He's maybe one of the best teachers at UT- Austin. Makes Orgo understandable.
he'll actually teach you organic chemistry, he made me love it!!! and the underwater slides he shows you are awesome...
BRENT IVERSON IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!!! ORGANIC CHEMISTRY IS NOTHING WITHOUT BRENT IVERSON!!!
iverson is easily the best teacher i've ever had. i came away actually enjoying the subject.
Iverson is an absolutely amazing professor. You have to take his class if you get the chance. Ochem is difficult, but the homeworks and TA recitation sessions really help clarify the material. Tests are very fair, and if you've done the homeworks and put forth some effort, you'll do great!
He sings for us on the last class day!
If you have the chance to take Organic Chemistry with Dr. Iverson, take it!! He really makes it easy, believe it or not, to understand. The exams are fair and his class is just plain interesting. He takes this class above and beyond any learning experience you have ever had!
Best Teacher ever!!!
Amazing! O Chem is awesome because of Dr. Iverson. I actually look forward to my MWF classes because of this class!
He is so amazing take him if possible. O Chem is hard but he makes it fun!
Iverson is a god! I've always hated Chemistry but he makes it interesting. He's fun and keeps you engaged. There's no way you can fall asleep. Plus he tells us stories & sings for us. And he's very inspiring. Tests are straight forward. Go to class, keep up with your work, and getting an A in the class won't be hard. SOOO glad I took him!!
GREAT PROF!!! He rele knows how to teach and he gives u all the tools u need to do well in his class. He presents the material rele well and really cares that his students understand it. He knows that ochem is hard and tries to make it as simple as possible. I took 310M n am taking 310N w/ him and both have been my favorite classes each semester!
Dr. Iverson makes the class entertaining and material relevant. He provides past tests, which are great practice. Organic chemistry can be challenging, but if you keep up with the material and practice a lot, you'll do well.
Had him for CH310M and N. By far, without a doubt, THE best instructor I have ever had in my life. There's a reason the entire university knows his name.
By far THE best professor I've ever had. He really knows the material and teaches extremely well. Very clear on all the assignments. DO THE WEEKLY HOMEWORKS AND THE BOOK PROBLEMS! This will almost guarantee you a high grade!
He turned a difficult course into my favorite class of the semester. He is very patience and approachable. He'll do whatever it takes to get a student to understand the material. He makes his lectures clear and concise. Go to class and do the his hw and ochem will be easy.
The most AMAZING Professor I have ever gotten. He's so great that I don't think i'll ever meet another professor or anyone else like him again.
The best professor I have ever had. One of the nicest people you will ever meet!
Dr. Iverson is the best professor you will ever take. This class is hard, but he will make you love organic chemistry. Hands down the most amazing man you will ever meet. I will really miss this class.
It isn't often you come across an individual, let alone a professor, as genuine and inspirational as Dr. Iverson. He's the image of what every educator should strive for. Only downside to taking his class is that he'll set a the bar high for what a professor should be, and you'll be disappointed with just about any other professor down the road.
Dr. Iverson, if you read this. You made me love a class I once used to hate. I was having anxiety over Ochem, but you changed that. Thank you for being there for your students, thank you for caring.
Dr. Iverson made ochem II very interesting. The rumors are true, he is one of the best professors on all of campus. I didn't do so great in ochem I but I participated way more and "caught the wave." (You'll know what that means). He posts his old exams, which are great practice. Going over notes and going to problem solving help a lot!
If you have to take Ochem, take this professor. I have never been more satisfied with a class. Iverson's interest in his students is unmatched by any professor I have taken thus far. That is not say this class was an easy A. He uploads practice tests from 2006 and on which helped tremendously. I went from a C+ first semester to an A. Take Iverson!
Dr. Iverson is the best! He taught organic chemistry very well and he is able to make it doable and deliver it well! He's very clear, provides excellent foundations and fundamental basics for you so that you can combat complex problems. Provide old tests that you can practice and encourage you to ask questions and participate. Lectures clear + good
Great teacher. Would take his class again.
Dr. Iverson is the best professor I've had at UT! He truly wants you to do well in his class. Ochem 2 is not an easy class, but he made it my favorite. If you go over class notes and his old exams that he posts, you will do fine on the tests. Love him!
Unpopular opinion: Iverson is overrated. He talks about running, fish, and plays his trumpet. Everything is always a "time capsule." He has dad humor and is the definition of doing the most. But, he's not a bad teacher, is super passionate about organic chemistry, and provides you with excessive amount of supplemental help.
He is too hyped up. Many undergrads will defend his teaching style because it is relatively easy to reproduce answers on a test rather than actually understand the organic chemistry that is going on. He is great for premeds that are looking for an relatively easy A in orgo2. lots of supplemental help as well. Overall, nothing special.
Iverson was great but everyone overrates him. He provides countless resources to succeed and do well in the class, however theres so much that at times it makes the material more confusing. His lectures are amazing, but at times a waste of time and annoying. His test seemed harder then all the previous practice exams he posted. Overall great!
I liked having Iverson for ochem 2. His lectures are always clear and entertaining. You won't even have to crack open the book if you pay attention in class. However, he does seem to spend a significant amount of time discussing topics unrelated to ochem, and at a certain point in the semester I found myself thinking "really, more fish??"
Dr. Iverson is hands down one of my favorite professors I've had so far. He cares a lot about his students and provides so many opportunities for you to get help to understand the material. I went to all of his office hours and thought they were very helpful. His lectures are funny, and his homework is very similar to how tests are formatted.
Dr. Iverson is absolutely phenomenal. Take his class!! Ochem 2 can be hard at times but he makes so much effort to break and down and easy to understand. He literally gives you so many resources to succeed. On top of that, he genuinely cares about each and every one of his students and tries super hard to make lectures entertaining! Love him!
Dr. Iverson is hands down my favorite professor so far! His lectures are so interesting and his exams are very representative of the homework he assigns. He gives 3 exams (the lowest of the 3 exams is dropped) and a final. He gave me a newfound appreciation for O Chem!! Seriously, take him!!! He is as great as everyone says he is!!!
I don't have enough space on here to say all the amazing things this professor is, but this is definitely going to be the class I miss once I graduate. I didn't just laugh all the time in his class, but I definitely learned more than I ever expected to learn in an organic chemistry class. Bless UT for this amazing person.
If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Iverson's class, do it. Don't even question it. Just take his class, you'll learn so much & have a great time. He genuinely cares about you and gives you all the resources you need to be successful at Ochem.
Dr. Iverson is the BEST professor I've ever had. I absolutely loved going to lectures and I he made me like organic chemistry even though I sucked at it. He's great and if you just keep trying you will understand it if you just keep doing what he tells you. It took me a long time to understand the material but his class is so worth it. TAKE IT.
I actually didn't finish his class. I had to drop it due to non-academic health reasons, but HE was the professor that made me love science, especially biochemistry, all over again. I'm going to do the research I want to do now because he's inspired me so much, but in the end his class wasn't required anymore. Take him. You won't regret it. GOAT.
He is the first professor I've met who loves his job. 3 exams (1 dropped) and a final. The homework are extra credit so do them!!! Look over the rules of the day (T/F & fill in the blank come from those). Go to the Problem Solving sessions. And study with friends! For the final & (exams), study the past finals & (exams) & corresponding hws.
Iverson truly loves teaching and his job, and it definitely shows in the way he runs his class. There are 3 exams, and 1 is dropped, plus a final. The homework counts as EC, so do them! Go to class if you can, it really helps. Also study with friends, it'll make life a lot easier. Use old finals he gives you to study and you'll do great!
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Dr. Iverson is such an amazing person, his lectures are always entertaining and he is genuinely passionate about his job. Ochem is a really hard subject but he makes sure you really learn it. I absolutely loved him. He created his own website with lots of helpful resources! I definitely recommend him! He's the best!!
Best professor ever, by far. He makes the subject as interesting as he possibly can and office hours are available basically everyday with live online office hours. Everything is recorded in case you had trouble understanding something. Take him. I wish he could've taken him for first semester of organic.
Iverson is one of the best professors i've ever had. He cares soooo much. you can really tell that he wants you to do well in his class. has office hours almost everyday. subject material is very difficult but that's to be expected. overall, i love this man and if you have the chance to take him, it'd be a huge mistake not to!!!!!
O-chem is not an easy subject to make enjoyable and he did it. BEST professor ever! So funny and so knowledgeable! 3 exams and 1 gets dropped + final exam. He also gives homework packets that are optional, but they are extra credit on the exams if you complete them, so I would do them! He also has SO many opportunities for help outside class!
If you are going to take organic chemistry, you HAVE to take it with Dr. Iverson. He's such an inspirational lecturer who will go the extra mile to make sure you understand all the concepts that he teaches. His lectures are entertaining and kept me engaged throughout the course. He makes you work for the grade, but it is all worth it in the end.
Dr. Iverson is the best professor I've had at UT! He records his lectures, but I highly recommend going to class because the vibes he gives off are great and he's an amazing lecturer. He has old exams posted which help a lot when it comes to studying for exams. His tests are a challenge, but definitely doable. He is the best ochem professor.
Great lecturer, really cares about his students. You will come out of this class really understanding the material. He provides with tons of resources in order to succeed in his class
Dr. Iverson is without a doubt the best professor that I have had here at UT. He is funny and will bring in speakers. He is a huge believer in running and will give extra credit if the class does a fun run. records and posts all his lectures online. Its still Ochem so be prepared to work but with Dr. I you'll be ok. Truly an amazing professor
Believe all the hype that has already been posted here. If you see Iversons name pop up on the registration site and youre due to take organic chemistry, then you need to move your schedule around in order to take his class. After two semesters of inorganic hell, Dr. Iversons teaching got me to fall in love with chemistry all over again.
If you are between Iverson and Shabbir, but Shabbir fits better in your schedule, then change your entire schedule, switch your major if you have to so that you can fit this man's class in your schedule. People always talk about how great Iverson is, AND IT IS TRUE! This man is truly extraterrestrial.
Iverson is AMAZING. People always look forward to his lectures- he knows how to explain the same topic in a million different ways so every kind of student will understand. He works tirelessly to make sure every student has the opportunity to do extremely well in his class, and the head TA (Chris) is great too. You will love this class!!!!
All the comments are right. Man's a legend. Teaches from handwritten notes. Short quizzes every class based on textbook readings. Homework is really helpful. A great professor, but ochem is tricky naturally.
Whenever someone asked me who I had for organic chemistry and I said Iverson, they gasped like I'd said I had a literal angel. Iverson is the greatest and you're super lucky if you manage to get ochem with him. Go to office hours! They're so helpful! Pretty much everything on his website is, it's a goldmine. He records every lecture as well
He was a really awesome OCH1 professor. Really cared about the material as well as the general well being of his students. The course was challenging, but you really will learn in his classroom. Thanks Dr. Iverson
MUST TAKE HIS CLASS! You'll not only acquire more than enough knowledge to tackle subsequent UT courses (& MCAT) but he also imbues his class w/ wholesome lessons in life. In brief, Dr. Iverson is a prof who enjoys pointing out how smoothly he segues from one topic to the next, providing his class with "time capsules," & advocating to run run run!
The best professor I have ever had. That is all I have to say.
Iverson was a great professor! He genuinely cared about his students and his method of teaching really worked for me. Probably the best professor I've ever had at UT. Take him for ochem 1, if you can! I wish he taught ochem 2 the following semester
He explains the concepts really well, has visuals for everything, and uploads every lecture online. The tests are difficult but this is ochem so idk what you expect. He does his best to help you tho! His website has tons of online resources - past exams, recorded lectures and office hours, etc. - and he drops the lowest exam score. 10/10 professor!
best professor I have ever had at this school. he really cares about you understanding the material and gives you an abundance of resources on his website to pass the class. smartest man on this campus
Unpopular opinion: Iverson is overrated. He seems like a great person and genuinely cares about the students, but he overwhelms students with too many resources and things to do. It's excessive. Lots of deviations in lecture to irrelevant topics. Tests are long (3hours) and late at night. Overall, just an average professor.
Believe the hype-- Dr. Iverson is an awesome professor! However, it is very important to note that while he is a stellar teacher, ochem is an inevitably difficult class. This class is conceptually hard to understand, and it does require a lot of work to do well. You learn so much that it makes up for it, though! Love this class!
Prof Iverson was amazing. He did everything he could to help us do well in Ochem. There was a lot of resources that he gave, and a lot of office hours, problem solving sessions, and past exams posted for us to do. Iverson is amazing, but Ochem was hard in itself. A lot of work was put in this class to get an A, but it's definitely doable.
The hype is 100% true! Iverson is the best professor I've ever had. Engaging lectures, clear explanations, and tons of resources (old tests, hws, and mechanism sheets). Don't think I would have loved/understood ochem nearly as much if it wasnt for him. Just wish he also taught ochem 2! (tip: dont buy the molecular model kit he recommends)
Everything people have written here about Dr. Iverson is true - he is the most inspirational, wholesome, funny, caring, and whatever positive adjective you want to insert professor you'll have. Organic chemistry isn't easy, but you'll learn a lot more than chemistry in his class. Register quick if you want him though, his class fills up fast!
Iverson is an incredible professor. He makes learning organic chemistry fun! I would try your hardest to get him. Graded primarily on tests the cover literally everything you were taught but you get one drop.
A great professor! Such an honor to listen to Dr. Iverson. He is so smart and cares about the well-being of his students. He records all lectures no instapoll, but he makes going to class fun. Ochem is a hard subject that you have to work to understand, but Dr. Iverson makes the class interesting. Tests are difficult but not impossible.
Fall 2018.3 curved midterms with a drop, one final, homework and quizzes which are weighted lower. Be prepared to read the textbook, practice the material off the notes packets, and do the homework if you want guaranteed success. At least 6-8 hours of work per week on this class. However, excellent Ochem foundation and Dr. Iverson is very engaging.
Simply put, I never thought I would like ochem as much as I did! Dr. Iverson is extremely kind, approachable, and encouraging. I've never had a professor work so hard for his students He always stayed late for all of his reviews to answer everyone's questions and understands most students are pre-med and accommodates to that! I love Brent :)
Dr. Iverson is by far the most amazing professor I've had at UT period. Not to mention that Organic is already super difficult, Dr. Iverson makes it a class that is definitely doable while inspiring you to push yourself in other ways. He genuinely cares about his students and I can feel his support even through the Covid Pandemic. 10/10 professor
By far the best professor at UT!! Dr. Iverson cares so much about his students and it really shows. OCHEM is hard no matter what but he does all that he can to make it as fun as possible. Daily quizzes, weekly HW, 3 midterms, and a final. He provides so many resources for his students and is honestly so funny and makes his lectures interesting.
You are LUCKY if you have the chance to take him. I was so scared to take Ochem bc I'm an average student and I loved his class and he is hands down my fav prof. He is super accessible outside class despite corona. He goes above and beyond to help you learn and keep you interested in lecture. He also provides a ton helpful materials and practices.
Best professor I've ever had. Makes learning fun. Class is hard but he makes it doable. Take if you can. 10/10
Dr. Iverson is the best professor I've ever had. He takes a personal interest in your success and he was also very accommodating with the pandemic. His lectures are absolutely incredible and always engaging. That said, it is ochem. You will have to work really hard for the grade you want, but Dr. Iverson does his best to help you out.
Loved him. I took him during the corona semester of Fall 2020. OChem is tough, but he makes it doable. Don't need the textbook but it helps. Make sure to do old. practice tests as those resemble the real thing and look at the rules of the day resources. Do physical synthesis practice problems before Exam 3 and final. Rewatch lectures before tests.
Don't buy the textbook. Iverson is a great professor with fair, but difficult, tests. Do not get behind no matter what you do and take advantage of all of the resources available! The final is worth a lot and no matter what, he'll make you take a test at the exact day/time it's set for (maybe with a time extension) or use it as your drop.
Literally the best professor at UT!
He makes Ochem so fun and interesting to learn. He is also very very passionate about the subject so he will tell a lot of interesting stories or facts during class. He loves and cares about his students too!
All I have to say is that Iverson was the best professor I have ever had, and he is an OChem prof. His TAs are also amazing, and he gives so many opportunities to talk to him and learn. Please take him
Genuinely the best professor I have ever had in my life. If you have the chance to take this class, take it immediately. He is kind and listens to his students and somehow packages Ochem into an interesting format (which is not any easy thing to do). Please take this course, he is amazing
Amazing professor! Just make sure to study your mechanisms and read the book. Practice problems are essential!! Also, make sure you take and do well on as many practice exams as you can!! Have a great time. He is truly amazing and cares about you.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING !! His classes are always the first ones to fill up - and his amazing lectures explains that a lot. He truly cares about his students and makes ochem a breeze. He is promoted now so he doesn't teach ochem anymore, but if he comes back definitely try to sign up !
Dr. Iverson is THE Organic Chemistry prof. He is amazing, him and his TAs have office hours everyday of the week to ensure you understand the material. He records everything, all the time so you don't need to worry about missing anything. There are tons of practice he gives so there's no reason for you to be lost. 10/10 if you can get him, do it.
Iverson was born to teach. He makes ochem extremely approachable but also recognizes what a hard class it is. You MUST go to lectures and sometimes even rewatch them a few times. He gives so many resources to practice and has great TAs. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS! YOU CAN DO WELL IN OCHEM!! He is a great lecturer and his test averages are pretty high.
Hands down best professor EVER! Lectures were inspiring and Dr. Iverson truly provides you with everything you need and more to earn an A! Also, go to office hours!!
Dr. Iverson is amazing and the best professor I've had. It is evident that he genuinely cares for his students. Overall, ochem was hard for me, but he presented the material in a fun and straightforward manner. He is receptive to student feedback, and there are many opportunities to get help. Also his TAs (especially Qifan) are the absolute best.
This man is everythingggg. I loved Ochem because of him. I heard the worst things about this class, but Iverson made it possible to do well. He really cares and enjoys teaching. Pay attention to what he emphasizes. Make sure to understand the HOMEWORKS, do PRACTICE EXAMS, and take advantage of the help they offer. Ochem is hard, but it's possible
Dr. Iverson comes to class everyday in a suit, and hosts surf-themed office hours evenings in a Hawaiian shirt. His years of expertise never dulled his enthusiasm for teaching, and even as an expert he never gets frustrated as he congratulates us with "good question" every time we ask. Thank you Dr. Iverson, for supporting us in and out of class.
Dr. Iverson is easily one of UT's best professors. He loves teaching and shows up with a smile every day. It's ochem, so the material isn't easy, but he works really hard to help you understand it. His exams are difficult but nothing on them is a surprise. If you can, Iverson is a must-take professor.
Dr.Iverson made me believe that professors are genuinely good people again. He is the sweetest ever and genuinely cares about people and made the hardest subject in the world possible to understand. He is so fun and makes lectures actually interesting. If you have the luck of getting him, hold on tight!
I thought he wouldn't live up to the hype, but oml this man is frickin amazing. If you can take him, DO IT, I feel so honored to have taken his class fr. Tests are very fair, but they are worth a lot, and ochem is not easy content so make sure to study! He gives tons of practice hw and exams, so do those and your set.
Dr. Iverson is the gem of UT. He restored my faith in professors for he is someone who ACTUALLY cares about his students. Having him as an Ochem professor is the greatest gift anyone could get in their academic career.
Having Dr. Iverson for O chem II truly was a gift. His lectures are engaging and if you pay attention, and take good notes, you will do very well in his class. Treat the practice problems like exams, and always take full length practice exams when studying. He truly cares about his students, and treats them like people.
The GOAT. Iverson is the golden standard for incredible lectures at UT. He goes above and beyond to maximize the learning experience, using effective strategies to make his lectures as helpful as possible. His genuine passion for the subject shines through, and he will do everything that he can to make sure you thrive in his course.
I LOVED DR. IVERSON!! I had Dr. Shabbir for CH320M and I thought I hated ochem, but Dr. Iverson made me love it!! He is very accessible outside of class and genuinely cares about his students' success. His exams were all very challenging, but very fair. Although he is not an easy A like everyone says, if you work hard you can earn an A.
Could not ask for a better professor. I was lucky enough to have him for CH320M and CH320N and it was an awesome experience. He really gives you all of the tools to succeed. Best way to study is to do old exams and re-do the homeworks. If you struggle with a concept then use the textbook but aside from that I didn't need it.
Dr. Iverson is one of the BEST Professors around!! I came in thinking I wouldn't like ochem, but Dr. Iverson made me love it!!
I took Dr. Iverson for both OChem 1 and 2. There is no person better suited to teach this class. Lectures are clear, he provides a multitude of resources for practice, and has some sort of office hours almost daily. He makes OChem a manageable class. There's a reason why so many people like him, he's the best professor I've had while at UT.
Iverson makes this class so enjoyable! Learning the content requires some effort, but the midterms and final are very doable.
Amazing, amazing professor, take him if you can!! Orgo 1 & 2 are so fun with him, you don't even feel like you're in class. He tells lots of fun stories to help remember concepts and holds lots of review sessions. Practice exams are very helpful in preparing for exams. I didn't need to take CH 328N and I took it anyway because he's that good.
The best professor I've ever taken. His lectures are amazing and he really cares about the content he teaches. He loves to promote health and exercising and it's really helped me overall outside of class too. Course has so many resources so if you're lost, you definitely have a chance to get back on track. Exams are very predictable and easy.
IM HIS BIGGEST FAN. Hands down the best professor, he truly cares about students, he is the BEST lecturer, content can get difficult but he truly explains things so well and is super approachable. He fosters the best learning environment, the tests are not hard and they a lotttttt like the homeworks. Go to office hours!!!! Iverson is awesome
My favorite professor so far! His lectures are engaging and fun, and he cares about your academic and personal well-being. He fosters a great learning environment and provides ample resources to do well. Office hours are very helpful and he is very approachable. Exams were not bad at all if you studied. Dr. Iverson is seriously a national treasure!
Absolutely loved him. He kept the whole class engaged through his witty comments and analogies. He taught in a way that made you understand and learn the material rather than memorizing. Homework + quizzes, but quizzes were due the next day and were easy. Exams were a bit tricky but just practice the released exams + hmwk! Made synthesis easy!
Very easy and doable class. Sometimes, I wished it was more to the point. Professor often goes on tangents to make the class easier (dumbs it down to the max so if you struggle w/ chem take him), which is not the best for ADHD students, however he makes good connections to pharma and chem-bio concepts. Overall, nice guy and nice TAs, so I recommend
truly the goat. hes been in the game for 30+ yrs so he truly knows what hes about. it says a lot that ive taken chem 1, 2, and ochem 1 here at UT and this has been my first A in a chem course. his website is a treasure trove. take practice exams, listen to his advice on the hw, and give yourself time to truly understand the material and youre solid
ochem2 is def much harder than 1 but iverson made it way better. the way he explains things is so good but ngl had to rewatch some lectures bc i didn't get it the 1st time. previous tests for practice and redoing the hws helped prepare for the tests.
He is a phenomenal professor at UT. Take him for O chem, you will not regret it! He is very passionate and attentive to the needs of his students. Make sure to go to his Office hours, do the HW (and redo them), and do the previous exams! His tests are fair to what he teaches, and he has clear expectations of what he will be testing on.
He seriously is the best professor at UT. If I would have tried a little harder and didn't have so much going on this semester, an A would have been easily attainable.
Honestly best science class I have ever taken!! I would have never imagined saying that for O Chem 2 but Iverson seriously made it that good. He made lectures so entertaining and truly taught why orgo is so important for our world. Tests are very similar to HW and past tests, so just work hard and practice and you should be fine.
Genuinely the BEST class I've taken at UT. I cannot even explain how good of a professor Dr. Iverson is. I was genuinely so sad in the last lecture at the end of the semester. If you can take him, I definitely recommend having him as a professor.
the best. caring professor, engaging, interesting lectures, EXTREMELY patient - answers everyone's questions and encourages any/all questions to be asked. best professor i've ever had
This man is him
Dr. Iverson is the best professor I've ever met at UT. I went to his office hours every week because he actually made ochem fun. He told us so many inspirational stories, and mentions that there is no stupid question to ask. I highly recommend taking him!
You won't regret it.
Absolutely incredible. Some of the best lectures I've had at UT so far and he actually makes a class that seems daunting interesting and fun. You do have to work hard to succeed in this class, but as long as you put the work in & take his advice on how to approach the class & study, you should be able to do well.
He makes me find ochem interesting. Class is test heavy but duh, do the old exams they help so much, and learn your mechanisms. He'll say it's not memorization and it's all about critical thinking but tbh it's a mix of both, do whatever works better for you. Overall loved him and 10/10 would take again.
Iverson is easily the BEST professor I have here at UT. By the end of the semester, I have a really strong grasp of OChem and genuinely enjoy the material. That being said, he is definitely not easy as some say. His class requires a lot of work and effort, and the tests can get REALLY difficult and unforgiving if you don't study well for it.
Dr. Iverson is simply the best in every way you can imagine. I took his OChem class back in Fall 2019, and not only was he the best professor I had for my STEM classes, he was my favorite professor at UT hands down. He's incredibly patient and compassionate with his students, and his lectures are very informative and engaging. Take him if you can!
Iverson is an amazing professor. His lectures are engaging, and he provides great resources to succeed. Redo homework and practice old exams - Unstuck ai also helped me prepare. Take this class, you won't regret it!
He made me love ochem. Very engaging and clear lecturer. Homework's and old exams heavily resemble exams. If you memorize the mechanisms, reactions, do, redo, and understand homework's and old practice exams, you will do great.
I LOVE THIS MAN. He has seriously changed my life, and I don't think I could get through Organic Chemistry II without him. He wants us to learn, understand, and apply material rather than memorize it. I know its tough, but please try to get into his lecture it will be 10000% worth it.
Dr. Iverson is one of the best professors I have had at UT. He is so excited to teach the material and wants you to understand it. He also lectures on some things that aren't on exams but interesting important to know topics. His office hours helped me a lot even just to sit and listen. Definitely recommend taking him if you can!
Why are you on rmp for this man? Go somewhere else lmao
Iverson has a passion for teaching and displays a love for ochem that intrigues everyone to be excited to learn. Even though ochem is content-heavy, he connects stuff we learn to real-life situations and products we use and its mind-blowing. I recommend Iverson 100% for ochem; he will change your view on education and make you love learning ochem!
the goat of ochem. took 320m and 320n with him, his grading policies are graded off only 3 things but is extremely understanding with one exam drop and your final can replace a test. ochem2 is harder than 1
His Aura is too much, I cannot fathom.
I'm begging you guys if you can take him please do it best decision in my life woke up everyday thanking god I had him. If you are a hard working student and not lazy you guaranteed an A.
While lectures are a bit yap-full (sorry), Dr. Iverson explains difficult concepts in ways that make Ochem easy to understand. Recorded lectures are great, as I did the class completely on my own time (do at your own risk). The course is test-heavy, but worthwhile. He is extremely accommodating to students' needs and genuinely cares about teaching.
One of the few professors who really, REALLY cares about his students. He wants you to succeed in life not just in his class. Only thing I did not love was that the TA's were not active at all on EdDiscussion, but that's not his fault.
He is super sweet and does care about his students. Ochem II did have a steep learning curve esp if you come from an easier ochem I professor like Callmann. I didn't do great on the first two midterms however he gives you the opportunity to replace final with a midterm so though midway through semester I thought I'd get a B, I ended up with an A
Dr. Iverson is by far the best professor I've had at UT. His lectures are super engaging and he explains ochem in a way that makes sense and also shows how ochem is important to our lives and our careers. I hated chemistry before his class and I thought I just wasn't a chemistry person, but Dr. Iverson helped me realize that wasn't true.
Dr. Iverson is by far one of the best lecturers I've had at UT (definitely the goat of Ochem!) Overall solid though grading is slow (except when the final was graded in one day?!), Canvas grade is not accurate at all whole semester, and your entire grade is exams (90%, t-score in place but not really helpful, no extra credit except 1 pt pop quiz).
BEST PROFESSOR EVERRR!! For reference, I got a B- in ochem 1 w/ Straumanis. Very glad I was able to change profs! He really cares about his students. He makes ochem so easy to understand and has many resources that help to prepare for exams. I won't lie, his homeworks were lengthy at times, but they did have problems that pertained to the midterms.
Actually the GOAT. Had him for both semesters (320M and 320N) and got As in both. Seemed more manageable compared to Ochem 1 since I was used to the material. Do everything he says, hammer the old exams, and you should be fine. This class is not an easy A - it is a sacrifice for sure- but your effort will pay off
If you're not good at learning on your own you def gotta pay attention in class, ochem did NOT come naturally to me so it took a lot of extra practice outside of class and homework, practice practice practice it's all about recognition.
Geniunely the best professor I've had at UT. For reference, I got a C in OCHEM I, and I thought OCHEM 2 would be worse; however, Iverson's commitment to explaining things in lecture and office hours, plus the numerous practice exams he gives (I did all of them before every test), made the class so doable and amazing. I would 1000% retake him.
I had Prof. Iverson for both ochem 1 and 2, and he's one of the best professors I've had. You can tell he truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed, and he made ochem understandable and a bit enjoyable. He also stressed the importance of physical health, especially running.
Free-est class ever. Iverson is amazing and super accommodating. I kept up with lectures asynch. and never got below a 98% on exams (except for one i missed). Keep grades off for the semester, as they are not accurate. For reference, I had a 40% most of the semester but still ended with an A. Keep up with content/practice heavily to succeed.
Iverson is extremely knowledgeable. Tests are long, but there are a lot of points to make up for mistakes. My only complaint is accessibility outside of class. TAs never use Ed discussion, so you're left stranded (which is hard if you're a commuter). Iverson's notes are also super messy and sometimes all over the place, which can be frustrating.
BEST OCHEM PROFESSORRR
BESTTTT Ochem professor could not ask for someone to explain better. Has a plethora of resources and is genuinely committed to ochem. Also brings in inspirational people and cares about health just as much as learning! Def not an easy A but if you put in the time its achievable.
Professor Iverson made me absolutely love organic chemistry. I didn't do too well in basic chem 1 & 2 so I was nervous coming into Ochem. He is genuinely the most caring and engaging lecturer. If you have the chance to take him, do it!!
Amazing professor! He's great at teaching, and he makes things as easy to understand as possible. He as a lot of resources to help if you struggle. There are several office ours throughout the week, all are recorded (as well as lectures).
i love brent. brent is the kindest, most caring, and brilliant professor i have ever had. not only does he truly care for his students as chemists, he cares for them as people (cue: run for the water plug). if you get the chance, you should take him. getting to experience a professor who is truly passionate is once in a lifetime! dr. iverson = king
Ochem is hard anyways, but he makes it as easy as he can
I could talk all day about how much I love Dr. Iverson. He cares for all his students, not only as students but as people. He makes Ochem easy and provides so many resources for students to do well. I would take him for every subject if he taught them. If you have the opportunity to take him, do it. He really is changing peoples lives.
One of the best professors I have ever had.
My Goat I love you Dr. Iverson
Having Iverson for Ochem 1 and 2 was an absolute privilege. Outstanding lectures, tons of resources to help (previous tests), and a fair amount of content that didn't feel overwhelming. A professor with so much experience teaching that the class is damn near perfect. Earning an A does require fairly good test scores though, so be prepared to work.
no other ochem prof can be better than him. offers old exams so you know exactly what will be on the exam, and sooo many resources. he truly wants his students to do well and is so caring and forgiving. content is still hard but he makes it manageable and digestable. TAKE HIM, no other prof is as good as him.
The best prof. I had. SO many resources and his lectures are amazing (don't skip). Tests are fair if you know your stuff. I had an A in the class the whole semester but the final got me and dropped my grade unfortunately. Go to problem solving office hours to ask TAs HW questions to get 100s on all HWs. I wish he offered a real curve on tests
