Her lectures are, for the most part, entertaining and interesting. We watched a few interesting movies in her class too. In order to succeed in Sander's class one needs to read a fair amount, however the readings are worthwhile. She is nice, attractive, and smart. If you want to take sociology, take her.
She is a really nice and pretty lady. She keeps class interesting and really knows what she's talking about. I liked the class but thought it was really hard and a lot of work. You have to read and study a lot. This class is not an easy A at all.
Sanders is AWESOME. She's super interesting, and I learned so much this semester. Just a tip, literally everything that comes out of her mouth is on the test so take good notes! All in all, it's not an easy A, and you have to work hard, but it's worth it. I got a B, but learned sooo much. Definitely worth it and definitely recommended.
Professor sanders is my favorite teacher at cofc. She will definitely make you work and you have to put in effort to get an a but she is extremely helpful and a really nice lady. She works from the textbook which makes everything easier to follow. She is an excellent teacher and you will learn SO much from her.
She is super nice, and interesting. But if you are a slacker you will fail. There is a lot of reading. A LOT! Her tests require a lot of studying, but if you do the work and listen in class you will do fine. The material isn't difficult, it just a lot!
Professor Sanders is the best professor I've had so far! Her tests are generally easy if you pay attention and skim the book. Her notes are very easy to follow. She is entertaining and encourages participation in class discussions. YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE THE FINAL IF YOU HAVE AN A! She wants you to pass the class and do well!
Sanders is awesome. She is super helpful in class. You do have to take notes, but if you do tests come from the notes. Helpful on papers. Really understanding about getting your work done. Seriously a great teacher.
I literally thought out thousands of way to just make this teacher not exist, she was just that TERRIBLE! I wanted to shot myself. She almost had be in tears multiple times. Use the syllabus as your word of god because she doesn't tell you about papers due or pass out what the paper is on, just posts it on oaks without saying a word. TERRIBLE Class
She teaches fairly well and explains things using helpful examples, but is a VERY hard grader. Make sure you follow the syllabus throughout the semester because she doesn't tell you when things are due and rarely reminds you. Also, there is an overwhelming amount of textbook reading and A LOT of material for each exam.
this lady is an awful grader. good teacher although she has conversations with herself...but if she can find something to deduct off a test, she will do it. if your planning on taking sociology because its interesting & an easy class, then stay far far away from this woman.
Truly amazing professor. I was just taking this class as a requirement, but if I could take another class with her, I would. She really cares about her students, is clearly interested in the material, and teaches really well. Even though its a 101, you need to put in effort. Really good looking too.
For a 101 class: HARD. She is very unclear in lecture (no notes), a lot of reading material from book, and random info on tests. A lot of extra assign. to help grade. Do not take this class lightly, do a lot of studying for tests. Do not take if looking for a requirement, only if interested in majoring in sociology.
I dont understand why everyone says she is difficult. As long as you are willing to write down what she writes and not sleep during class then you will do excellent. All papers are 1 pg. A's exempt final. (I did)
If you take this class seriously from the beginning, you should be fine. Pay attention in class because theres always stuff on the test that you would only know from the lecture. She also does EC from the news. I would recommend her if you have time to actually read and study, otherwise dont take her if you need a gen ed
If you want an easy A, don't take this course. The test almost always cover over 100 pages of textbook, as well as days of lecture notes and films watched in class. However, she presents interesting material and ALWAYS engages the class. Lectures are always good, and weekly opportunity for extra credit helps difficult tests. You learn a lot.
Don't take this class if sociology doesn't come easy. Confusing in lectures. Nice person but hard grader and tests are impossible.
Awesome professor. Basically all lecture during class, but she uses great examples to help you understand. Really cares about her students. You will do great in this class if you pay attention in class, understand the information, and complete all assignments.
Hardest grader ever. Her essays are confusing and pointless. Hardest class ever.
This class was way too hard to be an intro course. The tests cover A LOT of material and studying is hard because everything is "fair game." There are weekly opportunities for extra credit and one page papers every now and then. You can put all necessary info in paper and still get a 70. I like her as a person, but I wish I had taken someone else.
This class was too hard to be an intro course. The tests cover A LOT of material and studying is hard because everything is "fair game." There is optional weekly extra credit which helps. Also one page papers every now and then. You can put all necessary info in paper and still get a 70. I like her as a person, but I wish I had taken someone else.
Professor Sanders was a very good teacher. Interesting lectures that made things easy to remember if you are engaged. Only has you write one page papers. Extra credit helps a lot. Extensive tests, but they are fairly easy if you read and listen in class. I definitely recommend taking her!
I absolutely LOVE her. She's an amazing teacher and it seems like everyone in the class feels the same. She is such an interesting person and I never minded going to her class. Keep up with the readings and take good notes and you'll enjoy her class. I really recommend her!!
Prof. Sanders is the reason why I am a sociology major. I have learned so much in her class and she is incredibly helpful and although challenging def worth taking one her classes. Show up and read and participate! She is amazing!
If you are just trying to take this class as a gen ed DO NOT take this class!!!! She is extremely hard to keep up with and she lives by the syllabus i would HIGHLY recommend OPTING OUT of this class
The material is fairly easy to understand, there is just ALOT to remember. Be sure to read the books she assigns, they will be a major part of her tests. Take her lecture notes and do her essays and you will be fine.
I'm not mean but DO NOT TAKE THIS. She is way too difficult. She scribbles random notes, never has powerpoint slides. Just random mumbo jumbo. There are only 3 tests all year and I have yet to make higher than a C on one. I put in over 20 hours studying for the third exam. Take another teacher, she is too confusing, and too boring.
You need to pay attention in class and do the assignments on time, but it's fairly easy if you do that and take good notes. You can't sleep through class. It can be a little long, but she's funny and really sweet. You can get by if you don't read the textbook word for word, but at least go over most of it when it's assigned.
Sanders is a very smart professor. Her lectures are very interesting and engaging. However, she is a pretty tough grader on tests (STUDY HER NOTES A LOT FOR TESTS!). Also, she doesn't give any feedback individually for papers. She is the nicest teacher though and is willing to help you in her office hours.
I love Dr Sanders. I was really intimidated by her at first, but there's no reason to be. I'm surprised so many people are saying she's so tough. She is one of the best, most helpful profs I've ever had and she really cares about her students/field of study.
If this is a Gen Ed class for you, do not take unless you want your GPA destroyed.
I don't know how she has a 3.9. She is very interesting to listen to, and she's been at CofC for 25 years, so this has to be why. If you are more worried about getting an A than you are about learning, then DONT take this class. You'll learn a lot, but no matter how much time and effort you put in, you are not going to get an A!! You've been warned
She thinks she is a graduate professor. She is an AWFUL professor. Her tests have nothing to do with what she talks about in class. She expects you to read all 3 books that she 'requires' you have and understand it, which also has nothing to do with her lectures. She doesn't assign homework nor participation. She sucks. DO NOT HAVE HER AS A TEACHER
Professor Sanders was amazing! Yes she was a tough grader... and I had to work for my grades. But she was so willing to help and such an amazing teacher! Her lectures were always so interesting. Her lectures are the test. You don't really need to read if you pay attention in class. She made me love sociology & really pushed me. Would recommend her!
I loved her class, a lot of my classmates thought she was hard and that the tests were the worst part but I didnt mind, she was genuinely funny and her lectures were great. Very understanding, gives a lot of help if you ask. Plus you exempt the final if you end the semester with an A
Attendance really matters to her but her lectures are interesting and she is very funny. She has a kind of dry humor and doesn't try to be funny, she just is. Her papers are easy As but her tests are a different story. I got a low C on the first but studied and got As on the rest. If you get an A at the end of the term she exempts from the final.
Lecture is important therefore attendance is important. She gives you extra points on tests for attending that day. Tests are basically all of lecture + textbook material. She is very specific in what she looks for in papers so I would go to office hours. She is helpful especially to students she knows(from reaching out). Lots of extra cred options
Prof. Sanders has a sense of humor and teaches in a way that makes it easy to understand. However, she's a very tough grader and her tests are hard. Even with attending all of her lectures and reading all three textbooks I did poorly on all of the exams. She expects you to remember every detail and the big group discussion was very harsh and unfair
Took her for social gerontology, great class. Spent a little too much on Alzheimer's but that's a big part of learning about aging. No textbook, lecture only and books to read outside class for test. no cumulative final. great professor, learned the most in her class this semester
She is a very tough grader. I do not recommend this teacher for sociology. Tests are extremely hard and she is not helpful.I went to her office hours and did all the extra credit but it still was not enough for this class. Make sure you read if you want to be.
Sanders is passionate about her work and it shows. However, she does not care much about the success of her students. She asks very specific questions about books read outside of class. Don't expect a great grade if you're taking a lot of classes and don't have time for reading a lot outside of class, in addition to making time for service hours.
DO NOT DO NOT TAKE HER!!! I have never had a teacher that is worse than her. She told my class "I do not believe in giving 100s". There are lots of papers, lectures r super boring, she is an odd person in general. But the worst part- tests. If you don't write her exact words it is wrong. She doesn't help you, if you ask. FAIR WARNING DONT TAKE HER
Tests are EXTREMELY difficult. Multiple choice is easy, but the written response needs to be word for word what she said in class. Alot of application, and she is kind of confusing to begin with. Dont take her, I had to withdraw
Very funny interesting lectures, but very hard to follow what she wants from you on the tests, as they are based off multiple chapters as well as readings outside of the text book. Wish she would cover majority of test material in class not just spend all the lectures on topics that will comprise 10% of the exams. Good at teaching discussed topics
Absolutely worst profesor I have ever had. The tests are nearly impossible, if you do not remember every word she says in her lectures you have no shot at anything above a 70 on the test. Her lectures are incredibly confusing she is all over the place when she speaks and can not focus on one topic for more than 5 minutes. Overall just horrible.
She is a caring professor who will work with you to help you make a better grade. It seems impossible to get an A in this class and honestly difficult to get a B sometimes. Almost everyone failed the first test. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class. Also, there's a lot fo reading and do NOT procrastinate on it.
Sanders is a caring and passionate professor, but this class is next to impossible. I am an A/B student and I really struggled to maintain an B in here. There is a TON of reading, and the tests bypass many big picture items while focusing on insignificant details from the books. The papers were easy, but overall, I wouldn't ever take her again.
Professor Sanders is lecture heavy - quick but will repeat and answer questions. Read the textbook and supplemental books or you will regret it . Once I forgot to turn in part of an assignment and she let me send her a pic to prove I actually did it. If you have an A then you don't have to take the final. I liked it. A normal college class. Study!
Besides her strange pauses and distracted way of lecturing this course is an easy A. Pay attention during lectures and deadlines. Tests are simple if you study everything from lecture.
Beware her tests are extremely hard but she is an amazing teacher!! She gives a lot of extra credit and is helpful in office hours. You really need to read the textbook and be in class but her class is a good one to be in and very enjoyable and interesting.
I almost failed this class and its a 101... I studied hours on hours every week and still couldnt get above a D on a test.
Great professor and interesting course but her tests were low key hard. Definitely recommend getting the textbook as most of the questions from the sg are on there. 3 tests, extra credit for showing up to class and 8 absences allowed
Her tests are extremely hard. If you don't do well on test do not take her class. Her class is not bad. She lectures the whole time but she's easy to follow along. Half way through the semester there is a lot of extra credit opportunities which is clutch.
Very sweet and funny; sometimes would trail off and expect us to answer questions that we really had no way of knowing, but it didn't take anything away from the class. Sociology was extremely interesting and she has encouraged me to pursue more sociological thinking. Fascinating subject and awesome professor! Highly recommend!
There is 0 point in taking this class. She's an ok teacher but tests are basically impossible even after studying for hours on end. I'm an a/b student and the only way I am maintaining a c in this class is from extra credit. Just do everything in your power to avoid taking this class if you want a good gpa.
Professor Sanders gives so much extra credit. You get extra credit just for showing up sometimes and for being there when you go over the tests. She is heavy on lectures but they are not boring. The tests are hard but as long as you do the extra credit every week it will be fine. Study from the lecture and the books for an A to expemt the final.
Prof. Sanders was really nice but she gave an insane amount of work. Every TR she gave a voicethread and quiz. On top of that, she would grade very harshly. One time, I emailed her that I was having a panic attack during a quiz and she still gave me an F. We had to read two books and do a lot of papers, too.
Despite all the negative reviews, I enjoyed learning from Professor Sanders. This class is not meant for a student who is unmotivated and looking for an easy A. If you like to learn, Professor Sanders is perfect. Her lectures are easy to follow and has a clear grading criteria. In addition, Professor Sanders is easy to communicate with.
Do not take her class unless you want to fail or do poorly on every single quiz. She doesn't grade fairly and her quizzes barely have what the lecture was about. If you take her class you will be adding unnecessary stress to your life.
Prof. Sanders is one of the toughest graders I have ever had. I am always an A/B student and have never made anything above a C- on her quizzes. All of the quizzes are short answer questions that focus on small insignificant details in her lecture. If you don't remember every word she says, you won't pass. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND taking.
I deeply enjoy learning about sociology, I'm sure like many of the people here leaving positive comments. But, I have experienced all of the 100% true negative comments to the point that my negative experiences, completely and utterly outweigh my love for the subject that I have been taught before (receiving an A in a previous class).
GERONTOLOGY CLASS. You have lectures every class with a quiz to follow. You have to read five books and there are two quizzes for each book. Some questions are so specific, a person could read the book and not remember that slight detail. You also have 4 short essays on the side. A stressful and high demanding time class.
Tests in this class were extremely difficult. Very few people in my class came out with a good grade and many dropped which I probably should have. Very little of what she taught was actually on the exams. I take super detailed notes and I still was unable to answer any questions confidently. Definitely take the class with a different teacher!!
Let me just start by saying.... SHE HAVE ME AN "F" FOR PARTICIPATION.... FOR MY OWN PRESENTATION. How do you get an F. For participation. When your the one who gave the presentation?! Please, help yourself, and don't make the same mistake I made when I thought this class, let alone, any class with Prof. Sanders was a fine idea.
No feedback given on quizzes even when you email her asking for it which makes it hard to know what areas you need to improve on. Read 2 books but they were interesting and easy reads. The asynchronous class is just voice threads and quizzes and a few, short papers. Very hard professor to communicate with, stubborn.
I took Prof. Sanders for her online class and I definitely learned a lot, but I did not enjoy it. She was not good at engaging you with the recorded lectures, we had a txtbook that I never used bc all info was in the lectures. Two other req. books, one w/ group project. Super crazy abt participation and not lenient w/ online format.
She's not a good prof. She doesn't explain quizzes and she grades everything subjectively. Don't take her class
horrible teacher who doesnt care if you succeed
Made me rethink my major, absolutely horrible online teacher. I asked a question about a quiz that was due at 11:59 and she didn't respond until after the quiz was due causing me to get a C- on the quiz. She does not care if you succeed.
she's nice but she is very long winded and stumbles over her words. there is 2 quizzes every week and 4 papers at the beginning and both of those are super specific. she grades pretty harshly but as long as you put in the effort it isn't too difficult
So, at first, I was going to drop her class because I couldn't make a decent grade on a quiz to save my life. She told me to add A LOT of detail to my answers on the quizzes that is the best advice for her class. Do all the extra credit and write down EVERYTHING she says on the voice threads.
please for the love of god do not take sanders. her tests are pretty much impossible to pass and I didn't get above a D on any of them. she also takes forever to respond to emails. the only good thing about her class is she gives a ton of extra credit, and her papers are pretty easy. be warned.
Her tests are extremely difficult multiple people I know dropped because they failed. She does bubble sheets and essays like an SAT and if you ask for feedback on essays she will give you none and give you a bad grade as well. She is generally mean and awful.
SO much work/reading. And you HAVE to do tit. The schedule is: Week 1: 150 pages of reading + a test on it. Week 2: Another 150 pages + test. Week 3: 2 page essay. And repeat for 5 books x 250-350 pages each. Not worth it unless gero is your passion. The tests aren't easy, either. You can't just read the book, you also have to study it.
She is only a difficult prof because she is hard to follow. Sometimes she is all over the place with her lectures, and she doesn't use powerpoint or anything. It is hard to know what is important to her for the test. Do the extra credit.
Prof Sanders is an amazing teacher. As log as you take lots of notes, study, and do the extra credit you will succeed.
This class is my biggest regret of the semester! It made my life so hard. I take great notes in class, do all of the readings, and study for hours and it still isn't enough. The multiple choice parts of her tests aren't bad - it's the short answer. She wants you to say EXACTLY what she would say. If you can't read her mind, DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS it has been an absolute nightmare and impossible to pass
She is a very nice person but she is a very difficult grader. You could copy the lecture word for word and still not get a good grade on the quiz...I don't really know why. I would not recommend taking her courses unless you want to fail or get a C. I have a 3.5 GPA, I normally get A's and B's but this class is definitely going to drop my GPA.
This is one of those classes that you can't slack in, you need to be attentive and take detailed notes. She wants VERY particular answers on her tests but once you get the hang of it, it's just regurgitating information. I found the material to be very interesting, though, and there's a chance for exemption from the final!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. My biggest regret and the hardest class I've ever taken at Cofc. Failed the first exam and looked around me to see many others had too. I took this class thinking it would be an easy intro class but WRONG. so much reading, papers, the exams are IMPOSSIBLE. so confusing and her lectures were impossible for me to understand.
While as an individual she was kind, her course was fairly difficult. I had never taken a Sociology course before, but was very interested. Overall, the lectures were not structured and her test were fairly difficult. They needed to be exactly what she wanted or you would not pass. This was the lowest grade I have ever received and ruined my GPA.
Extremely strict grader, you MUST answer exactly by what the textbook says. Way too challenging for an intro course, do not take.
idk if im going to withdraw yet but as of right now, I have an F. this class is very memorization heavy and is based on strict regurgitation. you receive a terrible grade if it is not word for word, numbering things in chronological order, etc. I do really like the material but I can't see myself succeeding with this teaching style.
hardest teacher I have ever had especially considering its supposed to be a 101 course if you want to have a good GPA do not take this class it is so unnecessarily hard
I had never taken a Sociology class before however; she expected you to already know sociology information knowing this is a 101-intro class. While I do believe she is a nice person her tests are CRAZY. If you do not put EXACT down what she wants you get it wrong. I come to class every day and take plenty of notes however it is just not enough.
She's clearly passionate about Sociology, which is great, but her expectations for a 101 course are unrealistic. Her tests are hyper-specific and her questions are poorly phrased, and while she emphasizes that some specific concepts are important, it still felt like I never knew what was going to be on the test. If you have a good GPA, avoid.
Honestly a very sweet and nice professor but for a 101 intro class to sociology I would not recommend. Her exams are very difficult and she does not allow you to take the exam home and study it. Most of the kids in my class on the first exam were honestly content that they got above a 60. Ended up withdrawing the class.
This intro sociology class is a real challenge. The professor has high expectations and tests demand exact answers. Make use of unstuckstudy and other study aids to excel in this course.
Her tests are hard, but she shows genuine care about what she teaches and her students. Do the reading she assigns and take good notes in and out of class. She offers lots of opportunities to get extra credit in her classes, and those have had such a good impact on my grade. I honestly enjoy her class and she makes the hour and 15 minutes fly by.
She's very clearly passionate about what she does and is very willing to interact with students. Exams were the most difficult part of the class by far, but as long as you put in effort you will do well. Her grading is reasonable, but there are times where she will mark points off for semantics. Overall, would definitely recommend.
I loved Professor Sanders, as a freshman this class was challenging but nothing too intense. Her grading scale is clear and fair, there's really not a lot of work. Each week we had extra credit assignments that were optional (but encouraged) that weren't hard at all. Attendance is so important, go to class or you'll miss stuff on exams
Dr. Sanders does not seem to understand the difference between understanding concepts and the exact memorization and regurgitation of her conception of the correct answer. Someone should do a sociological study of this class. She enforces the type of power structure she seems to be opposed to from her lectures. Very ironic.
do not reccomend
Your whole grade matters on 3 exams and the final. harsh harsh harsh grader.
I have never had a worse teacher in my life. The harshest grader I've ever had. DONT TAKE IT TRUST ME
TERRIBLE. In class essays, studied my life away for exams and still failed. Went to every class and it did nothing for me. Take something else.
she is a harsh grader but this class was so interesting and the way she lectures is very engaging. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, so take them!! I've learned a lot and she shows genuine care for the subject and her students. Overall would recommend even though it is a challenging course.
Dr. Sanders picks a favorite student and only caters to their learning. She gave one student an A and the rest of us D's on almost every assignment, which is not many so it is very hurtful for our grade. This class is a GPA dropper. DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HER!
Brenda Sanders is an expert in her field and cares very much about her work and her students. I've taken several of her classes. If you have a problem with Professor Sanders my suggestion is rethink it because the problem is probably you. A fantastic educator for a serious student.
as long as you take good notes and stay on top of your work, its easy peasy-- some found it hard but she gives so much extra credit its hard to do bad
Professor Sanders is really sweet and cares about her students. Her class is difficult and you really do need to lock in to get a good grade, but it's possible especially with the amount of extra credit she offers. Her lectures are sometimes difficult to follow and confusing, but if you read the textbook and stay on top of each topic you'll be fine
