excellent prof, lots of experience and knowledge, so sexy

Waayyy too much information to be covered in one semester. Whatever time you are given to take an exam, you'll need to double it to finish.
great class! brent is very fair, he will help if you need it. very knowledgable.

Very informative, fair, knowledgeable, but oh so hot!!!!

he knows everything about anything and if he dosen't know something he can convince anyone he does. The only prof I know who calls himself a ****. He floods your head with very usefull information, however his exams are hard as hell.
Excellent prof! He demands and expects a lot, but it's only to help his students succeed. Always willing to help, and offers his time in dedication to his love for teaching.
He makes you learn, absorb, and apply the concept. Study hard for his class. He won't answer your question unless you already throughly thought over the concept before hand. Interesting prof but can be very harsh. WAY TOO HOT!!!
Lectures & material are good... but is a VERY hard marker and exams are 100pgs long. UNUSUALLY SHORT ARMS! MIDGET ARMS!!!!!
He enjoys challenging the minds of his students. If you can prove him wrong or show your expertise in an area, he will call upon you, to expalin the circumstances in that particular field. Overall, heavy course load, great learning experience!
Brent is a great prof who cares about his students. So understandable & caring. Knows what its like to be a teen. Always available to help if u need it, cares about you as a student and your learning. Best prof ive had or will have im sure!
He is NOT hot. He is old and has a huge, huge behind.
The guy is the biggest blow hard I've ever met! I learnt more about him and his personal life than I did about the course. Oh, that's not true... I learnt that he has a thing for young, female blonds. He's a complete ass.
He's a tough prof. He does drive his students to know their stuff. All comments made about him are pretty true. You either like him or you don't. Not very good with email response though.
He is a great teacher, but his exams are hard. He want his students to know the material. Read the required text. He is a really fun and easy-going guy if you get to know him. He also likes to challenge his students.
Great prof, more interesting than most.
He's a good prof, and was one of my favourites becuz he wasnt always talking, hed interact with the class have discussions and activities, things that helped learning. but then he wouldnt shut up and bored me to death. he still was an okay prof, but damn did he have a nice ass =P
Buuuu!!! Brent SUX!!!!
Gentleman.... he doesn't let anyone fail, however, never expect getting to easy mark from him. Because, he mark it as "all" average students. Only if you can study 200%, otherwise you looking at from B to C+. Thinking is more important than huge hardwork. The higest mark students are all great thinkers. He will make you huge busy!! but for good.
He's a great prof, but his midterm's hard!!!!heheh..dun worrie..u'll enjoy his class!!!
Fabulous prof and individual. favourite prof so far.
He's helpful and he knows what he's talking about.
YEAH BARR
Brent is a great professor. He makes the class extremely fun and worth going to. The way he talks to the class really keeps u awake and interested. Very respectful professor. You'll have a great time in his class.
he's a pain in the ass to impress. He gave every1 so much un-needed stress.
Great!
Brent is a great prof. His classes are fun and his lectures are great. He is very approachable and is willing to help out his students no questions asked. If you have the chance to be in one of his classes GO FOR IT! you'll have a blast

Good Overall Teacher
Brent is not only a great prof, but a great guy! He's incredibly approachable and will do anything he can to help you. He's lectures are always interesting and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting through his classes!
he's an amazing prof
One of the best professors you will ever have, but also one of the toughest professors you will ever have. He works you hard, and pushes you to do better than you ever thought you could. Advice: Actually study 30 hours for his exams and you will do fine. Dont panic after the first midterm, just learn from your mistakes
Lectures are fun, interesting, and overall great. Midterm was tough as was the final exam, but you get a cheat sheet for that.
Want good _ easy BUT only if you are blondy _ BOY never get A _ PERSONALITY-Base marking prof
An inspiration. Will have a big positive influence on you.
****!
He's alright.
You must bring vasilin to all his exams, because otherwise ur behind will hurt for weeks after. Thats how we all feel like, just like getting screwed by a you know what. All his questions include all of the above, none of the above, and B or just c and sometimes he throws in just d.
great teacher
Has thorough knowledge of the marketing industry. Classes were entertaining and insightful, funny stories etc. Distribution of marks needs improvement. 15% participation mark (attending class isn't enough) while group assignment only worth 15%??!!?! Midterm and final were ALL multiple choice but includes freebies. Nice guy though.
Interested in class, gives helpful advice in order to get a job, could teach more, I feel lecture is not related to exams
He is passionate, but he comes across as very arrogant and pompous. The work load is insane in this course, final exam was 20 chapters, plus online notes, audio, and math. I've taken 4th year courses which aren't as insane as this. He takes forever to return your work. Not very approachable or helpful.
Great Prof with thorough knowledge of field. Lectures were insightful & entertaining. Highly recommend this professor but be prepared to work! Expects a lot from you.
Lots of reading - the final consisted of the entire text book, math and online notes. Responded to emails quite quickly, but didn't get project marks back very quickly. I would recommend him as a prof, but just be prepared to memorize that text book for the exams!
He is very interesting in his lectures. I really enjoyed him has a teacher. Be pepared to read entire text book. Math is very useful attend his math tutorials! Midterms were fair and final exam was long but fair. Final project is hard! and he marks it hard be prepared to work very hard! I would recommend him too anyone!! Good teacher!!
AWSOME- HE'S GREAT!! WAY TO GO!
Very good prof! but he expects alot. i took course at night but he expects weekly meetings for your group project phases. however, if light course load, TAKE HIM!! you will get money's worth and won't sleep in his class! BUT! ATTEND CLASS!! sometimes he gives bonus or hints for exam!
Very nice prof. Knows what he is teaching and got great experience to back it up. Lectures are fun to attend and midterms were one of the most relaxing ones ive seen as he adds many bonus questions.
I've rated Brent before but I wanted to say that this is probably the best course he teaches. Yes, there is a lot of work involved but at the end of the day you really do learn a lot about International Retailing.
Very good prof. Loves himself too much, i'd say waaaay to much. Make sure you read the text because evrything thats on the final comes from the textbook. Also make sure you attend all his lectures because many of the questions that were on the final were in the text book, but were mentioned during his lectures.
he so doesnt care students and will not help at all!
One of the worst professors I have ever had! not helpful at all and requires about 4 emails to get a decent and helpful answer out of him. Turned me right off of Retail.
His expectations for the project were intimidating. Marks pretty fairly, though can be a bit nitpicky. If you put in the effort you should be able to get a good mark. I wouldn't recommend this course with Brent if you are just looking for an easy PR, as the workload is quite heavy but you'll learn a fair amount about retail if you do. Exams are OK.
best professor ever in ryerson. pretty heavy workload in this course but he clearly stated what is his expectation on midterm and exam. very caring and help with student needs. take brent for retail!
Great professor! His class was interesting and he used a lot of examples to make sure everyone understand concepts clearly. Offered help to students in tutorial sessions. The midterms are pretty straight forward.
Took 902 and 906 with Brent. Always responds to texts/emails in a timely manner. Prepare for LOTS of work and participation marks but he is a fair marker. Very nice and understanding, enjoyable lectures. May seem confusing at first but he is always eager to help. Overall, great professor!
take this course in person if you can. i did distance ed and it's a waste of Barr's skills and depth of knowledge. He's a prof you want to sit in front of and ask endless questions. very knowledgeable but a hard course, you have to do the work and know text back to front. fair but hard. test bank is riddled with bad questions that need fixing.
Took this course online. Too much weekly work for an elective. Too many tests with way to many multiple choice. (80 in 80 mins, 160 in 160 mins etc). Focuses on wayy to many things instead of narrowing in on the key items IMO.
Great prof! Course was very interesting, gave me the ins-and-outs of franchising. He really tries to make sure that everyone is keeping up with the class. Took us on a field trip to franchising show as well! Highly recommended you take him at least once! Required to do work in his class, cannot slack!
Expectations for an online course are ludicrous! Poor communication.
Great Prof.Lectures were insightful and entertaining. I highly recommend him but be prepared to work.
He's very inconsiderate. There's zero help when you are in a situation where you need marks. The whole online submitting process is horrible. For example if you submitted it online but forgot to email it also he will give you a zero. Very cold guy
Professor Barr is a very intelligent man, and he has a lot of useful information to provide in this class. Be prepared as this is a very dense class. Final exam covers 15 chapters, 13 modules, and 7 math modules. It is not a bird course by any means. Exams are fair but you are not allotted enough time to finish in all cases.
Brent is outstanding, available always online fo rhelp, spend plenty of time with the class, best professor I have in Canada so far! His design for the class really teaches you and helps understand the material. Great work from professor Barr. It looks like many students are spoiled - he's the ONE and ONLY. Thanx Brent and good luck to you!
The class was really demanding and he is not clear on what he expects from us in regards to the projects. He is approachable and very helpful. I hated doing the push-ups
If your looking to not work and get good grades, don't take him as your prof. if you are in need of better grades this is not the class for you. He is an extraordinary teacher but his test are very hard. So in short, take this class if you care about actually learning as supposed to your grades, don't take it if your looking only for good grades.
Tough grader would be fine if his exams are straight forward. But even thats not the case. Can be unapproachable because of the sarcasm often delivered in his answers. I have had many tough teachers, even though Brent has exceptional real-life experience and knowledge, he has the tendency to complicate the delivery of the information to students.
Annoying class, very annoying final group project with horrible outline. Overall interesting prof, talks about himself a lot but his lectures are fine. Just a lot of group dependant work and you are assigned groups.
A lot of group work. Material is easy but he likes to drag it out. Grading is unclear and final project is more work than those in capstone courses. Took this as a PR, there are better options out there. He also says he's easy to contact but didn't reply to multiple emails.
I have had a variety of tough graders and long-winded proffs over the 2 years at Ryerson. But this one is something else. He will turn the simplest concepts to the most complicated thing you have ever had to understand. Very unapproachable- he maintains a sarcastic & condescending response to everything. Used to love MKT Brent changed that .AVOID
What on earth was the final project even about?? The final project was well beyond the scope of the course and had us doing things that were not even taught! There are two group projects, pop quizzes, weekly assgnmts + an exam. He's honestly a really great guy, but he demands beyond the scope of the course and is never clear about what he wants.
He was a great prof all in all. Very helpful and available when needed. Was a bit too specific at times but it is obvious that he does it in hopes that we carry his values into the real world. His class was hard, but worth it. All professors should be this engaging.
he talks a lot about himself, so we barely get through the lecture. you have to read the entire book- and thoroughly. his mid-term is timed and he give novel questions that you barely have time to read and finish. multiple choice but very specific and short answer (which are 10 questions in 1). Group project was barely explained. Long to grade.
Brent Barr is a very hard marker, to do well you must exceed his expectation meaning you have to participate in his class fully in order to receive an "okay" mark. All the tests that we received, there was barely any time to double check our answers. Barr also reply to his email very long, and sometime dont even expect an email from him.
Not helpful or clear with the course. His midterms and finals are ridiculous and unrealistic. 80 MC in 80 minutes? Just doesn't make sense to me. You're tested more on your ability to answer within a given time frame than you are to understand the concepts and terms in the textbook. Unfortunately he is the only one who teaches this course.
He can be pretty nice and helpful, but watch out! He is extremely hard when it comes to his exams. He will put quotes from his lectures on the exam without even warning you that it will show up on the exam, and he will put questions from chapters that haven't been covered! Also, he is mean to students who don't attend his class or leave early.
fair prof & marker, beware of group projects (you get to pick your members), midterm & final was ok but confusing; for RMG100 no textbook but make sure to read all the articles & powerpoints AND makes you do push-ups if your 10 minutes late!
Very passionate professor - his teaching method seems to be aimed towards inspiring student interest rather than simply providing knowledge. As a result, do very well, students are expected to (1) read the textbook & (2) show up to his entire class don't leave half way, many of the questions you will see on the exam will be directly from class.
HORRIBLE PROF! Hard marker, unfair, and unclear for assignments. You can follow exactly what he states in the rubric and still you will not do well. The second time having him as a prof and I swear it doesn't get any easier. He makes students do unrealistic assignment that are difficult and then proceeds to marker them even harder.
he a tough grader in a sense where he makes you work every minute for your grade. participation is a _______ :) you must attend every class and participate otherwise you will loose 25% of your grade. cant just come to class which sucks. and the reports are in the 20-30 page length. He as a prof may be awesome or not.. depends on you.
Horrible! I have had him twice and clearly I did not learn the first time!! His final group projects are unrealistic, 20-30 pages long and no form of clarity. His lectures are boring and participation is a must, worth 25%. He expects a lot and markers even harder. The only thing you gain from this prof is STRESS.
He's an okay prof. His lectures can be boring, & you definitely need to read the textbook word-for-word. His group project for the class was confusing with no structure except for page limits for word content/exhibits - choose your group wisely! It was a 6-9pm class and usually ended an hour or so early. Had class examples in midterms/finals too.
I took his course on the summer and it was so far the best. There were 3 online midterms and a final exam (with multiple attempts). Since its online you have weekly discussion boards but they are fairly easy. The only downside is the 1min per question in the exams, so be sure to read the book as most of the questions are from there.
I took this class online, the amount of work you have to do for this class is ridiculous. This man is a fool, he acts like this is the only course that your taking. I have taken plenty of online courses, and the discussion board posts are usually one each week with one reply to a peer. This man makes us do four each week, not including replies.
If you can help it, get in Barr's class. He has a ton of real-world marketing experience so he really knows what he's talking about. He really engages all his students and inspires them to excel both inside and outside the classroom. He requires a high level of participation, out of my comfort zone but well worth it in the end. One of the best!
Inspirational, knowledgeable, and funny. One of the best
The effort required in discussion posts are ridiculous. Its an intro to retail course yet he asks from you 4 topics of discussion posts each week and 2 replies for each topic. Not to mention you have to research these posts and put sources to them. Ive taken a 3rd year and 4th year online course and both required 1 post and 2 replies weekly
Really good at explaining concepts and simplifying things in lecture. Super straightforward midterm and final. We did weekly in-class assignments and he's a fair marker. Textbook is not necessary but helpful because some stuff on the midterm was not covered in lecture.
Brent goes above and beyond to help students that actually want to learn. He can come off as mean for being a hard marker but I have never had a professor that genuinely cared so much about his students. He loves teaching and that's what matters.
Effort needed is not too much but the discussion posts are brutal and unrealistic. Your asked min. 3 questions a week that are pointless and need to research to answer properly. He is also very unorganized in the way he sets up his course. Also, good luck getting a straight answer from him in his emails.
Class is super easy and if you take it online, believe me it's an easy 4.33
Brent's a really good prof! He has a ton of experience in the marketing field, and really knows what he's talking about. He's really nice, fun, and genuinely wants to see students do well. Group project is a bit overwhelming, & midterm and final are straightforward. GO TO ALL HIS CLASSES, participation counts! alsogivesanswerstobonusqsonexams#
Tests are easy but long, everything is from the textbook or online modules. Participation is key to do well in the online weekly discussions.
Make students respond and participate in the class to get 10% of the grade. The first answer is 0.5% of the mark, and each following - one-tenth of the first mark (0.05%). To get the 80% participation mark, you will have to answer an average of 6-7 times each class. Despite this, an amazing teacher and a professional in the field of marketing.
LOVES to talk about himself... it's painful to sit through his lectures He kept warning us that he could fail us if we didnt attend his class. Calm down! Avoid him if you can He does not provide enough information for you to complete the projects - and then he marks you poorly. It's really hard to understand what he is looking for.
There is an unnecessary amount of work for this course. IThis course required 3-4 fully researched discussion posts per week and responding to 2 people I think it was per post. (Reminder that this is an intro course). I took my loss in participation. The final written paper is based on 5 posts so do at least 5 properly.
Brent Barr was the kindest and most organized professor i have had in my 4 years at Rye. His outline and expectations are clear from Day 1 and he is ALWAYS available to help... Yes there is a lot of work (modules) but it really helps you retain the knowledge. 4 exams and are all from textbook and lectures.
For an intro class, he assigns way to much work. Weekly discussion posts are long and there are close to 4-5 per week for 12 weeks for only 10% of your grade. Written report is also a lot of work for something that is worth 10%. Tests are easy, just read textbook as it is taken straight from there.
Absolutely awful. You're required to make 3-5 discussion posts per week that are altogether worth only 10%. Not only this, but he is very picky on how you do them because he even made an announcement stating that he expects you to write each one as if its a report. He clearly does not understand that students work full-time and have other classes.
Assigns 4-5 discussion questions a week, very unreasonable for students with full time jobs and other classes. However, he does not seem willing to change.
There are many discussion posts, I will admit, but Brent is great honestly! It helps retain the information, and his course is very well structured. If you put in effort, it should be an easy A+ with Brent!
A lot of work, 3 midterms, 1 assignment, a final exam, and weekly participation boards. The tests were very fair and students had multiple attempts to improve their marks. Weekly discussion boards were too much, we were expected to include research, textbook, and module references in multiple discussion posts per week + respond to classmates.
I took it thinking it would be an easy asynchronous bird course. It isn't difficult, but theres wayyyy too much to write per week for the weekly discussion posts that are mandatory. Look elsewhere for an asynchronous bird course, this ones too much work.
