great math teacher
He is a great teacher. Calculus is hard overall but he does his best to teach you what you need to know.
Great math teacher. Tries hard to make sure that each concept is clear to the students. Will answer questions as soon as a hand goes up. Expect quizzes with about 2-3 questions every week. Test are about every 3-4 weeks with around 6-9 questions. Reviews day before or sometimes day of quizzes/tests. Textbook code mandatory for online homework.
This was m favorite math class so far at this university. The professor is very clear when teaching and explains things very well. I would highly recommend! He gives you two weeks to complete homework and quiz assignments. Tests are not too bad as long as you understand the study guide.
He is very clear on whats on the tests and quizzes. Ive never understood math much but this guy is great. he gives 2 weeks to finish homework. this guy gets pretty happy when someone asks a question. he wont say that the student was wrong but go back upon his own work in front of the class to see if he made a mistake. he stays after if needed
I def recommended this prof! I don't like math very much but he makes it so relatable and tries hard to simplify the subject. He is always willing to answer queries after class and is receptive to requests for make up quizzes. Just don't slack off on your hw! He is also a very generous partial points giver.
If you use chegg to learn because you can't make it to the math center don't take him. Study guides also avoid chegg. Can't practice his study guides!
Amazing instructor. Probably best Calc 3 teacher at UNR. Calculus 3 itself is a difficult subject, but Sheehan makes it extremely easy and manageable for anyone who tries.
Professor Sheehan was probably the best 283 professor in the school. He is incredibly smart and very good at explaining concepts. This does not mean that the class is an easy A. You definitely need to work for it but as far as professors go, you cant get any better than him.
Dr. Sheehan is one of the best calc 3 professors. He makes it very clear why you are learning not just how to solve a problem. He also takes questions seriously and makes time for them in class.
I really enjoyed Professor Sheehan, I wish I could take more classes with him. I met with him outside class and he seemed like he really did care and wanted me to do well. If you do your homework, practice the study guide, and prepare for quizzes you will do well. And he is great at teaching and explaining!
Brendan Sheehan is probably the best lecturer at this university. His brain works on a totally different level. He is almost a computer with how good his mental maths skills are. Brendan teaches exactly what will be on the quizzes and tests, and provides study guides that are almost exactly like the real exams. Best calc class I've ever taken.
Seriously a great math professor. He is super easy to follow; go to class, take notes, and you will pass. He is more than willing to help on homework problems and takes any questions or concerns. If you're looking for a good calc professor, take this class.
terrible study guides, no cheat sheets, hard grader
The class I specifically took, MATH 283-Calculus 3, was probably one of the best math classes I've taken. I struggled through Calc 1 and 2 but when I was taking this class, everything became clearer and easier as the semester progressed. I am very confident in my calculus skills now. This instructor is one of the best. I owe much success to him.
Math has always been the subject i've struggled with the most. This was the first semester of Math where I really started to grasp the concepts, mainly thanks to Dr. Sheehan's patience and clearness during lectures. He does a great job is explaining every concept, and is very willing to field any questions that might come up.
He is a great teacher. But make sure you attend his class and take notes on every problem. He may use some on the test! Furthermore, he tries to make calculus really understandable.
Great professor. Does an excellent job of teaching the material as well as preparing students for tests
I loved him! He begins by explaining the theory in a concrete, visual way and clearly defines new concepts, variables, etc. He also gives gentle reminders how to apply methods learned in previous math in case you forgot. He then applies the theory with examples. He doesn't rush anything and he never makes anyone feel stupid for asking questions.
Sheehan was the best math professor I have had here at UNR, Ill note none of my professors Ive had have been bad either. He explains everything crystal clear, and he is always trying to help you. The only qualm Id have with the class is the tests have very few questions so if u miss one its worth a TON of points. However the tests are very fair
This man is the GOAT. He can explain all the concepts and tells you what will be on the tests and quizzes. Study guide questions are from the book and are harder than the test itself. Only real problem is that when you miss a question on the tests, it's a lot of points, but other than that he's a fantastic prof.
Dr. Sheehan is an amazing math professor. His lectures are extremely clear and he explains all the necessary concepts to succeed on his homework, quizzes, and exams. He tells you exactly what topics/question types will be on exams and has a lenient grading criteria. Quizzes and exams have no trick questions and are very straightforward.
To be successful, you need to go to EVERY class. Notes format is very clear, everything he writes on the board is important/necessary for the homework/tests/quizzes. HW uses WebAssign which can be annoying with formatting issues. 3 large tests make up 60% of grade. Use the Math Center and you will do fine. Use exam reviews first, then hw to study.
Great professor, great squat. Make sure to attend every lecture, the material isn't inherently hard but builds continuously off previous lectures and missing can put you behind greatly. Tests are clear and study guides help to completely study for the tests. Tells you the sections covered in quizzes and office hours are a huge help. The math GOAT.
This was the best math professor that I have ever had. The way he explains things and talks about math is incredibly enlightening. This is coming from someone that has competed in mathematics. However, I had friends in the class that were around average level that also did very well. All around he is a great teacher.
Teacher expects way to much out of his students. I understand that everyone loved him while he was a Calc 3 teacher, but he is to rough on Calc 1. I loved all the other math classes I have taken at this school, but thankfully this is the last one. I wish I would have taken another professor because Sheehan should stick with Calc three. Run Away
Great professor who skips any additional concepts that others might go over and dives deep into the essentials of what you need to know. Rather than standard power points lectures, he does everything with the students explaining every step and is always eager clear up any confusion by consistently making sure the students understand what he did.
Sheehan is an awesome math teacher. He does tons of examples which is what really made a difference for me. Clear lecturer, & a really chill class. Math is NOT my strong suit & I passed this class relatively easily. Only complaint would be lots of homework due on Friday nights. But that's typical. 3 midterms & a cumulative final, all worth a lot.
I am a fan of Dr. Sheehan. He explained concepts well to students and provided plenty of examples. He was always open to questions. There were no surprises as he let us know what was on every weekly quiz and gave practice exams. Calculus isn't easy but Dr. Sheehan does a great job at teaching it.
Best math professor I ever had. Take him while ya can kids.
This man was the best math professor I've ever had because he didn't waste time confusing students with the "technical definitions" of what we were doing. Instead, he put everything into very simple terms and explained Calculus in a way that made sense intuitively. Go to lecture, tests are hard but manageable, and homework is online.
Kind of a weird dude but he really explains problems well and his office hours are very helpful if you aren't sure what is going on. He doesn't take attendance. There's 4 majors tests and then a final and quizzes every Friday and homework on my math lab. A good teacher!!
Great teacher, very in depth with the material, and explicit. Quirky and nice professor, I enjoyed his class and math is not my strong suit. 4 midterms and a quiz every Friday, and homework you get 2 weeks to work on it.
Math is my absolute worst subject but he made it so understandable for me. He explains the subjects we learn several different ways because he gets that everyone learns differently. Go to office hours to get extra help, it really pays off on the quizzes and tests. He is the best professor I have ever had and I actually understood math in his class.
Brendan teaches in an easy to understand manner and is the best math professor. He is always open to questions. Attendance is not mandatory at all but by going to every single class I received a high grade. Very quirky and kind man!
Sheehan is alright. He does try to relieve stress about grades, but he just didn't know how to pace 320. He didn't cover all the material in the syllabus and spent way too much time on quizzes and theory over example problems for the homework. He is pretty approachable outside of class, but wasn't the best at helping you learn in class itself.
Dr. Sheehan is a great lecturer. He gives you everything you need for the tests, quizzes and hw. He taught it so well that I thought I understood the material so I did not study that much. This was a bad idea, as I failed the first test. PRACTICE! He tests on what you don't think will be on the exam. If you fail, it's on you. I ended with a B.
A really solid choice for MATH 283. Lectures go over everything needed on quizzes or tests but also the occasional weird stuff that may show up in WebAssign homework. Willing to help, great at making things relatable for students to better understand.
Dr. Sheehan is a great teacher. I feel like I understood the material so well. You could tell he loved teaching it and it rubs off on the students. However, he does multiple choice exams, no extra credit, and is a tough grader on free response. 85% of your grade is exams. A great teacher, but a hard class due to his grading guidelines.
Sheehan was awesome. Definitely a must take for Calc 3. The 3 midterms and final exam was worth 85% of your overall grade but he is extremely transparent about specific types of questions for each test. Quizzes and homeworks fairly easy. Hard class generally, but not bad with Sheehan. Definitely get an A if you try.
By far, this man has been the best math professor I've had at UNR. He makes the material easy to understand, and constantly makes sure that everyone understands the material. Very kind and quirky professor!
Dr. Sheehan is absolutely awesome. He is an amazing teacher and tells you exactly what you need to know to pass the class. I hate math and I never missed a single point on anything. If you do the homework, pay attention in the discussions, and take super good notes, youre bound to get a good grade. Hes a really awesome teacher and makes math fun.
Dr. Sheehan will change your view on math. He is so passionate about what he teaches and it rubs off on the students. He strives to help you succeed and is super clear on what is on the test and quiz. He is weird in the best way possible. He is always moving all over the place because he loves math that much. This guy is a top-tier professor.
Sheehan is a run of the mill professor. I learned all of the topics covered in the class before so it was especially a breeze for me. Very fair grader, wants to help you succeed. Though if you've done at least Pre-Calc in high school, this class will be boring, but is an easy class.
Great teacher his lectures were very clear and easy to understand. Sometimes he went too fast but overall a great teacher. Quizzes are every Friday he takes a third of the questions off the study guide and mirrors it to the test. Weekly homework assignments that can be very easy or very time consuming depending on the lesson. Study and do your hw!
I'm not sure how Sheehan has a good score on here because me and all of the people in the class I was in with him struggled. His class is difficult, not clear, and overall I don't appreciate his teaching style. He is not inclusive when it comes to students and does not accommodate students with learning disabilities.
Sheehan is the best professor Ive had for math. He made Diff Eq easy for me! He was the only professor I had that didnt crap out when COVID shut things down. His lectures make things understandable, and hes very caring. The only things to watch out for: the tank problem, 3x3 matrices, and La Place Transforms
Overall a good class. He is good at explaining concepts and does examples in his lectures. Had 3 midterms, a few quizzes and homeworks, and a final
Sheehan is very good professor. The majority of people will love his teaching style as he makes concepts very clear and answers all questions just the same. This is def a hard class and YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK FOR YOUR GRADE. If you dont know how to study, this class will force you to find out. Homeworks are fine and usually short. Great guy.
Sheehan is a challenging but very fair professor. He makes you work hard but upholds his end by working hard to make sure you understand the material. The class is very test heavy and the first two tests are very difficult, but he gives extra credit towards the end. Overall one of your best options for calc 3.
Sheehan is a great professor. His lectures are very organized and meaningful. He does a good job of explaining tough concepts in simple ways. He always makes sure to explain well. The course is very homework and test heavy, but if you study even just a little, it is manageable. 3 exams and a final, with homework being due in bunches before an exam.
Best math professor at UNR, hands down. He makes high-level math so manageable and understandable. He gives great real-world examples to help contextualize formulas and it allows you to actually know what you're doing instead of memorizing and applying formulas. Take Sheehan if you're in calc 3!!! Best choice.
The work you put in will reflect the grade you get. I can't stress this enough for Game Theory.
Very fun class and you can tell Dr. Sheehan is passionate about what he teaches. This excitement rubbed off on me and I found myself excited to come to this class every day. Homework really helps you better understand the concepts and become more comfortable working problems. Awesome class and awesome professor; highly recommend both.
Amazing! Actually enjoyed this math class. Best professor I've ever had!
6 HWs, 3 Tests, 4 Quizzes, Final. Free textbook PDF found easily online. Sheehan is the best math professor at UNR, hands-down. I took his 283 class last semester as well and he is just as amazing in 320. Very clear expectations, lectures include awesome examples, and he provides formula sheets on tests. Accessible outside of class.
Too smart for his own good. I personally love his quirky jokes about math, but that doesnt mean the tests arent brutal. This man WILL give you hard questions, so study the different textbook questions and you'll be studying good. Math is hard. Good luck.
Great professor would take again
Sheehan is awesome. He makes topics very digestible and takes his time to explain concepts. Course is only graded by homework, one midterm, and the final, so you have to study well. Tests are kind of hard.
Prof. Sheehan is a great teacher! He explains everything really well and you can tell he wants to be there. About 2-3 WebAssign Homeworks due every week, 5 get dropped. Weekly quizzes in recitation, 3 get dropped. Three midterms, lowest score dropped. Super easy class if you come to lecture.
Dr. Sheehan is a very good math professor, a very caring, and nice person. The lectures are easy to understand, organized, and have great examples. Lot of homework and one quiz every week most of the time. Exams are in average difficulty; the issue is that 60% of the questions in every exam are multiple choice, which makes you lose points easily.
Ended up having to drop this class because I was failing. Barely goes over examples in class. Exams are majority multiple choice so that means no credit for showing work. I went to office hours, tutoring, and completed homework but my exams didn't reflect that. He explains concepts well, but doesn't prep well enough for exams & doesn't curve.
Difficult class is nature and his lectures made it worse. Math is typically learned and mastered through example problems, but this guy just wanted to go on and on about one specific thing that happened to not be on any of the 4 exams. Do not take him, take professor hernandez instead.
Brendan Sheehan is the best math professor at UNR. Its obvious he's passionate about math. He explains things very well and is very nice. He drops the lowest midterm, lowest 3 quizzes, and lowest 5 homework assignments. His exams are kind of unusual in the fact half of it is multiple choice, but those questions usually aren't very hard.
Really good lectures and notes. He drops multiple hws, quizzes, and 1 midterm. I felt like the hw and quizzes, and study guides prepared me well for the exams. He also gave extra credit on the last midterm which helped my grade a lot. Overall, great professor that is good at teaching and clear about what you need to know.
As long as you go to lectures you should be fine. Class meets 4x a week but only for 50 minutes. Quiz every week but he is very clear about what is going to be on the quizzes. Gives HW through WebAssign that is all due the day before each exam. Amazing teacher with very easy to understand lectures.
homework is due at the end of the unit so make sure you stay on top of it, grades only contain 2 exams, homework and a final, but exams have very clear and similar study guides. overall if you put in the work you will do well in the class
He is an amazing teacher give great real world applications and examples to better relate each topic and is always excited to teach
Hands down the best math professor I have ever had. Amazing person as well as professor, Dr. Sheehan explains concepts in such a clear and understandable way and he gets so excited about the material it makes me passionate about it as well.
The only class that was available was the 7 AM 4 days a week. His lectures are really nice and helpful, but the exams and the quizzes were a nightmare for me. I did every study guide he gave which had 20+ problems per study guide. I still almost failed. Great and caring dude, but this class experience was not nice.
You can tell that Sheehan is very passionate about his teaching. He always teaches with a smile and will gladly take extra time to help students understand confusing topics. His tests are a little more on the difficult side but if you study well, you will be fine. He gives generous partial credit on free response problems.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Really wants to be there and cares a lot for his students. He's really funny and explains things very well. Only complaint is the homework takes a long time and the final was 50% of the grade, but those are more issues with the class than him. He's as good as it gets, take him if you have the chance.
Great at teaching Calc 2. He talks fast, but he is very thorough with the material.
Exams were difficult but drops one exam, multiple quizzes and homework. Quizzes once a week with review before. Lots of partial credit. Clear about everything, he does sometimes go on tangents which can be a little confusing/distracting but responds to emails quickly and going to office hours ahead of time to ask questions will help you out more.
The exams are VERY similar to the study guides. If you are able to understand the study guide you should be set for the exams.
Professor. Sheehan's clear format, fair grading, and focus on fundamentals make it manageable. Weekly HW, consistent exams, and lowest score drops help. Attend class and discussion sections for most success.
Very enthusiastic professor that loves teachings and explains the material with great detail. His lectures and examples really help you understand what's happening. Hw isn't difficult either and his tests are fair. Super nice giving us quiz drops and a test drop.
Brendan Sheehan the goat he made Calc 2 easy and fun.
Incredible teacher who knows everything about calc 2. 25 HWs, 9 Quizzes, 3 Midterms, and the Final. Drops 5 HW, 3 Quizzes, and 1 Midterm. Talks fast but has amazing notes and is very thorough in his explanations. Study guides are almost identical to exams. I genuinely enjoyed his class and I wish I could take him again next semester.
best math prof i have had. super detailed goes through example problems, super easy to ask for help in and outside of class, just beware for the TA's. some can be very harsh graders
the BEST math teacher i've ever had, explains each unit in a way for everyone to understand unlike most math teachers i've had. a decent amount of hw but a lot of time to finish it, quiz once a week. his study guides are very well made and helpful for exams! highly recommend.
Under an hour covers an entire section and you get a thorough understanding of the background. Explains so clearly and repeats important parts multiple times so it's easy to learn and remember. You get a solid conceptual understanding of how the things work, and often get some examples to see it in use. With the time, don't often get to see proofs.
Great professor. He takes his time explaining topics and his office hours are very helpful. Class is lecture heavy so don't skip. Weekly quizzes are usually 1-2 questions and worth 100 points so doing bad on them will tank your grade.
Very interesting class and you can tell that he likes the material and cares about teaching. About 1 HW a week and just 1 midterm and the final. Homework was sometimes more difficult than what we did in class, but the tests were always easier than the HW. If you go to lecture and are good on the HW you'll be fine.
This class is very interesting and Sheehan teaches it well but the homework's are brutal. Will take you hours and are a lot harder than what he goes over in class. Only one midterm (30% of grade) and a final (50% of grade) which are terrifying scales but he makes them very easy compared to the homework. PAY ATTENTION IN LECTURE!
Amazing professor! His lectures are very informational, as well as I am able to focus on his teaching ability. The course is very well set up, and all of the homework is very easy if you go to class.
all ive gotta say is that he's absolutely amazing. be happy if you are taking 182 with him because you are in great hands. as long as you do the homework, attend and pay attention in lectures you are gonna be just fine. hes so awesome. #numberonefan
Honestly I wish Sheehan taught more upper level classes he is that good of a professor. Makes complex topics simple and tests are incredibly fair. He's the GOAT of Calc ll.
Sheehan's lectures are very good at explaining the material and he is a good teacher. However, the homework assignments are hard and long but it helps understand the material better. The exams are a little easier than the homework but still challenging and graded harsh. Midterm is 30% and final is 50% of the overall grade, exams do weight a lot.
Hes very clear abt exam/quiz topics making it easy to study. He gives hws every lecture but theyre not excessive. His lectures are detailed and thorough, pay attention and you will easily pass. Hes awesome!
His lectures are amazing and this class is one of the few I did not need to use outside resources for. He clearly loves teaching. Attendance is not mandatory, but you should still attend lectures. 1 weekly quiz, 1-2 weekly homework assignments, 3 midterms, and a cumulative final. He will drop 3 quizzes, 5 homework assignments, and 1 midterm.
He was very knowledgeable about the subjects and was great at explaining during the lectures. While attendance was not graded or mandatory, I would HIGHLY recommend not skipping regularly, as that's a quick way to get very lost. If you go to the lectures and put a good amount of effort into homework and studying you'll be fine.
