very nice guy, he's not a real showman but he teaches well and covers everything you'll need for the exams. pretty easy too..the first assign. is worth 25% and its super easy. He's such a hottie too...

He's a really great prof; covers a lot of material in class, which can make them move slowly at times, but are really helpful. The tests are fair, but you have to know the specific names of the concepts for the second test.

Boring class. Difficult final exam. And assignments are easy. Brent is quite boring, he needs to work on his presentation layouts, make them more interesting or something... makes me fall asleep.

His course isnt too hard, but you do have to know the exact concepts! Print out the lectures before and read as he goes along! Helps a lot.

Good Prof, easy to follow, if you have a decent geography background, you'll do fine on the tests. Only 2 tests (25% each) and 2 assignments in the course (very easy, and again 25% each) Easy 1st year course!

He is relatively easy to follow and a very nice guy. Class is a little boring and his last test was a lot harder than the midterm, but great first year course to take!!!

Great guy! He gave me a 2 week extension on an assignment, cuz I told him I was overwelmed. EASY class, perfect 1st year class. Boring to listen too, boring material. 1st test was a joke, 2nd much much harder. Assignments are very easy too. Great guy!!

The class is not that hard, you need to go to all of his classes, since he shows maps and diagrams that are not in the text, but are on his tests. He is a great guy, interesting, HE KNOWS HOW TO TEACH. Take the class with him, if you have to take it.

This class isnt so bad! Assignments are easy and prof very helpful and replies fast to emails. Take good notes on videos and you shall be okay! He can make you fall asleep sometimes.. but thats okay we can all use some extra naptime :)

Oh god this class was a waste of time. Being a Geography major I found it stupid. I learned a lot of the same thign I did in high school. The only classes I made sure I went to was the ones with movies showing other then that if I didn't want to go I didn't. It's easy but you still gotta do work.

excellent elective... minimum workload and easy tests

Easy credit. TA's are very helpful. If your taking the course next semester, buy the book from the used bookstore. I want my money back...;)

Makes the lectures available online - really good prof, good course, workload isn't overwhelming, lectures are good. Take this course!

tip for ppl to do even BETTER in this class: get a doctors note to skip out on the midterm test! THATS the only HARD part!! the rest is easy.. do good on assign 2 also- they mark it the hardest

Very nice prof who is enthusiastic about the material and wants to help students. Tries to make class fun with movies. Grading is fair but class is way too easy in my opinion. Interesting material covered though. Textbook is pretty useless since you are only tested on lecture material and movies.

Great class. Not hard at all if you do the readings and attend classes. The teacher is fabulous, and the workload is not alot or hard. The material was interesting and he makes learning enjoyable and fun and also makes you want to go to class. I recommend this one to people that are unsure about geography, it will make you love it.

Doberstein is passionate about the students' learning and besides the dead open discussions in class, his tests are relatively easy, all lecture & video material are on the tests (textbook lightly emphasized) and the 25% paper is a breeze (if you can write a structured essay!) just make sure you're awake during early lectures unlike me :(

He is extremely helpful and fun as a prof. Very genuine prof who teaches at a student level and is very down to earth. He's a fair marker and is very encouraging for future careers in geography. I highly recommend you take classes with him.

Brent is the nicest & easiest prof ever! This is my second course I have taken with him, and his grading schemes are always the same (no final exams) which is great! This course was kinda boring, I stopped attending after the first midterm but I finished with a decent mark. I plan to take any courses that Brent teaches for the rest of my UW career

Classes are very interesting. He puts lots of effort in his slides which mean the textbook is not used very often. I would definitly take another of his classes.

Great prof. Class layout was very simple - 1 essay and 3 quizzes. Quizzes were mainly based on lecture notes. Recommend having his as a prof!

Prof. Doberstein is the greatest guy in the world. I took his course as elective and turns out to be the best courses ever taken. You have 3 midterm and 1 essay due, and thats your final mark. Amazing prof i suggest every to take his class..No its not hard class involves little bit reading like any other class. WOW thats all i have to say..

This man made me switch to Geography. Fantastic professor, extremely passionate and explains and connects concepts together. Great use of movies as a supplement to course work. Great, is all I have to say.

He is an absolutely amazing prof. If you ever have the opportunity to take one of his classes, take it. He's a brilliant scholar and an exceptional teacher.

Brent is a great Prof. The subject can be boring at times but he tries to make it more exciting with funny examples. Only 4 "quizzes" and no final. He focuses almost completely on class material for tests. Easy to get a good mark.

The guy is awesome. He explains everything very clearly, and keeps class interesting with his many jokes. You really don't need the textbook because he is such a great teacher. He's also very helpful if you have any questions. Nice guy, fantastic teacher. Take his courses.

Amazing prof. Inspiring and very passionate. I admit I didn't study as I should have off the textbooks, but I learned more from him on environment, culture, and LIFE then the rest of my teachers combined.

He's an amazing teacher, the only things on the tests are what he says in lectures, therefore no need to read the textbook, just use it for reviewing purposes. It can get a bit boring at times, but that's just the material. THIS GUY KNOWS HIS STUFF! Its also really easy to do well in this class, the m/c test are SUPER easy if you study!

Incredibly easy class with only 4 quizzes yet was really fun. Brent obviously knows his stuff.

Overall a good class to take. Lectures are definitely helpful to attend, they offer clarity. His quizzes are fair, as well as the final assignment. He's a super nice guy and does everything he can to make the class interesting.

I love Brent! He's so nice and funny and helps with anything your unsure in. You can tell he truly loves what he teaches as his slides display places his been,and research he's done. Dr. Doberstein is a very interesting and intelligent professor. He has an immense knowledge with regards to his field of study. I would highly recommend taking a class with this man. Additionally, he shares interesting knowledge that he has gained while in the field. His research seems to be very interesting.

My favourite first year prof by far. Goes at a good pace, slides are easy to understand and he's quite funny. This class consists of four tests and they were all super easy and straightforward and you don't need to read the textbook. It's an amazing class with an awesome prof.

Brent is the kind of guy who you'd want to be your grandpa: helpful, kind, sweet, and funny. Very interested in his areas of research and knows what he's talking about. Class was comprised of 3 tests and a paper, and all were fairly graded and of the right difficulty. Went to class to fill in slides, but mostly went to hear him talk. Great dude.

I LOVED Geog 101 with Brent! I'd take anything he teaches. He genuinely cares about students and is interesting and interested in what he teaches. Absolutely fantastic prof.

He is the best professor that I ever had. His presentation is understandable and clear. only three quizzes and one film review report and you done. there is no final for this course. really like this course and the prof. must take if you are a geographer!

Doberstein deals very well with what he is given: a massive undergrad class for human geography. His lectures are well crafted, align well with the textbook, and follow a logical flow. If you attend lectures, review the slides, and read the textbook, you should be able to get a good mark without much fuss. Get the textbook from the library.

Brent is an amazing prof. His lectures are interesting and correspond with the textbook perfectly. He puts all of his slides on learn, making it easy to study for the few tests that make up your grade. If you go to class you shouldn't even need to study because he explains things so well.

One of the best professors at University of Waterloo in my opinion. Very passionate about the subject being taught, and teaches in a way that makes the lectures very interesting. Incredibly nice guy and fair marker!

He is a good prof. His explanation is very clear. As long as you go to lecture, you can easily get good marks.

Brent is the best. His lectures are interesting and clear. He explains things in multiple ways and give lots of examples, the reading helps a lot but as long as you go to class you would do well. He is thoughtful and tries to save you money with the textbook. I plan on taking more courses with him for sure.

Had Brent first term of Uni and last term of Uni, he hasn't changed. Very nice and consistent prof. Still leaves blanks in his slides so best to attend class. Tests and papers are easy as long as you pay attention in class. No final and shows interesting documentaries.

Brent has been great so far! I come out of his lectures feeling like I've learned something and compared to some other classes, that's a big deal. He's clear with what his expectations are which is super helpful, especially for first years. He's inspired me to want to pursue more specific geography topics in the future.

Geog 101 was probably one of my favorite courses this term. Brent Doberstein helped Geog 101 achieve that level of greatness. His marking was based on 3 quizzes and an assignment. The quizzes were rather simple (2 multiple choice, 1 short answer) and the assignment was a breeze if you followed instructions. Everything is worth 25% each. 10/10 great

Very easy class with a great professor. Quizzes are very straightforward and it's not hard to get perfect on them. Remember to start the assignment early!

Brent was very clear and thorough, it was obvious to me that his main goal was to get students to learn. He really cares about his subject and makes everything interesting. Tests and assignments are totally manageable, just make sure not to miss any classes. Brent is super understanding and helpful, wants the best for his students.

Chill dude, interesting course if you like geography and/or the environment. Clear and organized - not too tricky either (which doesnt hurt)

He's the first professor that I've ever had that's been super chill and can explain what he's trying to convey to everyone in simple terms without people getting lost. The course wasn't too intense, but you have to come to class! He puts his lecture slides online but he leaves some slides blank, so you can fill it out in class.

Doberstein is a geography department favourite! He is super engaging, and brings experience (and even a narwal tusk!) to class. Doberstein wants his students to succeed, and even emailed the class an extensive list of job and internship opportunities at the end of the semester. If you can take one of his classes, do it!

Amazing professor! Engaging lectures and lots of the material in the exams are from these lectures. He is also approachable so questions are always answered.

Doberstein is hands down an all around perfect prof! He made online school seem enjoyable which most profs failed to do imo. His lectures were super interesting, assignments were actually fun, gradings were done fairly, course setup was easy to navigate. He even refused to force us to buy txtbks and used free articles instead! Overall 10/10 a gem!

Great prof hands down. His lectures were good. He taught them in an interesting and engaging way. Often struggled with the volume of videos but it added to the experience. All the readings we had to do he posted specifically so we wouldn't have to buy it. I would suggest reading them bc test questions pull directly from them.
