lots of knowledge...requirements too strict
Miss Chapman is a great teacher. You'll learn a lot from her, just take lots of notes and you'll do well on the tests. Do your part and use the studyguide. She's a bit tardy on returning papers. She's very approachable and SNL funny. Ask her what games she plays.
nice, enthusiastice teacher. some assignments were unclear and the test was disproportionate to the class. overall very interesting materical is covered but you have to take detailed notes, regardless of lenient lecture tone.
took class online, it was pretty cool
I had a hard time following her format.... of everything. I'd suggest taking Michelle Packansky-Brock instead. Nice person, just not for me.
i took this class online and it was very easy. all u have to do is take her tests and quizzes online, considering u can use your book and internet to complete them its cake. i got a B and never read the book or put any effort into class
There is a ton of pictures you have to write a little bit about but she is fairly easy and layed back. Don't like art, liked the class.
I really enjoyed taking this class. She tells you how to pace yourself on the Image Journals so you're not cramming before the test. She has a review class before tests and only two tests in class. Go to all classes and get notes because you use your notes for your image journals and lectures are helpful for recalling info. on the tests.
First thing that struck me was appearance. Best looking prof I've had, aside from J.Terry. Super easy-going woman with a quick laugh. Easy assignments with only a bit of memorization required. Likes talkers. Don't buy the book though.
took her online, she took forever to grade assignments, and reply to my emails, and required a trip to an art museum (this is an online class), overall poor online teacher. wasn't impressed at all, I've had much better online teachers.
Prehistoric-gothic art. great class. she makes things very interesting, and her tests are fair, as well as the assignments. i really liked her as a teacher, and hope to take another class from her. two thumbs up!!!
Ridiculously hard class. She makes you write essays and grades them as if she is an english teacher. Take this class if you like being bored and like writing A LOT of essays (and if you are extremely good at writing).
Had for Art1B online. Learned a lot of interesting details, I'm not an Art major but found the class interesting. There is A LOT of work - however, it prepares you well for the exams and artwork analysis. The one complaint is she take FOREVER to grade and post work. It's difficult to track your grade. Sometimes she seems a little scatterbrained.
Despite the structure of the class being kind of monotonous with just dense lectures everyday, Prof. Chapman's style is very engaging & her enthusiasm is contagious. She is very approachable & always willing to clarify. The class requires some memorization, but otherwise it's pretty easy to get the hang of how her class works. Highly recommended.
I took Art1B online and I really enjoyed the class, but if you are a perfectionist and want an A, make sure you go above and beyond. I never got a 10 out of 10 on one hw assignment, instead I got 9.5s. She grades very hard on analysis, as well. Overall, I learned a lot, but like I said... if you want an A, do a little extra for each assignment.
Awesome! I tried to take this class, Prehistoric through gothic art, through 3 different instructors and she was the only one who livened the subject and made me want to learn. AAA+++
AMAZING! My favorite teacher I have ever had! She is hip, cool, funny, and loves her art! she is a must!
One of the better teachers I've had, she is really into art and teaches it in a way you can understand. I had no interest in art prior to this class but she makes you want to learn more. I wish I could take more classes from her. Perfectionist grader however so don't expect an "a" unless you have perfect work.
I loved this class! I was not interested in Asian art at all, but was Sooooooo glad I took the class. The Prof is fun, cool, and loves art. It's rather infectious, and found I loved it and want to visit Asia! You don't get marked down if you don't attend, but you will fail the class if you dont. Loved it!
First off. This is an incredibly easy course. You can't get much easier. Anyone who complains should just leave college. Blindly memorize a few flashcards, and you'll get flying colors on tests and quizzes. She's a humorous professor and the lectures are very interesting. Probably the best Art History teacher around. Oh. And no textbook needed.
Sooooo hot!!!
I had a hard time in the class only because I was taking 17 units. A little bit of memory is required. Stay on top of the image journals that will help your grade and ask questions she loves that. She is a great teacher. Very understanding. Recomended.
She's an amazing art history professor. Brings the subject to life, makes you eager to learn more, and her class is structured so it's purely lecture based. She does have a textbook to get if you need it, but you don't NEED it to get an A. Her class is 5 quizzes, one dropped, 2 midterm tests, non cumulative for final, no group work, no essays.
Great teacher! If you do the work and pay attention to lectures you'll get a good grade! She is my favorite professor at Sierra!
Awesome teacher. Crystal clear in explaining work. Only 3 tests and 2 papers but the second paper can practically be made up. Also, doesn't hurt that she is very attractive.
I don't know what everyone is talking about. I'm an art history major & only got a C. I studied VERY hard & was in every class. Her tests seem easy at first but she grades like a nut. Everyone is rating her well because she's a nice lady. Don't take her class! It's dull & useless.
Great teacher! I hate history, and didn't know that I loved art. I now love history and Art. So, just make sure you keep up on those Art journals, they will help you get your styles down. Great teacher, and very aproachable!!
I don't know how people can get below a B in her classes. She gives you the study guide with any and all possible questions to her test! Ask questions, memorize key phrases and points, and you'll be fine. There's a LOT of writing in her class but it could have been worse. She's definitely the best art historian sierra has.
Her enthusiasm is infectious. If you have any interest in Art History at all you will enjoy this class. This does not mean you will do well on the tests and papers because they are not a breeze, but study and attend every class. Oh and do the art journal!!
I don't particularly like Art or History, but her enthusiasm makes it as interesting as it can be and also makes the lectures tolerable. If you do the study guide, and the writing she asks, then it's an easy A. I came in knowing nothing, and not caring to learn, surprising I liked the class and she is the reason.
She is so enthusiastic about the subject and tells really interesting stories related to the history of the paintings and the time period they are from. Her class is my favorite, very interesting and informational. All you have to do is pay attention.
Took her online art class. Her assignments were clear, she gave plenty of time to do them, and she answered emails promptly. Learned a lot more about feminism in this class than I did in my WST 1 class.
She's amazing. I love Art History to begin with, but even if you don't it's worth taking her class. She has a way of explaining things so that it'll stick with you even long after you've learned it. Her class was really special to me.
NIce lady, tests and quizzes were in essay form, and for the most part where easy enough if you studied. Lots of memorizing Artists, dates, and identifying paintings. I never used a book and the online information she provided is vague considering how detailed your essays have to be. Don't miss her class if you can help it; lots of note taking.
I took History of Asian Art with her and she got me so interested i decided to become a History Major. She is amazing at teaching and gives plenty of time and preparation for exams.
Do not miss any lecture! This class is fun! Lots of slides, arguements ... and keep note taking, do your journals weekly!
She is very passionate about the history of art, but can talk too fast sometimes. The homework isn't hard, but takes some time. Keep up on the journals. Attendance is absolutely mandatory. She is good at replying to emails. Everything is due before the tests. Her tests are mostly short essays, but the questions are given way in advance.
Professor Chapman makes the subject extremely interesting. I had no interest in art history prior to taking the class, but now I am considering minoring in it. She is always willing to answer questions and spend extra time on a subject if you need it. But she grades the midterm and final way too hard unless you reiterate what she says word for word
I thought that this would be an interesting class, but I ended up hating it in the end. This class focuses on being a feminist. Brenna was not very helpful. She grades her tests very hard. I read every single chapter, and did every assignment and they were still hard! Also, way too much work is required for this THREE unit class.
Unrealistic expectations!! This class takes up all my homework time and I have 4 other classes! I spend hours reading and learning the techniques. The Journal entries are way too long. I wish this prof understood some of us work and go to school!! Ease up on the hmwrk!
Super helpful! I emailed her at the beginning of the school year feeling very afraid of the class and the work, but I am loving everything I am learning. I am new to the world of Art, I knew nothing before I took this class, and I look fwd to each week now. I show my 6 year old what I learn, too! Highly recommend.
She was great! I normally do not learn in art history classes but she made it fun! Just keep up with your journals and pay attention in class and you will be good to go! Taking another one of her classes again next semester!
She took forever to grade the work. A lot of homework! Keep up with journal's or u will fall behind. Midterm and finals r same: two essays, one timed. She didn't really stay involved much, which is a pete peeve of mine w/online classes. Hello, we still need a professor! Interesting class, though. I liked it.
I received A's in 4 of the 5 classes I took this year (3 art history classes). This class was my only B+. If you get 2 questions wrong on her tests you are almost guaranteed a B. I went to every class, participated in every lecture. I did extra credit, wrote an A paper, did all my work. Do not take this class if you are not an art history major.
She took forever to grade papers and tests. Never got my essay back to see any comments. Just points in the gradebook so, I have no idea what I did wrong. Hard grader. Would not take again.
She is very passionate about this field. She is a very tough grader. She said she is interested in our thought process, but that was not true. She was highly critical if we did not meet her expectations. You do not get partial credit for journals so complete them entirely. Ren Art interested me before the class, but I ended up dreading this class.
Brenna is a phenomenal lecturer, she stays on topic, brings up a lot of "food-for-thought," and types out the lecture questions for us (we just have to fill in certain answers as she goes. I love this class. I recommend taking Asian Art with her because that is her specialty. EXCELLENT class. HIGHLY highly recommend.
Professor Chapman is amazing. She is very intense, passionate, friendly, and funny. Be prepared for her strong opinions. I think getting a broad range of perspectives is important especially in art history, but take everything with a grain of salt. Because what one teach says another doesn't. Draw your own conclusions, Brenna respects that.
Professor Chapman is okay. You really need to take notes as powerpoints are not posted on canvas (and they just contain pictures). Only two exams, mostly about our thought process on comparing styles of paintingsart. However, I would not recommend this class if you are not an art history major.
took this class because i thought it would be relativity easy, but it wasn't as easy as i thought it would be. there is definitely some influence of feminism in her teaching of this class, but it fits the context. i wasn't very interested in the subject before, but now I'll be taking another art history class next term.
Prof. Chapman is wonderful & very passionate about her subject. There are discussion boards, little quizzes, homework packets (that aren't hard if you put the time in), lectures and some videos from Khan Academy. She sets up class so well it is refreshing. She emails back fast. Her writing in her lectures in knowledgeable and easy to understand.
Prof. Chapman was great. Her discussions and lectures were so very interesting. She truly loves art and inspires her students to love it as well. I took this as an online class, and it was very manageable. One word of warning: On her tests, some of the answers may be found in places that are difficult to find, such as footnotes, so look for that.
Her written lectures are awesome. The material she covers is awesome. You learn incredible, life-changing stuff. The "homework pack" is way to vast, so beware of falling behind.... it's easy work but extremely time consuming if you want to do a thorough job on it. Other than the homework pack, this class is incredible and I highly recommend it.
Although I learned a lot from this class and enjoyed the material, I dreaded it. The homework packets are very intense and time consuming. The quizzes weren't bad but the essays were timed and always made me feel rushed. She is very passionate about art history and really knows her stuff but I personally won't be taking another class from her.
Would not recommend for someone who is taking the class to just fill a requirement. All your answers have to original with no outside help or you wont get full credit. The test seem rushed because of the time limit but are easy if you read what is required.
Very tough grader. Her tests are timed and really make you feel rushed. Once I didn't finish in time and she left a really nasty comment. The homework packets are extremely intense but worth more than the tests - I concentrated on those the most and I think that's only reason I passed with a B. Doesn't seem to like any opinion but her own.
I love this class and this professor. She knows what she is talking about and her lectures are fun and engaging. She assigns a lot of group work and all of the tests are really easy. Most of the class is just 4 exams and as long as you can defend your own opinion you'll get an A, and then an eportfolio project which is incredibly easy as well.
I took this class thinking it would be easy but it wasn't. I got my first B from this class and looking back at it, this class was pointless. She is very smart regarding art history but she expected way too much...
pleasantly surprised by how interesting she made the class. Lectures aren't bad (which is all the class is), you should take good notes and show up to class because the PowerPoints aren't online. I never touched the textbook, don't bother getting one. Quizzes are simple memorization, I would definitely recommend taking her!
This was my favorite class I took at Sierra College by far. Prof. Chapman is one of those rare professors who knows and loves her subject, and also knows how to translate that knowledge and passion into an effective class for her students. Very organized prof, facilitates excellent discussions, hard tests but no homework and a cool final project.
There is a lot of homework. Her class is not easy but you learn a lot. She answers questions all the time and provides feedback. Great professor.
Wow. AMAZING lectures. Brenna connects art to broader culture and has such a vibrant way of explaining it, classes go by so quickly. She's so genuine and has a true gift for teaching. (Sidebar, if anyone knows about MBTI, I am almost positive she's an INTJ. It's pretty amazing.) She is very clear and concise. Her assignments are not hard at all.
Her classes are informative and interesting but there is more homework and material than two other courses combined. There are weekly essays and homework packets, the tests are two parts: one exam and a timed essay. Highlighting social issues in papers will earn you points. Slow to grade your work too.
Many of my previous ways of looking at the world were challenged (in a good way). Passionate about her subject & wants to pass that passion onto her students. Fair grader, but "fluffy" answers are preferred, even if you can answer the question in 2 sentences. Homework packets take at least 3 1/2 hours, and you have a lot of them. Easy quizzes.
Brianna is an AMAZING professor! I absolutely loved her class! The whole class is just lecture, but she does an amazing job keeping it entertaining with her passionate attitude and engaging questions! You gotta show up for the lectures and do your homework packets or you'll be lost on the tests.
I feel like the class I took was way more work than it needed to be. You HAVE to read the text or you won't succeed in the long homework packets and the weekly discussion posts were very long too. I thought this was the norm for art history classes until I took a much easier one. I did like that there is only 6 quizzes and no big exams.
Not a easy A. There are lots of quizzes that count for a lot of points and you have to pay attention and study to do well. If you pay attention and devout 5 hours a week to studying you can get A if not you will get lower. She is very passionate about Art History
Unclear grading criteria, tough grading, social justice agenda shows constantly. It'd be fine if you weren't punished for questioning said agenda.
Decent professor. Not clear enough written prompts on quizzes... I gave her my best answers and she expected answers that wasn't hinted at at all. Some extra credit opportunities though. Make sure you utilize the homework packets throughly, you're gonna need them for studying.
Prof Chapman is a good professor. She clearly knows a lot about her subject and is very good at articulating the content of her subject. Her homework packets in this class were a little tedious, but mainly because they were so easy that it just felt like info regurgitation. Overall, she was awesome and the class was fairly straightforward
Not a bad person just made the class way harder than it needed to be. Art appreciation shouldn't be a class I should have to worry and grind for when I have labs that are easier. The work itself was managable but she just graded so harshly. I would defintely not recommend taking her and opt for a different professor.
She is a very nice professor, isn't very strict at all when it comes to her class, however she is a hard grader and seems to deviate a bit from the assigned rubric. Very inconsistent grading, as well as the class being very test and project weighted. One of those teachers that just can't give you a 100% on an assignment even if done correctly.
Took two of her classes and enjoyed them both immensely. Would definitely take her class again and do recommend her especially if you are an art history major. She is a tough grader however she exams are based on what you learned in class and there are never surprises so you know what to prepare for. Super helpful at any time you need help.
Excellent teacher! She is patient, kind, and responds to all questions. Really enjoyed her class and her lectures. She has the ability to make you see the art and understand the culture behind it. Definitely take another class with her.
She is a high quality teacher, if you feel like learning something then take her classes. She will make you think about art history beyond the art and the history - you will end up considering much larger ideas and concepts as a result. She's fun to listen to, very engaged. More guys should consider taking her AH 132 class.
Chapman was by far my favorite class this semester. While I wouldn't consider this an "easy" class, Chapman is communicative, organized, and you can tell she is passionate about her subject. Homework includes a discussion post and some lecture reading every week, with tests every other week.
Brenna Chapman is a great teacher! I say participation matters because she actually utilizes the discussion board for one of the main weekly assignments. This is more than just an art class; it's a historical examination of women's position in society, and in my opinion, that's what makes this class so important.
There are weekly quizzes, quick writes, and DB's for each week in depts lecture & notes. All very helpful when providing structure. I never needed to contact Prof, but in her lecture videos, she exudes genuine excitement about teaching Asian Art history.
Brenna Chapman is very clearly passionate about art history and as such, the course was super fun and engaging. She was incredibly accessible (especially for an online environment) and gave lots of feedback/was easy to chat with. My only criticism is that sometimes there were topics on the study guide that I did not remember studying that week.
Get's you fascinated about the subject, very supportive and understanding. So thankful I was able to participate in the course.
The lectures and readings are so clearly organized and formatted in the most entertaining way. I feel as though I undoubtedly was taught the material. The modules had a mix of power point lectures as well as readings and images to study which I found to be a stimulating way to forward information.
I love this class so much! All of the assignments are due every Sunday so you have lots of time. She is very organized and her lectures are outstanding!
She was one of my favorite professors of all time at Sierra. I enjoyed every single lecture and knew exactly what my assignments entailed. Every week the assignments were the same, save for the midterm and final. This made it very easy to spend adequate time doing assignments. Would take her classes again and again if I could.
Professor Chapman was awesome. Her course was thorough but not too difficult to get through, and most importantly for me she was extremely caring and understanding when my living situation abruptly changed halfway through the semester and let me catch up 5 weeks worth of work for full credit.
Professor Chapman is wonderful. Her course is engaging, and the weekly expectations are fair and simple enough. She responds quickly and provides thorough information for students to utilize in their studies. She is very sweet and dialed-in with her students
She's such a kind professor who really cares about her students and I always had so much fun with our discussions in class. She makes the lectures interesting, especially because she's so passionate about the topics. You can turn stuff in late for full credit as long as its before the exam, which there's only like three so you have a lot of time.
Professor Chapman is a wonderful person! She is incredibly passionate about what she teaches. You will get a lot more knowledge and value out of her classes than you'd expect. I'm planning to take as many of her classes as possible. There is a reasonable amount of work involved, but you can do it all in class without a problem.
She is the type of professor who doesn't give As because nobody is perfect. Her lectures were really interesting, and I enjoyed listening to her ideas. She is really good at answering questions, but she is such a strict grader for a general education class. You have to explain EVERYTHING on the exam to get a good grade.
Women in Art History was my second class with Professor Chapman. She is one of the greatest instructors I've ever had. Her classes aren't about memorizing details, they're about becoming a kinder and more open-minded person. My advice is to remember key-terms she likes and use them on essays. I loved being her student.
She was the worst professor I have had at Sierra College. Her class has too much work for a general ed class. I am a business major and I ended up spending more time study for her class then I did in my accounting classes. Also, she is a tough grader even if you demonstrate all the outcomes she is looking for she still doesn't give a good grade.
She was a good professor, but if you're thinking about taking this class for gen ed, DO NOT DO IT!! I ended up studying for her class more than I did for any class relevant to my major. I would only recommend her if you've taken one of her classes before. Also, she lets people yap A LOT during lectures, even when it's not relevant whatsoever.
Chapman really made me want to drop art altogether. She doesn't really know history that well. It was clear. Lots of busywork.
Art Appreciation. Really tough grader, you'll feel confident in the material but her nitpicky grading will bring you down. Lots of online work, felt like the semester long project wasn't as useful as it could have been. No extra credit opportunities but can redo online modules. Friendly but a little intimidating.
This class made me loose my mind. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I answered every question and nothing was ever good enough. You don't blurt out in class? no grade. very "her" opinion based except your own. every test i took i still got the average and look at my grade. if you dont overexplain you fail. says "youll be ok" when you wont. AVOID HER PLS
She is nice but grades way to hard for a general ed elective, very unclear grading way to strict overall. I spent double the time in this general education elective than i did any all my other classes combined. Also to if you dont agree you fail she kinda just made stuff up it seemed like. if you didnt do it her way = fail.
I took Art Appreciation with Professor Brenna Chapman and before I start I will say that it was an 8-week hybrid course and it was definitely very difficult. Brenna Chapman always gave clear instructions and was very available for when I needed help. If you take this course with this Professor get ready to write (by hand) a lot.
