Dr. Lewis is a great guy. Class is extremely easy. Assigns reading for homework and discussions are held in class. Two midterms based solely on what is discussed and said in class. He gives study guides for his two midterms. I was not at all interested in this subject when class began. I truly find the discussions held in class very interesting.
Class was interesting, and he does not try to trick you on the test. He gets to know his students, and always willing to help. Listen in class and try to read the reading and you will be fine.
Interesting and a good time. he is cool
great professor. if you read the readings before class discussion you will do great on the test and love class. he listens to students and gets to know everyone. i will take him again for another class. 2midterms (he gives study guides) final=a paper (reflection of your growth in religion)...always look forward to class
Really enjoyed this class and Dr. Lewis was a great professor. Helpful when you need it, puts outlines on the board to guide discussion, and readings aren't terrible. If you're not sure about which intro Theology class to take, definitely take his class. Makes material super interesting. In fact, I'm taking another class of his next semester!
One of my favorite teachers. The class is straightforward, with all assignments and tests being spelled out. He made Buddhism interesting, while also not making the class harder than it needed to be.
Dr. Lewis is really nice! His outlines are really helpful since the tests are pretty much based on the outlines. Also, he is the easiest paper grader ever! As long as you try, and attend class, you will do fine. He is always willing to help! Take his class!
Easily my favorite professor! Assignments are clearly spelled out and the class is laid back. You know what you need to do for class and it's actually quite enjoyable. Everyone I talked with really loved this class! You should talk with him at his office hours if you need anything. He rocks. I will certainly taking another class with him next year!
Dr. Lewis is a great religious studies professor. His class is discussion style based on the readings assigned for homework. The readings can be a little heavy and dry sometime but once you come to class they are put in a simpler and applicable way. The tests are easy as long as you listen in class and take notes on the outlines. He's awesome!
I did not like this class. class was discussion based and ran by students with his guidance but mostly opinion based and then tests would ask very specific questions from the readings which was not fair because we did not focus on that much on the specifics.. super long boring readings... do not take.
Great class! Daily reading from Sakai/textbook, daily quizzes-straightforward no surprises. Class is discussion based...Overall a very down to earth, caring professor. Take him for core, you won't be disappointed!
He's the best! He's super funny and laid back. The tests aren't the easiest but I got a B without much studying. Definitely recommend.
Although I did not like the class in general because of the heavy readings, I liked him as a professor. It was not an easy A, but it was not difficult because he always told us what to expect on the test through his study guide. Also, he is a really good guy, so i am taking Intro to Islam with him again! I enjoy going to class just for him!
Religious studied with Bret Lewis was the first Theo class I ever took in my life. Personally, I did not enjoy the class as much, but Bret's a really good person. He got to know his students and joked around a bit. I am taking him again for Intro to Islam, Theo 298.
Dr. Lewis is the best and the easiest prof ever! At first I didn't like the way he was teaching the class, but later I realized how much I learned! He is open to criticisms and takes students' comments and concerns about the class seriously. He wants his students to do well but work hard. He is an interesting person to talk to.
2 exams, paper, lead 2 discussions, 5 pop quizzes, 2 events. Exams: easy, based on discussion/effective notes. Quiz: purely a reading check, may require print-out of reading. Event: attend outside class, reflection on Sakai. Overall lots of reading (didn't do), discussion/notes based, easy class. Paper: reflection relating to the final reading.
Love him! Honestly, one of the most genuine and caring professors I've ever had. Overall the class was great
Love Bret. He's such a sweet man and not a hard grader at all. Come to lectures and you'll be fine. Take him!
So passionate about his field of study, which makes it easy to be in this class. DO THE READINGS and BRING THEM to class with you! He's not interested in slamming you with tons of work to prove who's boss. He actually prefers that you learn something. Fantastic prof. (and he cute doe...)
Looong readings. But he is an awesome guy! (Really cute too...) Easy grader, but attendance is mandatory. Show up, you will be okay. You wont realize you have learned anything until later on, he has a unique teaching method. Definitely cares about his students though and its worth it for a CORE class.
Dr. Lewis does a good job showing Buddhism in its' many forms. If you're not too interested in Buddhism he's still a pretty easy core, quite a bit of reading, but the tests aren't bad at all. You do have to read a memoir on Buddhism, but you get to choose from a list and they're all pretty interesting.
Buddhism once weekly with Bret were long, but he made the class very manageable. Pop quizzes were given often on reading but were easy ways to score points. He gives a review guide for the midterm and final, making it very clear what he wants from you. You also must read a memoir, which was annoying but doable. Nice guy, wants to give easy points
Dr. Lewis is an overall okay professor. He's predictable and reliable but his lectures can be somewhat boring and he can take a long time to teach a small amount of material. Reading is definitely required to understand the material he presents in class. I took this class once a week and it had a VERY strict attendance policy. He's funny as well!
Dr. Lewis is an awesome professor! You may feel like you aren't learning anything in the class until the midterm but you'll later realize how much you have learned. The tests are fairly easy and so are the assignments. He does give pop quizzes (5) and he grades very easy on the final paper as well. I would definitely recommend!
Professor Lewis is an awesome professor. He explained Buddhism in a way that was interesting and helpful. He's funny and makes the 2 and a half hour long class bearable. He also grades ridiculously easy. Take him if you get the chance.
Funny, quirky guy. Gives decent lectures and keeps the class involved. No textbook, but a lot of multi-page articles to print out.
I love professor Lewis. He's relatable and makes long class periods to by extremely quickly. I always seem to laugh whenever I'm in his presence. Inspirational, talented, and extremely intelligent professor. Not to mention he's a cutie!
I really like Doctor Lewis. He's a young guy, super funny, very relatable, and engaging (especially for a 2.5 hr class). I love his personality and the way he lectures with an outline. You have to read and participate in forum on Sakai. But that's easy points. Makes Buddhism accessible and understandable.
Doctor Lewis is the best professor I've had! He's very approachable and outgoing. One midterm, final and a paper. Pop quizzes which are easy if you do the readings. For the exams, study the notes you take in class and you'll do fine. Take him! He's cute too
One of the best professors at Loyola. He knows what he teaches and explains the subject very well. Weekly readings and attendance is mandatory, but the amount of work is pretty light. Tests aren't bad if you pay attention and takes notes. He's also really funny and not a drag to listen to at all.
LOVE Bret. Class was super interesting and rarely boring. He's a strict about attendance, but you won't mind going to class. Lots of reading and weekly discussion board homework, but you get easy points for doing it! Overall it was a great class, and I wish I could take him again!
Lewis is so great! There are participation points in the class so you can't skip and there are reading that you have to print out before every class. His exams are very straight forward and he does have pop quizzes but as long as you read they're easy. It's usually group discussion or him just lecturing.
TAKE HIM. BRET is literally the chillest and awesomeest person out there. There are readings every week and are really interesting sometimes it maybe difficult to understand but his quizzes are so easy and he goes over the reading and what it really means. Amazing guy take him. Class discussion is fun cause some people fight. BRET is the best
Bret makes the class really interesting and most of the class is student-lead discussion. He assigns (short) readings for every class with pop quizzes on the readings. The class is overall pretty easy, but very interesting. Really would recommend.
Amazing Theo prof. Exams are very straightforward and quizzes you on readings. Take good notes!
No textbook but a ton of articles. 250 pages of articles that you will read throughout the year. 1 midterm but 10 pop quizzes. The quizzes are to prove that you read the article assigned so if you read, you're good. Dr. Lewis is an interesting guy. He has so many theoretical questions and his lectures usually end up in some debate.
Important to do the readings (10 pop quizes a semester) and show up to class (participation grade) but the lectures are VERY interesting and mostly discussion. He is anti laptops and requires hard copies of all the readings but there is no text book. The class ins't difficult, it just requires a tiny bit of effort into reading and showing up.
Bret is really funny if you like bad jokes and existential angst ;) Class was not difficult as long as you read, led to some interesting conversations. People in the class were annoying but Bret was pretty cute.
If you have the opportunity - take Bret! Although the material of his class was super boring, he tried making it fun and easy. No textbook required, but he makes you print out readings. Pop quizzes are super easy.. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! He's really nice and funny --he hates cellphones though. Real cute too. Def recommend.
He's the best for Theo, he gives 10 pop quizzes, one midterm, and final & final essay. He's a lenient grader on the quizzes (mention something specific from the reading). There's a reading for each class but some are entertaining. He lecture's a lot so take notes. He's great for because he is entertaining but if you don't like to read don't take.
Take him! Must read the articles before class. 10 pop quizzes based on readings, 1 midterm and final (study guides provided+noncumulative), 1 paper (5 pages), easy participation points for showing up. Exams are literally the study guide. Just pay attention and this class will be a be an easy A. I'm a science major and I would take this class again!
Bret was OK... Lots of readings required to be read before class (pop quizzes). Lectures are pretty boring, I wanted to leave about 20 minutes into class every time. Found myself taking multiple bathroom breaks to get away from the bland and tiring atmosphere. Laptops are not allowed and attendance is mandatory.
Dr. Lewis is a great guy. I loved having him for THEO 107. He's give pop quizzes on some readings so it is important to do all the readings he assigns (they are all print handouts on Sakai). He's very passionate about religious studies and does a great job making a class that could easily be boring really interesting. I would highly recommend him.
Dr. Lewis is my favorite professor here at Loyola. He is hilarious and really gets you to think about religion in a new way. The class wasn't what I was expecting at first, but I really enjoyed the approach he took on studying religion. Plus the exams/pop quizzes are EASY. I would 30000% recommend him.
He made the classes fun and informative which really helped in making the course more interesting in general. Attending class would help you know what's important for the exams, he takes pop quizzes that are easy if you've read the assigned reading and they're an easy way to bump up your grade.
I took Buddhism online with professor Lewis, and it was a very manageable class. It was self guided, and there were no synchronous sessions which was really nice. The lectures were all under 50 minutes and the reading was not bad. Quizzes were fair, just make sure you do the reading and take good notes on them. Overall, good class!
This was an interesting class on Buddhism! I would recommend taking it! it is an on your own pace class, which was great. Professor Lewis is a fast and very fair grader! would 10/10 recommend!
Bret Lewis is an excellent professor. He managed to engage our large class in interesting discussions and propelled us to evaluate numerous perspectives. Beyond what I have learned about the complex social construction of religion, this class has also helped me to think critically about a host of other subjects.
I took him for Theo 107: Religious studies. The class was extremely interesting and thought provoking, even though it was mainly just lecturing on readings. If there is any wisdom i can give, DONT take the 4:15-6:45 class... even though its only once a week, 2:30 of lecturing will make you strongly consider putting ur head through a wall
Took the once a week class - which was rough and the lectures tended to get extremely dry after a while. He's a funny guy and seems really down-to-earth. Material was easy enough to understand. Connected a lot of the material to real-world topics and issues which was interesting.
Didn't have any real interest in theology/religious studies before I took this class but Dr. Lewis did a really good job of applying the class to other disciplines which made the class super interesting. As long as you show up and pay attention/take notes, you're guaranteed an A
I really liked this class, and the professor made it even better. Just make sure you come to class and do the readings before, because it's gonna be confusing if you don't. As long as you make an effort, you will do great.
Professor Lewis is amazing. Before I took the class, I thought it would be boring but Professor Lewis made it enjoyable and interesting. He gives out pop quizzes but they're easy if you do the readings. There are 3 exams and he gives you the study guides. The final is just a 5-6 paper about something that you learned that interested you in class.
Professor Lewis is one of the best teachers I've had at Loyola. His lectures are very interesting and based on short readings he assigns. He gives weekly quizzes, but they are easy if you do the reading. His tests are very straight forward and the final is an essay. Easy A if you show up and pay attention/take notes.
Professor Lewis is extremely genuine and supportive of his students. For the Theo 107 class, you have to do 2 forums a week based on readings or lectures. In addition to this are a midterm, final exam, and final paper. He is extremely clear on the final paper so it is easy to do well, and his exams are easy. Overall, he is a great choice to take!!!
Super nice, caring, and easy professor. 2 forums a week, asynchronous lectures, and 30 min discussions. Loved the discussions; doesn't force you to talk but will call on you at least twice in the semester to give your input about anything. Easy exams and one short paper at the end. Appreciates cameras on during discussions. TAKE HIM!
Take his class!! Prof. Lewis is by far one of the best at Loyola. Two exams (midterm and final) one essay. For our online class (COVID) we had forums to complete every week along with readings. The readings aren't long and they are interesting. Participation does matter, but he makes everyone feel super welcome and understood. Loved this class.
Took his Buddhism class online during JTerm. He assigns class work in a reasonable manner, but be ready to work hard every day! Responds to to emails immediately. Lots of reading and writing about things that don't come naturally to regular humans. No major papers or midterm, thankfully. Just a final that he curves a LOT to help us out. Lovely man!
I took his Buddhism class during J-term and I absolutely loved Professor Lewis, he's so caring and he is very passionate about what he teaches + he makes it very easy to understand difficult concepts and to do well considering we only had 2 weeks to get through this course. He's definitely one of the best professors I've ever taken at Loyola.
Bret was such a good teacher. The best teachers are the ones where you can't tell their political affiliation or in his case, their religion. The class consisted of prep material and a forum post for every class, a midterm, and a final. If you show up and do the prep for the class you'll have no problem getting an A. Such a good class and teacher!
Professor Lewis is a solid choice for a tier 1 theology class!! He does realize its a core class so the workload wasn't that much. Forum posts for every lecture, participated and two exams. Leaves not much error on exams. Although this course wasn't the most interesting to me, choosing Prof. Lewis is a great idea
He is a really sweet and caring prof. You have to show up to class and fill out the forums. The tests I found a little hard but this class is def mangeable and Im sure if you try decently, you can get an A in this class.
Bret Lewis is by far my favorite professor at Loyola so far! His class is so interesting and he houses discussion that makes you feel connected to your classmates even in an online setting. I always looked forward to this class, and if you like a class formatted in open discussions you will as well.
If you need to take this core, take it with Lewis!! Most of the class is just laid back class discussions and he makes everyone feel super comfortable to share their opinions. There's one midterm and a final and he makes a study guide for each covering everything you need to know. Super great guy and I would take him again if I could
Bret Lewis is truly amazing. He's very sweet, his content for class is very intriguing, and work-wise, you will NOT be stressed out about it, trust me. There is 2 forums/week, but it should take you no more than 5-10 minutes to complete. Other than that, there's a midterm exam and final, but as long as you pay attention in class, you will do well.
Professor Lewis is such a sweet guy, each class he checks in with students and really shows how much he cares. His teaching style is very conversational, and it's more of a discussion with the class than lecture. Two forums each week, and a midterm and final, so very tolerable workload. He's an incredibly professor, you should take him!
Take him! His exams really show you that he tried his best to let everyone have good grade. As long as you pay attention to the discussion, you will get an A. Trust me, I did not understand every single thing we discussed or read but I ended up with super high grade.
This class is extremely discussion-based. Professor Lewis is super heartwarming and cares for each and every student in the class. The class is comprised of weekly discussion forums and two exams. Overall, you learn so much, and you learn to see from a whole different perspective. Make sure to participate and develop a relationship with him!
Bret is hands down the best professor I've had at Loyola. He is so caring and makes theology a subject I have no interest in into one of the most informational and engaging classes I have taken. He really cares for his students and makes everyone feel welcome and included in class. I cannot recommend him enough for Theology.
Awesome professor!Kind and non biased, and informative lectures! Very possible to do well if yo follow all instructions and pay attention!!
I would recommend this class. It was pretty straightforward and you knew what you were going to be tested on. Every class is a discussion pretty much, so you do need to participate. Also, make sure you buy the physical textbook--he'll get kind of upset if you don't have it, and you can't use electronics in class.
Bret was one of the best professors I've had at Loyola. I had little expectation to enjoy this course but it was my favorite one this semester. The course is based on weekly readings and forum posts and class is discussion based. The exams are fairly straight forward and he makes a study guide for them. Overall, he's amazing!
Classes are mainly discussion-based, but very interesting and allow you to see things from a different perspective. Attendance is graded. 2 forum posts per week, a total of 3 exams, and readings done before class. Very understanding and sweet, although no computers are allowed. Definitely recommend if you like discussion-based classes.
I really liked this class, the subjects, and the professor's approach to class. Some may find it boring but, if you apply yourself, it's pretty engaging and easy to allow yourself to develop your own thoughts. I wish I could take a second class like this and with him.
Professor Lewis is a great guy who really tries to make the information more enjoyable. Even the course can be pretty boring, as long as you show up and do the forums you should get an A with little effort.
Really good person and professor. Does pop quizzes so you can't skip, and he only does attendance on certain days. His lectures are a tad boring but he goes over things on the exam. His exams are easy and self-explanatory. He genuinely cares about the students and is very accommodating. I took his 8am and found it very easy. Definitely take him.
Prof Lewis has honestly become one of my favorite professors this semester! He makes his lectures fun and engaging. He gives 5 pop quizzes throughout the semester, but he's not really looking for the right answer; he is just looking for evidence that you did the reading for that day! Take his class!
I LOVE BRET LEWIS. Super interesting lectures and clear grading criteria. He is always receptive to feedback and he genuinely cares about his students. You'll get an A if you put in a little bit of effort, and you'll actually learn a lot. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Lewis was honestly my favorite professor so far. His lectures are interesting and considering class was at 8am he was always engaging. There are group discussion here and there to make it less lecture heavy which I like. He is also super accommodating and the workload for this class isn't too bad just do the readings and you'll be fine.
I really enjoyed Professor Lewis. His lectures and readings are genuinely interesting. There is not a heavy workload. He really likes when people participate and share their opinions on the lesson. If you go to class + do the readings you can get an A for sure.
This is a discussion based class so obviously be ready to discuss the readings. Just skim them and be able to know the topics and you will be fine. Not too much critical thinking needed just a perspective and understanding. Class is not hard unless you skip class and don't even look at the title of the readings.
This class is easy, but if you don't go to class or do the readings it will become difficult really fast. It's mostly discussion-based so make sure you read what was assigned for the day especially since he likes to give out pop quizzes. The class consisted of 2 facilitation assignments, midterm, final, and pop quizzes. FYI he rounds grades up!
Professor Lewis was amazing! He did a great job of making sure students understand complex concepts through his lectures. They feel more like a class discussion than a lecture. There are always reading but they are never very long and usually interesting. Very laid back class, not hard at all to do well in as long as you attend the class.
Bret Lewis is a fantastic professor who has really interesting lectures that changed the way I view the world. Especially with how religion influences human behavior and society. Do the readings. He has 12 pop-quizzes based on the readings, but he just wants proof you did your homework. In a nutshell, easy points.
I loved Professor Lewis. He posts the readings on sakai, due the next class, and there are occasional pop quizzes over the reading. He is a very caring, funny professor. I would highly recommend him.
Chill class, do the readings, discuss them in class. Pop quiz here and there, but just wants you to prove that you read (you can write down whatever you remember, doesn't have to be specific answer). A lot of different perspectives are mentioned in this class, which I appreciated a lot. Exceeded my expectations completely. Prof is very respectful!
If you read and come to class its super easy. The quizzes are on the reading and he's not tough on grading them. The tests are also not hard.
Dr. Lewis is a wonderful professor! I started this semester off on a really bad note and he has been one of the most supportive professors yet. He wants his students to succeed. Class is pretty chill, and quizzes are also fairly easy. Tests have been a little bit hit or miss for me. Regardless he's a great professor and an overall great dude!
Professor Lewis is one of the kindest professors I have ever had. The class was graded by 12 pop quizzes that are really easy if you just skim the reading, attendance, a paper (grades very easy), midterm, and final. Class is really boring and it's kinda hard to hear him because his voice is quiet. Exams are easy if you study and I would recommend!
The class consissts of 12 pop quizzes, as long as you write anything that shows him that you read the text you receive full credit for the pop quiz. Exams are all MCQ which are easy as long as you have paid attention in class and looked at his study guide you should do fine! Dr Lewis wants everyone to succeed, he's the best
I loved Prof Lewis!! His class is very straightforward (there are 12 reading quizzes and 3 exams). The readings are super easy and very short, if you do them the quizzes are no problem. I thought his exams were pretty easy. He is super sweet and helpful and the class itself is so interesting. Highly recommend!!!
I love Lewis!! He's such a sweet person and genuinely wants you to succeed. I was dreading theology until I took his class. It taught me a new perspective, and I just did the readings and was fine. He has pop quizzes but you just need to show some indication that you read the material and you'll get full credit. One of my fav profs
Such a nice professor. Remembers all his students name and is an awesome lecturer. All the reading in the class are under 10 pages which was a huge relief from all my other classes.
Bret Lewis is an amazing professor I loved his class so much. It is so interesting and so fun. You definitely have to do the work to do well but the work is good and meaningful. Take him you will not regret it.
Probably, my favorite professor, I've ever had. He's extremely caring, and intelligent, he makes the class incredibly interesting. The perspectives he has are so insightful and interesting. I learned so much and everything was straightforward. I read the readings on my way to class each time so it was fresh in my head for each pop quiz which helped
If every LUC prof was like him, our school wouldn't be overpriced .I really will miss his presence. such a great demeanor. old soul he's very witty in a low-key way, like the way he says his words. the comment below mine who said fav prof ever, i am with them 100%. I am sad its over. and to think we all dreaded Theo before it started.
the best prof ever. so caring and understanding. his class was so easy, only discussed a reading that was due before class started and he made it too easy. three exams that are based on what we talked about in class, and a final paper with easy prompts. attendance is mandatory with three unexcused
Prof. Lewis was one of the most compassionate instructors that I have worked with. I took his asynch. Summer Session A THEO 107 course while also dealing with personal matters; therefore, struggling to turn assignments in on time. After communicating with Prof. Lewis, he was incredibly supportive and still accepted my work and provided feedback.
Professor Lewis is one of the best professors I had. You could tell he cared about what he taught, but also cared immensely that everyone understood the content and that we succeeded. Tests were all multiple choice. Overall, such a great professor!
The class is 100% lectures - nothing else. There's 8 pop quizzes & 2 exams + final. His voice is super monotone & quiet, so it's hard to hear him. But, he's so kind and encouraging! The key to getting an A is to USE THE STUDY GUIDE. It's all MC & the Qs are 100% like the study guide! He puts all the readings (including textbook) on Sakai for free.
hes just a silly guy honestly. tests are multiple choice + if you pay attention they're pretty easy, he also puts injokes in the answers. he's sarcastic and has a monotone voice. sends us to read articles which r so long 15 page essays on mundane topics + 80% of the article is irrelevant, also he gives you pop quizzes on the article so try to skim.
Favorite class of all time. Even though its an 8am water tower, I showed up to every single class because he always has relevant and interesting topics to present to us. It is discussion based and does have reading homework, but super manageable. Im literally a bio major and his class is still my #1. Engage and you will get a good grade. Take him!
best professor I've had at Loyola. lectures are interesting, 3 multiple choice tests that are easy to get an A on. short homework readings posted on sakai, DO THEM, he gives pop quizzes (they're very easy, just prove you read and you'll get 10/10). tbh just show up and pay attention and you'll do well, he's super nice and understanding too
I loved his class! He has readings for every class but they are not too long. He gives 10 pop quizzes throughout the semester, as long as you show you read you get full points. He gives two tests and a final exam that are multiple choice and not hard if you pay attention in class. I was not excited for a religious class but he made it interesting.
I am not the greatest reader and I managed to get a B- in his class. Lovely man, there are 8 pop quizzes, just do the reading and it's easy. Beware of the midterm, hardest exam out of the 3. The first and final are fine but the midterm is hard. All multiple choice. 100% take him again. Bret Lewis is great!
Bret is a real great down-to-earth guy. Easy grader on homework and quizzes. He really just wants you to learn and think. Would recommend 10/10 times.
Material was boring/repetitive, but Prof was so good it made up for it. Originally thought he was gonna be a pain bc u can only miss 2 classes the sem & tardy = absent (annoying bc downtown), but midterm, hw, & final were super easy & was really understanding w slightly late work. Super nice dude who u can tell wants 2 B there & connect w students
Prof. Lewis was one of my favorite professors because he was super kind and funny. While he was serious about attendance, which is because he actively wants to help you learn and engage with the material, which you can't do if you are not there. I was able to gain a lot of knowledge from this course, and am glad I took him. I recommend him 100%.
I took him last year as a freshman and I couldn't recommend him more. His class wasn't all about taking notes off a slideshow like every other class. I loved going downtown for his class. Just a nice guy and an overall super easy class that encourages you to expand your mind
Such a nice guy who genuinely cares about students succeeding. Pop quizzes over the readings. Pop quizzes are easy though, as long as you show you read something. Exams are easy if you follow the study guide. Class can get a little boring because you just sit there while he talks about the readings, but many of the topics covered are fascinating.
My eyes were opened to the world of theology, and I am writing this as a sophomore, but took him as a freshman. He is understanding, and straightforward, and as long as you study for his exams, you'll be fine. Your perception of religion will broaden, and you will learn so many things. He remains respectful while making you question what you know.
Dr. Lewis is a great professor. The class can be interesting if you do the readings, and listen to the discussions. There are 10 pop quizzes, which are easy A's if you at least skim the readings. The readings are due before each class, and the exams are extremely fair. He listens to his students, and is open to feedback. What a great guy, take him!
Attendance is taken, tests are pretty straight froward as long as you do the readings, which you need to because of the pop quizzes (he's a very easy grader on them as long as you've shown that you've read). Overall, very nice man, very caring and helpful, really wants you to do well and also think.
If you're planning to take this class to learn about religion, dont. This class is a "why is this religious" class. More emphasis on the what makes this religious, why do people think this is religious, etc. Has 8 pop quizzes and you MUST read to understand. Exams are not too bad, and a paper- (final). I would take him again he is a very nice guy!
I loved this class. Dr. Lewis was an amazing professor that conducted fantastic lectures. I found myself excited to participate in his class and the subject matter was always fascinating. The class itself is easy as long as you do the readings which are not too long and very interesting.Take this class and participate in it!
SUCH A WONDERFUL PROFESSOR!! Can be a little intimidating at the start of the semester but if you do the readings which are all easy and pretty short and participate even a little he is super caring and very willing to help you. Pop quizzes are just to show that you read anything and super easy to get credit on. Tests and final project are easy.
Professor Bret Lewis makes a dry subject interesting. Attendance is mandatory, but engaging with the material and going to class pays off. The workload is manageable, with quizzes and tests that are reasonable if you do the readings. Unstuckstudy was a huge help for studying alongside the textbook.
Fire emoji.
Dr. Lewis is the goat fr. lectures could drag a bit, but he's so funny and engaging. extremely understanding and kind. pop quizzes on the readings like once a week, just skim the readings before coming into class. for exams I would cram all the readings (~40 pages) in the days leading up to it and that got me an easy A. super chill, would recommend
my king. pop quizzes are every class that starts the week. nothing too hard. read and you'll be fine. bret lewis ily
Great discussions and extremely interesting articles. No need to buy textbooks, he provides PDFs for everything you need to read. Make sure you read before class (esp on Tuesdays), there are pop quizzes on certain readings. Exams are online and in class. Although there are difficult discussions, he stays respectful around religions and beliefs.
if u want the A take him.
Bret is great! His class consist of daily readings outside of class and 8 pop quizzes. If you at least prove that you finished the readings in the pop quizzes he will give you an A easily, so please, make sure to read even though it is kind of boring. Attendance is mandatory and being late=absence, which is frustrating but he makes up for that.
i loved this class. his lectures are really engaging and interesting. i took this class for my theo credit but it ended up being my fav class that semester. if you do the readings and take notes in class it's an easy a
Professor Lewis lectures are really interesting and surprisingly engaging, just pop quizzes but i was able to read them on the way to class and still pass them pretty easy. Super easy going professor, definitely recommend.
The GOAT. Lecture's are long but very interesting. There's 8 pop quizzes but as long as you do the reading before very class you'll do great. You can get away just looking up a summary of the reading bc he's not looking for much on the pop quizzes. If you want an A, take this class.
This class was for the most part easy, just really boring. 3 exams, 8 pop quizzes on the readings, and a final "project." Attendance is mandatory, you get 2 free days tho. He seems like a nice guy. I definitely recommend taking him for your theo tier 1 it's an easy A as long as you kinda pay attention and skim readings.
Prof Lewis is awesome. I took my 100s tier core theology class with him and it ended up being my favorite class. His approach to the class surrounds the idea of religion, rather than specific religions themselves which was very interesting and engaging for me. Easy A, do the readings and you'll do great.
He is great, I'd recommend taking him.
