Never had him as a teacher but he's the best trainer F&G ever had! Has to be an awesome teacher. I would recommend taking him because you'll enjoy learning from him and he's such a great guy!!

GREAT teacher! Very passionate about his topic, and makes class interesting. Spices up speech topics instead of boring usual ones. You'll learn a lot, the midterms are take home, and he LOVES props and cheeziness will win him over! hehe, he's so fun, you are guarnteed a fun class!

Highly recommended if you are looking for an easy speech class. He is pretty laid back about giving speeches and is big on brownie points

Mr. Goken was the funnest teacher I have ever had at ICC. I would take another Communications class just so I could be in his presents. Everyone who is taking Comm 110 should take Goken because you are guarenteed an A!

Brent Goken was the best speech teacher you could ask for!! I HATE public speaking and I got an A. You only have 3 indiv. speeches and 1 group. His lectures are interesting and he is really fun. He cares about his students and grades very fairly. Also, you get brownie points for volunteering to go first. WONDERFUL speech teacher!!

He is a very easy going guy. It is necessary to attend however, so make sure you do. You only have three speeches to give and they go fairly easy. Then you have one group speech. When you take COMM, I highly recommend him, he may be a little goofy, but it's kinda fun. And he'll make you more comfortable with speeches.

Very easy class. Mr. Goken takes an active interest in his students. I was scared stiff to take this class, as most students are, he made it very fun and relaxing. He provides wonderful feedback so you can improve your performance. It made this class fun.

AWESOME MINIMESTER!! So much fun during the 11 days. He expects you there on time and to LISTEN which is ACTIVE, LOL. If you are nervous he really helps take that away. Great class and speechs, excellent teacher.

Be creative and have fun with your speeches! If you are quick to volunteer first to give your speech, he will give brownie points!

Took this as a minimester and was so glad I did. I despise giving speeches and he totally made it a breeze for me. Follow his instruction, show up for class, (on time, no less), and you'll have an A with no problem! Oh, by the way, he hates cell phones! LOL!

Took this class fall semester '09! Loved it! His personal experience in the PR world made everything very interesting. I learned a lot in this class, and it was definitely my favorite class of the semester. Just because I know he will read and appreciate this...HE HATES CELL PHONES! :)

PR and Social Networking was a very beneficial class. Brent Goken is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is very passionate about what he does and it shows through in his teaching. He cares about each of his students. I walk away from his classes feeling like I actually learned something important. :)

Well, what can I say. This is a communications class. This guy is very passionate about communicating. His overall approach to communications will help take someone who is uncomfortable about speaking and turn him/her into someone who is comfortable to get in front of a group. He is very crystal clear about what he wants. Take Mr. Goken for Comm!!!

Took his 4wk Summer Comm 110 class and it was totally worth it!! IT WAS AWESOME!! 4 speeches, two tests, a fun, upbeat teacher - what more could you aks for in Comm 110? TAKE THIS CLASS!!! You will love it!

Prof. Goken is a GREAT teacher!!!! I have to say I was extremely nervous about taking this class, but Prof. Goken made Comm fun. He always had a smile on his face and he was willing to help his students. He graded fair on the speeches and always gave tons of extra credit. His test were pretty easy, he gave a study guide. Mr. Goken is a great teacher for a class most people dread taking. He eases you into speeches, and is very helpful with your outlines or speech ideas. Only downside is he has 4 speeches, one of which is a group speech and involves more time outside class than a gen ed should. However, he is nice, funny, and grades fairly. Recommended.

He is a brilliant teacher! So excited to take his PR class. He's also very supportive of his students to the point he attended a musical I was in. I love when teachers actually care about their students. He always made my day better!

Hands-down the best professor I have ever had. After taking 110 with him, my major went from Accounting to Communications. LOVE his teaching methods, and as someone else said, he takes an interest in his students. Not like any professor you've ever known! I also ended up taking 4 classes with him and did an internship. Inspiring!

Great instructor. Sets a tone of respect and encouragement by all on the first day which helps relieve the anxiety so you can focus on learning and practicing. He is inspirational and really teaches. You must show up for class and support your peers. Two tests and four speeches, one of the speeches is a group project. He makes it easy to learn.

I took speech 110 from Mr Goken. It was a blast! I would recommend him.

Just finished taking him for Comm. 110 and LOVED it! There are no tests or quizzes, just 4 speeches, a midterm, and a final, (He gives study guides for those). He made class SOOO fun and interesting. He doesn't grade easy for speeches though, so have to prepare very well for them, you can't just wing it. Highly Recommend!

Great professor. Very helpful, provides excellent feedback. 4 speeches, midterm&final. One was a group speech. Tests were difficult, don't trust his review sheets, because there is more on the test than what was on the sheet. Work hard, follow his instructions, take note of feedback for next speech & you will do great!

Our class consisted of three speeches and a group speech. We also had a midterm and a final exam. The midterm was easy the final was a little tougher. It included some things that weren't on the study guide. Overall, he is a great teacher. He makes the class fun. I would recommend him. I had a lot of fun in his class.

Professor Goken is an awesome Teacher! He works really well with you if you are in the military and need to miss class for certain military situations!

Mr. Goken is a fantastic teacher! If you have any questions, he'll take the time to help you understand the assignment. I corresponded with him via email while working on a Press Release and he gave wonderful feedback and suggestions. I would definitely reccomend!

The best college professor ever. He has a really funny and outgoing personality which makes class fun. He also makes you comfortable with giving speeches in front of the class. Take notes and you should get an A on all speeches. Also, the last group project was really fun!

Best instructor I've had so far at ICC. He has an amazing personality and makes class very enjoyable. He really encourages and supports his students to be better public speakers. I even signed up for his COMM 222 class next semester.

I hate speaking in front of people, but he actually made this class tolerable, gives very encouraging feed back and wants you to succeed. Do the best you can and show up for each speech and lecture.

I heard he was good and he didn't assign many speeches. We did 4 speeches total, one being a group speech, the longest solo speech being 6-8 minutes. Makes you really comfortable with giving speeches by the end of the semester & offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. Be prepared on the day of your speech

Reader's Theater was by far my best experience so far at ICC. It was the most wonderful thing I have ever participated in.

As the class progresses, he makes it super comfortable for students and quells a lot of speech fears. Encouraging and positive, wants students to succeed. Glad I took him for speech. Made speech less of a daunting experience, and more of a welcoming, accepting environment. Showed that speeches can be easy and accessible, not something intimidating.

He was a fantastic professor, gives great feedback, and is so clear about his expectations! I took him a second time just so I could work with him again. He also genuinely cares about and invests in his students lives.

Best professor at ICC by far! Does not grade easily on speeches but offers plenty of extra credit to make up for it. Take Goken!!

Mandatory class. Good instructor, very good lectures. Grading is pretty straightforward: show up, participate, and most of all take care of the group project and work at it. It's the big grade. Test scores are based on going over the study packets and reading the book.

Great Professor. Work load is not excessive by any means. I had 3 individual speeches, 1 group speech, a midterm and a final. He definitely wants you to succeed and will help you as much as he can. He also gives excellent directions and feedback. I didn't leave after getting a speech grade not understanding what I missed and why I missed it.

Prof. Goken is who you want for communications!!! I HATE public speaking and I couldn't picture having any other professor that would be as amazing as he is! He is hilarious and VERY caring. He is also SUPER military friendly. Pay attention, participate, and follow his criteria and you have an A.

I am currently in Professor Goken's Communications 110 class. Regardless of the grade that I receive, I would rate him as the best! He is easy to get along with, knowledgable, kind, empathetic, and so so fun! I was dreading a class that requires speeches, and put it off for a long time, but it's quickly become my favorite class ever!

Going into this class I was TERRIFIED about having to give speeches in front of my peers, but after taking this course with Mr. Goken I truly have become more comfortable with it. Hes a great professor and he gives great advice, also very approachable. His notes are very clear and easy to follow. LOVED HIM.

This class was great. Goken is a great professor whos very approachable and kind. We had quite a few group projects that were really fun, he also gives great feedback and truly wants you to succeed. He says attendance is mandatory, but half the time doesnt take it. Also very rarely used the book! Some lectures were a little boring.

Wonderful teacher always kept me focused and never felt like school. Made tons of new friends in this class and was a wonderful teacher!

Prof. Goken was actually one of the best professors I have had in terms of feedback. I had him for Communication 110 and took it as a summer course. His feedback was specific and relevant to each speech. He was quick to respond to emails and instructions were pretty clear. He did offer an opportunity for extra credit!

I really enjoyed this course. Professor Goken gives great feedback on what you can improve on for the next speech. There were only 4 speeches I believe and they were pretty easy to understand the criteria. I hate giving speeches but the speeches for this course are recorded and uploaded, completely stress free.

It's obvious that Professor Goken cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He's an easy grader and he lets you pick your speech topics as long as they fit the guidelines. However, instructions aren't always clear, but he'll explain things further if needed. Regardless, he's a great professor and I would take his COM110 class again.

Professor Goken was a fantastic professor who was always willing to help in any way you needed. I've never really been good at public speaking, but after taking his class, he provided helpful notes and tips on how to overcome this fear and how to become a better speaker overall. I would highly recommend taking this course with him.

There are certain people that are just made to teach and Prof. Goken is one of them. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He offers extra credit and his lectures are involved and not boring. I took his night class and it was long but I was engaged for a very good part of the class.

I was pretty anxious about this class, but he made it a very comfortable experience. There's only three speeches and you genuinely improve with each one. Everyone in the class becomes very friendly and relaxed just because of the environment he sets up. I actually really enjoyed watching people's speeches. Highly recommend.

Professor Goken is an awesome professor! I liked this class! All this class is 4 projects, online midterm and online final. I liked the projects we did, my favorite one is the event planning proposal because you get to make your own event. He gives really good feedback on the projects. Lectures were a little boring but simple.
