He teaches freirean, he gets the class very invovled, Participation and attendance is part of your grade. He has great stories to share. He's all about significance in all your work. Great professor, always helpful. Highly Recommended :)
He is an excellent teacher who makes the class very interesting! Very fun, entertaining and easy. I would recommend it to anyone.
Brent is my favorite professor ever, hands down. He really makes you feel important and is willing to help accomodate your needs. Three speeches total, and one is a group presentation. The papers are not hard to write as long as you really put some thinking into it. I look forward to going to this class every time! Definitely worth your money!
By far my favorite professor I have ever had. I always looked forward to going to his class because I knew that everyday he would have a great and interesting story/lesson that day! I would recommend him to ANYONE!
This class will change your world right now.
I hated the fact that i was having to take public speaking i didnt want to give speeches but i loved his class, he likes to take time to hear students opinions and lets you chose when things are due! has a lot to offer you about life!! Great class highly recommend!
He's a really great guy who wants you to be the most "YOU" you can be. Wants you to break out of your comfort zone. The class is very supportive; everyone always respects one another. 3 major speeches: 2 solo and 1 group final. He is one of the best teachers on campus! Always always always makes time for students. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!
He is my mentor now. He is willing to put all sorts of time into educating and befriending his students. My whole class except for one student really loved him as a teacher.
Amazing professor. No exams given at all! All you have are three presentations. Going to class is a must because you're graded on attendance. Definitely take this class with Brent!!
Brent is by far one of my favorite teachers I've EVER had. I wasn't thrilled about having to take a public speaking course; however, I loved his class! There are no tests, but there are three presentations (we only got to two due to time). Attendance is a must because that counts towards your grade, but you'll enjoy attending!
Brent is a amazing teacher! i was a little hesitant about taking a public speaking class but he made class much more than just talking in front of people! he teaches very powerful and insightful lessons! an amazing teacher!!! i really love this class!!!! my favorite class that semester!
Brent is one of the best professors I've ever had! Every day you learn things that make you look differently at the world. You bond with everyone in the class. You feel like you are presenting among friends. He is so inspiring. He retired at an early age and teaches because he wants to make a difference in student's lives. I would highly recommend.
Brent is AMAZING! Not only do you learn public speaking skills, but you learn much more important life skills. Brent is so inspirational and you will leave class everyday looking at the world differently. You get to choose the topic of your presentations so you can make it significant. Everyone should take this class from Brent!
This is an Interpersonal Small Groups communication class, so yes 12 of the semester you will be dealing with your group and group projects. There is an 8 hour service project that is hard to figure out if your group is big. Think 5 people! Brent is an amazing teacher though and you will learn more than you ever thought possible.
Brent is somewhat harsh on grading presentations and outlines. He wants the speeches to be significant and if it isn't, you'll not do well. Also the outlines need to be the exact same format from the book outline format. Class attendance is mandatory, and if you don't come to class you will fail. Overall the class was great. Highly recommend.
Great course! We did an impromptu, personal , informative, and persuasive speech. Wrote 2 essay (2 pages), did 3 reading reports (Like 5 questions about our reading assignments). You can only miss one class period without it affecting your grade. Definitely recommend this class! He's a great teacher and willing to work with you.
Sets proper expectations of what he expects of you. Tries to get all students involved and teaches in a different, but fun way. Talks about himself a little too much, other than that excellent teacher. Take this class from him.
Brent is an amazing teacher, and his classes are life changing. I would recommend his class to anyone. My only complaint is he is fair, but very hard to please. Make sure to add significance to your works in this class, because you won't pass otherwise. But generally, he will work with you to ensure you pass, if you want to. Take his class!
This class was good. I took it just needing the credit because I'm a COMM minor. The only issue I had with Brent was he has the classic case of thinking he's the only class you're taking. You have to meet with a group several times, do 8 hours of community service, and make a cake that you have to pay for. Also, rarely gives 100 percent.
Brent is an amazing teacher. There isn't much homework, so when there is, you want to do good because of how much effort Brent puts into you. His class is definitely life changing. You do have to do 8 hours of service with a group, but most comm teachers require the same, if not more. GO WITH BRENT! You won't be disappointed, I promise!
Brent Warnock starts the semester off by talking a lot about himself. Then, he continues to do this throughout the entire semester. Basically everyday is about him, and how successful he is. As a teacher, he teaches differently than most, but I still wouldn't recommend him to anyone. The course is basically a course on Brent Warnock 101.
Brent really cares about his students and his class and his lectures are really fun and interesting. Not an easy A. Every class missed docks you by a letter grade unless you have a doctors note so be prepared. Half of your grade is a group project, which takes a lot of time outside of class and the grading is not entirely clear and subjective.
Start looking for who you want in your group the first day it can be your down fall. He was willing to help but for a communication class there was a lot of things left to be desired, He was not clear on assignments or the test he gave a study guide but the test had nothing to do with it. He is not on top of grades.
Brent's classes are wonderful. He has so much passion for communication. He teaches with stories, both from his personal and business life. Yet, he also invites the entire class continually to share their own stories. If you prefer to learn by discussion and stories - rather than lecture - you will enjoy and appreciate his unique teaching style.
Really great teacher!! He gives you all the things you need to pass his class and almost no homework. A little reading but he makes them short. Just make sure you're in a good group and you show up to class. He does share a lot of stories but all of them teach a point. Be sure to share and take him seriously, the more participation the better.
Brent is a fantastic professor. Having him as a friend, mentor, and teacher will do nothing but benefit you. Go to class or you won't pass. Attendance is everything.
Warnock is a fantastic teacher. His classes are easy as long as you participate and be involved in the projects and activities. I took interpersonal and small group comm and public speaking from him, both were a lot of fun. He makes his classes exciting and interesting, and best of all, I learned a whole lot from him. I recommend him 100%
Brent tends to talk about himself a lot. He is definitely not the average professor and he grades on, what I feel, is a harsh grading scale. If you want an A, you need to blown him away. Classes are lecture heavy and can be hard to pay attention to. He's not a bad teacher, he just has a bit of room to improve. Attendance policy is very strict!!
I took Mr. Warnock's in class comm2110 course. The information you will get from class is useful, however if you are looking for an easy A and don't like group projects, I would suggest taking this class from another teacher or online. He grades everything on a scale of 1-10 and "rarely hands our 10's." This makes it near impossible to obtain an A.
Brent Warnock is one of the best professors I've ever had in my college career. He teaches you great communication skills that you can use in any life situation and teaches great life lessons in general. You will learn so much by taking this class. He is a very relaxed and easy grader.
This is the best professor I have had so far, if you show up and practice your speeches you will receive a good grade. Also do not buy his, "fill a need" book we only read it once, share one with a friend or something. also buy the older version of the textbook its a lot cheaper.
THIS PROFESSOR WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Not much work, but the work is always meaningful. He teaches about life and oddly enough it coincides perfectly with communication. No tests.
One of the greatest Professors I've ever had. I actually looked forward to going to his class. He requires 97% attendance or you will get dropped a half letter grade per absence. You will enjoy going to class though so thats never a problem. You'll learn more useful things for life in this class than any other class you'll ever take.
The family comm class is really easy but it feels like a therapy session where you have to sit and listen to everyone's problems. Absences and a lack of speaking (sharing your drama) in class will hurt your grade.
This class did not feel like a college course. I know Prof. Warnock means well, but his lectures and discussions felt like vent sessions that were sometimes pretty awkward. At the end of the course I felt that I didn't learn anything.
Brent is an amazing professor, he shares a lot of stories during his lectures which make them interesting! He also teaches a lot of real life communication skills that you can apply, and he wants you to be able to apply them in the real world! He is also very inspirational! And there is not very much homework.
This class while easy to pass as long as you show up, is nothing more than a joke. You will not learn anything in this class but you will pay for the gen. ed. credit you get. Professor Warnock is a very caring person but college classes are meant to be more than easy A's but if that's what you're looking for. This is your guy.
Brent is a super passionate person. He is eager to share everything he knows about communications and life in general. Most classes all you have to do is show up and listen to his stories, which are usually awesome. Its a group-project class so you work with your group the whole semester, but it ended up being the best group project I ever did.
By far the most amazing professor I have in my entire life. This teacher is inspirational and his lectures are interactive and life changing. Although it's group work, he teaches you how to work in groups and you make great friends. Hard grader but you can easily get an A if you do the work. You don't really need the book but you should get it tbh.
I ENJOYED THIS CLASS VERY MUCH SO I WANT TO PAY FOR SOME OF MY FRIENDS TO TAKE IT OR RECORD THE CLASS SO I CAN SHOW MY FRIENDS. HE IS A VERY SWEET AND FUNNY PROFESSOR. I WOULD RECOMMED TAKING THIS CLASS!
Brent is honestly a really amazing professor. He is very compassionate, inspirational, and kind. He has really made a difference in my school life, work, and personal life. Helped me get out of my comfort zone more and gave me great advice. Showing up will help you pass the class. Real easy grader, and he is big on group projects so be prepared.
Professor Warnock has a gift for teaching. I have never had a professor that was so impassioned in the subject. His class teaches much more than just public speaking.
Brent is an awesome proffesor. He makes you feel like you are his friend, rather than just another student. He also tells great stories. His public speaking class is a little hard at first not being able to use notes or anything, but he does good job at preparing for you for it.
Brent is a solid choice but his lecture material doesn't always have a lot to do with the material in the book and do no prepare you for his quizzes. His quizzes are very technical so read the reading thoroughly. He has a lot of group projects that must be done outside of class. Show up to class, interact with the class. He's very understanding
Very group project oriented, so don't take this class from Warnock if you prefer individualism. The lectures can sometimes be interesting, but a lot of the time it's just ranting and raving about success stories. At this point in the semester, I don't truly believe that I've learned anything new. Most of the material is common sense stuff. Easy.
Horrible grader. He grades the team tower project by giving only the group with the highest tower 100%. All his grades are 1-10 with very few points given so your grade is make or break by just a few assignments. You learn the content but just not a good professor. He is very prideful, talks about himself a lot and the class should be Brent 2110.
Honestly loved Brent. You have to go to class to pass & you work in a group the whole semester but I enjoyed my group so it wasn't bad. There are few group assignments & they aren't worth much. You have to do 8 hours of service with your group so get it done asap. You need the textbook & he has you buy his own book but you dont need his that much.
One of my favorite classes I have taken! The conversations were enlightening, and Brent is so warm and caring and accepting of any comment and any idea brought up. Basically the whole class is discussion with very little lecture. Then add in a few good movie clips and fun stories and you have this awesome class! It really is amazing.
This class was really fun and I learned a lot. The only reason I dont give this class less difficulty is because of the group projects. I know that its interpersonal communications, but the first group project was graded by the other groups. My team did not receive a good grade, which I thought was unfair. Other than that, LOVED Brent.
Brent was an amazing Professor. I absolutely loved taking his communication 1020 class. He is a pretty strict grader, but he gives really helpful feedback. If youre willing to develop your speaking skills this class can be very beneficial for you. Attendance is mandatory, but he makes the class fun and enjoyable. Very discussion oriented.
Brent changed a lot in my life for the better. He opened up my eyes to the importance of communication, having an open mind to other perspectives and how to be more confident in myself. Brent is so caring and truly does want all of his students to succeed in and outside of the classroom. This will always be one of the best classes I ever take.
Awesome professor. Took his class as a general education requirement but it ended up being one of the most influential classes I have ever taken. Brent cares about you as a student and will continue to help you become successful throughout your educational career. One of the very few professors who genuinely cares about his students. Great class.
He is very inspirational and gives a lot of interesting lectures. I love the different activities that he has us do. If you have to take this class I highly recommend taking it from him.
Brent is an mazing professor. Took this as my first college class and I am very glad I did. One of the best instructors I've ever had.
This class was so much fun. Yes, its mandatory, but you end up WANTING to go. There are lots of group activities, so the class isnt just boring. You get up and move and talk. He is passionate about what he does and it shows. I would 10000% take this class again, or anything from this professor. He is enlightening.
Brent Warnock is the best professor Ive had. He taught me so much about life and had the most inspirational stories. I strive to be like him and hope that I can be as smart and successful as he is. I highly recommend this class even if you dont have to take it, you will learn so much.
There is a lot of group work. Which was to be expected from a small group comm class. The big project is intimidating because he wants you to "blow his socks off" but just plan and manage your time well and it will be fine. His lectures get boring and he talks a lot sometimes but attendance is required. The class is fine just not my thing.
He is a good professor! Put in the work, attend class, and participate in class!! We only did 3 speech presentations with 2 reading quizzes. It wasn't a bad class just show that you care about it or you won't do too well. But besides that, he was a great professor and really cares about this subject!
Literally just talks about himself the whole class period. Im so glad Ill never have to take a class from him and hear his forced faux inspirational talks again.
Brent is an amazing professor! He teaches in a significant way, unlike any other professor! His class is very enjoyable and I look forward to it each week. His class inspired me to major in communications. I am serious, this class changed my life for the better! Take this class or any class from Brent. I promise you won't regret it!!
Prof Warnock is awesome. He is really active and loves participation. This course was odd to take as a hybrid, but very manageable and Prof Warnock made the experience a lot better. Light homework but in depth reading when assigned. Just show up, participate, and contribute to team projects and you will do great. Overall easy, would recommend.
I absolutely loved taking Comm 1020 with Brent. He really cares about his students and wants to make connections with them from the first time he sees them. Very supportive and encouraging, and he always helps you see where you could improve your public speaking. He was very effective at managing a zoom class which I respected.
Brent was a great professor; he really cares about his students and what he taught. We focused completely on public speaking and I learned a ton from Brent! He grades you on attendance, 3 presentations that you give in class and a tiny bit of useful reading and writing. Really, as long as he can see you care and are trying, you'll pass!
Tips to pass Brent's class: SHOW UP TO EVERY SINGLE CLASS. Attendance is the thing that affects your grade the most, and Brent makes it clear that it is intentional. You spend the entire semester working with one group of 5-6 others, so pick your team wisely, because your grade WILL DEPEND ON YOUR TEAM. Brent can teach you some good life lessons.
Not terrible but can be annoying at times. Most of the comments say he's great but not really. A bit fake feeling and cringy at times. Often his tone sounds like he is talking to little children. Acts like he is so deep and "significant" but is really not. He says it will be an interactive class but really is just him talking the whole time (lies).
Brent loves communications and it shows. He wants you to be able to use this information in your every day life. He wants you to understand the value of communication. Simple but meaningful assignments. Loved this class, glad I took it from him.
He is a great man but class tended to consist of him talking a lot. Wish we would have covered more of the concepts presented. Would take again but prepare to listen to him venting about his childhood issues most of the time.
Professor Warnock is probably my most favorite professors I've ever had. My communications class was focused on public speaking, which is something that I am not particularly good at, but I looked forward to every single class. He makes it fun and exciting. If you attend class and turn assignments in on time you will succeed.
100% RECOMMEND!!! Brent is so passionate about what he teaches that it's impossible to not want to put in all of your effort to learn. He is so so easy to work with and is very understanding. There are 3 presentations that you do and a few short readings so the homework load is very reasonable. He's a very cool guy
This was by far the easiest course I took this semester. I would conservatively say that around 95% of this class is spent listening to either Mr. Warnock or your classmates while they are presenting. Just show up, do the very little/easy amount of assignments, and you'll pass with a minimum of a B.
I took small group communication from Brent and it was easily one of the best classes I have taken at weber state. If you have to take a comm class take it from this guy. 10/10
He is one of the best communication teachers in the university. He teaches you what you need really to know and his class was very easy. His class was basically just discussion and presentations.
Brent is an amazing teacher. He makes personal connections with each of his students and helps them to be prepared. He lets the class decide on due dates.
The only textbook needed was actually just a $10 book. Brent is an awesome teacher and this class helps you with communication and speech skills as well as being a generally easy class as long as you are there everyday.
Brent is the best!! He is so passionate about communication. So much so I almost think twice about chaning my major. He is so good at what he does. He has great experiences and really cares. Show up, speak and you will do fine. He is a fantastic professor.
He honestly cares about his students and is very understanding. Overall he's just a really nice guy and wants everyone to do well so as long as you talk with him you have a great experience.
He is one of the best professors. Definitely take communications or any other class from Brent!
One of the best teachers at Weber! Definitely take communications or any class from Brent.
Brent is awesome, he makes class fun!
Genuinely cared about his students and his content. You have to rely on your team a lot and I would definitely take notes during the lecture for the team final. I didn't resonate with the content so I wouldn't take again but he was a great professor and made it worthwhile!
Brent is an amazing teacher and an even better person. This class is focused on one thing: getting you used to public speaking. That being said, you will do a couple speeches, none of which are terribly hard. If you are not comfortable with public speaking, keep in mind that this class is all about that and Brent maintains a positive environment.
Brent is a teacher so he can change lives. you can tell by his words and actions. he really does care and will talk to you about anything and help you however he can. very generous when grading speeches, understands it's not comfortable for everyone to do. repeats main ideas so you remember them and teaches with really fascinating stories.
I have this as 1.0 difficulty for a reason. We never had class on Fridays. We had to give 2-3 easy presentations. Brent is super nice. He would even apologize for “too much homework” after assigning 20 minutes of homework maybe 3 times throughout the semester. Don't let the easiness fool you this class will make you a better public speaker.
Taking this class was one of my favorite things I've done. Such a wonderful professor, always accessible and truly cares about each person. Genuinely made friends in his class because he helps us create such a safe learning environment. Definitely take from him.
Absolutely amazing. He genuinely cares about you, wants you to succeed & learn. He says he's not above his students & he truly acts that way. He cares more about you improving & understanding a few concepts than about giving tons of homework. He's collaborative with the class & decides due dates with the class. Very inspirational teaching style.
Brent was super sweet overall. Only assignments in this class are the three speeches we present, and attendance basically. Our class consisted of mostly listening to others speeches. Overall no complaints. However, if you are someone who gets bad anxiety public speaking you will want to take this class online.
