Attendance counted for 30% of the final grade There were three tests that each made up 20% of the final grade, and I only studied for an hour or two each time and easily aced them all. Three quizzes were given for 3.3% each and were open note. There were several extra credit opportunities given. Lectures were interesting and interactive.
I'm seriously obsessed with Professor Landau. He is engaging and intelligent and cares a lot about his students. He makes an effort to learn everyone's name and is always there to help you. I've taken 2 classes with him and he inspired me to change my major to religious studies. The class is very organized and exams are strictly lecture-based.
Professor Landau is one of the best professors I've had at UT. I have taken four semesters of him to fulfill my minor, and he is the best! If your interested in other courses, check out Intro to New Testament, Intro to World Religion and Beyond the New Testament! Definitely would take this again!
Lectures are interesting. But if you take New Testament, be ready to read the whole New Testament. You'll be challenged. Tests are writing heavy, but easy.
He's a great lecturer and makes learning about the Bible actually interesting. I definitely recommend taking his class. The tests contain material straight from the powerpoint and the quizzes are open-notes.
This was one of my favorite classes I've taken at UT! Professor Landau is very respectful of his students and will help you whenever you ask. His tests are based primarily on the lectures--so, if you show up to class, you should have no problem passing the exams! No final!
Very intelligent & nice professor. This was by far the easiest A I've ever obtained in college. 30% of your grade is attendance, 3 open-note quizzes, 4 exams that are straight from the powerpoint. Several opportunities for extra credit - I ended with a 102 in this class because of it. AMAZING GPA booster. Lastly, do NOT buy the books. Waste of $$$!
Dr. Landau gives great lectures! His class is not hard- just do the readings , go to class (daily participation questions are worth a big % of the grade), and study the night before exams. Straightforward tests and plenty of extra credit opportunities! I would be surprised if anyone made below an A- in this class. Highly recommend!!
Dr. Landau is funny and a very enthusiastic professor. He made the class interesting but his lectures were long. There's only 3 exams and no final. 30% of the grade was just for attendance taken through square cap. Towards the end of the semester he gave many opportunities for extra credit. I got an A in the class and never even read the books.
2nd class with Landau, he's an absolutely amazing person. 25% of your grade is attendance, 15 extra credit points towards 1 test, and each test has a give-away bonus question that's worth 15 points itself. Very, very interesting class. There is a 6 pg paper due at the end of the year over a religious site of your choice - I enjoyed writing it.
Took the class for writing flag credit. Attendance was taken every day. Reading workload fairly light but necessary for class participation. 4 essays throughout the semester, ranging in length requirement and weight, but if you show that you put in effort, he is an easy grader. Engaging professor and one of the most interesting classes I've taken.
Love Professor Landau! Attendance is taken nearly every day, but if you have a loyal friend in class they can send you the code. 4 easy quizzes, open note and he sometimes gives you the questions before hand. One big paper to write, but easy. 2 exams (including final), similar to quizzes but on paper. He also gives up to 15 pts EC on each!
The lectures are really fun, you get to talk about some really interesting topics. The tests are hand written and very specific, but he'll usually give you the questions beforehand. As long as you go to office hours and ask him what his expectations for the test are, you'll do fine.
Dr. Landau is an incredibly respectable and wonderful professor. He challenges one to think deeply about the material, but makes it really fun. He's an incredibly understanding professor and the workload isn't bad at all. Take the class not just for a gpa booster as noted below, but bc he is genuinely a fantastic professor and all classes are fun
Landau is great. My class was easy but somehow still stretched me. There was one short writing assignment and one final paper (8-10 pages) and the rest of the grade was attendance. I genuinely know more about the bible and biblical interpretations because of Landau and it was an easy A because he's an easy grader.
Lots of extra credit given. Tests are easy and class is an easy A because he makes it very easy to get extra credit
Great prof! Very interesting class that I learned a lot in and look forward to going to. The lecture slides are posted online, and there is a lot of extra credit. But going to class is important since he does attendance through squarecap, which is 20% of your grade. Would definitely take him again!
Course is an easy A based on 3 exams (w/ multiple choice and short answers), 3 online quizzes, attendance, and lots of partial credit. Lectures are super enjoyable and interesting... you'll take away a lot from this class! Best professor I've had, cares for his students, and actually enjoys teaching! MUST TAKE!!!
I've never been so excited to go to a 10 a.m. and I'm not sure I ever will again. He is awesome and his class is always super interesting.
Great prof, very nice, class was interesting but easy. You should definitely talk to him, approachable and very friendly.
Brent is a cool guy, my dudes. He wants everyone to do well, and he gives everyone a chance to do well. He gives the test questions before the test so you can prepare. Showing up in class is about 25% of your grade so that's easy. There are two tests and an essay along with a few quizzes. Class is really interesting tbh
There is a textbook but you don't need to read it, he posts his lectures online, he posts his slides online, you just have to go to class to get an attendance point. He gives you the questions for the tests btw (:
Attendance is 25% of your grade so come to class. He and his TA's aren't "easy" graders but if you put in the smallest bit of effort into this class you'll get an "A". His lectures are entertaining, and he gives you the questions on the test days before the test itself so you know exactly what to expect. A very interesting class and he's a nice guy
This class is a must take if you are looking for a GPA booster. I ended with a 105 in the class. There are 3-4 quizzes (take-home). There are 3 short answer exams, which he gives you the questions beforehand. If you show up to class and prepare well for the exams, you will get over a 100 average. He gives 15 extra credit points.
3 exams, great review sessions. Easy to pass with memorization the night before. Attendance is taken everyday and impacts grade. PowerPoints uploaded online for studying; lectures are interesting but if you don't pay attention, you can still pass. Really nice and passionate professor, lots of extra credit and a definite easy A. Interesting subject!
I learned so many new and interesting about Genesis in his class. He's passionate and knowledgeable about the subject matter and gives great lectures. How we dissected Genesis passages opened my mind to a new way of thinking. Attendance is part of the grade, and the paper writing process allows you to make great grades.
The class that I took was called intro to Christianity. I am a Christian so I was pumped to learn the historical background of something very personal and important to me. However, within one lecture I realized this was an atheist who was going to spend a semester tearing down my belief system. Anyway, just a caution to anyone whom this may apply
Dr. Landau is an INCREDIBLE professor. He did not attend seminary (from a devotional pov), but instead attended Harvard Divinity School (scholar pov). Because of this, he studies religious text from an unbiased pov. The man is a genius. He is knowledgeable, passionate, and caring. He is an amazing lecturer. His class was never boring. Take him!!
Dr. Landau is the professor that you go to college to find. He is extremely intelligent, funny, and a genuinely kind person. He grades generously, but you will find yourself learning the material just because he makes it so fun. His classes are entertaining, eye-opening, and an asset to any type of education. Take this dude. You won't regret it.
Good prof who knows his stuff. Class is pretty easy and lots of extra credit is up for grabs/given. 3 exams, 3 online quizzes, no final. Short answer part of the exam is a bit tedious, and you have to know your stuff to complete it. Attendance is mandatory bc squarecap. Learned a lot about the New Testament, so overall glad i took this class.
Dr. Landau made class interesting and made you think about others perspectives on things. He's super nice and really wants to hear what you think about different topics.
Professor Landau is the best prof at UT. His class is genuinely interesting and doesn't make the course unnecessarily difficult. 2 exam with a lot of writing, but gives the topics days in advance. 25% of grade is showing up to class. Truly cares for students. Gives up to 15 points on extra credit on assignments.
This class is extremely easy and his lectures are actually interesting for the most part. If you don't get an A you seriously messed up somewhere
Dr. Landau is the best! Such a nice, chill professor who wants everyone to do well and offers an insane amount of extra credit. Attendance counts for a good chunk of the grade but just show up as his lectures were usually pretty interesting. If youre on the fence, TAKE THIS CLASS
THIS IS NOT A BIBLE STUDY CLASS!! Do not get into his classes expecting to expand your faith. He teaches classes about the historical Jesus and the history of the gospels. We critique the bible here. My paper in this class is proving that one of the stories was made up! Landau is an amazing prof, please take this class and your mind will be blown
Don't be fooled by prior responses! Prof. Landau rambles on and on about things that ARE NOT going to be covered just about every lecture. Things can get very out of organization - really quick, and although he is a nice dude, he doesn't fear to fail you on assignments for minor errors, and is one of the more strict graders. Need Textbook & a Bible
Dr. Landau was a great professor whose lectures were interesting, relevant, and engaging. He is a pretty chill guy and gives off dad vibes. You can tell that he really cares about his students and the subject he teaches. You can miss classes and be totally fine. The only real grade is a term paper; otherwise just participation and attendance.
Landau was a great guy who wants his students to get a good grade in the course. Your grade is based off of a couple of quizzes / tests, but they're really doable. Also attendance is a huge part of your grade.
Dr. Landau is one of the kindest professors at UT. He genuinely wants you to succeed and does everything he can to help you. He's really passionate and sometimes his lectures go off on tangents so we didn't really follow the syllabus, but the things we talked about were so interesting. No tests, just attendance, sqaurecap, and a final paper.
Literally the best, can't say more nice things about him. Easy class, so interesting 10/10. Oh and don't buy the textbook, huge money waster. 11/10 tho loved this class
Prof Landau was super sweet and caring, esp with the COVID-19 situation. He ensured our workload wasn't too overwhelming and basically ensured we all were satisfied with our grades. Extra credit available. Tests are easy, just go to his review sessions!
Dr. Landau was an amazing professor with a clear passion for teaching students about religious studies. This was a large class, but it still felt personal. Cannot recommend Dr. Landau enough.
Class was about what came after the Bible was "written." Great experience, easy enough to get a good grade and learn a lot.
Dr. Landau is a very knowledgable and kind professor. He clearly cares about his students and is very understanding, especially with online courses. He will offer extra credit if you really need it and just wants to see you succeed. An easy A, I would take another a class from him any time.
Professor Landau definitely loves what he does and cares about his students. I found it hard to get too invested in the material of the class because I wasn't sure it coincided with my Christian beliefs. History of Christmas was a little bit less interesting of a course than the other course I have taken from him - Jesus in History and Tradition.
I thought this class was very interesting! If you take care of business, you will get a good grade. Being a Christian, at times I got nervous to get too invested in the material because I wasn't sure if it aligned with the Christian faith, but I would recommend this class!
Professor Landau is so sweet. He was super understanding with everything going on this semester, and significantly cut back our work load because he didnt want to overwhelm us. He cares a lot and I have learned so much in his class. Super interesting and an easy ish A! Just go to lectures. Take his class!!!
Professor Landau is extremely caring for his students. He is sometimes late to making his lectures, but usually with good excuse (we had Covid vaccines shots this semester rolling out). This class wasn't particularly difficult. The lectures are actually interesting. We looked at religions from a reflexive point of view, viewing them objectively.
Religion and Outer Space is an easy A for UGS 303!!! There is weekly reading reflection paragraphs, 1 midterm paper and a final project presentation. You can easily get an A in this class with minimal effort because the TAs are very chill and so is Landau. The material can be boring at times but no brain power is really needed for this course
Super caring about all of his students. A little strict about COVID so in person class was isolating but super passionate about the subject and just wanted us to see new perspectives
Professor Landau is really passionate about his subjects! His lectures are very all over the place and don't have a clear plan, but he is still interesting. This was a great UGS course and a very easy A. Most of the grade is based on the midterm and the final.
Landau's lectures are a little scattered, but Religion and Outer Space was an easy class with interesting enough material. Beware that your grade is 50% final project and 25% midterm, so getting started on that early would be smart.
His class is fairly easy and minimal workload. However it was impossible for me to pay attention during his lectures. There was no clear lesson, after each lecture I had no idea what had just happened. Overall the course is really unorganized if its the lectures or the canvas page. It is tolerable because its an easy ugs.
Prof rambled on meaninglessly. His lectures dragged on unrelated to the reading material. Reading sched AND syllabus were not lined up for weeks - most people were failing because you were ONLY graded on one reading response a week aside from midterm and final proj. He had to allow everyone 4 make up responses for full credit at end of sem. AVOID
Great teacher, best UGS 303 to take IMO.
Best professor I know people who have given him bad reviews must have a. never paid attention b. not tried at all or c. must have seriously not tried at all. He is by far an easy grader his assignments are you writing about what you learned in class, doesn't get easier than that. His lectures are awesome people must have not paid enough attention.
Professor Landau for RS 310 barely gave any work and would let you use notes on the quizzes. You could pretty much not show up the whole year and still be fine if you have half a brain. Attendance is technically mandatory but most people would just sign in and leave the zoom. Easy graders with the only real work being the religious essay.
Did not go to this class once. Signed in on zoom to complete the google form and left. Basically no work. Gave us all a 100 for quiz 3 because "too much was going on." 10/10 recommend. If you don't get an A you might actually be dumb.
Amazing man. He's passionate, sweet, and open to all interpretations and ideas. The class was very easy and required one short reading summary a week + a final paper. Easy A all around and an excellent choice for a writing flag. Attendance is mandatory, but it's worth the light workload. TAKE HIM. You won't regret it!
Prof Landau started out respectful of everyone's beliefs, but by middle of the semester was blatantly showing his opinions on religion and the new testament. The class is super easy, with only one lecture/reading reaction per week and like three take home quizzes, but he seems to often interpret scripture negatively in ways that don't make sense.
This class was extremely easy he had books to read but they were all accessible online. The lectures do get boring sometimes but the work itself is simple and can be done without the lecture.
I loved Dr Landau so much that I registered for a class just because he's teaching it next semester! Super interesting lectures, clear grading criteria, and really accessible and kind outside of class. Very easy to get a good grade - weekly reading reactions and sky reflections make up a good chunk of the grade. HIGHLY recommend!!
Dr. Landau is so sweet and caring. He genuinely wishes his students to success and indeed provides helpful material. He is very lenient on grading too.
Professor Landau is a must take professor for any UGS303 credit. Attendance is mandatory, but the lectures are engaging and worthwhile to listen to. The grade is mainly based on papers, but the papers are incredibly leniently graded. It is possible, and even probable, to get above a 100% in this class with relatively low effort.
Prof Landau is the sweetest professor at UT. He is so nice, funny, and a great lecturer.
Dr. Landau was very sweet and had super interesting lectures. Attendance was mandatory, but TAs are extremely lenient on any absences so long as you let them know. There are weekly reading and stargazing reflections, but you're mostly graded on the midterm and final papers. Definitely one of the easier UGS classes you could take.
You have to be stupid if you don't get an A
Suuuuuch an easy class. Landau is interesting and nice and cares about students. Attendance is huge % of grade but can be excused for literally ANY reason (abuse this). Other huge % of grade is weekly reflections that take like 30 min/week. 3 tests that are 15% of grade, very easy too. TAKE THIS CLASS, easy A and takes up none of your time.
Kind and understanding. Very lenient on weekly responses. Attendance is 25% of your grade so make sure to attend! I definitely recommend taking this course for your GC flag or any other requirements :)
Professor Landau's Intro to Religion is an easy class to take for the SB Social & Behavioral Sciences requirement. He really enjoyed teaching and he really appreciates it when the class actively participates during lecture.
Dr. Landau's class was quite interesting, and he made it very easy to enjoy his class and understand what he was saying. He looked at biblical history from a fairly unbiased lens. Obviously I didn't necessarily agree with everything he said, but he encouraged students to make their own judgements, and I really respected that. Would recommend.
TAKE HIM! one of the easiest classes I've taken so far. 3 quizzes=15% of the grade, weekly discussions=60%, and attendance=25%. quizzes (like 3 questions) are free response and open book but I just opened up the powerpoints and easily found answers through that. Discussions are what you found interesting from the lecture and are a completion grade.
Dr. Landau is very forgiving and provides a sense of flexibility. The class is extremely reading heavy but the assignments aren't taxing or take a very long amount of time.
Take this class ESPECIALLY if you need the CEHET and/or Global Cultures Flag. This was a great class to be in. His assignments are very difficult, and he is very forgiving and reasonable with his students. 10/10 recommend!!!
Professor Landu is awesome. Lectures were very interesting and overall course is great. Overall extremely easy to get an A and I highly recommend for anyone looking for a UGS to take. Definitely a lot of writing for mid-term and final, but almost everyone received an 100.
Landau is seriously the one of the best profs at UT. Even if you're not that into religion and religious texts, his lectures are genuinely super interesting and accessible. Weekly paragraphs graded on completion, heavily weighted attendance, and three (but he cancelled the last one bc he rocks) short answer format quizzes. 11/10 recommend!
super super easy class. basically everything is completion and the lectures are interesting sometimes. landau's really kind and gives a TON of extra credit (you don't even have to do anything for it lol). take religion and outer space for your ugs!
The worst public speaker I have ever witnessed. Says "uh/um" or "you know" every other word. Skeptical and critical of all religions. Not very approachable and will not respond to emails. Lets his personal opinions and emotions out in lectures, very unprofessionally. Requires you to buy 4 textbooks and binoculars. Discussion blocks were a joke.
sweet and funny guy! loved his lectures, TA was great too. weekly reactions to the textbook chapter for the week, each class was a discussion, and then final research paper at the end on any topic of your choosing that is pretty much graded on completion. he works with you and meets with you to go over the rough draft and is understanding + helpful
This class was really fun and interesting. Dr Landau keeps you very engaged and makes a huge effort to teach to you. His lectures are fun, often humorous. Throughout the year you will have to write two papers but they are very straightforward. All it takes is the knowledge on how to write a paper and effort. Daily assignments are easy. Great class.
great class! engaging professor who genuinely cares
Complete joke, fun class.
so fun! assignments were super easy and doable. he's passionate about what he does and fosters great discussions. a really fun and easy class that balances out taking other difficult courses.
Dr. Landau is a very chill professor and this was a great class to take for RS 310. Very insightful even for people who aren't considering majoring in RS but don't expect this class to be like a theology class, be ready to look critically at religion.
Prof. Landau is so amazing! He has contributed so much to his field of study and really knows the various areas of religion and outer space and knows how to lecture in a fun and engaging way. The books "required" for this class aren't really needed. They're used for reading reactions but you have other readings that he links as PDFs. Loved this UGS
He's a laid-back professor who makes the content engaging and values different perspectives.
This class was a pretty easy A as long as you do the weekly readings and show up to the lectures. The midterm is super easy as long as you review the powerpoints. There's a lot of assigned readings, but you can get away with it by skimming a couple of them and then doing the reading reactions by mentioning specific things.
professor landau is awesome! class was so easy. we had weekly reading reactions, weekly observing and discussion sections. the midterm was super easy, even if you just go through and review the slides. it's obvious he cares and just wants us to pass his class. i would recommend him for sure! the final is a 8-10 page paper over any topic you want
Dr Landau is such a great and caring professor. The lectures are generally very interesting and he is very knowledgeable in his field. He has a lot of extra credit opportunities. Midterm is very easy if you just go over the slides. Final is a 8-10 page paper. Such a great prof I signed up for another class with him next semester. TAKE THIS UGS!
An extremely easy class to take and borderline a free A. The lectures can sometimes be interesting but he isn't the best public speaker as he tends to use a lot of filler words when speaking. My only complaint is that the TA sections were boring and the one test we had didn't have a study guide nor say what topics it would be covering.
TAKE HIM FOR GC FLAG! For intro to the NT, showing up and writing 1 paragraph a week is 40% and the remaining 60% is exams that I got 100s on by studying for a couple hours the night before. Everything on them is from the lectures and thus the readings were basically optional. Also could get 10% extra credit on lowest exam score. Great prof
Professor Landau's lectures were actually pretty interesting, but can get boring sometimes. The main assignments are reading reactions you do not have to read the entire assigned reading for, and stargazing. The midterm is pretty easy as the answers are basically given to you beforehand. The final is a paper that you can write anything about.
I was initially reluctant to take this class because the title was a little strange, but most of the lectures were pretty engaging and informative. Grade was based off of reading reflections, stargazing, a midterm, and final paper. The midterm was easy and you could earn tons of extra credit. Overall, this class was chill and I would recommend.
BEST UGS SO FUN, super laid back and the material isn't difficult at all. first 2 weeks you're literally watching movies and the grading is not harsh. the final research paper is also nice and was kinda fun to complete. he is so nice and caring, if you can take this class TAKE IT. only annoying this is attendance is mandatory but its ez
Dr. Landau understands what he is talking about. Tests are pretty easy with minimal participation in the class, go to class, skim the textbook material, and show up for the review sessions, and you should do fine. He does care about what he teaches and is very knowledgeable as I enjoyed his enthusiasm.
Amazing professor, Religion and Outer Space was the most fun class I think I've take in all my years of schooling. Lots of interesting topics covered throughout the course and there was never a day where I didn't want to come to class. Lots of flexibility on the final paper, and I had more fun researching and writing the paper than any other paper
Amazing professor, I had him last semester from Religion and Outer Space and it was the best class I've ever taken. Super engaging lectures and really fun course material. Final paper was the most fun paper I have ever written. 10/10 would 100% take this class again or another of his classes. Take Religion and Outer Space!
The most caring and wholesome professor! Truly passionate about what he teaches and I actually find his lectures interesting even though I only took the class for the flag. Attendance is mandatory but tests are super easy, he gives you a study guide with questions that will be on it. Simple material and you can tell he wants everyone to succeed.
Very caring professor, easy to reach out. Great class to take if you need a behavior science credit. Tests are not that hard, and he offers a bonus anyway. 30% of your grade comes from attending class and writing a short review about the content every week. A great class to boost your GPA and learn about religion.
This is a great class to learn about religion. Professor Landau is a pretty cool guy, and his lectures are fascinating. The class is incredibly easy if you pay attention, and the required textbooks are not actually required for anything-- he only asks questions on content he discussed in his lectures.
Professor Landau is a nice guy, and is passionate about religious studies. It is easy to get an A. His classes are very unorganized and do not have a structured format. Attendance is mandatory, so I felt like I was wasting my time during lectures. Most of my peers were online shopping or doing other homework during class.
Professor Landau gave great, in-depth lectures. Attendance is required, and he gives you a code for an attendance quiz at the end. Many students work on other things during lecture or show up towards the end, but I highly recommend paying attention; they're entertaining and the best way to study for the exams. You won't have to work hard for an A.
He is the GOAT. Class was very easy, and lectures were very interesting. Dr. Landau is the best!
I though the topic (Religion and Outer Space) was really interesting, and although it's clear that Dr. Landau cares deeply about both the topic and his students, I honestly found his lectures quite drawn out and boring. There's a decent amount of weekly assigned readings, but they can be easily avoided and the workload is extraordinarily light.
I had a terrible experience in religion and outer space. Dr Landau seems like he means the best, but his lectures are so boring. I think I can almost speak for everyone when I say that no one was paying attention during the required lectures. His class turned into a study hall. It is VERY easy though, and I had a lot of fun in discussion sessions.
Bro it's literally impossible to fail religious and outer space. Although his lectures are really boring, the class is super easy. Take this UGS if you can it's such an easy A.
you can tell he is very knowledgeable and passionate about his work, but the lectures are very boring and hard to sit through. there are also copious amounts of assigned readings. like 100 pages a night. assignments are easy, just weekly reading and observing reflections, but actually doing the reading and observing is a struggle
Prof. Landau is always a great choice for RS courses and his History of Christmas class was super interesting and fun. Graded on weekly reading reactions, a midterm (that he reviewed in class), and a final book report/research essay. Great person and great professor!
