Brent Spitler is young, good looking, and charismatic. He's an informatable fella and remembers what its like to be a full time student with a job and family. Look closely, he has an earing hole in his left ear. Must've been a badass.
Spitler is the man! Sign up for his class if you wanna watch Office Space! and he is a good teacher.
Great instructor, good sense of humor. You must study in this class. Mr. Spitler expects you to learn what he's teaching, tests are not easy unless you study.
This class material is hard for those that are not math-minded. As long as you study for tests and do the excel projects--you should be okay. great teacher! good sense of humor
A really great guy and a great teacher. I failed stats in high school and was terrified going into his class, but it all worked out. Focuses on the business aspect of stats, which is AWESOME.
Spitler is a great prof. I suck at math all around but he really made it easy for me. I took 3 other math classes and I still got a B in his class, Tests are easy if you just study..not to mention hes easy on the eyes..haha Very Fun and easy to get along with!
Mr. Spitler is a very awsome teacher. He is good looking, which helps with anything, funny, and explains things very well! If your scared about taking stats, this calss will ease your mind. Very helpful!! I recommend :D
Cool teacher boring subject. ask and you shall receive in his class, self proclaimed "king of partial credit"
He is a really great teacher and is willing to help if you need it. He does not review for tests but if you do both the assigned and practice homework you will be fine. If you have to take this class take it with him you will no be disappointed.
He was an amazing Professor. The best I have ever had. He will help you with anything and give you partial credit if you at least do part of the problem. He wants you to learn from your mistakes so if you get part of it right you should get part of the credit. Best prof ever. Take him.
Mr. Spitler is the best professor I have had, period. I had him for Business Statistics, and he did an awesome job of incorporating his real world experience into the class. I would recommend him to anyone. He is a great guy who cares about each of his students success, and will do everything he can to assist them in achieving their goals.Awesome!
Great teacher. Does all teaching, yet keeps the class at a comforting level. Very helpful during class, will take time to help students if they have questions. Overall great teacher, would suggest him to anyone. Class is hard but its worth it
Great professor! Very nicely organized syllabus. Took us to a hockey game so we could also meet each other (it was online). A lot of work and those timed tests were stressful, but there's extra credit stuff here and there. Very communicative instructor. I wish I had taken this class in real life!
The BEST professor I have EVER had from GRCC OR Davenport. He is so friendly, super helpful, and makes STATS fun! I was terrified of this class before I started, but couldn't have asked for a better professor. Now I have him for an online class and he's even great online. Take any class with him you can!! He also has REALLY nice hair! ;)
Brent is a great instructor. Very down to earth. He understands we all have personal lives, so he's not all hung up on busy work like some professors. What he does is gives you a list of problems, and then you are expected to do only as many of those problems as you need to in order to get a hang of the chapter. Great way to do it if you ask me.
Excellent professor. Hope to have him in statistics and a few other classes.
Mr. Spitler is a true asset to GRCC - absolutely wonderful, gifted teacher! Statistics was intimidating to me, but I can now say that this was my favorite class I have ever taken. Spitler does a fantastic job with explaining everything. Exams are tough, but very fair. Could not ask for a more professional, yet down-to-earth instructor.
OH MY GOSH! Coolest teacher ever!!! I literally hate math, but he has made it absolutely fun and easy. I was dreading going into a statistics class but because of his fun teaching style and great energy I feel so focused on all the math problems and how he teaches them. I recommend him to ANYONE! He is very clear about everything @ willing to help.
Spitler is an excellent professor. The information in the class is difficult but he makes it easy to understand. He is also very helpful and will take time to explain something if you don't understand. He never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. He doesn't grade based on attendance, but if you want a good grade you have to be in class.
Spitler is the man!!! Attendance isn't mandatory, homework isn't mandatory, but if you want a clear understanding you should do both. His tests are hard, but you have two excel projects that are worth almost 1/3 of your grade that are super easy. I am not a math wiz at all, but I got an A in this class by just following his directions.
Best teacher that I have had. I do not even enjoy math, but he helps make it very clear and explains everything. Take his class!!
Online class. Not very engaged on the discussion boards, but he is extremely clear about what needs to be done and when. Text is horrifically boring. Lots of analysis type writing assignments. Can't say I learned anything practical to apply to real life and work.
Good professor. gives the formulas for the tests. no homework, expects you to do assigned problems. very relaxed classroom.
You get in what you put in Spitler is the man. He helps all the time gives so much extra credit that even if you are failing you'll pass i consider the excel project extra credit because he makes a video that helps you do everything what more of a handout do you need more than that if you fail Spitler's class you fail at life!
Hard class. He was a nice professor but when we had football at the college, he would never shut up enough for you to learn anything. the only way I passed was do to extra credit. He encouraged the irritating prep talk/gossip in the back of the room...Only got someone to shut their mouth by glaring at them during a test.
LOVE this guy. He's quite flexible and outgoing. 5 posts every two weeks for each discussion board isn't so bad. Then you have a few papers to do every 3 weeks and they're due by the end. Be thorough with the case studies though. I took his online class, and liked it.
I was a little nervous to take this class but ended up LOVING it! I took it online and found this professor very helpful. It was a shortened summer class. Lots of writing and busy work but he actually reads everything you write. His instructions are crystal clear, which is also very helpful in an online course. I would definately recommend him!
A paper is due almost every week, (I took an online summer class) and the papers are VERY tedious, I always ended up with 8 pages, easy to write, just tedious.2 online quizzes every week, its either pass or fail. You do a stocks project for 9 weeks. Tests are 60mins/60Q. As you can see its ALOT of work, but overall great class. great teacher
Very well spoken and easy professor. I took the online summer course and his instruction are straight-forward. Participate in discussion board at least 5 days in the two weeks and do the 4 papers and you'll do fine. I'm not a business major but found this class very useful.
Favorite Teacher Ever! It's very easy to listen to this man lecture. He's super helpful, and very understanding when life doesn't go as planned. Great teacher! I wish all of mine were like him.
GOOD TEACHER
Less than impressed with his teaching style. Will not take another class with him.
Great teacher best i have had at cc so far and im 80 credits in. Everything is laid out for you from the start and he teaches everything step by step. Show up and you will pass.
My favorite professor so far! He's hilarious, easy to get off topic if we talk about hockey. Answers any questions you have and doesn't mind taking time to explain things that you don't understand. I was not thrilled about taking Stats, but it was actually fun and tolerable with him. If you miss class he lets you attend other classes he teaches.
Spitler's a really good guy, by far my favorite prof. He really cares about his students and was always there to help, great class
You need to go to class to understand what is going to be on the test. The tests were a little tough but he is more than willing to help and explain anything you need. Great teacher.
Mr. Spitler was a great teacher. He is concise and up to the point in his lectures. Very knowledgeable about what he teaches. Gives excel projects that really helps in your grades. I would definitely take him again as a professor. Really cares about the students.
Prof Spitler is one of the best profs I've ever had. He explains things well, relates the problems to real life, and clearly goes over what is on the exams. He is an awesome guy that actually cares about his students.
Took this as a summer class, very easy as long as you do the work. Gives you deadlines a couple weeks before the assignment is due so you have plenty of time to start on it. The papers were lengthy, but if you follow directions its simple.
Great teacher
Brent is one of my favorite online course instructors that I have had at GRCC, and I've had a lot! Course work is fairly easy, just spend time on the essays, following directions and go over key terms for the tests. Usually gives you full credit for discussions if you follow the 5 day comments, which is awesome. Tough tests, which was surprising.
Class format is set up to be a lecture class, not an on line class.
Honestly my favorite professor this far. I have been at GRCC for two years and have good professors as well as bad professors and he was by far the best. I am not good at math at all, I hate it! Professor Spitler keeps it fun and helps all learning styles, he is also very personable. He is also a great online professor. Highly recommend him!
Always a good story to begin the class, very energetic and a well rounded personality. Very good at thoroughly explaining topics and how to reach the end goal. Does a lot of work outside of class with the lab to create "White Pages" which are very specific homework questions. They clearly outline what knowledge and capabilities you will need.
By far one of my favorites. He is knowledgeable in the subject. He has real-world experience, and it comes into play often in his awesome and insightful tangents. He articulates the source material with precision, but does so in his own way. He's hilarious, he cares about you as a person, and he's a fantastic teacher. Work hard; you'll be rewarded!
Amazing professor. His requirements for class are black and white, so it's impossible to NOT understand exactly what he's looking for. Online course so heavy focus on interaction/discussion boards. Dry sense of humor (found that out day one), but he's very understanding and kind. I want to take as many courses as possible with him.
Very easy to understand online class. Work is clearly laid out for you. Will get an easy A if you do work ahead of time and actually try.
Outlines everything you need to do clearly. Very understanding- I once turned in a quiz a minute late so Blackboard recorded it as a 0%. I emailed him and explained the situation, and he changed my grade. At the end of the semester I had only earned an 83%, but he posted my final grade as an A! Heads up-the tests are difficult! Read read read!
I like that he posts all the assignments on the schedule so you'll know what you'll be doing each week and when its due. Requires 5 discussion posts over 2 weeks. The book is on McGraw so don't bother buying, just the online access. Overall its an easy A as long as u submit everything on time. Not a tough grader at all
You will work for your grade, but he's a great professor. He wants you to succeed. He's very nice. Homework is very busy-work but he gives you ample time to do it. He offers you a free online book. Lots of experiments online customizing products and making fake investments. Really fun! If you follow the schedule & work, you'll get an A+.
Prof. Spitler seemed like a professor who cared about all of his students. I had some personal problems in the middle of the semester that wouldn't let me submit my work when I was supposed to. I asked if I could submit it early, at first he said he would open everything. At the end, he only opened the test. I emailed him but never got an answer.
Spitler is a great professor. He does a good job explaining the topics and reviewing. He is funny in lectures, and will take extra time to explain anything. His class was very organized and he gives all the resources necessary to do well in the class. Highly recommend.
Prof Spitler is honestly one of my favorite professor I have had. He takes his time relating and explaining things to you. He wants everyone to pass and gives many chances for you to pass. Spitler is hilarious too! Every time I see him in the hall he makes a point to talk to me and joke around! Would take any class he teaches!!
He's awesome!!!
Awesome professor! He doesnt really care about attendance but I suggest you go or you wont understand the material. Gives a lot of homework which is mostly busy work but helpful for understanding. (Doesnt check homework) Hes willing to help you with any questions and go over problems with you. Super nice guy I would take again.
I think that Professor Spitler is one of the best Professors I have had thus far in my college career. There is a lot of reading, I read the entire textbook, but it was worth it. If you make sure to participate in the discussion, read, and study it will be an easy A.
Mr. Spitler is a very easy professor. He gives you 1 discussion board per week and usually 1 or 2 "cases". The book is free and he attaches the chapter to each week's work. It's really easy but you have to stay on schedule. You can't work ahead and you need to post 3 different days each week. It's really very simple.
I took a class of his through zoom. Learning a math class through zoom is not easy, but he really tries his best to give his students the best ways to go through the content without lecturing over zoom. You will need to put in the effort, but he gives good resources to ensure you succeed.
Class is very organized and assignments are consistent. You always know whats coming up (the course schedule helps a ton). Everything is on there. Discussion boards, approx. 3 page course study every 2 weeks, 4 tests. Read 1-2 chapters/week. Ive never had any issues with Prof. Spitler and am enrolled in another one of his classes next semester.
Professor Spitler is organized, communicates clearly and professionally. He is respectful, sets clear expectations and guidelines; he is fair and encouraging, and helpful and kind. The course was set up very well in Blackboard. It is a decent workload, but he gives you a great structure and a generous (but specific) timeframe to complete things.
Professor Spitler is awesome! I had him this past semester for BA 254. I was really nervous about taking stats but it wasn't bad at all. The class was online and as long as you go to class then you will be fine. He is there to help and will walk you through questions. He also posts step by step videos that are SO helpful! One of the best for sure!
I've taken classes with Professor Spitler twice now and I've really enjoy his classes online. He is incredibly attentive and caring toward his students, and makes it clear on what he wants you to do as far as homework and assignments. I learned a lot from him and would definitely take a class with him again.
No complaints, he just does the job well.
Helpful and informative, displays a clear understanding of course material, and appears to be passionate. A bit slow on grading though.
Does a poor job responding to emails. Grades slowly and marks you down for things without letting you know why. This class was online and he provided absolutely no lectures and just had us read the book. He posts course material from up to 9 years ago. Doesn't provide anything for studying even after teaching none of the material. Avoid him!
Took his class online so not a lot of interaction but seems like a nice guy and his class structure is very organized. My one complaint is the case studies which are tedious busy work every 2-3 weeks and he grades rather critically so you cant just whip them out. I would have benefited more from actual homework assignments that reinforced material
This professor does not leave any feedback on what to do to improve your score or what you did wrong on your case studies that he assigns every 2-3 weeks. I also emailed him a question once about his test and he never responded to it. Overall communication is lacking from this professor if that is something that concerns you.
Not quick at responding to emails (these emails had questions i needed assistance related to the homework). I posted to the discussion board 3 times a week and rarely was given full credit with no explanation. Avoid if possible. Sadly I was signed up for a summer class and when I saw he was the instructor I decided not to take the class.
Professor Spitler is amazing. The class was well-structured & relatively easy. Yes, there is "a lot" of work but it isn't overwhelming if you keep up with it. I promise as long as you participate, put your best foot forward, & do your work... you will pass the class. He's a fast grader with helpful feedback- you will learn tons!
Do not reccommend!
He was great
He is a great professor, he does a great job of explaining the assignments and providing feedback.
I've taken two classes with him and didn't care for him at first. But after realizing that it was mainly a "me" problem with readjusting back to school, I wound up liking his style and now seek out his classes whenever possible. Not super interactive throughout the week, but consistent week to week with assignments so you know what to plan on.
Very responsive to email questions. Can be a tough grader but seems fair in his grades. Assignments were posted on time every week. I enjoyed this class.
Spitler isn't the worse out there. His assignment schedule is clear and you know what you have to do week to week. The problem with Spitler is that he doesn't give good feedback. He will mark you down significantly without any feedback at all. If you ask about it, its just a generic response. Very frustrating, also get ready to write-very heavy
Harsh grader with very little feedback. Has a forum for class questions but has ignored every question that's been posted. Ignored emails as well when I tried to contact him. Tests and discussions are easy, but he grades the papers as if its an English class and again gives no feedback why you get marked down.
Never responded to emails. Never gave feedback on any assignments. Did not participate in online discussion.
Great guy, cared about me as a person, very easy to work with, the subject was just hard, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have passed.
At first I was overwhelmed when this class started, I'm not great at writing papers but my writing has improved greatly because of how much he challenges us to do our best. This ended up being one of my favorite classes this semester and I would take another of his again.
I have had this professor before and enjoyed his class, however, this class was different. It was extremely text and essay-heavy heavy which in itself is not horrible but the grading was unclear and no feedback was ever given. I don't know if I would take this professor again simply because he was unclear in almost all aspects of the class.
Professor Spitler is a great person with a lot of experience outside of the classroom. He makes learning easy and the class is simple if you go to class.
I like this professor because the assignments are simple and the workload is not heavy. He can be a tough grader and I don't mind that but I would like some feedback on my assignments so I can know what to do better next time.
Incredibly difficult grader for no reason. Your papers could be completely pristine and yet he will mark you down for absolutely everything despite him being the one not providing clear rubrics. And when you call him out for it rather than being helpful he will just threaten to escalate to student affairs. Will never take this professor again.
Spitler is one of the best instructors at GRCC. Stats is tough, but he will help you succeed. The class has 4 tests and 8 Google Sheets projects, so stay on top of the work. He lenient on grading, gives credit for effort, even if answers aren't perfect. Please go to the test reviews and use tutoring, they truly help. Also, the textbook was free!
Decent teacher, nothing too difficult. If you want an easy class, this one is pretty good. Free textbook and straightforward work. Weekly discussion posts, 4 tests, and 8 short case studies throughout the 12-week course, and a very easy final exam.
While the work itself was pretty simple there was a lot of it. The professor is also a tough grader and only provides a rubric as feedback.
Does not answer any emails and uses online textbooks that were difficult to get into.
