He likes to dance around your questions a lot. Also he gives quizzes instead of test which is okay but the majority of the questions are some you haven't seen him go over or are hard.

Mr. Black is a very good teacher. He explains very well, and he always has a very attitude. I've taken 3 other Math teachers since I started college, and he was the best one. He made the class interesting because he was always full of energy. You can really see that he loves to teach.

Statistics is a very difficult and boring subject but Professor Black made it interesting. He is a motivated instructor interested in ensuring his students learn. I have over 130 college units earned and he is probably one of the best instructors I've ever had.

i had him for math 9 and have had other teachers for math, but decided that his teaching is far more helpful and easier to understand.

This class was actually MathR011 Elementary Algebra Online. As far as a web course goes, there is none better to run it other than Mr. Black. He is one of the best Math teachers I have ever had and he is always willing to help you and answer questions. I reccomend taking either a live class from Mr. Black or a web class. He is the best.

I was urged against taking this class online because of the time commitment however, my results were amazing. Not only did the online format explain problems in multiple diffrent ways but you also have opportunities to better your grade. Homework can be reworked for credit and Mr. Black helps you to focus directly on test material. Awesome!!

I took the internet class. If you do your homework, take the practice quizzes and regular quizzes you can do well. The online version gives you examples how to work the problems and take quizzes 3 times for best score. Prof Black also has a virtual classroom Wed nites. Work hard and you get a good grade.

I took another college algebra class before his with Ms.Yang and got an F, went to retake it with him and had a B all the way up to the end. He makes things really simple and is maybe my favorite math teacher. He's awesome! highly recommend him!

Makes occasional mistakes and sometimes forgets what he tells you. He'll tell you something on Monday,then forget what he said by the next class session so you have to revise your notes. He also doesn't acknowledge he's done this unless someone complains. For the final make sure he gives you the entire time allowed or you should email the Dean.

I took online class. Points earned for your homework which you can do unlimited times until you get them all correct. There is a quiz for each section with 3 attempts. 4 Midterm exams at school but there is a practice test which is done online as well. You have to do all the work to get your points, Slack off and you lose.

I took his class online and seeing as how i never really interacted with him i would say he was a good teacher. I'm glad i took it with him. He could be a lil nicer when it comes to late work though.that murdered my grade

Mr. Black is one of the best math teachers I've ever taken. He's extremely helpful if you don't understand something. Great sense of humor. Class is extremely mandatory! The only downside to the class is that if you're late 5min of the day hw is due, you'll only get half credit and he's a strict grader. Other than that,he's GREAT!

Prof. Black is an AWESOME math teacher. I haven't had a math class in 8 years and jumped into his calculus class and did great. I owe my success to his generous office hours and extremely concise lectures. He doesn't refer to the book at all in class; it's only needed for the HW. He really knows his stuff and makes it so EASY; take his class.

Great professor. Everything you want a teacher to be. Clear, concise, kind, funny, well-prepared, accessible, secure in himself... Truly one of the good ones. Some test questions can be difficult so watch out, so you'll need to know the material well and use your head a little bit (they're difficult but totally fair). I recommend him highly!

Easy easy easy!! Just watch the video lectures online- take notes, pause, or go back... You can retake chapter quizzes up to 3 times... You would be dumb to not take his math classes!!! Black is always very responsive to all questions as well

Responds to emails within hours or minutes. Very helpful and willing to work with students. Lots of homework, but 3 chances on every chapter test. Minor mistakes are wrong. Took online and went to campus for 4 midterms and the final. Taking him again this semester and every semester he offers a class I need. Doesn't curve grades.

His class seems very easy but is not the tests are hard for someone who is not very good at math so if ur not one of those dont take him. ;( but he is very niece though

Online class, def not easy without the assistance of a tutor (if you aren't a math person). Book not needed (all online with mymathlab). Drops lowest, allows 1 retake opp. TAKE PRACTICE TESTS! Exactly like actual test. Black is a great guy, super flexible, willing to help the best he can. Def would recomend taking this class-- got an A ;)

Best math teacher I ever had. He gives very clear instructions and sticks with the curriculum. He is also very helpful. IMO, he is a great instructor. Follow instructions, put in all the time and effort he says you should and you'll do well.

Professor Black is a great professor. Though in the online course, you must be organized and have self discipline. With the midterms, just take the practice midterm over and over and you will see certain questions pop up multiple times.

He is really great. I really liked how he explained the subject without making you feel dumb for asking. He takes his time with you and he is very easy going. I took the course online and it was great. Only need to show up for tests.

Took the hybrid class where attendance is only mandatory for the tests. If you struggle with math show up to his class. He's very helpful. Algebra is easy when it's explained. Don't be stubborn and try to do everything yourself when you can't.

I took Math14A with him. By far the best math teacher at OC!!!!! I really don't understand how people want to skip class & then expect to pass the tests? It doesn't make sense. His teaching method is super simple. He gave out extra credit at the end of the semester, whatever grade you got on the final would replace one bad test grade! Hooray!

Called everyone individually during class to check how you were doing. Took him in a hybrid corse. If you didn't meet your math hours he would ask "Why?" in a quiet class and you had to basically let the whole class know why.. embarrassing but pushes you to do your work. Overall cool teacher.

This professor right here is a blessing sent from above. the exams including the final were 7-9 questions long and gives a chance for extra credit at the end of every test. Easy to follow along during lectures. Always eager to answer any questions. Replies to emails quickly. Just do the homework and study the test reviews and you guarantied an A .

I took him during summer and I was super nervous, but it was worth it. Be prepared to do a lot of studying but as long as you review you'll be fine. Homework is 20-30 questions. 2 quizzes a day, the midterm is taken at home with open notes and the final is only 25 questions. He is a very good teacher and makes math very clear and simple.

Summer Math 14, very pleased w/ his way of teaching. He is very clear when giving lecture and makes sure that everyone understands what is being taught. Closed notes quizzes at the beg of class (on prior material learned)and open notes quiz on what you just learned at the end of each class. Attempts: midterm-3, final-2, highest score kept. TAKEHIM!

The best math class I have ever taken. Math isn't my strong subject but I passed his class with over 100% so easily. There is so much room for extra credit and he is so thorough and good at teaching and really being clear when someone doesn't understand something. I highly recommend this professor ESPECIALLY if math isn't your strongest suit.

Professor Black is a really great professor for elementary algebra. I struggle with algebra a lot and he made everything really easy to grasp. He explains everything clearly to where you don't have any questions, but not to where you are bored. And if you do have questions after he explains something, he is ready to answer, judgment free.

Okay let me just say Professor Black is the best teacher in the summer. Yes, he teaches fast but we only had like what? 6-7 weeks to cover 13-14 chapters. Hes always willing to help and loves questions. You can always tell when a professor sincerely loves what they teach. He SUPER fair. Cant wait to take him in the fall!(Math lab$but worth it)

Professor Black takes time to make sure that his examples are clear and the math concepts are understandable. He doesn't judge people for asking him obvious questions. Although I found the class too slow/boring, many students would appreciate the extra time he takes to make sure they understand.

Professor Black is by far the best Math professor I've taken. His lectures are always interesting and I really love how he had power point slides for every section. He goes step-by-step and provides several examples in each section. If you are planning on taking Calculus 1, don't miss out the opportunity to take it with him!

Assigned a small amount of homework, but some problems can be challenging. Tests were also small so if you miss a problem it can really hurt your grade, but they're not challenging questions or anything. Lectures go fast as he uses powerpoints for his lectures. Gives reliable answers to questions.

He has many resources to help understand the homework and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students and loves his job. Id gladly take his class again.

Bret was a solid professor during quarantine and really helped us make sure we understood the lectures. The only issue was that it was TOO easy and felt a little nervous when thinking about calc II and whether I would succeed in it. Only reason I got a B was from not participating in the zooms.

Professor Black has great ways of teaching his students in an understandable way. My last math class was so much more stressful as I had to read the textbook on my own and had to request tutoring online. Professor Black's lecture videos are detailed and easy to understand. He answers questions via email within a reasonable amount of time as well.

Professor Black was an awesome Calc professor! He really knows the material and cares about his students. He makes learning a hard subject interesting and much easier.

Really helpful especially if math doesn't come easy to you. He's one of the best professors I've had. He uses powerpoints which I thought were helpful and he also posts his notes for students to refer back to which correlate to the homework problems.

I was able to maintain a high B because of how amazing Professor Black is! Exceptional lecturing, transparency, willingness to help, and course structure made trig fun and interesting. Personally, the way the course was structured made it feel like trig was easy for me and I could not have ever imagined saying that before Professor Black!

He is hands down the best professor you can get at Oxnard College for online math instruction. His lectures are detailed, short and to the point. He was highly responsive to my messages and was able to offer help. His grading is very lenient compared to other professors. The pace of the class was perfect, couldn't have picked a better professor.

Took calc and trig with Prof. Black and I think he is the best math teacher. He goes over all the important stuff in an easy to understand way. Lots of good examples. Hw and quizzes are easy. Tests are easy too as long as you study and do the practice tests. He made calc easy. If math isn't your thing, take Prof. Black!

Prof. Black's teaching style is superior, lectures are short, concise, and covers problems directly from the homework that will be used in the exams. As long as you've taken his trigonometry class (or already know it), and know how to use a calculator you will be able to pass this class with a smile on your face. JUST PRACTICE FOR EXAMS!

Professor Black is open to questions surrounding course material. He is willing to respond by email and is not a harsh grader. His tests are fair, do all homework and practice. This class is manageable and understandable. He is your first choice for taking Calculus I.

Best Calculus Professor, his teaching is very clear, easy to understand if you have an interest. You have to study and solve multiple times to fully understand. The way he teaches is what allowed me to understand calculus. Homework, online group participation problems. Just amazing teaching and notes are allowed on test.

The best math professor! Homework & lectures are informative & brief, provides plenty of support outside of class, and tests (you get 3 tries) are simple. Midterms & finals are in person, but they aren't difficult as long as you do the study guides. Desmos activities are done during Zoom sessions & help you understand difficult subjects more easily

The professor was the sweetest and very understanding. The work was very easy and you were allowed to turn in late. I took the class online and everything was very easy to access and was willing to go over hw when we had lecture. Was very thorough when we went over what we were learning and made sure we know what was going on.

As an engineering major, this was the easiest math class of my life. As long as you apply yourself to the curriculum, the class is an easy A. Bro is god's gift to calculus, and I will miss him when I go to Northeastern in the fall.

This man is probably one of the best professors at Oxnard College. He explained the topics very well and shows that he cares about your education. Best math teacher that I have ever had. If you get the chance to take his classes, go for it. The zoom meetings are mandatory however and it's at night, but it's so worth it.

Show up to class, easy class. His video lectures match the HW assignments, and tests are not extremely hard, but only because he prepares you for them so well.

Posts his lectures online so you can move at your desired pace. Unlimited HW tries and 8 opportunities to turn a HW assignment in late for full credit. He also posts similar vids from youtube in the HW. The questions on his exams come directly from the HW and he posts practice problems. If you struggle with math like me, this class is for you.

Great class overall! Many attempts for homework assignments, 3 tries on chapter tests, 2 midterms, and a final. I liked that he didn't give a lot of homework, and this class was pretty easy to keep up with. Just show up to class, study and you'll be good to go!

Great guy, super nice and understanding. Has multiple late passes for assignments and keeps tests and exams pretty short and sweet. If you take notes and do the homework he makes it super easy to do well. He has a flipped classroom so there are lecture videos online to watch before doing your homework and then he reviews the homework in class.

Very nice and is open to helping! Open to making accommodations for the students if necessary. Attendance is mandatory and the class consists of SOLELY reviewing any hw ?'s and doing Desmos the 2nd half of the class. You're for participation on Desmos and attendance is taken via Desmos. Tests are nothing crazy. Provides very accurate study guide

Professor Black is a great professor, I was really nervous going into calculus but the class wasn't difficult at all! Sometimes during the desmos activities he'll change the slide before I finished entering my answer and I think I got points taken off for it so keep that in mind.

He has a very high rating for a reason. Do whatever you can to make sure you take your Calc 1 class with him. He makes it very easy and simple and is easily one of the best professors in the district. You still have to do your fair share of practice problems on top of the homework as is true with every other math class to master the material.
