AMAZING TEACHER! he gives huge curves. if something is on the review and not on his exam he will give you points for it. he only has 2 exams (midterm and final) but don't worry he allows extra credit. fun class, and he has amazing videos to watch! really funny and i loved the class.
Very cool class, actually learned a lot. I did not have him at UTSA but rather Northeast Lakeview a community college nearby
Very good professor. And hot too. :)
you dont HAVE to go to class but it helps out ALOT on test because 80% is from lectures and videos. He does give a review for the two grades he gives, (midterm and final). really nice guy overall easy gpa boost.he's eager to help and is interested in getting his students interested in his class.
He's a good guy and wants his students to understand the material and achieve. He could work on challenging the kids a little more-- there are too many videos. Furthermore he often cuts the lecture short and lets you go early more often than not. He is passionate about the material but avoids making value judgements.
Awesome professor, only two grades, midterm and final but lots of extra credit. Easy A. He shows funny videos to boost class morale. Posts powerpoints online. Really funny guy, good looking if you're into that kind of stuff O_o
Oh Brent! Hes a great prof. Really cares about his students. 3 grades: 2 mids and final. non comprehensive which is nice. He usually gives extra points on tests when we go over them and students argue that it was a bad question. Overall, he was great. Very easy on the eyes too ;)
Good prof. you will learn, but you MUST read, go to class and you'll do fine , very interesting discussions
very good prof. you don't need to read the book at all, just listen to the lecture and review the powerpoints and you will get an A. Tests are not cummulative. He is also very helpful. he gave his phone number to the whole class so you can call or text if you have questions. he shows funny videos in the beginning of every class.
Forgot to take this class as a freshman and had to take it as a senior. Incredibly straightforward. No online stuff. Posts notes on Blackboard (Learn). I only went on test days and studied the slides and have a solid B. An A would be easily achieved with a little bit more effort. Strongly recommend this guy.
AMAZING TEACHER! He is hilarious and keeps you engaged in his lectures. My favorite class so far! Highly recommend taking him, easy A!
This is the worst class Ive ever taken. I've taken 14 classes since I've been at UTSA and I've made all A's. I have a C in this class. He babbles on and on about nonsense that will not be on the test. We watched a movie for 3 classes prior to our first exam, 0 out of the 50 questions were related to the movie. He needs to stay at Northwest Vista
He is super nice and laid back... but that is also the problem. You never know exactly what is going to be on the test or what to study for. Instructions for assignments are not very clear either and the book for this class is a drag to get through. It should be an easy A, but you have to work for it.
Spends to much time starting debates in class and showing videos. Says lecture is important, but the tests are heavily from the textbook. The only way you'll get an A is to read that book cover to cover and then some.
Brent is a really cool professor. Unfortunately that doesn't make him a good one. Spends too much time on debates and videos. If you take his class you must read the book and teach yourself most concepts. If you don't mind that then take the class because he really is a nice guy
Have to agree with previous comments. Awesome guy, but I never really took anything from his lectures. You have to read the book to perform well on the exams. Class may be pointless, but he does make it enjoyable. I imagine he's a great person to get into a politics discussion with at a bar.
He is a really cool professor, I came to class everyday although you really don't have to. I never take notes and most of the time don't read. But I left with a C. Really cool guy, not much effort is required to pass. But if you want an A, you'll definitely have to do some outside reading of your own.
He is funny and passionate about the topic. For his honors class, your grade is based on 2 research papers and 3 exams. No assignments, attendance is not mandatory, and he cuts the lectures short. He gives you his personal phone number if need help. He does waste time trying to start arguments, however, and you need to STUDY for his detailed tests.
Brent was incredibly nice & bent over backwards to try to help his students succeed. He kept class very interesting (even if you hate Politics)! Easy online hw & easy essay. Two midterms & one final. All exams were multiple choice & the final wasn't comprehensive. Make sure you get the textbook as exam ?s come from lecture & book. Highly recommend!
Amazing teacher! He does a great job at explaining things. Tries his best to be available for any questions (he prefers texts or calls). Definitely the best teacher I've had in my three years of college. If only he taught other courses...
AVOID! Ive taken 14 classes at UTSA and made all A's except for my speech class and this class. I studied harder for this class than any other class that I've taken. I read the textbook, went to SI, even made a study group that met weekly. TESTS ARE SUPER HARD. None of the information we talk about in class has to do with the tests. nice but HARD!
Brent is such a nice guy! His lectures are interesting but reading the textbook is more important. If you read the textbook you shouldn't have any problems with the tests. Honestly it was a pretty easy A, but you have to put in some effort.
I don't like political science, but he made it fun and worth going to class. He isn't a cookie cutter teacher, he gives politics to us on a real level. He gave clear expectations on what we need for the exam, even though you do have to read the book. He is hands down, one of my favorite professors. We had in class discussions often.
Floyd in very entertaining and funny, however, he does not know how to teach. Read the book and you'll do fine on the class. Also, he makes a lot of mistakes on the exams. 3 exams in total, 2 MyPoliSciLab sets, and an essay, NO extra credit points!
Very funny teacher! make sure you read the book though! Thats where you get all the test questions!
Very nice, slow to reply to emails but if you ask him questions in class he's helpful. Textbook is definitely necessary to get good grades on exams
Useless teacher, easy class. Just read the power points and you should do fine. It's not necessary to come to class or read the book.
Floyd acts and teaches like he is still in college. He doesn't follow his power points and is fairly off topic. Brent's exams are directly from the book, you might as well not even go to class. There is no extra credit. The book is essential unless you already know politics. The final is non-cumulative. I will never take him again.
Brent is an amazing teacher, very nice and willing to do anything to help you. Definitely take him it will be worth it!!!
Brent's an awesome professor but, at some points a little hard to follow. But he will bend over backwards to help you!
Funniest teacher ive ever had and I'm not one to laugh easily. He's super cool. Hes the only 1hr and 15min class i've ever had where I could actually pay attention the entire time. I had this class at 8:30 and my teacher was really my motivation to go. Test wise arnt difficult if you pay attention and do the study guide. Pretty easy A :)
I took him for Texas Politics and Society, while the material in the class is very boring, he does an amazing job as a professor. He has a good sense of humor and overall the class is really easy. You need to pay attention and take notes during the lecture and I would suggest reading the book. The book is necessary for all online assignments.
He was an amazing professor! I recommend him all the time! The class was an hour and 15 mins and I could actually pay attention for most of the time. He likes to start off his classes with a funny youtube video. I would suggest you do all the homework, it always helps. I highly recommend him!
I took the TR classes (75mins), and they were usually just about done after 40-50 minutes, which I really appreciated. I am not good or that interested in politics, but I was able to focus and understand the lectures and material. Recommend him.
He's a good professor. We watched movies a lot, kind of like high school. His tests are pretty easy, a lot of common sense type of stuff. Going to class is important, taking notes isn't really. If that makes any sense.
Great teacher, go to his class you will learn and then you will succeed on his test. Literally my favorite class. Take him! Easy test if you come to class and its not a bad class, he is really entertaining!
Awesome guy, very funny and the class is extremely easy if you have a general knowledge of basic politics in Texas. Highly recommend him, hardly ever went to class and got an A
I was a student who knew little of Texas politics but Brent was extremely helpful. His lectures were clear and to the point. He uses examples to help you understand topics better. The book is important because the assignments come from the book online but its a very easy read. I would definitely recommend this professor.
Brent is the man!! Hands down coolest guy ever, makes you want to switch to being a pol major just so you can take his classes. So cool and funny, always starts class with a youtube video and if you ever have a question you can call or text him with a 99% of him answerng right back.. unless hes playing Call of Duty lol
You will easily pass this class with an A or B. If you just read the book which is an easy read and go to class you will pass. The test are straight forward and he curves every test. You do have online assignments that are based on your book which is also online and can be finished in a few days. I recommend this professor.
Funny guy, easy class
I love him as a prof., but tests are extremely difficult; don't take him. He's going to be my only B this semester, costing me my 4.0. He's an awesome dude, but I put so much effort into this class & I do not feel like I got the grade I deserve. He does go over the test after and allows you to fight for some of the answers & may give credit points!
Really cool teacher. Laid back, starts every class with a funny video. Slides are kinda boring but he's passionate about what he's teaching so it's not hard to pay attention. Tests are easy if you study. You can tell he really cares for his students. I plan to take him again!
Brent is great. I hate politics with a fiery passion and he made me actually enjoy the class. He will answer any questions and is very helpful. Very hilarious.
Good teacher. Funny. Doesn't post power points. You have to read the book. Not many tests. He will help you out with anything you need!
Brent is awesome and an extremely fun, passionate teacher. He is a very easy professor, but he uses examples from class lectures which hurt my grade so attendance is a must. Doesn't cover everything from book so you have to read the chapters to get above a B-.
Professor Floyd is cool but he jokes around too much. Take picture of the powerpoints because sometimes he changes it while you're still writing and he doesn't upload it. Find a study partner for this class. You have to read the book in order to get an A on the test. He doesn't give out study guides. You do a survey and write a research paper.
Brent is a phenomenal instructor. Jokes around a lot, keeps you listening, makes you watch funny videos, and really feels for his students. The class is still kinda tough if you're used to easy work, but made easier by Floyd. NOTE: He is BAD about giving grades back. Expect to be in the dark on your average unless you go see him.
Take this class. Do not think it's an easy A. You still have to read the textbook, but his lectures are not boring. Listen to his lectures and you should at least pass. Read the textbook too and you'll make an A. He's funny and entertaining. He makes the tests himself and he tells you what is going to be on it.
He is such a great person. He always walked in with such a big smile on his face, although class was like at 8:30 am. He loves to tell stories in order to incorporate it with the material. There is online quizzes which are not that hard.. They don't really help with tests that much though... Read the book!! It goes into more detail than the lecture
I'm not really into political science. I missed this class multiple times, but still passed! To be honest, his lectures DO NOT HELP (in my opinion) because he just reads off of PowerPoint Presentations and explains, but you MUST read the book in order to pass the exams! He's extremely funny and shows funny videos for morning classes!
Professor Floyd was great! Always wanting to hear our thoughts on events and issues, asked for questions in order to clarify tough concepts, and really interacted with students. Tests were pretty straight-forward from topics discussed in class. Funny lectures, always helpful. Wish I had him for my other history and politics courses!
He makes politics super interesting, but he only has like 5 grades. Meaning that tests literally make up 75% of your grade. He doesn't believe in extra credit. Basically have to read the whole book to pass the tests also... But like I said, he's cool and funny, so that's a plus. I wouldn't take him unless you want to read the book and study a lot.
I'm a Civil Engineering major, so politics has never had my interest. Brent not only kept me interested in lectures, with his jokes and personality, but I actually learned and retained content. I laughed more in the first lecture of the semester than I have during all my other lectures combined. He doesn't post notes, so go to class, it's not hard.
B grade. Would have been an easy A if not for two elements: 1. The ridiculous Q Survey Project that destroys your class grade. 2. Time needed to read the entire book (you will need to actually read it and not speed read it). He is a really cool guy, and his lectures are fun. He wants to set you up for success, so don't make that hard for him.
Yeah you need the book to do well in the class (they made us buy an online version in class, so wait up on buying yours just in case). Sometimes he gives a review for the test, sometimes not. He won't talk about his own political opinions much, so you'll feel comfortable whatever your political persuasion. Very funny lecturer.
I hate politics, but I LOVED this class. Brent is hilarious and his lectures are awesome. I looked forward to starting my morning off with this class. Study, read the chapters, and go to class. I would definitely take him again!
Great professor and an easy class
Floyd is quite a character. Very flamboyant and easy to listen to. Not your typical professor. Helpful with information and truly cares about his students. Pay attention in class and go through the book and you should be good. He gives a little bit of extra credit as well.
Brent is seriously the coolest prof ever. His class is very fun and entertaining. Going to his class is like watching a stand up comic but you learn about the government. Even though he's funny, I really learned a lot from him. Every one I talked to that took his class loved it. TAKE HIM BEFORE THERE'S NO MORE VACANCIES!!
I love Brent. He is fun, caring, and his lectures are amazing but they don't help as much as you'd hope on the exams. The only major way to pass his class is by reading the book! The class is based on 4-5 exams and a Q assignment that'll destroy you. Exams are hard if you don't take your time and read the assigned chapters from beginning-end.
Brent is a really fun professor and I enjoy his lectures, but I don't find them very helpful to passing the exams. He goes off on tangents often and barely covers what you NEED to know to pass the exams. But if you are not so interested in politics and looking for an enjoyable professor to get you through the course, this is the guy!
Not strong in Politics but this professor makes class interesting. If your not in class, you won't be able to have notes for the class. He does not put them online. His tests are pretty tough but gives students a chance to challenge him and will drop a few questions on a test. No homework. One written essay. If you do the minimum you can pass.
Awesome professor. Great lectures. Just read the book and you'll get a good grade.
He makes politics very interesting and easier to understand, however you must work for your grade in that class by reading the chapters and taking notes. He does badly word questions on the tests, and the answer choices are all almost similar and close. However he goes over the tests and allows students to challenge him for points back! Nice guy.
He is the best, every morning he puts a funny video to wake us up. Great lectures. Just read the book and you'll get a good grade
Look, he's a really cool guy, he's funny and is always telling jokes, but when it comes down to it, he's not the best at teaching. His powerpoints are NOTHING like the exams. You must read the book and pretty much teach yourself. Even at that, the exams are tough. Great guy, not a great professor.
Awesome professor! He def knows his stuff & he keeps class entertaining w/ his personality! There are only 4 tests & the final is NON-CUMULATIVE. His tests are SUPER easy. Don't need the book bc it comes online w/ Cengage (needed bc it's a Q-Course). If you go to class, you'll know what to study for the test, if not, then you have to read indep.
Floyd is honestly such an amazing professor. His test are tough, so you have to read the book thoroughly in order to do well on them. Even though I had him at 8 30 AM it was always easy to get up for his class and stay awake because of how interesting he made it. I wish there were more professors like him here at UTSA.
Brent is a great professor who is passionate about what he teaches. However, the discussion based class was conducted poorly. Instead of talking about the 50-100 page readings were assigned every week we basically just had debates about different peoples opinions.
Brent is a really cool dude! He's super laid back and makes concepts easier to understand with examples and scenarios that everyone can relate to! I always looked forward to his class because he always implemented his drug humor into our lectures! He only makes class hard by making you read the book, but that's because he only wants you to succeed.
Brent's hilarious. While you could get by not going to a single class, you'll want to be there every single time because of it. His test questions are also taken directly from his lecture, so just remember what he says. Classes are also cut short most of the time, so it won't kill you to go laugh and learn for a few minutes. He also genuinely cares
Brent is a fantastic person, but I don't think he's the best professor. I studied very hard and read and had a hard time passing the class. Also, the Q assignment was terrible.
Brent is a nice guy, I'll give him that. As a professor not so much, it is essential you go to class and read the book if you want a good grade. His powerpoint aren't the best and he'll skip over info on them, so its up to you to read it. The final was terrible bc we were told to study 6 chapters and only 1 was on it. I wouldn't take him again.
By far my favorite class at UTSA! Brent is so funny, but he gets off topic easily. His syllabus says he won't give out extra credit but we had 3 chances to earn it. There are only three tests and the final isn't cumulative, but you HAVE to read the book in order to pass
He doesn't relate to students effectively. He doesn't make himself available to students who are having problems with the content. His teaching style is not for everyone.
Brent is hilarious and awesome. He does notes straight out of the book and he tests over the notes pretty much. Beware of the Q-assignment; it's 15% of your grade and his TA is a harsh grader. Loved starting my day with Brent, he makes this class 10 times better. Texas Politics is a pretty dry subject but he actually makes it much better.
I personally did not like his teaching style because his lectures did not match the material on the tests. Even if you read and memorized the book, there's not guarantee you'll do well on the test. You don't even have to go to class cause it's not helpful at all. I do not recommend. (I'm not being lazy, I got all A's besides this class.)
Brent is an amazing speaker, his lectures are mostly fun and interesting because he cracks jokes the whole class. He is really easy to talk to but most of the exam's advice you will get is "Read the book". You will need to read a lot, it is essential for doing good in his class. Tests are REALLY CHALLENGING, it is not impossible to get an A though.
Floyd is so hilarious and knows his stuff. Attendance is not mandatory and if anything he just reviews the outline from the book, but the catch is that that outline is not posted on Blackboard, but if you read the book then you are guaranteed to pass. He only gives two mid-terms, one final, a few short quizzes online, and one q-assignment.
Professor Floyd seemed a little too cool to be a politics professor, he's always joking in class and doing his very best to make it fun for everyone. As far as his lectures go, he excels in not only making it interesting but getting info across. The only huge problem is communication, he and his TA are extremely hard to get a hold of after class.
Book is everything. It doesn't even bother me that I have to read because he has the best in class lectures (sometimes off topic). He is hilarious and cute. Tests are not detailed what so ever. He curves every exam. Q Assignment and an extra credit video assignment that takes 20 sec. Must read to pass, but Quizlets & reviews can help guide you!
Brent is an amazing professor. Truly cares for his students and really enjoys lecturing and making people laugh. One of the funniest and memorable professors I will have ever had. 2 Midterms and a final. 12 online quizzes. The Q Assignments are graded toughly by the TA. Also a video assignment. Otherwise, great class!
so great, I'm taking him again for another course. We only had 2 test plus a final which is non-cumulative. Anyone who didn't do well in this class simply did not try because all the test answers are straight from the book I got a 96 for this class, just by going to class and reading the focus areas in the book he gave us before each exam
If the class is a Q course then you can expect homework--other homework is virtually non-existent. Having a book won't hurt you but you don't need it--a cursory Google search of study guide items is sufficient and there is also a copy in the library reserves. Go to class, listen, copy the powerpoints or take notes on the films. Drops a quiz grade.
I had Floyd at 8:30-9:45 TR. He is one of the funniest professors I've had. He is clear and concise with his information. If you need his help, you'd have to make an appointment or visit during office hours. You're gonna have to read your heart out. Few tests, quizzes, and one essay with a survey. Don't just rely on ppts: reading is a must.
hes soooo funny! shows funny videos in class almost every meeting. he makes topics fun to talk about. his reviews are not exactly like the tests but he will let you know what to study for and what not to study for. takes attendance before and sometimes after for those who only come in for the attendance code and leave
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is hilarious and puts everything in a perspective thats super easy to understand. If you attend class you will pass! I am taking him again next semester!
His class lectures are boring and uninteresting. Half the semester he dismissed class after 30-50 minutes which was pretty nice, but going to class is important since he takes attendance every class maybe even twice in the class. Easy class just boring.
Brent is such an awesome, nice, and friendly guy. Even if you're in his 400+ person class, TALK TO HIM because he would bend over backwards to help anyone with anything they need. His honors class is very easy. Read the book, do review, and you're set for an A. Funny lectures, and he usually ended class early. I will 100% take him again if I can.
Brent is cool, but just because he's cool doesn't mean he's a good professor. If it weren't for the SI sessions, I wouldn't have passed, so go! All semester, exam grades were input incorrectly. The final semester grades were due three days ago, and he has yet to input grades. Take him with caution. I like him, but he's not a good professor.
Overall a great class. He goes over the chapters in class but you still need to read if you want to pass. He does lectures and videos. He's a really funny guy and overall great teacher. Go to class, read and you'll pass with an A.
Brent was awesome! I'm not a huge fan of politics and he made the class more than bearable. If you're an Honors student though, beware he makes you voluntary and write a paper. Just a fair warning. But he is so fun and funny too! Lectures are great and feel more like conversations than lectures. But all the material on the test is in the book.
Bro - take him. Trust me. He's engaging, interesting, and hits the solid points during the lecture. You ABSOLUTELY have to read the book chapters to get a more robust grasp on the context of his lectures, but it's an easy read.
The best professor for politics and lectures are great. Don't fall asleep in class and read the book (easy read) and you are set for an A. He makes class entertaining. Ideal summer class.
He's the best professor you could ever ask for.
Brent is a really nice and funny guy, but I did not really like his class. He gets off topic a lot and we barely covered any relevant material during class, which was annoying because who wants to spend their summer in a class talking about random stuff? Therefore in order to do well you really need to study the book
Takes attendance religiously and it's a good portion of your grade, so you have to go to class. He gives reviews and his tests are straight forward and easy. He also loves handing out curves on the exams. Honestly a super easy A
Super chill professor. Lets out early a lot and gets off topic pretty easy but who cares. He gives a study guide before the test literally in order of the questions so if you study that you will be fine.
I had this class 8:30 in the morning and I don't think I could have done it with another teacher. attendance is mandatory and test questions come from both class notes and the book which you will need. He really cares about and enjoys his job and you can tell during class. he's not ridiculously easy or difficult. If he was teaching a course a take in the future I would take him again in a heartbeat. if having a teacher who's passionate and cares about what they do, Brent's your guy.
TAKE HIM. Get the A and actually LEARN material. Best professor I've ever had.
Awesome professor. Very funny guy and makes a government class bearable. Only grades are tests and 10 easy online chapter quizzes. Does give easy extra credit. Pretty easy tests too.
Really good professor with funny personality that cares about students
This guy was funny but that doesn't make a good professor. He never responded to any emails! Impossible to get ahold of. His TA, Dagbo, was just as awful. He would make class seem like a breeze and then smack you in the head with a test with content that was NOT covered in class. Don't read the book or you will not pass. Don't recommend him at all.
Great guy, makes the otherwise boring lectures hilarious and interesting, and he makes the class fun and engaging. He knows what he's talking about, and is really open to answering questions in the middle of lectures. Going to class definitely wouldn't hurt, and his lectures are often much more informative than the text, anyway.
Very nice guy, sometimes funny.. Super easy class, as long as you read the chapters from the book you will get an A, the tests are based more off of the book than they are the lectures. Would definitely recommend for Texas Politics.
Brent is fun, but totally ADHD! His lectures are engaging. BEWARE-There are online quizzes you have to take that can be challenging! Take advantage of the extra credit opportunity! (If I had, I would have gotten an A instead of a B!) I took this class as a Junior because I dread Govt/Pol, but I am so glad I took it with Brent! It was actually fun!
Best lectures because he wants to relate to his students!! Just don't get carried away by the ease of the class!! Online quizzes are extremely difficult so be prepared!! 3 tests throughout the whole semester including the final so one bad grade on a test can hurt!! Attendance is recommended! It'll save your grade! and do the extra credit!!!
His lectures are fun but don't have a steady flow. The online quizzes are kinda difficult. When he gives you the test review, make sure you include everything on the topic because some questions on the are specific! Make sure you use the book to complete his reviews, and it can be beneficial to read it. If you can take him, you really should!!
Brent is probably the easiest professor at UTSA. The tests are usually about 20-30 questions. For the first test, he sent out a review and that was the test. So please take advantage of that. Before test days, go to class because he tells you what you need to study. Learnsmart quizzes. TOPHAT for attendance. Video assignment for 2 pts on average.
He was such a great professor. His lectures were understandable, although sometimes he would get off topic. All the homeworks were online, consisted of only 5 questions each. The homework would get difficult at times so I highly recommend reading the book. He only had 3 exams total but he does give a review. Attendance is mandatory!!
Brent is a great professor. Sometimes his lectures can get off topic but he always finds a way back. Attendance is mandatory and it for a grade. If there is anything you don't understand, after every class he will wait and have a talk with you. It is like every class in college, you get the grade you work for
You have to read the book to do well on the test. You get a participation grade but his lecture are a waste of time, in which he try's to hard to be funny and watch videos for the class. Which I would like if I learned something. He's a good guy, really cool but he loves his antics and spends most of class time watching funny videos.
Solid teacher and is a must take if you have the opportunity. Has a passion for teaching and a great sense of humor. PRO Gives reviews for the tests Genuinely wants to teach and is willing to answer questions Very knowledgeable CONS Attendance is mandatory Attendance is graded from top hat
TAKE BRENT. He offers up to 4pts on your average extra credit, has very engaging and interesting lectures (and funny), and gives a review for every test, which if you study the review, you'll get an A. We watched a few movies in class, and there were test questions over them. He's very caring/understanding. Attendance is 15%. 10/10 would recommend!
Professor Floyd, or Brent as he prefers is an extremely cool professor. He's very young and hip, and truly understands what students are going through. His assignments and test are not hard given that you pay attention and do your work. His lectures are funny and engaging. As long as you pay attention Brent is the guy for you
Brent is a good teacher. As long as you pay attention in class you will pass. He gives out reviews for the exams so you will be prepared for it.
Mr. Brent was awesome! his lectures are funny, insteresting, but also informative. He makes you think... he takes attendance every day, sometime more than once but curves the attendance grade st the end of the semester. If you do the reviews, tests are cake.
I disliked how Brent graded us, the grade depends on the tests and quizzes. The material was challenging for me however I did fine on my exams. Do the extra credit opportunities to ensure you can't possibly fall behind too far. His lectures get a bit annoying because of his weird humor, but it's fine. Read the book to comprehend all the material.
Brent is a cool guy, loves to make jokes and lectures are usually entertaining. His tests are somewhat hard and require lots of reading from the book. Brents downfall is in his test reviews, he does not give test reviews until two days before the actual test, which for most people like me, is hard. He is a cool guy and class is fun though.
Brent is literally the best professor ever. He is like a 20 y/o in a 40 y/o body. He is super chill, HILARIOUS, and probably the most laid back teacher ever. He gives you study guides, and there is no homework besides online quizzes that you have a ton of time to do. TAKE BRENT FOR YOUR CLASS YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!
Such a pain. We had to buy the code for attendance for $20 just to be told that he didn't know how it worked so to just take the L. Lectures have NOTHING to do with what's on the test. All quizzes are online, take notes yourself and make a study guide, and STUDY. Tests are kind of difficult. Also frequently cancels class 1-5 mins before.
Brent is super funny and tries to relate to his students. He does a good job engaging the students in his lecture. The downsides are that he does not post his lectures online and he doesn't cover most the test material in his lectures. The class is also heavily test based 90% grade from test with only one extra credit opportunity.
His lectures are awful, he is always on track and usually gets through 3 slides max per day which means the tests are extremely hard because barely anything on it is talked about in class. The only good part is that he cancels class alot.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN! HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!!! He never responds to emails and doesn't lecture. The tests are very hard because none of the material is from the lectures. Trust me when I say, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He may seem chill but he will ruin your life and your GPA.
DONT TAKE HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LAZY.
Professor Brent is a cool teacher but would NOT recommend that you take him. All he does is go over his powerpoints in class and his lectures dont help the test at all. There are only 2 test and a final which means you dont have a chance to screw up on the test. He also cancels class a lot even a class before a test day. DONT take this professor
It's true, most of his test are based on the textbook. Most of his test questions don't relate to his lectures 75% of the time. But if you read the chapters he assigns, and do the review you will PASS the test & class. He's was a very nice guy, and he does care about his students. It's your job to read the material; quiz questions are on tests.
He's really funny, and he always talks in a language of political science that college students can understand. His tests are based off of his textbook and he provides reviews so they were never that bad. His final exams also are not cumulative so that is a plus as well.
Brent is very laid back and easy going, funny personailty and likes to make class intresting. He usually makes his "lectures" on the way to class and has a title page on a napkin to present. He lets you leave class about 30 minutes early every time, and doesn' teach much of what you need to know. He talks for fun, and doesn't really benefit you.
I, along with many others in this class, learned nothing from taking the course. Brent hardly held classes longer than 30 minutes and had a slideshow with information thats actually useful on the test. Hes also incredibly slow grading. The only assignments all year were tests and quizzes. No class work. Brents funny, but not a great professor.
Brent is very chill. Attendance wasn't required but if you went you got some extra credit. He doesn't respond to emails so the only way to keep in contact is through office hours. He also doesn't put in grades till the end. He also doesn't have a specific way of calculating grades. It looks like guess work. You have to read to pass the test. Beware
He's a really funny guy but he's not the best professor. His lectures tend to be sloppy and he gets through them very slowly. And if you want to pass the exams you have to read the textbook mainly, only a few topics mentioned in lecture show up on the test. He also replies to emails very slowly.
Brent's class was enjoyable lecture-wise. He's super funny and very passionate about politics. However, his assignments do not match up with his class lectures. You have to really study for the exams and not just what is on the review. The quizzes are tricky and count for a lot. If you do take this course YOU HAVE TO STUDY.
My biggest problem with this class is the lack of organization. It makes getting an A very difficult and near impossible. He's a great person, easy to talk to, super funny! If you're taking this class, some advice, memorize everything in the books chapters you will be tested on NOT just the study guide and do EVERY SINGLE EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT!
Professor Brent gives amazing lectures. He is a laid back professor who is really engaging and funny. The text book readings are vital to pass his tests and his test guides are very helpful. Although, his grading criteria was confusing.
Brent is great and very entertaining. I stopped going to class mid semester and still got an A-. Test questions can be a little challenging, but theres some Quizlets for his class online. Just look them up study right before and you should be golden. He has one extra credit opportunity. The online quizzes aren't hard just very few questions.
No too much hw but lots of lectures. At first he answered emails but at the end of the semester he didnt. He had an example of how to calculate your grade but not how to add the ec. I never found out what my final was, it was just a letter grade. His teaching assistant was no help either.
Cons: He goes off course a lot because he starts making jokes and gets too into it. Last semester he didnt finish putting in my grades so I stayed with a D all because he forgot. His lectures arent consistent with whats on the test. Late reviews 2 days before exam. ALOT of writing to summarize chapters. Doesnt use canvas. Pro: Hes funny.
NEVER TAKE HIM. He's so unorganized and rude! Its hard to know what to study for when he doesn't even give good lectures...
He's a cool guy, but his course was a bit disorganized. He's kinda easily sidetracked, so he jumps around when lecturing. He expects that you read all the chapters, so if you want to do alright you need to read the book. The lectures are in addition to reading, not instead of, so you can expect questions from both on tests. Good for non-PolSci folk
He couldnt care less and cant even take attendance properly. His lectures are not helpful at all and he expect you to read everything in the book. He jokes a lot but it is to the point that he isnt professional and its such a chore to get him outside class.
Lectures mostly have nothing to do with the test. STUDY THE TEXTBOOK TO GET AN A. All tests come from the book, you will basically have to teach all the material to yourself. Do not take him.
He's so chill, you can call him by his first name. Funny and laid back but still teaches the class effectively. If he's tardy to class, he'll give extra credit points on a test. And sometimes, he'll even give extra credit for just showing up to class. His quizzes are online and timed. And his tests aren't that hard if you study and pay attention.
So here is the Skinny on Brent, the class is super easy, the tests can be found on quizlet, if he gives you a review sheet, just quizlet it, his final is on quizlet. Read the chapters, you can get away with skipping class all semester, just read the assigned chapters, You can get an A with minimal effort. Plus side, he is funny.
Brent takes forever to grade, rambles, and gets off topic in his lectures, and makes confusing tests. Class is usually pointless to attend except for days where not many people go, because he gives extra credit on days where class is empty. Study sessions will get you an A or B and reading the textbook the week before an exam will help you a lot.
The reviews are on quizlet! Class isn't mandatory and is often times pointless, but Brent does sometimes give out extra credit for attending so go. Do the extra credit opportunities when available
I had a 96 in the class all semester and because of the way his grading is weighted, I ended up with a B. Three tests is basically all that determines your grade and some of the questions on his tests are extremely contradicting.
Prof. Floyd's class was enjoyable and interesting. His lectures do stray a little bit away from the textbook/slide shows but only to try to help us college students understand. He is pretty funny and makes the class laugh a lot with his sarcasm and jokes. He assigns two exams and one final. STUDY/BUY THE TEXTBOOK IT IS A MUST TO HAVE AT LEAST A B..
He made politics class entertaining to non-majors and weaved in funny anecdotes to keep the 8:30 class engaged. Attendance was not mandatory per se, but as the semester progressed extra credit attendance sheets were often handed out. Textbook was necessary for online quizzes, but most key info for tests was given during lecture.
Brent (he has us call him by his first name) was a super cool guy. I don't think he even knew my name and he acted like we were best friends. He is very kind and also tells stories every class. I hardly used the textbook but it is recommended. Class is easy if you do what you need to. Don't have to show up but I highly recommend it.
He's super cool and funny, but he has trouble focusing on the content. He gets distracted very easily and that can cost some lecture time. Other than that he is a really cool, chill, down to earth dude.
Brent is a great guy. He teaches the material, but knows it's a required course, and most people are there because they have to be. Keeps class interesting with funny stories, relevant videos, and memes. I bought the book, but only glanced at it. It was an easy A, but I also went to every class and took notes diligently. Learned a lot about TX pol.
Probably the best professor Ive ever had, amazing teacher who is truly passionate about his work. And get ready to laugh one of the funniest people Ive ever been around. Show up to class its worth it. Gives lots of extra credit opportunity.
Brent is a solid dude. He jokes non-stop, but usually gets through his lecture info. If not, it's all pretty easy stuff. Just study the book, if you have it, or quizlet for the tests. He likes to give out extra credit when attendance is low, so make sure to be there if you need it. Also, watch the movies, they end up on the tests.
Super informal guy with a great sense of humor. Since he's an Honors professor he can generally rely on the students to do their own work. He gets distracted easily so lectures can be uninformative but if you read the assigned material you will learn everything you need.
Graded based mostly on participation, one group project (in pairs), and one essay. Class is mostly just discussion of the assigned book or articles. He would cut class early a lot because we looked sad, haha. Lot's of discourse and political talk (between students); he's overall really chill and understanding.
Theres only two assignments all semester & the rest of your grade comes from attendance & participation. Very lowkey class and a super chill professor, but he can be kinda all over the place so sometimes his requirements are a little unclear. Overall a cool dude and fun class but be prepared for a very loose schedule and curriculum.
I took this class in Spring 2021 and it was super easy and laid back. While mostly discussion based, we did have one group project with a partner and an essay we had to write. Just make sure to read the required materials and have something to discuss in class. The schedule and structure is super flexible.
